you really need to read the book to be able to pass the class. most of what is on tests is from the book. there's also a lot of notes and sometimes way too many for one day.
Do not take this class. Trust me, i thought it was going to be easy, but it's not. Says she "cares" about us yet she hands out bad grades like their candy. She also only correctly answers questions of those she likes, and gives convuluded answers to the rest of us. If you want to waste a bunch of your time and get a crap grad, take this class.
I too thought this would be an easy class, but didn't really like it. She nitpicked at my project and on one test, she used a bunch of statistics, which threw everyone off because there was other information we were focusing on. I felt her notes were too extensive. Some lectures are interesting and if you read you can do well.
I absolutely loved this class! She really knows what shes talking about and gives examples of real life experiences making things really easy to understand.I rarely used my books, but when i did read them they were actually really interesting. The projects are easy people are just dumb & dont know how to follow directions lol!!! I hilightly recommend
This was a pointless class! the lectures would be based more on her personal life rather than what we needed to know for the test. The study guides that she would give the class would not help the test would be on something different. I would strongly reccomend not taking this class unless you can read her symbols and like taking pointless notes
Awesome professor! Unique style of notes, but she explains the shorthands the first day of class so just pay attention to that. Tests are from lectures/book and gives study guide so you know exactly what to study (I never read the book at all until I got the study guide). Very knowledgeable & relevant lectures, entertaining, HIGHLY recommend!
This professor is awesome! She's the reason I'm now a Psych major as well as 3 other people I knew in this class. She gives you a study guide before the test so just study that information and you'll be fine. She explains the information very well and welcomes questions and answers thoroughly. Very easy, entertaining, and funny class.
Too many notes, but pretty easy tests. Make sure to write at least 5 pages for the paper that is worth 25% of your grade, not 4 1/2 pages! I got a B on it, but just study what she says to study and you will get an A or B. A lot of ppl in my class this semester however are doing poorly and may disagree with me.
I took her for 3 different Psych classes. She is a great teacher. You need to take lots of notes and use the text a lot. But the stuff really is interesting and I learned so much from her. You can also do projects that may help ur grade. Tests are HARD so study study study.
HARD AS HELL. I'm taking the class right now, and am having alot of trouble with it. She means well, and tries her best to keep the class interesting. But when it comes to test and the outside requirements...it makes this class not worth it! If you want a challenge, take it. If not...don't.
She is AMAZING! Such a nice lady. My favorite professor this semester. You need to work hard though but she tells you this the first day. Lectures are very interesting&important.Gives you a study guide before every exam, so if you become familiar with the guide, and look over the notes you will be fine!
Took for psy2 at WI. This is the most ridiculous, horrible teacher I have had. If she doesn't like you she won't help you. She talks to everyone like they are stupid and if you aren't religious your in for a hard time. My husband and I took her class together and she said our marriage was "doomed". Avoid at all costs. 2 students went to dean.
Read the text book and prepare to study, study and study. its not an easy class but she has lots and lots of entertaning stories to tell, that's what i like about going to class. 1st test was hard, cuz i missed 3 sessions of class, got a D. 2nd Test, Got an 89.9. Go to class, take notes and read the book.
this lady is retarded. doesnt even go over test and the test are not even that hard, but people end up with**** grades
Expect a bad grade in this class...period. At the end, you're overall grade will turn like a dime by the time she's finished. And her WRC readers are no good either.
Dr. Johnson was pretty cool! Love her lectures they were pretty funny and intresting. Her exams were kind of hard, but just study off of the study guide. Very thorough in what she wants to see on a project or essay.
She is a great teacher. Reading the textbook is needed. You have to take a lot of notes. She is patient. You have to do a writing program, and that part is pretty useless and doesn't relate to the class. But I did enjoy this class, and I felt like I learned a lot. She is nice, and tells personal stories, and she is short.
I mean she's a nice lady, and its not hard work, but unless you want to write 20 pages worth of busy work for a LOWER ge class, DON'T take it.
she gets off topic a lot and talks about her personal stories which can be interesting but it does get old. even though she doesnt tell you to you should read the text book. make flashcards on lecture and from book. over she is okay
She likes to use her lectures as an excuse to force her morals down your throat, none of it pertains to the class, and the WRC section is impossible to work with and useless. Take Thackery.
The class itself is not as hard. She loves to tell her stories. The tests are pretty easy but you really gotta study the notes, study guide and the chapter. Her note taking skills are very stupid and confusing and her hand writing is pretty weird. other than that the class is alright, its just hard to take notes if she writes them.
The person who said she likes to use her lectures to shove her beliefs down your throat is soooo right!! The class as a whole is not hard i just did not like her. Use the study guides!! Study them and the notes and you will pass the tests easily. IF you can find a better professor i would take them. You have to do a lot of pointless writings.
Don't be intimidated by the syllabus. She gives good lectures and she is willing to answer any questions you have. There is a schedule of reading but she gives a study guide before the test. She is very thorough in what she wants from assignments. STAY ON TOP OF YOUR JOURNALING ASSIGNMENTS!!! She was very sweet and I would take her again
Great teacher
She is a great teacher. I had an easy time in this class. 4 midterms, 1 quiz, final, and WRC where you have to do papers and experiments. For tests, she gives a study guide where you need to study lecture notes and parts of the book. Overall, an easy and interesting class.
I found this class to be really easy. She is very clear what she wants and what she expects. If you do that you will get an A easy. The tests are straight from the notes and study guide. The paper was challenging but she offered help. Overall I thought it was a great class. She tells stories to keep the class interesting. I would recommend it.
