Professor Bender teaches a solid course that has a lot of information but isn't too difficult. There is some reading but it's definitely manageable and the homework and exams are very reasonable and representative of what you learn. She's also a very nice person and is easy to reach outside of class for help.
Dr. Bender is a good teacher, the exams are hard but she will have study sessions before. Read the chapter before class and it will be fine. Homeworks arent too bad either
Has an hour worth of homework due before every class and was rude when responding to my emails but overall not a bad person just kind of annoying and gives an unnecessary amount of homework.
Literally never knows what's going on or what she is doing.
Professor Bender gives an hour homework assignment before every class and does not go over any of the homework. In class, she discusses the same problems and does not go over the content well. It is very difficult to study for her exams because you cannot reopen your homework and she doesn't give clear exam reviews.
Nice person but horrible teacher. I feel like I had to teach myself the material from the lecture preps she assigns. She asks us to recite the information we learned from the homework videos and barely teaches new content. When she posts an exam review, she does not give an answer key. The class is much harder than it should be.
Please do not take Bender if u have a hard time understanding econ. Will confuse u more. Very unorganized & has no idea what she is talking about half the time. When questions are asked, she just asks the question back and never actually gives an answer. She doesn't include answer sheets to her practice tests so u have no idea how well u did.
Overall really difficult to follow anything she is saying. Does not teach notes, gives a lot of useless lecture preps. Expect to teach yourself most of the content. Discussion sessions do nothing for her class either. She refuses to ost answer keys as well for homeworks and practice exams.
I chose her because I did not like my other ECON professor and she was new; boy did I make a mistake. During her lectures, we literally do two questions for the entire class and most of the time the work does not make sense because she does not explain it well. Before the exams, she gives us a review sheet but refuses to give the answer key.
Not a good teacher
confuses me more than teaches
Lots of long lecture preps before each class. Most of the material will either not make sense or you will teach it to yourself. She gives test reviews that she says will not 100% prepare you for a test but gives out no answer for it. Little changes like more answer keys and shorter lecture preps would have made this class so much better.
She is very unorganized and unprepared. The homework and lecture preps are useless for exams.
Literally the worst professor I have ever had DO NOT take any classes with her for both ECON 101 or 103. She assigns hours of HW every week. The graded HW assignments are impossible and barely any on Chegg. She gives practice questions for tests but refuses to tell you the answers to the problem so for the whole course you have no idea if u r right
Dr. Bender is a wonderful human being and cares a lot about her students. She is fully accessible outside of class and constantly puts in the effort to receive feedback from her students. Many of the people who have given her bad grades either do not show up to class, or do not talk to Dr. Bender outside of class. Absolutely incredible professor!
Love her as a person but she is not good at teaching. She covers like two questions during class. All the materials are introduced through the homework that is due each day before class. There is a decent amount of homework because you will have three lecture preps a week and homework each Monday. You are basically teaching yourself.
Professor Bender is a difficult and rude teacher. If you take this class you will be teaching yourself everything in the 'lecture preps', and she will only go over at most 1 topic in your lecture. Her exams are difficult, her homework is graded on accuracy and she doesn't believe in 'curves' even when her whole class fails. Take anyone else.
Amazing Professor. You just need to put a little bit of effort. Literally she gives you endless ways to Review and is literally the sweetest and Most caring Professor. Guys I really really recommend her course.
Bender really means well, but she is not good at teaching. She relies HEAVILY on McGraw Hill. This is basically the only way she teaches. She barely teaches in class because she expects everyone to learn it from the homework, but that barely teaches anything. The exams are hard and they are nothing like the review material. Take a different profes.
Easy to get an A if you put in a little effort. She drops your worst homework score and a few others. Go to class and office hours and do the extra credit.
If you want to succeed in this class go to the workshops, answer every poll ev, and do the lecture preps. You'll teach yourself most of the material and probably fail a test or 2 but you can still end up with a B.
i loved bender's class. shes not the best lecturer, but shes a massive help in office hours. the only "issue" ive had is that she does not have answer keys to het exam reviews, but honestly im just thankful for a review. if u dont go to class or do the hw youll fail. the final sucked but the other two exams were okay. study and youll get a B.
