This professor is awesome! 11/10 would take a class with her again. With this being her first year at Texas A&M University at Galveston, she is already better than some of the professors I have had here. Homework heavy but if you keep on top of it, it's not overwhelming. No classwork, just class discussions. If you can, take her class!
Shes really nice, and easy to get along with. The class is super lecture heavy, and youll do a lot of writing and reading in her class. Its an easy class if you pay attention, and the tests are pretty straightforward.
Dr. Falvo is very enthusiastic about history and it shows in her lectures. Her lectures are interesting and they actually make me want to go to class. Just be sure you do the assigned readings, study for the test, and COME TO CLASS. Attendance is necessary!
good teacher, do most reading reflections early for flexible hw opportunities. suggest reading powerpoints before class. just listen in class and you will do good
Professor Falvo offers a really entertaining approach towards history no matter if it is a boring time period or not. She is always lively and is great at helping if you ask questions and seek her out. We're opposites on the political spectrum but she is not of one those professors who goes crazy if your views are not aligned.
Professor Falvo's history class was certainly different to others, a bit more work than you'd expect from a history course, but nothing out of the ordinary for a college course. Plenty of reading and class participation, but it makes the lecture time flow better and be more interesting. She is also takes relevant joking and comments pretty well.
Very kind and wonderful professor ever met
Prof. Falvo gives interesting and entertaining lectures. Class is never boring. She lets you complete all the reading reflections on your own schedule, allowing students to do work weekly or work ahead or wait to till last minute. Readings are required for each class. If you keep up with the readings and reflections you will get an A.
This is my second time taking Professor Falvo & I would do it again. She grades fair & gives very entertaining lectures & she provides a study guide for the test which is extremely helpful. She also allows you to be flexible with your reading reflections. Just stay on top of it, show up to class, and use the study guides!
She is a really good professor. Really funny and she made learning fun!
Dr Falvo was amazing!! Amazing and engaging lectures, too. The class had a lot of work but if you allot time for the class, you will succeed. 10/10 would recommend!!
I absolutely love Dr. Falvo's class. I have always hated history but she made it interesting to dive in to. You focus on how history has shaped our society today instead of just focusing on wars like every other class. Social issues are also a big topic. She is hilarious, response quickly, and actually cares about her students.
lots of small work over each week. reading reflections are an easy A,
Great teacher, loved being in her class. Lectures were very interesting and she was able to hold my attention. I would highly recommend taking this class.
Dr. Falvo is a great Prof. She has a lot of assignments but the course has a lot of built-in flexibility. There are two major papers but this semester she gives the option of which one you want to write. Great class, make sure you keep caught up on your assignments!
Overall, she makes you work hard for your grade. There are multiple assignments each week which can be good if you want to boost your grade and bad if you don't do them. Make sure to do reading reflections as soon as you can and try to remain consistent with your assignments. Papers aren't too difficult but as always make sure to credit your source
Very passionate about history and works hard to make sure you stay interested and learn.
This class was one of the hardest class I had all semester. Not to mention I had Math, Chemistry, and ENGR. Dr. Falvo requires a lot of things that you have to do weekly so get ready. The one good thing in this class is that there isn't a final exam.
she is a terrible person and a horrible teacher. She thinks she is making class fun but its a waste of time and no one is interested in the material. there is so many assignments you will want to die.
Dr. Falvo does give out little assignments every week for the entire semester, but if you manage your time they really are not bad. Just make sure to do the reading reflections and use power points for quizzes they have all the answers. There are also no finals just 1 paper that is mandatory.
She is a very interesting professor to listen to and very high energy. There is a lot of little things due throughout the semester so be prepared to stay on top of it. No tests, but a lot of writing for her class. Do not procrastinate on the Reading Reflections you get the whole semester to do a set amount.
I took class asynchronously, so attendance was not mandatory. However when it was in-person, it was still not mandatory, but you would have an extra assignment to do if you did not show up.