She's great at stating what she wants. just follow the rules and you"ll get an A.the only thing would be that she imposes her ideas on her students. she also gives skewed facts when lecturing on religion. she is religous and will show it in her lecture and topics. but other tan that great teacher.
She is a GREAT professor, she cares about the students, and helps with study tips that Actually work! You just have to keep the effort up. Her stories are interesting, I recommend her. Also, you should attend class because 50% of in-class notes are on the test and 50% from the text. If you study then, you will not have any problems!
She is such a nice professors, one of the best that I've had so far. You do have to put in the effort to get a good grade in her class. She gives you instructions, but if students aren't willing to follow directions then it's gonna hurt their grades. She's very nice & helpful, and she also tells you what will be on the exam as well as a study guide
Great professor. Be sure to read all the chapters and complete the study guides. Work hard on all the projects and go to her office hours at least once a week to get clarification on something; trust me it'll help. Other than that just go to class everyday and pay close attention. Also, try to sit as close as possible.
Very interesting teacher, she does have an attitude tho. Talks about personal experiences and it helps. Reading is very important and she docks A LOT of points if your essays aren't the EXACT page count.
Great professor. Be sure to read all the chapters and complete the study guides. Work hard on all the projects and go to her office hours at least once a week to get clarification on something; trust me it'll help. Other than that just go to class everyday and pay close attention. Also, try to sit as close as possible.

People need to stop complaining! Yes, her note taking is different but if you just do the work then it's easy to pass! She really gets into her lectures too showing that she cares. Plus she gives the class a study guide! Great professor(:
Awesome Proessor but tough to get an A! She is an awesome human being as well!!!
Interesting and amazing class, you'll have a lot of fun trust me. The exams aren't easy, but if you fill out the study guide and understand the lecture you'll get an A. I'm not a psych major but she makes me want to almost switch to be one.
First of her handwriting and abbreviation style is horrible. I could never understand what she was writing. Talks too much about herself and her marriage. She's somewhat rude when you try to make a comment. Class is easy to pass as long as you study for the tests. Found her annoying.
The professor is very opinionated and can be quite offensive to students when voicing her opinions.
Awesome class, learned a lot. Her handwriting isn't THAT bad! Of course you have to study to get an A but the material is very interesting so it's not that hard to. You have to use the book! Exams are 50% lec and 50% book. Go to every lecture, take good notes and you should do just fine in her class.
This class should really be titled “What Kathy Thinks.” She doesn’t even have children, so I don’t understand why she is teaching a childhood development class in the first place. Its not a hard class, I just highly disliked the teacher. If you have the opportunity to take it from another professor, I would HIGHLY recommend doing so!
I loved taking Intro Psych with Prof. Johnson! I felt like she made psychology fun, especially with her quirky anecdotes. It is true that her exams are difficult but if you attend every class and study with the study guide every test will be a breeze. Seriously, don't skip class though! I did once and was lost for a week!
Go to every lecture and you'll see how amazing she is at clarifying everything. It's becomes an interest instead of work. Use the study guide towards the text book and just study your notes as well and it's that much easier. Great at teaching just fyi.
Must do well on test in order to get a passing grade since they count for the majority of your over all grade along with 2 projects. Attendance is not mandatory. Test come from text book.
you have to be there to take notes every single day or else you miss something.
Reading & textbook required. Cool class. Kinda hard if you don't pay attention and study. I failed her class.
First off she talks about herself a lot, she does get off topic often but she is a good teacher. Lots of note taking and she hand writes notes as she lectures which is so frustrating because her handwriting is awful. It's hard to focus when you're trying to figure out what it says. Tests can be hard, just follow the study guide, review the notes
Spnds 1st day tching abt her note taking style. It's different (eg no vowls like wht Im doing right now), but u bttr undrstnd bc she writes fast & smtimes sloppy. Got all A's on everything; hnstly didn't think class was hard. Just MAKE SURE to fcus on stdy guides by reading book & study ALL of the clss notes (so missing a class will be detrimental)
I liked Professor Johnson. She was funny. In order to do well you have to attend lectures to take notes and read the book. Exams are half lectures and half book. If you study you will do fine.
This class is difficult but you can do well if you put in the effort. Also dont miss class because most of her test come from her notes. Her lectures can be pretty interesting. She is really nice and you can tell she enjoys what she does. I would take her again. Just expect to work hard. 2 projects,3 test and a final. Go to class and do study guide
Go to class, end of story. You will miss so much notes that she uses for the test. Buy the books, you'll need them.
Buy the book, go to class. I got A's on every test and quiz, but in order to do that you have to know the material. She makes things easy to remember by relating them to stories. Definitely do the study guides and make note cards and you'll be fine, it's not as hard as people make it out to be.
The textbook is a must to pass the class. Attendance is not taken, but once you miss class you fall behind. All the tests/quizzes are based on both the lecture and text readings. There is a writing assignment and 5 research things you have to participate in, which I thought was a waste of time. You do learn a lot though. Not an easy elective class!
Professor Johnson was very sweet. She always had great stories to tell and made every lecture interesting. I really did learn a lot about myself in there. Her tests are what seemed to be difficult for an elective class. Not the material, but the wording was confusing sometimes. There is a lot of material to get down for every test. Study, study!
