Awesome teacher. Take if you get the chance
Instructor is pretty easy- but she comes across disorganized and confused during her own lectures. Work was easy I guess but not a lot of education took place in her class. As long as you can conform to her standards of what?s important at the time you'll do fine. If you want to learn actual principles of accounting, keep shopping.
Nice prof. She tries to use real world examples which is nice. HW somewhat time consuming. Reading the chapter ahead of time WILL help you. Lots of pop quizzes. Mandatory "lab" on Fridays. Memorize the practice tests and you will do fine.
GREAT teacher, really loves teaching her subject and it shows. VERY nice, VERY helpful, her or the ULAS are literally always there to help. Read chapter before lectures, and you'll do just fine in this class and enjoy it as well. I learned a lot on how manufacturing works, different side/view of accounting. Easy A if you do the work and keep up.
Screechy. Yells at students while lecturing. All tests are handwritten in a blue book... stupid.
she was a little wacky especially for early in the morning, but the class was not that bad. So much room for earning points thru (pop quizzes) that are easy and attending labs on some fridays. If you partner up w/ someone its not that bad. and hw is graded based on completion only which is nice. tests were semi-hard. I'd recommend her though!
Kathy is a great Accounting teacher. She lays out everything you need to know for her tests, gives plenty of practice tests to make sure you know info. Homework assignments can be tough, but you turn them in for completion grades so you don't have to get the info correct. Take her for Accounting 206!
One of the best accounting professors at BSU! Really explained managerial accounting and did not waste your time with busy work. Homework and labs are based on completion. Exams can be hard but is based on the same format as the practice exams she gives. Go to class, study the practice exams, and you will pass with an A!
Kathy is a great professor. There's a lot of homework in this class, but it's all worth it for learning. I did very well on the tests because I studied hard beforehand. She gives review days before every test and she won't put anything on there you haven't seen. Kathy is probably one of my favorite professors because she's upbeat and you learn.
She is a wonderful prof who truly cares about her students and their education needs. Read the chapters, do homework, and study guides and you will do very well.
She is definitely a bit "whacky" but also is a very nice lady who will bend over backwards to help you out if you show her you are putting in any kind of effort. She is not the most organized, but I think she's still figuring out how she wants class to be run for the greatest benefit to the students, which is what all good profs do. Recommended!
TAKE HER! I also had her for 303, she's GREAT. She's a little whacky, but that's what makes her fun. She TRULY cares about her students, which is hard for me to say about a lot of professors. She really gets to know you, and she wants you to succeed. She may not be the most organized/not always 100% clear, but she cares. Keep up & you'll get an A
Def take her for accounting, she is a great teacher. Overall class was pretty simple. really works well with students. she gives practice tests and they are almost the same as the real test. Super good teacher.
Hurley is a pretty good professor and a very nice lady but she is VERY scatterbrained and is prone to mistakes on a variety of things. The hardest part of the class is keeping up with all the errors that are made by her. Other than that, she is extremely helpful, very fair with grading, funny in class and brings real world experience. Recommend.
Great professor, she really cares about her students understanding the material. If you go to class and do the in class assignments the tests are easy.
I absolutely loved having Kathy as a professor. You could tell that she knew what she was talking about and had real world experience. She's always more than willing to help and wants you to succeed. Yes, she is a bit scatterbrained, but she's also funny! She'll teach you what you need to know about the accounting cycle. Highly recommended!
Kathy is awesome!! She cares about the students and wants everyone to understand the material. She explains things so they are easy to understand and the structure of her class helps you retain the knowledge for test time.
This professor was fun and energetic. She was very helpful and did not make you feel stupid for asking questions.
She's the best Acct 206 teacher. Do your homework, attend all of the labs, and study for the exam and you'll easily pass. Her test reviews are what usually will appear on the exam, so study hard on those. Very approachable and helpful and takes extra time to help her students understand the material. Very organized and understandable.
Kathy really knows her stuff. This was the first semester she had taught 206 for a few years, so it was a little rough at times (and confusing). Tests are pretty tough, lots of concepts on the first and last tests. Come to class, pay attention, read the book, and you should get a good grade.
3 tests make up the bulk of your grade. They are EXACTLY like the practice exams (just different numbers) I literally rewrote the practice exam over and over and got an A on all of them. For homework, you get half credit for completing it before class, and half for doing corrections in class. Gives easy participationquiz points in class.