Relies on Connect and does not really teach. Not a good lecturer. Had to teach everything to myself. Drops some scores, there's 2 exams and a final. Uses pollev for participation. Would not take again.
Professor Bender is 100% not the worst teacher but she isn't the best either. You basically do everything yourself outside of class and then in class is just a reinforcement period which I did not like. Her workshops did not really match what we did in class but they wont bring your grade down either. Lecture preps are a KILLER tho. Exams are meh.
She is a very nice woman, and it is clear that she is very early in her teaching career. Although attendance isn't technically taken, there are in-class polls that can destroy your grade if you miss too many of them. I would have also wished that she gave more guidance in terms of exam preparation, as she doesn't really give many study materials.
She isnt the worst teacher Ive had but she isnt the best either. Her notes are just graphs with no explanation which means youve got no resources except the textbook and videos she assigns when studying for exams. You basically have to teach yourself the material. But to each their own.
prof bender is amazing and i strongly recommend since she teaches core courses. Easy to get an A, there is a good amount of work outside of class but again if you do them with a little effort its easy to receive an A. she has so many bad ratings because a lot of people bombed the final, but i thought it was reasonable and she ended up curving.
Prof. Bender is not the worst if you enjoy and understand econ, but every lesson was "reviewing" the homework that did not teach you much. I did not take anything out of any of the lectures, I left class more confused than i came in and after about a month, i entirely stopped laying attention to lectures. Do not recommend if you learn from lectures
She was a very nice teacher that always was flexible, lectures never used attendance other than a few extra credit classes. Only issue was she rarely taught material in her lectures and never went in-depth, she always had her online textbook do the teaching
cannot teach economics at all. Expects you to know information she hasn't taught grades everything on accuracy
Her class is very tedious. She expects you to do a lot on your own. There is so much homework assignments that take so much time. Exams were pretty hard. I would not recommend her.
As long as you do all of the homework assignments and lecture preps it is hard to fail but the three exams were a lot more difficult than the work we do in class and for homework. Her lectures get off topic and were often not helpful in clarifying questions.
Professor Bender is the worst professor I have had so far. She makes the tests harder than any of the other Econ professors. She has the hardest homework I have ever seen. Her lectures are extremely boring and she skips through all of the important slides. She also makes you do a extensive debate and no other professor makes you do this.
Honestly the course was pretty easy, there was a lot of work but compared to other courses like chem/physics/math it was a piece of cake. Idk what the other ratings are talking about with the tests, you can generate practice tests though the online textbook and if you do a bunch of those you`ll do great. She drops the lowest of the three test also
I really enjoyed Professor Bender as I love structure. She is extremely organized and therefore it is easy to develop a schedule, since there is a lot of homework assignments. Participation matters ALOT but it also keeps you on track of the material. If you do the assignments and go to class, exams are a breeze.
She is a very fair professor. Exams are fairly difficult but one is dropped. Overall, her class was not hard to pass, and she is very helpful.
Prof Bender is a pretty good professor. She is engaging and easy to understand but lectures on the Easiest topics of the chapter. Definitely have to study hard and work hard in order to do well. Exams are easy if you study. Homeworks are more challenging than exams and pretty time-consuming. Overall would take her again.
I think the teacher is knowledgeable about the material but she can not teach it at all. She does not know how to engage students in learning or in class. Her method of teaching is just writing on blank white slides in a lecture hall. I would try and get a different teacher, so many kids stopped showing up they had to scan our UD cards leaving.
she is a great teacher for the econ101 and econ 103 that every business major must take. the homeworks are kinda time consuming but go to office hours and she will clearly walk you through it and get a really high grade. exams are easy in class and ab 20 questions. not hard at all considering everyone needs to pass really, and she is super nice
Her homework is pretty hard and all work is due on Mondays. Her lectures aren't that bad, just a little hard to understand. Overall you 100% definitely have to go to class in order to do well.