Johnson is a must have professor for Psych. Her passion bounces off onto the students. I learned something interesting every lecture, along with her stories made me want to attend class. Her tests are easy if you follow the study guides and her lecture notes. Don't forget the writing portion which is graded quite strictly, done outside of class.
I took this class during summer school. Textbook is required by 2nd day of class so get it as soon as possible. You have to read it on your own time as she doesn't lecture from textbook. It's also extremely important to attend class because the final is 50% lecture review. She does not offer any extra credit. Be prepared for lots of stories
Professor Johnson gives horrible notes. She abbreviates everything she writes so it's really hard to understand what she wants us to know. Apparently you need to read the books because that's basically the whole test. She tells a lot of stories about her church and her husband, so if you're into that then you should take her class.
She doesn't take roll so attendance isn't "mandatory", but if you want to pass the class then its best if you show up and take notes. The book is a MUST to have. 3 Tests(HARD), Journal Assignments throughout the semester all due at the end (easy), Self-Modification Proj.(time-consumingkinda hard), and the Final. & she grades things so STRICT.
This is a terrible teacher, she will preach about how Jesus saves and God speaks to her. The psychology of the religiously insane.
I absolutely loved taking her class. The class was very interesting and she makes the lectures pretty fun too. Her tests come straight from her lecture notes and assigned reading so you need to do the readings. Awesome professor!
Her class isn't hard or anything, just not super interesting, goes on and on. Attendance isn't apart of her grade, I went to class 13 of the time and passed with a B. She gives out study guides for every test, it's about 13 from lecture in class and 23 from the books (so they are a must). Just put some effort & go to class, you'll get an A or B
Most teachers I have seem to lecture a bit from the book, so if you read the chapters, you have everything for the test. Not in this class. She lectures in class about random facts and articles she finds interesting. These you can only get from being in class, all these are on the exams, as well as info only found by reading the book yourself.
Loved her class. Probably my favorite class I've ever taken at state. She is a phenomenal professor as well as person. Take her class!!!
Loved Loved Loved this class. She is an amazing professor & really loves her job. Tests are not too difficult, gives a study guide. Does not go over the textbooks but her lectures have relations with the material in the book. Only one project, but is a very helpful project. Would love to take another class from her again.
She gives great lectures and really tells you how it is. Her tests are pretty hard but yet Im about to take psych 10 with her next semester. I loved her!
If you're looking for a lot of work for a GE class and God, this might be the right class for you! She basically tells you how to live your life by how she thinks life should be lived. It may seem inspirational to some people but your life will be fine without taking this class. There is some insight that could be useful but it's not worth it.
Kathy is a wonderful professor and she's very nice. She gives study guides before the exams and I would advise you to actually take advantage and look through the textbook for the answers because that's all on the test. Lectures are pretty interesting.
Tests based on exams and lectures, lectures have too many personal stories. Exams are difficult. Must read textbook. Do not skip lectures or grab lecture notes from a friend. The way she does lecture notes, she has her own style where she takes out vowels and shortens are her words. EX: check mark -ing suffix & - -tion suffix. Confusing notes.
Johnson is very knowledgeable about the subject, she includes real life stories/examples that make the class easier to understand and be interested in. I enjoy going to class. Psychology is a subject with lots of information but she lectures in a way that makes it easier to understand and do well in the class. Take her advice and you will do great!
great teacher! so knowledgeable and interesting. do the reading, go to class, study the study guides and you are good to go!!
For her exams, just study the lecture notes and study guide and you are good to go! There is no need for you to read the entire chapter. A few questions are tricky, but overall the exams were easy. Her real life stories related to the info learned in class and made the course even more interesting. I definitely recommend her for psych 10.
This is the best professor I've ever had. she is so full of light! She's so adorable and so passionate about teaching. she brightens up the day! I would have her again !
Her tests were difficult because there is too much to study. You have to study the lecture notes AND the study guide. It's easy to get a C or B on tests. You can skip class as long as someone takes notes for you but she doesn't give makeup exams or extra credit.
The subject matter in this class is phenomenally interesting and relevant to everyone's life, as it covers basically teaches you how to be whole as a person. Would definitely take it again if I had to. Ms. Johnson will always be there for you. However the exams cover material from lectures and the 2 textbooks, so reading the material is essential.
The class is broken up into two parts. The first is your typical lecture, where you come to class, take notes, read textbook, take tests and quizzes. The other is an online portion where you will write a 750-900 word essay and have to participate in 5 psychology studies (the psych studies are easy and it's best to sign up early to get it over with)
Took this class Fall 2015, she has great lectures. Some quizzes & tests require your notes so don't miss class! She gives you a study guide for every test but you have to read out of the book to answer the study guide questions. She has some jokes every now and then so the class will fly by quick. Love listening to her stories, they're interesting!
Took this class thinking it would be easy but nope. Professor was really nice and interesting but she gets side track ALOT!! Talks to random student about random subject during lecture. Gives you study guide but it is VERY BROAD! Half of the test are on her lecture and half from the book. If you can try to take a different professor.
Her lectures are super interesting and practical! You have to do a lot of reading in this class though. The tests are both the lecture and the reading material that she doesn't really go over during lecture. Doesn't take role, but need lecture material for test! You will also have to write a essay for the overall class throughout the semester.
I would recommend this class to anyone! Basically she teaches you ways you can become a better person. No, she's not telling you how to live your life. She uses lots of real life examples and psych studies during lecture which is really helpful! Go to lecture, read the chapters, do the study guide and you'll pass the tests. :)
I took this class about a year ago, she is an awesome teacher! I would recommend taking this course with her, it won't be easy and her class is never dull. She was very straightforward, she actually taught me to better understand myself.