I struggled with ACCT205 and was expecting to go into this class and have a super tough time. Kathy made this class easy to understand and follow. She gives practice exams that are similar to the exams so as long as you study and review those you should do well on the tests!! I loved this class and was actually able to understand what was going on
Best Professor ever. easy A
Kathy is amazing. She really cares that you know and understand the material. She is very clear on her expectations and it's very easy to get an A if you put in the effort. This is the first textbook I have ever read from front to back in my college career. You need it! You don't need to go to pass, except on HW and lab days. WOULD RECOMMEND!
Kathy is great. Her lectures are straight to the point, helpful, easy to understand. The only thing is she assigns a lot of little homework tasks (5 points each) that add up. Can get a bit frustrating to do them twice a week. Other than that, she is great and you actually learn things from her.
good teacher show up to class and do the homework and the test will be easy. plus she gives out practice exam questions with solutions that are identical to the tests.
Kathy rocks! Although her classes are W/F in the morning, I would recommend taking her over a night class. She truly cares about her students and hand grades all of our tests. She is always fairly quick to reply to my emails, and wants you to succeed in her class. Her tests can be difficult, but as long as you do the work, you will do great!!
Kathy is a wonderful teacher. She makes sure you understand the material and gives you plenty of opportunities to improve your grade. The tests are extremely hard so you do need to put the work in to get a good grade. Wish she taught more upper division classes because I would take all my accounting classes from her if I could.
One of the best teachers at BSU. Fantastic class setup. Show up to class, do your homework(there's a lot). The tests are kind of tricky if you don't practice doing problems. Save yourself a lot of time and stress and take this class from Kathy. You definitely won't regret it.
I didn't learn anything in Acct 205, so I was pretty concerned about Acct 206. Kathy's lectures are mandatory and she lectures for most of the class time. You do "labs" once a week which apply the lectures to the real world. This class is not easy by any means, but you will learn lots. I had to try but learned so much. Highly recommended professor.
You get the annoying learnsmart assignments almost every class, they can take like 10-20 minutes. Starts each day out with 3-5 question quiz on what we read on learnsmart. Other than that she lectures like a normal class. You have a lab about every other week, pretty easy. Best part is she puts up example exams, just study those and get an A or B
One of my favorite professors! She was really enthusiastic and made it fun! Make sure to stay on top of assignments because there is usually 2 or 3 due every class. There is a lot of work in the class but she gives you plenty of resources to get help on assignments. Just do the homework assignments and go to class and you will pass exams.
Attendance is mandatory because you will have quizzes every beginning of the class. There will be reading homework online every week and lab project most likely every week. It seems a lot but it will help you to understand the class and pass the class easily. Kathy cares about her students a lot and want them to succeed. You will also have TAs.
Was really worried the first few weeks of class this was going to be a hard and overwhelming class but once you get the hang of things it isn't bad at all! There are a total of 5 tests but she provides you with previous tests to study from and lots of other resources that are extremely helpful in knowing exactly what to study for the tests.
I love Kathy. She's not going to make it easy, but she is going to make you learn. She really cares about the students, and you'll leave the class with a solid understanding of accounting. She is tough, she will make you work, but she's also one of the best profs I've had. Take Kathy if you actually want to learn. Don't if you plan to slack off.
Kathy cares about her students performing well and goes above and beyond to help them succeed. The exams are very similar to practice exams and problems in the textbook. If you listen to her advice you should be able to get an A. Her assistant Regan was a really helpful resource and also a total hottie. Befriend you TA it'll help alot.
Kathy is a great professor! If you're going to take managerial accounting, take it with her! She's fair, kind, and if you do the work, you're guaranteed to pass. Take her class, you won't regret it!
Amazing teacher, she helps you if you help yourself. She is very fair. She is hands down the best teacher I've had at Boise State. I took her for accounting 206, and am taking her for accounting 314 in the summer. Take accounting classes from her.
Kathy genuinely cares about the success of her students. She will provide you with the resources you need to understand the concepts and pass including the TA's she has available to you and their wide range of tutoring hours. She has an acceptable amount of homework assigned, which is the core of her lectures and the exams. Do them.
Her lecturing skills and knowledge of accounting are exceptional, however, she expects her students who don't know much about accounting to be working at her class with the same intensity that she currently does in doctorate school. The tests are very dense and timed with not enough time. Average for exams so far have been low 60's, doesn't curve.
