Kathryn is nice and is very flexible with hw and allowing you to turn them in almost anyway including email if you will not be there. That being said her lectures are virtually useless. She gives practice midterms but does not provide solutions so if you don't understand it you have no good way of teaching yourself. She is also easily distracted.
Dr. Hadley uses diverse tools while teaching from demos to videos which fit my style of learning. She would sometimes drop hints in class to what the midterm questions are about so go to class. Work chapter problems and check with her cause they would be similar to the midterm. Go to her office hours! she is down to help you if you're struggling.
Hybrid class meaning majority of it was taken online. Her lectures were boring and do not address the homework, or labs that must be done online. Every week there is a homework and lab due at the end of the week along with a journal you must update throughout the term. 2 midterms and 1 final worth big chunks of your grade. Points for attendance.
Easily distracted. Lectures consist of 45 minutes going through 1 problem. Will have to retake class with different teacher because she failed to teach the class.
Absolutely the worst professor I've had at OSU. She does not teach, she wastes class time talking about useless items or if she does a problem she never gets the right solution. She does not care about the success of her students.
Physics is never going to be a good class but Kathryn makes her tests very doable and she cares a lot about students.
She's really invested in helping students understand. Homeworks (untimed canvas quizzes) don't show you correct answers after you miss them. Instead you explain your thinking on why you answered what you did on the discussion board, and the class or prof will help you figure it out. It worked really well for me. 2 midterms and a final.
Professor Hadley seemed absent minded and consistently confused herself while demonstrating solutions. Attendance is mandatory but virtually useless and tests are much harder than the other class material (homework, labs, etc). Our average on the final was 48% to give you an idea of how prepared people were.
Kathryn Hadley is quite the character. She is incredibly nice and caring for her students, and understands all situations of her students. That being said, she expects you teach most of the course to yourself and her lectures are styled as if you already know the material (read the textbook or you WILL fail!!!!). Read the calendar and read ahead.
Test material is all over the board. No study guide, best input youll get is to study it all to include huge textbook chapters, lectures, and labs. This class is NOT worth your time. 2 thumbs down.
literally a third of my homework is for her class, and it takes up well over half the amount of time I spend on homework overall.
She is extremely boring during lectures and makes mistakes when doing example problems. Her tests are all symbolic meaning NO NUMBERS and you are supposed to solve with all symbols. PH211 material is easy but having her for the next classes would be extremely tough
Hadley's exams are doable compared to Coffin. Her lectures are pointless to attend and if you have the app on your phone you can get participation points from anywhere. If you read the textbook and have a good recitation TA you will be fine. She does not allow alternative testing (to include the death of a close family member!).
Has one question, one attempt pre-lecture questions. They can cover material that isn't covered in the next immediate lecture. Grade percentage wise, they're worth 1% less than the online and written homework combined and half as much as a midterm. She does not use slides, instead scrolls through her website. Most of lecture is on practice problems
As someone who knew all the material beforehand, she is a tough teacher. Teaches like you already know the subject, and gives you a basic rundown of each concept. The free response on the tests are like the online hw questions. She does drop hints on what to study for tests and does give EC. If I were completely new, this class would be very hard.
Doesnt care how the overall class is doing, only cares about blowing through the material.
I think if you're going to choose a physics professor at OSU, she's the best choice. If you know how to learn the material yourself--which you should read the book--Hadley is a great option.
Rating her 5 because she doesn't deserve such a low rating. Dr. Hadley teaches well, and designs good tests. Mastering Physics hw was a little frustrating at times, but I got used to it. Put in the work, don't google the homework problems until you've tried them. That's how you get a good grade in this class.
Fits the stereotype of crazy physics professor. I've seen her beg for more people to ask her questions, she wants to help us all! PHYS 21X is a tough series regardless, so I cant fault her for difficulty of the class. Do the homework and you'll survive. Highly recommend the optional recitation course (PH 222)!
For Ecampus students, there will be two midterms and a final which all have to be proctored, meaning I had to pay to be video recorded by a company while taking my exams. The material was interesting to me, but I still had to read the textbook and lecture notes a couple times to complete the homework assignments. Weekly discussions are easy points.
