Dr. Baker's class alright. It was hard to understand her during the lectures sometimes because she will start to mumble and she flies through her slides. She gives extra credit opportunities though and all the homework is done online which is nice.
The syllabus&class schedule was easy to understand. Couple of lectures in I was prepared for class & labs but something just seemed off about her teaching. She's seems really nice/cares about the class about how much we understand lectures but during the lectures it was difficult to understand her and keep up b/c she goes through powerpoint so fast
She messed up my entire class rooms final grades. everyone was freaking out. Lectures based on slide shows and does not explain clearly. Tests were critical thinking and nothing like the lectures
Dr. Baker is really nice but her teaching can improve. Doesn't really explain things and as others said she goes through the slides really fast. Doesn't take attendance so might as well self-study. Labs were kind of unorganized but she grades fairly. Also exams are similar to online hw. Just read the textbook to study for exams and use quizzes +hw
She is clear about what she expects from her class and will give you extra credit opportunities from time to time.
Professor Baker s lectures were not the most engaging as she reads off the powerpoint for two hours and goes through them rather quickly. She also rambles and isnt always clear. Attendance is not mandatory so you end up teaching yourself the material. At times, she can be rude to her students. Only nice when shes in a good mood.
Its easy to succeed as she just basically gives you the answers to the class objectives a week before the test to memorize, but her attitude came across as weirdly rude. Rushed through lectures, was dismissive towards questions and just seemed annoyed by students. Not great learning
Lecture tests are quite easy because she gives a set of 30-50 questions that will be on the exam and you go over it in class. Lab practicals are not that hard either but its very unorganized and difficult to know what exactly to study for. Baker isn't the best at teaching and she's a bit rude towards her students sometimes. Study the powerpoints.
Dr. Baker is a very knowledgeable instructor. Attendance for lectures aren't mandatory but encouraged. Material on the slide is what is going to be on the exams written & practical. Homework and quizzes are done online. Labs are easy to do if you actually do the work. Never used the textbook and just studied slides. Overall great professor!
SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR AT HIGHLINE. read that again thats why I wrote it in the capital.
stay away from her. She mumbles a lot and yells at students... She will ruin your GPA
I thought Dr. Baker was great. She can be tough but you learn a lot. I think people complain because they don't want to try or they think all classes should be easy. If you are planning on going into the field of medicine, it will only get harder. Stop expecting to slide by.
I loved her dad jokes and how much she genuinely cared for her student. Lovely person, but bad professor. You know the saying "those who can, do; those who can't, teach"? That's her. I feel like maybe she knows what she is talking about, but she has no clue how to transfer the material and make you understand it. BTW Extra credit saves your grade
Took Dr. Baker online during COVID, her lectures are live as well as recorded. It's a tough class but she is very good at explaining topics gives sooooo much extra credit. I would definitely take her again!
Dr. Baker is a great A&P instructor. The lectures and materials are hard to grasp and you do a lot of self learning and teaching being online due to COVID. She is happy to help answer questions, offers a ton of extra credit which really saves your grade. 4 exams, 4 practical's and 1 final+ essay. Study and use time management and you'll succeed.
Lectures are rushed, shed skim tru material, power point slides all text, makes you write an essay (seriously? Like this isnt an English class), just a lot of unnecessary just makes you feel overwhelmed, she gets moody which is unacceptable for a teacher, one time shes didnt show up to class and didnt even excuse herself. Does give extra credit
I definitely wouldn't recommend this class because she has so many exams, many questions and little time for each exam. You have to attend the class or else you won't be able to pass because attending is graded with 100 points. She also doesnt accept any late assignments and doesnt give you any chance to correct yourself. Good luck to you all.