Good grader. If your struggling go to tutoring and office hours she wants you to pass. Quiz questions are similar to previous year so look at quiz solution before class. Do all the work and even if u hate it u will still pass
The class itself is a hard class to master, but she provides all the resources you need to pass. There are weekly learnsmart and homework assignments. She does post past tests and practice problems, and the exams are EXACTLY like those. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Make a study group, it will help tremendously.
Great instructor, totally recommend taking accounting with her.
Kathy is one of the best professor I have ever had. There are 4 exams plus the final, but she lets you drop one. There is homework weekly & labs that allow you to apply concepts that you learn to a case study. She goes over homework & problems from the book in class, which really helps. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS! They helped me get an A on every exam.
Professor Hurley has been my favorite professor at BSU. She explains every assignment very clearly and works hands-on with each student during the Friday morning labs. Tip: Go to the lab as early as possible to get more one-on-one time with her and other TA's. She was an amazing teacher.
Homework takes hours and are huge frustrating assignments, because she structures class so you teach yourself everything, then she goes over the hw in class. Fridays are labs from 7am -12pm, which is basically just more hw, so if you have another class before 12, reschedule. Worst class I've taken here, you're paying to teach yourself everything.
Kathy is an awesome teacher. At the beginning of the semester, she seems strict and tough, but she is a really nice lady who wants her students to succeed. There is a decent amount of homework, but it isn't graded for accuracy, only completion. Lots of points available make it easy to pass and she prepares you very well for exams.
Kathy definitely makes you work for your grade. She wants everyone to actually understand the material. Labs aren't too bad if you go the accounting lab & tests follow practice test formats. Put in the time and you'll be fine.
You have to stay on top of this class or you won't pass. Lots of assignments and some labs. It's very demanding, but all of the work that you get will help you to understand the materials for the tests. She wants you to be successful but won't take it easy on you. I recommend going to the tutor hours or Kathy's office if you need help.
She's not a very good teacher at all. She assigns a ton of homework that she hardly has time to discuss, expects you to teach yourself the content pretty much. It is nice that the homework is an attempt grade but doesn't help if she can't explain it all in class. Several exams that are nothing like her practice quizzes online. Would not take again.
Accounting 206 is a very challenging, time consuming, tedious course. Kathy really doesn't make it any easier. She wasn't a thorough teacher, and would move extremely fast thru problems. And she wouldn't do many example problems, so the class didn't get much practice. Tests are hard, lots of homework, labs every other friday. Miserable class truly
This class is already hard enough and her teaching style just makes it absolutely miserable!
You will get out what you put into this class. If you are having trouble, its really easy to get help from the TA's. Kathy is really good in group settings but not very good 1 on 1. There's a lot of homework but it is graded for completion so if you do it you'll do fine. Final is optional if you're happy with your grade. Very structured class
DO NOT TAKE!!! She will not teach you anything. You are responsible for learning the material. She assigned an insane amount of busywork with no intention to make you learn anything other than keep you busy. She even said she expected half the class to fail her tests. IF you want to learn managerial accounting, don't take her class
The class is very organized and there is unlimited help offered, however, you must show up to class or your grade suffers. The tests are extremely hard and you must study.
I did not like Kathy AT ALL. She judged all of her students so much, belittled us and made us feel dumb. She doesn't teach well and or answer questions, just makes you feel like a total idiot for even asking. Not helpful, not a super hard class, but she is terrible. I would not recommend Kathy but you will survive if you put in some decent work.
sHe Is jUsT RuDe.
Talk to her after you take the tests! Even if you dont do so great you will more than likely walk away with a few points from corrections! I got back a total of 30 points on all the tests just by going in!
Be prepared for REQUIRED labs outside of scheduled class time on Friday's. I definitely learned a lot, but Kathy definitely makes you feel unwelcome to ask questions. I relied on TA's for help in order to avoid feeling stupid when asking questions. She definitely makes you work for your grades, but it is do-able.
Kathy is a smart lady but forgets that most of us dont know as much as she does. She likes to talk down to students and does not accommodate at all! Labs are absolutely mandatory if you want an A, as well as attendance. The tests are very hard and timed, the practice exams are the key to studying for them. Also use the tutors! They will save you.