Bender's lectures go through the most basic aspects of the course material while the homework and exams require much more. The lectures don't matter and you're better off just reading the textbook and not going to class. Her discussion has a debate project which nobody else had to do in other classes as far as I know.
Professor Bender has a hard time realizing that not every student in her class is an economics major or has a passion for the subject, and this is a core class for business majors. Her lectures were extremely hard to follow, and her exams did not correlate with the homework at all.
Attendance is mandatory. The lectures have nothing to do with the homework assigned and the homework given is pretty difficult compared to what she is teaching in class. If you do the work you will be fine. Two midterms and a final and the only good thing I can say is that each midterm is only worth 10% of your grade and one of them gets dropped.
She takes attendance on random days of class. Her grades are weighted so your hw will be very heavily weighted but exams can also bring it down a lot. Participation is HUGE and going to lectures matter but also did not help me on exams or hw bc it is all unrelated. Do not recommend at all.
Professor Bender's lectures were difficult to follow and stay engaged in. She assigns a lot of homework that is due every Monday and is worth a lot of your final grade. I would recommend reading the textbook because the lectures do not cover much of what you need to know on homework or the exam. Homework assignments are harder than the actual exams
She would write 2 sentences on a blank slide and expect us to understand everything. You are so much better off just not going to class and reading the textbook and taking your own notes, however she would randomly make you swipe your one card on the way out for attendance. Overall if I could go back in time and change the class I would.
Challenging professor with homework not aligned with lectures, requiring in-depth textbook reading. Grading is unclear till semester end. Test feedback is given only at office hours. Strict attendance, no leniency for late work. Consider another instructor, and save yourself hours of textbook readings which may or may not even help with homework.
These ratings are misleading. Professor Bender is very knowledgeable about macroeconomics and I think she did a great job. You should read the textbook before homework. Exams are light because she gives you practice problems that are very similar if not identical. Don't hesitate to ask for help or clarification from your TA or peers.
Her lectures in the class only confused me more. She never tells you to read the textbook but you have to understand whats going on. Everyone would fail her exams and she wouldn't even say anything about it. You show up to discussions and just have equations thrown at you and my TA confused us more than helped us most of the time. Good luck.
Bender's lectures were brutally boring. She gets into subjects that have nothing to do with the testing material. The yellow dig assignments are so pointless. I basically taught myself because she doesn't explain things well. The homeworks are ten times harder than the tests, but her midterms and final are easy. She also drops the lowest grades.
She's a nice woman but I think she needs to revise her syllabus. Her lectures are a bit too vague and I always found myself needing to read the textbook chapters for verification, but it didn't help much. The homework quizzes stressed me out as well because I only had one chance and they were graded on accuracy.
Ngl, when I first read her reviews I was terrified. Y'all are dramatic - she is kind of scatterbrained but she is beyond certified to teach the course. Her lectures are kind of boring for the 1hr and 20mins, but if you actually apply yourself and study you'll be fine. She gives a lot of EC on exams by giving you mini practice tests on textbook site
Bender is a good professor. Her lectures can be boring but she does give extra credit on exams. U need to attend class to answer the pollev's which is a participation grade and kinda killed my grade for the days i didn't go. The homework can seem like a lot but it really isn't if you spread it out through the week.
This class was not terrible but I pretty much had to teach myself. The lectures are so boring and it was honestly easier just reading the online textbook and teaching myself.
Overall a pretty easy class if you put time into the homeworks and pay attention during lectures. The concepts learned are very basic so it's nothing crazy, you just need to understand every concept pretty well. The lectures can be boring but it's worth it to go since there's a huge participation grade worth as much as an exam.
Her lectures are long and boring which makes it difficult to focus the whole time, but the material isnt that hard
at least 3 homework assignments each week. lectures are very boring and what is covered in class doesn't correlate to the homework. some extra credit given on exams. nice lady and very knowledgable about economics but isn't a good teacher.
I took Bender's ECON 101 class during the summer session and it wasn't horrible. The only tedious thing was yellowdig since it's only a 5 week session you had to participate more. I don't know how she is in person since I never met her but her summer class wasn't super hard, just time consuming sometimes.
