Great professor! She can really teach. have a quiz a lot. But they are do-able. Give out E.C to pass the class. Test are not so hard. Nice lady. bUt have to do HW to keep up.
Good Math teacher...explain very clearly & willing to help...very nice too...but the tests are kinda hard.
Her teaching is not so good. She gets you confused with very simple problems. Her exams are kind of hard. She the only professor that will bring cookies to the class. Thats something...

Yes, her exams are quite nonstraightforward. But unlike a certain physics professor at MCC, she actually tells you how to work these kinds of problems so that when they do come up you know how to solve them. And I think she's kinda cute.

Very good teacher, knows how to teach the material. helps you out with the Extra Credit. Makes sure you know and undersatnd the material. made me appreciate math more
take this prof if u like writing essays on calc. Yes, essays in a calc class. she seems sweet when class first starts, but she isnt. and her teaching sucks. if you dont understand something, she is not willing to help.
Great professor, very helpful, explains math concepts very well, enjoyed taking her class.
She is a real teacher; she knows how to teach. Exams are not so easy, but as long as you take good note and do all hw, you'll be fine. Many ec opportunities. She's very accessible- don't go tutor center, go visit her.
altho her tests may be challenging, EX opportunities are given for those who care about their grade. she likes to be very detailed about notes on the board but she's awesome! i definitely recommend her!
For the math savvy. She absolutely loves the subject. not easy, yet very nice professor. As much as i like the professor, I wouldn't recommend taking this course if you don't have to. pretty easy till you hit vector spaces, then you need to buy a compass.
Very well prepared for class. To make class fun, she uses examples that students can relate to. Many e.c. opportunities- those are not only gives u pts. but also it helps u to understand the subject. She is such a good professor and cool lady!
A good, down-2-earth professor who likes to give brownie points too much. However they really amount to very little overall points. Considerting the difficulty of her tests, I would say she's fair because she prepares you well with her notes and examples.
SHES A FUN TEACHER,DOES NOT USE THE BOOK TO OFTEN WHICH CAN CAUSE SOME CONFUSION IN TRYING TO LEARN. BUT SHE IS OVER ALL A FAIR TEACHER WHENIT COMES TO GRADES.IF YOU TAKE HER CLASS YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE SOME KNOWLEDGE TO THE SUBJECT.
Very Helpful and made this class fun
Great PRofessor so nice and helpful rare to find at middlesx must take her if you want a good teacher
I wouldn't recommend taking this professor.
If you are really interested in Calculs, don't think much. Just take her. She grades very nicely. One won't feel that he is in calculus 1
Professor Shay is awesome!
best math teacher i ever had, she will help anybody out, makes things very clear, and your grade is always outlined and can be figured out, she gives students a chance to pass even after a bad mark, extremely nice lady, highly recommended, but the 110 minute classes are a killer!
Simply the best math teacher i ever had...very helpful and made everything clear...i went from a C in statistics 1 to an A in stat 2 because she cleared everything up by making it realistic and understandable...highly recommend her classes!!
I am in calculus 2 right now. Even if i m getting good grades I miss this professor's class. She is simply THE BEST in the math department. I believe MATH department needs more professors like her. Nice to students and nice at grading. i would rate her no.1 in MCC.
I didn't like her. The way she taught was okay, but she doesn't follow the way the book teaches you which makes it really hard.
She's a really fair teacher and she trys to show shortcut methods which is really really helpful. Totally lovin' her class. Even though I'm not the best math student, she helps make it seem a bit easier
Taught material very well and clear.
I still miss her class......
She is a very good professor. She makes you feel like you know what you were doing. She is very understanding and has a great sense of humor. If you want to understand Statistics and get a good grade take this professor.

Boring......
she is the worest ever, no one in my class likes her, i dont think she should be teaching...especially she gives u a sticker if u got a high grade on the test! that is for kids!!! GO BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL!
poor teaching skill, boring class, and unclear explanation. Never help student.
are you guys nuts??she is awesome man...very helpfull, very clear..highly recommended...
She explains things clearly and is familiar with the subject. She gives a lot of tests, quizs, and take home problems. The tests are fair in terms of subject matter and she grades them fairly, but she doesn't give you enough time to finish them. I don't think anyone actually finished one of her tests. Also the book we used wasn't that good.
