The class is way hard and she doesn't help. Not specific about what she wants from you until after you do it. Tests are hard to study for. Give yourself a break sub chem 1010 for chem 1310, unless you want to ruin your GPA.
VERY HARD!! Tests are extremely difficult based on application of knowledge not what can memorize.
I really did not like this class. Everytime I would ask her something, she would look at me and answer it like I was stupid, which made me feel uncomfortable. Tests are hard and a lot of the things that are on the tests are never covered in class.
i really did not enjoy her class. I usually love chemistry, but whenever you asked her something, she would look at you like you were stupid. really did not appreciate it.
I enjoyed Ms. Rust's class. I got an A in it. I felt that I would use some of the things we did in class when I teach middle school science. She was helpful and I found it one of my easier classes. I had never had Chemistry in my school career.
test are impossible to study for.
I hope that i pass! She is as sweet as can be and will help you when you need it but it is extremely difficult!
I wish I would have taken Chem 1010 b/c this class made my GPA drop. She teaches her class the way she wants her kids to be taught she says. If thats the case, her kids will learn nothing. Not a good teacher or class at all.
The most discouraging thing in the world is studying forever and failing a chem test. If you take this woman, get used to it, and say good bye to you GPA. Im sure she knows what she is talking about but that doesn't mean I do.
This class is pretty hard!!! She goes through everything very quickly and gives tests left and right. It is definitely not a class you can skip.
I absolutely hated this class. Mrs. Rust is not a good teacher. Her tests are impossible to study for. The test questions must come out of the air because a lot of times I was seeing new material and I never missed a class. Take CHEM 1010!
She is super nice, but class is dreadful. Tests are difficult, you either know the stuff or you don't and then you're screwed.
I think Ms. Rust needs to look up the word concepts in the dictionary again. Her class is beyond the Concepts of Chemistry. I loved Chemistry in high school and made an A but her class made me hate it!
I believe she has something against education majors.LOL>.Her tests have few questions on them and are hard. Her lectures cover material, but can still be confusing. She is not my kind of teacher.I recommend any person who has trouble in class to go the Chemistry Tutoring as soon as possible.
Mrs. Rust is a very hard instructor; however, she is very helpful. If you don't understand something she tries her best to make it become clear to you. Her tests are not impossible but you must keep up with studying. You can't wait till the last minute to study for her tests.
Mrs. Rust is an excellent teacher. She makes Chemistry interesting. She also explains things in a way that you can understand them. I heard horror stories about this class, but it is not bad at all--You just have to study!
Nice, but not. She seems to dislike males for some reason. Her tests are very odd. I know a highschool chem teacher that looked over my test and said several things were wrong. So be careful and be a sweet christian female and you will do fine.
I highly suggest to take Kathryn during the summer, the class is very small. With such a small class there is a lot more one on one time which helps so much, especially if you have trouble in you science classes like I did. She really does try to help, you just have to ask!! Don't let others scare you, just go to class. Goodluck!!
Mrs. Rust is passionate about the subject she teaches and about her students learning. She tries to accomodate to all learning styles. Her tests are based on what you know and how you apply what you know. You cannot slack off in this class, but if you study, do your homework, and pay attention, you should do well.
this woman is a psycho. do not take concepts of chemistry at all costs. take regular chem instead. she doesn't teach, she just assums you know the material. her tests are very ambiguous, it's hard to understand what she wants. she thinks that people have no lives except to spend hours working on this class.
a lot of work
She is one of the nicest professors I have had here at Tech. She honestly cares about her students. There is a ton of extra credit that you can earn. As long as you do your work, it is an easy A.
This class is based on what you do in the labs and learn in the lectures. Tests are not multiple choice, more essay than anything. They aren't easy but if you pay attention and come to class you can easily make a B.
Ms.Rust is not understandable at all she doesn't have any feelings about her students unless you are a genious and care about chemistry a ton. She never gives extra credit except once and her test have nothing to do with her notes. It stinks because she is the only teacher for Education majors chemistry!