Just no. Passive aggressive, isnt understanding, 80-100 questions for labs for 10 points?! Yeah no. 8 exams, 4 practical 4 written component, idk why she does that. Plus 1 final. Reads off slides for two hours and doesnt elaborate on them. Anyone but her. & her exams are NOTHING like her lectures
No! No! and NOOOO! She wrote me up for plagiarsm because I memorized a definition. Now I have to deal with the student conduct of academic dishonesty. Worst class ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not recommend her at all. Taking her class is miserable. Her explanation make students confused, disorganized, and always making mistakes in syllabus, assignments, and avoid her.
She made so many mistakes during the class, Canvas assignments, and exams. Her instruction is really confused and always changing. Really frustrated in her class, not recommended at all.
unorganized had to be corrected on test/ quiz answers by students often, passive aggressive, flies through lectures, 4 exams/practical's plus finals PLUS "critical analysis paper" as another part of the final; like BFFR. WORST professor I've ever had. Doesn't care about students. Be ready to self teach and guess what is labeled on the practical.
No.. Run away! Find a different class! I know most people will be back after wasting 3 months to add comments and I hate to say it but most of the people in the comments warned you. Not only did she not know what she was doing, the highest grade for most exams was a b, run far away if you have morals, job, love sleeping, hate being yelled at. RUN
If you think you can "tough out this professor and class" despite all the bad reviews. DON'T. She does not know how to teach this large sum of information in her class and your grades and understanding depend on how much time you spend reading from the text, slides, and lab manual while watching recorded lectures. #isurvivedkatiebaker
DONT take this class. From experience of knowing Katie for years she's very passive aggressive. Overly reacts for students not to cheat by yelling at students to take off hats before tests and makes everyone put their phones on her desk before exams, and stares at students. She will read off slides for two hours and make you do all the work at home.
I thought Dr.Baker was a fine person, but seriously lacked teaching skills. The majority of the homework was discussing social justice issues that loosely related to A&P. The class average failed most of the exams, and she rarely lectured on content that prepared us for exams. I took this class to learn about A&P, not about her political agendas.
She's definitely gotten better since the older reviews. Sometimes would tell you something is on the test and then doesn't mention it which wastes studying time. Willing to meet with you and talk about exams and how to do better. The teaching style wasn't the best but can be nice and funny
Katie is great! Challenging + interesting. Gave examples of how topics relate to real-life. My advise is to manage your time. Make a schedule. Go to Office hours. DON'T IGNORE STUDY GUIDES! Prepare for class and attend class. Class discussions would have ben better if everyone came prepared - find people who come prepared to work with in class.
each week there are tests and quizzes on paper in-person. the assignments are around 20% of the grade, and tests and quizzes are much more. Especially if the English language is not your first language it would be a challenge for you, please do not take it.
DO NOT TAKE her Classes. There are each week quizzes and tests. Especially if English is not your first Language dot take this class. mush mush tough.
She has no good exams, not teaching well especially lab times. it is like a self-study class. She just printed out a list of 200 bones, 500 muscles 400 nervous, and she say OK go head a know materials. Her exam is tough, hard graders. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!!
If you hate yourself, this is the class to take. Lectures are just reiterations of lecture videos with no new information. If you take her class, start the materials before the quarter or else you will be playing catch up while drowning in assignments. If you have lab on the same day as the exams, expect the labs to be useless and stressful.
I dont feel respected as a student in this class. Expect to be treated like a middle school student. Material-wise, you have to teach yourself. Hope for the best, and prepare for the worst on the exam.
Do whatever you can to avoid her class.
