She new to CHM115 Labs, she did not know what she was doing, you will have to learn everything yourself. And if you have questions, better off saving it for later, When you can ask a real Professor. I asked her what a buret was, and she had to go ask another professor. She ridiculous on lab notebooks, you HAVE TO HAVE it done before class, or else.
Is your goal to kicked out of class and receive zero points? Then you've found the right professor! Wear Capri pants? Get out. Forget your safety gear? Grab your stuff. Didn't understand pre-lab and left the questions blank to get some help? LOL, no. Might as well stay home. She grades stuff super hard and won't answer any questions.
I left one prelab question blank because I didn't understand and wanted to ask for help and she kicked me out of class because it was "incomplete." I had a 300 in a 275 word count, yet she took 8 points off because she doesn't consider "the, I, so, very, etc." to be words. She's rude and doesn't know what she's talking about, overall bad teacher.
She is a good teacher. I have had her multiple times and I enjoyed taking her classes. She is a tough grader but it has taught me to become a better writer and student. If you ask for help she will help as much as she can. I would recommend her.
Horrible instructor. Not only is she extremely rude, she offers no help or further explanation of the lecture. If you go to her office hours, she'll neglect your questions while filling out job apps and playing games. Ask questions in class? Get ready for humiliation. If you don't come to class already knowing the information, you're demeaned.
While I understand that college is meant to be challenging, this course was ridiculous. Her policies were too strict and overboard. While she was very educated, I would not recommend her as a teacher.
Meloche was friendly and invested in her students. She did anything in her power to help us through O Chem. I would take her class again.
Clear lectures. Gives examples that poly to some real life situations to help understand the material. Also held study session groups on some days.
Tough grader but fair (big on rubrics) & gives good feedback plus REALLY FAST AT GRADING. Expect to have your lab book up to snuff&ready. She gives clear&relevant lectures (great review sessions included)& is really interested in the materialhelping students.(My grade dropped with the irrelevantmandatory online exit quiz).Good class though.
Absolutely loved her as a teacher! She supplies you ample resources, practice quizzes and exams, and offers multiple study sessions which all help so so so much come exam time. I'm very grateful to have had her as an instructor!
She is just great! She is always there for you to help you out with anything! Even if you are not in her class, she is still willing to help you out! I highly recommend taking her! You wont regret it :)
She is a really good teacher, her lectures are very clear and she actually did extra work to help us in our lab since our teacher there was so poor. If you work hard and study, you will do well in this in class.
Would not recommend. Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. If you can get out of this class, you will save your GPA. If you can't, good luck, prayers to you.
She is tough, but she doesn't leave any uncertainty as to what she expects. You can get an A, but be prepared to actually learn and practice the material. I thought she was a great professor.
I don't know if she's one for favoritism but she liked me as a student a lot. Compared to my other classmates, they always complained that I got better lab grades. But honestly, I put in A LOT of time and effort to really understand the material and into my lab reports and that's the real difference. Do your work, I'm sure you'll be fine!
She will help you if you show interest and effort in the class. If you aren't putting in effort, then you won't pass. If there is a content clinic or review, go to it. IT will help! If you're lazy, you will fail. Some don't like because they don't put in effort.
Meloche is the best! Is very helpful and does not get annoyed at all (especially since I ask many questions regarding the labs). She also does not get mad if anything is spilled or broken because accidents do happen.
She is a great TEACHER. She knows her stuff and teaches better than anyone I have ever had. It was a hard class, and she was not much help unless you really really really went seeking for it. She was nice sometimes, and not others. But she wants her students to succeed, but more than that she wants them to learn.
She's a good teacher, she knows her stuff and knows how to lecture and explain stuff. She's beyond unreasonable for simple things, and if you're ever lucky enough to see her be wrong about something, don't expect her to take it well. She has super strict grading criteria, feels like a high school class, but ultimately you do learn the material.
Dr. Meloche made chemistry something that I really enjoyed. I know a lot of people didn't like her, but she was my favorite professor. The content clinics and review sessions she held were at times that all of her students could go to. I am very appreciative to have had her a my professor and would take again if I got the chance to.
