Kathy is a very cool Art teacher! totally loves art and teaching it. Projects are very fun to do, as long as you put effort into it. And she's very laid back, loved the class, definitely recommend her!
Kathy is a very straight forward, fair instructor. Doesn’t make you memorize too much, only a handful of key images. Lots of extra credit assignments if you miss a quiz or an in class assignment. Isn’t the most dynamic lecturer, but is very nice.
Class was fun plus this instructor knows so much and clearly explains art concepts. Not too much memorizing as more interested in the hows and whys of artist styles and movements.
I learned so much about art. Kathy clarified the actual techniques and theories. Now I can look at a painting and understand and appreciate it. She opened up the whole world of art for me.
Very nice teacher. YOU MUST TAKE HER! super nice, she is always there when you need her help. NO HOMEWORK. her lectures are always very helpful, her quizzes are SUPER easy, you get to use notes. She has her own website which is super helpful and you can keep track of you grade.
I took this course during the winter session and found it to be pretty interesting. Despite the extreme fast pace, Kathy did a great job in keeping up with the pace. No homework, easy quizzes, and interesting lectures.
Very nice person, easy class but she needs to be a bit more prepaired during summer classes other than that she is great
I took Art 1A online in Winter session. it was an easy A class for me, she was not hard at all and was very organized.
These are great classes. This prof keeps the class moving, brings in new ideas, and is very clear with expectations. Can make an A in these classes!
Kathy is perhaps one of the sweetest teachers i have had in years she definently knows her stuff i would reccomened her is you are an art major
Kathy was very helpful and tries to help inspire you. She was great when you asked for help and she gets really excited about your artwork it wonderful. She's funny and sweet and i would tell everyone to take her classes!
By far the best instructor on the planet! Kathy has sooooo much energy. Kathy, "You changed my life" I give her an A++
I took her class online. She is very helpful and clear. I got 100% in this class. If you just read and follow instructions it is very easy and you will learn a lot. Art is always interesting to see, but through this class, you can learn to see it in a new light. I really enjoyed this class, so she is Higly Recommended!!
An extremely easy teacher! I think it would be almost impossible to get below an A in her class. I thought she was a fun teacher and have taken her twice now. However, I'm not a serious art student by any means, just someone who takes art for fun and because it is required. If you are like me, I recommend taking Kathy!
I took her class for the wintersession and she is the best art teacher. Actually she one of the best teachers at West Valley. The winter is a bit fast paced but she helps you through the way. She is very nice and responds to all your emails and discussions. If you do the work you're guarenteed to get an A. I would high encourage to take her.
Really stimulating class. I learned a ton about Ancient art. I'm so happy I took the class. I even considered changing my major. It's an easy class. An A is really do-able with 1/2 ass effort.
She's very fair with grading. There is an ample amount of work during summer but it is very manageable during the regular school semesters. You can learn quite a bit if you listen to the lectures but it is just as easy to zone out and play on the internet. You get what you put in to the class.
Great class, great teacher. Very interactive class. Gives background in design like graphic, interiors/architecture and object design.
I took her for art 1e and while I had no interest in design I did find this class interesting prof.Arnoldade this class interesting there is a work load however don't be fooled by other posts but it isn't a hard one
Pretty decent teacher for American Art Hist online. Syllabus and assignment due dates were quite confusing & I could tell that most other students didn't really understand what she wanted. Be prepared to do ridiculous amounts of homework, essays. You NEED the book. Very interactive w/ videos, websites, etc. Allows late work, which saved me.
Kathy Arnold is a very helpful teacher. She tells you everything that's going to be on the test and offers a lot of extra credit. I recommend taking her class. Also, she doesn't assign a lot of work.
her class is very easy. has her notes up on the website and what is in bold on her notes is fair game. she goes over all the pictures and vocabulary words. you get to use your notes on half of the test. take her
Sweet, easy, and helpful.
I took three of Kathy's classes and all got A. She knows how to boost the students both in quality of art and education. She also visually shows the types of assignment she extects from students so that students do not get confused like some teachers make their students. She is definitely a great teacher. just make sure to go to the class.
I took the summer online class. Homework packet, feedback, and discussion is due every week. It is self paced. Packets are based on textbook readings and are tedious. There is only one midterm, which is an essay. She gives out plenty of extra credit assignmens.
class is pretty straight forward fill out the study guides and memorize them, easy A. You do have homework once a week, but their easy also kind of doubt she reads them. The project is also easy its basically the homework and study guides combined, but you get to pick the art work. Class does get a little boring so bring something to entertain you
Fun class, this teacher is so nice. I definately recomend this teacher.