She will give a lot of little things every week but they are all easy to manage as long as you make the time for them. No final just weekly quizzes that are very straight forward and the slides have everything you need. Do the reading reflections as soon as you can and everything will fall smoothly. Dr. Falvo is very passionate and accessible
Dr.F is an amazing professor in a sea of bad ones. Definitely take Dr.F if you want to learn history, do not take her if you want to sleep through the semester and get an easy A. It is not hard to get an A but you will work for it. Dr.F cares so much about students and she has the best lectures and makes even history interesting. Lots of homework.
Professor Falvo gets a bad rap. She does assign many smaller assignments instead of larger ones, quizzes instead of exams. The assignments are overwhelming at first but once you figure out how to do them and a good schedule it is pretty good. You will get a grade based on what you put into this class. The more effort you put in, the better grade.
Professor Falvo orients her class in a strange way. Losing points on an assignment will bring your grade down twice as much as gaining them would bring it up. Reading Reflections are the most important grades, and quizzes are big too. It's honestly not that hard a class, she just makes it more difficult because she can. Win some, lose some.
Professor Falvo really makes history fun to learn. I personally hate history, but I have never understood it at such a deep level. This class definitely requires effort. It is an easy A if you put in the work. Plus there is No final exam which is awesome. however there is lots of papers however they are so manageable to finish. Best prof!!
Way to much work for a 3 hour class, I put the most effort into this class and its one of my lowest grades. She has good topics and you learn good stuff but to many things to do for a simple history class.
No tests, lectures are pretty interesting and quizzes are open notes. Really good teacher but it's honestly closer to a writing class about history than a history class. You don't have to learn any history to get an A so long as you can read and analyze a document.
The professor is nice and gives good feedback, but the course has too much work for a 3 hours credit
This class has no tests, but instead has weekly quizzes. One major assignment she gives is a 6-8 page paper that you can either do in the middle or end of the semester. She gives clear and helpful feedback on the papers rough draft so you can easily get a good grade on the paper. Overall class was easy with it being online and I would take again.
The workload is a lot for this course, but it is manageable. Be ready to read and write a lot during this semester. No in-class quizzes, they were taken online. The final exam grade is a research paper. She gives you two attempts and takes the highest grade. If you need history credits take it with her, she is the best professor on campus.
Come to class, do the readings, easy quizzes, do the perusalls and you should have an easy A in the class. Start the midterm or final paper a few weeks in advance.
There is a lot of work including writing reading relfections, annotating historical documents and quizzes. These are all done weekly. If you are able to put minimal effort into these and show up to class, you will get an A. If you do not show up to class you have to make up the attendance with discussion posts. They are not hard to do but avoidable
Doctor Falvo is one of the best professors on this campus and deserves far more credt for what she is do. She is an amazing teacher but sometimes rambles about soe topics shes passionate about. The workload is a lot but it isn't hard at all if you look back at the notes and powerpoints she provides you. Just make sure you do your paper right!
Lots of work, but as long as you do the work it's an easy A.
writing inensive
In Professor Falvo's course, students can pass if they do all the work that is required of them. It is unique in the way you can do the work from home and complete discussion boards for attendence instead of checking in to class. The presentations incorporate slang and exciting details to keep them engaged.
She is cool, she always has good energy.
Dr. Falvo is one of the most personable professors i've had. Her History 105 class is definitely a lot of work, but is absolutely doable. The weekly assignments are very structured, so you always know what is expected of you each week. She makes class interactive and fun! I would absolutely take another class with her.
The Reading Reflections personally are almost impossible for me to do since they require focus for long periods of time, and I struggle with that the most. Also, the Papers/Outlines are stressful and intimidating. They are like Reading Reflections but much worse for me. Other than that she makes learning History fun and interesting to learn for me.
Pretty good! Lots of assignments but they are pretty easy and well organized, would take for a History credit in Galveston. No tests, just weekly quizzes that you can do on your own time.
Great Teacher.
