She was confusing, and gave stupid assignments that should have been given to a drama class. But, there were some good moments in her class. I would recommend her if you are good at english, because if you are, it'll be a breeze.
Dr. Enciso is a great English professor, very professional, heplfull. If you want to see literature in a different avenue, I strongly recommend her class.
Great class! Interesting assignments. She lets you work with other students so you get to know people in the class and have more fun and interest in the material.
Nice person, but I could not stand how it was topic-orientated. I dropped it because I could not stand one more fact about California... It almost made me hate the state lol. I also hate Who Framed Rodger Rabbit and the stupid noir stuff. But SHE is a really wonderful person and Im sure if it wasnt all bout Cali. then I would not have dropped.
She is very encouraging & understanding. I enjoyed most of the class material. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is a great movie... but that's beside the point. She is rather lenient, but I suggest you stay on top of your assignments. She can be a tough grader.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! SHE CONFUSES HERSELF. ALWAYS RUSHING AND TAKES HER LECTURES DIRECTLY FROM SPARKNOTES, ALTHOUGH SHE REQUIRES THE STUDENT TO DO AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF WORK ON TOPICS THAT SHE RARELY DISCUSSES. IF YOU WANT TO TEACH YOURSELF...TAKE HER CLASS!
Took the online class, and it was awful. She hasn't graded an assignment for months. Her assignments are confusing, and she never responds to people asking for help. Worst teacher I've had at COD.
I took this class online as well. It is almost the last week and over half of my assignments are not graded. She never answers questions. She wants people to check the site every other day, yet she goes weeks without updating anything. When asked why it was taking so long, so blamed other people. Also, EVERY assignment is about California. Horrible
She is a very busy professer, a very good teacher although she takes rather long grading she has multiple things that she does, every body goes through life so everybody should be equally understanding. the books are very importnat you wil use all the books keep up with assighnments and youll do fine.
She was a nice teacher but we did ALOT of group work and you must do presentations in the front of the class with your group on everything, we did powerpoint presentations alot as well. We used our book alot but overall was a pretty easy class if you have basic writing skills
She will teach you nothing about English, although you might learn about critical thinking, California, noir films, Hispanic culture, and Charles Manson. The grades were based on opinion and not on composition. The more you play along with her delusions the better your grade. At this point, this teacher is a joke; this class is an easy ?A?.
She is always rushing we get out early almost everyday. I hate the fact that she hasn't graded anything since the beginning...we already took our final and i still didn't know what was my grade! Every assignment you do you'll have to share it with your classmates, because she wasn't us to get to know each other, i mean this is not elementary anymor
If I hadn't needed this class to graduate it would have been a complete waste of time. She procrastinates on grading. She was late nearly every day. She couldn't figure out how to work the equipment in the classroom (though she used it daily). The course material was moronic (California? Seriously?)Don't take her class if you want to learn.
Very confusing assignments. Does not return e-mails, does not grade in time. Very stupid and useless assignments. I regret taking this class with her; I wish someone had told me about her before I registered for the class. I am praying for a ?C?, no schedule for this class, I am not sure which assignment when is due???.oh???horrible, horrible, ho
As of my writing this, I haven't been graded for one essay. I wrote my first essay in Feburary, and still it remains untouched. I'm about to turn in my seventh paper, without any kind of feedback whatsoever. I have barely received any on my discussion board post, as well. Don't take this teacher if you can avoid her, it's not worth the aggravation.
At almost the very end of the semester some work is FINALLY being graded. There is NO FEEDBACK for an English class! She uses lessons plagerized from other sources on the Internet! If you don't seriously need this class, don't take it with this instructor!!!!
This instructor does not really grade anything. The semester ends in three weeks and now she claims that she will grade all of our (the class) ungraded work holistically! Sounds like someone just wants to slap a grade on a paper and not spend the time accually correcting and grading it fairly. Choose a different English instructor if you can!
This is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. I'm already almost done with the class, and don't even know what my grade is. She's very lazy and doesn't grade. In the final two weeks of class she assigns a whole semester's worth of assignments. Highly not recommended.