She is OK. her lectures are so boring she just reads from the slides. she gives a little test review in class but it barely helps. you need to teach yourself so much. discussions are pointless. her final is cumulative, and she gives no outline or review. good luck trying to study 20 chapters. does not respond to emails during finals.
Shes such a sweet woman who cares about her subject. Exams had little to no guidance BUT they did have practice exams on the textbook site to earn extra credit on your exam grade. Anyone saying the exams were impossible are lazy bc even tho she can't teach, it was easy to pass her cumulative final with a 90. overall meh, harder than should be
she was great.
Course content isnt the easiest but she does a good job of teaching it and is very organized. All of the lecture slides are posted on canvas a day of two after the lecture. Theres a graded practice, hw assignment, and yellowdig post assigned each week but its very manageable. Exams are very similar to hw questions or taken directly from past hw.
these reviews are too harsh! she is nice, understanding, and sometimes ends early. 2 midterm exams and a final, one midterm gets dropped. she gives extra credit if you do practice tests. slides are easy to understand. you DO need to study the material to understand the exams. she also uses pollev for attendance. discussions are pointless!
Prof Bender is very nice and her lectures aren't too bad. She gives extra credit on every exam if you do the practice exams and one of the midterms gets dropped. Her lectures were easy to follow for the most part and she usually does not go too fast. The poll everywhere's, the graded practice, & discussion section help boost your grade as well.
2 midterms and the lowest one was dropped. They were worth only 10% and the final was 25%. Her hw is weighed heavier at 20% and can easily be found online. She gives extra credit and the practice exams are exactly like the test. The discussions were kind of terrible tho because the TA's had no idea what they were doing. She wasn't a bad professor.
ECON101 is an pretty difficult course, but Dr.Bender does a good job of teaching it. The lectures can be a little hard to follow at times, but she is very accessible and helpful outside of class. You have to utilize her office hours.
Nice lady but I was not a fan of her structure. Homework was worth the most and the questions were so much harder than the exam questions. But other than that it was a fairly decent class.
Dr. Bender was an amazing professor! I always went to her during office hours and she really helped me. The class is difficult but as long as you study and go to office hours you will be fine! She does review games before an exam and if you volunteer to be on a team, you get extra credit!
Terrible at communication. Maybe she is better in person, she is extremly unhelpful and even with urgent matters will not communicate with you even if you are confused or in need of assistence. extra importance on yellowdig.
Very nice professor, course was taken during the winter online and very straight forward. Decent chunk of homework but not unreasonable.
Bender was the worst professor I have had at UD yet. I emailed her many times and did not respond. She made the students pay attention in lectures and called us out if we were not paying attention. She is honestly not that nice of a person but does know her content very well. I would suggest a different professor for ECON 101, course was very hard.
She has the TAs walk around all class, treating you like a child and taking away your attendance credit if they catch you on your phone.
Uses Achieve platform. Lectures are not too bad. She is a good professor and if you keep up with work its not too bad. Worst part is discussion section. The TAs are terrible. They are rude and unorganized. Would take again if different TA. She LOVES pollev and if you ever have difficulties they won't help.
Was not a fan of Professor Bender's class. Her TA's were beyond rude and very all over the place. Treated us as if we were in middle school giving us "yellow cards." The Hw was way harder and confusing and she was very stuck on office hours... not very accomodating / helpful. The disussions were a joke and confusing. Bad class
Was not very helpful when I struggled, kind of confusing when explaining things and tests are pretty hard. If you study a ton you can get by though.
I've never taken economics before so this class was very difficult and time-consuming, but Dr. Bender did a great job explaining concepts during lectures and actually wrote out examples rather than reading from the slides. Homework is WAY harder than exams. I had to study several hours a week to get an A, but she's an amazing professor.
she was alright. she had an attitude sometimes but nothing crazy. lectures were okay, but the homework was super hard and it took forever. the discussions were a waste of time.
