I had her fro stats. The class was easy, but she got off track easily and tended to make lots of mistakes. However she was always willing to help, even said we could call her at home.
Unclear teaching method. Makes many mistakes often. Very willing to help. Crams to many sections into 1 day. We would go from 1, or 2 sections in one day to a whole chapter in one day. You can’t learn a whole chapter in one day. Don’t you realize th
took stat. class over the summer. hard class but she did a great job teaching and was always willing to help. She's a great instructor. :)
she is very helpful, however she is very picky on tests, most picky of all math teachers I have had so far.
She never smiles. She like 70 years old. She has 6 kids and complains about her youngest one all the time. She didn't even want to go to her daughter's wedding that she knew nothing about! I hate her!
She's OLD, so be prepared! She's a perfect example of how she's easy on some things (like homework) but she's extremely strict on others (attendance, talking during class) Very hard on tests, and she made at least 10 mistakes on the 1st day of class.
dude stay away take some one else man listen to me and stay away!!!!
Man...she's like a grandma. Always talking about herself and her kids, but not so much about math. She also can't teach and is CONSTANTLY putting mistakes on the board. I felt like I came out of the class with less knowledge then when I went in...BEWARE!
Worst teacher ever!!!!!!!!!!!
don't take this teacher if you want an easy class. On test days she teachers a lesson so u stay your full class time, she never lets you out early and often makes you stay late, so you'll usually be late for your next class. Also she never ever misses class, she finds a sub to teach if she can't.
Awfil. She is ALWAYS making mistakes when doing examples, but insists your exam is flawless in terms of labeling andoter details that have no bearing on how well you understand the math. Grading errors common, and you have to hound her to ensure she isn't cheating you on your points. Grade is more dependent on how you label than the math itself.
man i took this teacher over the summer. GOD DAMN SHE BLOWS!!!!!!!!!! she has 6 kids always complainin about them. she makes more mistakes then any other teachers, but she wants your test to be perfect, if you think your test is perfect you still won't get higher then a B. Her teaching is so boring it makes you go to sleep. SHE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!
SUMMER CLASS: this lady was laid back, but not when it came to grading. she made everything sound simple when she would explain it and would skip steps on the board, but take off for them missing on the test. not very clear, and not willing to help. also dont try the math center with this lady, she doesnt agree with their help. take someone else!
She is always VERY hyper, but she tends to seem to expect you to know a lot already. She assigns a lot of book homework (all of which is handed in, checked, and graded) and also with every test there is also a take home test (none of which are easy...even with the book's help!).
All i could say if u take her i wish u the best of luck!!
She was really hard and didn't even let us out early on 4th of July a few summers ago.
Even though I suck at math I got A's in my last two math classes due to help from excellent teachers... But NOT THIS ONE! She is constantly making mistakes. She forgets what class she's in EVERY DAY and doesn't know what she's supposed to be teaching. She spends hours droning on about unimportant things, then whips through the hard things! AVOID!!!
She was a sweet teacher, stickler for attendance. If you are committed, you'll do well. Cares if her students do well, but won't carry you through the class. Requires effort.
excellent teacher, very helpful and will NOT let you give up!
WTF!!! She's unclear in how she teaches. She grades your tests hard. If you forget one step, the whole problem is wrong! She's lenient on attendance. Her take-home tests are extremely hard, and the book doesn't help at all (Trust me). Overall, stay away, she expects you to know alot before you take her class.
take home tests, very hard, doesnt explain anything very well, not approachable, the only way i got a B was by going to the tutoring center, which ive never had to do for any other class, including precalc.
OK SO SHES NOT A **** OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT BUT MY GOD IS SHE ONE HARD GRADER!!! SHE TEACHES STUFF IN CLASS THAT NO ONE UNDERSTANDS AND RUSHS ALL THE TIME! SHE TEACHES YOU THINGS THAT ARE NEVER ON THE TEST AND THE TAKE HOME TEST ARE HARDDD! SHE GRADES BEYOND DIFFICULT AND IM AWESOME AT MATH AND WITH HER IM GETTING A D AND MY TUTOR HELPS ME!
