Katherine is one of the best teachers I've ever had! I loved her class. She really makes art history interesting. I highly recommend taking one of her classes.
Katherine was great. She made the class really interesting and the tests were do-able if you studied what she gave you. I don't recommend skipping class -- there are a lot of notes. TAKE GOOD NOTES!! There is a lot she says that is NOT in the textbook.
Kathryn is the Maury Povich of the daytime television that is art history, she was the ray of sunlight during my semester from hell
Kathryn is a great professor. She makes the subject of art history interesting and easy to learn. I would defiantly take any of her classes again and recommend them for everyone.
Katherine is a really good teacher, she is very organized and has a great teaching method. She helps a lot with preparing the class for a midterm. I would HIGHLY recommend taking an art history class with her.
Katharine was a very good professor - she was organized, clear and very passionate about what she was teaching. I also found that she was very approachable and friendly. The class was a lot of work, and the tests were hard, but she provided very clear study guides. I don't recommend skipping classes, and I recommend taking thorough notes.
I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. Her interest in the subject helped capture my interest. She tells you excatly what's on tests, her study guides are easy to follow, and teaches you how to write a good essay. Funny, smart, insightful, supportive, interesting and passionate, Katherine is the perfect instructor.
Has such a passion for what she's teaching and she really knows her stuff. She was an amazing teacher with great enthusiasm. I really thought I'd be sleeping through this class, but she made it so interesting.
She is a pretty good prof. She knows her stuff and as long as you study her tests are a breeze. I felt like she marked the essay a little unfair. Overall a good teacher.
i loved her! she was such a great prof, she told you what you needed to know and was very helpful. class is defs mandatory, as she gives quite a bit of notes, but it is worth it. she definitely made me want to take another art history course. highly recommended!
Brilliant prof, explains everything very well and is always willing to answer questions. Be prepared to take lots of notes. Gives a lot of extra info in class, so best not to skip any classes.
Took two classes with Katherine. She is great, tells you exactly what you need to know. A little hard on you when marking essays though. However, overall, she is a great prof! I'm minoring in Art History because of her!
I have taken three classes with Katherine, and I was to take more. She is my favourite instructor. She's passionate, clear, concise, interesting, and helpful. Her tests are a little difficult, but she tells you excatly what's on the test and what to study and if you actually do study it's a breeze. THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT CLASS KATHERINE :)
Kathryn is definitely one of the best professors I have ever had at mount royal. You need to work hard to get an A but I actually looked forward to going to her class during the spring semester. It was so interesting! I feel as though she marks very fairly on both the tests and the essay. She is extremely nice and was very helpful when I had questi
Continued.. questions regarding my essay. She puts the study slides up early so that you have plenty of time to study and provides useful study guides. Wonderful lady and I highly recommend her!
Katherine is very passionate about art history and wants students to do well. She encourages collaboration in class and prepared us very well for the exams. Take thorough notes, pay attention and you'll ace this course. Highly recommend her!
Fantastic prof. She does go over material quickly, and her tests are challenging. But she gives you a study guide well in advance, and posts the study slides on Blackboard. I wasn't too crazy about art history at first, but after only a few classes I was always looking forward to it. Lots of tests, but only one short paper. Take her class!
Best prof. I'm currently taking my 4th class with her because I absolutely love her teaching style. Katherine can talk in a continuous, inflective stream, all the while making vast subject matter interesting and relevant. Take her classes! If you follow along, take diligent notes, and pay attention to her FAIR study guides, you will do great.
WOW! What an amazing professor! She is definitely someone who actually wants to see her students excel in what they are doing. Tests are challenging but she gives you an amazing study guide well in advance so there are no surprises. Her lectures keep you interested in the subject material, even at 8:00 in the morning! She is a wonderful professor!
Clear on her expectations, very available for help, reasonable! Can keep your attention for 3 hours without waiver! Cannot recommend her enough simply the best prof on campus!
Kat is the BEST teacher i have ever come across. I took ARTH 1103, just because she was the teacher. She is incredibly helpful, and will go out of her way to ensure you do well on a test/assignment. She is approachable and friendly. Attendance is a must, but she makes it interesting. I had no interest in art before this class and now i love it.
Katherine is an amazing person and teacher. I loved her classes so much. She is funny, interesting and smart. Cant say enough good things about her. Tons of memorization but she is super clear what tests will look like. I never bought a text book, her lectures are all you need. GO TO CLASS if you want to do well. I preferred 1101 to 1103.
Katherine Brownsey is great. Her class is super interesting. There is a lot of content involved, but it is not her fault. The course covers hundreds of years. Attend class and read the text and study study study!! It is so worth it and she makes her expectations completely clear.