How could someone who doesn't teach or grade papers have a job? If you want to learn anything that has to do with English avoid this professor at all costs.
Horrible teacher! He gives a homework too many, and short time. She talks only about California. IDK i am taking Eng class or California history class. Also, she did not teach anything about english. She just reading a book, and give a homework, presentation, project. That's all.
Professor Enciso was a good teacher. As an older woman who had never had any prior college; I had nothing to compare her too. I enjoyed the class. Yes, it was hard and she gave lots of homework, and made us write and think. She prepared us for the next level, and I appreciate her for that. Stop complaining all you babis out there. Grow up!!
Not recommended at all. She's a nice lady but... Lectures aren't helpful (low powerpoint skills so you can't even read the info). Tasks are very unclear. Everything is online. Takes forever to grade assignments and when she does, her comments aren't useful. Annoying tone of voice. Feels like a California History course. Doesn't actually TEACH.
She is very nice woman. She understands their student, and helpful. However, grade policy is not unclear, cuz posible points were over. Also, she repeats only same topics; California.
I took her women in lit class and during the time I was in her class we did more group work on assignments that did not pertain to a literature class. It was more like a speech class not a literature class. I do not recommend her unless you want a class more like speech than a english class. During the class she lectured for five minutes only.
Sweetest woman you could ever meet. The class was easy. Just do the work, which isn't that large of a load. Only complaint: how difficult it is most of the time to understand exactly what the assignment is, or when things will be due. Her lectures are all over the place. The class was in whole agreement, she's not defined with her expectations
Would not recommend at all!!! Avoid this teacher if you can. This class is supposed to be an English class but feels like a California history class. She is obsessed with CA car culture and doesn't really focus on essay formatting or anything like it. Unclear on expectations of assignments and takes forever to grade anything.Avoid her at all cost.
Online class. She doesn't explain the assignment much, I only have 3 assignments graded and still waiting for the other 8 assignment to be graded. Class started two days late. Turn in a long introduction that had nothing to do with an introducing ourselves than waited two weeks before another assignment was posted. If you got patients go for it.
She is a very nice professor. She was actually a really good teacher for english 51, I would recommend taking her for this course, but she does take awhile grading papers.
I feel is a excellent teacher. I learned how to take Cornell notes, annotations, and how to write a research paper. Great topics. She was always there doing office hours when I didn't understand something. A good class to take. If you get behind there is extra credit to catch up.
She is very unclear about the assignments she expects you to do. If you ask her a question about the assignment she just repeats the same thing that is on the handout....Evidently I read it and did not understand it! She does not fully explain things, which she should because it is an online course. Don't take her!
She is VERY unclear with instructions. Multiple conversations with her to get clear directions. Very behind on grading (currently I have 17 projects turned in that haven't been graded), two weeks until the class is over and I only have my grades from week one. Chooses uninteresting and vulgar (drugs, rape, vulgarity, violence) books for readings.
She is a nice lady but she does have a bit of an ego. She thinks of herself highly. Her assignments are ok but not that interesting. Her attendance is extremely poor We read fast Food Nation. You have to do all her assignments on Blackboard. Honestly I didn't feel that I learned much.
She was always flustered when she walked into the class. When someone would ask a question she seemed to skirt around it and gave vague answers. I did learn some new things, but overall I wish the class had been run better.
This class was a lot of work. It is not an easy A glass but the professor was very helpful, the content and reading was interesting and she gave feedback on all graded assignments. I appreciate a class that is a challenge and the A I received was very hard earned.
I had always struggled with American Literature, but this class with Enciso was enjoyable which have my full attention. I highly recommended this class to anyone who had struggled with English. She is great with giving extra credit! She is also very kind!
Great learning experience! Tons of work but overall a very gratifying course. Professor is really helpful and always available to answer questions or provide clarification on assignments. Engaged the whole class through group discussions even though it was online. Also provided extra credit points that were helpful!
Oustanding professor. Always avail 2 give guidance immediately. There is a lot of reading & work to do. As an online class requires discipline & pacing. Ur success lies in ur hands. We R college students, turn in quality work & grades/ pts will follow. This isn't elementary where the teacher draws a happy face, feedback takes time on written work.
