She is not an easy teacher, her tests are usually 3 chapters at a time! Lots of study time required to pass this class! Be prepared
This is the hardest class I have EVER taken. If you are going into health-science field I strongly urge you to take this before you get too close to your core classes! A lot of studying to do. You never know what to expect on her tests!!!
Outstanding instructor. She draws out diagrams on the board to help you understand the concept. She gives you practice tests and some of those questions are on the actual test. She loves what she teaches and it shows in how she teaches. She is very interested in her students and wants to make sure you understand the material.
Mrs. Ferrell is one of the toughest instructors I ever had, but she is also an excellent instructor. Like the other student mentioned, she drew pictures and gave you Powerpoint presentations to study. Please be advised, if you take her class, be prepared to dedicate a lot of time to studying!
One of the hardest classes I ever took. Sheeeeee's a great teacher. I found that even when I had a had time putting together concepts, she has a way of taking ordinary situations and making you understand the material. she is hard but I would recommend her to anyone.
I love Mrs. Ferrell, she is very helpful and she makes learning Physiology a lot easier to understand than another prof. I took it from. If you want a prof. who cares as much about your grade as you do take Ferrell's class.
Prof. Ferrell scared me on the first day with what she expected but I quickly learned that she is a great teacher and a kind person. If you study and are a serious student you should have no problem getting an A. Ferrell will help you as much as you need and uses a lot of visuals to help you understand Physiology. I would take her again and agai
This is honest to god the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. She might be good in A&P but DO NOT TAKE HER FOR BIO 101. I'm still in the class, but my grade is falling. I've taken A&P and Micro with A's yet I have a C right now. When you ask her for help, you're bothering her. When you want your lab report looked at b4 turing it in, its a NO!!!
Great teacher! She can seem harsh but she just doesn't have tolerance for laziness. Work and study hard and you will quickly see she is a wonderful teacher! Makes biology interesting and explains material in a way that you learn it and enjoy learning it instead of just memorizing it for tests! I LOVED HER CLASS!!
Ms. Ferrell is a difficult teacher. Be prepared to study hard. Do the work, come the class, and study hard and you will pass. Her tests are a little tricky. Her lectures are clear and precise. She does explain the material at a level you will understand. Available for help when needed. She doesn't give an inch when it comes to grading. Study hard!
can be very rude insensitive and does nto liek questions to be asked during class
A great class to learn from. Kathy's test are challenging but a good college student should do well if attends class and studies diligently. Kathy has a lot of industry experience and has superb knowledge of biology and science. She challenges you to critically think and analyze which is what society lacks. tests are mult choice and True and False
She's tough. Attend all classes and labs. Do ALL assignments and you will pass. She does give powerpoint notes and tests from those; however, the multiple choice questions are NOT easy. Know the concepts and you'll do fine. Ask her probing questions from the material and she lights up! She's funny and really just wants students to 'get it'.
Good teacher but hard class. Explains things well enough for students to grasp. I failed the class because I didn't have enough time to study. I will retake and hopefully get her as my teacher again. Oh and do not miss labs or lecture!
Talk about nasty, this woman is vicious from my personal experience. Every single lab was a disaster and she was simply mean to everyone in the class. I personally wouldn't recommend her to anyone that doesn't have a masochistic streak.
I'm a 4.0 student and have never dropped or had difficulty in a class until I had Ferrell. She's difficult to approach; if you ask questions, she seems bothered or makes you feel dumb for asking. It took her a MONTH to grade the first lab report.I wrote #2 and #3 without even knowing how I'd done on the first one. It's like being set up for failure.
Terrible, rude, woman. Her teaching method is all over the place and she can't stay on topic. Dare not ask for help or further explanation from this one, or she'll make you feel like an idiot. Teaching materials are similar to an entry level high school instructor. She can't properly convey students grade to them so you're basically in limbo.
She puts on the Visiage of a Rude mean, uncaring teacher. She is actually one of the Nicest tearchers and will WORK with you if you come to her with office hours. These people who give her bad comments, i can tell they never actually met her outside of class. she is one of the coolest teachers at this school. Its a hard class, but its Hell its bio.