Dr. Meloche was an excellent professor. If you want to do well in chemistry and really understand the material, I recommend having her as a professor. She provides so many helpful resources and she is really good at explaining things! If anyone tells you she's terrible, just know that they probably didn't take advantage of all the help she provides
I spent a lot of time in this class and did not do very well. I even went to her content clinics. I took Chemistry in high school and loved it, this class made me hate chemistry. She went over material quickly and provided endless amounts of work. If you have not taken chemistry prior to this class, I would recommend getting a new professor.
The professor will help those that are willing to do the work. She gives you a great foundation that will help you succeed in future classes. Very well rounded teacher.
Not the most personable professor but she knows her stuff. She puts every ounce of effort into making sure you succeed, IF you take advantage of the opportunities. If its your first time learning chemistry be prepared to study, but to all looking for the right chem professor, she is it. Plus she writes the test and the practice exams are identical.
Take advantage of all the resources she provides to you and you will do fine!
This teacher I believe is super rude for no reason. I personally do not think she likes me. When letting the class introduce themselves she skipped me and also she likes to call me out a lot. I am a quiet student just trying to pass and she is just out of control. Just be aware this is what you really want before taking her as your teacher.
She is really fun and give amazing lecture. Her lecture is direct, straight to the point, and easy to understand. When you need help, she will be there and always encourage students to do better.
Okay lecture but goes too fast and is mean when you ask questions. Treats you like you're dumb
I read a few negative reviews on here, which is why I'm commenting. I've gotta defend Meloche! She is an incredibly clear professor. She repeats things several times for clarity. If you visit Explore More/office hours the class is an easy A. The class is fast paced, but c'mon. This isn't high school. Read the chapter before class.
Dr. Meloche is a great professor and I would highly recommend her. She can be rude and she may come across as condisending BUT she is a great person if you try to get to know her. She is super helpful and if you take advantage of all the help she offers you, you will do fine. Chem here is a hard class, you just have to be willing to put in the time
She's not a bad teacher. She knows chemistry, but she often only knows 1way of explaining, and in an intro level class with new concepts, some people ask a lot of questions. Sometimes she'll get openly frustrated by questions. She rubs some people the wrong way, and not just me, many others. Good teacher but I wouldn't hangout with her... ever
I only experienced Dr. Meloche through the study sessions she conducts on the weekends. She helps clarify and gives you acronyms for memorization. She really filled in all the blanks that my teacher never covers. Because of her helpfulness in the study sessions, I have requested to have her next semester for CHM 115
She really fun to work with and gives amazing lecture. Her Lecture is really straightforward and easy to understand. She will make you work for your grades, but as long as you showed her the effort, she will give you full points for it. If you respect her, then she will respect you. One thing though, she is often late to labs, but it not a big deal
Is not the type of professor to care about her students. If you ask her a question about something you really do not understand, she will explain it, but VERY rudely. I always felt very uncomfortable talking to her.
She is amazing! take her if you really want to learn. I am taking her for a second time now. She is usually the one that makes the quizzes &final exams so what she teaches is very important and having her is beneficial. She is straight up about how this material won't be easy and is strict with phones &laptops. Take her if you want her money worth
At first, I was not fond of Dr. Melcohe's grading or her attitude toward the class but as the semester progressed she really proved to be a good teacher. She has very good tips and tricks, the class itself is a little unorganized so they make a lot of mistakes on quizzes and tests. She does not have mercy for people who do not put in an effort.
DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT MOVE FORWARD, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This was one of the RUDEST teachers that I have ever met. She constantly talks to me like I'm stupid. I was afraid to ask questions and I'm the type to ask questions. Went to her office hours which didn't help and long story short, I ended up having a meeting with her boss and the dean.
Dr. Meloche is a really good teacher. She gives helpful tips to approaching the content. The only thing that I had a difficult time with was feeling intimidated to ask for help. She can be harsh and I often found myself a bit scared going to her office or approaching her with questions after class. If this is not an issue for you then she's great.