It's definitely a fun class to take. Nice professor and lectures are riveting. The first day she'll teach a different style of note-taking so you can take faster notes. The textbook costs like $170 but if you look hard enough online, you can find it for free. 4 midterms, 3 quizzes, 1 comprehensive final. Tests are combo of lec notes & book.
She uses a WEIGHTED grading scale. So you CANNOT just add up all the points you get and divide by the total possible points. She gives study guides 1 week before a test. Study guides are a list of topics from the BOOK that will show up on the test. To do well, you have to crack open the book and write/type down EVERYTHING pertaining to the topic.
The tests are a combo of what she lectures and material from the book. Doing the stdy guide and writing down all the info on the topics are the only time I ever used the textbook. Tests are about 45-50 multiple choice questions. They're not difficult like some might claim, you have to study and put in effort, and not study last minute.
The study guides are a list of topics from the book that could be on the test. To do well, you have to crack open the book and write down EVERYTHING related to the topic. For example "cognitive dissonance." Write down everything that is related to this topic and try to encode that information into your head. And study all of the lecture notes.
Professor Johnson is hands down amazing when it comes to lecturing. But in order to do good in this class you have to read the book and put in your hard work. Just make yourself interested in the topic because her lectures our based off of mainly lots of personal stories that help connect ideas. Just read ahead and you'll be fine. Can't slack off.
The are 2 parts to the class. Lecture is a must because it is what the tests(majority of the grade) are based off. No homework for the lecture. The 2nd part of the class is easy, just essays and experiments(don't wait till the last minute) I loved the class, you learn so many interesting things and am actually going to be taking her other class!
Easy A if you study and follow directions for papers
I've always love psychology, but I just don't want her as my professor. Her study guide was super vague. Her instruction for our big project was confusing as hell. Her final was the worst exam I ever took because not just because we have to study new information, but she will add previous lecture notes.
1 project. 1 journal assign. 3 mid terms & 1 final. Final was review & new material but VERY manageable. Tests were based off of lecture and 2 textbooks. Definitely keep up with the reading on your own if you want to pass the tests. Prof Johnson is amazing! Keep an open mind and you will surely get a lot out of her lectures.
She gives study guides but out of her 50 Q exams about 12 are from the study guide. She's constantly talking about herself and her family's life. Go to class or get lecture notes from someone. She doesn't round your grade, she specifically says "89.5 is A 89.4 is B NO EXCEPTIONS"
Amazing Professor. As long as you read the textbook and go to class you should be able to pass. I love her lectures. Although attendance is not mandatory, her lectures are going to be on the test and most of the things she cover in class aren't in the textbook, so I say just go to class. Her lectures are amazing anyway!
Tests are are 1/2 lecture and 1/2 text- she gives study guides which are really specific to what she's looking for on the test, so I'd suggest completing the study guide. Some people complain about they way she abbreviates her notes during lecture but as long as you listen and use your common sense you'll know what shes writing. Overall, easy class
You HAVE to go to class, her lectures are great and you'll need the notes. Many students thought she was hard but her exams are easy as long as you take the time and read the text book. You NEED the textbook to study for the exam. Her big project wasn't too difficult, just don't put it off till the last minute. The journals are EASY.
She was pretty thorough in her lectures but let her bias show on a few of the topics which distracted from the point of the material. There was a lot of reading involved and I recommend you stay on top of it if you want a good grades.
Johnson's class was by far the least motivating class I have taken which is ironic being that her class is about self modification. She's a bit rude without realizing it and she has no problem marking you down on simple mistakes. Talks too much about her church group and her stories that she thinks has to do with the lecture serves no basis at all.
4 tests, 3 quizzes, 1 final. Tests based on lecture/book (doesnt take attendance but you must go to class/read to do well;lots of reading BUT its interesting, just space it out &youll be fine). Other part of class online(essay & participating in experiments-easy).Study guide covers all test topics. I didnt find this class hard, just put in work
4 exams, a few quizzes, and a final. Interesting lectures, and if you do the study guide the tests are really easy.
4 exams, 3 quizzes, and a final! As long as you read the book and go to class for notes, you should be able to get an A! She gives a study guide for all exams, and quizzes, so as long as you do those, you should be fine on them! I usually did not study til a day or two before the exam, and was still able to pass the class with an A!
The class was fairly easy, however this class is slightly reading intensive. The study guides help a ton and basically tell you what to actually read. Johnson herself tends to tell a lot of life stories and is quite religious (you will hear about it a ton). There is a self mod project which is about 5 pages I believe, and a 10+ page journal.
Mrs. Johnson is a real sweetheart. She really cares for her students. A lot of textbook material is on the test, so reading is a must. One major project, journaling assignments, 4 tests, and 1 final.
Professor Johnson is an okay professor and she provides lectures by telling stories about herself. Her notes a abbreviated most of the time, where she uses symbols for vowels and ended with ing. However, the only complaint is when you ask for assistance, she tends to discourage you and shows attitude even though when put a lot of effort to work.
Even though you put in too much effort and time, it is impossible to get a higher grade. Harsh grader. Do yourself a favor to keep in touch with the textbooks, class lecture, and do work concisely to pass this class. Do not make any mistakes! Docks points. Tells a lot of personal stories that keeps you out of track. Hard to keep with with notes.