The first day, she comes off as the worst professor ever. She wants to seem like a really hard teacher, but sher's surprisingly willing to help. You just have to get used to her brusque manner, and then she's great. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
She is extremely rude! you cant ask her for help because she treats you like a complete idiot. All the class ideas are jumbled around and you cant understand what is going on, especially when you have no biology in your educational background.
Rude. Mean spirited. Don't bother askind her for help (durring or outside of class) unless you enjoy being made to feel like a fool.
Don't recommend at all. I'm getting an A in this course because I study hard, but as a person, she is the rudest person that I've ever met. Today, she made a snide comment about a students weight in front of the class. If you ask questions, she makes you look like an idiot. Hell, she misses every other Tuesday for she is taking a masters course.
Her approach is all over the place. She doesn't finish material required for the test. She misses lecture every other Thu and has another prof teach, but they aren't ever on the same page. She ridicules students. Don't ask questions, warning you! She speaks to students as though we are in junior high. Demands respect from students but displays none!
She's soooo Hard! When you ask a question she makes you feel like a complete idiot she doesn't even give you a chance to figure out what you are doing. She rushes you into lab with out knowing anything. If she's not there to teach you a chapter or do a lab you'll be tested anyway on material she hasn't even gone over!!!!!. GOODLUCK!!
Terrible as a teacher and a person. If you plan on teaching yourself then take her class. Constantly late or doesnt show up at all. Doesnt cover all material and test usually include a few questions that were not covered or in the book. Very slow at posting Grades.
One of the best teachers I ever had, she was a hard teacher and I struggled in the class but I could have never learned Biology better...If you are going into sciences where biology is mandatory TAKE HER CLASS.
This is a very rough class and I don't blame everything on the teacher. There is a lot of material to cover. This being an entry level class a lot of the students don't treat it with a college maturity level. Be ready to read and understand.
A LOT of studying is required for this class. The information is tedious and very overwhelming. She is pretty hard too; will not accept any late assignments and puts a very strict time limit on everything.
I loved Mrs. Ferrell! She's a great teacher and her class was always interesting and fun. You WILL have to put in the time to study, and her labs can be difficult. Take good notes and pay attention in lectures. However, I would highly recommend her, especially if you're a Bio major. She's BY FAR my favorite teacher this year.
Lecture tests are extremely hard and the information is difficult to fully understand. You cannot study the day before and expect to pass. An excess amount of time is required outside of class to prepare for everything. She is, however, helpful when asking for help though often times makes you feel dumb. HARD CLASS.
I took the hybrid class and only had lab with Mrs. Ferrell. If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the teacher for you! If you want to be challenged and learn from an amazing teacher, she is the perfect choice! Amazing teacher! I hope to have her again in the future.
Mrs. Ferrell is very keen on her students paying attention, esp in lab. she was tough and a bit intemidating, but i respected her love of science. she expects you to do your work correctly and turn it in on time, do that and you will do fine. i was extemely nervous to take her class, but passed with a B with minimal effort.
Overall she is an ok teacher. She uses power points to teach and she goes through them very fast. Definitely make sure to print off the chapter notes from blackboard and use the study guides. It is a challenging class but if you do your work and STUDY STUDY STUDY then you will be ok. Make sure to bring your book to class too.
Ms. Ferrell is a good teacher but this class is tough! She is very no nonsense. You are expected to do the work and turn it in on time. THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS. The majority of the class dropped out or is failing. You will need to STUDY to succeed. I personally liked her a lot. I think she is funny and she is willing to help if you ask for it.
Beware of this teacher. She is not helpful at all and goes through 40+ power point pages in one day and doesn't tell you what to write down. Tests dont cover anything from class. Most people dropped her class. She is rude and intimidating. Do not take this woman unless you have no other choice. She also looks like the lady from Glee.
For someone who already has a college degree and has been through this class before (many years ago), I have never had a teacher as hard as she is. Avoid her if you can! Test are super hard and do not cover anything we talked about. Our class average on tests has been between a 47 and 59 for all 4 tests. This should say something. DON'T TAKE HER!