She is accessible by email and responds quickly, instructions on assignments are never clear and I have had to correct her on multiple things throughout the semester. A lot of reading goes into this class, and it difficult for someone who has never taken a physics class before so get ready.
Lectures go quickly through material. But in office hours she is very helpful and patient Test heavy, about 60%. That's typical but grade boundaries were 5% lower than usual. No late work, but she drops multiple low scores. Hadley is kind, and she DOES want you to do well. I might get a D, for a 2nd time, but it WILL NOT be because of Dr. Hadley.
I took her 212/3 classes and did decently well on the midterms. Homeworks were annoying. Class averages on midterms were around 80s. There was in class participation. However, the hardest part about her classes was the final. While the midterm averages were a 80, the final averages were about a 50. Biggest takeaway was that her finals are difficult
This class was needlessly tiring and difficult. The title of the class was "Galaxies, Cosmology, and Life" and it ended up being almost entirely trivial physics facts with complicated mathematics intertwined. The homework was frequent and exhausting. We got no real introduction to the topics before being thrown into the complexities of them.
Hadley was great! She was flexible and cared about us. She went 110% to give us extra videos and all to help understand physics. I would recommend her hi a heartbeat.
Hadley is cool. I'd take her again in a heartbeat. She knows how to teach in a way that is interesting and makes sense. Her tests reflect what she taught us pretty well.
The thing I like about Hadley is the way she can explain things in a way that makes sense. She cares if we learn. Physics is tough but she makes class fun and interesting and doable.
She's one of the good ones. I just finished PH212 and I feel really good about it. I'm very glad she is teaching 213 next. I'll definitely be there.
Hadley grew a lot on me. I love how she keeps on looking for ways to improve the class and is always there to provide support for her students. She helped me rediscover my creative side in learning and embrace the beauty of Physics. Hadley is an amazing professor and role model for students!
Ridiculous expectations. Not useful, helpful, and course did not meet description. Professor provided zero feedback, no lecture, unavailable for help.
At first, it seems like she expects so much out of you but if you actually start putting in the work and actually tried, her expectation are actually a guide on how to succeed in class. Throughout my time at OSU, no class ever gave me so much reasons to miss a class especially with one like Physics that is dreaded by many.
She's kind and actually quirky, goes through problems step by step in class while having us attempt them beforehand, and gives extra credit frequently. She is one of the best physics professors to have for such a difficult course!
I took Dr. Hadley for the whole physics sequence and got to really like her. She has a great sense of humor and makes a tough subject really fun and interesting. She respects us and really cares. She is good at explaining and works out a lot of problems.
Dr. Hadley is maybe my all time favorite professor. She is straight with us and just talks to us like real people. She is great at physics and loves teaching. She is fun and explains even complicated stuff in a way that is understandable. Somehow she got us feeling connected even in an online class, like we were all in it together.
I liker her a lot. She had office hours every day and was really good about helping me learn. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
What I liked best about Dr. Hadley is that she listened to us. She adapted her teaching style to help us learn better. She really cares about us and I would recommend her to anyone.
I am an engineering major and was a bit afraid of physics. Dr. Hadley made it fun and totally doable. I really get it now and I think she is great. The best thing about her is that she listens to us and she really cares.
Expects nothing but excellence yet forgot how to reverse a rate of change and a student had to help remind her. Absolutely rigid, absolutely unforgiving. Do not skip class--you will lose points. Always check CANVAS every two hours. Be ready for class 30 minutes before it starts. Don't skip reading the book--you will lose points. Study ALL examples.
I don't normally write reviews but this had to be said, she gives way too many assignments and dives right into the material without any reviews for the first part. On top of it she doesn't go over the problems as well she just simply shows you what equations to use but never explains further. I don't recommend her class at all, worst teacher.
Goes over a topic for two weeks giving example problems and equations to use to solve them just for her to give completely unrelated questions on the exams that are unsolvable with the material we were taught. Never take her class if you care about doing well in school.
