Mrs. Michell is very hard. She's not clear on what she wants. She shows favortism to certain students. She will get mad if you questions. if she dosen't like you, your graded and G.P.A will suffer.

She is very difficult to work with. Shows favoratism and assigns grades unfairly. Gets miffed when asked certain questions. No patience with slow learners. Doesn't provide enough support.
I took Kathy for a lab and the sheets she handed out to her regular classes were helpful for the chem I was in. She was helpful to my class, of course it was a lab.

this lady is horrible! i'd rather gouge my eyes out than take this teacher! she needs to be fired!!!
Ms. Mitchell is extremely fair and does an excellent job providing assignments and homework. Whatever grade you get in her class is definitely the grade you earned.
I wouldn't take her class if you are a minority student.
There's a reason the last 4 letters in her name spell hell. It isnt her teaching ability that stinks, its her tests and quizzes. Hardest problems worth 15 to 20 points each, so if you miss more than one problem on a test or quiz your failing.
She explains things well. If you pay attention in class and understand what's going on you'll be fine.
i had her for intro chem and chem1 if you respect her and do the homework she assigns you will have an awsome base for chem she does however play favorites, but if you're on her good side she'll be an asset to your education
Very helpful and nice! I got an A in the introduction class and a B in Chem1. :-)
The most unhelpful inconsiderate **** I've ever met, everytime I went to her for help she just blew me off like "who the hell are you to ask me a question"
The BEST Chem teacher at the Clearwater campus PERIOD. Explains everything perfectly and is always willing to help. The posts under mine saying she is a bad teacher are 100% BS. She fills your brain with Chem knowledge. Awesome Teacher! If you need to take CHEM 2/Organic take Stodden @ Tarpon Campus
She is the worst Chem teacher at SPC, I dropped intro chem with her because I was failing because she would not explain anything, Recommend Stodden at Tarpon campus took him through Organic II got all A's.

Save yourself some time and a lot of trouble. DO NOT take this teacher!!!!

Ugly inside and outside. Does not help at all. I had to quit because I couldn't take her anymore.Looks like she is very unhappy.
The only thing I can say is that the people below this post obviously shouldn't take Chemistry if they couldn't pass her class. I've never had such a clear teacher & one so enthusiastic about their subject. Her teaching style is awesome & you can be assured that you will learn & remember all material. Also gives great wrkshts to help learn material
boring class but ok teaher
Hard grader but only because she wants you to really understand the material. Explains things very well.
horrible teacher!!!!!!!terrible teaching style, and when asked questions, she avoids giving an answer.

I actually loved Ms. Mitchell! I felt like she was extremely helpful and because science is my weakest subject, I usually needed extra explanation. I took this class once before with someone else and dropped it three weeks in, then took Ms. Mitchell with an A average. If you pay attention and do the homework problems, you'll do fine!
I don't think she is a very happy person, not that this is a requirement or anything but it helps to enjoy what you are doing. She is very disrespectful to students, and enjoys humiliating you in front of the class. you will not get any outside help from her so don't bother asking. I think she should find another line of work.
great teacher! test are easy.
I drive 20 minutes to Tarpon Springs campus to avoid taking this instuctor. She is a drill sargent and a real bad instructor. I take all my chemistry classes at Tarpon they have excellent professors!
I would not recommend this instructor unless you are excellent at chem and you can suck up. Plays favorites, won't answer questions and you CAN NOT get any help from her. Loves to humiliate students she doesn't like, very unhappy person. She would rather be doing Green Chemistry research, but lacks the education to do so. Needs to quit!
Ms. Mitchell is a great teacher! She can get rather paranoid sometimes, but she teaches well and I made an A in her class regardless of the fact that I'm horrible in science. She's a fair grader and explains things very clearly; will also help you outside of class.
I was in her intro to Chem class and she was very helpful. She does however only help those who have tried a problem and can't figure it out, but thats to be expected. And this is to everyone who made comments about her not helping slow learners... HELLO, it's Chemistry. Get a tutor if you need that much attention.

Also had her for lab. She was OK. She had weird grading policies sometimes. She wasn't always clear on her methods of doing things. She did have a great body, though, especially for her age.
i took her for intro to chem and she was ok. passed the class with a B. then i took chem 1 and she was horrible. I went to her after class one day and asked her for help (this is no lie) she told me that i had horrible note taking skills, no wonder i had no idea what was going on. see i feel that i pay her to teach not to lecture me on unimortant i
Take Musgrave at Gibbs, its well worth the drive.
I took her for Intro Chem and lab. She's hard, but do the homework and don't goof off. She's nice and classy, but very old school. Her tests are difficult because some problems can be worth 10 or 12 points alone.
If you study, you will get an A
All of you "1025 people" who think Mitchell is a good teacher... havent see the tip of the iceberg. Hang around take Chem 1 or 2 and see if you still feel the same.
I took her for Intro and Chem 1, and I thought she was the same in both. She goes over enough examples from the book and worksheets to help you understand. Her tests aren't very hard if you study, and she tells you what's going to be on it. And don't ask stupid questions or she'll snap at you. Overall, I liked her and would take her agian.
I took her for intro, chm 1 & 2 and absolutely loved her. I don't necessarily think she plays favorites, but is only willing to help those who try to help themselves. She wont do the work for you! She's so enthusiastic about chemistry and she explains subject matter in a way that's easy to understand.