Mrs. Rust 1310 Chemisty:extremely hard, daily quizzes; Exams: extremely hard; missed labs (20 points each) can't be made up; Be indepth in your lab answers or she will count off points; Do all the extra credit for you will need it; Portfolio: takes several days to complete; Rust:helpful, friendly; USE TUTOR LAB OFTEN, AS NEEDED.
She is a hard teacher and makes the class a hard one to take. She does not care at all about her students and thinks that you should already know the material. Her tests are horrible. They are very short and unexplained,as well as her daily quizzes. She is the only teahcer that Tech has to teach this class, which is a big disadvantage for the students.
Very nice.. however the class is horrible! She is not very helpful. If you miss one class she gives you the stink eye. The tests are HORRIBLE!!!!
Mrs. Rust is a good person, just a horrible professor! The way she teaches is horrible, you can't understand here at all! And she has no office hours, so forget help from her, if failed the class, but i don't have to take it again either since i switched majors! Beware of here, she is the only one you can take. I would take it at a community colleg
Worst professor ever. Uses very technical terms like "stuff" and "things". Describes electron cloud as "smushy". Terrible instruction. Not available outside of class. 1 office hour a week. Takes forever to put grades online. Stopped taking notes the lectures were so useless...I'll be surprised if I have my final grade by July.
Take someone else for 1120!! She doesn't seem to know what she is doing. Never responds to emails. Takes forever to post keys and grades. The lab is just as bad, and towards the end of the semester she just stopped explaining things in lecture before lab. She HATES to curve like the other professors for some reason. She killed my love of chem!
Mrs Rust is a very sweet person, but the hardest professor I have had yet! She is the only one that teaches 1310 so you will have to take her if you take the class at Tech. Tests are really hard. Most of the questions on the tests are thought questions which apply to daily living. They are really hard! Good Luck!
i really like ms. rust she is a nice warm hearted person. i didn't like her as a teacher unfortunately. i felt she talked to students like children and the tests were so out there it was almost impossible for anyone to pass and i had some really smart ppl in my class. quizzes everyday and labs are bout the only way to maintain a good grade.
She expects you to have knowledge of the content before you even start the class. Miserable class!
It is quite hard. She is a good person but the class is really tough. The questions on the tests are near impossible to know how to answer unless you can read her mind. I suggest reading the book for better understanding. This is pretty tough and so much is expected from you. It goes by incredibly slow. Good luck to you!
Mrs. Rust is a very hard teacher, and you will know it by the time that you get out of the class, She is a wonderful sweet christian as a person, but horrible as a professor. Shes the only professor that teaches the class so good luck to you!!
Dont know why all the terrible ratings. Taking her for 1110 and shes pretty clear and actually thoroughly explains each topic. our class was behind all the other classes but thats cuz she spends more time on subjects. alot clearer than dycus and furtsch. she had help sessions and answered questions on emails. defintely take her if ur an engineer.
She's HORRIBLE. The worst professor I've ever had. She talks a lot & brings interesting things to lecture, but she does NOT prepare students for the test. The TTU chem dept. has a general test for all basic chem classes, & she could care less. She lectures like we're kindergarteners, & expects students to pass tests with no preparation. GOD AWFUL.
This class was very time consuming. She expects way too much out of her students for this to be a concepts of chemistry class. A lot of projects that she grades extremely hard. I ended up with a B but I put all of my time and attention into this class. Also, it may help if you have any prior knowledge of chem. Good luck!
She does expect a lot out of you, but she will help you understand the material if you just email her or ask you. She was wonderful to me and extremely encouraging. Definitely recommend for people who want learn.
she is extremly hard but she will always help and cares about her students. just dont be afraid to speak up!