I was told it would be an easy A and I was lied to, although it was rather difficult as an online class. It was fun but a lot of reading, and I am not a reader. Overall it was a great class, the grading took a while but final grades will be posted in time before registration for the next semester. BTW this was a summer course.
She challenges you to be a great student. I have taken upper division courses and this introductory course plays to par with them. She makes you think and it's not regurgitation but new thoughts. Class is challenging but like 300 those that pass become great!
Prof. Enciso is an easy A, we did 3 debates in class all worth 100 points, and only 2 essays also worth 100 points. You're sure to get 90ish points on the debates so youre golden. She gives alot of classwork points so it's important to show up. Also, lots of extra credit chances!
This professor was one of the worst I have ever had here at College of the Desert. She is not clear on anything, and worse of all she lacks knowledge. I have had Straight A's my three years here at C.O.D. and she has made my average drop dramatically. If you value your education, money, and time avoid her class.
She is the extra credit queen. Any event at school going on? Take a selfie & she will give extra credit. Basically any school event can count for credit. To get a good grade I recommend to never miss class. Participation is valuable to her & she is very helpful & wants her students to succeed.
This Prof. was awesome!!!! Tons of extra credit available!
She was very understanding and I appreciated all the help she gave me. 2 THUMBS UP!
Great teacher. Class became friends. Presentations and lots of 3-5 page papers and lots of annotations. Do the work and you'll pass. Not only as teacher, but going to miss her as a person.
The thing I like the most, that many students may not like, is tht she gives a lot of homework. It helps out a lot more than if a professor just sticks a test in front of you every month. Every day that you miss are points you miss out on. She's very clear and actually cares about her students.
Do the work. Stay on top of it and you'll do great.
She was a good instructor. No time to relax in that class. Must be on top of your game. If you listen and ask questions, you'll survive the class. I passed with a 99%
Professor Enciso is a nice lady. I, however, think she assigns too many 'busy work'. Some assignments are so tedious. She uses a LOT of blackboard even if the class is not onlinehybrid. If you do the work then you should pass her class. She is very accessible if you need assistance.
Lots of writing less direction for the papers. Giving the freedom to write about anything can sometimes paralyze decisions. The dilemma of choice.
Shes a great teacher I loved the class , she doesnt give test but her work load is easy for me some students say she gives alot but if you manage your time well its easy.
I was confused by her lectures, most of the time I did not understand what she wanted for the class work or the homework. Most of the homework is on blackbroad which is frustrating. She does have a bit of ego and attitude. But she does give a little extra credit.
Prof Enciso seems to be very nice . She always answers questions in a timely manner. However her class is not easy. Her assignments are very vague as to what she is actually expecting of you. She often post guidelines for assignments due within days..... expect busy work, 2-3 pg essays, many 6-8 pg essays! not a class for a weak writer.
This was a good class very easy just some busy work at times but you learn a lot especially in class discussions. I would recommend to take this class it will broaden your way of thinking and it's an easy A.
Loved her. Four year college format, lots of work outside of class. She is fair with adjusting grades of assignments and deadlines if it was too much. Not easy to understand assignments, but all I had to do was tell her where I was confused in class and she clarified. Still friends with classmates. Would take her again. Lots of writing. Good feedba
I will admit her workload is a little heavy but regaurdless this is y second time taking her and She pushes me as a student to do better. She waits for grades kast minute and is always willing to help if you ask for it!! Shes a great teacher I passed both english 70&71 with an A if you listen and show up and do the work you will pass
She was super helpful and goes above and beyond the call of duty.
It's a hard class
Best teacher the school could ever have!
many presentations. locks door on you. very unorganized. very rude. endless assignments. talks too much. most horrible professor.
she is a great teacher i toke her 2 times and im passing with a B u have a to be there ever day but its not soo hard. she understands what ur going thro and she helps u out alot
She isn't the best at explaining everything. Very nice person and tries to be funny. I did enjoy her class, BUT she is very vague on what she expects from you on assignments. BEWARE, she does give assignments/projects with a deadline like a day or two in advanced. I very much disliked that but other than that she is alright.