If you want to be completely annoyed every time you go to class, this is the course for you. Not only does this professor say things that make you want to rip out your hair, but she doesn't always portray psychology very truthfully.... I am in the 4th week of this class and would drop if it wasn't required.
Her lectures are boring, and are mostly about her life. She is more like a preacher than a teacher. She talks a lot about religion, her life, and diets and such. Her class is super reading intensive, and she assigns three textbooks to read. She also assigns two huge projects and if you don't do well on one, then you are at an automatic C.
She sucks, I should've dropped the class when I had the chance. She doesn't give us any reading reminders, doesn't post any power points, and her not taking strategy is the worst! Even when you put the time and effort into your work, it seems to never meet her expectations. She is also very confusing when it comes to giving instructions.
I like the class, but I would not recommend taking this professor. Very discouraging when it comes to grading. Very tough grader. Marks you down for no reason even when you put into effort and follow instructions. Impossible to get an A in this class. Tests are "tricky." Be careful of the huge project because she never gets satisfied with things.
Johnson is a good professor. If you're going to take psych 61, just know that you'll be expected to read quite a bit, and you'll be required to do a self-mod project, as well as journal assignments. The project and journal are pretty easy to do, but don't wait till the last minute to do it. Her exams are also easy, if you use her study guides.
Johnson is a nice person but not a very good professor. The notes for her class are hard to read because she abbreviates every work and her handwriting is sloppy. The project she makes students do is a lot of work and she grades very tough on it. Her study guides are not helpful and are very vague. Way too much work for a GE class.
Very bad professor I dreaded going to class, extremely boring. lectures are useless and test are extremely difficult.
Attendance is not mandatory, however you absolutely need to go to class for the lectures because it WILL be on the test! Its a psychology class so the test are quite difficult b'cus answers are very similar. Requires 2 books to read for hw, expect about 3-4 chapters to read. It WILL be on the test as well. 9 journal entries + self-mod project
This class does get boring but Kathy is a great professor. She provides study guides for all the tests and they are basically the tests. I would recommend to all Fresno state students who havent taken psych 10 or who didnt pass to take her over summer. You dont have the WRC or extra stress of the Fresno state psych 10 course.
Lectures are about her life and her religious beliefs. Tests were very easy due to a study guide thats similar to exams. The projects she lectures a lot about how to do the projects and expectations for it yet does not meet her own expectations and marks you down. Reading? Yea a lot. She says she cares but discourages when you ask for help.
Entire class depended on tests. If you are not a good test taker I would not recommend taking her class.
All of her lectures were about herself and her religious and political beliefs. The only lecture that correlated with the exams was the last one, which was mainly about herself and what she believed. Her lecture about psychological disorders was not handled well as she was practically making fun of them. She was not very helpful either.
Mrs. Johnson is a very inspirational professor that usually leans towards her religious beliefs but also respects others religious beliefs. She connects her lectures with everyday lives. Heavy reading to achieve a high grade. Textbook is needed as well an another book. 3 quizzes, a final, and two projects total.
This class was an easy A for me because I have taken PSYCH 10 with Johnson. I recommend doing the study guides and attending class to be able to ace the exams. For the self-mod project and journals, I honestly do not think she's a hard grader at all. As long as you show that you've learned something throughout the semester, you should be fine.
Attendance not mandatory. She lectures off notes. Class lecture is half her knowledge and part of the book. You must read if you want to pass. 4 quizzes, 3 exams, Final.40-60 question exam & final. She posts a studyguide a week before every test. 20% of the grade was on an essay graded by someone else which really helps the final grade.
Kathy was easy to listen to, did not take attendance, and graded everything based off of tests and 2 projects that were relatively easy. I liked listening to her lectures and most of her material can be applied to real life situations which I really enjoyed. The tests were pretty hard but I didn't study very well and still got a B.
Amazing teacher. Go to class and read the book/do study guides and you will get an A. She is super sweet and her lectures are very interesting.
She's a nice person, but her class is terrible. There are two textbooks that you HAVE to read, a semester-long project, and journals. Attendance isn't technically mandatory, but you absolutely need the lecture notes for the exams. Overall, it's just too much to ask for for a GE course. Should probably sign up for a different professor.
Professor has amazing lectures that are very interesting. I would recommend taking this class because its easy if you work hard for it. Make sure to show up to class and read the textbook you will do fine. Best professor to teach psych 10.
Would take her again. Her lectures are interesting. Make sure you go to class and read the book. She is a tough grader and the class is weighted, not by points which sucked...
I didn't find the class very engaging. Maybe because lectures move 100 miles a minute. It was hard for me to stay engaged in class because she just talks and you write/type all class long. It was very time consuming studying for exams because you have to study her notes and the book, & her notes usually didn't supplement the book.
Memorize the study guides and class lectures because that'll be exactly what's on the test. If it's not mentioned on the study guide or lecture, it won't be on the test. Lectures are interesting beuase she really gets into it. Unless you have a friend that gives you their notes, don't miss class. Also she will not round your final grade up, I tried
No homework at all, unless you count the WRC component. Overall, she is an amazing teacher and the class is just as great. I highly recommend her to incoming psych students or for those that wish to have an easy GE course. Study the notes and READ THE CHAPTERS if you want to pass!
Great nice and well spoken teacher. She makes study guides and if you do them you will for sure get an A. My only critique is that she would sometimes rant about how horrible the president is and other political things that she clearly did not have much knowledge about.