This professor is extremely condescending. While I did pass her class, her grading is so strict, it almost seems like she is itching to fail you. She holds herself in very high regard so good luck asking for her help on anything. She's way above that.
Professor Meloche is condescending and lacks respect for her students in class. When students asked questions, I typically found her responses to be flippant and rude to the student. Wastes time in the beginning of every class and rushes through the lecture.
Prof Meloche is extremely type A. She sets a timer so that she starts class exactly at the correct time. She spends a lot of time at the beginning talking about success goals for the week and then has to speed through the lectures. She says she cannot slow down, yet the class averages on quizzes are Ds and Fs.
She gives out very fast lectures and thinks we already know how to do every chemistry problem in the world! Never have I been so afraid to go to a chemistry class. I wish I went to this site before so I knew not to take her.
She does a great job explaining the concepts to a level that anyone can understand. Highly recommend her for Gen. Chemistry. Basically read your book, come to class, and ask questions. If you don't ask questions she will keep going in lecture, this is common sense she can't read your mind. Review sessions she hosts helps tremendously.
I honestly have no idea what any of these reviews are referring to. Dr. Meloche is knowledgeable, approachable and reasonable contrary to what these bad reviews are saying. The class itself is hard, and requires a lot of work if you don't understand immediately. However, she is more than willing to help and provides resources for such every week.
She's very knowledgable and explains things well. The class itself is hard and has a lot of work. She can be scary during class, but is very nice and helpful when talking one-on-one. Attend explore mores and class, they help so much. I failed this class with a different professor and she's much better. Work hard and study and you'll do fine.
If you take CHM-113, it doesn't matter what professor you have you're going to have a lot of homework (the syllabus is the same for each prof). I recommend taking Meloche bc she is who makes up the assignments/tests. Also, she was very caring and understanding (probably one of the nicest prof I've had). She wants all of her students to succeed.
I took meloche for both 113&115. Chemistry is a hard subject in general. She's tough and won't sugar coat anything, but man does she care about what she teaches. If you put in the work SHE WILL HELP YOU! Go to the sat. session do the resources! People always bash her but they never show up and try to learn. She is one of the best chm teachers!
Meloche is definitely one of the hardest professors I've ever had. She's type-A & can be really condescending. If you're not willing to put time into her class, don't even bother taking it! The class is difficult, but she cares about what she teaches. Lots of Hw and reading. She times your Quizzes and Exams. Had her for CHM 113, 115, and O Chem.
I had Meloche for CHM 113 and was skeptical. I've always been decent at chemistry but I think I blamed her for my less than great grade when I just didn't put the work in. I'm currently taking O-chem with her, and I don't think I've ever had a professor that I appreciate more than Dr. Meloche at this point. She cares about our success.
Avoid this professor at any cost! The grading criteria wasn't clear. Expect your class average score to be 40% on all exams.
Dr. Meloche is a very smart teacher, but a very hard grader. If she shows up in your schedule, try your best to change her or drop the class. Believe me she's not worth it at all. Very strict and pays attention to every single detail in the exams, and will find a way to deduct points. Grading is not very clear.
Dr. Meloche is an intelligent professor but expects her students to have full comprehension in organic chemistry before taking the class. She is a very hard grader. She is sometimes unapproachable and her humor is very dry.
I don't know how she is still a teacher at GCU. Unapproachable and is rude to all of the students. If you ever see her on your schedule do whatever you can to switch classes. Trust me, it isn't worth it. Definitely the worst professor I have ever had. I worked so hard to do well and she barely ever helped me.
Expect your exam average in class to be 40% most of the time. That's just a poorly written test, imo. Honestly if everyone failed your exam then you failed to make it known to them. Chemistry has always been my strength and enjoyable for me, but not with her. Highly recommend switching out.
Dr. Meloche has a type A personality. Judging from the stories she tells and the way she talks about colleagues, she also has a compulsion to be better than anyone else, including her students. Dr. Meloche is not comfortable until she makes students feel stupid.
She was a really great lab instructor for my second semester of organic chemistry. She was always willing to meet with students outside of class to go over or lab worksheets. She helped explain concepts in order for student to achieve good grades on weekly worksheets. She is a very chilled out and relaxed professor.
