She's funny, and I think she's an excellent professor.
I only wish she were teaching all the math classes that I needed.
She's a good professor, funny too.
A good all around teacher. Drills you well on test material. Makes 99% of classes worth attending. She made hard material easier for me. Puts all of the class work on the internet (I recommend checking it out before you take the class).
A teacher who actually cares about her students learning. Would definitely take another class with her but I'm done with math at Moorpark. All-around good teacher.
Kathy Fink is the best math teacher I have had since enrolling in college (and possibly ever!). She is lucid her explanation and she makes the subject of calculus interesting by referring to actual people in the field, its applications and theory.
What a nice teacher she is! Very helpful that it's impossible to get lower than a B in her class. Ask her a million questions, go to her office she will treat you the best way possible and WILL EXPLAIN UNTIL YOU LEARN IT! Don't take anybody else! take her
This is the best professor at Moorpark College. Everybody should take math from her. Not only is she very helpful, but math is her passion, so she can explain how everything works. She is also one of the most intelligent people I've every met.
Cannot get better than Kathy.Helping is like her favorite thing to do.And she treats you like an expert because if you realize you pretty much are an expert when you're in calculus. You just grow to love her so much.:)Thank you kathy
Ok, I don't know about what everyone below me said but I do know that don't bother taking this class unless you are really serious!Doing your hw is a must! The bases of your grade is only on test, nothing else.If your a best test taker, don't take her. So don't waste your time if your not serious
The best math teacher @ MC. She makes math simple. I had no interest in Statistics but she actually makes the subject interesting. Tests are difficult but if you take good notes, won't be a problem. If you don't understand something, she will be more than happy to explain it until you understand it.
Very interested in what she does. Tries very hard to accurately explain concepts. Answers ALL questions. Great help during office hours. Would definitely take again.
Homework is assigned daily but never collected. I did all the Homework the day before the test and got an A in the class. This class does require that you put in a little work but an A is easily within reach. She is very helpful.
Its not her thats hard, it is the subject material. Be sure to stay on top of your homework, even though she does not collect it.
K. Fink is the "bomb digity". she definitely knows her stuff. She makes you want to love what she does. I never did any homework till the weekend b4 each test and I got an A. I'm not recommending u do that, but if you have a weakness in math, she's the one. Easy as long as you practice your math.
I'm really horrible at math and with Kathy's help I got an A. It is a really boring subject but she is so enthusastic and willing to help. Try to do the homework assignments even though she doesn't collect them and do all the study guides they really help. You should be able to get an A.
she is a really good teacher. she gives last semester's tests on her website and the tests that you take are exactly the same but different numbers. real easy. i recommend everyone to take her stat class. shes really cool too!
She does an excellent job in explaining the fundamentals of calculus, but does a poor job in explaining them to us.
Be sure to do your homework and you will do fine. If you're not going to do it, you won't get very far. She will explain what she is doing when one asks. Overall, I enjoyed the class, tests are not too hard, she has near-exact copies of previous tests on website, do those b4 test and your set
If you have difficulties in math DO NOT take her. She is always willing to help, and tries to make it interesting.Beware her moments of teaching things you do not need to know, they may confuse you more. Make sure to do all the homework, pratice tests etc.Her tests are basically the same as the reviews she hands out but will throw in trick question
Despite the fact that I had a hard time understanding the work and pressure problems, she never gave up on me......she spent so much time with me that I ended up not only with an A but with a very high A. Professor Fink is always their for her students because she loves what she does.......Thankyou very much...
Do the HW and go to class if you want an A. Tests are not very hard.
she is a very nice lady but teaches extremely fast. her fastforward style makes it hard for you to follow if you dont already know the material. she puts most effort into covering as much as possoble in every class session.
Very cool teacher. Very helpful, and enthusastic about learning. Taking M30 and M31 at the same time is interesting because they overlap a bit.
Very good teacher, nice person!
i took it cuz everyone claimed she was a good techer, well shes not!! did not explain well. started with 40 people in class and ended with about 15, that many dropped it!! i ended dropping with 2 weeks left of semester. now i have to retake it. dont listen to anyone else!!!