Average professor, only 3 assignments, 3 exams, 1 midterm and 1 final. All notes for exams can be found online especially her study guides. Class attendance was not mandatory, I think I showed up only like 10 times in one semester but its important to go to class because most of her exam questions are based off her lectures.
Dr Johnson has a great personality and explains psychology well. However she only grades on tests and quizzes. I attend every lecture she has and read the book, however, I still only get Bs on the tests. Besides that shes pretty chill.
Professor Johnson is an okay professor, she does not round up your grade unless its .5% to the next grade level. 4 exams w/ final, self-mod project and 17-19 journal assignments, Finished semester with an 87%, you have 1 journal per week but it is all due near the end of the semester. Get ready to memorize her lectures and read a lot of chapters.
Professor Johnson assigned 4 midterm exams and 3 quizzes. They each utilized portions of our lecture notes and readings from the textbook. If you follow her study guides and practice, you can definitely pass her class. She makes the lecture engaging as well. Also, make sure to complete your WRC since it also 20% of the grade. I definitely recommend
Mrs. Johnson is great, she really enjoys what she teaches and she cares about the students. She has a unique way of taking notes, but just stick with it and it'll make studying way easier. I would highly recommend
Dr. Johnson is an amazing professor I really enjoyed her class. She actually wants you to learn and not just read and copy of a powerpoint. Uses real life examples which are very helpful to remember the material. BE READY FOR WORK FOR THAT A!! do the readings, study guides + study lecture notes. It is tough but you will learn so much from her!
GO TO CLASS! Half of the quizzes/exams are based off the lectures, and the rest are based off the reading. Professor Johnson is horrible at replying back at emails, so if you need to talk to her attend her office hours. I never really read the book, just did the study guides and reviewed my lecture notes. The WRC readers are tuff! So do your best!
Doesn't use Canvas calendar. 3+ emails a week w/ assignments & never in advance so you can work ahead & have time off. If you have a life other than this class you will get behind. Crazy amount of work. Arrogant & constantly promoting herself. Has her own note taking system & tests on it after saying it's optional. Non responsive & abrasive.
THERE IS SO MUCH WORK FOR THIS CLASS! I do not understand how people manage to ace this class. I have never had a class with so much work and content, and yet so little amount of things graded. I do not recommend if you are a full-time student or have a job outside of school. It is a lot of work!
She does her job in explaining the definitions as best as she cans and often includes examples, too often. She grades well and is a very positive person. I just wish I had to take her in person, since it felt like the daily assignments (MWF) just seemed vague and would take little retention from the class overall.
I honestly do not like her class. She never posted assignments so we never had a chance to improve our grades, we only had exams. By far the worst professor I've had
This Professor is so amazing! I had to retake Psych 10 because I failed the first time and this second time I took it with her and it was the absolute best! She does have her own writing style and would like for you to do it the way she teaches you, but I chose to write my notes the way I do them, and I managed to pass the class.
I had taken this Professor in a previous semester, so I already knew her note taking style. This class was pretty easy, you have a big project of writings that you work on throughout the semester.
Only 3 exams and a project out of the whole semester! She gives No extra credit opportunities and she has her own writing style that's hard to follow. She's hard to get a hold of outside of class as well. Take other courses with someone else if she teaches a class you need.
If you want to really learn Child Psych. Do not take her!!! She has her own writing style which is hard to follow & read and shes tough when it comes to exams. Also, major project due at the end of the semester and shell even critique that. Take with Granata instead
No extra credit and a project due at the end of the semester. Shes informative and understanding but not a real good professor in the long run
I had to drop this course it was so hard to follow. I really was wanting to take this class because this is the field that I want to get into, and I figured the class would help me. She seemed really tough.. her wrong style is pretty hard to follow too.. Im disappointed.
If you want to learn about Child Psych, don't take this professor. Her writing style is hard to follow as she abbreviates everything, not to mention there is no extra credit, discussions, etc. Her class is solely based on exams and even those are tough. A major part is the project due at the end of the semester, worth a lot of points. dont recommend
We are approaching the end of the semester and I can honestly say most students will probably receive a failing grade. What others say on here about her is true. Her lectures are long, her note taking technique is all over the place, and absolutely no room for improving your grade. She made that clear in class and was rude about it

I had to drop this class before the deadline because she was just all over the place. Her writing style was hard to follow and she came off as condescending to us students. I was looking forward to this course, but I'm really disappointed! I don't recommend her
I don't recommend this professor as she's just all over the place in general. She comes off as condescending and doesn't seem approachable to us students. The class mostly consists of 3 exams and ONLY those 3 exams, which are hard within itself. 1 Major project at the end of the semester, which is a "parenting project" (but im not a parent)
1. 7 journals writings -700 words ea 2. 3 exams -hard, based on 2 books/lecture 3. project -extra af class is ok but kind of a lot it you don't do any flashcards/studying, you really have to work for the grade, attendance mandatory for the exams, she barely used canvas, no homewk, she speaks kinda fast when lecturing, handwriting sloppy at times
If you plan on taking this course with Johnson, PLEASE make sure you do a study group or create a groupchat for this course as it'll be more beneficial than the actual professor. She's all over the place, her handwriting is sloppy, she abbreviates everything which is unnecessary, and all it consists of is exams. I'm barely passing with a low C.