Professor Kitzmiller is probably the worst professor I have had. She cares very little for her students and does not even bother to learn their names. She can be very condescending, rude, and hypocritical. Her grading style is obscene as she takes off as many points as possible for even the simplest of mistakes. I highly recommend against her.
The strictest grading teacher I have ever had. I dropped a few other classes this semester because of the homework load for JUST THIS CLASS. Get ready to spend 30+ hrs a week outside of class on this class if you want a B, more time if you want an A. She's very condescending, and very unforgiving in her own mistakes. Shes the department head btw...
I really liked Dr. Kitzmiller, she made organics much easier to understand. She is extremely intelligent and VERY clear on her expectations. As long as you follow directions on lab reports, this class is an easy A. She is very helpful in office hours and explains things from a different point of view, which was nice. I wish she taught more classes!
Dr. Kitzmiller is tough, but she knows her stuff and gives great lectures. She makes it easy to understand and remember the material. This class has a lot of homework and few quizzes and test, but if you put in the effort and go to the IAs and her for help they will do everything they can to help you succeed.
She is a very good teacher and I learned a ton! This class is very time consuming and difficult if you are taking more than twelve credits so BEWARE! HW takes a few days to complete so make sure you stay on top, and make sure you follow the rubric for EVERYTHING! You will get an A if you really put in the effort and study a ton outside of class!
She goes out of her way to ensure you are getting every resource, every example, every piece of knowledge you need to succeed. Homework for this class is tedious but worth it to get the simple points.
Taking this class feels like I landed on a hotel on Broadwalk playing monopoly... This professor will BELITTLE you and make you feel like your unintelligent. Overtime, our class stop asking questions in class and other student would ask each other for help. No student should feel afraid. Other professors were glad to help me with no attitude.
Great teacher. She does make you work for your grade. Honestly cares about the success of her students. Work hard and she'll work hard to make sure you get the most out of her class. VERY accessible outside of her class. Takes her job as an educator seriously.
Definitely a tough grader and lecturer, but also cares about her students. If you put in the work you can get the grades you're looking for, no problem.
This class was very hard. I went and got extra tutoring help and still ended up dropping the class. She isn't very good at lecturing. Highly recommend switching out of this class.
She's very caring and helpful but you have to do a lot on your own. Chem isn't my strong subject but by getting As on all participation, homework, and practice questions saved my grade. She goes fast but has animated slides you can use for the math on your own. She's great, but it's hard to judge her since I hate chem, not her though.
I love Kitzmiller! She is a great lab professor, but you have to WORK for your grade. She is not for the weak minded, but she's understanding and caring. She reviews the lab and worksheets w/ you. She may seem intimidating @ 1st but she is genuinely a nice and good person. SHE IS NOT ONE TO GIVE AN EASY A, so be ready to work hard <3
Kitzmiller is a very knowledgeable and kind woman. She at times comes off cold but has a good heart. Go to class, read, fill out your resource packets and you will do fine. Definitely go to office hours she can help make a grade game plan. Beware of tests. I didn't do well on the midterm and struggled to bring up my grade the rest of the semester.
She doesn't give out easy grades, but as long as you go to lecture it's not a problem! She teaches everything that you will need to know for quizzes and makes it easy to understand. She really knows her stuff and is great at teaching it. Do the homework problems and quizzes will be easy.
Hard class
REALLY HARD, but gives out little tips to remembering the content considering she also struggled in college. My only con was that she taught REALLY fast, to the point where you didn't have time to ask questions. She explained the content vaguely. If you can, get someone else but she works. Just prepare for all nighters.
The lecture is way too fast if you are a slow learner I would recommend you take MWF class.
She is a good teacher but she is not easy. She is going to make you work for it but she does her best to teach and is very available if you don't understand something.
Dr, Kitzmiller does her best to teach you, but she lacks in ways such as making sure you get the material. She runs through materials really fast during lecture and is not really good about making sure the material is being understood fully. She is nice but her tests are difficult at times.
