Lectures are straight from the book and she shows a lot of movies. She's fine, but nothing special.
she is a nice lady and rather interesting to listen to, but all of her lectures are STRAIGHT from the book. You don't need to attend class if you can study the chapters.
Not the most interesting class/teacher, but easy. She has funny manerisms and is extremely nice. Tests are pretty easy as long as you study off the study guide and read a bit. offers up to 15 pts. extra credit. Puts the notes online so if you miss a class you can always get them on the web. I would take a class with Apostal again.
Funny but not a very good teacher, but the class is so easy that it doesn't really matter. Her use of the word "retarded" is kind of inappropriate.
Very nice and very helpful.
If you want an A in psych take her.
boring boring boring
Very nice, took this class as a night class and we always got a break. Shows alot of videos, but the videos are very interesting and really interested me in the subject. Lectures are pretty much from the book and she posts most of the notes online so if you read/look at slides you should do fine.
very fun teacher. probably the only class i enjoyed going to. and its EASY! i barely studied for any of the exams and i have an A+. And she lets you do a LOT of extra credit.
Very easy class! I only showed up for class to take the tests, and I got an A in the class. You can participate in research studies for extra credit (up to 40 extra points).
She knows what she's talking about. Great teacher. You don't need to attend class because she takes her lectures right out of the book and then puts her notes online. Her tests focus a lot on terms in the chapters. Her personality is great and she adds some spunk to her classes. I definitely recommend her as a teacher!
Great. Second time taking gen psych. This time I was actually interested b/c of her. she is a great teacher. Take this if you have to take gen psych
Attendance now taken with clickers so find a friend in class to hand it off to ;-) All other ratings right on target. Easy, right from cook, notes online. Super random kinda out there teacher. Watch out for the marti gras beads lol
I took her for gen psych 2, I got an A on every test and have a 99% in the class. You just need to study a little for each test, but not too hard. And she gives an insane amount of bonus points. Plus she's super entertaining, kind of loopy sometimes, very out there, but you grow to love her.
Easiest professor/class combination in the world.. I pulled a 95% on the final without opening my book or going to class... "your friend Mike has become socially withdrawn, and lost interest in his hobbies, and talks about suicide, he may be suffering from: A. Schizophrenia, B. Depression, C. OCD, or D. Glaucoma" hmmmm...
easy class. make sure you go to test review days where they give you whats going to be on the test exactly.
As long as you pay attention in class you will do just fine! She lectures straight out of the book, but reading on your own is still very helpful. She doesn't try to make the tests tricky and asks straight-forward questions. Class is usually boring, and not really mandatory but she takes attendance with clickers. Choose her over the other prof.
She was a fun teacher and I actually developed an intrest in psychology. The class was easy, you just had to go to lecture and take notes. She showed a lot of videos and had questions about them on exams so it was important to go to lecture. Overall a good teacher.
She is quite possibly the most useless teacher i have ever had. Every other sentence she said ended with "I'm not really sure about that, so look it up on your own." Extremely unorganized, and generally had no idea what she was talking about
I liked her. She was kinda a nut and had very interesting attire. She was disorganized and didn't always remember info. Showed a lot of movies but they were interesting. clicker questions. tests are pretty easy if you read the book.
i enjoyed her class, she was funny in a dorky way. she didn't use clickers in my class so lecture wasn't mandatory. she wasn't always clear on subjects, somewhat scatter brained but overall a good teacher, i pulled an A and really didn't put much effort into the class.
Eh she was okay. she was easy but sometimes very absent minded and didnt know all the information that she was teaching.
She was pretty good. Her tests were easy if you attended class. Her lectures were sometimes boring, but she was so funny that they were interesting in a weird way haha. I would recommend her for general psychology at least :) Nice lady.
The class was easy, but she is useless when it comes to teaching. She gives tons of extra credit and her test questions are all straight from the book. Read the book and you will get an A. I would recommend taking her class
Such an easy class. If you do all the extra credit early on you will be legit. The tests are easy anyway, but seriously, I didn't put in much effort - the extra credit is what really got me an A. She is a fun lady, and this class will be great for your GPA. Don't think every PSY class will be like this though...
