Took the "at-home" section. She was SO helpful that a "5" isn't high enough. My two kids are taking it this coming summer, at my suggestion! She's fabulous.

Very nice and informative. Uses overheads and explains if there are questions.
Mrs. Evans is a good teacher but her tests are poorly made up, and she is not very helpful when asked, especially in the Lab. Her tests are so ridiculous that by the time I'm done reading the questions, I'm not sure what she's even asking.
unfair
cares about herself not the students, smart students intimidate her
She teaches too much in a day, and expects us to remember. The exams are too far apart
Recites straight text book, does not teach, only knows one way to explain a topic, is self-important, rude & overbearing, likes to intimidate, 5-6 chapters on a test. Most do not understand her vocabulary, needs to teach masters level courses at a 4 year
This teacher's test were totally unfair and unreasonable. You could know her material completely and still do horrible on her tests. She teaches so fast you can not comprehend what she has taught.
100 questions on tests is insane, labs too rushed with no time to actually learn. Does not like to answer questions, condescending, negative attitude, poor teaching skills, seems to enjoy intimidating students, makes learning BIO a miserable experience.
hated this class. Loved Bio in high scholl, but she amde this class miserable. Tests are definatly too hard and she put's things on them she didn't teach.
Watching my money fly out the window isn't my idea of a learning experience. If arrogance was all you need to survive she would live forever. Einstein could have learned a thing or two from her. A true LEGEND IN HER OWN MIND.
if you want to pass bio, then take the course with mrs.evans. she is a horrible teacher and her tests make no sense. they dont include any info that she taught. dont bother taking it with her you will just waste your money
In the beginning it was hard to adjust to her teaching style, but I love the fact that she draws pictures to help concepts be clearer. She is a challenging teacher but when you leave her class you know your stuff. Thank's Kathy!!!
She was the absolute WORST proffessor I have ever had, even if you knew the material the tests did not make sense, she was horrible.
Open your mouth in class to ask questions not pass blame or whine about being challenged. You will do well. Incredibly knowledgeable. Helpful. One of the better educators going. Be ready to work. Grades earned, not gifted. Will go the extra mile for you.
Mrs. evans was a great teacher. She was very enthusiastic and seemed to love teaching. If you study you should do fine. The students who wrote neg. comments probablly didnt study hard enough. After all, this is college and not high school.

Refuses to give explanations with a condescending tone at times. Should show a little more respect for older students if not all students. If I had known her class labs were this disorganized I would have opted for another instructor!
Kathy Evans is a wonderful teacher. Biology is not an easy class. I wish people would stop confusing the professor with the material.
i lost my biology backpack.....
Excellent teacher, I'll never forget her @ vise versa. Tough but fair. You will come out of her class prepared for A+P. Thanks for the memories KME.
Very tough class. She fell behind in the material and layed it all on our heads to catch up. She didn't like questions either. She did loosen up at the end and give some free points but it was too little too late. And just to clarify things, I am not a disgruntled failing student....I got an A!
She did fall behind in her classes, but she gave extra credit for lab manual. If you studied you were good. She was helpful after classes. She pointed out key things for A & P and Micro. I enjoyed her.
Gets class off to a bad start but gets better. Confusing at first. Labs are HORRIBLE! Needs to relax a little bit. Knows a lot but can't seem to communicate it to her students very effectively. Weird teaching style. Overly structured, not very practical at times. Her labs are often 1 step ahead of lecture. Slavedriver. But still smart. Good luck.
This class is very hard! BUT if you plan on taking A&P,take Cathy!you will be glad that you did. she will help you if you go to her. If you choose to whine and not go to her, then you have no one to blame but yourself. She is an excellent professor and does care about her students. I am not a failing student, I got an A in her class. Study, study
Environment Web Course. Best class I ever took. The web stuff was interesting. Was quick to respond and answer questions. No issues at all.
she's lousy! what kind of teacher hands out extra credit & then counts it againist u if it's wrong? she does! her tests are very diff., she makes it hard to get any extra pts. if she hands 'em out. there's so much info- she doesn't know how to relate it to u in a clear way. her voice is like nails on a chalk board. avoid this teacher if you can!
this teacher is horrible. she makes the material complex and hard to understand... and boy will that cause problems for you when you take her tests!! she is very difficult... gives out extra credit and then deducts points if it;s wrong. why bother with the extra credot then? avoid her like you would the plague!!!
Root canals are more enjoyable and easier to deal with then this class! Hands out extra credit, but counts the ones you get worng against you??? If you like a challange, enjoy the feeling of faliing or perhaps taking her class twice then you go for it!