She is nice and means well but is incapable of teaching or delivering the material in a way students can absorb it. Class is fast-paced but teaching style does not help at all, she basically reads directly off slides with little to no new information which makes it feel like you're wasting time attending the almost 2hr lecture, uninteresting.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! RUN AWAY! She is the worst teacher I've ever had. Lectures are a waste of time and her teaching style is terrible. Exams are extremely hard and nothing like what she lectures. Expect to have post lab quizzes every week that will bring your grade down. You just have to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
DO NOT TAKE
heavy on test with only a week or two to study for a practical and written exams the written exams are composed of 60 to 70 multiple choice Q's and 3 to 8 written and are worth 150 points. the practical exams mostly consist of identifying bone, tissue, muscles, and are worth 100 points combined are worth 60 percent of your grade. spelling counts
The worst science teacher I've ever had. Doesn't teach at all, doesn't provide formatted study guides, asking her questions is like practically begging for her to do her job. Is very obvious that she does not care about her students. Throw whatever on tests and then expects u to understand all the material from her quick 4 chapters in one unit.
Dont take her class. Her grading is really tough and will ask you the questions on the material that she didnt even touched. Her grading criteria is too bad on exams specially. She just put everything on students to do by own.
whatever you do, do not take baker for anything. she is the worse professor at highline. multiple people have had to retake her class and her lectures are terrible because it is a regurgitation of her online vidoes. passive aggressive, not very helpful, and does not take the time to break information down. im warning u to run
Avoid this professor unless you want to retake this class again. She is not thorough with her explanation's and her lectures seem to be surface level while her exams are specific, and require deep understandings of topics she might have mentioned once or lightly touched on it. Even with that in mind, exams make up 75% of your overall grade.
She is very rude! Has no respect for others and she does do favoritism as well. The stuff on exam is nothing close to what she says will be on the exam, she says one thing and does another. It is so hard because you spend time studying but none of that is on the exam which is so annoying. Take someone else, do not take her !!
Worst lectures I've ever experienced. If u read the book then lecture is useless bc she only goes over the simplest concepts but expects in depth understanding on the exam. Also has a useless project that has nothing to do with anything we are learning. Expect to read at least 2 LONG chapters each week and still understand NOTHING.
She's okay, her lectures are really bad and mediocre at best. She doesn't space out the information, she is cramming everything down. Her office hours are not that helpful either, she wants you in and out. If she's the only teacher teaching 160, 241 or 242, do yourself a favor and wait for the next quarter, there are so many people retaking her
Katie's lectures do not help with understanding the content IN THE SLIGHTEST. She will go on and on about the easiest parts of the chapter for 2 hours straight, but barely touch on a lot of more difficult concepts. Also, I promise you, it is NOT just Running Start students who are struggling in this class; you WILL struggle with Katie too.
Horrible teacher ever. Her post labs aren't even questions in the book. She pulls them out from thin air. Her lectures are bad, when you ask a question she is dismissive and doesn't let you finish them. Told a student to have a better reading comprehension when their 2nd language is English. She is discouraging for those who want to go to medicine
Her post-lab quizzes are just pulling out of thin air and yet it takes around 20% of the grade. Her study guide isn't helpful either, there's nothing that matches on the unit exam. And if English isn't your native tongue, I definitely don't recommend taking her classes
Baker doesn't teach so you learn anything from it but just want to spent her scheduled time. she barely take anything important to talk about but talk more about mathematical aspects of the subjects that not even going to be in exams. exams are out of blue. and to get 3.0 in her class minimum of 20 hour of self study is required. SELF STUDY CLASS.
She give pre quiz/ post lap quiz like every other day and 3 unit exam 100 point/ and the final 200 points to much I started to hate bio because of her , her teaching is bad
She gives full points on lab reports as long as you do them and not a tough grader on assignments, but post-labs she's tough on and they'll be on like small things where she expects detailed answers. She reads off of slides for 2hrs in her lectures and 3 + 1 final exam are all MCQ & some Q's will be on something that she went over for like 2 secs.
She is the worst teacher at highline. How is she qualify to teach? Her study guides barely help you on the actual test. Blames the whole class for failing. Post lab quizzes is small things she went over. Was mad about students sharing work but doesn't care if you cheat! I will never take her again.