Prof. Shay is an excellent professor! I was worried that Calculus would be my downfall but now I'm a little more relieved due to her good teaching style.

good professor...she gives extra points(brownies) just for going in the board and writing HW problems down...the extra points definitely help in the end. sad that she is not teaching STATS. next semester..OH yea, she is cool too.

A good teacher. Will always email you homework answers, stay after class just to help you out.
like any math class, it is crucial that you attend class. prof. shay understand that no one is a genius at calculus. she give a thorough lesson, but spends a day or a day and half on each due to time. she cares a lot about everyone passing and give brownie points. it would be smart to do the BP project, they could be what get you to pass.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!!VERY COMPREHENSIVE AND HELPFUL!!TAKE HER AND YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!
BEST OF THE BEST!!EXTREAMLY HELPFUL!!TESTS ARE SIMILAR TO HOMEWORK AND REVIEW SHEET!!
if you are good at math, dont take her. she does not like the students who are good at it.
Dr. Shay is pretty much as good as you can get. She is very comprehensive. She gives defined homework (which is optional, but worth doing), review sheets, and good tests. She strives to make class fun and helps as much as she can. She was my only professor to update grades regularly, which is great.
BEST PROFESSOR AT MCC!!!JUST TAKE HER AND DO YOUR WORK, AND YOU WILL DO OK!!SHE'S EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND FUN!!!
i like her class. easy to follow, very helpful. 3 tests 1 project. everybody can pass.
she's the best teacher to walk the face of the earth...very helpful
Not sure I can recommend...
She is a great teacher. She makes the class crystal clear and gives you a lot of chances to get to get a decent grade. Although she does do all of that, I was going through some hard times that she knew about and had a B in the class. I did bad on the final and needed that B to average out my GPA so I could transfer to a certain school, shegave me
She helped out a lot. I had a lot going on outside of school and she understood and helped me out with any questions I had. She's a great teachers.
I had her fall 09 and I really did not care for her teaching style. She taught from a powerpoint which annoyed me, she skipped steps when working out problems which confused me. she had her favorites and it showed. I did not have a pleasant experience in her class and would not recommended her. Osborne is better.
Took her two semesters in a row, precalc & calc. I blew through her precalc like babymath. But her calc course was less desirable. She uses powerpoints and gets the class involved. However, she loves math a little too much and it wouldn't surprise me if the siding on her house was leopard print. Be her friend and she'll love you.
I love this professor. She is down to earth and easy to relate to. I enjoyed her statistics class. She does problems step by step and she is approachable. She wants her students to pass therefore she is always availabale to help. All of her assigments are online and if you print the notes before class it is much easier to pay attention to her powerpoints.
She looks cute with her leopard collections!! Her lecture is very clear and understandable, tests r fairly easy, give take home quiz plus lots of brownie points!! It's very possible to get an A in her class but u gotta do ur work!
Professor Shay is the bomb. Her passion for math just rubs off on you. Its not everyday you meet a professor who LOVES what they do and shows it. Her test are kind of hard, but it just pushes you to study. She gives brownie points which are extra credit point to be added on your grade. All you have to do is put a homework problem on the broad.
She's a really tough grader, even if you have the right answer you lose points if you don't follow HER steps (that are not in the book or taught by anyone else). Prof Shay is great for regular math, however DO NOT take her for Statistics! She's a perfect example of why most schools require stats instructors to have a degree in statistics not math!
Attendance isn't mandatory but she has clicker questions every lecture so you're essentially losing grade points if you don't show up. Her lectures are fun. The only thing I don't like about exams is the true or false questions. You have to provide proofs and I feel that that's the hardest part about her exams. Take advantage of brownie points.
Professor Shay is outstanding. I took Math 124 (Stats II) and Math 210 (Linear Alegbra) with her, and she is really dedicated to teaching. She assigns a lot of homework but the homework really helps you learn the material. Her classes are very interactive with frequent use of clicker questions. She is very fair with grading.
Very nice professor. Gives extra credit. As long as you do your homework & pay attention you will pass
I have never been good at Math. I took this class 3 times before actually having a professor that's correctly able to TEACH. She offers "brownie points" (extra credit) for those who put homework questions on the board. She also hands out a practice exam. Overall, an outstanding professor who's willing to help with a charming sense of humor.
