She is one of the best teachers ever. The work load is a little bit hard, but not unmanageable. She is extremely reasonable in her expectations. One of the most understanding teachers I have ever encountered. By far, the best teacher I've ever had.
she is a very engaging and knowledgeable woman... The class is pretty standard being that is one of the requirements, however, she made it more enjoyable and interesting. The more involved you are the more you can get out of the class and out of her.
This is the best class you'll take. Kathy's approach makes great books easy to appreciate and understand. The more you put into this class by talking to her and keeping up with the readings, the more you'll love it.
Kathy is the best teachers, and best friends I have ever had. There are no words to describe how wonderful of a person she is. Her class is great too; she makes everything really enjoyable. Never a boring moment with her! Kathy's class is a must take!!
i wish i could take bishop's class again. she took our whole class to starbucks the other day. shes one of the nicest teachers ive ever had
Really loved class with her. She's clear, entertaining and helps you to know your stuff. Her tests were hard but her grading wasn't overly harsh. Cultural has been fun with her because we can talk about our opinions on topics and learn.
Bishop is great. Class is fun and laid back. She tells some good stories, always relates things to the present with the occasional Jessica Simpson or George Bush anecdote. SHe is quite liberal, so if thats not your bag, watch out. I plan on taking her again if possible.
I am SO upset I couldn't get her for CulFou II. INCREDIBLE teacher. Makes what seems like really boring material fun and fresh. Lucky, lucky you if you have her.
She is amazing. She will make everyone in the class interested in the readings by drawing on subjects that everyone can relate to. you can have amazing conversations without even having read the material. she is awesome, probably my best gsp class. She makes you love reading, and love class.
i took her my 1st semester at nyu a few years ago, and she remains one of my favorite prof's of all time. she's amazing, smart, and fun. i had 104 average in her class b/c she makes you really want to know the material

I lovee this teacher. She makes the stuff soo interesting. And she teaches!! =) Awesome awesome awesome. i really hope I get her again. She's my favorite
Dr. Bishop was amazing. She used real life examples to explain what was going on with the material she covered. She understands that her class is not the only one we take and does not assign unreasonable amounts of reading. She is extremely intersting and knowledgeable. I would reccomend this class to anyone.
easy grader, easy class. she lectures, mostly but does try to get the students to talk once in a while. shes very considerate and id say lenient. seems not to care for grades much, just wants her students to learn
She is one of my favorite professors, and a mentor of mine. Very helpful, cares about her students, and tries to make class interesting. Not to hard of a grader, and is very fair when it comes to most things. She is a one-of-a-kind. TAKE HER CLASS.
Lecture style, moreso than other GSP classes. Workload is somewhat manageable...Really nice though. Highly recommend her!
Talk about an amazing teacher. Amazingly helpful and understanding. Fair to easy grader. She makes the topics so easy that you're really stupid if you don't understand. She tries to make class relate to the real world. By far my favorite teacher in NYU, we really need more like her!!!
Bishop is a great teacher, she cares about her students and the subject matter and always shoots down the smartasses. The class is mad easy too, I'd definetly recommend her
Very helpful, great lecturer, gives clear essays, assuming you study, midterms and finals will be reasonably easy. Keen wit, will keep you entertained, great professor.
she's great and you become so interested in whatever she is teaching. And she's funny
Cultural Foundations I and II professor. By far the best cult. professor in the department. I'm not going to waste your time with a description, they've already been written. I actually signed up for 2 semesters (cult. 1+2) with her! Highly recommend her.
The best teacher I've had so far- she's AMAZING.
The best teacher I've had so far- she's AMAZING. She's passionate about the subject and wants you to be too. SO SO understanding. For the paper, you can make up your own topic - i made one 2 days before the deadline and she gave me an extension. Easy A but you will actually learn. Even a group project for EC is optional.I'm sad to be leaving =(
by far the best professor i've had at NYU! so nice and classes are fun :) workload is okay, and you would actually look forward to going to class! she gives lots of hints about whats on the midterm and final.
Professor Bishop is AWESOME. She engages students in discussion, provides helpful comments on essays, and really tries to help you understand. She's an honest grader. She is really passionate about the subject she teaches, which in turn makes you really interested in it too! Who would have known I've come to like Roman art so much...
