she isnt very clear as far as whats gonna be on exams, which are kinda hard. lots and LOTS of talking and notes...didnt crack the book open once. but very nice as far as letting u do makeups and stuff.
Don't buy the book! Never used it. All test material came from lecture notes. Class is a lecture class. Our class did a paper on the Democratic Presidential Primaries and 3 Tests (Non-Cumulative). I recommend for those interested in Government.
Kinda Hard. I usually fall asleep. Our class had to do a paper on the Supreme Court Decision on Bush v. Gore. And you never use the book so don't buy it.
I Think thats the class number. Its american Government. She super easy. Just copy all of the notes that she gives you and you'll pass all of the tests. DONT BUY THE BOOK!! Great teacher! :)
She does a good job and is easy to understand. She doesn't have one of those montone voices so you don't get bored.
she is a great teacher! talk to her and let her get to know u and she will be lenient on her grading. dont buy the book!

Cool teacher. Very kind and helpful. Let me turn in an essay late.
VERY NICE and VERY HELPFUL... lots of notes though.. u find urself dosing off in class towards the end, but not because of her, more because of the subject. She's very clear on what she expects. Essays are easy. Tests are based solely on the lectures, but since there is soo much material..U BETTER STUDY!.. Overall, GREAT TEACHER!
Test are simple if you study. The paper can be a ****. But it can be done.
Very nice attitude, all powerpoint presentations. Gives 3 test that can be passed easy if you study.. 2 papers are cake and she is a very easy grader!
Awesome teacher. Very nice. Easy class. Got me interested in political science. I recommend her.
The GREATEST teacher I have had. Very fair and help full extremely easy tests straight from her NOTES. Just be in class everyday or else you miss out on questions on the tests. Very intresting as well she wont bore you.. But might no teach next year
Awesome teacher super nice. Alil bit of a space case but aren't we all. Doesn't take attendance!
I can assure you that prof. Depalo will help you in any way possible. You obviously HAVE to review the material, otherwise you will not pass! The tests are not hard, minimal use of textbook(you just look at it), and you MUST take the notes, the tests are based COMPLETELY on the notes. Good Luck :)
Great professor, knows what she's talking about and is extremely enthusiastic when teaching. she wants her students to be interested in politics and will do anything to help us understand what she is teaching. Pay attention to her notes and you will pass the tests. Highly Reccomended!
Her class notes are exactly from the readings. you should go to class if you dont want to read the book. you shouldnt miss her notes bc the midterm & final are based on her notes. she isnt super easy, but if you got to class & do her work & read over your notes before the tests youll be fine. 1 5 pg paper (court observation), 1 midterm, 1 final.
She teaches from powerpoints and her tests are directly from the notes!! As long as you go to class and study for the tests you'll do great!! No mandatory papers.. only optional extra credit essays on some books! Easy easy easy!! :)
Although I had zero interest in political science, I found this class to be doable. She's not boring, an easy A.
great teacher, go to class take notes and read the book and u will be fine the book is easy to read MT and final short answer if u take notes in her class dont worry about it! those that complain is bc they dont go to class or dont take notes at all! i got an A in her class!
Doesn't like if you miss class. MUST read chapters in order to pass the test. You take notes down from her powerpoint presentations for each class. You do weekly assignments from a website that you have to pay like 25 dollars for. I passed with an A but many people did poorly on the tests because they only studied the powerpoint notes.
She gives notes based off power points. These notes are usless so dont even bother with them. The only thing that helps you get A's on the tests in this class is reading the chapters. I got an A on all the tests that I read the book. But got a C- on the test where I only studied the notes. Also pay attention to her, it helps alot.
Professor DePalo is very knowledgeable about the subject matter of the class. She tries to make everything very clear. You just have to pay attention in class and copy the notes so you can later use them as an outline when you are reading the textbook. Reading is a MUST if you want to get a good grade. Go to class, study, and get a buddy.
Hard test grader, most of the class didn't do so well, attendance is a must on fridays, doesn't matter any other days. Read from book. Try to pick someone better
Nice, happy and energetic. Know's her stuff very well! Very helpful.
Extremly energetic and bubblely! She loves her job and the subject she teaches. Politics is her sport. You might find her high pitch voice a little annoing at first, but regardless, she is very intelligent and knows her subject very well. Expect to deal with a true college professor when working with her. She is great & very professional!TAKE HER!
Great Professor, very energetic and fun to take. I really enjoyed the class.
I like this teacher.. the only thing is that there is no interaction with the students.. only lectures.. she repeats the words alright and fascinating about 1000 times a day..overall the tests aren't as hard as I thought they were going to be..the notes help but its essential to read the book.. I would recommend taking her..