Awesome professor. I did not even have to open my book and got an A
This teacher sucks. She is awful. Her tests will have like 10 questions and some questions on the test are worth like 20 points. She leaves class during the lab and when you ask a question she makes you look dumb and says you should know this. Don't take this teacher!
worst teacher at spc! plays favorites. does not like to be bothered with questions outside of class. very hateful
She is quite possibly one of the laziest professor I've ever met. She's gone from writing handwritten tests to multiple choice tests over the past three semesters. Her tests are difficult and require a lot of time to succeed on, I'd highly recommend against taking her. She's moody and is unfriendly on all grounds.
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! THE MATERIAL IS NOT HARD BUT THE WAY SHE WORDS THINGS ON TESTS, HER GRADING IS POSSIBLY THE MOST UNFAIR IVE EVER ENCOUNTERED, THE ATMOSPHERE IN THE CLASSROOM IS HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE HER GO TO THE GIBBS CAMPUS...IT WILL BE WORTH IT! AND SHE SHOULD BE FIRED FOR HER BIAS WAYS!
She is a realy great teacher, explains things well, i never used the book, tests are kinda hard but aren't bad if you study and do all the works she gives, i dropped chem my first time around but thanks to kathy mitchel i got through it with an A+, i would recomend her to anyone who wants to learn and actualy do the work, not just get an easy a
Ms. Mitchell is a good teacher. She has a no nonsense attitude and has high expectations for her students. The test are not hard if you do homework and compleate the worksheets that are handed out in class. This is a great class for serious students.
One word: AWFUL!!!! God forbid you need help on something because you don't understand it.... She give you NO HELP WHAT-SO-EVER! She just tells you "You should know this by now" WHAT KIND OF TEACHING IS THAT?!?!?! Don't take her!!!!!!
She is a nice teacher.I have never had a problem asking her questions. The course itself is hard. Make sure you make time to study the material.Good luck in chemistry. :)
This was one of the Best teachers I have ever had at SPC. She knows her stuff there for knows how to teach it. Highly recommend. This is not an easy A. Its chem and you do have to study, but as long as you study what she gives you, you'll be fine.
This is not an easy A class. If you do your homework, worksheets,& study, you'll be fine. She goes over worksheet problems in class & gives you the answer key to check them. She always answers questions in class or in her office. If you are a serious student who has to take a lot of chm, this is a good teacher to take, She knows her stuff.
This prof. IS HORRIBLE. Not an easy A you have to study and teach yourself. She is a mean women who seems to hate her job. Alot of take home quizes that she puts up in angel although sometimes she does pop quizes. There are about 5 or 6 exams. NO EXTRA CREDIT. she not only lost my test but refused to help me when I had questions. very disorganized
Terrible, terrible teacher. She is always mean and never answers questions. I'm sure she's a smart person, but she does not belong in the classroom. I had to teach myself everything because she did such a terrible job of it. She is absolutely the worst teacher and the meanest person I've had the misfortune of meeting.
Find a different teacher for this class!!! She is so disorganized, I find myself confused even as to what chapter she is covering. She seems to have no faith in students, I venture to say she dislikes them very much and considers them all cheaters and unable to comprehend.
She made the class unnecessarily hard, such as memorizing conversion units that you'll forget after handing her the exam. If you wanna live for this class, then take it, but you're better off trying a different teacher. Many were getting low grades despite having studied hard. Avoid this teacher. On the positive side, she was a very nice person.
She is the most ridiculous instructor. This is my first semester at this school, and I have never seen anybody with such a low tolerance for their students. She gets upset with the students when they do not understand something. She also does not allow us to research items we do not understand. She will actually take off points if research is done.
Not helpful, not nice, and bad attitude. I'd take someone else for chemistry 1045 or 1025. She's also frequently late for class as well.
I have worked with her for more than 3 years. I took her for CHM 1025 all the way thru 1046. She's such a nice person, she does want her students to succeed. But you do have to be a serious student. I love her teaching style, the handouts that she provides are really helpful. Honestly, she's the BEST Chemistry professor I ever had!!!!!!
I find her very easy and has a good sense of humor. I have to admit, she looked really mean and hard at first, but she was in fact a good teacher, you actually learn the material! Crystal clear on her lectures. She doesn't always follow the way the book does it, but most of her ways are easier anyways. No homework!
Avoid this teacher. Her exams are killers and unfairly hard. She teaches with slides and writing on the board, but not enough considering how demanding her tests were. The fact that she gave a test the first day of class to recommend students who scored less than 70 to retake CHM 1025 (intro to chem) tells you this woman expects too much of you.
I am taking her now and she is very difficult. I took chemistry in a much harder school, but I learned and it was easier because I knew the information. She is not approachable. I studied and still got an F. I do NOT RECOMMNEND her AT ALL.
Very Hard Teacher. Good luck
She is very helpful and crystal clear on her material. She actually wants her students to pass! I actually learn a lot in her class. Do homework/worksheets that she gives...practice makes perfect! (Plus, some questions are on her tests). However, very strict on attendance policy, so never be late or miss a class!
