Madame is somewhat demanding but I did learn a lot. She is a little intimidating but VERY entertaining during class.

She speaks french from day one. You better want to learn.....she is tough but well educated on the subject. She is helpful and offers lots of extras.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Does speak French most of class, but puts up with a lot and is very entertaining. She keeps class fun, but you have to want to be there. I would definitely recommend her, but only if you really want to learn.

Great teacher, fun class, expects you to workk and speaks French the whole time, even though she says she speaks in English. Nice to everyone, even the idiots in the back. REALLY HOT, expecaially for a person her age, which we just found out and I don't know if I believe her anyway. A+

I took ALL the classes I could from her. She is amazing. I placed into a really high class at my university and my French is better than anyone in my class, except the native speakers. You learn so much and she takes the best students fo Paris on a field trip. Only for real students, not flakes.

I thought she was amazing. She speaks only french-so, you have to study if you want to understand her. She is passionate....lives what she teaches. I really like her. I'm taking her for all 4 french courses. The class is a lot of fun.

Professor Stewart is a smart, stylish, energetic representative of what learning a language can and should be. She is organized, prepared, and she works it during the entire class, even during 3 hour long evening classes. If you are serious about learning, go with Madame Stewart. If not, don't waste her time and that of your fellow classmates.

Madame is by far the best teacher i have ever had. she is very enthusiastic about the subject and wants students to be able to speak french not just pass the class. Her class is a lot of hard work but she is very helpful. I learned more in two semesters that I did in three years of high school french. Very fun class also.

Hands down best Prof. i've ever had. She is the most enthusiastic, loving, helpful and kind teacher ever known to man. She engulfs her students the world of french that keeps you wanting to hear more. Each class, it's almost impossible NOT to laugh once you leave because you're dieing of laughter from the wonderful french jokes and stories.

I absolutely LOVE PROFESSOR STEWART!! She's so energetic and enthusiastic about teaching, and she's always cheerful. She's funny and she makes learning very easy and FUN.

For the average student, whose main focus is to fulfil a gen ed... don't take her. I feel that she's way too intense, not only with the material but her personality as well. Shows movies at the end of class that I find useless. Seems to get frustrated when French isn't spoken up to her very high standards. Kind of flaky.

Just read the last guy's comments and couldn't disagree more. She's passionate, fun and dedicated. Shows the movies so students can see language and culture in context rather than just her voice.

I think this is the same teacher listed under just "stewart", but she got married a while back...anyway I just adored this class and I took it only for gen ed requirment and now I'm gonna take all her classes. VERPY VERY into teaching and even more into US LEARNING. It was an 8 week summer term, so it was really hard but I just loved it!

She is one of the most understanding and passionate teachers that I have ever seen!Her knowledge of the french culture and language is outstanding!She shows an interest in what you say,in french and english!I also agree about the movies.They were a great tool to show us real culture & vocab.But don't miss any class because you'll fall behind fast.

She is the best professor I have ever had in any subject. She makes learning french fun and class just flew by. She really teaches in a way that makes you realize that you can learn french and actually use it. She encourages you to find other ways to improve your french - movies, french radio, etc. She was the most motivating teacher I ever had.

Loved this class. We learned about art, music and French stories. We had so much fun and she knows so much. I wish it had a part II. Pretty easy grade A if you just do the work and come to class.

Madame is a phenomenal professor and person. This is my third semester taking her. At first I just ended up taking French on a whim to fulfill a transfer credit, but now I plan on minoring in French. She conducts the class in French from day one and the amount of English she speaks decreases as time goes on. Expect to work hard and have fun!

Had her for first two French classes and she used the same textbook (Points de depart- I got mine for half the price at craigslist). She is absolutely great and I love her energy, and passion. It was not difficult for me, but others definitely needed to work. But all of the effort is worth it because of her awesome teaching style. TAKE HER!

Madame Stewart is an AMAZING prof. Be prepared to work HARD. This class is not a blowoff course by any means, but at the end of the semester when you can speak and understand French after only one class, it will pay off. I've taken all of madame's classes and will be applying for grad school in a year to pursue a masters in 19th Century French Lit.

I seriously love this Mrs. Stewart-Hoffmann! She is such an amazing teacher and she realloveswhat she teaches which makes it so much more fun to learn the material. I would reccommend her to anyone!

She's passionate by French, very enthusiastic. I had her class in the evening, but her liveliness kept you awake. She's awesome.

She is seriously my favorite teacher of all time and it only took one semester for me to figure that out. She is such a helpful teacher but still expects college-level material from her students. She really loves what she does and you can tell because every class is so much fun and you want to learn the material which leads to an easy A!!

Have learned more in this semester which is about half-way over, than in 4 years of high school. She's pretty entertaining and dresses like a fashionista so the visual is good, too, which doesn't hurt.