I love this professor! very easy, you get 150 pts just for going to class, so go! The 2 midterms are three art sculpures and fill in 1-8 for each, and a easy 5 paragraph essay on the art, very easy. You will learn so much and she is so nice! :)
took this class and it is very easy! she goes over all the pictures and bolds the one the ones that will be on the test. and gives you the information that you need to know about the picture. all you need to do is memorize it and re write it for your test.also there is one small project very easy though. take it. easy A, but boring class.
Great organized class, online. Teacher answers emails. I never felt lost. If you take an online course, take this one!Covers all American art, truly multicultural. You use the textbook a lot.
She is a great teacher, the class is very easy, easy homework and all the tests are based on the notes you take in class and on your homework. she makes art very interesting, i thought i was going to fail the class considering i don't like art very much but I passed with an A because she made it interesting!
Took her class online. Disorganized but super helpful.
This is the third course I've taken with Kathy and I love her as a professor. She's truly passionate about what she teaches and is always willing to help. Great teacher and I highly recommend her courses!
I really enjoyed this class. There is a ton of homework and reading though. I took the class online. As long as you are willing to do the time you will get an A. I also have a feeling she doesn't read your homework or papers. She rarely comments on them or corrects them and the grades come back too fast. Easy A, but lots of homework!
Professor Arnold is an amazing instructor. I needed a class to take for my art GE and I'm so glad i took her. Her class won't stress you out at all, while also making you more interested in art. Her tests aren't that hard. A few homework assignments, and if you have the book it helps a lot. It's a great class and not hard at all. TAKE HER!!!
Expected the class to be a breeze, but at least during the summer, it wasn't. Her angel channel is so cluttered and confusing for first few weeks, then you'll get used to it. 3 disc posts, 2 weekly quizzes, 2 weekly writing assignments, NO final. Easy class to get a 'B', will def have to put in the work for an A. Very understanding prof.925
Professor Arnold is a great teacher. I took the class online so I'm unsure how the class is in person. However, online it was very simple, easy to understand and she's an easy grader. You will have to right a few essays throughout the semester, but they are not too difficult. Highly recommended for an art class.
I really enjoy taking Kathy's beginning drawing class! She is a great teacher and super goofy and funny. I have learned a lot from her! Only weird thing is that she won't give anyone a 10/10 on a drawing because nothing is perfect in her eyes and every drawing can be improved. So.... you have to do extra credit. LAME! But she's cool :) Take her!
Kathy Arnold was a fantastic professor. She makes it clear in her lectures on what to expect on the tests. The exams are fairly simple if you study the images in the study guide. She also goes over the essay portion in class which is a bonus. Take her for Art History, you will not be disappointed!
This is the 3rd course I have taken with prof. Arnold and it is great course as always. Her directions and expectations are very clear. There is minimal work and reading. She is an extremely easy grader. If you just put in a small amount of effort, you will pass. Near impossible to not get an A in her classes. Excellent prof!
Kathy is a wonderful teacher, she had fun lessons in class to draw and helped when needed. She was easy to talk to and her class environment was very laid back. She was very understanding if you didn't get lessons. Very sweet person and fun class!
Art appreciation online class was pretty easy, even though there were many assignments. Follow her directions, and you should get 100% on every assignment. Length matters in essays and assignments, not so much content. you can find the quiz answers online. Don't buy the text books cause it's expensive. You only need it sometimes so usethe library's
VERY FRUSTRATING PROFESSOR. She was not very organized and a lot of the time seemed like she was guessing when she answered students questions. Also her requirements for papers and test are outrageous. And the instructions aren't very clear. Although the material isn't hard her teaching style makes it more difficult then it needs to be.
I loved being in Kathy's class. Her lectures clearly explain information for tests. She really does set her students up to pass her class, so as long as you show up to class it should be easy. You need the book for quizzes. Use the study sheets she assigns, you can use them on midterms. Attend class, take notes, study notes, and you will pass.
You will get an A in the class if you do all the work. I Just really wish she was a little bit more engaging. When I have a professor that doesn't demonstrate their passion for the subject I question my own interest in the subject. I felt like I could have read everything she said out of the book. Teachers are meant to do more.
Really easy class. Consists of 2 essays, a few quizzes, 3 art projects, and a few discussion posts. The work can be tedious sometimes but you should get an A on every assignment & she offers extra credit.
I took her for art 1A, I showed up every single day and then I had to miss one day for some personal reason. I missed the final, which she said was required, and I had an A and she gave me a B because she took points off my participation. For missing one day and the final. She doesn't say clearly what we have to do. She is very confusing. Not rec.