Not a very good teacher. I did learn a lot, but that was no thanks to her and all the thanks to my own studying and reading. She is extremely rude! I attempted to approach her about a question on a test b/c the ans I was getting wasn't on there. She completely blew me off and I ended up being right...with no appologies from her!
mitchell is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. this class would be easier if i took it online and taught myself. she plays favorits. she doesn't seem to know anything past the text book when it comes to science and will never answer any difficult quetsions about her subject she will simply blow you off
not a fun professor. her lectures are very hard to understand because she teaches higher levels of chem, so she kind of runs through intro and chem 1. If you are not 100% adept in chemistry, please DO NOT TAKE HER. You will regret it.
have fun teaching your self.
She was not the nicest teacher, but lectures were very helpful. She showed you exactly how to work the problems needed for the exams. People who say that they were better off teaching themselves probably never went to class.
When I first signed up for her class I was a bit hesitant because of what I read on here but, she's a great teacher. She explained everyting thoroughly, no surprises on the quizzes or tests. HW isn't mandatory but it helps if you do it! I REALLY LIKED HER CLASS
I have never in my entire life failed a class! She just sits at her desk and points out material in the book. She never had time to help me or other students after class or even before. I have to retake it. She did not explain the material well at all. I gave up because i couldnt understand her. All you have is 5 tests for grades and nothing else.
I really enjoyed her class! You actually have to work to earn a good grade in her class, which I think is what makes a good instructor. Do the homework/worksheets(not mandatory but really helps you learn the material),read the text,& STUDY & you will do very well. All she talks about will be more clear if you read the text before she lectures on it.
She is very very unclear and bad. I think the good reviews are all by herself.
I cant believe anybody would leave her a good review. her class is set up to be a pain. the tests are ridiculous you have to memorize every little formula there is. This class is no easy do not take it.
Anyone giving Prof. Mitchell a poor rating just did not apply themselves to the class. I did the homeworks and worksheets she assigned, read the book sometimes and studied the reviews for the exams. I made an A in the course. I received the help I needed anytime I needed it. I had her for both intro and chem 1 + labs and made A's in all of them.
Whoever, said she is a great teacher DON'T LISTEN. This Instructor is an insane person, She absolutely sucks and her teaching is so unorganized. Doesn't help plays favoritism and i hated it her.. She does not her crap, but everyone else doesn't. She expects student to study 20 hours a week to get at least a "B" she told us his the first day of clas
She is not a nice teacher, but she did show everything in her lectures that were on the exam. People who did not attend would of course do worse. It is not only the teacher's job to teach, but also the student's job to study and attend class. We had a kid who slept and snored in class, but he still did well in the course.
Don't listen to all the bad ratings here! You can't just coast through the class - you need to study, but it's nothing really hard. Just make sure you do the homework and email her if you have any questions. She's clear, very friendly, and is willing to stay after class and talk with you until you understand something. I totally recommend her!!
Oh my God. Favortism much? Yeah she said she would take off points because i had open toed shoes on her exam...thanks mitchell, ill be lucky if i get a c....
Do yourself a favor and take Musgrave. Had Mitchell for Chem 1 and 2, then decided to take Organic at Gibbs. Wow! What a difference. Musgrave was such a delightful, positive, and understanding professor. Trust me, its worth the drive!
Really really good teacher, best chem teacher at clearwater campus, I'm currently taken nicely for 1045, and he's not half as clear or helpful during class, plus we're not going to cover 3 chapters!!! I feel bad for those who have to go to chem 2!
She is very clear when explaining. Sometimes she gets very into the subject and starts using a lot of chemistry terminology and that could cause some difficulty when trying to understand her. Other than that, she can be funny at times. She is very strict and honest. Quizzes drops 2, tests, and final 20%. Not an easy A.
I thought she was a good teacher. The thing I liked about her was studying her worksheets almost guaranteed an A on her tests. She was just a little harsh on those who asked questions.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. She is rude and not helpful at all. Ask for help and she'll tell you she thinks you have a learning disability.Save yourself the headaches and take this class elsewhere....and if she is so sensitive to fragrances, she should stay out of the classroom and teach from a sealed plastic bubble
Prof Mitchell is a great teacher. She really loves what she does and loves chemistry. She's always willing to help. If you just follow her rules (which are relatively strict but not outrageous) then you'll get along great. Do the worksheets and the homework and you'll do just fine. I highly recommend her!!
I was hesitant to take her class because of some of the reviews that I saw on here but I really enjoyed her class. Chemistry was challenging for me in high school, but I had very little trouble with Ms. Mitchell as my instructor. If you attend class, take notes actively, and do the practice worksheets that she provides, you should do just fine.
Would not recommend her to anyone. She is a bubble head and expects you to known the subject. Why pay tuition? Gives take home tests with very little time to complete. Makes numerous mistakes during lecture and not clear in explanations, keeps you confused. If you take 2 or 3 classes she is OK but if you have a regular load forget it.
Great teacher! If you go to class and pay attention she is one of the most helpful teachers I have ever been around. This class is not supposed to be easy; I would rather learn something than take a mindless class. I would recommend to everyone that takes college seriously. I had her for intro chem and chem I. Wish she taught chem II.
Prof. Mitchell is knowledgable on the subject and will answer your questions. If you study the chapters assigned then you will know the material for the exams/quizzes. You get what you put in really. Recommended.
She gives you worksheets,if you do them, you will definitely do well on the exam. However, her exams are short and tricky. I would recommend going over the exam before turning it in since one question is worth a lot of points, and her exams are around 12-30 questions.