Professor Johnson is a horrible professor, I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER. She comes off as condescending to us students and she isnt approachable at all in class. Her handwriting looks like she writes with her feet and she abbreviates every SINGLE word and it's a waste of time IMO. She relies grades on exams and she turns PSYCH 101 into a religious course
She was okay. There was only five things in the grade book, three regular exams, a project about family (too long and very tedious), and the final. She does abbreviates a lot of the words which I did find helpful, not a lot of people liked it. She does seem mean at first, but she is kind of nice. In class all there is lectures and read the book.
Make sure to study, if you don't YOU WILL NOT PASS. Our grades are based on our quizzes, test and final only. We had a quiz or midterm every week or 2.
Just trash
Lectures are long and boring, no peer interactions in class, exams solely based on the book and the exams are even difficult. She just seems all over the place and not very friendly. I had to drop the course because it was just hard to follow.
This class is test and lecture heavy. You need the text book! There's 4 midterms, 3 mini quizzes, 5 mini assignments worth 1%, and a final. If you want to pass the course you need to pass the exams. Professor Johnson is caring and funny, but has very strong opinions.
She can be a good professor but a difficult class. Your grade is based on exams. If you fail the exams you'll fail the class. You need the book and need to study.
Shes amazing in giving lectures. I love her note taking skills but you have to attend lectures since half of the exams are part of the information she gives in lectures.
She was really sweet and cared about her students and always mentioned it. There were 3 exams throughout the semester that were pretty easy and 1 paper that we complete over the time of the semester. Had open availability if you have any questions which was sweet. Easy class overall.
Currently taking, and the Professor is all over the place. Her own note-taking technique is whatever but not something I'd keep doing. Overall, people stopped showing up, no extra credit, exams only, and one big element project. Grades are based on those three things only and leaves no improvement for grades. Do not recommend
Professor was great, and really nice. Her note taking is a bit wonky, but her stories and caring nature makes up for it. You end up having a lot of laughs if you have an active class. Only thing, though, is that you should not take her class is you have/are in recovery for....a "disorder of eating". Lady has some issues with that & you can tell.
I dont recommend this professor if you're looking to learn something about Child Psych. Her writing technique is odd and hard to follow. The class consists of 3 exams that are hard because they dont even correlate with the book or powerpoints, then theres a parenting project due at the end and she'll critique that if you're not a parent as well
In all honesty, the reviews here really threw me off. I think Professor Johnson was amazing as long as you showed up to class, took notes, and studied the study guide. The study guide is insanely helpful if you actually do it. One big paper but if you do the elements as she gives them out it is very simple. Lectures could be a bore but still great
Grades are solely based on exams and if you bomb just 1 of those, it'll affect your grade drastically w/ no opportunity for improvement. Parenting project due at the end of the semester. She gives you time to complete it but I was honestly confused about how she wanted it done. Overall 6/10. If you want to really learn, I don't recommend her
Only 7 grades put in, no extra credit, no assignments here n there to boost grade, terrible note taking skills, looked like she wrote with her feet, takes out vowels in her words so it was impossible to read notes, super biased and hard to approach. If you didn't agree with her, you were wrong, so she grades tough. Always talks about Biden too...
I should've looked on here before deciding to take this course with her. The course itself is informative, but she doesn't make it engaging or fun which for me it makes the material hard to grasp. VERY rude about exams and no opportunities to improve grades (class is based on exams so create a study group)! Abbreviates alot and talks about politics
For being a basic PSYCH class, this was a lot of work and no opportunities to bring up your grade (grades are solely based on exams). She seemed off putting to me, so I just stop going to class and relied more on the study group that was created. They were more helpful anyways.
I was taking this class for my major/ elective credit she is really precise on giving her opinion on lectures for specific chapters and overall don't like how she teaches you really have to attend her class everyday to pass make sure you look at the syllabus and her exams are weighted huge part of your grade
This professor is amazing! Her lectures were so great and always were engaging us. There was a lot of reading and studying I had to do to get an A. As long as you put in the time and effort, you'll do great in the class.
I wouldnt recommend this professor if you truly want to learn about child psych. Tbh it really was more of a child development course than actually looking at the "psychology" aspect of a child. Lectures were long and boring with no class interactions. She writes horrible and abbreviates everything. Grades are solely based on exams.
She's a very sweet and kind professor. But do beware with how test heavy her class is along with it being textbook heavy. Similarly with the WRC part too
This is a basic psych class and she had no idea what she was talking about, seemed more into herself than her students. If you failed the first exam, your grade drops drastically. I don't recommend her as she's unapproachable to students and not really helpful. Glad overall was boring with no interactions with students.
Professor Johnson's class is challenging, but with the right study habits and tools like Unstuck ai, it can be manageable. The exams are tough, but attending lectures and using the textbook and study guides help.
This course and professor are a little all over the place and it is lowkey boring because there's no student interactions at all, nor any interaction with the professor. She is very off putting and a major part of the class is the exams. If you bomb one exam, your grade will drop drastically. I don't recommend her at all.
Few assignments. Shoot for A's/B's if you want to pass. No extra credit and no opportunity to discuss grades. Lectures are boring. Thinks she's doing you a favor for teaching you to write/read her chicken scratch. My advice, use voice to text or type what you hear during lecture. Pushy on pro-life stuff… Easy class if you can ace all the exams lol.
DO NOT I repeat DO NOT take her, her exams are somewhat hard if you didn't attend class or read the textbook. You don't have to attend class but it's better in order to take notes for her lectures. Beware that she is political and transphobic, idk why she's still employed here. I highly don't recommend taking her class.