Mrs. Rust is extremely sweet, but she's a very hard teacher. She expects a lot of you and expects you to eat and sleep Chemistry. You do learn a lot in her class. There is an easy quiz given everyday. She doesn't grade you on any of the labs so don't freak out. Sometimes she's not very helpful, but overall it isn't too bad.
Professor Rust is extremely hard and very vague in her teachings. She teaches as if everyone has had Chemistry everyday in their life prior to her class. If you never had a Chemistry Class prior to this one, then be prepared. She waits to the last minute to post study guides and waits to the day of the final to post a study guide. BEWARE.
If you have high hopes for being an Engineer and Gen Chem is giving fits then it's going to be a long road ahead. I understand this is one of the first real classes you take, but come on, it's not bad. Mrs. Rust is very lenient, she curves a lot, and everything is pretty straightforward. So it's not as easy as High School. Get used to it.
She can be pretty nice during class and the lectures are usually very clear. When you get the test you think you're prepared but NO. She designs her tests so that you will fail. Each exam the class average was failing. She grades hard and likes to make you feel stupid. Unfortunately she's the only 1310 chem teacher. Dont buy book!
She is a very difficult teacher. She can explain things if you go to one of her study session things, but in class it is terrible. She bores the class as well and barely uses the text book.
She is a very hard teacher. She doesn't explain things well and expects you to know it. She doesn't use the book much,I wouldn't buy it. Her test are hard so study!. She gives a quiz every class time and you get attendance points. Her homework is hard. You can't just slide by in this class. You have to study hard and really try in order to pass!
HORRIBLE TEACHER!! But, a very nice christian woman. If you go and talk to her about your grade she will try to help you. Always answers emails quickly, if there is anything she can do to help you, she will. However, she does not teach half of what is on the exams, always behind. You will not learn ANYTHING from her. Never cancels. Hates to curve!
very hard quizzes. She is always behind the other teachers, crams the day before exams. OWL homework is horrible. (If you ask she will usually extend it). If you don't have to have this class, DON'T TAKE IT. The whole Tech Chemistry dept. is horrrrible! Stay away! If you have to have the class, take someone else. However,Rust is a caring christian.
She is a very bad teacher! She combines the lecture and lab into one class so you barely do labs and have to sit through 2 and a half hours of lecture. I would not recommend her. She makes the class way harder than it should be and she is impossible to please. Everything has to be perfect and just her way.
I would highly recommend her. She is very nice even though her quizzes can be a bit tricky, however the account for only fifteen percent of your final grade. She does tend to get a bit behind and rush towards the end though. The homework is not terrible, it is around the same amount as the other classes. Very friendly and will help you if you ask.
MS. Rust is quite possibly the worst teacher I've ever known. She is friendly, but she likes to joke about reasons she failed to receive her doctorate. Her quizzes are VERY hard & the averages are in the 50s every time. If you want to pass, don't take her. If you want to learn, don't take her. She is all around horrible. I couldn't hate her more.
She gives hard attendance quizzes every single day that most people never make good grades on. She won't give any extra credit. She takes weeks to grade quizzes. She laughs an she gives us hard questions & then literally makes fun of us. She doesn't use the book as wastes a lot of time. Very bad teacher. Very hard and doesn't curve ANYTHING. AVOID!
Two words....good luck! She is horrible and likes to give you life lessons on stuff that isn't her place....her quizzes suck and she'll mark things wrong when it's what she told you is the answer....she doesn't like giving you full credit for anything and her class is draining!!! Don't take her and don't buy the book bc you don't use it ever!
She is very nice, but she is not a great teacher. Very hard quizzes. She doesn't prepare you for the hour exams and is always late to grading quizzes. The only plus side is she changes the date that OWL is due to a later date.
If you enjoy chemistry then I do not suggest this class only because is ridiculously easy and you will learn nothing. However, if you do not enjoy chemistry I HIGHLY recommend this teacher.