Kathryn is awesome! Her class is always interesting plus she is very helpful. Her class just flies by, and I attended the 8:00 am class. Highly reccomend her as a teacher!!
Katherine is one of the most incredible profs I have had in my three years of university. She has a genuine passion for the subject which she passes on to her students, and her teaching is clear and well paced. She is always available to help out too, she even gave us her home phone number so we could call her outside of work hours!!
She is a really great teacher, makes a boring subject interesting. She's really helpful and very clear about exams and what she wants from you. Though she is not a easy marker on papers.
Kathryn is a lively and kind instructor who wants her students to understand and succeed in Art History. She does baby her students by giving them tons of freedom on the exams, but this course still requires studying and definite attendance. Overall, she has made this intro course much more entertaining and tolerable than usual ARTH intros.
I. Love .Katherine. If I could write an ode to her I would. She's so passionate about art history and maybe that's why I did well in her class. All the material in class is available online, but the notes you take in class are essential to tests. If you pay attention and ask questions you'll get good marks. I wish she taught more classes ):
Katherine is so passionate about her subject, that she inspires all her students. Her passion has made me reconsider my degree! She is also really approachable if you need help, and has been really accommodating. You do need to attend her lectures to get great notes to get an A in this class, but her lectures are very interesting!
Kathryn is the best! Super sweet and highly knowledgeable. Tests are a standard format, no surprises, but studying is an absolute must. Definitely attend class and take notes as her PowerPoints don't provide enough info for the test. The textbook is useful occasionally (and is REALLY expensive), but does not go as in-depth as her lecture materials.
Kathryn is a great professor. If you show up to class and you study for the tests you can get a good grade. She is passionate about what she teaches and I love attending her classes. Every semester I check to see if she is teaching a class I haven't taken yet!
Exudes passion for her subject. I took Art History, and it felt like attending a Ted Talk, every time I was in that room. While the testing format can be stressful, it can be done without the ridiculously priced textbook mandated for this class if you attend. Discussion is enriching, and you feel smarter taking this course. Highly recommended.
Kathryn is one of the best teachers I've had at Mount Royal. There is a lot of memorization and content to cover but if you attend class and take notes you won't have a problem. I was not interested in art , but she's made me change my view of things. I will definitely take other classes with her.
I took art pre history up to the renaissance with Kathryn, and it was an amazing class. The lectures are amazing, and really interesting. Kathryn is also a great prof!
As my first Art History course, Kathryn made it very easy to love this topic with her intuitive lectures and amazing teaching styles. Very clear and patient with lectures and assignments and always willing to help if needed. A fair bit of information to memorize but if interested in the course there should be no issues.
Kathryn really knows how to contextualize what you look at in this course. This course is mainly memorization, but as long as you listen in class and take notes on what she says you'll be successful. She's a really caring prof and doesn't make anything complicated. Everything is straightforward, so as long as you do what's expected you'll do well.
A great prof, funny and kind. Passionate about art and makes the subject interesting with her engaging lectures. Responds to emails super fast and always willing to answer questions. A lot of material covered but if you take notes and study you should be OK, and she is very clear about what you'll be tested on. Loved her class, a wonderful woman.
She is an amazing professor at Mount Royal. Truly one of the best! If you have any interest in art history, I highly recommend Kathryn. She made the class really interesting, and how much knowledge she has about the paintings and the time periods blew me away. Very clear on what the tests will be like and always wants to help her students!
nice lady, willing to help but hard market , for an intro Art Class she marked as if this is your major !
I absolutely love taking classes with Kathryn! Her lectures are interesting! You can also get by without a textbook which is nice! Her tests are very heavy (you have to know a lot) but she gives you all you need to know and as long as you ACTUALLY study you will do great!
She quit teaching the class two weeks in and left the students
Ive taken two classes with Kathryn and she is probably my favourite prof at MRU. Her lectures are always interesting and shes very approachable. This course is only hard if you think you will be handed an A for minimal work.
Class is not easy, no homework or textbook needed but memorization is key to pass. Her lectures are so boring that people are either sleeping or on their phone.
Kathryn is incredible! She expects you to take notes as she speaks about exam images and her descriptions/analysis are easy to understand and memorize for the exams. She ensures success for the exams, and no other homework is given but one short essay. Loved this class so much I declared art history as my minor!
Shes the sweetest lady Ive ever met! She gives really good lectures that have related PowerPoints and has so much knowledge to share I have taken two classes with her and she is lovely! Would recommend!
