I was so worried about taking Chem because I am not a science person but Kathy made this class so much fun, that I breezed through with an easy A. If you like a professor to do demonstrations, and sing/dance, and tell jokes, this is a good class to take!

She is good, very organized...students like her...The good thing about her is that she demonstrates the concepts through her experiment and that helps the students, who are not having chemistry background...

VERY organized!!! She is a very good teacher who gives lots of fun demostrations and sometimes goes over things too much... but at least you learn it! She is not a push-over though. Get your work done on time and show up for class!!!

I was not looking forward to taking a Chem UP, but the class was really fun! Such a cool lady. Great teacher and very detailed. Makes the class not feel like a lecture class. I hope I am in that great of shape at her age!

I didn't learn a thing in high school when i took chem and physics, but this lady makes it fun. She is pretty strict on handing in assignments, and you have to go everyday to get a good grade, but i found it easy to want to go. Great prof.

She has a way of keeping you interested in a 2 hour lecture, whether it is blowing things up or dancing, she can apply anything to her lectures so that you can understand it.

She's awesome! I wish she taught all of the chemistry classes.

She makes everything that you learn very easy to understand..got an A. She also makes everything fun..she plays movie and song clips, has awesome experiments in front of the class, and even dances around...makes the 2 hours fly by.

She relates her chem class and lectures to the real world. She's a great prof and would recommend anyone to take her. Go to class + do the labs + do assignments = A (easy). She excited about what she's teaching, does great experiments and makes it a lot of FUN!!!

Yes, her class is easy, but I hated Chem and saved it for last, and I still find the tests to be extremely difficult. I study my ass off for them and havent gotten above a 70. Word of advice: Even tho you can miss two days of labs DONT, you will get so far behind on notes its not funny. Take her tho

This is a fun/easy class. Kathy does fun experiments and relates her lectures to realife events, good teacher and always excited about class. Exams aren't easy but not hard if you study. Gives extra credit opportunities and labs are not that difficult. Even if you have never had chm take this class.

The experiements were not fun, they were tedious. She is kind of annoying too. She's as nice as anyone, but she can get on your nerves.

Blystone is very helpful if you go to her office hours, but overall the course work wasn't as easy as I expected. Probably the most difficult 101 class I've taken.

I wasn't very good at chemistry and she was a great teacher. She helped me learn a lot and I did very well in the class. Just make sure that you go to class and you will do great.

This class was pretty boring. Lots of notes. Must go to at least 13 labs to pass. Two homework assignments. Extra credit was given towards the end of the semester. Relates CHM to real life stories. Study guides were given for tests. Tests were a little challenging but not too bad if you study

This class was easy. I have never taken CHM before and I'm sure to get a B. Blystone is an awesome professor. She teaches the subject so well. Definitly take Blystone!!

If you go to class and pay attention this class isn't bad at all she is a good teacher and if you ask for help she is always in her office during office hours. The class isn't as bad as they are saying and there are some really cool experiments that she does in front of the class. I am getting an A however I tried. Take the class its not that bad.

Though Kathy isn't always the most personable with students, she's a great Chem prof. She makes it much easier than it is. Though her tests are SOMEWHAT difficult, she gives great notes and references to use before taking the tests. You can tell she loves Chemistry in the way she teaches it.

Extremely easy class and she is a very enthusiastic teacher. She gives you real life examples that make the subject matter more interesting. However, one-on-one with students she is not very nice at all, so avoid asking her for help if you can.

Kathy is a great prof. She loves Chemistry and she makes it interesting by relating it to real life and doing cool demonstrations. The class is a little difficult but as long as you go to class and take good notes, it's not that hard. And DO NOT buy the book, you never use it. I would recommend taking Kathy, at least for CHM 101.

Great class. Keeps students amused and uses comparisions we can relate to. You have to go to all but 2 labs, but they are very very easy and most are done in 20 mintes. I would totally recommend her for any chem class.

Very easy class if you have any basic chem background. Don't buy the book, you'll never open it once. You are required to buy the "workbook" but its not that much $$. Kathy explained things well and offered extra credit throughout the semester. If you're looking for a U.P. filler and have taken Chem in H/S I would reccommend taking 101 w/ Kathy.

I never took chem, and i'm not going to lie, it was a bit tough on me, BUT... This prof is fabulous! She has the best lectures with fun demos int he middle to wake us up from the lecture (not this its boring but, it is still chem). there are assignments due at the beginning of class so BE ON TIME! but other than that, the class is great. NO TEXT!

Don't buy the book, you'll never use it. Super fun and energetic lady. She relates a lot of chemistry to every day life. Never taken chemistry before and got an A with little effort. Highly recommend Kathy, she makes chemistry extremly easy.