Kathy makes you work hard, but only for your benefit. If you show up to lectures and ask the TA's for help, you will be just fine. She truly cares about her students (she also is a faculty adviser for Beta Alpha Psi) and wants you to succeed. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and would recommend her to anyone!
Prof. Hurley will make every effort to make the class as difficult as possible, despite the fact that the course material is not very difficult. She's also a control freak, and make plenty of mistakes throughout her lectures as well as exams. She is also a real stickler for rules and will afford her students absolutely no leeway. (Don't take her)
Worst teacher I've ever had. Not only is she just rude and disrespectful towards students, she also gives A LOT of homework and the tests are super hard and the labs are even worse. Overall worst class ever do yourself a favor and take it with a different teacher.
She really cares about students learning the material and not just pass by and forget it down the road. A lot of homework and class REQUIRES effort. It's a easy class if you honestly try, and material is explained great by Kathy! Previous rating don't really show the truth behind the class. If you stay ahead of the class by a week, it is very easy
Definitely knows her stuff but forgets that this is a mandatory core class for COBE admission. She treats and lectures as if everyone is going to be an accountant. If you like tons of homework and are going to be an accountant, Kathy is definitely the right choice for you, otherwise, look elsewhere.
I have learned so much throughout this course. Always be aware of upcoming assignments and take advantage of the tutors! They are always there to help for homework and lab.
One of the most disrespectful and annoying teachers I've ever had. She consistently talks down to students and tries to belittle our efforts to communicate with her. She makes a fairly simple course much harder than it needs to be. She is overly controlling and claims that she's helping us when she's hurting our academic lives.
I struggled in ACCT205 and only got an A in it because we went online halfway through, which made me nervous to take kathy's class. But now I know and understand more than I thought I would in an accounting class. I was overwhelmed by this class the first week but once you get in your groove its all good. There are 5 tests and she drops the lowest.
This has been the worst class I have ever taken. If you value a good GPA you will not take this class with this professor. I have had no idea what i am doing the entire semester., and she's no help at all. You have a ton of homework. Tests (5 of them!) are ridiculous and no matter how much you study you wont know the information. BEWARE this one.
One of the hardest classes I've ever had! Homework heavy, test heavy, and on top of connect and handwritten homework, you also have handwritten prep problems do. Homework due every other day! tests are partially handwritten. You have to remember formulas and how to create balance sheets, etc. Beware and good luck!
The online course is just not the move. The lectures are boring and hard to get through and get runs late every time lecturing, no one will asks questions because she kinda makes you feel stupid for asking them. the labs are hard but the TA's are life savors. the tests make no sense and thats all i have to say. do ur homework, theres so much
DO NOT take this class, the online course was not it, maybe it would be better in person but I had such an awful experience. So many labs and exams, don't even think I passed test. The TA's are lifesavers though. good luck. you will need it.
I don't know how she is a teacher still. She is so rude and this class was an absolute struggle. I would study hours, help from friends, TA's, chegg and it was almost not enough. What ever you do DO NOT TAKE Kathy. If you Are an "A" and "B" student you are in for a rude awakening...
Probably the hardest class I have taken. The material isn't that hard, but there's SO MUCH hw it's like a part time job for just one class. If you are going to be an accountant take her bc she really knows and teaches the subject thoroughly. If not save your GPA. CH reading, hw, prep problems, a lab, & videos due every week. Exam every other week.
I personally didn't struggle that much with this class. Yes, you have to put in the work, but if you do the homework, practice exams, and study, you should be fine. There is quite a bit of homework, but it's just graded for completion. The practice exams are almost exactly like the exams themselves, so always do those. The TA's are super helpful.
I took Kathy during COVID so I had to take in remotely, with that I will give her some credit as COVID can be difficult to navigate. You have to study, do all the homework, and show up to every lecture or you will not pass. Luckily if you do all the homework and extra credit the tests wont hurt you too bad. I am an A-B student & really struggled.
Kathy really cares about her students and the material. This class is hard as hell. For a 3 credit course, expect to spend 1.5x-3x the amount of time/effort. TA's really help, labs help, homework helps. Embrace the content, there's no shortcut. Kathy's instructional videos are a life saver too, walks through most problem types you'll see on tests
Kathy Hurley is awful. One of the worst professors I have ever dealt with both because she is INCREDIBLY condescending and rude but also because she flat out does not know how to teach her course. She expects you to put the amount of time and effort into her class as if it were your career yet gives you ZERO tools to succeed. WORST PROFESSOR EVER.