I had her for Bio 101 and she is a tough teacher. She has high expectations for her students (maybe a little too high for bio101). Her grading is really harsh. I never got a perfect score on anything in her class. Lecture she just reads off of the powerpoint slides. She will not take anything late. Period. Tough class. Made a C :/
Lectures are off power points, hard to understand, and she goes through them extremely fast. She take weeks to grade assignments. The works she goes over in class is not on her tests. Test are very hard. do not take her unless you have a broad understanding of biology, if not, you will have a difficult time in this class.
Very hard for 101, labs were unclear, pop quizzes......Wouldn't recommend!
Ferrell is a very difficult grader but also a great lecturer. There are many assignments so prepare to work hard. She does not tolerate laziness and slacking off. You can tell she really wants her students to learn and will help if you need it. Lecture tests and lab quizzes are difficult but if you put enough effort in you can make an A!
She is a very hard teacher and does not take into consideration that people have jobs or family or other classes to worry about. She assigns a lot of homework and test are very hard and not on what she lectures. She is intimidating and sometimes rude.
Prof. Ferrell is not for everyone. Her exams are difficult. But, if you pay attention in her lectures and take good notes you will do well. If you are struggling you must go to her for help, don't expect to get a good grade without putting in the work. Overall I really enjoyed her class.
Don't take her! she isn't very clear on what she says. Very good personality, but CANNOT teach! Really teacher who gave the whole class a hard time! I highly recommend not to take her!
Very difficult instructor. Tests never reflect lectures.
Horrible Teacher and Horrible Grader. Highly Recommend that you DO NOT take her.
I took Ferrell's class last spring and it has been by far one of the hardest college classes I've taken so far. While Ferrell is in no way an easy teacher, she gives ample opportunities for students to get a decent grade. This class is pretty much your grade reflects your effort.
Kathy is not going to hold your hand and spoon feed you information. You will have to EARN every point in her class. She is extremely intelligent, but also hardcore. Mrs. Ferrell will make every effort to help you, but only if you ask. It's your responsibility to seek help from her if needed. She gets bad ratings from students who lack initiative.
Mrs. Ferrell is not the best professor. She is a good teacher but she lacks any empathy towards students. She doesn't care about them, even the ones who get good grades. The due dates and tests were very confusing. She is smart, but in an arrogant way. I would never take another class from her again. Half the class was gone before the exam.
Often got different lab classes mixed up. Often found tests weren't on lectures or material out of text book.
Very bad at teaching and very strict. It is MANDATORY you read and complete ALL assignments or you will not pass. The tests are EXTREMELY tough!!! I passed this class by .8 points. She was always late to class, and all she does is read from a power point (which is just every page from the textbook). I would never recommend Mrs. Ferrell!
I had her for only the lab portion of this class and it was quite awful. She's not very helpful nor easy to understand. She's fairly disorganized and jumps around from topic to topic. Would not recommend her.
I had Mrs. Ferrel this semester. She's horrible at lectures, her tests do not reflect her lectureslabs, she has no empathy towards students, extremely egotistical, doesn't care about students - pretty sure she only cares about her paycheck every week - and she is the worst teacher ever. Would NEVER recommend her.
Prof. Ferrell was a wonderful professor. I took the class when I was a sophomore in high school and I made an A. All you have to do is read people! If you honestly cannot pass bio 101, change your major. The material is straight forward, and She requires you to use your brain.
I had her for the lab portion of this class. She's not known for helpfulness or easiness. This is a tough course regardless but she could have done a better job with explaining.
I took Medical Terminology online. Just don't! Take it in the classroom. She isn't very helpful via email. She gives vague answers to questions so you don't know the answer to your questions. it took almost 5weeks to get our grades back for the essay paper we had to write.
Avoid at all costs. No extra points, short time limits for quizzes as compared to other instructors. Not helpful and very vague info for written paper. No study guides. Buy the book and learn it. That seems to be her philosophy.