Horrible experience with Dr. Bender in Economics. There is homework due every Monday through McGraw Hill, and most people would think that's fine BUT there are always 9 to 14 assignments due and at least 4 of them are always time-stamped to take over and hour. No meeting times with this ASYN class and Dr. Bender doesn't respond promptly to emails.
Professor is funny, lectures not bad, gives various ways to earn extra credit, will always do a review before exam, & has a lot of student hours. The TAs are communicative, so if they feel that the students need more time learning a topic, professor is willing to push back due dates. HW is harder than exams, drop 1 midterm, multiple choice exam.
Was so hard to get in contact with her, lectures were useless. You're better off teaching yourself. The homework assignments are worse than the exams. She is very stuck up. The TA's barely know what the material is. Whole class is a joke. Defintely get a different professor!
This class was an unbelievable waste of time. The rudest professor I ever had. Her lectures were a snoozefest and unhelpful, and she was mean. Her TAs treated the class like elementary school, handing out yellow cards and being rude. An unnecessary amount of homework, took hours to complete. Her discussions were a joke, and the TAs were of no help.
The homework in this class is way harder than the exams and very confusing. She is a very smart professor but doesn't know how to communicate the material to her students. My TA was very helpful, but not all TAs are like this. I suggest getting another professor for this course if you can.
You get to pick your good grading option, but the class is hard, so make sure to go to class and office hours. only gives extra credit if you participate in the review but only takes like 10 people for it. doesn't curve exams
I think she gets a bad rap. She is good at teaching you just have to go to the lectures. She does give a lot of homework which is graded on correctness. In my opinion the homework is harder than the exams. Just READ THE CHAPTERS then you can keep up.
An okay teacher but horrible at responding to emails or canvas messages. Student hours are also unhelpful since they are mostly led by students, and she gets off-track often.
Bender was honestly a really bad professor. She was rude, her lectures were super boring and her TA's were clueless. I wouldn't take bender again. Gave a bunch of a bunch of hw. She was really bad at teaching, she did a bad job explaining anything.
didn't find lectures helpful, gave final when the same class with different teacher didn't have to which was worth 20% of overall average
She's definitely not as bad as her overall rating says. Lectures can be rough to digest sometimes and she sometimes struggles to get points across. To be fair though it's hard to make sure students are understanding the material when the class size is so big. Mediocre, I would take her again.
Dr. Bender is great. She is super kind and gives engaging lectures. I recommend going to student hours and talking with her! The homework is unnecessarily difficult though.
Dr. Bender is a good professor. Her lectures aren't very engaging but there is poll everywhere which is a solid portion of your overall grade. The weekly homeworks take some time and somewhat difficult. However, if you take notes and study you will be fine for tests and homeworks.
Professor Bender is solid. She cares about the class but some of the homework's are challenging and harder than the exam questions. If you go to class and take notes you'll be fine.
Great teacher loved this class all around, she really cares about her students and wants you to succeed. Office hours really helped a lot along with the TA's
do not take
She cared a lot about students and always went out of her way to make sure we understood the lesson!
The TA's typically suck, but professor bender isn't bad. There is really high expectations for performance, so be sure to understand expectations. The exams are a bit tricky, but if you study well are fine.
The TA's are easily the worst part about this class. Otherwise, Bender is an easy professor. She even drops an exam (usually the second one)
Honestly, this class was pretty boring. She's not great at explaining things and tends to rush through the slides. You get around three assignments per week. She's not a terrible professor, but definitely not the best either. Be prepared to teach yourself some of the material.
dr.bender has awful lectures she doesn't teach, she just gives you a summary of the chapter which you already got in the textbook. the homework assignments are so hard and are nothing like what you practiced in class or during discussion. also if you go on your phone she will take a photo of your id and you will get in trouble. dont recommend
She barely teaches, and her slideshows are not good. The homework are very hard, I got a tutor and still got 70s on all of them. The average test score for the midterm was a 62, but she didn't curve it. Also, if you go on you phone in the class, she will take a picture of your id and write you up.