Class Wednesday/Friday? Homework due on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It seems like there's an exam every other week. She has absolutely zero problems giving out 6 hours of homework one night, and 4 hours the next. Extremely tough grading as well. If you don't submit something correctly, automatic zero. No 2nd chances. Id rather teach myself
Where do I begin, Kathy Hurley expresses a deliberate lack of concern for the quality of life of her students. She assigns ENDLESS homework that is mentally degrading and is an absolute redundant waste of time and life. By the end of almost every single assignment of hers I am on the verge of a psychotic break. DO NOT TAKE KATHY HURLEY.
Time and time again Kathy Hurley shows me and all my fellow classmates that she is completely and entirely horrifically bad at her job. This class has proven to be the most unbearable use of my time in my entire existence. I would rather take calculus 8 times over thanks to none other than KATHY HURLEY. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS.
Im currently in Kathy's ACCT 206, remotely. I hate it. I spend 8+ hours a week doing homework, on top of going to class, tutor hours, and studying for the class. On one of the exams, the average was a 60%, and she DIDNT curve it. I'm a straight A student and I got a 64% on the exam. Avoid taking her if you can.
She's a good professor, a bit all over the place. 5 exams, drop the lowest one. A ton of homework. Just show up to class and do the work and you will be fine.
Never take her course
This was by far one of the toughest and worst classes I have ever taken. The work load is excessive as if it was our only class we were in. Exams are hard so study up! Class and lectures weren't helpful to me, I had to teach myself almost all of it. Tutor hours are your best friend. Avoid this class if you can.
If you're reading this and are deciding whether or not to take her class, TAKE IT! I learned so much from this class and changed my major to ACCT. She drops 11 assignments, 1 exam (can be the final), and also had 51 points EC. If you apply yourself and spend the right amount of time studying, you'll be fine. It's not hard, just a lot of work.
This class was honestly the hardest class I have taken thus far in college, but I do have to give Prof. Hurley some credit. She does provide tools for everything if you are lost in the class, as well as extra credit opportunities. It is an insane amount of work and I spent most of my time on this class, but I learned a lot.
worst teacher ive ever had. Does not teach a single thing and only cares if her students are wearing masks. expect to spend hours on homework. Tests are very hard.
She's one of those professors that have assignments due at 8 am so when you check the calendar and see that two assignments are due Tuesday, you go "Oh cool I'll start it at noon" when it really was due 4 hours prior. She only cares about her students wearing masks and I'm convinced she lives to see her students fail. Stay far away from this class.
worst class I have ever taken & I have to teach myself everything. you will be in tutor hours for at least 3 hours a week if you even want to get close to passing. she also makes stuff due at 8am, only gives one chance to turn it in, & does not accept late work. also wastes at least 20 mins of class telling ppl to pull up their masks. avoid Kathy!!
Kathy is one of the worst teachers that I have ever had. In class, you will learn nothing because she lectures about covid or rambles about completely useless topics. Kathy only teaches the last 15 minutes which is nowhere near enough to succeed; the only way you can succeed is by taking an extra few hours and looking at her notes in the module.
Class is homework INTENSIVE. She has five 200 point exams, drops the lowest (can be the final). She allows 4 exam extra credit points for those who made few errors. The averages are Ds on each exam but thus far, I have scored 100% on each one due to the practice quizzes and extra credit practice exams(LIFESAVERS). Takes big effort. 51 points EC.
Currently taking this and it is BY FAR the worst class I have ever taken. She loves making you feel like an absolute idiot. Extremely strict about everything for no reason. I have been living in tutor hours. I would never tell anyone to take this class avoid it at all costs. Also extremely unorganized which makes it even more stressful.
This class was incredibly hard. I took this class at another college and failed there and the differences between kathy and the other professor was night and day. There is a ton of homework and it is an incredibly frusturating but kathy knows what she's talking about offers you alot of help to learn the material. Very hard class but a good teacher
I think Kathy gets an overall bad rep but even though her class is tough, it is manageable. She is one of the only profs for this course and while she is a tough one, she is not the worst. I ended up with a pretty solid grade after putting in the effort. Put in a few hours a week and set up a study group to work with and you will pass.
ACCT 206 is so hard and Kathy isn't like the best teacher the whole semester but then at the end, she drops a ton of assignment grades and the lowest test grades. She also offers a lot of extra credit. TAs come in clutch.