The class itself wasn't that bad, as long as you do your work and read carefully. She is a very easy going person, but will get tougher when needed. The only slight problem for future students who have a preferred name, you will have to remind her to use it rather than your birth-name.
She was overall amazing! Typically I'm not too fond of history courses, but she made them interesting and engaging. I will say the coursework load is kind of heavy, though manageable if you don't procrastinate and plan times to do your assignments. I highly suggest taking the course if you need history credit.
She is the best history teacher I have had. She gives out a lot of homework, but if you've got great time management, you should be able to get an easy A. Instead of finals, you have to write a paper. The paper won't be bad, because Dr. Falvo, gives great feedback on your paper plan. You should take her class, you won't regret it.
We never went over any wars in class and focused on civil justice issues. So if you want to learn about more interesting things don't take this class.
This teacher is awesome. She gives really good lectures with passion. She always has great energy and good vibes. Really laid-back teacher but if you do not do your work, she will get on your ass. There are many readings but as long as you do what is assigned each week you will pass.
Amazing organization, very personable, and understanding of extenuating circumstances. I would highly recommend her classes, anything she teaches is made interesting. She'll definitely get in a good few laughs as a reprieve of the darker subjects. Just make sure to keep up with assignments and try not to get overwhelmed by everything she provides.
-Reading reflections frequent (but short) -Lecture heavy (PowerPoints provided weekly) -Gives good feedback in class (interacts with students)
Really nice professor. She is great with providing feedback and allows discussion of different ideas in lecture.
Good professor. I would definitely recommend her for Hist105.
Dr. Falvo Is a very good teacher, if you show up to class and do your homework on time you can be practically finished with the class by the midterm point. Pay attention and you will easily pass.
I loved this course Dr. Falvo made it enjoyable and made me want to show up to class every day and I really took a lot away not using the textbook in any way.
Dr. Falvo is a great teacher overall, I will recommend to at least give a lot of effort on one of the papers. Also pay attention to how many reading reflections you have done in order to survive and not get behind.
You can attend and do I clicker or skip classes and do a discussion post to get the grade for attendance. Her personality is great and she is very friendly. Finally, be prepared to do many easy assignments
Gives feedback on many assignments which is really helpful. Required readings are brought into the lectures to tie everything together. Lectures and course work are well organized and easy to find. The professor has made History easy to learn and interesting.
Good Teacher, excited to teach and brings that excitement to the students. Grades the essay fairly, but still gives grades accordingly to effort and results
Dr. Favlo is a teacher who actually makes you engage with the class. She focuses more on the social impact history has had on our society and how it shapes our present. I like that this class focuses more on these socio-cultural phenomena rather than solid facts like wars and dates directly.
Although I do not agree with everything she teaches, she is a good teacher and organized class well.
good teacher with great feedback and lot of support and organized
Dr. Falvo is an amazing teacher. She always kept us engaged. The only criticism I have with the class is that I often felt that her opinion was incorporated into the lecture. She's a very upbeat person and keeps the class engaged, one of my favorite classes I've ever had.
Professor Falvo is constantly learning how to improve her teaching skills, but I also struggled with the instructions over Reading Reflections because it wasn't clear about what was supposed to be in the paragraphs and I got more confused because I had to wait a couple of weeks to know what was wrong with my Reading reflections.
She gives a lot of chances to do your work. Gives 2 essays throughout the course, only have to do one. Lot of options for reading reflection assignments, only have to do 10.
This class is very interesting, and I would recommend it. Dr. Falvo cares about the content and the classes are rarely boring. Be ready to work when taking this class. There is a lot of homework, but you are given a good amount of time to complete it. Procrastination is your enemy, here.
Dr. Falvo makes learning history super engaging and cares for her students. There is lots of homework but there's many ways to make up for some homeworks. She gives good feedback on the first paper and takes the time to individually grade them so make sure you do the first paper.
Falvo is awesome. She's super chill and likes to make sure her students are doing good. She often does wellness checks. As long as you are good at managing time then you will get an A.