Read! Make chapter outlines! This class seems deceptively simple at first, but its not. You'll be fine if you stay on top of your readings. She is a great teacher, very passionate and as always, you'll take what you put in from this class.
She makes American Government very simple and interesting. How can it get any better?
good..
She is funny but sometimes goes off topic. The mid/final are essay. READ! she always gets mad when people don't read. Sometimes she asks random people questions and when people don't know the answer she kicks them out of class. Midterms seem harder then the final. There is also a paper where you just go to court and write what you saw. I like her.
She's always saying "fascinating" and is actually a pretty interesting and funny teacher. I like her a lot. Just read the book and participate and you'll have a good time and come out with a good grade.
1 midterm 1 final and a 10-15 pg paper. interesting character, discourages ppl from becoming lawyers. according to her she is very "realistic" which is why she goes off during class. tells you whats out there with no difficulty or at least her life. do recommend her and the course as well.
Good professor. Her lectures outline the chapters well, but you must read the textbooks. I definitely recommend her.
Did a great job with the class, super simplified and broken to a point where anyone can understand it. The power points are all you really need, I never opened the textbook and got and A in the class.
She constantly has a very negative attitude, but makes the lectures interesting. The class itself isn't that difficult. There is a midterm and a final, both essay format, and a paper. She goes over the readings in class, but you won't understand anything unless you actually read the books. Bottom line: do the readings and you'll get a good grade.
Constantly has a very negative attitude. Discourages students from becoming lawyers on a daily basis, and not very encouraging towards student when she is supposed to be an advisor. Too emotionally connected to her work. Do not recommend as a professor or advisor.
She's amazing! Very knowledgeable in her subject and a clear lecturer. Her tough grading pushes u to the limit in a constructive manner. She's funny too! Kinda reminds me of Monica from the TV series "Friends".
Show up to all the classes, copy down all the notes and study them. You have to buy the workbook because she makes you rip out the pages every Friday when an assignment is due. Test is easy if you study the notes. Straight-forward.
Attendance is not mandatory but definitely necessary! Her lectures work like outlines to the book and if you have good memory, you probably don't even have to read the book (I didn't)! She is helpful but don't forget to do those Friday reading assignments, that can really lower your grade! Overall good teacher and will take again!
super easy. attendance not mandatory, three exams the whole class. you dont need her notes just by reading the book you do good in the exams. got a B.
Very clear lectures. Tough grader. She wants you to be very SPECIFIC and DIRECT when you answer the questions on the written assignments and tests. Do this and you will get a good grade. Got a B. If you're a slacker I suggest you not take this professor. No room for laziness here.
Very boring, stiff, displaying a sense of overbearing self-importance lecturer. She can't stand smart students. Her requirements are to memorize her words and to have zero of your own thinking. If you want to lose any interest in Political Science - her lectures are a must.
Depalo is nice, answers emails quick, and will rephrase things more than twice. HOWEVER, this class has been the most BORING class I have ever taken. She talks WAY too fast during lectures. No really. She made me question if I really wanted to be a political science major. I would NEVER take a class with her ever again.
THE WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. No original thought encouraged in her class. All she does is talks and talks and talks hardly letting students to participate. Very boring and doesn't bring anything different to class other that what's in the book. If I could ever go back in time I would NEVER take this horrible professor again. NO talent.
wow I'm surprised to see some positive reviews about her cuz I think she's the worts professor I've ever had. I love political science and she made me hate it. Many students dropped her class and she didn't even care. very very careless and very unoriginal in thought and teaching process. I'm so disappointed. You can tell she doesn't care to teach
Prof DePalo is a great professor. I've taken her 3 times and if I need another class that she's teaching, I would take her again. Her lectures are entirely on the book. And her reviews are really helpful! Study and you'll get an easy A.
Run Away!
There are 3 exams including the final, each worth 1/3 of the grade, and you need 94% for an A. The second exam is the hardest, and the final is not cumulative. You must take notes and study them and also study the book. She is a good professor. Just study and you will be fine.
She is a great teacher who has passion and great understading for what she does. The class is not hard if you have a basic understading of American History. There are 3 tests and they are multiple choice, straightforward questions. You do have to study and take notes like any other class but her notes are really helpful.
This is the 2nd time I've had this professor. She is great. It is pretty easy to get an A. Grade consists of a midterm, final and a short essay
She's boring at lectures. Her class is easy to pass, especially if you read the book since her lectures are based on the reading. If you do the reading you don't have to attend class really. Could have gotten an A if i did the readings.
Depalo is extremely clear and concise. She tests straight from her powerpoints. 3 exams total. The last exam counts as your "final". I recommend her highly if you want an A.