The only way you'd think she's not a good teacher is if you don't try. She treats you like grown-ups. If you have questions ask, either in class or office hours or by email. If you get behind, you probably will have trouble getting caught up, but is that her problem or yours?
I really liked her class and teaching style. She was really concerned with people's progress in the class. If you have any questions or worries, go talk to her during office hours. I am not very good at math, but I still felt that she graded pretty fairly and was very helpful. I'd recommend her, just don't expect a totally easy class.
Mrs. Fink is the best math teacher I ever had. I never understood the stuff in highschool, but she really helped me get calculus. I think she is one of the best professors at Moorpark College. If you are willing to work hard and try your best, I highly recommend her.
gotta retake it now!
Not a good teacher at all. She lectures through the use of a graphing calculator, but does not allow them on tests.
She's great. There's no way you will have to retake her class if you try hard and get extra help if you need it. If you think the class is too hard, then quit whining and go get a tutor.
Although she does not collect homework, her test are fairly challenging making it hard to recieve a valued grade. The biggest problem with her is her grading, she does not curve nor let you drop a test she only replaces it with your final. Take at your own risk
Awesome math teacher. Really personal and will help you out any time you need it. She is challenging but fair. I had to work hard for my A but I got it, don't be afraid to ask her for help or get a tutor (I found study groups with friends i made in class to be helpful). A+ teacher.
She is a GREAT teacher. I barely passed my first class of calc and then I understood everything when she taught it. You can't go wrong with this teacher. Hurry up and sign up, her classes fill up fast.
Confusing teaching style. Talks to the board, not the students. Says there's not time to slow down to explain more, but tells stories. Said the first week, "the purpose of my lectures isn't so you understand. It's so you get the gist of it and figure it out yourself at home." Doesn't seem to care about the progress of the students. Said not one wor
It is a class that is all about tests and hardly an assignments!!! Just tests it is hard and she thinks she is so funny but it is dry hummor
great teacher! A lot didn't think so because of her explanations. But, she doesn't require you to do the HW (although you should), and her tests are fair. SHe also puts old exams and reviews (with answers!) online for students' access. Nice lady, gives extra time on final and tests. Very funny-she loves what she does!
She is a great teacher, completely knows what she is doing and has a very good knowledge of the material that she teaches; she is also very helpful; the course is not easy though, needs practice and hard work. I loved her class.
I have taken her stats class and i must say that this teacher has been working way to long and does not know how to relate to the students even with her gray bob cut hair. I get very high grades at moorpark and this has been the lousiest teacher i have taken...maybe math sucks as a whole right? but this teacher takes this to a whole new level...
This teacher should retire immediately or in the best interest of you the student...DO NOT TAKE HER...it is a waste of time and space....her only connection to the students is the time one has to show up...extremely extremely BAD...
shes a good teacher, but the tests are extreamly hard
She never says she won't help you. No quizzes. 4 - 6 tests. Gives review sheets for tests before tests are given. Never deviates from the style of questions. Really no curve balls. One ec problem per test. Only like 10 questions per test anyway. Homework everyday. Two sections per day. She's not crazy over "why this is the way it is."
I am horrible at math but I still got a B in this class. Kathy is really nice and all, and a good teacher, but I couldn't understand her. She basically speaks math and she doesn't explain it in a way that liberal arts people like me would understand. Take her if you are a math person. If not, you might be ok, but it'll be harder.
excellent, is willing to go back and review when necessary
Excellent teacher. Very clear and fair. I honestly cannot think of a single negative thing to say about the class. As long as you keep up with the homework, which is not to hard or graded either, it's almost impossible to get anything less than an A. Wish she was teaching my next math class.
Just plainly she is the best. I have had many math teachers, but she is at the top. I love her humor, and her style. She teaches very well, but you have to do your part too. Study, attend class and do the homework even if it's not required.
I actually liked the subject, but she seemed to be more interested in the board and numbers, than the students trying to learn what they meant. She let a group of young students in the corner talk during class, it was very distracting. Half of the class dropped. If you miss one class, you'll be left behind.