I had Ms. Rust for LAB for CHEM 1110. She is really nice, but the quizzes were awfully hard and the grading was super harsh. The prelab lectures were okay but sometimes confusing. In lab help was (sometimes) available, but usually didn't quite match up with the way it was explained in lecture. I suggest you don't take her for lab.
She moves slowly through material, grades harshly and is terribly boring, but with that being said I still pulled off an A and learned a good bit. On the nationally standardized final with around a 50% average I missed 2 out of 75 questions, so she obviously isn't the worst instructor out there.
I had Mrs. Rust for Chem 1110. As a person, she is very nice and helpful. As a teacher, she far from the best. She moves slowly through the material and then rushes to finish everything at the end of the semester. She has very harsh grading and messes up the grading quite a bit. If you are a STEM major, she is not the teacher you need.
This class is not hard at all as long as you don't skip the assignments. She's a great teacher, and the material itself isn't too hard. We had a short quiz almost every class, and we had to turn in a journal most days before class. Oh, and we only needed the book once or twice for journal entries, but I never bothered getting it.
Mrs. Rust is the absolute WORST teacher I have had in my school career! If you ask for help in class she will say, "we wont spend class time on it, but you can Google it." She NEVER reviews for tests and the tests are COMPLETELY different then what the notes look like. The class average on test are in the 50s and she doesn't curve! DO NOT TAKE!!!!
I enjoyed chem until I took Mrs. Rust. There's a quiz everyday, thats over things she barely covers the day before. She crams so much in one class it's hard to keep up. She grades WAY too hard. If its not absolutely perfect and how she wants it she'll take off points. And don't even think about asking for help. DONT TAKE
Mrs. Rust hates to give full credit for ANYTHING. She assigns pointless projects like sewing a stuffed mole and participating in a science fair. You have to write journals, take quizzes every class, lots of online hw, and impossible tests. She also takes forever to grade things. You have to buy a lab book, textbook, online access code, & goggles.
Inappropriate dresser, not very good at teaching, I experienced a lot of confusion, and I'm barely going to pass if I pass. Wish me luck on my finals!
Mrs. Rust was a horrible teacher. She does not help you even if you ask for help. She will talk to you like you are stupid when try to ask her a questions. The amount of work in the class is crazy. You have 3 big projects, a test every 2 weeks, a quiz every time you go to class and a journal due before the next class. DO NOT TAKE.
I understand that Chem 1110 is supposed to be a difficult class anyways, but Mrs. Rust makes it so much more difficult. I literally had to teach myself everything for this course. Her quizzes have nothing to do with the examples she goes over in class. She's a wonderful woman, don't get me wrong. But she's a horrible teacher. AVOID!!!
Mrs. Rust is a thoughtful and sincere person. Her style of lecturing did not come across well to me. It seemed that we were always playing catch up. The material between homework and what was instructed in class was not similar in my opinion. My best advice is to read the confusing text book, go to her for one-on-one help, and consult others
She is not very clear when she gives you assignments and you have a quiz everyday. She is a really hard grader and she does not try and help you when you need it.
Mrs. Rust is a great professor. This is not a class that you can show up for, put no effort into, and expect an A. It does take work, but she is very clear about what she expects and exactly what you need to do for an A. Do all your work and don't be afraid to ask for help, and you'll have no problems with her. Love Mrs. Rust!
Mrs Rust is one of the nicest and most helpful professors I have had. She is willing to help and really cares about your grades. There are 2 tests+final, daily but easy attendance quizzes (show up because these count), and homework for each chapter, which is not hard. It's no walk in the park so you have to put effort in to get an A
Mrs. Rust is a wonderful woman to talk to like I would talk to on any given day, however as far as I can tell her teaching style compared to every other professor for this class is lacking. Doesn't use I learn or post notes like other professors.
Mrs. Rust gives the class four test, 3-4 projects, online homework, and daily attendance quizzes. While she is always willing to help, even with that the class is a challenge. Test are hard, online homeworks are long. You have to study to pass! TAKE THE FINAL, it is extra credit. She will bump you up a letter grade, if you at least try.