Dr. Apostal is a very charismatic woman. She has a unique sense of smile and a personality that keeps the class entertained. Her lectures are a tad dry sometimes, but I recommend reading the material before class and bringing the book to highlight in. Her lectures are almost direct quotes from the book.
very easy tests and funny teacher. skim the book, she likes to make test questions out of the critical thinking sections and personal application sections from the book. do the extra credit and read and you should get an A
Best Professor to take general psych with. She's very charismatic. There is six tests but each consist of only two chapters and plenty of extra credit.
Really easy. You don't have to go to class, though the lectures aren't bad. Just read the text well, she takes a lot of questions straight from the book. Only one or two from lecture. Six exams over two chapter each plus a lot of extra credit. It's an easy grade but you aren't going to learn and retain much.
She is amazing. Drove all the way from North Dakota to help me finish my research study OVER THE SUMMER. Seriously the kindest and helpful teacher you will ever have.
She is such a good teacher and super fun to listen to! She makes these little weird jokes in class that are hilarious. I would definitely recommend taking this class! If you just go to the lectures you will have an easy A.
Fun teacher! That's the first thing that comes to mind. The material can be dry and boring but she tries to make it fun, so play along and attend class. Gen Psych is easy but you'll be left in the dark if you skip. One day can equal 30pts on exams. Do ALL the extra credit! That saved my grade. She's really helpful when you need to talk to her.
She is so funny! I loved going to class because she would make the class go by so much faster with all her jokes. The tests are completely out of the book and very easy. Do all the extra credit, it really helps your grade out.
Hardly ever went to class, just read the chapters a few days before the test and completed the assigned papers and got an A in the class. Very easy class if have taken any prior psych classes.
She's incredibly boring, but it's a very easy class. If you do bad in this class, it's totally your fault, cos I've never had an easier class at this school. Book is probably necessary, just so you can skim through chapters before test, only hard test is the one on neural connections & cognition...
She was my favorite professor so far. She is such a funny teacher and she might be a little scatter brained at times, but overall she knows how to keep her students interested. She dresses very nice and she is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. I recommend taking her class. It is isn't difficult if you pay attention and read.
She is the easiest of all the gen psych profs by far. Seriously, if you take gen psych, take it with Apostal. As long as you read the book before the test, you literally never have to go to class and you can still get an A. However, when I did go to class she was really cool. She gives tons of extra credit too.
Awesome General Psych professor. Her lectures are a little dry, but she tries to spice things up by keeping the mood light and has some really great stories. Attendance really isn't mandatory if you've had psych classes in the past, however the day before tests she tells you literally everything you need to know for the test.
The most hilarious teacher ever. I went to class just to listen to her stories. Everything on the test has been covered in lecture, and lectures are taken from the book. She offers 30 points in extra credit. She references movies a lot and is fun to talk to. Take this class - it was my favorite of the semester!
Dr. Apostal is, overall, a good general psych professor. Her tests are straightforward, covering mostly material from lectures with an occasional question from the book. Generally speaking, you can pass the tests without reading.
Dr. Apostal is very funny. She often goes off on rants for 20 minutes about 1 topic. She knows a lot about psych. You don't have to go to the class. If you read the text book you will do fine on the tests. But make sure to read the book. Also she offers a lot of extra credit which is really helpful. I would take psych from her for sure.
She drops your lowest test. She is super easy and you should be able to get a A in the class. She reviews everything you need to know for the test the day before class.
I actually enjoyed the class. Its all lectures, so you can afford to skip sometimes. Couple papers, which are not bad.
Great Prof. If you go to the lectures, you'll get a good grade. At the end of each Chapter in the book there are 10 questions that usually show up on the test. Funny lady, down to earth. Take this Psych class.
She is boring, plan and simple. Her class wasn't very challenging though, just attend the lectures, read the book and do the extra credit research and your golden. Key thing is attending the lectures, that was kinda hard for me to do, snoozzzzze!
Probably the easiest class I have taken so far. If you go to the lectures and pay any kind of attention, tests will be easy. Don't buy the book, I don't think I opened it all year. Just take notes and go to lectures. She gives you a study guide that is right off the test a few days before.
She was honestly one of the nicest teachers I have ever had and she will continue to be one of my favorites. Her class was not difficult and she is interesting to listen to. So go to class and study her study guides and you will do just fine!
She was a great teacher to have for this subject. Though she wasn't super exciting and fun, she knew her stuff and had interesting stories to tell.