Just nice. Fairly easy, helpful, knowledgeable. Wants you to do the homework from the book, gives practice sheets before tests, which are very similar to the actual tests. And on the tests she gives one extra-credit problem worth ten(!) points. She wants students to do well and not hate mathematics. Provoked interest in the subject in me.
Kathy Fink is a good instructor to have. Nothing to complain about unless you really don't understand math. Also, if you get to Calc, she is very thoughtful to let ALL of the waitlist and not waitlist people in. She states "It makes me feel sorry if I turn any of you away..." I was shocked at how nice she was even though her class was full.
Tried to take her and it was a complete failure. She is a good teacher for people who really understand what they are doing, but if you arent great at math or need any help dont take this class. She will leave you in the dust and you will spend more time with a tutor than in class. She is a nice person, but i ended up dropping.
By far one of the best math teachers I have ever had. She is clear, concise, and to the point. One word of advice though, you have to be interested in math to be great in this class. She moves steadly covering all the objectives. Make sure to do homework and study and you should do fine! My advice take her
Shes an alright teacher, but she goes really fast. I failed the class but I couldve passed if I actually tried. If you do her homework, you should be fine. But her tests are VERY VERY VERY DIFFICULT. You would need to study your life away, literally. Good luck if you take this teacher, shes helpful. But the class itself is impossible.
I accidentally rated her wrong. Im the one below. Ignore those number ratings!
Most people who are saying the class is impossible either just don't try or don't do the homework. The homework isn't mandatory, but it's a good idea to do it. She gives review sheets before every test that are similar to the test. The class itself at times is tough, but she is a good teacher and a nice person.
Great teacher who always answers questions. Does two lessons a day as well as review from the prior class(hw questions). If you ask her a question during a test she will give you hints. Only take this class if you are serious about it. It's a hard class that requires a lot of time!
I took this teacher based on many recommendations off this website. At first, she seems like a nice teacher, professional and helpful. But as soon as she starts teaching, she gets lost in her equations on the board, does not stop to ask students questions, moves extremely fast (fast like she is working it out only for her). Plus the class is hard.
Kathy is a good teacher but the class itself is hard. The worst part is how long the classes are and they are boring! She basically just teaches lessons one after another and doesn't do anything different ever. She is pretty clear and the tests are fair. The problem is the is no extra credit and the course is difficult
Kathy is such a great instructor. Her lectures are very clear, but if something isn't quite clicking for you during the lecture, just raise your hand and she'll do her best to break it down for you. Has a sense of humor and is friendly. Loves teaching. Tests and grading are fair. Has good review materials online. Do your homework.
Great teacher! She explains the material very clearly and gives excellent study guides before tests. She is also really nice and always makes time if you have questions. I'm definitely going to take her for M03.
she is not a great at all.. she can be ok. at times. but she is extremely boring... When she speaks she talks to the board and her self most of the time. Half of each test consist of material you didnt even go over on your study guide.. I do not recommend her if you are not the type that can handle boring for a long time..
her test reviews are way easier than her tests, her tests are really hard. math was easy for me until calculus, so unless calc is easy for youre going to get your tests back with 70% averages. grades on tests ranged from 100% to 20%. i studied a ton just to get a C on a test, so if you want to study calc every day of the semester take this class
Very easy.especially for a fill in class.
math nerd who knows subject very well. boring teacher, but math is a boring subject. teaches material very well. highly recommend her if you want to learn something.
She is one of the worst teachers ever! Does not know how to teach
I wish she knew how to teach! She talks to her self instead if us the students when she is doing math. She goes by fast and doesn't really enjoy answering any ones questions. The study guides for test are WAY easier than the test.. The test is nothing like the study guide!! Do Not Take Her!! I passed but had to pay extra money for tutors as well as others in the class! If I wouldn't have paid I would have not passed!
CONS: The class (not the subject!) is boring and tailored to the math naturals that need her help the least. Instead of making class entertaining, she worries about not making awkward people talk in class. No extra credit, no graded homework, feels like you're being graded on algebra PROS: Exams are relatively fair, she's not mean, tries to help.