Honestly, this is not an easy A class. You HAVE to work for it, go to tutor hours outside of class and find a least one other person to study with. There are 8 labs that are on almost (what it feels like lol) every friday that you don't have a class. Some take up to 5 hours to finish so good luck. It's hard, but if you actually work you can do it!
Everyone says how hard this class is but tbh I just showed up to all the classes and studied about 4 hours the morning of the test and walked away from the class with a 93%. Show up put in a little effort and you'll be fine.
If you went to the office hours and did your work on time, you will do fine. Kathy cares about her students but her personality isn't for everyone.
Professor Hurley was awesome! She cares so much about her students and is super good about giving students more points. Super understanding!!!
This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Prof Hurley expects everyone to understand the material easily the way she does. 3 assignments per chapter with the third taking 3 hours minimum (all handwritten). She once told me I would fail because I wasn't doing the in-class problems at the speed of light. GO TO TA TUTORING!!
She is an absolute mask hound in class. She yelled at me interrupting a guest speaker cause I was putting my mask on as I was walking into class. Super rude as well good luck business majors.
She assigns tests the day before spring break, and then the big semester analysis project the day after. She doesn’t have respect for your time as a student, and has weird times for due dates like at 8 in the morning
This class is just way too much for a three credit course. Labs almost every Friday, five exams throughout the semester, etc. She and her TA's are rude and make you feel dumb for asking for help. God forbid you don't have the time to spend eight years a week on this class, or else you won't get a good grade. Take this class with anyone else.
Was not the biggest fan of how she helped you prepare for tests. She gave us a good amount of outside tools to study for but once you took the test it was on completely different stuff. YOU HAVE to put in extra work outside of the classroom in order to pass. Think Kathy forgets that this isn't the only class we take, prepare for a lot of homework.
There is no way this class should only be 3 credits. It takes up so much of your time and almost every friday is spent doing labs that take hours. There are so many tests and they are all very difficult and long. If you want to pass you have to put in a huge amount of time outside of class and pretty much push all your other classes to the side .
Honestly Kathy will make you work. She is very good at helping you learn though. She wants you to succeed. As long as you do your work and pay attention you will do fine. She prepares you for the exams and as long as you pay attention and ask questions. Everyone says it's a hard class but she just actually makes you work. Really not a hard class.
avoid at all costs
I worked four or so hours on this class every day over the six week summer term and it still wasn't enough sometimes. There was a test nearly every week. It was a lot of work. Very possible to do well but I can't imagine having the energy to do well if you have literally anything else going on in your life.
Thought it would be a phenomenal idea to give us practice problems for the exam, that she herself couldn't even complete!! Expects students to correct her on her mistakes when she is the one that is supposedly teaching us the material!! She has no flexibility when it comes to homework assignments, and goes extremely fast when reviewing them.
This is awful and the class just started this week
She's a nice person, it's just a lot of hard work that she expects you to learn about immediately
I go to every class and take all the notes and still struggle. Her class is genuinely hard and refers to everything Fred taught you (she knows he didn't teach us anything) and pretends he did. She even says you have assignments that take 4-5 hours and lists it. she excepts no excuses to miss class even if you're in the hospital and have proof.
Kathy doesn't like to use class time to go over any problems related to the material. Instead, she talks at us and invites guest speakers to tell us about their day jobs and why accounting is important; none of which is helpful on an exam. I've resorted to watching YouTube videos to actually teach me how to apply the material.
She created accounting assignments that were hours long each that it just became a chore to do the assignments. I also don't understand why there are a total of 5 exams in the 7 week online course. The 4th exam is due the week before finals, and then the final exam is due the week of finals so it is back to back exams.
Kathy wants to see her students succeed and does provide the right resources for students to thrive. This class is valuable as I learned things I will take with throughout my business career. Show up for class, take notes, complete the homework and you are sure to pass!
Kathy is very rude and has very negative vibe. I wish the best for her and her lecturing but honestly not everyone is infatuated with accounting. Expect to have double to triple the amount of homework of a typical class. I would STRONGLY recommend taking this class at a different university.
The class is very difficult, but Kathy knows her stuff and is a good professor. Show up for class, do the homework, take notes and you will be fine. She drops the lowest exam grade, 2 lowest assignments, and 2 lowest HWs. There is extra credit available. This class gets a lot better after the first 2 months or so.