I thought this class was really easy -- I'm bad at math, but I was able to get a high A. All the tests are take home, and you get lots of points for turning your homework in. I did sometimes find her explanations confusing, and she often made mistakes which were pointed out by members of the class. I never found her to be unfriendly or unhelpful
Do not take this class! TONS of homework that she checks and grades, VERY hard take home tests. She is so unreasonable and anal when it comes to grading. Out of 34 people at the beginning of the class, it came down to 13 people who stayed, everybody else dropped this class! That should tell you something...
STAY AWAY...unless you want hours of homework each week, unclear direction, rigid and unbending rules, condescending attitude, constant mistakes and misspeaks, unrealistic expectations of students, quizzes every other class, nearly 400 lengthy math problems to complete during the semester, never get out of class early..I could go on and on.
She was one of the nicest ladies that I have met. People say her class is hard becuase they don't try to get help. If you ask her she will help you any time you want. She has strict rules but following all her steps really did help me in math classes after hers. Great Teacher!
She gives really really hard take home tests and her in-class tests aren't much better. Students ahd to correct her a lot because she kept putting up the wrong answers on the board. She is really tough about attendance. Expect to study hard to get a good grade. She is a really strick grader not curving and attendance is a big part of the grade.
very boring, rude, unhelpful, very strict teacher
Yes, lots HW but it really is the only way to learn it. Tests all take home (but final) & we're allowed to work together/go to Math Lab. She's very interested in student's success & will help you if you ASK! This is college level work, if ur surprised, well welcome to the real world! Do HW + attend all classes + ask quests = get a good grade!
This lady is a bit crazy. Half the time she cannot correctly write the problems from the book onto the board. Then she will stand there for a mintue, look at the problem shes written and wonder why she did not get the same answer as the book. I dislike this teacher very much, she is nice, but as far as teaching is concerned shes not too great.
She is a very nice lady but I didn't like her too much as a teacher. She is always willing to help.
She is a very nice person, but not too good of a teacher. She puts things on her tests that she doesn't go over in class. It's understandable that she makes mistakes. Also, she unfairly gives people who are able to donate blood 5 ec points, but if you're rejected when you attempt to give blood, she only gives you 2.5. I found that very unfair.
She is a good-hearted person, but she doesn't know how to teach. If you have time to sit in the math lab then you'll do fine. People with no statistics background will undoubtably struggle. She has math errors & trouble explaining the material. Grades extremely difficult on tests I am an 'A' student and I'll be lucky to pull of a 'C' in this class.
If u came from india dont get this class bcz u will lose ur marks like me
I didn't like Mrs. Labeau at all. She teaches right out of the book. Everyday, you come in and she literally reads the text for Calculus. Anyone can read the text, but what you really need is someone to explain it to you, not just read it back and crack corny jokes. In addition to that, she is a very strict grader. My way or the highway type.
Good at one on one studies. Would not say dont take class, easy grader. But u need to be intelligent to score good. She teaches whatever she does at home the night ago. Intelligence count. But don't be over smart otherwise u'll loose tons of marks. Dont show ur skills in ur test if u know them better then her or took the course before.
I'm reading the comments of some of you and I'm just stunned! I thought she was a great teacher! When I run into her in the hall I always stop to say hello to her. She is one of my top two. I am horrible at math and it's my weakest subject, but she helped me a lot. She's also a sweetheart. Suck it up guys College is the real world!
i think she is adorable and is very willing to help when you need it. sometimes she will make silly mistakes while teaching, but who doesnt? at the beginning of her class i wasnt sure if i like her teaching, but as the course went on i did. i now have clydesdale and i hate his teaching. i was labeau back!!
She doesn't explain clearly at all. On top of that she makes mistakes every single class while teaching which confuses you even more. The tests are extremely hard, and she takes off points even if you have the right answer, but didn't work the problem her way. Overall I regret taking her as a teacher...