She grades way to easy but that doesn't help at all. Overall the class is boring. She doesn't make it exciting or anything. The final was a complete mess. She doesn't explain briefly what we're supposed to do. She confused the whole class and it was a complete waste of time. Advice: Don't take this class if you're not any type of Art major.
Loved this class!! Met a lot of other art majors so it was a cool environment. The content of her lectures was interesting and she showed some strangecoolmeaningful videos. Tests are easy if you take good notes (she lets you use notes). She's a sweet person and a great art teacher. This class changed my perception of design, it was much needed!
Don't take his class. After going to class I feel like I've learned nothing. It's really really really boring. She is ambiguous and seems to have no opinion on anything. Every art piece we analyze Is general and simply "might mean something but I don't know". It feels like she doesn't know anything...
Takes attendance on a sign in sheet so show up for most classes because she'll take points off . Tests are super easy if you follow her study sheets, lectures are confusing but she points out the important stuff to focus on for tests. Papers are a breeze and she usually offers rewrites.
I took Kathy for Beg Drawing and Design in Society. Super easy grader and a very sweet lady. Definitely encouraging and cares about her students. Always show up for class or youll miss out on a lot, and definitely dont miss the final, shell lock you out of the room!
I love this class! Ideas are presented clearly and time for discussions.
I am so glad I took this class! I was hesitant before taking an online class, but I am so glad I did. The course material is extremely easy to follow & she is great at responding to questions. You get your homework assigned every Sunday night & it is due to following Sunday making it easy to stay on track. Midterm & final were essay form.
Loved this class - it gave me a chance to better my drawing skills. Supplies are provided until you can get your own so that is a plus. Class has beginners and also students who have drawn before which also is a plus, can learn from each other. Teacher is friendly and easy to approach with questions!
I've taken many online classes with Prof. Arnold. She uses Canvas like a pro - well organized and easy for me to use. Non western art filled another one of my GE courses and also very interesting! This instructor is also great with feedback grading and email so you will never feel lost in her online classes.
Kathy is great! She is always available by email if you have any questions. Lots of reading, but you can get away with just using the textbook while taking the quiz.
Great class. Textbook really sucks but you need it for this class. No need to bother reading whole chapter but you want the book handy. Easy class and great teacher.
An extremely unneccesary load of work. I HAVE OTHER CLLASES YA KNOW!!!!
She's such a sweet person and a super easy grader. She reminds you of when assignments are due, which is good if you forget deadlines. Her assignments are not hard at all. I feel like some people might think she's boring because she talks a lot but I didn't think it was a big problem. I enjoyed her class.
The best online class I have ever taken!
Professor Arnold is a very nice teacher, she will give you lots of support. I took Art7 in summer and Art10 in Fall, both classes were short-term class, so assignments and tests will keep you very busy. However, if you follow all the instructions, complete your assignments and tests on time, you will pass.
Very sweet lady and the class is fairly easy but gotta say it's super boring. Got lazy taking notes halfway through the semester but still passed with an A. Use her online notes and the textbook to do the tests. Some questions you can find the answer on the internet. Easy A.
Organized outline & clear expectation for writing. Quick and responsive to e-mails. Gives suggestions for improvement if you hand in HW early. If questions on quiz are not clear, send her a note to explain your thinking. A wonderful class to take b/c it covers interesting material and has an encouraging teacher. This class has a field trip.
The textbook is definitely necessary for quiz answers, quizzes would be impossible without it. The class was an easy A. There was only one essay and it was not difficult. Instructions/grading criteria can be confusing but overall everything is relatively easy. She gets back to students pretty quickly.
Its easy, I guess, in that theres a lot of opportunities, and all written work is based on length over anything else. Quiz content is based on chapters of book but on off hand, seemingly near irrelevant details not covered in her mile long slide presentations. modules are organized in confusing ways.
This was a great class for my Arts GE. Great organization of online class, best ever of all online courses I have taken. Uses Canvas and Modules. Instructor is very easy to reach with questions.
I loved her class, I was a bit nervous since it was my first online class but it was a chill online class . Although she does give you a good amount of work, she uploads the assignment ahead of time so you have plenty of time to do them.
she is the worst teacher I have ever taken at WestValley I was unfortunate to take her the first year she was hired. she is the worst lecturer ever she wanders off and never gets back on topic. she is the teacher from Ferris Bueller when they call for attendance their's no life or excitement in that class there's only three exams and a final
This class is in winter, so 16 weeks class become 3.5 weeks. do not have to read all of the textbook, for professor will upload her notes of the textbook in PowerPoint. Every Sunday will be the due day of homework. Only one essay in winter semester. But it requires us to visit the Asian art museum in San Francisco, and then write essay. Easy A.