When you go to her for help she will help, but only if you have a good reason. She isn't very clear on what is going on and most of the class is lab and it feels more like playing. When she does lecture it seems like it lasts a lifetime. If you can avoid taking her do it!
Mrs. Rust is a nice lady, but she isn't the greatest teacher. The quizzes are extremely difficult with no multiple choice and explain your answers. She will help you during her office hours, but you canunderstand everything and still barely pass the quizzes. I've heard all the other teachers are way easier. So, take someone else if you can.
Don't take her in less you just have too. This was probably one my hardest classes had to take and not because the class is hard, it the teacher. She makes it so hard to get a good grade on any assignments. She does though give out extra credit, which you will need. I could took this class online and so wish I had!
Study for the quizzes and you still might only make a C. However, the exams are usually easier than the quizzes. She lectures the whole time. Get ready to write b/c she doesn't post her notes online. You take attendance quizzes every day, and they aren't always the easiest. Get out of this class if you can.
This professor will make you work for the grade you want but what teacher shouldn't. I thought she was good, overall. I would take again.
Mrs. Rust is a nice woman but do not take this class. I had to take Chem 1 because of my major and she is by far the worst Chem teacher at tech. She expects everyone to already know the basics and some advanced parts of Chem. Her quizzes are the worst. Don't expect to get any A's on them unless you are planning on being a chemist or chemical eng.
be prepared to be confused every class period. 3 projects, 4 exams and then an optional final. you can tell she wants you to pass but she is just difficult to follow during class.
Available for help
Literally the worst professor I've ever had. 0/10 would recommend. If you have any other option, take it!
Ms. Rust is a very nice professor who is accessible and willing to work with students. Daily attendance quizzes taken, but you'll do fine if you remotely pay attention. Quizzes are all short answer, and are pretty difficult, but I felt well prepared for the hour exams and the final. Go to class, take notes, study, pay attention, and you'll be fine.
Mrs. Rust is a Great teacher! She knows her content very well! Her quizzes may be hard but she gives partial credit for showing your work. She will make you work for the grade but she will also help you as much as possible and encourages you to come to her office anytime and she is there most of the day.
Very nice, caring professor. Averages on the quizzes are around a 50 to a 70. Has attendance quizzes. Most annoying thing about her class is that she doesn't post the notes online. Doesn't allow you to have electronics out during class, such as a phone, laptop, or tablet. All the homework is online, but not on iLearn, which all other classes use.
Professor Rust is a very genuinely kind lady. She cares about her students and that is why she pushes you. You can't expect to not put your best effort in and receive an A. She is an extremely tough grader. The exams are very challenging and you must fully understand the concept to do well. It isn't a memorization game with her. Overall great!
From the moment she begins lecturing to the class before the final, she always assumes that you've both read the entire chapter of the textbook being covered ahead of time and that you've taken chemistry in high school. Having done neither this class was difficult due to about 30% material and 70% lack of a proficient professor.
Toughest class that I've ever taken.
AWFUL!! She gives hours worth of homework and grades very hard! Her tests are impossible to pass, she cannot answer students questions in class, her handwriting is impossible to read, and you do very pointless activities in class that does not help you for the homework or tests!! I do not recommend her for anyone and if you avoid taking her do it!!
Professor Rust is overall a caring and well rounded lady. Gen chemistry is a very tough subject to teach and learn so you will have to put in the work to get a decent grade. She is hard to understand in lecture but one on one she is amazing. She is very accessible outside of class and use that to your advantage, because it helps tremendously.
Kathy is a terrible teacher, (if you're reading this and you're signed up to take her... leave now while you still have a chance.) All the other teachers give 100% multiple choice quizzes yet she feels the need to add in written answer????!!!? Bottom line, don't take her. It's bad for your GPA. Her average score on quizzes is 50-59%.