She is an easy teacher that talks about the things she tests on and doesnt go to fast.
Helps a ton to attend class, there will be a few questions from class on every test. Otherwise, just read your textbook. At the end of every unit, she gives you a list of topics that she reads directly from the test. TA's are extremely helpful as well! loved her class!!!
Easiest class I have had bar none. If you can't pass this class college is not for you. The teacher is super nice. The lecture are kind of boring but not terrible. Do not bother asking her an in depth question because she will not know. She does not appear to be very knowledgeable but maybe she is really strong in one area or something.
She was the easiest professor I've had so far at UMD. Very down to earth, but slightly oblivious at times. Nevertheless, the topics were easy to grasp, and the exams were even more easy to pass.
Dr. Apostal was a great professor. She drops the lowest test score, and there are 5. There is one group project and it's pretty easy and she gives extra credit. Basically go to class, read the book, study for your tests and you'll do fine.
Dr. Apostal was my favorite professor my freshman year! I would recommend her to anyone. She is the most fair, organized, and interesting profs I've had.
I love Kath. She's a quirky little professor who wears Hawaiian shirts everyday and cracks cute little nerdy jokes. You can tell she is interested in Psychology and loves being a teacher. I took the same class at the same time as some of the girls on my floor and I had to do far less work than what they had to do for their professors. So easy.
I looveeee Kathy! She makes lectures very interesting so you definitely won't fall asleep in class! I would recommend her as a professor, and General Psychology is a great class.
Apostal is really nice, but the class lectures are pretty boring. All you need to do is read the chapters and write down a couple things from lecture. It was an extremely easy A. The lowest score I got was 90% on a test. Also do the extra credit, you can get 20pts. I did learn a lot though.
Apostal is by far the easiest professor at UMD. If you want an easy A, this is the class for you. The tests are so straight forward, and there are just 4 papers that are a minimum of 2 pages required. She offers very easy extra credit opportunities, and makes class interesting because she is intrigued by sex, and loves to incorporate it into class.
Her tests are very easy, and she gives extra credit. Lectures can be boring, but she has very good stories to tell!
She made me laugh a lot with her examples in class! The tests follow the study guide, which makes it easier to get a good grade on them. She offers a lot of extra credit, so DO IT ALL. Take this class it was great!!!!
Quite easy, but I learned a lot. She's very clear on what you're suppose to study for tests, which made learning the material very do-able. I enjoyed the lectures and retained the information very well because of the way she taught (PowerPoint with main points and pictures on slides while she spoke about the main points in a bit more detail).
Kathy Apostal is by far one of my favorite professors at UMD. The class I took with her was a 5xxx level course and she made it seem like it was no higher than a 3xxx level. I still feel like I learned a lot with her and I thought she was absolutely hilarious. Had a ton of awesome stories to tell. Would definitely take a class with her again.
She is a very nice teacher and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. It is kind of a lot of reading in the textbook but the tests are not bad and the papers are so easy you can write the whole thing the day it is due.
Kathryn is overall a good teacher. For a gen. ed. course, she made it easy to understand the topics, and gave more tests than usual so the tests were easier. Her lectures aren't that boring, but if you read the designated chapters, the tests are easy.
Attended lecture once. Almost no homework and exams are ridiculously easy. Simply read suggested textbook chapters for an easy A.
Dr. Apostal is a fantastic instructor. In my experience with her, I have learned that if you go to the lectures and pay attention, you will get an A. She is very straight forward and doesn't make you do a lot outside of class, only a few papers and participation in psych studies on campus. Overall she knows the material and teaches it well. 10/10
I took this class and skipped a couple times, and did not listen very much when I did attend but still got an A because she posts exam reviews which cover everything you need to know for the test.
She is hilarious. I had her for general psychology and I thoroughly enjoyed the class because of her teaching style. She relates things to students in a funny and memorable way. All she grades are a few papers, research credit and the 5 main exams and 1 final, all of which are not hard to accomplish in the time given.
She is by far the best professor I've ever had in terms of lectures. They're so memorable; I don't have to study for more than 20 minutes before the test and I still get an A. If you just show up to class, you don't even have to read and you'll be fine. Very easy class, very good professor.