You have to do a 2-page essay at least once a week and sometimes twice. The perusalls are pretty pointless, but they are mandatory and you don't have to write much to get a good grade. Honestly, just a ton of work she asks of you, but fake it till you make it. I didn't read at all and got a B. Falvo is a f*cking animal.
Dr. Falvo is a great teacher. She will give you Every opportunity to do well in her class. She only asks for a limited number of reading assignments and gives you more options then you need. Essentially, all you need to do for a solid grade is just do your readings, they don't take that long and can help during class. Also a great sense of humor :)
Falvo's Texas History Course was interesting, but I did not understand why we always talked about slavery in every topic we discussed in class. It seemed like she only pointed out what made Texas different from other states and tried to make it seem somehow bad instead of being proud of our state. We had to read "forget the Alamo" as well.
Dr. Falvo is an excellent professor. She gives plenty of opportunity to do well, and gives you plenty of resources and options for the reading assignments. As long as you pay attention to the lectures and do the readings you should do fine. For an online class the lectures were interesting and she teaches the material very well.
She is a solid teacher, I took it over the summer of 22, and it was a breakneck pace and intense class; doing the readings besides the required readings wasn't necessary, but doing all the assignments took a lot of time; I recommend playing videos on 1.5 x speed with subtitles, saves time. Overall very good summer course.
This class has quite a bit of work and while Falvo is a really cool professor I do not think she realizes how much homework and mandatory readings she assigns. This class was great overall but made me lose some of my love for history.
Just don't.
This professor will make the learning part of the course enjoyable when you are tired and hungry.
As long as you do the reading reflections and the Perusalls you will do great. The lectures are interesting and help when taking the quiz. Everything from lecture can be found on Canvas.
At first I hated this class because of the work however I just wasn't doing it. the work was easy if you do it and the readings are interesting. I like how the attendance works but I don't like iclicker.
Dr. Falvo is a great professor. Really enjoys what she teaches and makes the class ten times better. Just lots of reading so have fun
Beware Falvo will cold call you if you nap or seem off task and you will want to die, so be ready to make an answer up on the fly or just submit to the poor situation you have wrought.
Falvo is great, you have to take a quiz and assignments every week but they're open notes and extremely doable. Take her! if you do the work you will get a good grade!
Falvo is one of the best history teachers i've ever had. If you do your work and engage in class, this will be an easy A but also an incredibly rewarding semester.
All in all, Falvo is a 10/10 teacher, she has amazing attention to detail and a real passion for her work. There is a lot of work in the class, but it's all warranted. However, if you have an issue with accountability, then professor Falvo will bring the wrath of God. if you fail to show up or do work, then you screwed.
Dr. Falvo is a very interesting individual and a really great professor that is passionate about what she teaches. There are no notes in class with most of the information found in her PowerPoints she posts and teaches from. Her directions and assignments are very clear and its kind of hard to fail this class with the safety nets and assignments.
You do more writing than English and Writing classes. She likes to talk about the issues of racism a lot which is okay, but almost every week the topics continue to revolve around it. Her grading is nice with lots of second changes, but it seems she rather fail many on their essays, with the averages being below 50%.
Don't let the rating fool you, half these ratings are clearly given out by fake accounts to make her look good. Her essay grading is harsh, along with constant readings and homework that are basically short essays every week, per assignment. Gives lots of chances, but seems there could be a potential bias.
she is a very nice teacher but gives out 5 assignments every week, two of which are page and a half reflections. her essay grading is very tough but out of the two offered in the semester, only one grade is kept. I wasn't a fan of her in particular because she wasn't super willing to work with me after I joined the class late. All in all not bad.
This class was rough. There was no information on how to use perusall and it was hard to figure out why i kept getting low grades. There was also homework during thanksgiving break and the reading days. Was only willing to extend the deadlines after SEVERAL students would email and ask about why we would have homework during breaks. Dont recommend
Love Dr. Falvo! She gives tons of writing assignments, but there are no tests and the lectures are fun and engaging. She's very understanding and rewards those who show up.
DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS. She makes you write an extra 1700 words a week for attendance. The in person class doesn't have to do this. Her lectures always bring in feminism or racism no matter the topic. It's easy to get good grades, but there is so much unnecessary writing, more than most English classes.
I have taken 2 courses with Falvo and overall enjoyed each one. There is A LOT of required reading, that can get pretty overwhelming on top of course work for other classes. Ignore freshman posts about her 'unfair' grading. I have never had a prof so willing to listen and help students in my entire college career if you just go to office hours.
Dr. Falvo was a great professor with amazing lectures! Her course is difficult and does require a lot of effort, but it is rewarding. There are NO EXAMS, just weekly assignments and a big research paper for the final. Get ready to read, like a lot.
Dr. Falvo is fantastic! Love her!!
Dr. Falvo is amazing! She is funny and uses humor in her teaching. If you are having difficulties she is very open to working with you but do not make the mistake of playing her. She is a smart cookie.
She is an amazing professor. I took her online course and the only part that was difficult was the attendance checks because it was a discussion post. There were no tests, only weekly quizzes that were open notes. The final for the class is a research paper, but it isn't difficult at all.
I loved the "many small assignments" aspect of the course. Where there is a lot of opportunities for us. Thank you!
GO TO CLASS. I should have made an A in this class but forgot attendence was mandatory. Regardless, Dr. Falvo presents a very biased view of history and covers unnecessary topics for an introductory course of history. This course seemed less like an education of the events of the founding of the US and more of a politcal indoctrination for students
She clearly outlines what is required to do well in her class in the syllabus, as long as you're able to plan out your work and finish your assignments in time, you won't have much work to do for most of the semester.
Took this online during spring semester. Honestly a really easy class, she is not a harsh grader. As long as you read the material and give the homework an honest effort, this class is fairly easy. There is a lot of writing, just be coherent in your thoughts and maybe go to the writing lab as most of your grade is based off of writing.
Falvo at first appears to be a genuinely kind and passionate professor who receives too much hate, but then further in the semester, you realize it's all justified. Content is always changing last minute or later screwing up any rhythm. Large writing assignments are listed in the syllabus but aren't discussed until a week before the deadline. Pain!
If you do not like to read 20+ pages every week do not take this class. It is really reading and writing based. There are no lecture quizzes but there is A LOT of writing that by the end of the semester I was so burned out. Overall she is a good teacher she's very lenient and will accommodate due dates as needed.
Her grading system is out of whack. For an OPTIONAL assignment she put in a zero for anyone who did not complete it and as a result, most of the class is failing.
Dr. Falvo does not follow the syllabus completely and has deviated from it multiple times throughout the semester. For being an AMERICAN HISTORY class, there was no discussion past 1900, skipping both world wars, the cold war, the Vietnam war, the Korean war, and many other conflicts that have defined what the United States is in today's terms.
This class was good, and I would take it again, two assignments are due each week, which I thought was great because it helped my grade. I liked how there were no tests.
Falvo knows what she is talking about and knows how to relay the information well. That being said, I have never had a professor who does not care about their students the way she does. She is disrespectful and just plain rude. If you want feedback on what you did wrong good luck! I will never take her again.
Dr. Falvo always had some of the most informative lectures about the areas of American history that she chose to discuss. But skipped over many key American events. She was always "disappointed" in the class and made it known weekly by lengthy email which displayed behavior that was discourteous. No care was given to the student at all.
Dr. Falvo is the professor that acts like she cares and is genuinely funny, but not a good person. The grading is rough and even if filled by the rubric, points deducted for no given reason. She acts like we are the problem, weekly announcements that sum to her being disappointed in us. I'll say that lectures are enjoyable and fun. Don't recommend.
Professor Falvo's class is rigorous but rewarding. With no tests and lots of writing, it requires effort, but she's understanding and engaging. unstuck AI was a great study aid.