She is a very nice person, but she's not the best teacher. She is more than willing to help outside of class, and genuinely cares about her students. Quizzes are really hard and are part short answer. She uses an online program for homework which is very time-consuming and doesn't always follow along with what you're doing in class.
Participation quizzes that you won't be able to get everything right and takes 5 or more minutes of in class time that most of the time she didn't go over in class. Class exams are multiple choice/short answer that you will run out of time on because you have to show work. you won't have enough time to get everything right or finish the test.
Don't take her. bad teacher!!!!!
Mrs. Rust is a nice person, but not a very good teacher. She talks at you instead of teaching you, and she gives quizzes that are vastly different from all the other professors even though we all take the same test. She is available for help and is willing to help you, but I personally would not recommend taking her class
worst teacher that I have ever had in my life. if you are thinking about taking her class do not do it. she lectures for the entire class and gives participation quizzes that you do not have enough time to finish. quizzes do not prepare you for the exam. terrible
You definitely have to work in this class. It has been by far the hardest class I have taken at college. She doesn't make it any easier either. However, if you have to take her, make sure its in the FALL (more extra credit).
Professor Rust is amazing. She is tough and expects a lot, but if you put work into the class, you can come out with an A. She holds office hours every day, and she is more than willing to help. ASK QUESTIONS and pay attention. She really cares about her students, and she just wants us to care too. She also offers tons of extra credit!
Kathy Rust not only cares about Chemistry, but she makes it very apparent that she cares about her students as well. Take advantage of her office hours! She has them every day of the week. Her class is tough with a ton of work to put into it, but you can get a decent grade as long as you put in your best effort.
She says to practice online quizzes she gives out but are nothing like the actual quizzes. The class average on the quizzes was not higher than a 60 and we took over 8 quizzes. Hardest Chem teacher at tech.
Professor Rust is a nice lady, but an extremely not fun teacher. She assigns a TON of homework- even during a pandemic. By far the hardest class I have had.
Following the tornado and COVID 19, no accommodations were made to help with the new online format. This was a terrible experience for everyone. Be prepared to waste hours on the homework interface ALEKS on work that went largely unused. I have come out of this course with no extra knowledge on the subject. Terrible professor.
Most important, work on the 4 projects as soon as they are assigned or cram at the end! Tests do not accurately reflect what we learn in class or how we learn it and therefore are very tough. You can pass with an A with not so great test grades, just try hard on the projects. Ask questions and show up so she knows you care. Good luck!
Literally the hardest class I have ever taken. She is the toughest grader I have ever had. I was In her class with covid -19 first hit & we were moved online- she did not care. We had almost 40 assignments that took between 2-3 hours each. She expects so much from you-to the point It will stress you out. If you can get out of this class, get out!
Quizzes are impossible to pass, she will give a ton of Alek to do. The exams are easier than her actual quiz... do not take her if you take chemistry.
Professor Rust is a great teacher. In my opinion, she does a great job explaining difficult concepts and genuinely cares about her students. Her tests and quizzes are very difficult. However, she usually reviews the kinds of questions that would be on an exam. Averages on quizzes/tests are around 50%, and she doesn't curve them.
She is overall and AWFUL professor. She doesn't want her students to pass and cannot answer her own questions correctly. She makes tons of mistakes and cannot clearly get to the correct answer. Her quizzes are ridiculously hard and impossible to pass. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FAIL!!!!!!!!
Okay, so don't get me wrong Prof. Rust is super nice but her class is AWFUL! One thing that really bugs me is she lectures after we take an exam! She has tons of work and most of the time I feel like I am just trying to get the assignments done and not learning. She seems she does not care about the workload and her tests are so hard!!
if you can avoid this professor... I highly RECOMMEND it. She seems nice, but then you realize she is just nosey. Her test are very unfair. You can study, but she is such a tough grader that it's just impossible to impress her. Several students struggle because of her. At some point professors need to realize we have lives too. Good luck
First off, I'm sorry for all education majors who have to take Kathryn Rust. If you're not one, avoid her at all costs. Her lectures rarely lined up with the exams which were super hard. A tough grader for sure. Make sure to do all the projects and study study study. She assigns a lot of homework. Grading is on a point system so keep that in mind.