Kathy is a really nice teacher and very helpful! She made chemistry interesting for us with items in the news and really cool experiments (exploding pumpkins anyone? torching a desktop? how does it get cooler than that?!) Whenever I asked her for help she was always very understanding and nice. Make sure you go to class. I highly recommend her!

Kathy is an AMAZING teacher. I hated chemistry in high school but she made it so fun. Classes aren't mandatory but you'll want to go and if you don't you'll get lost quickly. AWESOME! TAKE HER! Gives out lots of extra credit if you go to class. Labs are easy. If you study and GO TO REVIEW sessions you will do fine. Review sessions=gives you answers to questions on exams!DO NOT BUY BOOK. There are a few points on labs u wont be able to do...but just ask a friend. SUCH A GOOD CLASS! I LEARNED AND GOT AN A!

She is my favorite professor so far at CMU. She loves to teach and is so enthusiastic every day. She finds a way to make chemistry enjoyable and you have a lot of hands on simple labs. The class is very easy to get an A in. In her class a 90% is an A and she also gives out tons of extra credit. I had a high enough grade in the class that I did

She explains everything really well with really good examples. Does cool experiments all the time. Go to class on "Lecture Only" days! Very enthusiastic prof! All subjective exams, make-up exam at the end of the semester. Really makes everything is covered top to bottom in lectures. Fun explosions and experiments, easy to listen to. Would take her again.

She was really great! She does really cool demos and is really passionate about chemistry. She lays out the semester on the syllabus and sticks to it. Make sure you go to class, you can only miss three labs. She also offers a make up exam at the end of the semester. She is really great and I recommend her!

SUCH an easy class! ALl you need to do is go. It's very interesting, she does a lot of experiments.. she can say offensive things sometimes but overall she's a good teacher. DON'T buy the book.. you never use it, all you need is the lab book!

She is a very nice lady. Really energetic and passionate about chemistry. Make sure to go to every class, do all you prelabs, and the labs too. This will help your grade a lot. She also give extra credit randomly. If we didn't have a lab one day we had a 2 hour lecture... that is not fun, get some coffee that day, you will need it.

She designs the class for kids that don't like science which was awesome. If you go to every class and do the labs and prelabs and do half way decent on the exams u will very easily get a b+ or higher. i got about 78ish% on all the exams and still passed with an A-

Wow, this prof was great. She organizes class well, and doesn't go too fast. Labs are demonstrated well and there was never a confusing moment. Connects what you're doing to real life, and isn't afraid to apologize for mistakes.

Kathy is great she loves science and goes slow enough to make sure you understand what is going on. Her exams are hard but if you do well on your labs you have nothing to worry about. Overall shes very helpful and she understands that people dont all enjoy chemistry so she helps you out as much as you need

She understands that not everyone enjoys chemistry and that most just take the class to fullfill the U.P. requirement. I got D's on all my exams, but went to every class and did every pre-lab and lab. I ended up with an A- in the class. Getting used to the 2-hour class isn't bad at all either. I'm glad I took it with her. You will be, too.

She's great. Honestly, you don't have to be good at CHM to get the material. She explains it really well, and in terms we can understand and relate to. You DONT need your text book so dont buy it. But, always go to class. Its fun too, you do mini labs at your seat everday. I would recommend everyone to take her! :)

Blystone was very knowledgeable about the material and explained it in a way that non-science majors like myself could easily comprehend. She used lots of examples to make the material relevant to real-life, which was very helpful. I am not a science person, but I got an A because I took detailed notes and followed her rules. Has attitude. Not bad.

kathy is a great teacher, i never understood chem and was scared to take it in college because i did so bad in high school chem. Makes chem fun! Cool demos, stories, movie clips. She tries to relate to the students and is very funny. Do all the labs and you will do FINE. Gives extra credit and allows you to retake a test if you choose. Don't cross her though. Shes very nice otherwise and you can tell she loves her job.

She is a FANTASTIC teacher, not the nicest when it comes to dealing with the students. she makes eveything so clear though that I never had to ask questions. If you go to everyclass it would be hard to not do good. again, one of the BEST teachers I have had.

Fabulous teacher. The first day she tells the class she doesn't want to fail anyone. She makes the class super easy and the content very simple. She is very enthusiastic and has great demonstrations. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I failed high school chem but got an A in this class.

LOVED HER! I hate chem but I loved this class. The prelabs are easy and only take 20 minutes max. The labs are pretty easy too. She is funny and makes the class interesting. This class is almost 2 hours but goes by faster than my 50 minute classes. If you study for exams you will be fine! TAKE IT WITH HER!!

I took two years of chemistry in high school so this class was very easy for me. She explains everything and gives lots of examples. In class exercises are great study guides for exams. Make sure to take notes. She may go fast but the concepts are easy to understand. Great chem professor!