If you want to retake this subject take her I don't recommend runnn
After taking her for Bio 160, I can confidently say I will not be taking her ever again. Even though her grading is easy, she's only grading on completion. I have no idea why she brags about people failing 241. Forget wanting a 4.0, you'll be thankful for even passing. She is irritating as a teacher. Good luck to those taking her in 241 and 242
Professor Baker was awful; her teaching style was bad. She would basically just go over the slides for 2 hours, and when students would ask questions, she would not clarify them. I would not recommend taking her if you actually want to succeed.
She just talks for two hours without really breaking things down or helping us understand. The exams aren't based on the textbook or what we actually cover in class, so it's really hard to study. If you wanna retake the class or just barely pass, go ahead and take her. Otherwise, I don't recommend it.
Wow. This was probably the most stressful quarter of my life. Katie is I hope a good person but a terrible teacher with no passion. Be prepared to keep questions to yourself because she yells at you for asking she also brags about how many fail 241 with her like thanks girl I'm taking that next 😐 she's kinda unavoidable but don't take her if u can
If you love surprises this class is for you! Seriously, post lab quizzes and exams were pulled from nowhere and she never seems to think that if the whole class fails then it's probably her fault.💀 Lectures were kinda useless when preparing for exams she just skips over the random details she puts on the exams. Hated her class, run if you can.
Although Baker seemed to enjoy bio, she does not know how to teach it. She often seems confused during lectures, and is never prepared for labs. I spent 2-3 hours on each textbook chapter, and a lot of it was irrelevant to the exams. If you want to succeed, you gotta learn on your own and hope for the best. Beware of her passive aggressiveness.
Katie Baker might have been the worst professor I have taken in my life. She is very passive aggressive when you ask questions and is not clear with her instructions, especially in labs and in postlabs. She is not considerate for people and what they have going on. I think I have lost more hair in this one quarter than I did in my whole life. DONT.
Most of her assignments are very unorganized and if you ask her a question you will usually feel the passive aggressiveness OR get a answer that does not answer your question. If there is ANY other teacher you can take PLEASE take them or do it at a different quarter if you have time.
I'm writing this in case the other ratings weren't enough. She enjoys teaching, but that doesn't mean she's good. I loved Biology until her class. She embarrassed me by claiming I couldn't have finished my first exam early. Has random pop quizzes, and the exams don't match the lectures, making it impossible to study properly.
Although she went easy on grading the lab report, she made me hate biology so much. You would be expected to study AT LEAST 20 hours per week to get a 3.0. There will be 3 unit exams + 1 final exam for 200 points, post-lab quizzes that have NOTHING match with the lab manual. If you hate your mental health, take her class.
Taking her class was the worst decision I've ever made as a student. I wish I listened to all reviews. My mental health is going down because. Too much anxieties because of her exam questions that were not even discussed. If you don't want regrets, please do yourself a favor, enroll next quarter, another school or anything else but take her class.
I am going to drop out of this class. I feel so disrespected as a student; she told the class we were a bunch of failures. She is the worse teacher here at highline, and her attitude towards students' needs to be reported
I don't understand why she is on a power trip; people like her are the reason why the medical field is so understaffed. Instead of complaining about the class failing, maybe put in the effort to actually teach us. Future students who are in need of a Bio160, 241, 242 class, don't take her. She will make you redirect your career choices.
She is the worse teacher at highline, I've taken her for Bio160 and for 241. Her lectures are awful, she always complains about students not studying. She never takes accountability for the class failing. If you want to suffer in this class, take her. Please think twice and read these reviews before considering enrolling in her class.
When our 2nd practical scores came out, she said some of us were mentally disabled. Don't take her
I should have listened to past classmates and either take A&P at a different school or wait for a better teacher. I unfortunately paid for this class and the possibility of retaking this class is high. Think twice if you are paying for classes. This teacher is horrible and mean spirted. Takes no accountability for her poor teaching.
How is she qualified to work here? Do not take her, she is the meanest most passive aggressive teacher at highline. She feels like her students don't study! If you take her and read all these ratings, you have been warned. Can't complain when so many people told you not to take her.