VERY clear lectures. 3 tests that are not cumulative. Attendance not mandatory, but go if you dont want to read the book. No negativity that I witnessed. Lectures are interesting if you are truly interested in politics, if you're not then don't bother with this class. Highly recommend if you like poli sci and want an EASY A!
Very clear. 3 exams based on the book, but make sure you make it to class lecture because she will give you hints for the 3 exams. She will let you know in which sections you need to focus. For success in this class you have to read the book and attend class regularly. Her power points are something you will need, there is no study guide for exams.
Show up to class, attendance is optional but highly suggested. Get the textbook! and do the readings, readings are short and easy throughout the semester. She gets lost sometimes talking and it can drag on but not to worry, if you take down notes and listen you reinforce the readings and should pass with flying colors.
She is a good professor you just have to read the material. If you read the chapters you'll get an easy A. I barely read and I got in the high 70's once I read the chapters I breezed through the questions. Trust me its easy read it get an A. She is funny too.
Dr. Depalo is a very capable professor and instructor. Provides good feedback and realistic expectations. Her assignments can be long but they will be engaging. She also a tremendous help in dealing with FIU, I can assure you that she will help you however she can. Great Professor!
Prof Depalo is one of the greatest prof in FIU. her class is extremely easy to understand and she is very straight forward on her lectures. the class consists of 3 exams. there is no participation in class what so ever, because she just lectures the entire time, but trust me you're going to want to listen! would definitely take her again!
Easy, need a gpa boost, take it.
I took three different classes with Professor DePalo. She was one of my favorites at fiu. I learned so much and really enjoyed her classes.
She's a good professor and she's very sweet. Her lectures are interesting and she explains concepts in an easier way to understand if you're confused. HOWEVER, don't skip class because you won't pass. You have to take notes, read and definitely pay attention. Her class is 2 exams and 1 final. 1 extra credit opportunity. Also, she talks A LOT.
Easy and interesting class, 10 discussions 3 exams not proctored. Responds to emails promptly and gives good feedback, take her!!
Amazing profesor!! I took the 6 weeks summer course and I do not regret anything. She is super helpful and quick to email you back on whatever you may ask. The class consisted on 3 exams (50 questions), and 5 weekly discussion posts. Take her!!
she does a great job of explaining the basic foundations of american gov't, if u didnt earn a good grade in this class, u blatantly didn't try. even if u skip class, u can catch up by reading the text book or looking for flash cards on quizlet.
DePalo is a great great professor! Cannot recommend her enough, she really knows her stuff. I'll admit she does have an attitude but just don't get on her bad side and you'll be fine (i.e not reading, or not paying attention) The class was also extremely interesting. She's one of those professors who just really wants you to pass AND learn.
If you can take this class w/ her online, DO IT. 12 discussion post, last 2 are extra credit. 3 exams, easy if you get online text book so you can search while taking them. Only reason I didn't get an A+ was because I missed multiple discussion post. Highly recommend, especially if you need her for PoliSci major. Discussions were very interesting.
Read and attend class, lecture in class, make a friend to get notes from if you miss! 3 exams, 50 multiple choice questions
This is a politics on film class, which means you watch movies and then write analytical papers about the politics of the films. There are 4 papers overall. It was such a fun and interesting class, would definitely recommend to everyone. Attendance is MANDATORY (which is fair because all you do is watch movies) so make sure it fits in your schedule
Second time I've taken Depalo- she's the best. Class is super easy just take notes and study them. She gives you a study guide of the test anyways so it can't get more straightforward. She's a great lecturer and really knows her stuff, take her! There are textbooks but you'll be fine if you don't get them.
Professor DePalo is a pretty ok professor sometimes she moves fast during lectures. DePalo usually give 8 questions in total then she pick 4 out of 8 questions for the exam. She also assigned State project to do. No you can't pick your own state. She does a rifle to pick your state. No can't pick Florida as your state.
She usually give about three or four questions the exams. You have to do the women's project she also doesn't let you pick your own candidate. She basically does the picking for candidates. I haven't really learn nothing her class but memorize the questions for the exams. She's ok professor. She teaches from charts and maps.
Dr. DePalo is a great professor ,but her exams are just too specific and hard. There are 3 exams and one paper THAT IS IT. If you are good at exams then this is the professor for you. ( She gives you a study guide that is 8 pages long for an 8 question exam)
Dr. Depalo is amazing! I learned a lot in her class! I took her in 2018, and I still remember concepts from her class! Her teaching and exams are clear and direct! She is also super caring! I would definitely recommend taking her! She is the best!
This class is entirely exams and discussion posts. The lectures are all video lectures and associated PowerPoints. Fortunately, Professor Depalo-Gould is animated and entertaining in her lectures, so they're not necessarily boring even if you aren't interested in government. I do feel I learned a lot in the course while being able to get an easy A.