Apostale was made to teach Psychology. She often says shes not a expert, but she certainly knows the material she is teaching. As long as you show up to lecture and take good notes, it is an easy A. All exams are 40 questions. They are fairly easy. Use Mind Tap to study.
General Psychology was an easy class to pass. If you show up (which many don't bother) it's even easier. Every question on the five exams came from a study guide that she provided to the class. If you go over every bullet point on the guide, and read a small section of the book - you're guaranteed an A. Nice lady, though a little scatterbrained.
This was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. The only days I would show up to class would be the days of the tests. She posts a study guide of everything that will be on the test and she tests directly from the book. Overall a very easy A
Intro to Psych was extremely boring. Apostal just reads off the slides which are all posted online. She does give 20pts of extra credit for writing papers or helping with studies. Her tests are very easy and she drops the lowest exam score. You could just go over the notes and skip the class and still get an A.
A bit lecture heavy and dry, but if you skip you can always read the material instead, as she posts clear study guides on what she wants you to know. The studies you are required to go to are quick if you pick the right ones, for most I was out in less than 10 minutes! Her tests are EASY if you dont get an A in this class good luck with college.
Awesome professor. She's kind of dry at first but you get used to it and then she becomes really funny. Tests are super easy and she tells you exactly what's on it, I got a 98% in the class.
Read the book- it'll really help on the tests. They're easy though, and the book is interesting and enjoyable to read. Professor is funny and super smart. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you learn a lot of cool stuff by showing up!
Explains material well. If you attend class on a regular basis you will do well in her class- most test questions come from her in class examples not the textbook or other materials.
She is my favorite professor so far here at UMD. She has a great personality and her tests are super easy as long as you go to class regularly and study directly off of her study guides. You only need the book for one or two questions per test, so if you have a classmate with the book I wouldn't buy it because it's expensive. Easy A class, promise.
Lots of testing, and 3 papers. Gets through like 4 slides per 50 minute class. She is a nice lady, funny, and also respectful but she is a hard grader and her tests are very much applying the info you learned, instead of memorizing terms and what things are.
Your grade consists of a few papers and the rest is from research participation and tests. The tests arent hard, study your notes and do the provided study guide and youll do well. There are no surprises on the tests and the rubric for the essays are clear cut. Fun teacher, makes lecture fun and it always goes by really fast.
Three papers worth 30 points that are graded very easily. Worst test grade is dropped.
Her lectures are based directly out of the book, so you don't have to go to lecture everyday. Lots of reading though in order to do well on the exams.
Kathryn is a good professor. She teaches directly from the book, so if you read the book throughly you don't have to go to class. 3 papers that are really easy. Some extra credit at the end. No surprises. Know everything on the study guide before the tests!
Dr. Apostal was a really fun teacher. Lectures tended to be very heavy, but she always gave a lot of good examples so you could understand it. I never went to class, but I know if I had, I would've gotten an A. She seems like a good person as well and really cares about her students. You also have some room for extra credit. Loved this class.
Rambles listlessly about one tiny concept for 30 minutes. Lecture is not worth the time. You don't learn much, but in turn the tests are easy because there isn't much material. Super feminist and liberal. Manages to make scientific concepts seem subjective even though they aren't.
Had Gen. Psy. with Kathy and she was a great professor. Not only was her class easy but at times it could be really interesting and she has a really good way of getting information to students. DO THE STUDY GUIDES. The is basically your test. Also take advantage of the essays and research credits. Super easy points to improve your grade.
Very easy class. Apostal is very nice and provides all the info that will be on the tests on study guides. If you do the study guides and review them before tests you will have no problem. She also offers 20 points of extra credit and drops your lowest test score.
Super easy class. You have a few tests and the lowest grade is dropped. You also have research credit to do and some papers to write, but it's pretty easy. She does like to talk about one thing for a long time, but if you go to class, it is much easier to do good on the tests.
Dr. Apostal's Psych class is pretty easy! The exams, quizzes and 2 papers are pretty easy! She explains the content very clearly and doesn't complicate anything. Class isn't mandatory and you could pass by studying from her slides and the book but I still recommend going to class so you don't miss anything she might add onto the lecture.
Kathryn is a great professor. She's quirky and funny. She wants you to do well. About 5 exams for the whole semester. She also provides study guides for the exams and drops the lowest exam score (not including final exam). Simple quizzes for each chapter and only a couple of easy papers to write, I enjoyed the class.