Kathryn Rust is the worst professor you will ever have. As a future educator, she is a clear example of everything I don't want to be. She makes projects and homework all due on the same day as each exam. She piles on the homework but will take a month to grade it. it is almost may now and I literally just had an assignment graded from February.
The tests are very hard. The class averages were around a 50. The homework and the tests are nothing alike. If you go to recitation and put in a lot of participation you can come out okay but don't expect an A.
Rust is inconsiderate, unfair and rude. Her "lectures" are nothing but lab work that do not help you on the exams. There is no study material and all of her major projects are due on the date of a test. Regardless of any circumstances, including the pandemic, she offers no help, empathy or consideration and absolutely no late work or extensions
She does not explain well and moves very fast, so I go to study hall to get the other professors to re teach me
Mrs. Rust is an absolutely the worst professor I have taken. Her quizzes are impossible to pass, because you have no idea what she wants. She goes over content to quickly. She has participation quizzes which should be based on participation. She grades you on the content that you just had gone over. Overall, dont tak her you wont learn.
She makes us write tons of notes. I end up writing 4-6 pages in one 50 minute lecture. That being said, she goes through the content way too fast which does not give me a clear understanding. I've spent most of the semester just trying to go back to her lecture videos to rewrite the notes and hopefully understand the content. I'd avoid this one.
This content is difficult and there is a lot of work. However, Prof Rust is very kind and ALWAYS available to help! Be willing to pay attention, ask questions, and study and you will do fine. You may not make the best grades, but she gives a lot of work so it will all even out in the end. You don't have to be intimidated by her or this class!
Rust will prepare you more than any other teacher will. She is the hardest teacher but that will prepare you for the exams that everyone takes. Quiz averages stay around a 50 but if you study and work hard you can succeed. I would take this teacher again but be prepared because you will work harder than any other section.
I took Rust for Chem 1110 and it was a difficult class. Sometimes she moved too fast. I never did real great on my quizzes (they aren't worth a lot) but by the time I got to the hour exams, I did pretty good (80's). The reason I am going to take her class again for Chem 1120 is because I can always drop by her office to get help.
We had study hall cookies. Thank you, Ms. Rust. CHEM1110 is a hard course! The exams are hard, quizzes are impossible, Aleks is awful. Cookies are good but this teacher is not good.
Do not take any class with her. She is awful. Her lectures are so tangential that she leaves no time for questions. Its like she takes pride in people getting C's on quizzes. Most quizzes had below a 70 average, with a few getting 50 averages. She is truly awful, do not take her. Avoid at all costs.
There was never a quiz where there was a passing average in the class, and she acted like she was proud of it. Only was I made an A was because she did not make the exams or homework. Also had a very strong background from high school. I beg all of you to not take her unless it is the ONLY option.
Just take my word for it.. DO NOT TAKE HER
It wasnt a good experience
This teacher was awful. She went so beyond the material that we should have learned. She seemed to expect everyone to already know most things so instead of teaching anything, she would just skim over the material. She went so fast that I was constantly playing catch up. So many exams that I never once felt prepared for. Do not take this class.
Her class definitely was not easy, but if you put in the effort, you will do fine. Her quizzes are harder to make sure you really understand the content, and therefore the exams seem rather easy compared to the quizzes. She is always super helpful and always makes time to make sure you are doing okay and understanding the content.
She is very nice and approachable, but it was difficult to sit through her lectures. She spent more time on the easy topics than the difficult and complex ones where more guidance was needed. She is also a tough grader and makes the weekly quizzes too difficult to "prepare" you for the exam which was easier. The quizzes made me very stressed.