High octane, fun, smart, intense, pretty, demanding, professional, high expectations, no use for lazy students. You need to study or she'll take you down! If you DO study, you'll have the best class of your life. I can see how a lazy student might find her overwhelming. I love her. But I study!

I took this survey class wher we learned about art history, music history and French stories. The French stories are a snore, but the rest of it is AMAZING and she KNOWS HER STUFF. And she is fun. And she is stylish, young, energetic. AND you can get an easy A!

She is without a doubt my favorite teacher at OCC. The class is a lot of work, homework, class work, studying REQUIRED. She just released an on-line lab that wasn't available when I took it. You can see it on YouTube. She is really really REALLY good, but prepared to work VERY HARD. If you don't want to work, don't bother.

This is my favorite class in my whole life. We listen to all kinds of music and talk about art and watch movies...no FILMS (lol!) Yesterday we got to debate each other about a French short story. Who would've ever thunk it? lol! Lil' ole me reading a French short story and having something to say. She doesn't know the rules of debate, tho. lol

This professor is awesome. If you take the time to practice and do the online homework, you will pass the class with flying colors. Practice, practice, practice. Prof. Hoffman is a nice teacher and would recommend here to anyone.

Best teacher at OCC but no easy grades.

I loved the class. She is full of energy and makes it interesting. She lets you know what's on her mind and will give you the grade you deserve but she's awesome. I respected and shared many of her views. Best French teacher at OCC! She also has great style and always looks cute. I wish I could take the next class but I have to focus on my degree.

Absolutely loved this class. Kathryn is an extraordinary person and I always left her class inspired and optimistic. I have never had a teacher so passionate about what she does. I recommend taking any of her classes and experiencing yourself.

I really liked Madame and thought she was hilarious. She never berated anyone in my class but she did refer to mistakes that other unnamed students made but I think she does it so we don't make the same mistakes. I thought she was great.

I do think she's a pretty nice person overall, but she has random moments where she's really mean. She takes everything personally too, and lets it get in the way of her teaching/attitude sometimes.

Awesome teacher! Posts EVERYTHING on DesiretoLearn and reminds us of what is due even though it's posted. She is very "dynamique" and encourages everyone. She does have a sarcastic sense of humor but is certainly not "mean". I plan to take all 4 classes with her and hope to go to WSU like our SI who is getting a Masters BECAUSE of her.

I have tried many times to review her and all my comments were deleted. She is a good teacher but berates her students. She has publicly embarrassed students and is flat out rude on many occasions. Very smart and knows what she's talking about. Just don't expect to have a kind relationship with her.

LOVE this teacher! She tries to keep it in French and will do almost anything to help you understand. She will correct your errors in class so that may embarrass you...I have learned more in her class in 8 weeks than a year in high school.

Took French & Humanities with Madame. She is WONDERFUL! Very dynamic and intelligent. She will make you appreciate things you never thought you would before the 2nd week of the semster. She is belittling and sensitive but I dont think she means to be. She is the reason Im thinking of getting a minor in art history!

She is a ball of energy, inspiration, and intelligence. She is so beautiful and she is a passionate teacher. Her directions for assignments are extremely specific so make sure you read the directions for everything. Easy work, just a lot of it. I learned a lot in this class and it made me a more cultured person overall.

She makes learning fun. At first, I was terrified of her because she can be extremely sarcastic at times. She also yells at the whole class if someone does something wrong. HOWEVER, she is an amazing teacher. She's compassionate, gives extra credit and is very helpful. Also, she has an equally helpful SI who explains things in a really simply way.

Mme. Stewart-Hoffman is GREAT! Don't bother with her class if you aren't going to study. Do the reading, do the MFL, and make flash cards! Study at least an hour a day. She WILL call on you in class. She gives a lot of extra credit, and attend study group (I took her at RO). Put in the work, it's great. She makes it fun! I had no previous French.

J'ADORE MADAME! I've had about 5 different french teachers in my lifetime and she is the greatest one I've ever had. I learned more in one semester of her class than in 3+ years of high school. Her teaching method is very effective and she really wants you to learn. Her tests were not too hard for me (got an A on all). Don't stop at french 1 wher!

Once in a lifetime kind of teacher. But it's not easy and she'll push you. But there's a genuine tough love thing going on. Inspiring.

I skipped about 2/3 of classes and only did 50% of the weekly assigned online hw. Averaged 98% on exams, orals, and essays. Got a 70% in class. If you're not going to go to class and do the homework, don't bother registering. Excellent teacher. Top 3 french teachers I've ever had (out of 7).

I just am so inspired to keep on with French because of Mrs. Hoffmann. It's really hard for me. But I worked hard and did okay. She's very funny and nice. i would say that yes I r commend the class but it's definitely hard.