Dr. Kitzmiller is a great professor if you put the effort in for the class. Her lectures are a bit tough to follow and you have to put in time outside of class to learn the material. Make sure to review the material before going to office hours. However, she is open to working with you if it is evident you're working in the class.
She is very knowledgeable but moves to fast and doesn't answer questions fully. She also hardly ever has consistent office hours for help, and when she does she isn't very helpful.
I understand chemistry and did well in AP Chemistry when I took it junior year in high school. I missed a lot of points on really dumb things like not having all 600 things she wants on your homework cover page but I never missed a point on anything regarding chemistry. She's difficult to work with when making up assignments so just don't get sick.
Dr. Kitzmiller is very tough on her students. If you dont understand lecture, youre going to have to teach yourself because she will not help you. she is also very hard headed and has a terrible attitude towards her students. do not recommend.
Lectures quickly and gives lots of analogies/illustrations. Is helpful and caring in person, but also firm on the rules. Lost points for missing participation/not following instructions on homework add up quickly.
Terrible Professor. Actually the worst professor Ive ever had. She is not understanding at all. One time I went to office hours to turn in a late assignment one day late and it wasnt stapled so I asked to borrow a stapler and she got all agitated. Its just a stapler. Zero ability to empathize. Gives out 7 different papers a day for studying. BAD
Provides great examples in the worksheets, that help you learn the material for the exam. Read before class because the material builds off of each other. She is kind and will help students in office hours. Take this class seriously! Explore more sessions are also helpful.
She amazing and is so straight forward, tells you exactly what you need to know. But it is a hard class and you need to apply yourself. Come to class prepared and ready to learn and this class won't as be as hard. Lectures are beyond helpful and she is so approachable during office hours if you need extra help! Read the book! You'll thank me later!
She is not empathize with anyone. She has a major attitude when it comes to teaching which makes it difficult to ask question during lecture. At times I have felt very disrespected by her. She thinks very highly of herself which makes it difficult to approach. It is hard to communicate with her. I do not recommend her at all. Switch classes!
Outrageously tough grader. Don't think I've ever been given an A on any homework assignment for the stupidest reasons. Got minus points for not putting "professor" or "Dr" in front of her name on a homework assignment. Talks fast during lecture and doesn't cover everything needed to do homework and practice quizzes. Don't recommend her.
People don't like Dr. Kitz because of her persona, not her teaching. She is clear and upbeat. The CLASS is hard, not her. She does make you put more detail in homework reasoning, but that's the only difference from the other profs. She cares, gives you so many resources, has lots of office hours, and if you put the work in you'll be fine.
She is a great professor. However, she has a very blunt, black and white, and straight forward attitude in lecture which comes across very rude. She truly cares about her students and in office hours she is helpful. She prints lecture notes and practice resources for her students which most professors don't do. I recommend her
One of the best instructors ever! Fantastic lectures. She does everything she can to help students succeed. She creates amazing memorization techniques and goes way above and beyond any other chemistry professors. Hearing friends' experiences with other chemistry professors, they all missed out not having Kitzmiller and their grade showed it.
I think Dr. Kitzmiller does a good job. She goes in-depth and makes sure everyone is understanding the material. Although she doesn't make more time for you in class if you are the only one who doesn't understand something, she makes herself available outside of class. Chemistry is a tough class and I think she is a good professor for it.
Great professor, she engages with the class and is really energetic. She really helps especially when you don't other materials, she made taking chemistry interesting and something i looked forward to.
Dr. Kathryn Kitzmiller knows what she is talking about, but she is not empathetic. She will not bend the rules for anything. There is a lot of homework and quizzes and just work outside of class. I think there is too much for a 100 level class. I would not take her class again. If you can switch out of her class, do it.
Worst Professor I have ever had. Even if your answer is correct she will dock you all points for not having enough reasoning for your answer. She will dock all participation points if you miss any part of her class. She is confusing with her directions and does not care if there are technical issues with uploading documents. Do NOT take her!!!