She was ok she's very confusing when she's explaining things I did learn a lot in this class but wish she did a better job at explaining assignments throughly you will be writing a lot of essays and reading a lot ! The good thing is she gives extra credit, do not miss class because you will be super confused of you do
ENG 2 She is a great professor she tries to help and if you do not understand she re explaims it to you.
I took Prof. E's online winter class so it was all crammed into 3 weeks and it was very well organized and she was very helpful through out the course. It was a lot of work, and some of it seemed a little "extra" to me, but over all it was a good experience.
I took this class over Winter Session - She is very knowledgeable and gives VERY clear details via You tube Videos, Facebook post, Blackboard So you never have to guess what the work is to be done. There is a lot of annotating and reading. But if you are up for a challenge and ready for a GOOD College level course she is the professor to take.
I think this professor was great. The only downside is she gives a lot of homework. The topics for discussion during this course was interesting, the assigned readings not so much. Because of the amount of work and effort this class takes if I have to retake I definitely will choose an easier professor or take fewer classes so I can focus on this.
Barely passed this class due to my own busy schedule. Teacher is very nice and clear with what's expected of you. I think I'd do better with things due weekly instead of monthly but this is college so I understand I need to be more disciplined in time management. Teacher is dedicated to helping her students pass in every way & rounds up your grade.
Professor Enciso is the best professor for ENGLISH 70 she is very helpful and understanding! We mostly had to read but that's fine we had lots of presentations which she explains very thoroughly. Lots of group projects and group work. She will make you really understand the work so you get it right overall good teacher.
She was such a tough grader and her homework assignments were too lengthy. Ain't nobody got time for that!
Dr. E. Is the best and fairest Professor at C.O.D. She makes you a better learner.
Professor Enciso is caring, but her pedagogy needs help. Too many busy, non-helpful, dead-end, redundant assignments. Heavy on online work even though class is not online. She's nice and not impossible to pass, but boring.
She is the best teacher I have had ! She is very inspirational and she gives good information if you have any questions she is accessible. She is one of the professors I've had I love going to her class makes my day ! She is the best proffesor the key to pass her class is just do the work it's not even hard tbh just don't be lazy
I made a good choice by choosing Professor Enciso. She really knows what she is talking about and her passion really shines in her lectures. She is very attentive to her students, but she does give A LOT of classwork and homework. However, this is college, so that should be expected. If you want to learn the material, join her class.
She's something else, but if you keep up with her busy work, there is no way you can't pass. The work itself is not hard at all, there's just a lot of it. She allowed us to turn in as much late work as we wanted and always gave us a chance to redo things for a better grade. She is definitely taken advantage of, but she's a good person.
She's enthusiastic and well organized. The class was extremely demanding. She gave a lot of extra credit assignments.
Teacher gave us assigned us seven page paper, without providing a clear as to what the paper was to entail, upon further question, she got irate, proceeding to contradict herself, and at times not even answer the question asked. Further she assigned us said paper on Thursday, and it was due on Saturday, and we had done little class work to prepare
She is nice and lets you redo alot of homework... its just alot of reading.
Busy work like High school. Very unnecessary. Avoid if possible. p.s. all the bad comments on here are ALL TRUE. She does have an ego as well, "You guys pleasantly surprised me by your writing this year" like wtf we are in college. This isn't middle school honey. Rudest thing and insulting.
I have nothing against her personally, in fact she's a nice person, but the way she teaches is not the best. She gives many assignments that are basically busy work and do not teach you anything. You probably won't learn much in her class. Probably the worst English professor I've had at COD.
Remedial classes should not mirror a high school English class but maybe a more adult version of it? At times I felt as though I was doing a lot of busy work. Professor E gives great feedback but it is just class dependent. She does give a good amount of extra credit, and it's easy to complete.
Enciso was a great professor. She does give a lot of busy work but it works out in your favor at the end of the semester. her instructions can be a little unclear but She is very understanding and she grades easy. Her class may seem overwhelming at first but as long as you do the work you'll be fine. A LOT of extra credit opportunities.
I took this class in my first semester at COD alongside two other classes, one being a 5 units class. My 5 unit class was 10x easier to complete and keep up with and was often also described as a very difficult class. At one time I had three projects due within a week. She also assigns a fair amount of online work, apart from the campus.