Very biased in her teaching, very self indulged. Doesn't interact with students at all and is very harsh when it comes to grades, extra credit, etc. Will not meet students halfway to at least improve their grade. Exams are weighted HEAVILY on your grade, so if you bomb one exam, you're screwed! Very political as well.. idk how she's still there
If you need to take pysch 10, DO NOT take this professor. There four midterms and a final and 3-4 quiz. The midterms are impossible to do good on. She does not help you at all and if you go to her office hours and just tells you to study with flashcards. she also has a lot to say with controversial topics. 0/10 class.
This teacher is BAD. Her lecture style is awful, she constantly voices her opinions, is very political, and talks negatively about people she is related to and knows. She reveals a lot of private info about others and it's unprofessional. She also doesn't know how to admit her mistakes and has a weird superiority complex. I do not recommend her.
Okay overall but only lectures, doesn't post them so showing up matters, & has own note taking method. Talks a lot abt family issues. 5 graded assignments: 4 exams (40-50 questions each) & Parenting project (2500 words min, due late oct) Project had 8 elements that r posted thru out semester, she posted half of them abt 2 weeks before it was due.
This Professor is by far the worst! Comes off as condescending, self-centered, talks about politics, family, and seems transphobic. Graded a few things and tests are solely based on the book. You fail one, it'll bring your grade down drastically! Very unapproachable and doesn't meet students halfway at all! Idk how she's still at Fresno State
A lot of reading required for this class, but a lot of stuff on the exams is common sense. There are about 8 journals and they have to be about 700 words each. Do not wait until the last minute. If you put the work in, you can get a decent grade. It is difficult to understand her notes sometimes, though. Overall, she is very nice!!
She was very conversational, and we spent most of the class just talking about her life. She seemed very caring. My only complaint is that she spent a lot of time talking about religion. Although she didn't force her religion on us, she only talked about traditional opposite gender relationships. It's obvious she's traditional.
Taught some interesting things, but her workload sucked for being an intro psych class. Lectures are important to attend, but she also assigns reading homework that's long /tedious. Shes SUPER religious and takes an annoying moral high ground on many things because of it, including psych topics she should really be more objective about.
This teacher is very political and religious, she pushes her views onto the younger generation . Does not know how to accept fault and always blames students for not grasping lecture. I experienced personally a lot of second hand racism.
This professor talks about religion almost every lecture. Some questions on the test even seem like they push you to favor religion. She only talks about traditional man and woman relationships, which is weird because most of us are psych majors. Psych majors aren't very traditional at all. She tells us we should save ourselves for marriage.
Idk how this professor is still at FS. Talks about religion too much and shoves it down our throats like I get it, but it should be a personal choice of ours. Gossips about her family also. Parenting project that was tedious and worth points, and grades are solely based on the exams. You bomb one, your grade drops drastically. I don't recommend her
For being a basic psych class this professor is by far the worst in terms of explaining Psychology and just as a professor all around. She talks about her family and herself constantly, won't meet students halfway, seems very stern in terms of grading and won't be lenient at all. I feel she needs to retire already. She just sucks as a professor
Most students do not understand that psychology connects to the real world. This teacher does speak about her family/friends but it is always connected to her lectures as a way to enhance the connections to real life scenarios. Attendance is not mandatory and is not graded, however she does have you sign in but it does not go towards your grade.
For being a basic psych class, I don't recommend this Professor. She seemed all over the place, took up most of our time talking about her family instead of teaching us. Has a horrible writing style which is super confusing. Grades harshly on exams, which is heavily weighted on your grades as well.
Very insensitive and made several people drop within the first two weeks. Talked about religion a lot and had an assignment that centered around it which was really only related to her own religious practices. Also treated mental illness as though it was some rare thing and talked about those with it like they were outsiders.
I really tried to give this professor the benefit of the doubt, but she needs to stop teaching. Her study guides and in-class notes are really unhelpful. This semester, the average on all the exams was in the 70s. She spends way too much time talking about her family, which, at first, relates to the topic at hand, but quickly goes off topic.
I don't know how she's still at FS. her handwriting is sloppy, she goes off topic and talks about her family a lot, and doesn't meet students half way. She talks about religion too which I get it but this is a psych course.. I just feel she should be more open minded and be willing to work with students especially if they're struggling in her class
This professor was all over the place for this class to be an intro to psych course. Her handwriting and not taking technique is garbage and I can say probably half if not all the class is barely passing. She doesn't meet students halfway and goes off topic way too much. Grades are all based on exams which can make or break your grade overall
She was very nice and I do not get bored in her lectures. However, if you do not like to hear stories about other peoples lives and how your marriage should be like her and her husbands then zone her out
The class is very easy tbh; do the notes and look at the study guide and you'll be fine. My only complaint is that she talks about religion and praises god a lot in her lectures and tells college students to not have sex before marriage because it's a sin. Regardless her lectures are easy to follow and take notes on.
Took this class as it was pretty much the only option open at the time. I didn't particularly care for her religious rants.. she comes off as a homophobe which in psych classes you should be more open minded. She just rubbed me the wrong way with her teaching style and such
I know she means well but she's not a very good professor in the long run. For me personally I felt that she shoved her religion in our faces and talked about her family and their problems way too much. Made class really boring cause we didn't even interact as a whole
Don't let the reviews scare you. Yes, she does use a unique note taking strategy, but it is not bad at all. If you don't understand something, just ask and she's more than willing to tell you. There are 4 midterms and 1 final. They're not that hard if you just study and do the study guides. You actually have to work for an A.
Great teacher, just make sure you are there for the lectures!