Mgraw Hill homework is extremely hard compared to test and other material. TAs are straight up bad, rude when answering questions, and would rather gossip. A student once asked a question to Bender and instead of answering, insulted their intellect and told him to reread the chapter instead of answering. I think that says a lot about this teacher.
Some of these reviews are literally so dramatic. Shes by far one of the better econ professors. The 1 star reviews are from students who put in absolutley no effort, but still expect A's. Get on her good side and youre fine. Sit in the front rows and answer her questions, and she will love you. The TA's and discussions are insufferable tho.
i just saw a good rating about her and i completely disagree. i have put in effort into this class and it goes absolutely nowhere. i have attended every single class, participated and i just received A 7 OUT OF 30 for participation. she an awful teacher and her ta's aren't much better. if you can do not take her class.
Awful professor. The people who are leaving 5 star reviews and saying that the lower ratings are being dramatic are wrong. This is the by far the worst prof I've ever had and I have heard this from multiple people. She is inconsiderate and uncaring. I have attended every class and done that participation questions in class and received a 3 out of30
I found Professor Bender to be a great professor, and I honestly think she gets a bad rap. She's passionate about economics and teaches the material. She is also very helpful and assists when students are confused or have trouble understanding the material- you just have to ASK her! She tries to make class fun for students as well.
Lectures are pretty pointless. She often gets distracted herself and has the TAs walk around telling people to get off their phones. Laptops aren't allowed. She doesn't explain anything well and kinda just rambles. She is rude and encourages people to withdraw.
She may not have been the best, but she was decent. She occasionally grew passive-aggressive regarding participation; she banned laptops and phones. The homework assignments usually took me several hours and were difficult. The tests were not bad, and some questions came from PollEv. I hated discussion. Just keep a low profile and you'll be fine.
the homework takes hours. the TAs are insufferable. even if you show up and participate if your answer for the poll ev isn't good enough you'll get a bad participation grade. we are treated like middle schoolers and the TAs walk around and tell you to put your phone away. can't wait for this class to be over
she doesnt really care about her students, just the class average. if ur not doing good, like i had a c, she will go out of her way to msg you on canvas to withdraw rather than offering extra help. i dropped it bc i dont need it for my major but if you do, good luck. shes bad
If you value your mental health and your sanity, run!!!! You learned nothing in lectures; TAs were beyond pointless (so were the discussions). Going to class is pointless; you're better off just watching a YT video. The way she explains things makes zero sense. She expects that you come to class knowing how to do everything.
class info gets across but tests are super hard - you can never get in contact with her outside of class and even if its important she won't answer, you have to attend all classes to hope to do well, discussions help but tests are still pretty rough - If its required j take it and get it over with but if you can have another teacher I would
Get ready to teach yourself everything and not get any help.
This class was terrible.Even after attending all the lectures and answering the poll, she gave terrible participation, tanking everyone's grade. Also she does not permit phones in class and will take your student ID if she sees you even remotely on your phone. She also will call you out if you don't know the material instead of helping you. just bad
This was the worst class I've ever taken. professor she literally wants students to fail. I went to class every single day my participation grades were terrible. she also gives terrible directions and never answered your emails and I have DSS accommodations and I would get yelled at to put my laptop and phone away every class. Get her fired
Actually horrible and rude. She has said in class that she will email you if she thinks you should audit instead of helping you. She wont give you participation points if you get the Polls wrong. Class average for midterm was a 62...Only reason I have a B- is because I taught everything myself.
Genuinely the worst class I've ever taken, she doesn't curve any tests and the average is around a 60 for all of the exams. Attendance is 100% mandatory and if you don't answer the poll everywhere's right you get points off. She also doesn't answer her emails and doesn't help in person. Overall wouldn't take the course again and don't recommend.
Arguably the worst professor i've ever taken, she doesn't respond to emails, never helps in person, and couldn't care less how you do in the class. My ID was taken in class and significant points were deducted from my grade for using my computer to take notes even though I have a DSS accommodation.