It is apparent why the educational system sucks in this country. Why are these students rating this professor on a good scale, she sucks. The only reason everyone is satisfied with her is because of the brownie points which she distributes. She is horriiibleee. If she did not give brownie points her ratings would not be great. AVOID HER.
She is a great teacher, overall !!! Wants her students to succeed& offers extra one on one time if you need it. And.. she actually teaches what needs to be learned and the applications in class!
I didn't pass this course due to personal difficulties this sem, but I want to recognize Professor Shay's enthusiasm, dedication, fairness, concern for her students, and desire to make things interesting. She encourages everyone to learn to the point of being able to help others. 2nd class I had with her--great classroom environment.
She's really nice and fair to everyone. Calc 2 is not an easy subject, but she teaches it extremely well and helps you understand each topic one step at a time. She's very understanding too. We were supposed to have a test the week after hurricane sandy hit, but she made it a take-home test, which was a huge relief. Highly recommend.
She can sure put you to sleep. Very monotone, and boring. She distributes brownie points though (points can be added to test grades). She's nice, but she does not tolerate texting or talking. But, when it comes to math, she really knows what she's talking about and she has a great passion. She also has a tattoo of an equation...
Just amazing .!!! Best prof for math ever .!!! I wish i could take her for my every math classes ..!!! She is so friendly and if u do her hw which is nt much , its an easy A class .!! Luv those extra brownie points .!!
Professor Shay is by far the best math professor at middlesex county college. She is a wonderful pleasant person who is willing to help with anything. Very clear as to what is expected of you. Definitely take her!
Professor shay is prob. the best calc professor we got at MCC. She's funny, nice and knows her stuff. She is in love with calc so show an interest in it too and she'll love you back. Her tests weigh a lot which is a problem if you cant take tests. She works with you though to get a better grade. HW, is hard but VERY helpful. GO to class!
Great professor ! what you got to do is practice homework assignments get bonus points. You feel like you are teaching by your mother, she is respectful, ready to help ; But, But ! what you get is what you see, no gift in test.
She made Calculus fun because she had great energy level. Her teaching methods were great. She was patient. Great teacher!
The MCC math department is exceptional except for one fly in the ointment - Kathy Shay. She uses too much technology - crappy power points, clickers, online homework. She explains how to do very simple, generic problems and then gives you ridiculously hard problems on exams. If you can take any other professor. DO IT.. I got A's with Miniere and Vo
Good professor. Very straight forward, she gives you reviews so you know what will be on the test. Her homework is online, which is nice because there are a lot of resources to learn the material. She HATES having phones in the classroom and though it doesn't affect your grade, she take attendance.
She is a little strict but very clear as to what is expected of you. Plus offers extra credit (brownie points) for answering questions in class. Take her!
She is a great Prof. I'm taking her again for calculus
After taking this class, I transformed from a mathophobe to contemplating devoting my life (seriously). Dr. Shay is truly the most professional, finest, talented Professor I have ever had. She is extremely kind and patient. She is also available for help, especially online and in person. Generous with extra credit. She cares for the students!!
Like the guy below me said, Dr. Shay is truly the greatest teacher I ever had. Passionate about the subject, and more so about the well-being about her students. Truly incredible mind! One warning though-- she's really, really, and I mean, REALLY gorgeous, so any guys gotta make sure to stay extra focused on the subject. Hottest teacher on campus!
She's a pretty good professor and passionate about her job. Tests are a bit difficult but if you study using her study guides, you'll do fine. Take advantage of the extra credit she offers. Do the homework, take good notes, go to her for help in her office hours, if necessary.
The tests are hard! I did well on everything else so i'm glad I passed. I hate math but, she made it manageable. I would take her again.
She's a great Stats professor, best one at MCC. She gives a lot of extra credit. Don't miss class! Take good notes & do the homework. Take advantage of the study guides she posts, they are very similar to the tests. Do all extra credit work & go to her office for help. I recommend her to everyone because I hate Math but still did well in her class.