Lecture-heavy with intense readings. Exams cover everything with zero guidance, no study materials and unclear formats. Review sessions aren't helpful, and you're left to figure it out alone. If you value your time and sanity, avoid this class at all costs.
She never finishes her PowerPoints and always keeps us after almost every class. Always assigns weakly readings of 40+ pages and you have to annotate it on Perusall, which is auto-graded, so you need to write paragraphs or you wont get full credit. Exams are impossible and crazy long. Multiple choice, short answer, long answer, and essay questions.
If you're looking into becoming a history major, she would be a good teacher for you; however, I was not. Her major assignments are writing based and she grades them very harshly dependent on research, formatting, and content. Be very cautious of this, if you do not like writing do not take her class. Besides this though, she does an amazing job.
If you are a History major, Dr. Falvo is a great, strict teacher. If not, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. She assigns dense weekly readings (60-80 pg), w annotations/quiz. Her exams are absolutely horrible. She splits them each exam into 4 parts, 25 very hard mcq, 10 50word short responses, 5 200 word, 2 400 word. Lockdown, watches recording, harsh grader.
Dr. Falvo likes to make student's lives as difficult as possible. She assigns a lot of readings and expects you to write 2000+ word reflections about them. She is a very tough grader and takes off points for the smallest things. She always sends out emails talking about how she is disappointed in her class. Do NOT take her.
Worst professor ever. She expects you to do a lot of reading and write a lot as well. She also is a very tough grader. She is also extremely biased about the topics covered in class. She is unbearable.
It is very obvious that a lot of the ratings are faked. Her class is not good at all. Her lectures are always about racism and sexism.
I took Dr. Falvo's HIST 105 last summer and am about to take 106 this Summer 2025. She is a tough grader and assigns a lot of reading and lots of essays. However, I've learned so much from her. She's very online savvy and the lectures are never boring!
DO NOT TAKE HER. WORST PROFESSOR OF ALL TIME
Dr. Falvo is like an average college professor. There are no tests for this specific course, but rather heavy writing assignments. Lots of reading and quizzes as well. I would not recommend taking her for this specific course unless you are a very good writer of essays and reading analysis. She's not a bad professor as others say just strict.
Unlike Hist105, this is a course I'd recommend you take with her. The homework assignments are much easier, and while it is test-heavy, if you do well enough on the first two tests then you won't have to take the final exam. I wouldn't say it's a GPA booster but it's not difficult to get an A if you study hard enough. strict but not unreasonable.
NOT WORTH IT!!! DONT TAKE IT!!!!
JUST TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!! The writing assignments are awful and the lectures were boring. This professor was very obviously biased and mostly just rants about how disappointing the class is. took this with a friend and we both had a difficult experience. Do yourself a favor and do not take this course with professor.
SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND DONT!!! Every thing with the exception of like one thing is pass fail and to pass the assignments you have to be perfect to the T. If you miss one little detail its a fail. And there's a lot of reading that you have to do reflections on and write lengthy responses for a good grade.
This class is a lot of work I took it for a credit and it was a lot more work than I expected. She gave a lot of homework with weekly readings with a semester long research project. The research project there are word count requirements for all of them that are huge and all of her assignments are pass fail and she is very particular. LOT OF WORK
I took her course online, and it wasn't that bad. There are a lot of assignments and it was pretty easy, but she's a really tough grader and whether your answers are correct just depends on if she likes what you write. My one big issue with her is I emailed her a simple question, and she responded very rudely and was not helpful.
If you want a professor who takes zero accountability for last minute changes, you'd love her. Heck, she doesn't even give out proper grade updates for the midterm. It's fantastic. If you want mandatory attendance and love someone who gives you zero flexibility, this IS the class for you. Want someone who isn't nice in the slightest? Here you go.
holy superiority complex. that's pretty much enough to describe her personality. its easy to get an A if you just show up. has a very strict iclicker policy. even coming late by 1 minute can mess up ur grade cuz the notes for that day won't count. she is certainly far from a chill proffessor - felt like highschool all over again.