If math is your weakest subject don't take it with her. Wait even if you are strong at it still dont take it with her. If math it's not done her way then you get points taken off even if you achieve the right answer. It's all personal preferene with her. Good Luck
never take this teacher, even if u can know mth in your dream, her test are so tough even tutors in tutoring center are unable to help us.she want everything on her way and bad thing is u never knw what exacly is her way.she give test after the lectures n you would have only one hour to solve that.dont take her if u dont want to low ur GPA
Class is made up of 5 tests and homework due day of tests however homework is very long, not a lot of time for studying! Worst of all there is no curve and she grades very tough!
the worst math teacher i ever had. she basically just copy the text book on whiteboard, classes are so boring and she grades the tests like crazy, cutting points for every stupid mistakes... i like math but this class was pain in the ***
She is horrible. The very first test the class took everyone did poorly. She grades way to hard on her tests. Calc 2 is already a hard class, she makes it harder. I got one problem wrong on the first test out of about 12 and I got a C because of all the tiny points she takes off for. If you can avoid it, don't take her!
I got every answer correct on the first exam correct and got a D. She forgets what she writes on the board right after she rights it down. You will be correcting her for her stupid mistakes in class everyday and she will be taking massive points off for your stupid mistakes on your tests, so you will just want to kill yourself
Let me start by saying this is a difficult class reguardless of the teacher. Mrs. Labeau does make mistakes during lecture, and she does mark off for little things. But you must have good prior knowledge of math, and you must have strong work ethic. If you do ALL of the homework and pay strict attention to detail on tests you'll do fine.
She explains everything to the tiniest detail and reviews all prior math topics (Including long division.) She takes off MANY points for little things. She is kind and willing to help. Makes many mistakes. If you are in this class just to get credit, not to learn, and you don't mind working equations EXACTLY her way, this class is for you.
WORST math teacher! She will copy examples from the text book onto the board all semester. If you have a question on the hw, she usually gives you incorrect answers and makes mistakes. Calculus is Not her level, she should stick with algebra and Trig ONLY. We pay for a quality teacher for the subject and thats what we should get.
Anyone who complains about this teacher is just plain lazy....this is calc II it's not supposed to be easy!!! She explains everything that will be on the test, she's always in the tutoring center offering help, explains things very well and definitely knows her math. I got an A! Just do your hw and you'll be fine : )
Shes a hard teacher but really knows her stuff. Yea she makes stupid mistakes during class but its math, not that hard to make a mistake. She knows who the slackers are and isn't going to give them a good grade for being a slacker. You do the HW as you go instead of the day before the test and you will be fine.
horrible. everyone dropped out. 8 people are remaining in the class right now.
Wastes a lot of class time figuring out problems.
She's not awful, just annoying. If you have a graps of math at all you can work it out. She wasts alot of time on stupid life stories, she get's tongue tied and losses her place alot, which means she works the problem wrong. Sometime's it's funny but more annoying then anything. I would go with don't take her although I did get an A...
I'm not a fan of this professor. She doesnt explain material during class. You basically have to go to the math lab to get help from a tutor who will be able to explain material better than her. She gets off topic a lot and makes many mistakes. Students are constantly correcting her. This class is hard to follow unless you already know the material
She is horrible! You must teach yourself! She rambles the entire time throws one example problem on the board then rambles on. How in the world does she expect you to learn? Then she tells the class she doesnt expect anyone to understand unless they take the class more than once? Seriously? HW expectations are INSANE! DONT TAKE HER!!!!!
Impossible to follow. Class materials are difficult to relate to the book. Starts teaching material before the test on previous material.
I lived in the tutoring center during this class. I always left class confused about what she was attempting to explain. She made very easy concepts difficult, and I am very thankful for the tutors to explain it to me! I would not advise taking her.
I hate her. Second worst teacher I've had at harper. She wants it her way and no other way. You lose points if u dont circle the section of what hw ur doing. She also looks stupid with that bag she rolls around with.
I had her for Stats this semester and I ended up dropping the class because i got so far behind. It seems as though she wants you to read the chapters and teach it all to yourself and then she rambles on about unrelated things. If you ask questions she gets annoyed. I sat in class completely confused, and people would just get up and leave.
She makes stats so hard. She is very old fashioned and I think that is part of the reason she assigns so much hw and makes her tests so difficult. I went to tutoring every single day (literally) and still only have an 80%. The final is going to be killer and she herself said it is a hard test and she's glad she doesn't have to take it.
She talks about her life more than she actually teaches. She exects you to read and pretty much memorize the book. Her voice is annoying and she makes the class hard.