Terrible. The topics covered did not reflect tests at all and the tests weighed heavily. Lots of unnecessary assignments. The worst part is she threatened to fail me because my computer wouldn't load proctorio. That's not my fault at all. When I asked questions she made me feel stupid for asking
She's a friendly and approachable teacher. She writes tests that are completely irrelevant to the material we discuss in class. She uses Proctorio for asynchronous makeup work (-10 points for that in my book) She'll schedule lectures during your other class times. If you can't make lecture you write 600 words a week to get credit. Unacceptable.
if you are unable to attend lecture you have to write 600 words per week. 4 participation assignments per week on top of already heavy workload. lab reports are group projects and are given a group grade. no checks to ensure students do equal amount of work on labs. tests include problems harder than any included in lecture or hw.
Dr Hadley is a great prof. Obviously a few people have decided to trash her. They forgot to mention that she gave us hefty extra credit assignments for our quizzes. She doesn't have midterms, her quizzes are almost the same as problems we go over in class. She makes videos for extra help. She cares about us and works hard to help us understand.
Hadley is great, I will take her classes again. She goes out of her way to help us learn. She teaches in Zoom lectures and posts the videos for people who can't be there. Every participation and quiz has an online version so you can take either. Her quizzes are extremely fair. She makes physics understandable and doable.
I thought Dr. Hadley was awesome. She was very fair and put a lot of effort into teaching us physics. She made extra videos for us. She held Zoom sessions if we wanted to come and posted the videos if we could not make it. Her quizzes were a lot like problems we did in class and she gave extra credit with a lot of feedback. She really cared.
Hadley is great. I loved this class. She understands that we are learning and gives extra credit and drops the lowest quiz score. I highly recommend her to my friends and any future engineers out there.
This class was hard for me. My personal issues gave me a rough start. Dr Hadley lets you drop a quiz and helped me get solid. She met with me after class and talked. She really cared. Her extra credit saved my grade.
This was my favorite class ever! I loved learning about the solar system and Dr Hadley made it fun. Her web pages are awesome. Her tests are like the homework and you can use a note sheet so if you try, you can do great in this class.
Dr Hadley is great. She cares so much about helping us learn. Physics was not easy for me but she laid it out so clearly I got it. Her web pages are very helpful and her extra videos are awesome. She gives extra credit on the quizzes and it helped me to understand and really helped my grade. I would take Hadley again in a heartbeat.
Dr Hadley is one of the best profs I have ever had. She has a great teaching style. I did the homework and the practice problems and I found the test problems to be very doable. Just a step different than what we had seen. If someone thought they were very different, my guess is they did not try to understand. I highly recommend her.
I thought taking physics online would be hard, but Dr. Hadley was so helpful that I enjoyed it. She really does care. She made a Doodle poll to schedule class when most people could attend in Zoom. She made every assignment accessible outside of class hours for us, even the quizzes. She was very accessible and gave us support. I will take her 212.
Dr Hadley cares. Her lectures were great and she helped me after class. She goes the extra mile, making tutorial videos and also posting her lecture videos. Her tests were extremely fair. If you did the work, you got it. I would take her again, and I definitely will be in her PH 212 class.
I dreaded physics but it turned out I really liked it. Dr Hadley's lectures are great. She talks about what it all means and also works out lots of problems. Her test questions are not exactly like class, but close enough you can do well really well if you try. I surprised myself and got an A! I would take her again in an instant.
I got a slow start on this class. Luckily Dr Hadley drops a quiz and helped me get on track. She really does care. She worked with me until everything just started to click. She gave an extra credit assignment that had us go to the free online tutoring center. It helped so much I kept going. I did well in the class and will do even better in 212.
I loved this class! I especially liked being able to learn about topics of my own choosing. I know all about the solar system now and it is great! Dr Hadley's web pages are very helpful and beautifully done.
Astronomy is my new favorite class! I am a Fish and Wildlife major and really dreading the science with lab requirement. This class was incredible! I got to know the constellations at night. I even liked the labs. My favorite one was a citizen science project where we classified actual images of the surface of Mars. I absolutely recommend it.