HAD HER FOR TWO DIFFERENT CLASSES, SHE IS THE WORST!! The first class I figured I could've done better, which is true. Second class I realized it wasn't just me!! Does not respond to emails or follows office hours. Did not even discuss final or give out date of final, I had to learn on my own about the final elsewhere.
I would say stay away. I will not take another class from her. She has very little communication and is unclear on assignments. Didn't know grade on paper until the day before the final. No help at all. Buy the book and learn it on your own. There are other instructors for this class that are much more helpful.
I had Mrs. Ferrell online for Med Term. Worst instructor ever. We never heard from her but maybe twice the whole semester. You never had any idea what's On a test. Grading was strict on papers and it took her two months To grade a two page paper that she returned the day of final exams. You were set up for failure from the start. I do not recommend
She is extremely nice, but you need to study and read if you want to do well.
Not only the worst instructor I have ever had but also the worst person I have ever met, she spent more time making students feel stupid than actually help. When the semester started there were a maximum number of students in the class, by the end there was about 6 students. Please do yourself a favor and avoid her at all cost and warn everyone
If Your going in the Field of Science then she is the teacher you want if you really enjoy biology and long lectures , her study guides are no help and She is sassy and don't expect Sympathy EVER !!! from her ever she does not care about your problems just her class. If you are taking biology because you have to get another teacher or you will fail
I did not take a single note all semester. If you read your book you are golden. My advice is to sit down and shut up because if you try to answer a question and you aren't specific she will embarrass you and make you feel stupid. Her favorite phrase is " use your vocabulary". She made two girls cry and called them out in front of the whole class.
She just had a bad attitude and would embarrass people if they didn't know the answer to something. I had an 89.3 in the class and she wouldn't bump it up to an 89.5 to become an A. No sympathy at all.
Whenever you take one of her tests there is always something that was never talked about in class.
On more than one occasion students in the class were ridiculed or chastised because of small things, like getting an answer wrong during class discussion. I was personally ridiculed for my handwriting in front of the class. She does not deal with students in a professional manner and doesn't give graded work back in a timely manner.
She shouldn't be teaching science or teaching at all. Her lack of compassion and empathy towards other human beings is absurd. I was a witness of her ridiculing toward classmates and her compulsive responses. The actual class content is not arduous (yet many times unclear), but students are constantly being turned down. I would never recommend her.
Read chapters before lecture- have questions ready-don't skip any of the side text in the book, a lot of test questions come from that, use the bio tutors- go to her office hours to ask questions, look at tests, and definitely do your lab reports early and have her look over them. If you put in the work, she will be rooting for you.
Basically have to know everything about biology and then show up for class for a refresher. Lectures have way to much information and not enough time to process it.
She is an awful teacher who shows zero care for students whatsoever. She ridicules students if they answer a question wrong and expects you to know everything about bio as if you are a scientist and her attitude is awful. She made a student cry. Skips through powerpoints so fast. Would not recommend this teacher even as a last resort.
Overall shes been a rude professor! Her PowerPoints go way too fast! She has no patience for her students! If I would have known she was going to act the way she does which is quite childish I would not have taken the class. I am considering withdrawing
The worst teacher I have ever had. I did everything possible to pass her class short of being able to read her mind, but still ended up with a 68.80. Highly recommend switching teachers if you end up in her class.
I read the book so I did well on the tests and homework assignments, which are online. Mrs. Ferrell gives out assignments (lecture and lab) throughout the semester for grades, and it is often unclear what you need to do. She is a really tough grader. Her labs are difficult and unclear and she has a bad attitude toward students. Get out ASAP!!
If you want to pass this class, I recommend a different instructor.
She's a tough teacher if you study and participate in class she'll like you and you'll do fine. She's kind of all over the place and expects students to remember everything that they just learned 5 minutes ago. Find another teacher, but if not, it's not the end of the world. ( I took bio 105)
A pretty hard class. If youre someone who needs a lot of instruction and clarity from your professor, I would suggest finding another one
End of semester sub. She is down right disrespectful. She spent 15 mins calling out a student in front of the whole class instead of actually teaching when we have a test next class.I asked a question and she spoke over me and told me my "thinking" was wrong with air quotes. Felt like I was being treated as an incompitant child.