This was the worst class I've ever taken. The professor ignores emails, rambles about her pets instead of teaching, and tells struggling students to drop the class. Exam averages are D's, and she doesn't curve. If your whole class is failing, YOU'RE the problem. Also, im an A student, don't tell me im being dramatic. She seems nice, but run.
Anyone who has given her good ratings has to be lying. AS A TEACHER, IF YOUR AVERAGES ARE BELOW A PASSING GRADE, THEN YOU'RE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS AN INTRO CLASS, THE EXAM AVERAGES ARE BETTER IN MY UPPER LEVEL CHEMISTRY CLASSES. I really hope she sees all of this criticism and improves her teaching style.
I never really had anything against Dr. Bender until you needed help. At the beginning of the year, she made it clear not to email her because she would not answer. If you miss something important, don't even bother asking for an extension or help; you will not receive any.
Make sure you get every PollEv question right, otherwise you will not get participation, even though you sat through an hour and 20-minute lecture, taking notes the whole time, and being present.
If I could give her below a 1, I would. I wouldn't take her as a professor honestly. Whoever gave her higher than a one is lying cuz she doesn't care about anyone or anything. I emailed her multiple times because I was sick and she didn't answer and told me I had to take the exam and that it wasn't her fault, you think I wanted the flu!?!? HORRIBLE
Worst professor ever. I went to every single class because participation matters, but still got a low participation grade. Never emails back. The TAs also are clueless. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER PLEASE. It is an 100 level class but she makes it so difficult.
Went to every class and still got a 15/30 for my attendance grade. She grades everything last minute, and she teaches nothing.
Arguably the worst teacher I have ever had. She needs to be fired immediatley.
Awful. Just awful
please, look our for urself. DONT take her. Exams are overly hard for no reason. so much homework and its hard. fon't even get my started on her attendance policy.
This class was an absolute wide awakening that some professors simply do not care if their students do awful or not. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, she has the worst attitude when asking for help. If you go to her office hours, instead of helping you she will lecture you on why you have not gone to OPTIONAL discussions. SO TEST AND LECTURE HEAVY ASWELL.
This professor has poor people skills. She looks irritable & grumpy a good percentage of the time. Her attitude suggests she feels inferior & unfulfilled & and takes it out on other people by her attitude. If you ask a legi question about something that appears to be inconsistent/wrong she gets snippy. That's the sign she lacks confidance.
she is a bad professor takes forever to respond to emails and is not helpful when asking for help. Exams are very hard and there is a lot of homework.
This professor is hard to get in contact with; she barely answers her emails, and if so, only when she wants to. She also has a bit of an attitude. You WILL need to show up to every class, or you WILL fall behind. I had amazing experiences with every professor except for her. If you get this professor, good luck, you're going to need it!
University of Delaware loses credibility from hiring professors like this. She has a bad attitude and it shows in her lack of people skills. I hope she doesn't get tenure or this place is doomed. Avoid her!
shes terrible
0/10 woudnt take her class again if it was for a million dollars
if you want to fail id take her but if you dont run far away from this class. hardest class im taking right now
The exams are not that bad and she drops one. Go to student hours and she will help with the homework.
Professor is nice but does not teach the info well. Her tests are very hard and have too much material . The TAs are lovely but very hard to understand . It is near impossible to get extra help. The professor goes off topic a lot. Even the TAs said they fail her midterms when taking them. No curve even when class avg is a 50.
Awful professor, doesn't know how to teach, gives test problems that she never taught you how to do and wasn't in the book. Really annoying too.
Dr. Bender was an amazing professor. Her lectures were easy to understand. She is accessible outside of class. The textbook readings are not as bad as people say they are. The TAs for the class are super helpful. I would highly recommend Professor Bender to anyone who comes to UD. Take this class!!
run. do. not. take. her. i swear she wants her students to fail. DO. NOT. TAKE. HER.
about 2 assignments a week. she teaches like you all ready know all the material and goes fast but not terrible
annoying homework assignments every week, but they're online and not awful if you pay attention in class. teaches the material at a good pace and explains things well, exams are SO straight forward and questions are way easier than what is on the homework. gives three freebies on each exam to, and drops the lowest grade in every category.