Like everyone always says, super great teacher. The material and exams arent so easy, but she makes everything so clear and extremley understanding. Go for it. VERY VERY Good grader, as long as you do decent work
By far one of my favorite professors at NYU!!! I actually wanted to come to her class! You dont really have to read the text because she goes over them in class. She makes everything seem easy! I only wish I was able to have her for CFII
Great professor :) very personable. Easy class!
It's all been said. Take her. Seriously.
One of the best at NYU. Very compassionate, kind, and fair. She is very knowledgeable about the subject matter, and knows how to convey that knowledge to her students. If you have the opportunity - take one of her classes.
Easy professor. Explains what you need to know in class for simple midterm and final. two essays (5-7 pages easy topics). Great in all ways.
Kathy is awesome. Puts ancient things in modern terms. Easy to understand. A stickler for grammar in papers, but if you have a solid idea then you'll get a good grade. Light workload and decent grade. She might be a little scary at first but once you get to know her she's fun! Starts great class discussions. I learned a lot from her.
Professor Bishop is amazing. She is genuinely interested in all of her students, structures all of her lessons/readings around what is interesting and relevant to student as much as possible. Always willing to help students outside of class. Not a fan of cultural foundations, but a big fan of Bishop's class, and Bishop herself. Two papers/Two exams
Bishop is like the female version of Woody Allen. She's so cool and knows how to engage a class. If you take her, its an easy A and you learn so much. She's always willing to help and her class isn't a lot of work (2 quiz, 2 essays, 2 tests). She's really approachable and loves when people participate. Take her and you'll love her!
She is just a phenomenal professor who is charismatic about what she teaches and truly engages her students. I have come to adore her open minded teaching style and she has always helped her students. She is a MUST. Love Professor Bishop! Work hard and you will receive a grade that accurately reflects your effort. =)
Very nice with a good sense of humor. Makes course material relevent to students and the modern world. The reading isn't too heavy--she only makes you read parts of most of the books. 2 papers, 2 exams (including miderm and final), 2 quizzes (VERY simple). Likes discussion and student feedback. Standoffish at first, but actually very approachable.

She was absolutely fantastic! One of the most enthusiastic teachers I've had in my freshman year & I had her for both semesters (CFI & CFII). Take her! You will learn and become interested in art and culture even if you are not.
Not the most brightest professor, but the class was incredibly easy albeit boring. Class discussions proved to be off topic and pointless.
Very good professor. Nice, fair, and helpful.
Easy grader, great teacher, and a really nice woman in general. She's a bit of a feminist, but she gives a refreshing perspective on history. Kind of standoffish at first but very approachable as the weeks go by. I would take her again in a heartbeat if I could. One of my favorite teachers that I've ever had. You will not regret taking her class.
By far my favorite teacher at NYU. She's a really sweet person, very clear when it comes to papers & exams, and always open to students' suggestions. Unlike a lot of other professors, she manages to make the assigned readings relevant to her students. That's why her class is so much fun. If I could, I would take her class again for CF III.
I love Kathy! She loves the subject she teaches and does a great job of making you like it too. She's Very straightforward so if you pay attention in class you'll do fine.
Voted top professors in nation by Princeton Review. She isn't the BEST teacher I've ever had, but she's pretty good. VERY understanding. Essays are easy peasy. Midterm was easy - I didn't read anything and I got an A. As long as you pay attention (which isn't hard, she's hilarious) you'll for sure get an A. TAKE HER.
Kathy is the EPITOME of what a professor at a prestigious university should be. She lectures in a way that gets your attention, her assignments are SIMPLE and ALWAYS CLEAR, she's easy on grading if you actually try - and you end up getting the grade you TRULY deserve. Take her if you can!
professor bishop has been my favorite professor since arriving at NYU. I was excited to attend her class and she is the most amazing teacher. TAKE HER FOR CULTURAL FOUNDATIONS!!
I'm definitely taking Kathy again for Cultural foundations II. She's a great professor; she's so laid back and she really tries to make the class relatable and interesting for students. Definitely take her.
I definitely recommend taking her! Class participation is not necessary, but appreciated. If you go to her office hours (usually at Starbucks haha) you'll be fine. She's an extremely fair grader. Midterm was a but tricky, but easy. Her lectures are also really relevant to the modern world. Best teacher this sem!
Kathy is an amazing professor. I highly recommend her (if you can hit the "enroll" button first!) She makes you really interested in the readings and it's worth it if you come out of NYU with more knowledge than had before- your tuition money is going towards bringing you amazing professors like her at NYU.