She is an excellent teacher, the subject itself is just hard. Kathy is a pleasant person to be around and makes herself available, she is willing to help you through any confusion as long as you ask. Tests are incredibly difficult. Start studying for each exam about two weeks in advance.
this class is hard!!! and this teacher doesn't make it any easier. she has favorites in her classes and for everybody else- she doesn't care about them. her tests are extremely difficult! you have to study, study, study. there is no extra credit, but if she gives it out, she'll make it count against you if you get wrong! avoid her...
She had her favorites in our class. Ridiculous grading, I would get it wrong even when copied out of the book with her saying she wanted her answer. Well I hate to bust it to her but she don't write the book. Stay away, my transcrips went from 3.8 to 3.2 from here, all a's, 1b and a d+ from her that she wouldnt round up. Stay AWAY!
Picks favorites...NEVER reviews... tests are like reading a foreign language. 10 hours of study a night wouldn't even pay off... 4 out of 33 in my class passed...that's sad
She just goes over Figures of textbook rather than going into the details. She doesn't explain some of the problems from students. also she just gives home assignment if she can not make it in a class. i rather not any course with her now.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had! She will say one thing in the syllabus and mean something completly different! Her test are completly different than what was studied! She seems to have a problem when someone asks a question in class. Its a hard class, she makes it harder!!!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM HER!!!!
Excellent and very helpful! Great sense of humor :-) Highly recommend for serious students. If you require a lot of hand-holding, might wanna major in Square Dancing. If you appreciate a well organized class, then this is the prof. for you.
atleast 25% of class wont pass, very hard, however the online web-site u get with the class helps a lot. Try not to take her if you can or you may regret it...
impossible class. only a few people passed this past term. i wasnt one of them. she's really nice, but her teaching style is whack. and her tests might as well be written in japanese. the questions she asks have nothing to do with the material... and she's kinda weird.
Kathy is very intelligent and definitely knows biology. She is extremely tough but if you attend class, study, and ask questions, you will succeed. Her class is not impossible. I got an A and came away feeling like I learned something. I was definitely prepared for A & P. To all the whiners, college is supposed to be tough. Thanks Kathy!
Evans is a nice woman however not the best teacher. I had a 4.0 up until I took her class. Although I passed, over half of my classmates did not. Her tests might as well be written in a different language since most of the questions do not match was was taught in lecture. I do not reccommend taking her class!
Well the class was definitely hard for me, but this professor is good. She knows her stuff and she gets really excited about teaching it. If you want to succeed you need to work really hard, but the teacher is good.
Kathy is a very visual teacher. If you don't learn this way--this may not be the class for you. She is tough, but fair. If you put in the study time it will pay off. Very good sense of humor also!!
She is not a very good teacher in my opinion. Dont get me wrong, she is very smart and does know her stuff, but she does not have all the traits of being a good teacher. There is a difference between being a good teacher and being an awsome teacher. There is a BIG difference!
Kathy is a nice person, However she is a horrible teacher. Her lab quizzes apparently were made to pass, when most of the class gets a 6 out of 10 average. Then when the class does do good as a whole, she say's you're cheating. Her Test might as well be written in a foreign language. Nice person, horrible professor.
Kathy is not a very good teacher. All the exams and quizzes might as well have been written in another language. When you ask for help she looks at you like your in the wrong. The class average was a 26%. That should her that she is not doing a good job. Please take my advice and do not take her for a teacher.
Evans does not care about her students. I was on the high honor roll all through high school and have A's and B's in my other classes at RACC and I withdrew yesterday because this class was hurting my GPA to transfer to another school. This is the second time taking this class. So unless u want a failing grade, take this class with anyone but her!
You know what... this class is not for babies. You will get a passing grade if you DO THE WORK; if you work hard at it. It is very possible to pass that class. However, you will probably work your butt off. It will pay off though, trust me. Go for it. Kathy is a good teacher. You will not leave her class empty headed. Challenge urself!
Toughest class taken thus far, labs didn't follow the lab manual, tests questions can often not be comprehended. She will have you fill out an evaluation on her for extra credit; however, if there is one negative thing,no matter how slight won't give you points...She knows her bio but can't teach it to save her life
im currently in one of her classes and i wish i would have listened to all the students who wrote before me. EVERYTHING they say is true. she is very smart, but has no idea how to teach. when asking for help, she gives no feedback on your concerns about the class/your grade, the extra credit is only earned when it agrees with 'her opinion'.