Professor Hurley gives every opportunity for a good grade in her class. She sets high exceptions but provides extra credit to make up for any "bad day" low grades. She makes herself available during office hours to explain questions one-on-one. She is encouraging--often hand grading work to give students as much credit as possible.
As difficult as this class was for me, it has been the only accounting class I have actually learned anything in. Attendance is mandatory. If you are taking this class, for sure utilize the help of the TA's and tutor lab--they were so helpful.
I learned a lot in the class. She gives good lectures (required) and there is a lot of help from the TA's and GA's. There are five tests. She drops the lowest test and few homework assignments. The class is a lot of work but if you show up and cram it out, you should get a decent grade. No late assignments allowed. Can be rude at times.
This is a tough class and you will have to work for your grade, but Kathy clearly cares very deeply for her class and her students and she goes out of her way to assist them.
Kathy is truly an incredible professor. If you attend her lectures, complete the homework, and give yourself ample time to prepare for exams, then you will be able to be successful in this course. I definitely plan on taking her classes again- she has been my best professor at Boise State thus far!
Math person? Great! Not? Go elsewhere. I approached her for exam support & the only advice she had cared to give me was to "know everything." If you aren't math-savvy, it will quite literally feel diminishing when you meet with her. She is biased towards accounting majors. I still don't know how I passed upper-level SCM and not this gateway course
She drops 1/5 of the exams. If you miss an exam, due to being sick, she will average it based on your other exams. You also get extra credit for good penmanship.
Although this was most definitely one of the hardest classes I've taken. If you do the work you will be 100% fine. The exams are hard and you MUST study for those but you will do well if you do put the time and effort in. People don't like her class because it's difficult (which it is) but they aren't willing to put the work in to get a good grade
I have now gone through all of my classes and she is by far the worst professor I had at BSU
She is not a good person. She is very rude an not accepting of outside circumstances. I am a 3.8 GPA student and have a good track record when it comes to school. I missed 1 week of class because of family issues and was super rude when I asked her for clarification of what I needed to do to catch up in the class.
Hard class but super sweet and energetic professor, made a friday 9am fun to be in.
I had Professor Hurley for the second time for 302, and she is a wonderful professor. She was extremely reasonable, and taught the material well.
Actually took ACCT 314, but it wasn't an option. Kathy is the WORST professor I've ever taken. The actual course load isn't bad, however she expects you to remember everything from acct 206.Our last group project is basically acct206 stuff and nothing related to 314. She yelled at us and told us that we're not allowed to use the tutor lab. AVOID!!
DON'T TAKE HER!! She takes off points for the unreasonable things. But when she makes a mistake it's all fun and giggles. Her book didn't make sense with the homework we were assigned. It's confusing and frustrating!!
She is loud by all means, the class basically teaches you how to do last night's hw... By showing up to class can even get extra credit sometimes. The TAs are very helpful. The exams are open noted by limit. I mean I did not like her personally, but she seems to be a cool person. Take JoAnn Wood
It's a tough class, but if you put in the work, you'll do well. The professor is energetic and makes it engaging. Unstuck study helped with exam prep alongside the textbook and in-class notes.
She is a great professor very energetic. She loves if you go to office hours to get to know her. Her class is hard and the exams are not easy but she does allow notes with a limit of a page on her exams. And she also offered a lot of extra credit as well as an optional final to replace your lowest test score.

Don't take Kathy Hurley! She expects students to have the material presented in each chapter memorized by the second assignment. She treats students like they are professional accountants, but I think she forgets that we are not as smart as she is. Trust me, AVOID at all costs!!
Terrible professor, doe snot teach well and always adds a twist to test, if you get under 70% on an exam you have to have a meeting with her to discuss study habits. Also you need to get a 60% average on all the exmas to pass the class. wouldnt take again
Terrible professor. Treats you like a little kid yet expects you to have the knowledge of a professional accountant. She does not respect her students or their time. Avoid like the plague.
no no no no no no
horrible time
Okay I think everyone says that she's absolutely horrible, do not take her but thats kinda overdramatic. I will say that the tests are hard and if you don't go to class, do the homework or listen, you won't do well. She gives 4 assignments a week but some are graded on completion. As long as you study and know all the material, you will be fine.