Dr. Bishop was the best professor I have ever had. She is absolutely hilarious and engaging and taking her class was the best decision I've made so far in the LS program. She is a gem. Take any of her classes - beyond the fact that she is relatively easy, she is engaging and relatable and truly a character. I wish she were my mother.
Great professorsuper engaging and very passionate. Not an "easy A" class however. Her midterm was quite tricky. Participation encouraged. Two big essays for the class, some readings, and a midterm and a final. Take her if you want a nice and interesting teacher but you do have to work. She takes attendance out loud at the beginning of every class.
I love prof. Bishop! She's really sweet and is passionate about what she teaches. If you ask for an extension, she'll more than likely give it to you.
She's super understanding and assigns a reasonable workload (mostly reading & group projects). Participation counts & she takes attendance out loud everyday. I wasn't interested in the books, but she always had engaging lectures. 2 essays (5-7pgs), an easy midterm, & a take home final. Overall, an amazing class. I'm taking her again next semester.
Probably the best professor you could have for CFI. Kathy manages to effectively teach you the material and get you to work without the stress. She's not specific with reading deadlines as long as you get it done. She's funny in class and relates material to modern day. Midterm was tricky but the final was take-home, easy. 2 essays. Def recommend.
Kathy - as she introduced herself on day one - is an absolute gem. I am not an art history buff in the slightest, and to be honest it doesn't really interest me, but Kathy kept me engaged day in and day out. Her lectures are fun and lively and the coursework is very manageable. If you skim the reading, you'll be fine. Can't recommend enough.
Kathy is an amazing professor! I took her for CF 1 and HAD to take her for CF 2, she is just so good. She's very understanding of the problems students face and is happy to help out in any way she can. Her tests and papers are not meant to terrorise us but help us, and she is always willing to meet with us for any additional help (at Starbucks!)
Had her for CFI and CFII.. WISH I could take her for CFIII. She's passionate about what she teaches. One take home exam, one midterm, two papers - SUPER easy if you just put a little bit of effort. Also she's hilarious and super easy to talk to!
I absolutely adore Kathy! She's an amazing professor. The LS curriculum is pretty dull, but Kathy knows how to make history come alive. I'm going to miss office hours in Starbucks. Good luck in trying to enroll in her class; her class fills up quick!
Amazing teacher, always open about expectations, keeps students engaged and can be really funny. She applies the readings to modern day which makes discussion more interesting and tends to get more people involved.
She is the most understanding, kind, wonderful, and open professor. Student opinions and ideas matter to her the most. Her classes are always fun and interesting.
I really enjoyed class with Kathy. She made lectures interesting by including a lot of different types of sources. She likes when people participate so speak at least once every class.
Kathy is a great professor. She always tries to relate the hundred year old readings to the modern day. She is very approachable and really inspiring. However, she does not like lateness and attendance/ participation really matters. It is useful to actually read the books-- it will make the papers and tests easier.
This class is the worst, its all art history which is dumb. Tests are way too hard with how mediocre the information you learn is. I don't write reviews, but wanted to warn my fellow men.
The best prof ever. Super engaging and caring connects everything to modern day. Pass/fail quizzes on reading occasionally, super easy, and interesting essay topics. I highly recommend.
Amazing professor! Very accessible outside of the classroom. Two essays and a Midterm (which was pretty difficult) and Final (Take home). I would recommend taking her if you're looking to procrastinate in class.
I LOVE HER!!! She was my first professor at NYU and she really knows what she is talking about. She is understanding, hilarious and is extremely clear with what she expects from you. Only 2 papers and 2 exams, very manageable course
Kathy is one of the best professors you will ever have at NYU. She is funny, intelligent, and extremely knowledgeable. She explains things in a clear way. If you don't take her you're missing out!
Easy papers and interesting topics are covered in class, but the midterm was hard. Participation and essays are grade boosters. Final was take home, which was easier for both her and for us. Not exceptional, but still one of the best CF teachers out there.
Kathy is the BEST professor ever. SERIOUSLY, take her if you can! She is so caring + nice and her class is always so interesting. Most of her quizzes are pass-fail and you can easily get by without doing the reading, but I would recommend doing it because she loves when students participate!
Kathy was a good teacher at times. But I have never sat through such opinionated lectures before. I left a few classes almost in tears. She has a good heart and the material is easy, but if you are actually trying to learn I would stray away.