She has a lot of enthusiasm for math, but sometimes it doesn't quite translate into a good teaching skills. Class can be boring as it is easy to get lost. Gives practice exams before tests and answers questions before exams. Doesn't lecture on exam days. Don't trust rumors that Calc 25B is insane, it's not, at least not with Fink.
I wasn't great at math in high school but she was the first math teacher who I actually learned and understood math from I would definitely recommend. She is a great teacher!
She's is great. Gives you all you need to succeed.
This class is a joke. She is always late, is an awful teacher, makes absolutely no sense and is always unclear
Haters gonna hate. This class is hard, and alot of people still leave early and jerk off. If you're gonna get a good grade you'll sweat for it. You learn the material though. This is Calc, if the idea of hard work is averse to you then switch majors
The course itself isn't very hard but sometimes she doesn't explain things clearly or skips steps. The only thing graded is the tests so make sure you study well and understand. She gives practice tests and reviews prior which really help and reflect the material that is going to be on the test. Good teacher overall.
Professor Fink was a great professor with a really fun approach to calculus. Although calculus is sort of intimidating at first, she really makes an effort to make it as clear as possible. Her practice tests and reviews are imperative to your survival of this class, so study/do them thoroughly and you'll do fine.
I would say she is a good teacher but you HAVE to go out of your way to ask questions and such to figure that out, she honestly teaches the board, not the class. Class was very boring, most people didn't even bother coming. If you get on her good side and participate a lot, she'll give you a fair grade.
At first, she makes no sense and trying to follow what she does is all but useless. As the class progresses, you understand her style and the course gets easier. Realize she's a very fair by giving you hints on TESTS and review exams, which are absolutely crucial, I'd recommend taking her
If expect this class to be like high school pre-calculus don't take this class, but as long as you do the homework, take the notes, review, and work hard you should be fine.
She's an awesome professor. Not the easiest but definitely laid back woman. She tries to make the class fun and welcomes ANY question. She gives you hints on the test upon request and doesn't put any tedious problems
Great professor hard material. You MUST do your homework on your own in order to be prepared for the tests. Be there every class or you will miss important material. This class is hard but this professor will get you through it IF you put in the effort. I got 98% -100% each test. (I am a biology major)
SHE IS USELESS. worst teacher ever. I'm not good in math whatsoever and i always needed help. she never replied to any of my emails when i asked for help or wanted to go meet during office hours. HER NOTES ARE SO MESSY. I had a question one time and she said "I don't have time for this we are moving on" LITERALLY A HORRIBLE TEACHER DO NOT TAKE HER
Nice lady, but can't teach the subject well. Often makes mistakes which are usually caught by other students in the class and her review sheets are way easier then the actual exam. Really hard to get an A but manageable to get a C or B.
Teacher is nice but class is outrageously difficult. This was supposed to be review for me since I've studied the material but her tests have around 10 problems each: each question compresses a ton of mathematical knowledge into an equation and if you can't solve it you won't get a good grade on the test or class in general
She's a nice woman and she's pretty good at teaching the subject. She makes mistakes sometimes, but nothing major. The class itself isn't easy, but it's honors calculus.. so it's not like you don't know what you signed up for. If you apply yourself in the class, and do the homework and study guides you should be alright.
She's a very dry teacher. You really have to fight to pay attention to the lecture and do the homework and ask questions or else passing is difficult. The subject is tough enough but her dryness makes it worse. She's not that bad if you are willing to put in a lot of effort to ask questions!
Kathy is an awesome teacher. She's so chill! Her lectures are crystal clear, and she is always willing to explain something if you don't understand it. She doesn't collect homework, but you should do it because it prepares you for tests. The reviews she gives out are also very helpful. As long as you put forth the effort, you'll pass.