This class is gives you a more thorough understanding of what is taught in CHM 1025. If you practice with all the worksheets she provides, you'll succeed. Not the easiest teacher, but not the hardest. I wish she taught higher than CHM 1025 and 2045 because I would definitely take her again.
Prof Mitchell is an awesome chem teacher. I honestly would not have passed if it wasn't for her. She gives worksheets for everything. She is hard and has the attitude that you should have learned it in 1025, but she helps you understand. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have received an A in Chem. Thank you Prof Mitchell. Taker her. Seriously.
She is not the easiest, but not the hardest. Many students thought she was pretty unclear in explaining concepts. Don't expect a jovial personality and it will be fine. Do the worksheets she hands out and you will do fine.
Ms. Mitchell is an awesome teacher. CHM is not an easy class to learn but she will ALWAYS make time to help you. Answers your emails the same day usually. She's stern, but if you just follow what she says you'll be fine. She gives you worksheets to practice. DO THEM. If you do, you'll do well on the test. I would have gotten an A if I studied ever
Take her class!!! She's really good. If you can do the worksheets, you'll get an A on the exams. Extra credit questions on every exam. She's the best chem teacher I had.
She's really good. If you can do the worksheets, you'll get an A on the exams. Extra credit questions on every exam. She explains very well.
Great teacher. You HAVE to study if you want an A. Do the post chapter homework (not graded), do the worksheets and you are gonna be good. The tests are really hard but you are not gonna get surprises on them. Everything is covered in class. Her lectures are really awesome and you really learn. STRONGLY RECOMMEND HER.
Look, all these people that are complaining obviously expected an easy class. Ms. Mitchell is a GREAT teacher. If you actually STUDY and pay attention, her class is a snap. She is very nice and probably my favorite teacher because she is fair.
She's a great teacher and very nice, she has taught me alot i hope i get her next semester!
Had her for the lab portion of 1025. Lab was not extremly difficult, but you have to pay attention. She is a pretty tough grader, and doesn't put up with much nonsense. She's a little snippy with questions she feels you should know...which can sometimes get annoying if you are just confused about something.
I took prof.Mitchell for intro CHM &CHM 1.Honestly, she is the best chemistry prof I've ever had.She is straight forward. If you do the worksheets that she provides, pay attention in the class, and study the materials, you'll for sure have an A.She gives extra questions in every exam.I definitely recommend her for chemistry lovers &serious students.
Honestly the best teacher I have ever ha. Not an easy class though, Ive easily put in over 100 hrs of studying, If you need this to advance in chemistry, she forces you to know the foundation and I thank her tremendously. Very helpful and its funny when she makes chemistry jokes haha
I had Prof. Mitchell for lecture and lab, which is an extremely wise idea. She's the best chem professor on SPC's Clearwater campus, and she is persistent when it comes to you doing well in her class. She's got a lot of rules, which may turn you off at first, but once you get to know her, she's an effective instructor and a personable lady!
Her class lecture is a bit quick passed so read the book and do the worksheets. But you should pass with a good grade if you try and read the book and actually study! But she never gives test reviews or study guides so DO homework and take notes in class!
She was absent from class for the last 3(or 16) weeks so passing was near impossible. She offered no explanation and no review for the final that we still had to take on time. For the time that she was in attendance she was an acceptable teacher. She explained the subject to an extent and was a nice, if boring, human being.
I chose Professor Mitchell for both Chem I and Intro to Chem. She is an exceptional professor and I highly recommend her! If you do her worksheets (which are excellent) and read the book you will do well. She teaches in a way that you learn material rather than have to try to memorize everything. Highly suggest you take her for lab too!
She teaches like she expects you to know everything and gets angry when you don't understand something. Stay on top of the OWL assignments she never announced when stuff is due on there and the class is dull
She is really nice and helpful once you get to know her. Don't read the books as much, focus on her worksheets and lectures. The worksheets ARE the test questions!! And ASK if you need help, be super nice, and she will like you.
I have some regret because I took this teacher. She makes the material confusing as she tries to show off how much she knowns which. tests gets harder and harder with no review. Not to be totally negative but she dislike her students, I can not figure why she chose to be a teacher. However I did learn a lot, be prepared to learn on your own.
She is horrible professor, just don't waist your time with her. You will regret it!
4 tests, 1 final. Strictest grader I've ever had. No mandatory homework. Expects you to follow her lectures and if you don't get it, wait til after class to ask or don't bother. Crazy strict in chem lab and lecture for all her classes. Tests are your entire grade and very hard to pass, she also doesn't drop any and is not lenient in any way.
Super tough grader and doesn't put up with nonsense whatsoever. However, she really is an awesome teacher and is very helpful towards those who care to learn. She is good with responding to emails. Make sure not to be late for her class or you will not be allowed in. Super strict but very fair, how a teacher should be.
I would not recommend her. She makes the material much more confusing than it really is. 4 total tests, then the final, and that is it. No extra credit and she does not drop the lowest test. If you ask her a question she will tell you to ask a classmate first… if you still cannot figure it out she will make a lesson of you and make you feel stupid.