Apostal was my least successful professor in my first semester. Attending her class is absolutely pointless, after falling asleep the first couple of days, I stopped going. She pretty much rambles then says "I don't know much about this" However by reading the book, I was able to get straight A's on every test and quiz. No group projects.
She made class enjoyable and discussed many interesting topics. Exams weren't extremely difficult, as she makes study guides and follows them to a T. We had classes cancelled because of weather, and she was good at getting back on track. Very understanding and lenient (almost TOO lenient!!) and overall a very respectable professor! Would recommend.
I really enjoyed my class with Kathryn! She's an easy grader, and she makes the content interesting! Sometimes she rambles and makes class drag on, but it's not a big deal. You really don't need to buy the book if you show up to class and study her notes and use the study guide!
She is a great professor and really nice. She gives a lot of tests but they are really easy if you study the guides she gives you. Also has some papers but nothing hard. she drops your worst test score too.
As a freshman, Apostal really made my first semester a blast. Shes so funny and I love showing up to lectures. (Plus, she usually drops classes on thursdays so you only have to go M-W) Ive done super well on every test with very minimal studying. She gives study guides that reflect everything on the test! Only 2 super easy 2 page papers.
She isn't a hard professor. sometimes her lectures are a little hard to get through, but nothing major. Have to do two required papers (those aren't hard either). overall a friendly lady. her TA's usually have office hours for every day of the week. she herself is not accessible, but her grad student TA's are. $73 E-book
Amazing professor
Kathryns lectures can be a little long & boring but overall I liked this class. Good intro to psych. She teaches straight from the book. I went to class so I didn't need to read much, but if you plan on skipping then plan on reading the book. Shes an enjoyable professor. Likes to make random jokes. Take advantage of her extra credit opportunities!
Dr. Apostle is very down to earth and makes her lectures enjoyable. If you ever can't make it to class-reading the book will keep you right on track. Her tests aren't hard as long as you read- I made a quizlet test based off of her study guides and this helped a lot. Also there are many opportunities for extra credit.
She only gives out a few papers, which I received A's for. She then gives out 50 questions bubble tests, which I bombed. She only graded based on bubble tests. She is very much all over the place. She is also very unavailable and wants you to go through her TA's. Her paper grading also sucked, because she uses Turnitin, which you need under 20%.
Has absolutely no passion for her subject matter, and seemingly has little knowledge of studies or researchers involved in psychology. She puts virtually no effort into any of her lectures, and isn't able to answer most questions students ask her. The course is easy, but you don't come away with it having learned much at all.
Very nice lady. If you go to class and pay attention, you should be okay. Not too difficult of a class.
Kathryn is such a sweet woman. I would definitely take this class again with her.
test are purely what she goes over in class so if you copy her slides you will get 100%. She's awefully nice and the lectures were rarely dull. Only homework is 2 short papers. extremely pleased with my experiences and would recommend to anyone.
Overall I enjoyed her class. The lectures were hard to get through at times but she recorded everything and you could rewatch one if you didnt make it to the scheduled time. I would take her again!
Apostal teaches this class in a way that is very easy to understand. Do the reading, take notes, and pay attention during lectures, and you will do just fine. As of right now, all tests are online, and you're allowed to use notes. Tests every 2-3 weeks, but you know well in advance. Overall, pretty easy class and good professor.
definitely recommend her. This is an easy lib Ed to get out of the way. Only two papers. She constantly reminds students of due dates. It is good to attend her lectures but all the tests were online so its not necessary. From what Ive heard she would be the best out of all the psych professors. 10/10 grandma vibes
I would definitely recommend her, all her tests and exams are all online and not in person. We only had 2 papers and they were not hard. We never had class on Thursdays. Everything she talks about in class is on the exams.
Kathy is the sweetest person ever, she always is making jokes and telling stories. She is passionate about what she does and explains the material in a way that shows her understanding and makes it easy for students to understand. There are 2 easy papers to write and tests on every 2 units that are online. Easy pass.
Very straightforward class, lectures are just her reading off the slides she posts on her canvas page. Tests were all online, there were no quizzes or graded homework assignments, and only two papers. Kathryn is super sweet and tries to make jokes in class.