Kathy is a very nice teacher and she tries to explain things so that everyone can understand. Her tests are hard to comprehend. Biology is not easy no matter who the teacher is. Labs are definately very busy and you do not have time to answer the questions most of the time in class. I would recommend taking this course by itself. Good Luck!
This was a hybrid course ? mostly online with a class meeting once a week. The entire class was homework, incuding extraneous quizzes and discussion posts online. I might as well have purchased the textbook and read it. There was not much else to this course.
to sum it up in the least amount of words, she's a terrible teacher, dont take her unless you want a big fat F, shes nice but her tests are RIDICULOUS and arent even passable unless your albert einstein... if your not lookin to take the course twice take someone else... TRUST ME! learned this stuff in H.S. got A's every quarter and am failing
I got a very hard worked for B in her class. Remember you're in college now, it's up to you to make the grade. She gives plenty of opportunitites for extra credit. You can pass her course the first time.
Pros: Very knowledgeable, fair, good teaching skills; Cons: very hard, lots of memorization, daily homework a must to keep up, very tough tests.
Everyone says she is a hard teacher, she just wants you to actually use your brain. She can be tough but if you can't handle her I feel sorry for the rest of your career. She is fair and gives plenty of extra credit. She is very intelligent and her knowledge is contagious. If you take her you will definitly use this valuable information.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! I studied for a week for one of her exams and failed. Her test questions are aimed to trick you, not to actually test you on the information. If you are in her class right now, drop it. Only about three of her students pass each semester.
She knows the material she's teaching better than the back of her hand. However, she only explains things once, the one way she know. Exams are made to trick you and are extremely difficult. Class average on exams ranged from 50%-60%. When crunched for time in class, she would refuse to answer questions. Labs were too fast. Good luck passing BIO150
Took this class online. I was not pleased with it at all. The material required to read in the textbook is not covered on quizzes. She had us doing two to three chapters a week and it really got me no where. I am not saying I do not recommend her, I'm saying if you are to take her as a teacher, sit down and learn in a class.
I am taking her this semester, not by my choice. Her style of teaching is inappropiate for what she is suppose to teach. Telling the class material she covers is not important than not covering what really is important wastes my money. Her test and lab quizes are aied at failure. Good luck all
Mrs. Evans is a really good professor. She is very intelligent and knows the information she is teaching very well. Her tests and lab quizzes can be difficult but they are passable as long as you put the work in. She is very helpful especially with all the extra credit opportunities. This class is not an easy A, but I have learned a lot.
This is honestly one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. She is very intelligent. Her tests are tricky but passable if you study. There are so many extra credit opportunities to keep your grade up. If you're smart and study you'll do just fine.
This was a tough course to get through with this instructor. No study guides no review for lab practical finals very misleading Instructor but managed to pass by learning on my own Not recommended
Do not take any classes with Ms. Evans!!! This class is extremely hard, the quizzes are difficult, and the tests are impossible! Half of my class dropped this course because of how hard it was. She's a nice lady and knows her stuff but she doesn't teach on a level for students to understand. I would NEVER recommend her!
The material was easy and I enjoyed learning biology, but she is the worse teacher ever. To make this simple, just don't take her. She makes the class harder than what it is. She's not very helpful and doesn't care if her students fail.
Extremely difficult class. I lost sleep thinking that I was failing the class all semester because she didn't factor in homework grades until the last few days of class. She is not compassionate, but she knows her material and gets the job done.
She is a very difficult teacher. I studied everyday and still struggled. She is a very smart lady but does not know how to teach. Word to the wise don't take her. I did manage to get a B- but that involved a lot of sleepless nights
Awful professor. Would not recommend to anyone taking enviromental courses. I took her course online and tried to study all the material from every source she gave us including the textbook, but the quizzes had questions totally different from what i studied. DO NOT TAKE HER! horibble proffessor
Dr. Evans is brilliant and fair. If you are looking to float through, this is not the instructor for you. She provides outlines and extra credit opportunities, but she expects you to know the material. She also gives clues during lecture (i.e This might be on the test). If you actually want the education you pay for this is the professor for you.
To put it plain and simple this class is extremely tough unless you commit an absurd amount of time to the material. She does not teach very well a lot of information and does not give study guides. She is very smart but perhaps too smart and cannot present the information in clearer ways.
Everyone's comments below make her out to be the least teacher ever which is not the case! Her tests that you do at home (answers are easy to google)are the exact same questions on the midterm and final. I got an A in her class. I did actually study and took alot of notes but it was definitely not that stressful. DEf possible to get an A!