Excellent professor! The only professor that actually knows how to TEACH mathematics. Her study guides before tests prepared me well and enabled me to do well on all exams. She actually made Stats II enjoyable with her unique methods of teaching. Go to her office hours for help! Use her study guide! Take advantage of all extra credit opportunities
The best math professor at Middlesex. She uses Excellent teaching methods and ensures that the class understands the material during her lectures. If you do the homework & complete the projects, you'll do well on the exams. She has many office hours so she's available for extra help. I'd take her if I was you
Excellent professor! Teaches the material very well & makes sure that everyone understands. Has office hours & welcomes all students that need help. Her homework & study guides are extremely helpful for exam preparation. Take her
She's a best professor you can take for Calculus. She helps you till the best of her ability. She gives extra credits which helps boost your grade. She's caring and really nice.
Hardest professor . Test are very hard and Test is not what she teaches from. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Took Calc after skipping Math for 2 years after studying PreCalc A and B. I never used to take Full Math course since I thought I was weak. But I am glad I took a shot at a Full Math course and I was lucky enough to get this professor. She gives alot of ExtraCredit & Easy Quizes and she gives PracTests. Just the HW is annoying and its on MyMathLab.
Math is a hard subject to keep an entire class engaged in, but Professor Shay excels at it. Her use of technology in the classroom is excellent. Offers up to 25 extra credit points for use on exams throughout the semester. She gets so excited about math, it really is amazing. I wish i could have her for every math class i have to take.
Taking her class was the best division I ever made. She is very approachable/ knowledgeable & goes above and beyond as long as you do your very best. The material was hard but I was able to understand her lect with 2 learning disabilities! I will be forever grateful to her. Expect lots of extra credit & simple group quizzes to boost your grade.
Professor Shay is definitely the best math professor a t MCC. She's loving, caring & a great professor because SHE KNOWS HOW TO TEACH MATHEMATICS. I took Stats II with her & did great. Go to class, do your homework, do well on the project & take advantage of her office hours by going for extra help. Her study guides & exams are very similar.
She spent more time teaching how to use these fancy calculators than actual Differential Equations. The class became more about technology than math. Plus the website for homework had an interface that was difficult to type long, complex equations . It would give you 3 tries to guess the correct format, even when there's more than one correct way.
Easy A, do the work and you'll pass. Gives great notes online and made calc easy.
Dr. Shay is one of the few math professors who can make teaching on a powerpoint effective. She explains things really well and gives you extra credit opportunities through the whole semester. She has a group project that lasts the entire semester which was the only downfall of her class. She values students' feedback and works with you if you ask.
Excellent professor! She does a lot to help students. Gives lots of extra credit, an excellent Professor in every way. Math has been my weakness but I did excellent in her stats 2 course
Professor Shay is a fantastic professor for Stats 2. I took her during Spring & passed with B+. Math isn't a strength of mine but her office hours & in-class lectures are easy to learn from. I'd highly recommend her. She gives a lot of extra credit to boost grades, take advantage of that.
The best math professor at MCC. I had her for Stats 2 and passed the course extremely easily. She's a great professor, gives lots of extra credit & is available outside of class. Go to class & to her office for extra help, and you'll definitely ace the course. Her study guides & tests are extremely identical. I'd recommend her to everyone
Shes the most pleasant & wonderful instructor in the math department. Unlike most professors, she actually knows how to communicate mathematics in a manner that enables others to grasp & understand the concepts. Take her, go to class, and take advantage of her office hours. Youll be fine.
Absolutely fabulous professor! Very good instructor, that does a lot to ensure that students do well. Shes available outside of class. Her tests and study guides are very similar. Go to class, go to her office hours for help, if needed. Definitely the best professor for math at MCC. Highly recommend
Fabulous professor in every aspect. She knows & understands the material but more importantly SHE IS GREAT AT TEACHING the material! I highly recommend her. Im not great at math but did well in her class. Take advantage of her office hours and go to her for one-on-one assistance.
Very pleasant professor with an incredible ability to teach complex math courses well. I had her for Stats 2 and did extremely well. She's available outside of class so take advantage of her office hours while also attending all lectures. Highly recommend her.
Professor Shay is a fantastic math instructor. She explains concepts clearly and is always available to help. Use her office hours, do the work, and unstuck ai can be a great study aid. Highly recommend this class.