Class was very easy, show up, take notes, read the textbook and you'll get an A. We had two small papers and 5 exams not including the final. All the tests were online too so you didn't have to take them in person. Kathryn is also just a very overall cool lady, she's funny and makes lectures interesting and engaging. 10/10 would take again.
Very straightforward class, lectures are just going over her posted notes, and tests are based on her notes, the reading material, and media assignments she assigns. Professor Apostal makes lectures interesting by incorporating activities and videos. There were two papers, but easy to write. Easy class, highly recommend!
Her general psych class is basically just lectures, and then reading outside of class. Some may find that boring but I feel like its nice to know what to expect when coming to class. She does a good job of making her lectures interesting and gives examples for many concepts, making them easier to remember. I would definitely recommend her class.
She does a good job at providing elaboration and examples of things in lectures. All you have to do is show up and listen. She appreciates you just being there because most people don't show up to lecture. The class was super easy but some things can sneak up on you like the discussions. Everything is dependent on the exams but they arent hard.
I took her Psychology 1003 class. It was Monday-Thursday, but after the first 3 weeks there was no class on Thursdays which was really nice. She gives good lectures with explanations. She is very funny and seems like a genuinely good person. I definitely would take her class again.
I love her. Her lectures are actually interesting and she uses many good examples of the concepts covered. She is funny and you can tell she is passionate about her teaching. The class is relatively easy if you just go to the lecture and take notes. Or you could just read the book, you do not need to do both to get an A in this class.
Best general psychology teacher at UMD, from what I have heard about the other ones, she is superior. Funny and easy class, just study the quizzes for the tests, and listen during class, you'll pass.
Kathy is a wonderful professor. After the first few weeks you only meet 3 days, not 4, which is great. Some of the chapters go over the same material, so that gets a little repetitive, but it's manageable. She's very funny and gives lots of warnings for discussion posts/responses and exams. Let's you out early pretty often too. Thoroughly enjoyed.
I love this professor 12/10 I would take any of her classes in a heartbeat an amazing person. clear lectures and amazing stories to help you connect the topic to real life. while attendance isn't mandatory I strongly recommend going you gain so much insight into the topics and honestly, if you show up you don't need to read the textbook.
I would highly recommend taking this class. It's pretty easy material as long as you go to lecture and listen. Kathryn is super sweet as well and makes the content interesting. If you're looking for a Psych class to take and have to choose a professor, definitely would recommend Kathryn.
Kathy is really great. She is super fun and you can tell she cares for her students. The class is super easy but still interesting. I highly recommend taking any of her class!
Kathy was good. I would definitely recommend her if you can. She is nice. Didn't reply to my emails which was interesting but other than that she was nice. She also gives extra credit which was great and it was super easy
Dr. Apostal has very funny and informative lectures. Grading criteria is straight-forward and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Pretty straight forward class. Lectures are short and super easy to follow. She gives lots of examples. 2 quizzes a unit, multiple attempts and open note. The unit test has a study guide, if you complete the study guide and actually read the textbook you will do very well. i have received 100% on unit exams.
Super nice and clearly passionate about the subject but her lectures are very slow paced and full of jargon.
Kathy is hands down one of the best professors at UMD! Take her whenever you have the chance. She gives multiple EC opportunities and the quizzes are open book with super easy exams. Note that you do need to pay attention in lecture, she will tell you exam answers!
Her media assignment is really easy and the quiz questions are usually on the test so just do your work and you'll be all good.
this professor is good, if you fill out the study guides and do the quizzes then you will be fine. the class is fairly easy and there are a lot of exams which means you are trying to learn less material at one time which is nice. The only thing I would say is that getting grades back takes a long time.
Made it very clear what was going to be on the test. You really don't have to attend class just read the 2 chapters that are on each exam and you'll be fine. She also got the publisher to lower the book price for our class, she is very caring towards her students.
I love Kathy! She always cracks jokes and then laughs at them which is hilarious. Her outfits also go hard.
My favorite professor ever!! She is honestly adorable and I show up to class just to hear her silly little jokes slipped in to the lectures. The content is straight forward and directly on the tests. She does an amazing job teaching this course, plus I love her outfits.