She is a very hard teacher. But she is fair to all students and provides you with extra credit. Not an easy class if you want to breeze by. You have to work for what you earn. She is very smart and passionate about Biology.
This class was my first science class since 10th grade and it wasn't hard but it wasn't easy either. You have to really study and know your stuff because the midterm and final are tough. If you actually pick up the book, do the homework, and review diagrams/notes, you'll do fine. She is a really nice person and she explains the material clearly.
Since I took this class online, I never actually met Dr. Evans but she seemed alright. She always got back to me in a timely manner and the assignments were fairly easy. I passed with an A, but this class is incredibly boring. Thankfully, she offered lots of extra credit because I didn't really study for this class...
If you are serious about your future in the field of science, take from Prof. Evans. She is passionate and extremely knowledgeable in the field of Biology, and I look for every chance to learn from her.
Ms Evans was a kind teacher who gave students lots of encouragement. One has to work hard in this class. She repeats information that is important. Her tests are hard but the grading criteria is very clear. I enjoyed her lectures but not labs. I passed my class without problems. I would definitely recommend her.
Nice teacher, not boring, but you have to WORK for your grade. Lectures long and filled with info. Make sure your notes are good bc you will need them to study. Tests are all essay and no study guideshints provided. Labs are ok, have a 10 Q quiz after each one. Have a 5 Q quiz on every chapter (we took 60 quizzes). She offers some extra credit.
She is a awful, she's a terrible teacher and she is too smart. she also always tries to bring her students down. if it was my call I would get rid of her
While Professor Evans was extremely knowledgeable her teaching style wasn't cohesive with the way i learn as well as many of my fellow classmates. Her tests were really hard and don't skip her classes.
she is very knowledgeable, but too much knowledge is sometimes not always helpful when you are trying to teach to others that do not have as much knowledge as you may have. i STRONGLY suggest not taking her class unless YOU HAVE A FULL and clear understanding of every single thing about biology
Mrs. Evans is really smart but tends to explain difficult topics. I attended class everyday and was able to pass with an A. I only got an A because I took long notes, STUDIED everything that she ever went over, and I love and understand biology. If you are NOT good at studying then I do not recommend you take this class with her.
Expect to attend lecture, and take notes the whole time. There is a lot of information that she expects you to know, but the exams do cover exactly what was discussed in class. The exams are short essay, it requires a good amount of studying and grasp of the concepts. She gives about a full letter grade of extra credit, but it isn't a gimmie
She taught as if you already knew everything about biology. Wasn't very specific, and if you did ask for help she acts like you should already know all the information. Long boring lectures, would not recommend taking her course and really hard on grading.
Very challenging class, a ton of info to learn. No comprehensive final, instead an exam's worth of points for your notebook of everything for the semester. There is no rubric for it though, so it's tough to judge if you're doing it right until it's too late. Exams are tough, but many questions from homework makes it better. Lab practical is brutal.
Kathy Evans is no joke. If you can survive her class then you can survive college. She is all over the place and very hard to follow. If you do take her, get ready to read, read, and did I mention read? And that's just reading the text book. Then you have to make sense of the notes with the textbook. Very confusing and difficult class
All of the work is online. Everything she says during lecture has nothing to do with the work we are graded on. She expects you to know what she's talking about 100% of the time even if you've never learned about it. Good luck staying awake during lecture!
Worst teacher ever. She knows so expects you to know as well and it's terrible.
Overall this class was an easy A for me. Prof Evans can be a tough grader. Beware, the final exam has 200 questions (200 possible points). At times, she can be critical when it comes to grading EO project. If you're not the type of person that works hard in order to get A's and B's, I don't recommend this course for you.
I will NEVER take another class with this professor. To begin, she basically teaches you as if you already have a basic understanding of all the biology concepts. She goes too much in-depth, to the point where you are writing notes that aren't on the test. Only she doesn't tell you it won't be on the test until after you wrote it.
Horrible teacher! I once was given the assignment to do a bar graph, I handed mine in and received and F. The student next to me had the exact same graph and received an A.
Mrs. Evans was an incredibly difficult teacher. She is very difficult to talk to, people had questions and she'd interrupt say what she thought we wanted answered and say "okay that's it." She was also rude, she called a group during lab "special" because they were slow at an experiment. She is a genius at Bio but cannot teach it at all.
I took Professor Evans for my last semester for Bio-150, which is her last class because she is retiring. However she is a VERY tough grader for everything but she does know biology! If you pay attention and take notes on lecture days, you will be fine. Only part I didn't like was the grading and the tests, because there were 5 chapters per test!