You will learn many things in this class. Professor Enciso was a wonderful teacher. If you didn't understand anything she would help you out during her office hours. This is not an easy class, I can assure you that. All the books in the syllabus will be required. We read different novels and they have to be annotated. Good luck.
You have to show up to class, you will miss important things. Do not be late is also a big key. You will read a lot and have papers do. There is homework and you have to bring it the next day. If you don't bring your books you will lose points. She has flexible office hours and she will help you with whatever you need.
Professor E, is a well teacher is many aspects, which she explains every assignment in detail. However, be ready to do plenty of homework with tons of presentations along the way. She is very caring about her students making sure they are on task and on the road to keeping up with the whole class. Just remember, she will always help you.
A good professor overall, however get ready to do a lot of work. Sometimes her explanations in class are not very clear and she complicates very simple tasks, occasionally reading the instructions on canvas are easier to understand than what she says in class. Shes a nice person and respects her students. Also lets you out of class early often!
One of the best teachers Ive ever had, and I have had a few. She is very inspirational and even though the work isnt that difficult, or extremely easy, she makes every lesson fun, therefore the education comes a breeze. Caring and very considerate but disciplined. A great professor who is friendly, professional, informative and inspiring.
I loved the assignments on graphic novels but would not take this class again. By the end of the semester only about 8 or so students did not drop the class. There will be LOTS of assignments and Professor is kind of rude. Class was hard but she can be understanding. You must show up to pass and class always goes till the end, very long.
Beware that this class is extremely demanding--a ton of work and you really have to keep up with it to not fall behind. She is very sweet but often times does not give clear instructions. I worked extremely hard to get an A+ while trying to manage my other classes. Get ready to read a ton, write papers, and complete projects.
Professor Enciso gives a lot of unnecessary homework and projects. She is a slow grader. We started the term in January and she did not update our grades until March. When the pandemic started and all classes had to be online she finally decided to input grades. Overall, she is an eh professor. I do not recommend her.
Professor Enciso did not pay much regard to whether or not her students had any other classes, and frankly didn't care if we did. Assignments were worth a TON of points, so there was no leniency in grading. There was a ton of extra credit though, which made it so that we technically wouldn't have to write the final APA paper if we didn't want to...
Professor Enciso enjoys teaching and is shows. She sets-up her class in a way that makes learning unavoidable. You can't just dial yourself in and memorize what is needed to pass. There is work to be done, and it all leads to an endpoint that makes sense when you get there. Professor E's teaching style helps you absorb and comprehend the material.
She was really nice, she does have a lot of material that you have to be prepared to read. She also assigns a lot of writing and her final Is pretty large. But for those who enjoy reading and annotations I recommend her.
(Online Class) This professor gives you an annoying amount of homework and takes a very long grade. She often assigned big projects that had barely any relevance to the class besides using English and somehow connected to the books you were reading.
Very nice person. We had a discussion board w five replies, 20 pgs of annotations, and 2 pages of reflections on assigned readings every week. A 2-3 pg response paper at the end of every unit, a 6-8 pg APA research paper at the end of the semester, and 2 group presentations. She gives A LOT of xtra credit and rounds grades up. (85.5 %+ is an A).
Well, this course will prepare you for college in terms of time management and busy work. Do not take this class if you have more than 2 other classes. She does not take into consideration your other classes. I wouldn't say it was mentally challenging, more so humdrum and dull loads of work. Very unique. If you're looking for an easy A, turn away.
I took this class Fall 2022. She is a good professor, cares for students. However, there's so much reading and annotating! It is very manageable if you used your time well. We did like 3 major essays on three different books.
Tough A. Worst book selection ever, and you have to fill the books with Post-It notes. Very aggravating, and she is rude by email. Won't take again.
I signed up for another teacher but got Enciso, I assume she wasn't prepared to take on our class since we didn't have any assignments for the first 3 weeks of school. Had 2 or 3 short essays to write and two six page six-page essays. It was kind of all over the place and took a while to respond to emails. She seems like a nice person though.
