Dr. Beltaire is an awesome professor and veterinarian. She is very enthusiastic and very "into" what she is teaching. She encourages hands-on learning, which is exactly what an ansci/prevet major needs! Do not hesitate to ask questions in class, there are no stupid questions in her class.
I absolutely adore Dr. Beltaire. She has so much experience in the field and so much passion for what she is doing that it makes the class that much better, and makes me that much more eager to attend. Can't wait to take 104 with her!
Dr. Beltaire is an amazing professor and veterinarian. She loves what she's doing and it shows! Her power points are everything you need to know for the exams. Even if you have a disability she will do anything in her power to help you . Couldn't of asked for a better professor for my first semester.
Dr.Beltaire is such a sweetheart. I couldn't imagine a better person for her job. She is always prepared and really enjoys teaching. She is very fair as far as testing, grading and attendance and clearly wants the best for her students. Not only a great professor, but a role model too!
Dr. Beltaire is an awesome professor and person. She takes time after class to answer any questions you have if you go up to her. Her powerpoints are all you need for the exams. She gives you review sheet that tells you everything to study. I definitely recommend. I loved it and learned a lot. My favorite class by far.
Dr. Beltaire is such a nice and understanding person and is really dedicated to helping her students learn. She's super approachable but also kind of intimidating because she is so perfect. Her perspective as a veterinarian when teaching the class is also really unique and makes you apply what you learn to real life cases.
Lectures are very, very clear. She will help you if you ask, however, sometimes I felt like when I asked questions she got somewhat annoyed with me. Other than that, she is a wonderful professor and person. She is very passionate about her work and seems to genuinely enjoy teaching it as well.
Dr. Beltaire is a wonderful teacher! It amazes me how she knows the entire class by name after a week or two of classes and she will remember you years later. Her power points covered everything on her exams and she gave study guides. If you are interested in the material, show up, and put in some effort, you will get an A.
Animal science 101 was by far my favorite class of the semester! Dr. Katie Beltaire is an amazing professor. Can't wait for 103 this spring !!!!
Katie Beltaire is an excellent professor. Her lectures are as clear as possible and she posts the lectures on Moodle before class. He exams are very straightforward and usually gives review sheets for them. She is very passionate about what she teaches and is actually perfect and an inspiration. Favorite professor in college so far.
Has clear-cut powerpoints that you should take notes on. Loved her so much. My favorite professor so far.
Love Dr. Beltaire! Her lectures are great and she really sparks your interest on different animals. The two mornings of barn chores sound terrible, but they aren't bad at all. Exams aren't too hard and she doesn't do quizzes. The labs are super easy too. You really get all of your info from her lecture slides and what she says in class.
Loved taking ANSCI 101 during my first semester. The lectures were very interesting but had a lot of info in them. Her exams aren't too hard but you will have to study in order to pass them. If I had to redo my first semester again, I would definitely sign up for a class with her.
Absolutely loved this class so much, Dr. Beltaire is one of my best professors yet. Tests were not that hard, do expect a practical at the end of the semester but it really isn't bad if you study. She knows all of her students and wants you to succeed.
Dr. Beltaire is super sweet and very straightforward. Not very concerned about dressing up her lectures or herself! She's very laid back and her lectures are enjoyable. I love going to her class and I love learning from her. She's definitely one of my favorite professors in the VASCI program.
Dr. Beltaire is the greatest professor you will EVER HAVE (point blank)!!! That is all that needs to be said :)
Great teacher. Charismatic, occasionally funny. Keeps you engaged in class and is probably the most responsible teacher I have ever met. Always uploads grades on time, and gives you everything you need to do well in her class.
One of my favorite professors on campus! KB's always there to help and will go to great lengths to make sure her students succeed. Very clear lectures, great examples from her own experience, fair exams as long as you put in the effort, and she's pretty funny too! You'll do great as long as you show up to lectures and participate actively in labs!!