She's amazing. Sometimes she dominates class in that it is hard to participate, and sometimes she doesn't always respect your opinion, but she is passionate about her CF class. There's a lot of art history involved which is so-so, but it is otherwise very interesting. There are readings, a presentation, essays, and a midterm/final. Easy A w/ effort
I think I speak for everyone when I say that Kathy is loved and respected, but sometimes her lectures are one-sided. That said, she doesn't shut down other people and is caring for all students. Don't get on her bad side, though; she will help you if you respect her. Definitely would take her again.
Nice professor, easier to get a good grade with her. Make sure you participate, because she really likes to hear your opinion. Her essay topics are not hard, just get them done early because they are long. Lecture can be kind of boring, but TAKE NOTES for the final and midterm cuz those are hard. Put in some effort and you'll get at least an A-
reading quizzes are P/F. essay topics are pretty simple. exams are take home, but extremely difficult. content tested on exams is barely covered in class. art slide shows can get boring. kathy is super nice and patient but I am not sure how much you will really learn from her class. not much work overall on a daily basis, but beware of hard exams
Words cannot express how much I love Dr. Bishop. Her classes are always engaging and she's hilarious. Super approachable in and out of class. The material is also interesting and she loves hearing what YOU have to say. TAKE HER.
This was my second semester with Kathy and boy did she deliver again. Even now that we were on Zoom, she made sure to always listen to what we had to say, and steps in only if you're totally wrong. However, the tests can be a bit tough since the things we discuss in class aren't always "directly" helpful to answer the midterm and final questions.
Professor is really kind. She wasnt the best teacher in my opinion because there was a lot of reading to do. Dont get me wont, she is a good teacher and she even moved our midterm because of the election. Theres two essays ( 9th more than 5 pages), one group project, and mid+final. Shes a good teacher so go for her if youd like. Nothing bad.
She seems tough at first but she is a very lenient grader. No need to do the readings or participate in class, just put effort some effort into the assignments and you should get an A.
I took Kathy's class for both Antiquity and Crossroads. The class was easy and is made up of two papers, a midterm, a final, and usually some kind of group project. She was a fairly easy grader, but you do have to put effort in. Participation isn't necessary as long as you show up and do the work. The lectures were usually funny and interesting.
Professor Bishop is really a gem, as she really cares about you as a student. I loved her teaching style so much and she makes the classroom a really comfortable environment. Her class is super engaging and she has a way of making the material really fun to learn about. If you can, definitely take her because she really wants you to succeed!!
Super fun class with entertaining lectures. Not a huge workload and she'll help you whenever you need
two test, two essays, presentation and quizzes such a hard class dont recommend, super hard grader
such a hard grader
She's a hard teacher, I'm not sure at all whats happening in class. Super not organized. If you miss one specific thing she said in class then your grade on the test will be a B. Dont recommend
You cant pay me to take this class again. Shes such a hard teacher and super hard. Her class makes no sense. If you forget one small detail say goodbye to your A. I have no clue how she has such a high rating.
Such a hard teacher. Will randomly do quizzes on readings and is not helpful outside of class at all. No idea what I was getting myself into when I signed up for her class. Super unorganized and super strict
Lots of work in this class and super hard grader. Dont recommend. Take someone else if you want to actually learn something
Dr. Bishop was good, some of the lectures were a little boring but as long as you do the assignments you'll get a good grade. There was a lot of reading and she is not the clearest grading criteria especially on the essays. One group presentation, it is pretty laidback but just make sure you know the material! Overall would recommend.
I love Dr. Bishop, her lectures are always interesting and detailed. Had one easy group presentation, two papers, and three tests. Doesn't give the best feedback, but you can always ask her for detailed feedback. Just read the books and look over your notes, and you'll be fine. She really does care about her students, totally would recommend!!
I really adored class with professor Bishop, even when it got lecture heavy. She genuinely wants to see you do well in the class and gives you the test topics (and some of the answers) before the tests. She's willing to change the essay prompts so you can write about what you want. I cannot stress this enough, she is so kind!
Her class reminds me of middle school: no space for critical thinking and you are required to memorize everything that has talked about in class, and things she talked about are useless and boring. I bet she knows that her classes are boring so she would force to remember everything she said and test you on these. Complete waste of time and money.
Tough grader but everything is online. You have to go to the met once in the semester, id say take her she's the best of other professors. You'll have one group presentation.
she yaps all damn class its really really boring but shes a diva at times. we read a lot of books and have a group project/presentation which was easy; all tests are online and long answer, we have two big essays she's a tough grader on those; a mix between art history and like literary history; overall class is super easy A take her!!