Honestly, you don't need the book. And her online worksheets are the TEST questions. If people complain, its because they don't study. I only looked over the worksheets before the exams and have an A! OWL is online, and the final is 20% grade but its the same questions from other tests. Lecture she is great!! Lab is harder. :(
OWL includes an online copy of the book. She'll say you have to bring the book to class but I just used OWL and got an A. Show up to class because her tests only cover what she goes over in lecture, and the book contains a lot of information not on the tests. If you pay attention in class and do the worksheets and OWL assignments you'll get an A.
I took Prof. Mitchell for both Intro and Gen CHM. She's a good, helpful professor, posts worksheets and critical info that will need to be practiced/memorized for the exam. She could be a bit more involved in lab, but otherwise I got a lot out of my time in her classes.
*Dont need the book.*Test are all that she grades, and OWL. *Attend class & do the work sheets and you will GET A! *She is SUPER NICE when you get to know her! *Just focus on what she teaches, anything else is NOT on TEST. *Tests are 20-30 questions, multiple choice!
Come to class, do the worksheets posted online, study for the tests and you'll get a good grade. No homework is given and the 4 exams and the final are the only grades averaged.
I would NOT recommended taking her class!! She is very hard! She only has 4 exams and one final for your grade. No homework or quizzes that she does that can help your grade if you fail a test. I completely REGRET taking her as a professor. It is not fair that she only allows 4 exams and 1 final as your grade. I should have withdrawn 1st day.
I regret taking her. Although she claims that the OWL helps with the grade, the exams are what determines the grade. Exams are not terribly hard however with 20 to 25 questions, if you get 5 wrong you are at a C. During lab she refuses to help, which defeats the purpose of having her there. She is a nice person, but I would never take her again.
I would not recommend this professor. If you ask a question she will tell you that you need to go see a tutor and that if you don't understand the material you will not succeed in the future. There are only four tests and a final. If you mess up one test it is unlikely you will get a good grade. Makes you feel like you are beneath her.
Do NOT skip her classes if you want a chance to pass the class. Use the learning center as she is VERY confusing and DOES NOT like to answer quick questions or ends up giving answers that don't answer your questions. She is NOT easy on grades and always checks attendance the entire semester. Four tests are your ONLY grades. No extra credit.
Four tests + Final all equally weighted. She is quite frankly the best on campus, she is in no rush and takes her time through everything so you can fully understand it. She does not tolerate nonsense. Slightly strict policies as far as cell phones go. I was up at night to be the first in her Gem Chem class, I would recommend her to anyone.
She's not the easiest teacher to take for Chemistry, but as long as you study for the tests with her review guides, you'll do fine in the class. She teaches the material well.
Professor Mitchell doesn't tolerate tardiness or nonsense in her class and can come off as mean. She's there to teach, not be your friend. Posts worksheets online that are not graded, but really help with understanding the material. Tests and quizzes are somewhat difficult. Reading the chapters is recommended to do well in the class.
A great teacher. I would totally recommend her. A little dry, but still likable. She lays everything out explicitly and uses metaphors for understanding. I wish I could be taking her for Chem 1. Bring highlighters and get ready to memorize.
She is extremely clear and organized with her examples. She's hard on you and grading, which i really liked for a intro to chem class because now i have a good understanding on the foundation of chemistry. She knows what she's talking about. anyone who didn't do well with her most likely had bad study habits. I wish was able to take her for chem 1.
Professor Mitchell is exactly what you should expect from a great chemistry professor. She is clear, knows the material that she is teaching extensively, and never tests on anything that she has not covered in class. Yes she gives a lot to memorize but she expects that you study like any good college student should. I wish I had her for chem 1.
Great chemistry teacher if you want to go into chemistry. But if you are taking the class just for your Gen Eds, don't take it. She makes it harder than a intro class should be. Also be warned the only grades there are, are the 5 tests and make sure to bring your text book to class everyday.
Mitchell is an absolutely wonderful teacher if you're willing to learn. She's very clear in what she expects and in all of her explanations of the topics. However, she is a bit on the quiet side, so taking her early in the morning without coffee is difficult at times. Bring your book each day and you'll be fine. Would definitely take her again.
Her ratings should be much higher, i feel like students who expect a smiley interactive professor confuse this with her being "mean". I couldn't be more grateful that i had her, she teaches so well and clear, she taught me how to organize & simplify complicated concepts, because of her methods I've been able to do so well in my upper chem classes.
I had her for lab as well, and I am definitely going to miss her. She's wonderful. If you're expecting some bubbly woman who will hand you an easy A, don't bother. She truly wants to help people learn and is very thorough in her teaching. Be prepared to write and pay attention in class and you'll be fine. Online OWL homework is mandatory.
She explained everything clearly during her lectures. I felt like I had a good grasp on each new topic assigned and if I did not, I could go to her for help. She was available when I needed her and responded promptly to emails. She even let me make-up and exam or a test because I had slept through my alarm, only once, mind you.
Had Dr. Mitchell for lab, she is a good choice. Very clear on instructions and expectations. Very good about answering questions. She is not a fan of lateness or other signs that you aren't taking the class seriously. I'd take her again.
Only four exams will be your grade. Professor Mitchell teaches things the hard way. Doesn't give you any shortcuts or tips. Don't take her unless you've already taken chemistry in high school.
She explains every concept very thoroughly. Do the chapter worksheets and study from them and you will do well in the class. OWL homework assignments for each chapter. She is very straight forward and lets you know her expectations at the beginning of the semester.