She was an absolutely horrid teacher, from her day 1 speech telling us she expected some of us to fail, to rushing through the lectures and ignoring questions, to messing up the move to online classes and pushing several of my due dates into the future then giving me a zero if I hadnt turned it in by the original due date.
Dr. Kizmiller is very knowledgable and always pursuing ways to provide students with the most accurate info while giving them extra handouts, ways to organize your notes, and resources. Yes, she is specific in how she wants you to turn things in, but those who are bashing her just weren't willing to put in a little work. Welcome to college.
Dr. Kitzmiller is really good with chem. Still, she doesn't help students when it comes to one-on-one questions. I walked into her office hours once and overheard her ranting to another teacher. I still went in but she had a major attitude and I could tell she wanted me to leave quickly. She hates being wrong and has 0 empathy. Don't take her.
Fr. Kitz miller has to be one of the saddest professors at GCU. She makes everything more difficult then it has to be, and at the end of the day she grades her gen chem class like its a O chem class. She does none of her work, she makes her IAs do everything and she just has a lack of care for her students and their success. Dont take her class.
This was by far the worst class at GCU ive ever had to take. It was a gen chem class yet she treated it like a O chem class. Assigned seats in college? Kitzmiller knows chemistry well, but when it comes to her thoroughly teaching, she doesnt do a good job. She rushes through lecture, never does work(only her IAs) and her attitude sucks.
I took Prof Kitzmiller for CHM113 lecture. She was a good professor when she was lecturing, but the class is very heavy on homework, quizzes, and exams. I don't think any of that is her fault however. She also assigned groups which had to sit together during class, make of that what you will. Overall would recommend her to some but not all.
Dr. Kitzmiller has a lot of knowledge about chemistry but doesn't care about teaching her students. She made the class excessively hard with homework and quizzes which you had to include reasoning for and would always find a way to dock you points. She makes the IAs do all the work and would rather have you go them instead of come to her for help.
Professor is very inconsistent with the grading and structure of the class. She would say one thing and grade as another. She is very extra. No modifications during a pandemic. Avoid. No empathy. Will dock off points as much as possible. Doesn't care for success. Made lab so time-consuming that not enough attention was given to lecture.
Personally, she has been my favorite science teacher so far! I enjoyed having her for online classes but she will make you WORK for the grade. However, she is very direct about what she expects. Just keep up with the work and make sure you follow her instructions. She is also easy going and you can talk to her regarding any issues in class.
Highly recommend. She explains what will be on exams and quizzes and will prepare you for success! Put in the work and you will get the grade you deserve.
While I think that Dr. Kitzmiller tried her best to work with our class, the quizzes you take every week are a bit ridiculous. More than half the information on them isn't related to the material you were supposed to read prior to taking the test. Class activities were never helpful they were more of time wasters. Worst Class Ever.
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. She has absolutely no empathy. If you have a personal emergency or need help on anything, she does nothing to try to help you. Actually, I think she actively tries to make the situation worse for you. Would rather drop out and suffer in a minimum wage customer service job for the rest of my life than ever deal with her again.
Gen chem is a breeze if you go to lecture and asks questions. All chem classes at GCU are test and homework heavy, you can't escape that. Her office hours were great and she is really helpful if she can see that you are trying and paying attention during class.
In the nicest terms, she's quite possibly the worst professor I've ever encountered. She has little to no empathy in understanding that her students have other classes outside of her own course. She consistently contradicts everything she says about her assignments & the grading criteria aren't clear. I would not recommend taking her.
Honestly, this isn't the best teacher I've ever had. The class is okay but I really don't see a real purpose for it. She always reiterates how she's new for this course but somehow always finds a way to indirectly blame the students for her lack of effective examples and explanations. The lectures always take up time and the work is useless.
If you have the option to drop her as your professor do so now! She has no empathy and does not really come off as caring at all or like she really cares about her students. She spends some classes off on tangents about her niece and it has nothing to do with the class. Her grading is very unclear. She is not genuine at all. Worst professor ever!
She has no empathy and will not even try to understand what a student is trying to talk to her about. Grading is always unclear and she ALWAYS contradicts herself about what she wants on assignments. Lectures are a waste of time because they aren't about anything important and the assignments she gives us are random and useless too. Don't take her.