Madame Stewart-Hoffman is an awesome lady! She is hilariously funny and can be really really kind. She gives a lot of extra-credit work (Praise God) and teaches really well. My only problem with her ever- and I mean ever- is that at some times she can be a little bit high strung, a little prideful and a tinge snobbish. Other then that A+++++

Taking humanities was not my first choice, but after knowing Mrs. Steward-Hoffman was teaching, I began to love the course. Her hilarious personality and amazing notes/teaching skills made this class become a favorite of mine. She takes the time to put elaborate slideshows and notes online along with helpful emails/reminders. Highly recommended.

Professor Hoffman deeply cares about her students, she wants all of them to succeed in her class, and in the real world. She is a very friendly person, but can get rude if you come unprepared to class. Do all of the assigned reading before each class and you'll do fine! Attendance is a must in order to be successful.

She is amazing! Highly recommend her. She assign A LOT of papers but they are bearable. She gives out 1500 points but you only need 1000 to get an A. However, if you get on her bad side, she is not afraid to shut you down. Also, be prepare to class because you can get on her bad side quickly if the whole class is unprepared for the lecture.

Mrs. Hoffman is the sweetest professor I've ever had. She's super easy to work with & extremely understanding about how stressful college life can be, so she does a great job at always making class fun and educational! Great sense of humor & an awesome role model. Would definitely recommend her, not just as a prof, but as someone to get to know!

WONDERFUL TEACHER!!! You learn many things when you take Kathryn's class. I am headed to Italy this fall and was unaware of the beautiful art Kathryn has shown me. Now, I understand all of the artwork I will be able to see in person. Any teacher can do that in particular; Kathryn MAKES IT INTERESTING!!! Hands down would take again.

This is my second semester with Madame. I just love her classes! She is demanding, funny, insists on excellence from everyone and gives amazing detailed comments on your written homework. She is the real deal of college and I am so happy to have had her as my teacher. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to anyone who seriously wants to learn French.

Favorite class at OCC. NOT easy, but it's FRENCH!! She's great. Lab is online and very useful but you have to pay to use it.

Madame Stewart-Hoffmann is fun, energetic, and engaging. Never a dull moment in her classes. I've had her for both FSH 1500 and FRE 1510. She gives clear grading criteria and good feedback on your papers and exams. If you truly want to learn the French language and culture, then this is your professor! Teacher very good but Enlish not first languages so many papers many time. Receive A and love listening to tteacher and love going to art museum in Detroit, but many papers for A. Many works to do, but people who do works all get A if do all works. Love the teacher. very pretty.

Madame is seriously the best language teacher I have ever had! I just transferred to UMich, and my current french class is no where near as great as Madames! Of course, as it is a language class, you have a solid workload. However, her class is entertaining and you will learn a lot rather seamlessly! Love her!

I absolutely love her. She's so passionate about what she teaches, but you need to be prepared when you come to class. Lots of papers, but you become really quick at writing them once you do 2 or 3 of them. Easy to pass if you just put in the effort. She's so extra in the best way possible! She is an amazing teacher, very funny and a fair grader. In two semesters I have learned more French than English in two years. However, there are days when she's not in a good mood, but if you are prepared for the class, you're safe. I would take her again.

Took as an 8 week intensive class meaning we were in class twice a week for four hours. She kept it interesting and moving and almost everyone who started class finished. I learned more in 8 weeks than a year in high school.

Best class I have ever had because of Mrs. Hoffman. Huge amount of kind of easy writing. I think shes retiring next year so take her before you miss out. Seriously good class.

Sweet, caring, and down to Earth, Kathryn is one of the best professors I've ever had. She will make you fall in love with the humanities! This was an eye opening class. She does an awesome job of presenting art and music. Plus a trip to the DIA!

This is my favorite class! She is so smart and funny, and gives everyone the chance to get a A as long as you earn 1000 points out of 1500. Love that! Lots of documentarys and a few movies plus we are going to the DIA. So glad I took this teacher and class. I will definitely get an A in here.

Madame Stewart is one of the most passionate teachers Ive met life. She remembers little details about her students and pushes them to succeed. Shes very clear on her expectations and holds you to them. If you cant handle sarcasm, brutal honesty and showing up to majority of classes I wouldnt suggest her. Put effort in and you will succeed!

This class was a lot of work, a ton of writing and information to learn but it was very satisfying as well. The professor is very funny and easy to listen to, the class is fun and interesting to take and easy to pass because 1,000 out of 1,5000 is an A, but beware, if you don't want to work hard for your grade this class may not be for you.

Really devoted to helping her students pass and learn the course as well. The course load was heavy but it didn't seem as heavy as it actually was. She gives you chance and chance again to get an A in the class so it's really no one else's fault except your own if you don't!

Lots of hw on VHLcentral. I'm talking 50ish assignments a week&discussion boards. Put in the time and you will do great. I'd recommend going to SI and Madame S's zooms. Do yourself a favor and just stay quiet during zooms. Don't turn on your mic or use the chat box unless its an emergency question. She will scold you. But otherwise she is nice!