Did not use the book, did use the OWL access. She teaches by powerpoint and goes through numerous examples very thoroughly. Do the worksheets for each chapter and you will be well prepared for the test. Tests and OWL assignments make up the majority of your grade.
First of all, Prof Mitchell is not easy, but i guarantee you that if you go to her class and take notes, you will definitely pass her tests. However, if you are learning chemistry for the first time, i do not recommend taking her. I took Intro and Gen 1 with her and her style doesn't change. She is not an easy going person. Final is mandatory.
Definitely not a teacher to take if you don' learn through watching. Her teaching style is very boring and flat. Questions are usually answered with a riddle of some sort. I would not take if this is the first time doing chemistry.
Teacher acts like she doesn't care about your success. She has the most monotone voice that will put you to sleep. She only allows tests in class. So... if your a bad test taker, your pretty much hanging on a thin line to pass with a C at best. Tests are very hard and contain a ton of material. You better read and practice or u dont pass.
Get ready to be thrown into the fire. Does a short lecture on procedure than throws you in. So read your labs before you go in and know what its talking about cause good luck. She tends to also leave the classroom for periods of a time so if you have a question she will either not be there to answer or give u snarky beat around the bush hint.
Whenever it came to asking a questions, she was very unclear on her answers or her expectations. She was also rude. She is an extremely tough grader, will take off points for almost anything. She also would take forever to grade our tests/labs. I definently will not be taking her ever again, choosing a chemistry professor in a different campus.
I took her for chem 1. The book is important to help understand the material but she has a lot of worksheets for practicing problems. The online assignments took some time, but overall I think they helped. Those who said that she doesn't care or is not available must not have tried. She was very available for help and guidance. Not an easy class.
Chemistry is one of the hardest classes that I have taken. I had to spend a lot of time doing practice problems and that helped me to succeed in the class with an A. If you aren't willing to put in the time you won't do well. Mrs. Mitchell explains everything really well and is very helpful if you ask. The rest is up to you.
HORRIBLE TEACHER, DOESNT UNDERSTAND THAT NOT EVERYONE IS GOOD AT CHEMISTRY AND ADAPT DIFFERENT. I RECOMMEND NOT TAKING HER. I TOLD HER IN THE BEGINNING THAT I DIDNT UNDERSTAND AND SHE TOLD ME WELL IDK HOW TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND!!!
Her caliber as a teacher is unrivaled, She works through everything with the class and is willing to spend extra time or revisit concepts that you are having trouble with. Her wonderful method of teaching was instrumental to my success, I loved the no nonsense atmosphere of her classroom, come ready to learn! Great personality, very approachable.
I'm so happy I decided to give Chemistry another try and took it with Prof. Mitchell!! She is so thorough and easy to understand. She's direct, to the point and teaches you exactly what you are tested on. She also provides extra credit options on her tests! I advise you sit in the front of her class because she is a bit soft spoken.
She is a great professor! Provides lots of non-graded worksheets for a thorough understanding of the material. Her lectures are given very clearly and teaches exactly what you're tested on.
Prof Mitchell's class is pretty vigorous, but if you pay attention and work hard you'll definitely do well. Just realize that she is a very particular grader--I got points off because of how I wrote the letter A.
She would go over one chapter in one day and if you skip it she won't go over it. It's better to have someone to share notes with. Don't really expect her to explain twice; once asked her to help with a problem and she said that we should see what the question is asking and do it and that we should know how to do it already. Online homework too.
She is a great professor. Tests are difficult but exactly what she teaches in class. Take note, do the worksheet and you will pass. Highly recommend her if you really want to study Chemistry.
she goes straight into examples without explaining concepts
I walked into her class with a negative attitude thinking i was going to fail . This is a really challenging class , i realized its all about how you approach the class . She guided me in the right direction for help as well overall good professor
Hoping to fail her class at this point JUST so I can take this course with a better professor. Lectures are very vague and unorganized and is based off the things SHE taught you in HER Intro to Chem class. So if you didn't have her for Intro- have fun. She doesn't give feedback on your tests so good luck correcting your mistakes. HORRIBLE!!
She can be vague but she is always available if you need more clarification. She truly cares about her students and the grades they get so don't hesitate asking her if you're struggling. That said, she is tough when it comes to grades and has a no nonsense attitude regarding kids that think they can get an easy A. She is a wealth of knowledge too.
She was very nice outside of the classroom and she warmed up in the classroom at the end of the semester. We did have to use the textbook. She was very clear cut on what she wanted from us. If youre regularly late to class, dont take her class. She will lock you out of the room and you wont be able to do the lab. Overall, a good, strict teacher.
Shes a very good professor; however, she will only mark your answer wrong and not show you the correct format to solve it. If you say you are not good at something directly to her she wont help you. You have to have an optimistic view when asking her a question to get a reasonable hint or answer.
Nothing too bad or too good about her as a teacher. 5 multiple choice tests and 4-10 extra credit points on each one. I would not say she is a tough grader. Expect the usual. Very nice person. She will really like you if you study.
I originally signed up for a class w/ a Prof w/ great reviews.. but he moved and it ended up being her class. No life in her voice and she explains nothing, just jumps into examples. OWL is an awful program and she acts like no one has a problem w/ it but you. Had to drop. Take Julie Emerson, it's worth the drive to TS campus. No OWL & very clear.