If you want to be miserable, take this class. Professor Bender is impossible to reach—emailed her twice, spoke after class, and went to office hours, only for her to refuse to fix an easy issue. Her office hours for grade questions/concerns had 30–50 students waiting. She shows absolutely no empathy and the University should reevaluate her. RUNNNN!
Reviews make her seem worse than she is. Class is not extremely difficult, but she does teach as if you have learned the material already. You get to pick your grading option and can get your lower scores dropped. Will randomly give out participation points that count as "extra credit" during class. Study and go to discussions and you will be fine.
She is not that bad. The TAs are truly so awful and not helpful. She is also impossible to reach and will not answer a single email. If you actually try hard and teach yourself everything you will get an A.
I really dislike this professor she's terrible never take her.
I really dont think she is bad at all, attendance is not mandatory for lectures and the discussion sections are extremely helpful, got a 96 on the 2nd midterm w/out studying much. She honestly goes kinda slow but you can very easily do well if you do the homework and do the workshops.
I taught myself a lot of this course because attendance wasn't mandatory. 2 midterms and a final, but one midterm gets dropped if you go to the discussion sections. Kahn Academy taught me more then she did but homeworks and graded practices were easy. Multiple of those get dropped at the end of the year too.
Be prepared to teach yourself. Sat in class everyday very confused because she just reads of the slides and draws graphs with little explanation. Pick the grading option with discussion sections because those actually helped me learn the most. Teaches as if you already know the material and never answers emails.
Worst ever. She was a goood teacher like actually teaching wise and made sense but had zero empathy and was soo hard to contact.
Lots of people on here just don't show up to the lecture since it is optional and don't spend time learning the homework. I really did not put to much effort into the class and never did the readings. You need to do good on one of the midterms as one gets dropped and its a big portion of your grade. I have heard some of the other micros are easier.
Professor Bender honestly wasn't that bad. Attendance wasn't mandatory and her lectures were easy to understand. The TA's weren't great but I would still suggest taking the grading option with workshops as they're a pretty easy grade boost. Overall decent professor and I never had issues with her.
Mrs. Bender was literally impossible to get into contact with, thank god there are like 50 million TAs. The homework is long and hard and usually has nothing to do with what we do in class, nor. the exams. The discussion sections are SO STUPID. the work is NOTHING like the exams. The only reason i did well is because i asked for help on everything
Abysmal to say the least, won't shut up about Taylor swift and her
Abysmal to say the least, won't shut up about Taylor swift and her dogs, they try to trick you with exam questions and the material covered in lectures are very vague and mostly meaningless, overall horrible experience steer clear of the joke of a professor
Professor Bender is interesting, to say the least. Her lectures are not very informative, so many students choose not to attend, which in no way affected my grade or performance in the class. The midterms were relatively straightforward. However, the final exam was abysmal and heavily focused on the last four units. It was not “cumulative”.
Go. To. Lecture. Most of the people I talked to, who were failing or not doing well in the course, were the ones who never went to lecture. I went to almost every lecture and got an A in the class after the semester was over. If you go to office hours, she helps out so much with the homework's (which are awful btw). She's really sweet!
Bender's class was interesting to me. The "cumulative" final was not cumulative at all. It was an emphasis of the last 4 units. Light work minus the Macmillan homeworks (which were awful btw). Read the textbook, go to discussion sections, and go to office hours. They will help tremendously.
Professor Bender is by far the WORST professor I've had. She spends class reading off slides for a few hours and when you need help understanding anything she is completely useless. She can be very disrespectful and rude. Also at times it seems like she tries to bring her students down rather than help them. Avoid her classes at all costs.
honestly not sure how i passed this class lol i couldn't stand her
Don't even get me started on this professor she graded nothing until the last day no rubrics no outlines just vague instructions when it came to grading she took off huge amount of points for no reason. Impossible to get in contact with does not respond to her emails. Do not take her class. She's actually the worst
Easy class
I have taken Bender twice and I love her. Enjoyed this class a lot.