Great instructor for this course. If you pay close attention to the lectures, and print the corresponding powerpoint, you will ace the tests. the course gradable material consists of: 5 discussion posts, and 3-50 question exams. Not an "easy" A, but she makes it extremely possible if you do the work and meet her halfway.
I would avoid at all costs. A nice lady, but this class was terrible. So much work during a pandemic, and the grading was so weird because the TA graded some things and it was always so harsh and tough, verses the professors grading?. I would never take again, the work was so intensive and so stupid. absolutely horrible, I hated it. Wouldn't do it.
KDG is diligent and well-versed. She's one of the brightest stars in her field. She really knows what she is talking about, and the assignments reflect that. If you put in the work, you will do well.
Very sweet lady, she knows what shes talking about and is very passionate about her job as a professor and politics, may I add.. too passionate to the point where it becomes overwhelming for us as students. It has been very hard to navigate this class with the amount of research you have to put into everything. I would not take this class again
Honestly I would never take this class again. Yes shes a sweet lady but I didnt take this class because shes nice I took it because I had to and I thought it was interesting. Her TA grades assignments super harshly, like girly I signed up for this class so YOU can grade my assignments not the TA. So much busy work and for what. Never taking her.
I would not take this class again. She's sweet, but that's not why I took this class. There's way too much research required for this class and it just becomes overwhelming. She doesn't give clear expectations for assignments and it's hard to know what she's grading us on.
Professor Depalo definitely knows what she's talking about but in my opinion, she throws so much information at you during her lectures it's hard to keep up, especially since I took her online because of COVID-19. She is a tough grader and takes off points for any minor detail in discussions and essays so be prepared.
Kind & passionate. Politics on Film is a great class and Prof. Depalo-Gould teaches it well. Easy if you show up (attendance is 20% of the grade), and 4 papers on the films you watch. She gives rubrics for the papers but IMO the grading criteria could've been clearer. Her short lectures are good and teach the historical significance of the films.
Good class, make sure to pace yourself
Please do not take this professor if you don't want to ruin your GPA. She gives three exams and no matter how much you study you can't never get a good grade. We are all getting 57, 70, 80. If you email her she is very rude and wont give the option from extra credit.
Great course, it was very interesting learning about all of the political films we watched. Only 4 papers throughout the course and she gives things you need to mention in your papers. Attendance is 20% of your grade so you can't miss class. She's very passionate about the course material and you are able to tell. Very nice+accessible out of class!
This was my second time taking her and she was great. The course is only graded by 3 exams and a final research presentation but as long as you attend class and understand the material you should be fine. She doesn't grade the tests very harshly, I was a little intimidated by the few grades but she is very understanding.
Dr. Depalo was my favorite professor. The grade is based on 3 exams, but she tells you exactly what she is asking on the test and what you need to know. I recommend going to all of the lectures, you'll guarantee an A that way. There's one research project you'll need to do as well. This class was interesting, & I recommend it if you're passionate.
This class consisted of 5 discussion boards, 1 short essay, and 3 exams via Honorlock (50 questions). It was a easy class. The exams are open note and textbook. She does provide powerpoints and recorded lectures for each chapter. My best recommendation is having the textbook with you because some test questions aren't mentioned in the powerpoints.
This class was such a breeze. 5 discussions, 3 exams, all open book, timed, with honorlock. Make sure u watch the lectures and take notes. I would recommend getting the book to use during the exams because also sometimes there's stuff on the test that she didn't say in the lecture. Great class, easy A if you put in some work. Not bad at all. *6 wks
Class was great. I had to retake this class because freshman year I had an awful professor, but this time it was a lot better with Professor Depalo-Gould. The assignments were manageable, well-paced, and had clear grading criteria. Exams are open book and the online lectures were easy to follow along with.
This class is mostly exams and discussion posts, but the prof's engaging lectures make it quite manageable. Using the textbook and powerpoints, along with tools like unstuck ai, helped me ace the tests and get a great grade.
Dr. Depalo-Gould is one of FIU's top Political Science professors. POS3258 was my third course with her, and it was straightforward: watch the movie in class and discuss it afterward. We wrote four reaction papers for every three films, but the rubric was clear and made them manageable. She's an outstanding instructor.
I went into this class thinking it was going to be bad due to the other ratings but it was very easy. She'll work with you and is very knowledgeable. I transferred from a public ivy and had more work in a discussion course then in this class so i don't understand the other ratings of having too much research or assignments. 100% would take again.
This professor is great at what she does, she can teach the topic extremely well and definitely knows what she is talking about. My only issue with the class are the "assignments". We have 3 exams, and a research project. If you do bad on one, you're cooked. Read the textbook and take notes, you also have to attend class to access the power points!