I took Art Appreciation to get my general Ed done. There was about 4 assignments per week. This was a shortened art class. It was a little bit of work. She does a good job of giving you good feedback. I would recommend her. There is one midterm and a final.
she is the worst teacher I've ever had she goes off lecture and talks about different topics her tests are supposed to be based on lectures in class but most of the time she adds works of art she never went over. her directions for any assignment are not clear and she never gives clear direction. her class was a waste of time.
Professor Arnold has a clear structured class that is enjoyable! You basically have little assignments every week due every Sunday , and they're given to you ahead of time so you have plenty of time to finish. Theres small 10 point quizzes each week, but they're very easy to do if you simply do the assignments. Great class!
Just an easy class all around. There are quizzes in which the answers are given in the textbook and in her slides. Besides the quizzes, there are some other minor assignments. There are two essays. Both super easy, worth a lot of points. Don't worry at all if you took an art/photography class in high school. You will get an A
Kathy Arnold is a sweetheart. I am not a morning person but having her class at the start of my day gave me a good start. Her instructions are sometimes confusing but she will be more than happy to explain it to you. Her lectures and slides will make it easy for you to remember information.
Took this class online during the summer to get ahead on credits and it was super easy. She's very clear about what you have to do. She gave us the whole week to complete the assignment but it usually took just a day to complete everything for the whole week. A good class to take if you're just looking to fulfill requirements for transferring.
Theres a good amount of work assigned each week but only takes up maybe two hours per week. Quizzes are easy, everything is open note and all answers are in the textbook and on the slides. GET THE TEXTBOOK or you wont do well. Very clear grading criteria, follow it or youll get points taken off. One paper due and its easy. Take this class!
Kathy is the best instructor at West Valley! She's so nice, considerate, inspiring, and takes time with looking at different art pieces and her work is amazing. I'm so grateful that I was a part of her beginning drawing class, hopefully I can take another course with her. I learned from her that you can be universally creative with your art. :).
Kathy is one of the best professors I've had. Her layout for all of the modules and homework are extremely organized. Although there is are many assignments that are due in a short amount of time, each assignment is explained clearly, which makes it so much easier to complete! I'd take this class again for just fun lol
Took Prof. Arnold in the summer, and she was amazingly nice and caring. The class was very easy (my final grade was 100%) but I feel I didn't learn as much as I would have liked to. The class is based on video discussions, some other writing assignments, and an essay midterm museum visit and final. No tests. The material was pretty interesting.
Arts 1E is an easy class if you need an art fulfillment. very straightforward and easy assignments for online, mostly watching videos and making comments on them. small project based on an influential design is easy because she is not a harsh grader. If you are like me and don't want to do a fine art class, this is the class for you.
I was in her online asynchronous class, it was super easy to pass. She posts a couple videos and you have to write discussion posts. Projects are super easy and doable. Midterm project and final were a lot easier than i had expected. Easy grader, just show effort. I did the minimum and finished with a 97%.
I took Professor Arnold's winter session of Asian Art. I took the class as a for fun, GPA boost. Honestly, if you keep up with the reading (easy read and very interesting book), the class is no problem! Just know that nothing is weighted, so the 100pt essay won't really offset a couple missing assignments. She is easily accessible by email.
Prof Arnold is nothing but nice. I took Asian Art not really knowing anything, but this class made it super easy and fun to learn about different art pieces. I wish the class was in person because I would have loved to talked to her about art.
I took her class over the Winter quarter. Do everything and you can definitely get an A. It did feel like a lot of work but that's expected from a four week class. Short 1 sentence discussion posts, two attempts on quizzes, and an easy essay. Kathy is clearly passionate about her subject and was really interactive for an asynchronous class.
Professor Arnold is very sweet. She replies to all your assignments with feedback and will make sure that you are aware that she is reading your work! Her class is pretty easy, but I learned a lot of cool stuff that I didn't even know about art!
The class was easy, most assignments are discussions graded for participation. She does require two papers for a 3 credit art course that are fairly long (9-10 paragraphs) but she understands that sometimes writing can be difficult if it's extended. She's very caring and lenient, plus she responds to emails promptly. I'd highly recommend her!
Professor Arnold's Art Appreciation class was great! The workload was very manageable. The videos and readings were interesting and provided a clear, easy to understand overview of art. She responded quickly to emails and was always willing to help and support students. Definitely recommend!
Super easy classes. Lesson plans, grading criteria, test content, etc. were very easily accessible and clear cut. Uploads all lesson slides to Canvas. Available outside of class. I learned a lot about art, and I didn't want to learn about anything so that was p sick.