Do not take this class if you value your mental health. I was overwhelmed in this class, and it does not help that the teacher is a mean lady. My mental health got so bad to the point that I developed hives. The teacher does not teach well, nothing from her lectures is on the test and blames the whole class for failing.
This class was very frustrating. The professor gave too much homework, her lectures were unclear, and she rarely explained things well.
Please listen to the reviews and don't take her. I thought they were overexaggerating, but I was wrong.
I don't know how she is still a professor at the school, she is not meant to be a teacher at all. she doesn't resonate with her students and expect far too much out of them though her teaching is below average. she spends time repeating herself the entire lecture instead of answering questions. exams are ridiculously hard and not planned well.
She cannot teach, there's too many test and not enough time to study. I don't understand why she feels the need to blame us for not doing well on her test?? She degrades her students so much.
If you value you sanity take a different class This is one lecture who will make you question everything you know . Instructions are all over the place and unclear leaving most confused .You study ahead go to class and leave a very confused student
The worst professor at highline. She cannot teach, she does not explain things well and blames the students for failing. I get that ANP is not meant to be easy, but having a teacher like her does not make it better. You will not feel respected as a student
Words can't describe how happy I am to be done with her and her class. I would advise future students to look at other options to take ANP if she's the only option. No point taking her when so many people retook her more than 2 time. I hope she realizes how bad of a teacher she is and rethinks her approach on teaching. Please do better Dr Baker
The worst professor at Highline.
Good luck to those taking her, she is an interesting teacher that cant teach
The stress was unreal my hair actually began to gray
The absolute teacher I've met in my life. Not sure what she is still doing there. I'm surprised management still keeps her despite the fact that only less than half of her class make it to a passing grade. Please stay away from this class by all means or be ready to suffer mental breakdowns every week!
I wish I did'nt positive talk myself way back that I can do this despite the many bad reviews about her. She totally messed up my straight As in the past quarters. Never have I felt so dumb in my life bec of her incompetent teaching approach. I'd rather study alone because whenever I listen to her unorganized lectures, I leave even more confused.
Dr. Baker is very knowledgeable in her field, but she does not explain her knowledge in way that is easy to understand. Before lectures, reading the entire chapter is necessary, or you will most likely be lost in her explanations.
There is no reason why a bio 160 class should be this hard. I asked my other friends who took 160 at other institutions and they said my teacher was just making the class hard for no reason. Katie is the type of teacher that can't stand to see students be successful, she shows favoritism in her classes as well and will yell at you if she dislike u
She is a nice human being I just don't understand her lectures
she's accessible outside class and offers lots of extra credit opportunities that are easy to earn. It's not hard to get 3.0 if you follow her instructions. If you're in a situation where you can't prioritize school, the class may feel very difficult. two weakly homework: one on pearson, which allows multiple attempts, and one Canvas discussion.
When I took AP1 with Baker, I studied so hard, 5 days a week, minimum of 4 hrs a day. I did everything to get extra credits but still ended up failing. I took the same course at another college, I didn't struggle as much and got 4.0.
She doesn't know how to teach, so be ready to teach yourself the content. She is extremely passive aggressive. Don't bother asking questions in her class. Not sure how the school still has her in this department despite this many negative comments; maybe a different job could do her good and save the GPA of many students.
Katie Baker is boring and unhelpful. AP 241 is all memorization, but her exams are impossible—worth 50% of your grade—and her study guides don't match the tests. Forces you to watch her lecture videos, and in class repeats the same thing she said in the videos. Also never answers your questions. Find a different teacher!
It's only the second week and shes already stressing me out. I don't understand why her lecture is so bad????
the stress was unreal. many mental breakdowns and crashouts. please save yourself and take another class. she will drain your will to live.
Tests every week. Class activities every week. Stress every week. Homework every week.