Such an amazing professors bc she gets straight to the point and uses time wisely. Textbook isn't mandatory bc it's only if you u want to read more about the art pieces. Just show up to class, and you have everything you need to succeed. I suggest studying EVERYTHING u studied bc the art pieces u thought aren't gonna be on the tests, they show up.
Kathryn is such a sweet angel. Her courses require alot of memorization so as long as you show up and listen to what she has to say the art history courses are very do-able. She will always give you an extra hand if needed as well.
Such a good teacher, she makes all of the material easy to understand. She has such an understanding in the stuff she teaches. However, you do have to attend the class to get all the notes as she doesn't post any of it.
I absolutely adore Kathryn; shes probably the sweetest lady youll ever meet. Her tests are all based off of in class definitions and pieces of art, so get ready to memorize. I used flash cards and it worked really well! As long as you take notes and study youll be fine, but not the class for you if youre not great at memorizing!
Fantastic professor, clearly cares about her work and makes what could have been a boring subject very captivating. Lectures are incredibly informative and she sets you up for success with her PowerPoints and study guides. One of my favourite professors that I have had so far and I am so excited to have her again for my next semester.
Kathryn is a sweeheart. It is evident that she loves the content that she teaches, which makes it interesting to learn. Midterms are based off of her study guides and powerpoints, no surprises at all. Lots of options to choose from for the one essay we need to do, there will definitely be something you will enjoy!
Kathryn is honestly the best prof ive ever had. I took her art history class based solely off of her reviews and it has not disappointed! I would love to take another art history course now, especially with her. Shes an easy marker and a really caring person! Definitely take this class if you have the opportunity
She provides great feedback on your essays but be prepared for tons of reading. Though they aren't long and take an hour to complete maximum, you do one almost every week.
Kathryn is a great professor! I had her for the first time this semester and registered for another one of her classes next semester. As long as you attend class, take good notes, the course is super straight forward! No surprises at all. She is so caring and easy to communicate with. Would highly recommend!
By far my favorite prof at MRU. I've taken two courses with her and am genuinely upset that I've run out of gen ed options. I would love to take more! Her passion for art history is apparent in her captivating lectures and care for her students. Her Powerpoints clearly outline the testable topics which makes studying easy. I highly recommend her!
Kathryn did a wonderful job adapting to online. She always responded to emails and gave great feedback and support on all assignments. Fair warning, though; if you have to take her online, she gave exams as essays rather than multiple choice (which was difficult, but not horrible). Overall her lectures are extremely informative and enjoyable.
Her passion for what she teaches is clear. She makes sure that everything she speaks about is understandable to us students. My favourite teacher so far! If you have the opportunity to choose Kathryn, pick her!!!
Kathryn is an amazing professor and really cares about her students. Her classes are great if you have an interest in art in general but her classes are quite lecture heavy. She is a fair grader and is very easy to get in touch with if you have any questions. The textbook isn't necessary for her class as long as you attend her lectures.
She is one of the BEST professors I have had. She makes the concepts easy to understand and on her PowerPoints she highlights all the important info that you need to know for the tests.
This is one of the most boring classes youll ever take id rather watch paint dry. I will say she is very passionate about what she teaches but I am not so I found it hard to wake up to even get online. The content is boring and the course is not very interactive.
If you have a chance to take any class with Kathryn, take it. She is passionate about what she does and that makes her class worth wild in itself. I found her class very easy, I focused on my other courses and was still able to pass this course with flying colors. As long as you go through the slides and understand the broad topics, you are gold.
She posted all the slides she used during the lectures for review before exams, so as long as you take notes during class it's easy to get a good grade. There were only a few papers due throughout the term for a large portion of the overall grade, but they were easy so long as you take notes.
Kathryn was an amazing prof. However, her lectures were really heavy and time-consuming. But she is a fair marker and her classes are very interesting
She was the best professor that I had awhile back and she is really good at explaining the material very well during class. She also provides an idea on what to prepare for on the exam during the course.
Shes my favourite teacher here 100%
One of the best Professors at MRU.
She has a lot of tangents that go on forever. Without a source of entertainment it's pretty hard to get through to be fair. She has a good understanding and the class makes sense as long as you explain yourself and your interpretation it's not that difficult
Kathryn is an ABSOLUTE GEM. I'm new to art history and she explains everything in a really beginner friendly way, she has so many insights, is extremely knowledgable, tests are super fair, extremely reasonable marker, and it's just genuinely a pleasure to listen to her speak. 3 tests, all online essay questions, and a paper. Great prof!