She is an AMAZING Professor! She gives feedback and strongly encourages questions and everyone to interact in class! The requirement is very small - just need to post a short insight/sentence about a particular artwork! She encourages everyone to learn and appreciate art! I would definitely take her again!
took design in society in fall! mostly lectures in class, simple discussions and activities each week to do based on lectures and videos. 2 tough-ish big quizzes, but all open note! 2 good size research essays 1 group project video presentation for final Kathy is super sweet and lovely, its not a difficult class if you do the work :)
Took her Art of Asia class during the winter session and even in just four weeks, the work was minimal and easy. Mainly consisted of watching a 5 minute video and then writing a sentence in response or finding a piece of artwork and posting about it. Easiest class I have ever taken and genuinely learned a lot. Take her class.
I took this class as a winter course and it was not nearly as hard as I expected it to be. It was fully online but she gave very descriptive and clear instructions and the work moved like butter, the assignments were frequent but that is expected in a winter course, but ultimately it was an amazing course and I am glad that I took it.
As long as you do the work assigned and try your best, you will get the grade you deserve. Professor Arnold is accessible outside of class and offers some extra credit. Highly recommend!
Very fun and accommodating class. Kathy was so nice when I told her about my learning disabilities and helped me with midterms and the final. There's tons of homework but it's so worth it.
I took The Art of Asia as a winter class and found it to be so laidback that I could have easily knocked out a second winter class along side it. The lectures consist of a couple minute videos you must watch and discussion posts with no length requirement. She allows you to relax and just enjoy the art history like a great professor should.
Kathy was a very passionate teacher. Her assignments were easy, but unique. For our class, she had us do stuff like make a flip book animation or, for our final, visit a museum and research an artist featured for credit. Mile wide, inch deep run through of many different types of art. Interesting and uniquely challenging, would recommend.
Took this class over winter, workload was doable. Lots of videos and discussion posts. Quizzes are multiple tries but take different questions from the same question pool. Final is a museum visit essay (online museums ok too).
Just work, not hard. You'll be fine. Not very interesting to me personally, but very do-able as a winter course.
I had to drop Kathy's design in society class because it was just so disorganized. She expects you to do so much work outside of class its hilarious. When I brought her workload to her attention she encouraged me to use AI to condense her material. Disappointing. I was getting 100% in the class but couldn't keep up with her BS. ugh, no thanks.
Do it i got 107% you go it
Loved this class! All of the course materials are in Canvas 24/7. There is a worksheet instead of an essay. The professor is so organized with new material each class, no boredom. Two quizzes and one fun group project for the Final.
Kathy was a great professor. Her art history 1 class was very easy, as long as you attend and pay attention you can get a good grade on her tests. tests function more as reviews. Lots of textbook reading, but no other homework. She is very kind and loves to talk to the class. there are small extra credit opportunities. I would take her class again.
I loved Art Appreciation with Professor Arnold! She is such a positive and inspiring teacher. Our many assignments, included visiting an art museum, filling out an art comparison worksheet, and creating pieces of art. I learned a lot about art history and viewed a lot of fine art. It was an enjoyable course that earned me an easy A+!
Kathy Arnold is super sweet & caring! She loves teaching Art History. Class is mostly lectures with some assignments sprinkled in. Projects are big but easy, quizzes are tough but open book/note, & you can do corrections. Barely any homework, most can be done in class.
This was a very easy class, but instructions were often unclear and a lot of the assignments felt like unnecessary busy work. There's a lot of incredible art and good information in the lectures, but most of it wasn't new to me, so if you're passionate about art, you probably won't learn anything new.
Very kind and considerate professor. Passionate about art and makes it interesting to learn about.
Professor Arnold's class is a breeze! The assignments are creative and manageable. I found Unstuck AI to be a great study tool alongside the free class materials. Highly recommended for an easy, interesting art credit.
Took professor Arnold's Art Appreciation class over Winter 2025 and genuinely would take it again. She made art very interesting and there are a decent amount of assignment's each week but not to tricky. Two big projects assigned that are very manageable. Very caring, understanding, and passionate teacher that makes art interesting in fun ways!
I really like this professor and think she grades kindly. I'm not that great at drawing but I feel like I learned a lot in the class and have a better understanding of different mediums. The class is not hard, and she typically allows extensions for some assignments. I would suggest not buying the materials until the week before you need them.
I took this course during the summer, which is important to note because summer courses are usually faster-paced, but the class was extremely easy. It did take some time to watch all of those videos, but you had to write maybe 3 sentences per discussion post (5-6 per week). The final project is so easy. This teacher is also very caring.