Best class ever! I always wanted to know about the planets and this class taught me so much cool stuff. I know why they demoted Pluto. I can recognize constellations at night. I would recommend this class to everyone in a heartbeat. The tests were doable, very much like homework and you get to use a page of notes.
Worst professor I have ever taken. This class is not truly asynchronous; you're expected to meet with a TA and your lab group on zoom. She holds zoom lectures 4x a week which are "optional" but she offers participation credit if you attend and make-up asynchronous assignments which are 3x the work if you don't. Expect 10+ assignments a week.
Took this class E-Campus. Worst class I have ever taken. If you can't make the zoom sessions (which are 4x a week), make up work is required, which takes 3x as long to complete and is graded harsher. Less than 24 hours to complete most assignments. Proctorio required if you can't make the zoom exams. This class feels like it should be 6 credits.
Took this class on ecampus, and was much tougher than expected. Very tough grader, quizzes and tests have unclear or vague instructions, and even if you get the right answer, if your method was not the exact same as her, she will dock alot of points. Lectures are confusing and she skims over material regardless if people understand it fully or not.
I am in this class now and I think it is great. I like having no midterms. Breaking the material up into quizzes makes it easier. We just took a quiz and it was totally doable. The questions were just a little different from class problems. She is a very fair grader in my opinion. She respects different ways of solving. I so recommend this class.
Hadley is great! She goes out of her way to help us succeed. There is flexibility in how you take a quiz. You can do it in Zoom during class or on Proctorio. She even has a second Zoom session in the evening. She gives a practice quiz that is super helpful. She drops your lowest quiz score. We just took a quiz and I am feeling great about it.
I love this class! It is just like an in-person class but online. Zoom lectures are recorded so if I can't make it I do the async assignment with the same question and follow along in the recording. Physics was not easy for me but Hadley is great and this really clicks.
I'm in Prof Hadley's class right now and I highly recommend it. Labs are actually pretty good. We do hands-on experiments using stuff I already have. My TA is great! He worked to find a time for our half hour weekly meeting that is good for all three of us. We talk it through and turn in one lab report. I usually don't like lab but this is fun.
I love this class. There are short assignments that happen often. That gets the concepts in my brain. This is really clicking for me. The class is well taught, very similar to being in person. Dr. Hadley really relates to us and she cares. She works extra with me when I need it.
Dr. Hadley is really good at teaching physics. She talks concept and works maybe 4 problems every class. The first one is easy, then they get a little tougher each time adding some new thing. By the end of class we are doing a tough problem and I totally get it. I am doing well and can't wait to take 212 with her next term.
After each test, there would be an optional extra credit assignment to make up a ton of points that you might have missed from the test. So, even though I found the tests to be rather difficult and short on time, I was able to make up most of the points I lost with the extra credit assignments and ended with an A in the class.
I got an A too and am really happy about that. I thought the quizzes were doable but I'd forget a thing or two. The extra credit was great. I earned lots of points back and ended up understanding the problems well. I am going to take her again for 212 next term. I feel solid on it.
Enjoyable online class. Class is about stars and stellar evolution. Lots of homework between labs and discussions, but I found the content very interesting. Don't buy the book, the provided lecture website gives enough information to succeed. For a 4-credit course, very reasonable course in terms of homework and time commitment. Solid class.
Kathryn provides minimal lectures, unrelated homework, and moves through the materials faster than reasonable. There is a heavy expectancy for algebra and physical science knowledge, although no pre-requisite is given. She has provided minimal help when I reached out for clarification and has not been beneficial in helping me grasp the materials.
I love this class. The topics are super interesting and Dr. Hadley makes the class very doable for a non-scientist like me. She has lecture videos that are fun and informative. There is very little math and no calculations on tests. She lets us have a note sheet in the test and a ton of extra credit. I recommend this class highly!