She makes the class unbearable. Rants in anger about how "everyone" in the class is being disrespectful. When someone asks a question she takes offense and is extremely disrespectful. Makes students fear to participate and ask question. I have never had this much of a problem with a professors attitude until now.
She is a tough grader when it comes to lab quizzes and lab assignments. Makes sure you read the lab manual for those. When it comes to the lecture tests read the book and make your own SG's that helped me. She does care when it comes to the performance of her students but it can come out rather harsh which is why she is disliked by her students.
Wow. What a gem of a teacher, if you consider writing disgrace on one of a students papers, making her cry in front of the whole class, and calling the class an embarrassment to Greenville tech WORST professor ever, if you get one thing wrong on any homework, its a letter grade taken away, miss class? You will be lectured, and fail. STAY AWAY!
If I could have given a 0 for the professor rating, I would have. I require notes per my accommodations & she was impossible to get them from until the day before the test. She does not allow makeup work including tests, even if you have a doctors note. She belittles her students and talks about you in class to other students if you are not there.
Finishing the rest of the review I left. Even if you have surgery, you still wont be able to make up anything. Dont answer any questions because if you get them wrong, she will make fun of you. She gave me a panic attack because I was going to have to talk to her & beg her to let me make up something. Dont sign up if the teachers arent listed.
There is a 5 day drop period after class starts. Remember that. Mrs. Ferrell has been teaching for 30+ years, and she teaches as if the students have a similar amount of knowledge. She teaches BIO101 like a graduate-level class. I can't accurately describe how much work there was, but there's a LOT. She doesn't cover all the testmaterial in lecture
She is very hard on her students, her powerpoints are difficult to comprehend. She will belittle you if you answer something wrong so make sure you have thick skin before you take this class. Her demeanor can be harsh. If you do your work however, she will be somewhat reasonable with you.
She's really bad. Don't stay with her.
Mrs. Ferrell Is a great professor for those who really enjoy biology. In order to be successful in her class, you have to appreciate to subject. She is helpful with things as long as you are quick to ask for help.
Mrs. Ferrell is a very educated woman and I have a lot of respect for her. However, she can be very harsh and critical. She's not the nicest professor and she can be forgetful. However, she wants her students to learn. I think I would take a class with her again now that I know what she's like. This class involved a lot more work than I thought.
Prof Ferrell not only uses powerpoints provided to her by the book but doesn't try to add anything of her to them. Cons * Hard Test * To pass you need to read the book * Boring * Changes dates, and doesn't maintain a proper schedule (Even though they are supposed to make these ahead of time * Focuses on topics that are not relevant / not on test
Mrs. Ferrell is really nice, but for her online class she uses a LOT of outside material and websites, and it can get really confusing. you HAVE to study, or you will definitely fail. And as a warning to neurodivergent students: the way she designs schedules is very hostile and hard to follow. If you can avoid taking her, please do.
Ferrell gets tons of flak here and not without reason. She is rather demeaning and talks down to the class . If you don't understand it seems like she's making fun. However despite this, Ferrell actually wants everyone to succeed and do well which is why she talks to the bottom percent. She supplies tons of extra study content to help you pass
I love Professor Ferrell! She is a professor who cares for all of her students. A lot of effort must be put in to receive your desired grade. Overall, she is always available!
She often lectures in lab. Personality isn't great, but she's not too bad if you talk to her 1 on 1. Gave us an opportunity for 5 extra credit points on the final. She posts powerpoints and recordings of every lecture in case you miss a class. Watch out for online assignments! There aren't many, but she'll only mention it once in class, if at all.
Professor Ferrell was one of the most caring teachers I have ever had. She recognizes her class is difficult and provides ALL the opportunities in the world for students to grasp understanding. If you put in the work, show up to class, and listen to what she is saying, you will pass. This class will require the ALL the effort in your body.
This class was extremely hard. If you struggle with biology or science in general, do not take this class. She speeds through lectures and uses A LOT of outside material. Most material on the test was not from the PowerPoints we went through in class.