Grade is based on tests on homework. No extra credit is offered but if you study for the exams and do the worksheets you'll pass.
Do not take her!!! She does not give a crap about your life or how she teaches. Her emails are harsh and Julie emerson is the perfect teacher pick her!! Mrs Mitchell is the worst and i had to go to the dean of Spc because of her harsh emails and not caring self.
If you are looking for an easy A, this class is not for you. If you are looking to actually learn chemistry this is a great class! Professor Mitchell explains everything very well. Easy class if you are there to learn.
I took her online during covid, Im a Junior and this is the first class Ive ever had to drop. She doesnt lecture all of the information on the exams and is not well with answering questions. Even my tutors were confused
This class was originally supposed to be a face to face at the clearwater campus but had to go online because of COVID. She is horrible! Doesn't bother to make videos or do LIVE ONLINE ZOOM CLASSES but will make you watch other professors video like Julie Emerson and Musgrave. She puts no effort in teaching her students even with a PANDEMIC.
Professor Mitchell is not a good online professors, it's like she's not even there. Im taking her online because of COVID but she is very poor online professor I had since the whole pandemic. She marks answers wrong on assignments but doesn't dare to bother in explaining why they are wrong!
I can't speak for in person class because everything is online right now with COVID, but right now the class is entirely tests/homework without any learning material. The class itself would be half as hard if there were just a video lecture. The only materials are textbook/youtube videos from other professors. She's okayish when it comes to emails
If you plan on taking Professor Mitchell online DO NOT. She is a horrible online teacher. Cant speak for her face to face class but she is horrible. Other professors offer live online or even recored video lectures but she does NOTHING! Get ready to watch other Professors videos, who care actually care for you, not like Professor Mitchell.
I had her for online Intro to Chem lab, she seemed unwilling to stay after class to help me. She says she left feedback on my lab, but the feedback was refer to survival guide and videos. I missed my opportunity to drop the class and now my GPA will suffer. Im not sure how she is in person, but her online class is terrible.
Professor Mitchell is a professor that actively wants her students to succeed. I've never been the best at chem, to be honest. In the online course, the grading criteria, provided material, and video lectures really helped me pass. It takes a lot of self-discipline as this is self-paced class, to an extent.
Mitchell seems like her classes are a chore to her. She does not give live lectures, instead links her students to YouTube videos made during the start of the "Covid Semester" at SPC (Spring 2020) as well as links to sites with more information, but no information helpful to the HW/Quizzes/Tests. I learned more about Chem from my Lab.
Really have to pay attention
I took Professor Mitchell in person and had a very good time learning. She was very helpful and wanted you to succeed. This class was hard however and she didnt grade things until the very end, but I dont hold that against her. I would recommend her for face to face lab.
Only DSM and Exams are graded. Gives worksheets as reviews for tests, but are not graded. If you want to learn, do not take her. If you're good in Chemistry and can rely on yourself to learn EVERYTHING on your own then go ahead. Idk how she is in person, but online does not seem like her expertise.
I took her for intro to chem and she was not helpful at all she expects you to know everything. She takes forever to put grades in also. I would not take her again.
Professor Mitchell did a great job. Clear, fair grading that was mostly exam based. The material on the exams 100% came from 3-5 hours of youtube videos and online "homework." All grades were automatically instantly calculated (don't know what that other reviewer was talking about). No attendence grade. Minimal penalty for late work.
Unclear, unrealistic expectations. You buy an etext to complete the homework, but exam material comes from tons of youtube videos (all created by others). On top of etext and videos she also assigns 100s of slides and pages from a second textbook. The slides are barely helpful because there is no lecture to go with them. Very disorganized.
Non existent while taking online. DO NOT take unless you are good at teaching yourself the material using youtube. Exam procedure was ridiculous. I cant speak for her in person teaching, but online is a joke. There is no exam review and using the HW to study is useless as the homework is not the same as the test.
Her tests are really not all that difficult, if you study the basic material that she provides to you , you should be able to pass. The homework you could do over and over until the due date to ensure you get as high of a grade as you want. She drops your lowest test grade and lowest homework. I would take her again in a heart beat.
home and worksheets taught off of in class are not the same as tests. Dont bother studying bc u will fail anyways. Extra worksheets to do outside of class for no credit is claimed to he helpful on test but they are no where near helpful. Cant reach out of class. MATERIAL TAUGHT IN CLASS AND HW IS NOT ON TEST!
Emails that I received back often came across as snarky as opposed to helpful. I understand that people have other factors that may be contributing to their lives in a negative way, but it does not excuse the lack of helpfulness and care that a teacher should be able to provide. The course was set up in what I believe to be a very inefficient way.
tests are tough, worksheets she gives you to do (for no extra credit) are your best friend. Most of your study time will be taken by this class so hope you dont have hard classes. If you arnt amazing at chemistry/ need more explanation on topics take someone else.
Her class seems like a burden to her and that is reflected in her teaching. She does not respond well to emails and when she does they are rude. There is no variety in assignments and homework is counted for very little. Homework also does not relate to tests. If you take her class be prepared to teach yourself the material.