Although she is so BORING, She's probably one of the best profs to take for stats for 2 reasons. 1) she goes through things SO slow, sometimes too slow. 2) she gives a review for each test with the answers so u know exactly what to expect on the tests. actually DO THE HW, study for tests, and listen in class as much as possible and youll get an A:)
She was such a horrible teacher. I am really good at math but shes so messy and difficult to follow. i cannot stand her. i went to her office hours and she wouldnt even make eye contact with me when talking to me. do not recommend unless willing to teach yourself calculus
Many have pointed out that she doesn't have a fascinating personality, but she is a great professor. AND gives an equation sheet for all exams. On final, you can use one page of notes! I studied hard for every test and got an A on every single one. Even if you are not a math person (I'm definitely not), it IS doable! :) You just have to work for it
Only 5 tests and a final so you better do good on the tests if you want a good grade. Theres no homework grades or anything to save your grade. That being said this is probably the best stats teacher you could possibly take for the sole fact that she lets you do everything on your calculator on the tests. So you need a calculator. Highly Recommend.
She made me hate math. The tests are easy and she gives you extra credit. She doesn't have a lesson plan and is typically late to class. Get ready to use the MathLab where she "tutors." Anyway, she's nice enough. I learned to read math textbooks because of her vagueness and poor structure.
She was really helpful and was generally clear (given she was teaching calculus 2) but she seemed like she did not have the class together at times. I'm not sure if she may have seemed unorganized due to an personal absence she had to take at the start of the the term. Given her absence, the entire course we spent playing catch up.
Kathy sets up her students for success. You get an equation sheet on each test, and as long as you know which equation to use at which time, you are guaranteed an A! This means STUDY, do HOMEWORK, and GO TO CLASS!
Professor Fink is a prime example of a professor who genuinely cares about her students passing. She wouldn't test us on material the week before the exam, gives extra credit, and is very VERY friendly. Took her for both M31 and M21, both classes were rewarding experiences. Just do the homework and you'll be fine!
Does not teach,
Fink is a good professor! She moves pretty quickly but its not super hard to keep up. She really wants to help you so if you get behind or confused you can go to her office and she will help you until you understand. She's a really fun person too! Her tests are difficult but if you study hard you'll do well in her class. overall a great professor.
Professor Fink is an okay professor. At first i was really overwhelmed by how fast she moves through everything but you get used to it after a few classes. She is very unorganized. Ask questions and do the homework and you will be able to get an A.
Fink has gotten a lot of hate on campus, and I have to admit I did hate her in the begin as well. I was just to afraid to ask her to explain and slow down. Her class moves fast so if you need help just follow her up to her office and she will help. If you do the homework, ask questions, and show up everyday she will offer more support and make you.
You have to know all the basics before entering! She will not review basics during lecture, when she does, its too fast. Grade is based off of 8 (hard) chapter exams plus midterm and final. No extra credit. I learned more teaching myself from the $200 book. oh& HORRIBLE PENMANSHIP. I got an A in PreCal & couldn't even finish the whole sem w/ her.
She's redundant and boring. she lectures too long and introduces untaught material on tests. plus she's really annoying to listen to
Professor Fink is very funny and friendly. She's willing to explain everything, and usually uses graphs and/or pictures which makes 3-dimensional calculus much easier to understand. Entire grade is 5 tests (She dropped our lowest).
Kathy is alright-grades on a weird point scale so you never know what it's out of. Not very hard but a tough grader, for some reason her lectures didn't work for me (Thanks Professpr Leonard!). Altogether probably easier than Nguyen
Good thing shes retiring shes a terrible Math teacher. She purposely made her exams really tough because of that one genius guy. She is a terrible terrible terrible math teacher. Which Is probably why she doesnt have a PhD because shes horrible teacher math wise
Overall Kathy did a good job. I felt her lectures were not the most organized, and she would skip a couple of things that were in the homework, but she always made sure to lecture you on what she was testing you on. She has a good personality with some dry humor. Do the homework and make sure you understand the problems, so that you are prepared.
About 22 years ago, in Fall 1997, I took Calc 1 (Math 25A) with her. She is not bad at all. I worked 60 hr/week and I made sure to always attend the class before mid/final exams where she is willing to show us what she will be testing. She was motivating me to study harder. I got B and am very happy!