She does explain everything that will be on the tests in Calculus 134. Things such as notation are imperative to get correctly as she will mark off points for them being incorrect. She does the hardest problems in class to make regular problems appear easier. I earned a 98% because I did all homework, read the book, and asked questions about the hw.
I had her for stats and ended up dropping. She would use her own worksheets for class notes and then write the wrong numbers on the board, we had to correct her all the time. Half the class dropped and the only people who did well are the people who learn on their own. One girl would do her HW in class and just didn`t listen to Labeau
Save yourself and NEVER take a class with her. She is an awful teacher and needs to retire. We spend a majority of class correcting HER mistakes and we end up having to teach ourselves anyways. She is mean and gets annoyed whenever anyone as a question, which she can never seem to answer anyways. Do NOT take a class with her, ANY class.
Horrible horrible teacher. You have to teach yourself everything and the examples she does on the board are always wrong and the class ends up correcting her. Stay away from her. She's a joke and needs to retire.
She is a horrible teacher. All of the homework is worth a test grade and it has to look exactly like her homework otherwise she'll deduct alot of points. She gives very little extra credit. She doesn't give 2nd chances on quizzes, if your not there you can't make it up no exceptions. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
Worst class I have ever taken. I'm a hard worker but received a C in the class. If you ever ask a question (which I do often) she will make you feel like a moron for not understanding. She often makes mistakes in her model problems and expects students to be able to figure out the correct way in homework/exams. Avoid LaBeau unless you LOVE math.
Does not seem to have a passion for teaching. She is unorganized, tells long stories, and writes the numbers wrong going through a problem.
She doesnt help, it is pretty much where you teach yourself
do not take this class. she is rude, confusing, hypocritical, and expects everything to be EXACTLY how she wants it. i know this is college, but she is ridiculous. constantly forgets things and is an extremely and unecessarily tough grader. do yourself a favor and pick a different teacher.
I do not recommend her class- Statistics is not a very hard subject but yet I find myself every night teaching myself and becoming frustrated. She is anal very anal.. She gets so mad at herself when she messes up ( which is very often ) I am at the tutoring center more then I can afford to be. TAKE A DIFFERENT TEACHER!
Do not take this teacher! She is absolutely horrible tells unnecessary stories, gives no help and messes up model problems and you have to figure out the correct way to do the homework. Homework is worth basically no credit it at all and must be perfect. Don't waste time on the extra credit she wont give you the points anyway. Avoid at all costs!
terrible teaching,DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS,i feel sorry i did,i am a straight A student and i will get a C,despite the long weekends, perfect attendance and endless nights of study.Very poor teaching skills,i studied on my own,the class is confusing and ridiculous, she wastes valuable time of talk or mistakes,no clear point of what she wants to present
She does problems incorrectly on the board. Very unhelpful. Won't finish problems because she doesn't know how. Boring class. Homework will take 3+ hours a night. Will deduct points on hw/exams for not doing it exactly the way she would. Save your money and do not register with this teacher!!!
Deducts points on homework for NOT highlighting the section number. Told us half way in the semester 1/3 pass, 1/3 fail, and 1/3 drop. Atleast 2/3 dropped. DON'T recommend. Horrible job at explaining problems and rushes through problems so she can get through everything she needs to in a day.
I will say despite all the terrible reviews she has received that she actually is a good professor. However, she is the professor from hell. She literally gives ungodly amounts of homework, also she is the strictest grader I have met.She deducts points off homework and tests for the littlest reasons even if you get the answer to the problem correct
terrible teacher she is all straight from the textbook, you cant pay attention cuz shes so boring, and she makes so many mistakes then grades the test so hard
Do not take her class. You can have the right answer on a test, and she will still mark it wrong if you did not do the problem the way she would. Almost impossible to pass and one the hardest teachers when it comes to grading. All in all she is boring, makes so many mistakes, and needs to retire.
she is awful I studied did the h/w and got a D on the first test so I switched professors. She's annoying ans mean and doesn't care. DO NOT TAKE HER
If you are signed up for this course DROP immediately. The notes on the bored are jumbled and hard to follow. While going over example problems she often gets the answer wrong herself. I ended up dropping this course because the hw load is heavy and you end up having to teach yourself.