Kathy is a great professor, this class requires effort! She provides all the materials to succeed. Don't just rely on lectures—read the chapters. Lab days are invaluable for understanding the material. Exams can be tough, so review labs and the study guide. Show your work for particle credit. Kathy is willing to meet and the TAs are great.
I have to say that this is one of the most unforgiving classes I have ever taken. She expects you to know how to do absolutely everything she mentions within a few days. Most of the assignments are hand written and there is an 8am assignment that is easily forgotten and will drag down your grade. The tests are ridiculously hard and heavily weighted
very loud and the test are extremely hard. very confusing mix of assignments between canvas an my business course.
RUDE professor snaps at students with questions and makes students feel like they cant ask questions. 2-3 assignments a week, homework assignments and exam study guides are nothing alike making the course confusing. 4 exams worth 66% of your grade. I was able to do good in this class you just have to try and study and get through the rudeness
Part 2: She doesn't care if you need help because she thinks it's funny for students to struggle. I feel like this job is just a ego boost for her so she can see all her students fail at something she knows how to do. She thinks we all live and breath accounting. She needs to be fired or put in jail for the crap she puts her students through.
I enjoyed the accounting class for Kathy, going into the class, it was intimidating since she required handwritten assignments throughout the week, however I believe it led me to succeed in this class, the TAs were useful and the lectures actually helped me learn the subject. Also, Friday labs were a breeze and you could be out of class way early.
I think people are being a bit overdramatic. Yes, Kathy can be obnoxious, but I don't think she's a bad person. The class is hard and you need to put in a lot of effort to succeed so don't expect to slack off and be fine. The negative reviewers need to understand that this is college and not every class is going to be super easy with no work lol
Kathy is a typical college professor. She has high expectations and also understands you are human. This class takes a lot of time with homework and studying, but her grading is semi-relaxed. She can be annoying and rude sometimes, but truly wants to see you succeed. Going to her office hours to get help is worth it; she's a lot less scary there.
Kathy is a tough, fair grader. You deal with the TA more than her, but she has good people doing that job. Class is lecture heavy and paying attention in class is a must otherwise you will fall behind. Everything builds on itself. She drops 1 exam,1 HW and 1 other assignment. This makes the cumulative final optional. Easy to ace if you study.
I learned a lot in Kathy's class because everything is hand written. I also liked her teaching style. The tests are worth 60% of your grade so make sure to study for them. She is very condescending so don't be afraid to stand your ground with her! This was a really stressful class so make sure to use the tutor lab a lot!
I highly recommend NOT taking this professor, she is very strict, her teaching skills are pretty terrible, i basically taught myself the entire course because she was an awful teacher. The TA's are a million times more helpful than her. She overcomplicates the class greatly.
Lectures are violent, unclear, and overwhelming. She makes simple concepts way harder than they need to be. She requires that all work, tests, and notes be done on paper and it makes accounting so much more difficult and not relatable to the real world. She uses a high pitched, screechy lecture voice close to the cadence of a drill sergeant.
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD IN MY ENTIRE 4-YEAR TENURE AT BSU. I had a 3.9 GPA until this f*king course. Insanely unstructured. Kathy does not prepare before class. She raw-dogs every lecture and rambles on about sh*t that does not pertain to federal taxes. Exams are a mess, grades are inconsistent, and she is hypocritical about quality.
Worst Professor/Teaching figure in my life. Kathy Hurley obsessives over her credentials but doesn't deliver comprehensive teaching. She belittles students during lab days, tends to laugh at them when they ask "dumb" questions. The course material for Accounting 206 is not hard. The most difficult part was her as the professor.
Avoid at all costs. Not afraid to make fun of students for asking questions. Everything is done by paper so formatting is never properly learned.
This class was one of the most difficult classes I have taken at BSU. The ONLY way you will pass this class is if you go to every lecture, every lab, and do EXTENSIVE studying outside of class. Kathy is extremely strict and her teaching style is quite unique. Be prepared to teach yourself multiple concepts if you do not understand them in class.
Kathy can be a very hateful person. If she wants you to fail you will fail. I had to bring my concerns to the dean because of how serious they were
Not a bad class. Labs were super helpful, they are critical for your class grade. My only complaint is the time duration for the homework, estimated 2-3 hours on a homework assignment for a COBE pathway seems a bit much. BIGGEST TIP: utilize your resources before exams. Look at practice problems and posted solutions, that is how you will succeed.