I love this class. It is super interesting and Dr. Hadley makes it doable. Her lecture recordings are spot on and help so much with the homework. Her course web pages are awesome. There is very little math and no calculations in the tests. We get to make a note sheet for the tests and there is a ton of extra credit. She is super helpful and nice.
This has been one of my favorite classes so far. I was worried about taking a science class but this class is fascinating. I can't believe I understand about the universe! The coursework is manageable. Dr. Hadley gives lots of extra credit so I can get points back if I missed something on the test. She is available for help and she really cares.
The only reason I took this teacher was because she was rated so highly here due to all the extra credit she offered... She has now apparently gotten rid of any extra credit. The 10+ assignments a week aren't super hard, but they are tedious and due every day, and take lots of time. Incredibly unhelpful in class too, just do the readings or google.
I'm really happy with this class. I do the extra credit assignments to get points back on quizzes. I love being able to go to Zoom lectures and participate or have the flexibility to do the online equivalent assignments. Dr Hadley is very responsive, answering questions in class or emails in a couple of hours. I recommend this class in a heartbeat!
This class has been good to me. Physics doesn't come easy to me but Prof Hadley explains it in a way I understand. I love the extra credit opportunities. Sometimes I don't get to the Zoom lectures so I watch the videos and do the questions online for participation. It is a lot like being in a real class. It works for me. I plan to take 212 next.
I highly recommend Dr Hadley. This class works great for me. I go to the Zoom lectures when I can, they are just like being in a physical classroom. She explains well and works lots of problems with us. She posts the videos within 2 hours. If you can't make class, you watch the videos and do the participation online. Quiz extra credit is great!!!
I like that there are no midterms, just quizzes. I love the extra credit. We get to rework quiz problems to get credit back. I really like that I come away understanding how to do the problems. I will be happy to take PH 212 from Dr Hadley next term. She is really nice and cares about us.
I would like to thank Professor Hadley for single-handedly killing my love for physics, and for setting the bar so low that even the worst engineering classes looked easy in comparison.
WAY BETTER THAN PROFESSOR TUMBLIN. I wish all the physics classes at OSU were this good.
I have been very impressed by Dr. Hadley so far in my online class. She is patient, funny, and teaches very well. I wish I could take a class with her in person. Beware though, there is a lot of work! HW can be difficult and participation matters. Grade will ultimately be quiz/final heavy, but she expects you to show up and work.
Hadley is a decent choice. Her online course gives a lot of homework + the lab so it can get overwhelming. However, out of the physics professors I had to chose from, she was the best. Extra credit make-up on every quiz. Lots of online homework and a pre-quiz every day. If you do bad on a quiz it can tank your grade but the extra credit helps. 7/10
Best physics prof I have had at OSU.
Will be taking her again!
Dr. Hadley loves her work and her students, and it shows.
Dr. Hadley structures the class super well and is very responsive! Assignments are super clearly written, study guides provided for exams, tonsssss of extra credit opportunities. However.....I easily spent 5-7 hours per week working on this class. Each week has about 30 pages of dense reading, a discussion board, lab, and homework assignment.
This class is a shock to many people. Hadley has all assignments require symbolic solutions instead of using real numbers. I hated this, but by week 5 I realized how much it helped me learn the material. They used a new question bank this term for hw that had wrong answers all over it. Hadley did right by the students and made up for it.
Great professor! she made physics incredibly easy to learn, and her class was very example based. Very little reading necessary to do well in the class, she gives you every relevant formula and any necessary pieces of information in lecture. LOTS of attendance assignments, so keep up with those! She is a sweetheart
She only does practice problems over lecture and makes have to teach yourself. The labs are loosely related to the content in class and tests are very frustrating. She gives a study guide, but they arent that closely related to the test, along with the tests being very quick. YOU WILL BE RUSHED EVERY TEST TO FINISH ON TIME.
The whole Physics department at OSU is a mess. There are 50 billion assignments to complete and none of them are a walk in the park. My suggestion is to take it at LBCC. That aside Kathy is an average teacher, nothing more to say other than she is reasonable and flexible when it comes to extensions and make ups. Just beware the amount of homework.
