The lectures are just for show, and attendance is only taken for a week or two. Notes are prewritten, and available for download before class, and students are left to their own fate. GO TO PROBLEM SESSIONS, and SI Session otherwise you WILL fall behind. This is a lecture style class and she's not going to be able to have much time for 1 on 1.

She's an okay professor. She'd be great with a smaller class, but not with one of 100+ like she's teaching with this lecture. Her tests are really hard because they don't match up with the PODs. And her notes are kind of scattered all over the board when she does write on the board. So, you never know where she gets a number when she does a problem

The class has a lot of material and I would highly recommend taking Asala's class if you wish to fully understand the information. It is a hard class with a lot of work, but Dr. Asala is very knowledgeable and always willing to help. My advice: stay on top of your work, do practice problems, and attend the help sessions and tutoring.

I thought after reading the good reviews, she would be a good prof but boy was I WRONG. Her class made me so depressed, the amount of work she assigns each week is damn near impossible to get done. All she cares about is getting through the material while everyone is burnt out and struggling. I wish someone would've told me this, DONT TAKE HER

I only had this prof. for a week before I decided to drop her and I am so glad that I did! Pls do yourself a favor and NEVER take her. The amount of work she assigns is ridiculous and obsessive. As someone who works part time, I just could not see myself having enough time to complete it all. Its a teach yourself class as she doesnt even lecture

Exams were super hard and always timed badly (right after breaks so we weren't really even relaxing during breaks). If you can take chem with any other professor please do so. Grading is super straightforward in this class. Grades don't really get dropped. Your grade is what it is and you have to work for it!! Good luck. You will need it.....

Asala is an abysmal instructor. The main problem with her class is the discrepancy between the examples gone over in class and the problems on the exams, which are ten times more complex. She explains concepts at a surface level then expects you to do almost all the learning on your own instead of actually helping students to learn. Do not take.

This class was supposed to be in-person, but she literally gave so much work before and after class online that her in-person lectures were pointless . She would post MULTIPLE 10-20 minute long lectures online for us daily to take notes before and after class. Her homework assignments were HARD, and her exams were even HARDER. You'll get burnt out!

Great professor, knows what she's talking about. Homework and class participation is important, grade relies on the 4 exams given. If you show up, pay attention, take notes, do the work you should be fine. Definitely challenging but that's what you expect with Chemistry. I would recommend her if you have to take more chem bc she knows her stuff.

DO NOT take this class. Goes over the bare minimum & does not take the time to explain problems in ways students will understand. Although this was fundamentals, students were being held to the standard of understanding concepts based on one or two problems. Passing exams is extremely hard due to almost no correlation to the "study guide" given.

I don't understand how this prof has such a high rating. This class is horrible; DO NOT TAKE IT! Spams you with videos for pre-class and post-class assessments. Would be fine... if here lectures were even remotely passable. But she doesn't explain anything and just gives you a flood of practice questions. And the test are entirely different too.

Dr. Asala is a wonderful, thoughtful, hardworking professor, has lots of office hours every week and stays over time to continue answering questions. Don't get me wrong, chem 2 is VERY DIFFICULT. This class requires a ton of studying no matter who you take, but I highly recommend taking Dr. Asala because she really cares!

Dr. Asala is a great but tough professor. My advice: attend her office hours and work out SO MANY practice problems. Her office hours are more like problem sessions. A few students attend and you can ask individual questions and she works them out on the whiteboard. It's not an easy A, but it's gen chem 2. That's expected. You can work for one.

I advise you to please do not take this course unless you have no other classes associated with chemistry. She gives out so much homework and expects you to know the material when you come to class. Honest Review; Asala herself is a GREAT professor and person and she cares alot, the chemistry department itself is whats horrible. Dr.Asala is very nice (but sassy sometimes) but is so smart that she fails to see what students get confused about & struggles to actually teach. Assignments are graded at a very slow rate by TAs, and many of the weekly assignments are advanced chemistry with little or no help/explanation from the professor so you have to figure it out on your own or learn from outside sources. I switched from 1251 because this class was "easier" yet received an even lower grade than I had before switching.