Not as easy as people say. She is fair but if you do not like chemistry like me and are taking it for a UP then don't expect an easy 101 class. There is a lot of time consuming work in labs and I got out late all the time. Not bad overall though.

She is such a good prof, you can really tell that she loves being there, and teaching. It might not be a blow off class, but if you show up, do your work, and pay attention in class you will do just fine.

She is a very energetic and fun teacher, and very good at teaching. The classes are long and they ARE mandatory, but it's not that bad, very little homework. The exams can be hard as well. Don't buy the textbook, her notes are sufficient.

Gives very good examples and does a lot of demos. I would suggest taking hand written notes opposed to typing them out, because does notes fairly quickly. You have to study hard for exams, this is not an easy UP class. If you've taken chemistry before and are good at it, I'd suggest taking it.

I never took chemistry in high school... so if I can pass the class with a B- then anyone can. Lecture is mandatory if you want a good grade. If you show up, turn in hw, do the labs, and do okish on the exams and you will pass. She is rude but knows her stuff.

Only fault I would say is she goes a bit fast on the notes, and the pre-labs are over things you havent learned yet, but I guess it prepares you for the lecture cause she knows we wont read ahead. I was terrified of CHM, never took it before but it wasnt that bad. Find someone and become friends in the class, attendance is mandatory!

Absolute best teacher I have had at CMU! She convinced me to change my major to Chemistry. If you are taking the class for a UP or you hate chem, as long as your go and take notes, you'll be fine! Demos are really cool!

This class is only easy if you get the hang of math and chemistry. You must attend every class, but Blystone is very good at teaching. Some days she is too fast, but she definitely explains the concepts throughly. If you don't study your heart out, then you might not do so well on the exams. Make sure you do all the prelabs and attend the labs.

This class is very fast paced, but Kathy is a good teacher. The labs can be confusing and they don't get covered very much. If you didn't take chemistry in HS, you might run into a little trouble. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class. She always goes over things again if needed.

One of the best professors at CMU. I hate chemistry but she taught the class well and does awesome demonstrations. Very clear and she even made organic chemistry make perfect sense. If your taking chemistry, you need to take Blystone.

Wonderful teacher. Sometimes she spoke a little fast and the board was difficult to read but she makes chem applicable to life. She knows we aren't chem majors and breaks it down. She offers review sessions and is reachable by email. Friendly, informed,easy grading. As long as you go to class and can handle a page of homework a day this is a breeze

If you took/know anything about chemistry, you will be fine. I feel like it is a high school level course. She is a great professor and repeats herself multiple times to drill her lesson into your head. She hates phones though, so dont pull that out if your a texting addict!

Blysdtone is an amazing professor. She is funny and explains things very well. I loved her. The tests are easy if you study. And she givesd extra credit pop quizzes which help a lot in the end. I would definetely take her again!

I really don't care for chemistry, but Kathy made it interesting. She found a way to make chemistry engaging and applicable to real-life, and you'll learn from this class. You definitely have to go to class, do the homework, and study for the tests. But the homework isn't bad and class is interesting. Pretty good for a required class.

She is very passionate about the subjects and makes it very interesting. She doesn't ramble and tells us what we need to know and doesn't include useless information. I wouldn't recommend buying the text book because you honestly don't need it. Overall, she's amazing and taking this class was an amazing experience.

Great teacher

The highlights of this class included Professor Blystone blowing stuff up and singing "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" to the class. She's so much fun and the class isn't very difficult if you try to do well.

EASY A IF YOU GO TO CLASS AND DO THE STUDY GUIDES! Kathy does some great in class activities and I really liked this class for a UP. Usually she lectures for 1 hour and then you have a 1 hour lab.Most nights you will have hw, but it is just a page of prelabs. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. It is worthless, just study the notes.

Make sure you go to class everyday because whatever she lectures will be on the exams. She is a phenomenal teacher and loves what she teaches and does a lot of cool experiments and tells a lot of relatable and cool teachers. The exams I personally thought were pretty tough, just make sure you study a lot and go to her SI sessions!

Kathy is one of my favorite professors at CMU. Only buy the workbook for labs (which are easy and help your grade,) you won't need the textbook at all. Do the study guides and take the extra credit quizzes and it's impossible not to get an A. Very fun class, even if you aren't interested in chem!

Kathy was the best professor that I've ever had at CMU. VERY hands-on which helps a lot and she's very passionate about what she teaches. Professor Blystone could possibly be the best professor at CMU. Very memorable lectures, always available for extra help, and an all around nice person. I wish Prof. Blystone taught more classes!!!

Exams are hard and she is very strict about phones and laptops it distracts from her lectures.