Dr. Kitzmiller is kind, but her class is very exhausting. Each week you would read readings on your own while doing an assignment and then take a test on it. You are never able to see where you went wrong and there are two quizzes EVERY week plus assignments. You only talk about assignments and unnecessary things during class. I dont recommend.
She is awful! She has no care or concern for her students. She also checks every little thing for plagiarism and will report you to code of conduct even if you didnt cheat or use resources. She spends the first 30 min of class talking about herself and then expects you to know in depth details on exams. The worst prof Ive had in all of college
Avoid taking Kitzmiller at all costs. She acts nice, but does not care for students whatsoever and is no help outside the class for lecture or assignment questions. Her feedback is minimal and she simply reads off PowerPoints during lecture.
It is definitely a hard class because of the subject taught, however she does give a lot of outside resources. She also provides notes for class power points and is extremely helpful during office hours. Honestly as long as you put in the effort you will pass and actually learn things! We also got her to play among us, so she's chill.
This woman is a terrible teacher. She teaches at a 6th grade level and tests at a graduate level. There was rarely a time when the class finished the quizzes or tests on time. She also will tear apart a 50 question test and accuse someone of cheating by search engine on one question and report it to GCU. Its really unsettling when taking an exam.
All time the worst teacher I have ever had. She is not understanding, will call you out during class, very hard on you even if its your first semester. If youre a freshman taking SCI150 change your teacher ASAP if you have her.
I was scared going into Dr. Kitzmiller's class because I had heard a lot of mixed reviews. However, Kitzmiller was extremely helpful and encouraging. She wanted us to understand the material and made it clear what we should be studying by providing reading guides. If you put in the work, then you can expect to do just fine.
Ok, I will say this, I was taking this class online during the 2020 semester, this was my first time going into Chemistry (Long story), and I was under a lot of stress. I will say this, Kathryn is a pretty good teacher. She slowly goes over the material, leaves no student behind, and is always will be willing to help you out.
Great teacher but horrible at making assessments. Loves to blame students for cheating as well and has 0 empathy for any student mistake. Early in the semesterin what is a base chem classI read the directions incorrectly and submitted a quiz on Halo rather than Testmoz. I then received a 0/20 and wasnt given a single chance to recuperate it
Dr. Kitzmiller is such a great professor. Her lectures are AMAZING! She walks through plenty of example problems and will continue to go over them until everyone seems to have an understanding of it. Chemistry is a difficult subject but she 100% provides you with great practice resources, fantastic lectures, and is always available for office hours
this is a hard class. but she gives you tons of videos and games to help. I would recommend. makes the class a lot better.
This professor does have lots of games and seems super fun and caring, but she truly doesn't care what you're going through and is not accommodating. I had a family emergency, so I left for 3 weeks to go back home and when I came back, I wasn't allowed to make-up anything so I had to drop the class. She makes you memorize everything.
Kitzmiller is just not a great teacher. She is pretty strict, no electronics allowed at all. She prints the notes in big packets and they are fill in the blank. She doesnt make chem easy, and the testing conditions are extremely strict. Almost as if you were taking the SAT. She is also department head of chemistry. Dont take her.
Instead of teaching and walking students through chemistry problems, she would have them complete a Quizziz or Kahoot as her lecture. I didn't think this learning style would helpful as the concepts got more complex so I dropped. However, her powerpoints were great because they included resources like helpful youtube videos and mnemonics devices.
Lectures consist of mearly reading over the slides. When questions are asked, she says she does not have time to answer them... hmmm.. No preparation for the exams whatsoever... horrible teaching style..
I failed Deos chemistry and I hear a lot of good things about him. however I do like her better for chemistry. She knows when you are bored and tries to spice it up with games. which is nice. She is also helpful if you have questions! I recommend her for chemistry 113
Not helpful at all. She "doesn't have time" to answer questions in class. She goes lighting speed just reading through the powerpoint slides and then goes straight into games even if you do not understand. She is department head and very strict. Participation is important and she checks attendance.