Do you like spending hours doing bookwork? Do you like sitting through pure boredom during class? Do you like getting points taken off for the littlest things? Then Labeau is the choice for you! DO NOT TAKE!
The amount of homework she gave had an ill effect on my health. You need to be doing homework 3+ hours, five to six days a week if you are an average learner or risk falling behind. She will help you if you ask, but be ready to talk about off topic things for 20+ minutes if you want any. Funny sweet old lady, but the worst teacher I've ever had.
This instructor is awful, DO NOT TAKE HER. I am a straight A student, and I approach math in my own way, whereas she will deduct points if you do not follow her pattern of solving problems. Also, she has no idea what she's instructing, for example she'd go off on a tangent and then realize five minutes later she was wrong. AWFUL, DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Labeau is definitely an old school teacher. Students in our generation aren't use to her teaching style, so that's whys it hard for many to students to grasp it. She is really hard, and doesn't explain the material as well as you want her too. She doesn't really care about students grades. Which is a problem if your an A student getting a C.
the worst teacher i ever taken at Harper. She is is horrible at explaining anything and just rambles on in class assuming everyone knows what she is talking about. She also makes 500 mistakes each class period on the board which confuses u even more. I am an honor roll student 3.8 GPA and she made my life hell. she doesn't care bout her students.
Terrible instructor. Unclear lectures and tests had nothing to do with lesson. Harsh grader and also never answered questions to student's problems clearly
She is a very tough teacher that never thinks she did something wrong. She makes so many mistakes on the board and makes it really confusing to learn. If you have another method to getting a problem right you will automatically get it wrong because it has to be her way. There is also a lot of homework and she is really critical with grading.
Really strict
Horrible!!!!! Run while u can this some. Is what we call her in class "la furor" couldn't answer any of my questions in class and makes no sense when teaching DO NOT TAKE HER I SWEAR YOULL REGRET IT
She's definitely an old fashioned teacher which makes it hard for students to learn her style. The amount of homework is insane, I could learn a chapter with half or less of the problems assigned. She demands perfection in tests and the homework. However, she does try her best to explain and encourages students to ask questions.
Very picky. Wouldn't recommend her she doesn't believe in reviewing for a test. Overall old school tough professor
Is she tough grader? yes. Is she picky, as in her way or its wrong? yes. But she also offers a bunch of extra credit. But to get the extra credit you have to have completed the homework fully. She is always willing to help, but her methods are confusing. Don't Reccommend! Super sweet lady, but her teachings isn't in favor of my success.
I took her class and I had to spend 6-10 hours just to catch up with what she said in class. I don't know how long she has been teaching statistics, but if it has been long, then she is doing an awful job! she can't clear the doubts! I think she finds the subject confusing too ! Way too much work load ! This class was a surprise for me! I
She is a very tough grader, Very, very strict. Worse decision I have ever made. Her homework assignments are insane they are 20-30 pages long of written work. She will only give you extra credit if you have completed the homework to her standards. Don't take her.
She is the reason I am terrified of taking statistics, I didn't pass and was forced to drop. Twice. She told me the second time around that I wasn't ready. Thanks for the reinforcement. Long story short, I took another teacher at DePaul and passed. There is a happy ending. Dont give up guys and don't take her
She's hard to understand & isn't the easiest person to approach to. You basically have to know the material before you ask for her help. Wish I had known so I could have taken another instructor ?
This class is a difficult class already but the long stories that are told in class have no relation to the material that is being learned. The homework is unmanageable at times and tests are nothing like the math departments standards. Would be cautious when taking this professor
Try and take a different teacher at all costs. I went to every single class, spent 3 days a week in the tutoring lab and did all the homework and still did not pass the class. Labeau is the strictest grader I have even encountered. My class went from 30 students to 7 by the 3rd test. With half of the remaining kids failing the course. Good luck!
I love Math. This was the most archaic class I have ever taken at Harper. I cannot believe she is still teaching. She did not use any technology (blackboard, Pearson, or even the projector!). She is still writing on the whiteboard!!! Unapproachable, unclear, unrelated lectures (goes off topic), homework is not graded until after the test! RUN!!!
For the person who called us loser, how much money did you paid her to pass you?