Quizzes are brutal to "help you learn", but she rushes through her lectures so you dont learn anything. You're required to purchase an Aleks subscription in order to complete the homework. These homeworks are always hours long, and you're on your own to figure out how to complete them. The class consistently averages 40-50% on quizzes and exams.
I came into college with a very strong chemistry background because I took AP Chem. Prof. Rust has undone everything I learned and thoroughly confused me. The quiz averages are typically in the 40s. She does not explain the content in a way that is clear at all. Attendance is mandatory. Just don't. I hear Dr. Amanda Carroll is the best option.
Makes homework overly difficult and throws in busywork in the form of "chapter assignments" that are hardly relevant to the material. Quiz averages for the entire class of 100+ students were consistently ~60% or lower. She waited until the end of the semester to grade assignments, so you never know how well you are doing in the class.
Taught way beyond what was necessary for the class content and acted as if most of us weren't in there for a lab science credit. Also took a lot of pride in near everyone failing her quizzes, which were far beyond what we would ever need to learn so we could "really know the content." I found better success learning the content outside of class.
I have a very strong background in chemistry and struggled with her class. She is an amazing person. But, as a professor, she lectures as if you should already know the content. She goes so fast, I had to teach myself. It takes forever for her to grade, and her quizzes are almost impossible to pass. If you can, take someone else.
I only missed 4 classes. She claims she is always available yet she never was and if you sent her an email your lucky if you get a reply the next day. She seems like outside of work she is happy yet at work no she is just rude most of the time. Her test are way harder than needed the phrase, "nothing we learned is on the test," she makes it legit.
You would be much better off taking literally any other professor
Quiz average was ALWAYS failing. Listen to the other reviews and simply do not take her. Quizzes were online, but the deadline for the quizzes were before the deadlines for the homework over the same material. Sat front row, and remembered nothing because she is a BAD lecturer. Learned literally everything from ALEKS. Trust me, bro. Do not take.
I feel like her approch to lectures make it terrible to sit through.I never learned anything in this class, and I have had a terrible experience the whole time I have been in her class. Before I took her class I heard she was bad, but I never could have dreamed how bad it was. Definitely would recommend literally any other professor.
no not for me
Just do the work and you'll do fine. She is always willing to help you if you are struggling. Would take her again, but you have to actually attend class and study.
Avoid this professor if possible. While she's a great person, her teaching style is incredibly challenging. Lectures move too fast, quizzes are nearly impossible to pass, and the workload is intense. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for preparing for this class.
She is a very harsh grader. Her quizzes are harder than the exams. The way she teaches is not my favorite cause she just does not explain half the things we need to know. Half the time I have to watch videos outside of class to actually understand what we are doing.
Outside of school, I think she can be very sweet and understanding. As a professor, she requires daily attendance in lectures. Attendance is one of three points available as participation for the day in class, the other two depend on your ability to answer an in-class problem with no help in usually less than 5 minutes.
I promise you that she does not want you to learn and understand the material; she wants you to suffer and develop self-esteem issues. On the last day of class, someone asked her why we still have so much carbon-14 left if it's half-life is 5,730 years. In so many words, she said it was because the Earth was only 6,000 years old. Don't like her.
!!!AVOID AT ALL COST!!! CHAOS. Hard for no reason, late work punished like a felony, and those evil 3-point exit tickets tanked grades even if you showed up daily One point off? 66%. Like WHATT. She would teach something and quiz it 2 minutes later for attendance. I left every lecture confused, exhausted, and spiritually evaporated. I am OUT.
Her quizzes usually have a lower score than other professors because she gives more questions with less time. She does however give extra credit where you can get 3 points per week. The 2 assignments are harshly graded, and it is almost impossible to score anything higher than 2 out of 3 without an interpret song and dance.