Professor Kitzmiller comes to class with a bright and outgoing personality which makes learning a very hard concept, a bit more fun. She wants her students to succeed and will always go over wrong answers on quizzes and what you need to work on for the exam. Overall I enjoyed her class.
Great person teaching a questionably dense syllabus...
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! She is a horrible professor, she talks a million miles an hour. She doesn't take the time to answer any of your questions. She will report you to the code of conduct if you have any number other than 0 in your similarity score. You will have no mental health after this class.
This professor is tough. She is the hardest grader I have experienced in my four years here. The lectures get very confusing because of the fast pace which is probably why I don't recommend her. However, she cares a lot of the material she teaches and cares a lot about the success of her students.
Classes weren't mandatory, but if you skip a class under any circumstance, you'll be lost as to what to do. You best pay attention to those slides, or else you'll crumble. She's a good teacher if you're working towards a career in science, but unfortunately for me, I wasn't.
This professor does very well in explaining the concepts behind the chemistry in this course, I highly recommend to come prepared to class by having either read the textbook or done some practice problems beforehand. They bring in a very positive energy to the class and was always willing to go beyond to help the students.
She moves way to fast and makes you feel like a terrible person for not getting what she doing
She can be a tough grader, but she does grade by her rubrics and she was willing to explain why she took points off and once she had mis-graded a question for me and gave me the points back when I asked. Go to her office hours! She is quick about responding to halo messages. Use accommodations on the test if possible. I would take her again.
Dr.Kitzmiller is a tough grader, it seems like points were taken off for really small things. She explains the material in a great way however, has a very condescending tone to her feedback and when answering your questions. It can make you uncomfortable to ask questions and comes off as rude sometimes.
Anything about the tests/homework is the same across the entire chem department no matter the teacher. None of the bad reviews really reflected her as a professor she is LOUD and talks CLEAR in lecture which is GOOD. She's accessible and helpful outside of class. Teaching style is more inclined to being relatable and humorous.never.boring
I dropped her class last semester with a C- and retook the class with a diff professor and I now have an A. It's a very difficult course but she had a tendency to assume we knew everything she was already teaching. I went to office hours once and all she said was "i told you in the lecture". It didn't help that most of her review was kahoot either.
Professor Kitzmiller cares a lot about her students and making sure they understand the material she is teaching. After every section in the powerpoint, she will do comprehension checks through kahoots or small group questions that really made a huge difference in understanding and applying the material taught. very hard quizzes and exams though.
Literally, take any other professor, this one is way too fast and is borderline rude to the class. I've learned more from youtube in 2 hours than from the entire semester with this teacher. Submitted assignments and they got marked as a zero for missing even though they were submitted. If you value your money and time do not take this professor.
Okay, Chemistry is hard, and I was scared to take this class. She gives a lot of resources to take practice quizzes, kahoots, youtube videos, worksheets, etc. For me, I didn't get much out of her lectures and I was able to learn the concepts on youtube. I highly recommend Melissa Meribel on Youtube, I was able to learn the concepts way faster.
CHM113 isn't an easy class to begin with. Kitzmiller gave us so many resources to succeed and was also super kind and caring when I went to office hours. She lets you have a grace pass to use for participation or to move an exam which absolutely saved my grade when SDS did nothing for me.I wish I could take her for 115, as she truly did a lot for us
Kitzmiller was a bit strict, but she truly cared about her student's success. She provided lots of useful resources & was easy to reach via message on Halo. She was very strict when it came to participation in DQs, but if you were careful to follow her instructions, you can get a good grade. Work hard, follow her instructions, & you will succeed!
When it came to participation points she does a bad job describing what criteria needs to be met during the discussion replies. She isn't helpful at all and I wouldn't recommend her.
I took Dr Kitzmiller's CHM 101 lab and lecture (8 week online class.) The best online class I have ever taken. Dr Kitzmiller has CLEAR expectations. She repeats herself in every posts she makes, to benefit the students. Some expectations are harder than others, but your success is up to you. I finished with an A+ in both courses. Great prof.