Kathryn is one of the absolute best professors at MRU. You can tell that she is passionate about what she is teaching and that makes the lectures really engaging! there were three tests and a paper, each worth 25% If you go to class and take notes, you'll do great! -coming from someone who doesn't test well. also, she is great about accommodations
Kathryn is an awesome professor. She is passionate about the material, making the content more enjoyable to learn. There is only 1 essay assignment, and the midterm+final were 2 long answer questions. If you take some time outside of class to study, there's no way you won't do well; she even lets you bring a cheat sheet to the midterm and final!
She is one of the best professors at MRU. She would explain the material very well.
Professor Brownsey is an empath and a giver by nature. Makes all feel welcome and included in class and has a good, positive energy. Is very kind as a person but a perfectionist and a tough grader. Does not spend much time analyzing where the student is coming from in their writing and is very particular about what she wants to hear...
Kathryn is overall a very organized prof who provides high quality lectures. She can be a detailed marker for sure, but she is also willing to discuss ideas and help you to understand better what she is looking for in the assignments she gives. Ultimately, if you care about her time and work, she'll care about yours.
I took ARTH1103 as an elective and I would take many more if they were with her. Her lectures are important to attend to do well on the exams, but she makes them incredibly interesting. You can tell how passionate she is about the subject, which makes her students very engaged. She is kind, caring, and always open to help when you need it.
She is truly a gem! You have to attend class because it's mandatory but I'm sure you will enjoy her lectures. She is very passionate and straight to the point. Take notes and you will have it easy on the exam!
Kathryn was genuinely fantastic! It was easily one of my favourite courses, and she was a huge reason why. Her lectures were highly informative and engaging, and she recommended that you attend them to get their total value for the exams. Kathryn also posted detailed study guides well before exams. I would gladly take another class of hers!
Professor Brownsey's class was incredible! She is very passionate about the subjects and gives great insight into each artwork studied. Pretty easy marker too. The class only have 3 tests and 1 paper. Would recommend her class for anyone needing a Cluster 2 Tier 2 class!! Her outfits are always fire too
Kathryn Brownsey was an overall great professor. She mainly did tests (three, including the final) and participation matters; took attendance every class. Lecture heavy, no group activities or anything. Easy and fast grader, always explained what she was looking for in the test and pointed out which to prioritize in learning.
She is a decent teacher, but her lectures were extremely boring. The majority of grades come from two midterms and a final. I personally did not enjoy this class and the memorization. She also spends unnecessary time reviewing nonstudy images rather than the content we need to know.
This class is stressful. Attendance is mandatory, study guides are overwhelming, and tests barely cover what you prepare for. Slides lack useful info, feedback is minimal, and grading is tough. Combined with irrelevant content, course is a nightmare. Test 1 (20%), Test 2 (20%), Final Exam (25%), Essay (25%), and Term 1/Term 2 Attendance (5% each)
Mrs. Brownsey was a great professor, her lectures were super interesting. This was by far my favorite class. The only thing is there is a lot of things to remember.
Kathryn is one of the best profs ever, shes clear with what she wants on tests and assignments which make it extremely easy to get an A+ if you study the material. shes very friendly and genuinely is passionate about art history and it shines through on her lectures; attendance is mandatory and her discussions make helpful notes.
I loved this class! Kathryn was an amazing professor and was very passionate about what she was teaching, making it all the more enjoyable! She was also very transparent about what tests and quizzes would look like, making them easy to get an A on. Loved her so much!
She's organized and provides clear outlines and expectations. This course is mostly memorizations, so it's on you to show up to class and engage.
I loved Katheryn's class so much! She's an amazing prof and the content is super interesting! She's quick to respond to emails and is available to meet outside of lecture. I'll be taking another one of her courses again for sure!
There is a good chunk of memorization in this course, but if you can do that then you can easily get 100%+ on exams. Participation and attendance is marked. I did enjoy this class as it was really fun to see different artworks and learning about their context. Prof Brownsey is also caring and very sweet, she is able to help guide and give feedback.
I had Professor Brownsey for both ARTH 3313 and 1103. I had an amazing time in both classes and would reccomded either with her. You will need to attend the lectures or refer to the textbook if you miss class, but I found her lectures very engaging. Her tests are HEAVY written, but material is all from lectures. Would highly recommend her as a prof
Kathryn will give you everything you need to succeed as long as you show up and if you miss just refer to the textbook, her tests are a little heavy on the long answers but they are straightforward, she literally tells you what you need to study and what questions you will be asked like a month in advance, she's super sweet and really cares
Professor Brownsey does her best to help and ensure you understand the content in the most well rounded way possible. Her tests are quite heavy with lots of written, but it was doable so long as you do the work to understand the material well.