She was an easy professor just get your stuff done and study for the exams and you will do good.
very clear and chill class
I love Kathryn. Her class is so chill, lectures are super understandable, and sometimes she throws in a little joke or two. Lots of tests (6 with the final), but 3 were remote access. Do all the SONA studies and you can get 20 extra credit points (so easy). Classes are scheduled to meet Thursday, but we only met the first Thursday.
Do all of the SONA studies you can to get the regular credit and extra credit. It makes a bigger difference than you'd think in the final grade. Tests are fairly straight-forward. I'd recommend reading the textbook along with attending lectures.
Prof Apostal talks a lot. Her lectures are extremely large and mostly freshman so talking a lot is needed because most freshmen are quiet. Only a few quizzes but make sure to read your textbooks!! Nothing bad to say about her but just expect yapping.
Dr. Apostal is one of the best professors I've had and this was easily my favorite course I took at UMD. Although we weren't graded on attendance, it was taken every class. Honestly, if you read the textbook without attending class, you'll be fine, but I enjoyed lecture. On top of everything, she is so kind and cares deeply about all her students.
doesn't use lockdown browser
she cool I guess
Kathy is a super chill prof who keeps the lectures engaging with her jokes. The grading is straightforward - do the SONA studies for easy EC, and use Unstuck AI alongside the textbook to prep for the tests. Overall, a great class!
She is a great person and kept lectures interesting with many stories and jokes. Sadly, she did not grade that many assignments besides two discussions and exams, so it is crucial to do the sona extra credit!
lectures get boring very fast, gets hard to pay attention but attending will save u SO much time in the long run. MAKE SURE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK. all the tests are very straightforward and she gives u a study guide that has exactly what will be tested on. there were only 2 assignments other than exams so the tests are what determines your grade.
She is such a good professor, coming to her class is enjoyable and you learn a lot. She isn't boring to listen to. You don't get any homework besides a few discussion posts during the entire semester. Overall a very easy, low-stress class.
I loved General Psych with Dr. Apostal! She always kept lectures interesting and covered everything that would be on the exams in class. Low stress but super interesting class.
Dr. Apostal is very kind and her course is very straightforward! There were discussion posts for each unit and a semester-long project with a paper and presentation. Exams were held every two weeks, which is a bit annoying, but that also meant that they were typically on two chapters maximum so they were never stressful. She is an easy grader.
Lectures get boring and attendance isn't mandatory, but you should definitely go to them, it will really help you during tests. You only get graded on 2 discussion posts besides the exams which sucks so make sure to do the extra credit through SONA. She's a very caring person and will offer help, just ask!
10/10 Professor. I have graduated but back when I was a Freshman UMD used Canvas & Moodle (transition phase 18-19). I accidentally took the practice quizzes on Moodle and thought they were the real quizzes but they were on Canvas. I went to Dr. Apostal and she was very empathetic about my situation since I attended most lectures. She's a real gem!
She is very engaging in lectures and funny. Not much homework so make sure you study well for tests. Such a nice woman
Dr. Apostal is by far my favorite professor on this campus so far. She is funny and makes class engaging. The tests were not to difficult as long as you payed attention and looked over your notes. There was not much work outside of the tests so as long as you better on them you should be okay. Overall nice class and she is an amazing person.
Kathryn is great and very clear about her expectations for her assignments. This was an online course, and each week consisted of either a discussion post or an exercise and 3 quizzes. The exercises and discussion posts take longer than you think they will. The TAs for this class were hard graders. Overall an easy class.
I only attended class on exam days. Studyguides given before each exam. I would spend maybe two days filling it out/studying and I averaged ~90% over the 5 exams. 20 points of extra credit available. 3 writing assignments that are lightly graded. Overall, very easy lib ed course!
there were 5 exams throughout the semester + the final exam. she dropped our lowest grade as well. there were 3 easy discussions (150 words) as the only other homework. as long as you used the study guide, you will pass. plenty of other students were cheating but the exams were easy as long as you studied.
Apostal's PSY1003 is so SO easy. Do the reading. Go to class. Take notes. Study the night before. You will get 90-100% on every exam. The questions are so easy and have very clear wrong answers/right answers if you just put in a little effort to study/comprehend. Discussions are easy, require a LITTLE effort. Also, she's a funny lady, loved her.
She is lovely!
As long as you pay somewhat attention during lectures and do the media assignments you will get at least a 80% on the test. She is very nice.