I obviously didn't do good on this class but just to warn people before taking this class Professor Mitchell has a "if you're not passing you're not trying" mindset so if you don't understand something in class or fail hard material she will condescendingly reprimand you for not trying without helping no matter how hard you are trying.
Professor Mitchell doesn't articulate herself in a way that allows students to really understand what she is trying to teach. When struggling in the class she will either direct you to a tutor or tell you that "you need to retain the information".
She only provides youtube videos that explain the basics of the subject matter while the tests will include a lot of information that wasn't taught in those videos. The MyPearson assignments weren't very helpful either, mostly confusing. You will have to try to teach yourself in your free time to make sure you get a decent grade in this course.
Do not recommend this professor if you have any other options for the love of God do not take her. Shes so snarky and overall mean. If asked questions in class she would give you sass, roll her eyes and not answer. Her grading system is terrible. Most of her test are written and if you get the answer but dont show one step she would make it wrong!
She's rude
The best professor I have ever had. Her class is so easy if you just do the worksheets that are exactly like her exams. Do the homework, show up to class and you will do great.
I took her in the morning and the way she spoke made it difficult to follow. Overall I felt like if you didn't understand something, you were unteachable. The test questions were more difficult than the worksheets. I also overheard her negatively talking about someone's test which wasn't cool.
There was a HURRICANE and she postponed a test due to that. People have flooded homes with no light or no wifi. My wifi was out the whole weekend up to the test day(was an online course) and she had the audacity to be mad at me for saying I couldn't take the test because I had no wifi and that I should have gone to school to take the test.Terrible.
Professor Mitchell's class is challenging, but the provided YouTube videos and Unstuck study resources helped me stay on top of the material. Consistent effort and self-discipline are key to doing well in this online course.
The worst professor I have ever taken. Not only was she rude, she did not answer emails, or provide helpful material. In fact, when I asked for help she said "I am not surprised you have a low grade." My advisor was attached in the email and she literally did not care. I was impacted by the hurricane and due dates were not fixed. Take anyone else.
Difficult semesters due to hurricanes, but took the time to explain material to students and would stay after class to explain further if necessary. Kind and understanding. Only downside was not allowing computers or iPads for notes during lectures. Pen and paper only.
I cant speak for higher classes but dont take this prof for intro to chem. Mitchell teaches like everyone in the class already knows basics on their own and she is very rude. She once left the room for 5+ minutes and saw me on my phone when she returned then told the class that I and others can only use your phone if you're doing well in her class.
Professor Kathy Mitchel is unprofessional. Labs were easy but time-consuming, she would be somewhat/very snarky in person and disappear randomly 3 times during a class period. Midterm and final are 50% (why do we have tests???) like the lab reports are. If late, she will publically shame you, kick you out and give you a zero. Very slow late grader.
DO NOT TAKE!! This class is EXTREMELY test heavy. The grading scale was as such: HW 20%, 4-unit tests 65% and final 15% with no grades dropped or curved. Additionally, she provides no formal lecture videos, just basic videos you would watch in high school chem that don't outline the difficulty of the test, along with no test reviews.
Professor Mitchell takes lab safety very seriously--if you're unprepared, you may be asked to leave. Attendance is mandatory. Pay attention, take notes, and come prepared with printed labs. She'll help if you put in the effort but expects students to take responsibility for their success.
Very test heavy, and no easy way to prepair for her tests. She makes students feel stupid for asking questions about the material.
I have to admit, she's not the brightest teacher in the world. But she knew what she was talking about. I'd skip on asking her questions, she'll respond negatively. Do the worksheets provided twice, read the outlines, and you'll be fine on the tests. She's very strict so arrive on time, have the correct calculator, no cologne.. Not THAT difficult.
I did not have any issues with Professor Mitchell. If you do the work and watch the videos supplied, you will do great. I also like how there were practice exams for each test and final. When I was unsure about something or had questions, I would receive a quick email back from her. She was always professional and respectful.
Absolutely terrible. Thousands of dollars on classes just to get a professor who treats students as if they are heavily inferior to her.
Very detail-oriented, and has high standards on showing work and attendance. Not the right professor for everybody, but I liked the class! She's very clear and upfront about test dates and classroom policies. Arrive on time, don't be absent, show your work, study for the tests, and you'll have no problem with her. Definitely knows her stuff, too!
The class is very difficult. If anyone by any chance misses an assignment, there is no way to do make-up work, even if you face an emergency. I will never take her class again.
absolutely hated her, i got kicked out of her class one time for cracking my knuckles and another time for looking up during a test (by up i mean at the ceiling not at someone's paper) she is lacks empathy and will publicly humiliate you if you do anything wrong no matter how good you do. i dont hate many people but she is one of those few sadly.
Good teacher overall. All the lectures and homework are straightforward and easy to understand. The worksheets are what you use to study for every test. If you just look at the test review and do the worksheets, you will do good on every test, just trust me. She does not like people talking in class though or like falling asleep.
Not a super hard class. A lot of material to remember but she provides a lot of worksheets that make this material easier to understand. She states that if you do the worksheets then you will pass her tests, and she is not lying. Kind of a boring professor but all of the lectures are filled with important information.
Prof. Mitchell's class is extremely old-school and lecture heavy, and I find the lectures to be rather slow and I ended up teaching myself everything. You can't use digital notetaking which personally made the class a lot more difficult for me. Each test had some extra credit on it, including the final exam.