Lectures are easy to follow, all the material you need are on the slides. If you know the slides, you'll ace the tests. Attend barn chores and anything in the barn for credit. Labs are easy 20 points, no homework, participation matters but not counted. Learned a lot from this class, always would recommend.
She knows everything about veterinary medicine and animal science. She is the veterinarian for UMass farms. Her lectures are easy to follow, but heavy on material. Always answers emails. Very respected. She hates when students are late to class! She expects students to be responsible adults. Attend barn chores and don't miss any labs!
Best lectures! Very dense and fast paced but always interesting and comprehe
This woman is amazing, the classes have a lot of lectures and information to memorize but it is still enjoyable for any AnSci major.
Dr. Beltaire is not only an amazing professor, but she really cares about her students. Her background in veterinary medicine allows us to go much deeper into what we are learning. If you put the time in and study the lectures, you will do well on the exams. I personally never used the book, so wouldn't suggest buying it. Great class to take!
The nicest teacher I think I have ever had. She truly cares about the veterinary field, and my passion to become a vet has truly grown since having a class with her.
Katie is an amazing teacher! She cares so much about each of her students and even learns their names! You have to go to each and every single class in order to get everything you need for the exams but the exams are straight forward and exactly hat you would expect. Labs are also fun and easy. There is no homework.
KB's a really good professor. She goes really fast in lectures, so be ready to write, but her tests are pretty easy if you know your vocab. You don't need the textbook. Gives a lot of information about the subject in general, but you won't need all of it for the exams (Don't worry too much about the specifics of history, just the trends).
Dr. Beltaire is by far one of my favorite professors at UMass. She's super kind, smart, and passionate about what she does and it definitely shows in every class. Her tests aren't too bad, definitely study though, and she is always around if you need help or just have a question for her. 10/10 would recommend, everyone I've talked to loves her.
She makes the lectures really enjoyable and durable during an hour span of class.
Love KB!!
KB is one of those professors where you can tell she's extremely passionate and knowledgable about the subject. She not only cares about the material she's teaching but cares about her students too; always taking the time to answer questions the best she can and writing up review sheets for exams. Make sure you attend class and take good notes.
KB is an amazing professor who obviously cares about both the subject matter and her students. Shes hilarious and makes the class really enjoyable. You will learn a lot from her, just take good notes (she loves percentages as exam questions!) and stay on top of things to get an A.
I would take every single class with KB if that were an option.
KB is wonderful! I've taken 101, 103, and two semesters of Belties with her. Her lectures are interesting, and as long as you actually want to be there you won't have a problem. She is clearly so passionate, and it really translates into her teaching. Her tests for 101 and 103 are easy as long as you went to class and studied.
Dr. Beltaire has to be one of my favorite instructors of all time. She is so clearly passionate about what she teaches and so well-versed in every topic. She puts in a lot of work for her slideshows and lectures, and always answers any questions. Lectures do move quickly because of how much material there is, but she's very clear and concise.
Not only an awesome professor but a great person as well. Very knowledgeable, kind and takes every opportunity to teach her students. She cares about her students' success' in and out of the classroom. Attendance is taken, but nearly all notes are posted online. Exams and lab practicals are extremely fair. A great course!
Not to be dramatic or anything but I'd die for KB
This class was amazing. No homework, tests were pretty easy, and the labs were super fun for the most part. The only reason I didn't get an A was because I didn't prepare enough for the lab practical. But she is a great prof, being a vet herself she is so knowledgeable and understanding, even funny. Show up to class and you'll be fine.
One of the best professors I've ever had. She sparks students' interest and explains concepts very clearly and at a basic level. Very willing to chat outside of class, clear assignments, tests, and grading.
KB is the best! Most of the class is memorization and very straightforward. She is my favorite professor.
Katie is amazing. She is extremely understanding and caring. I loved her class and learned a lot even in the online circumstances. She really does go the extra mile fore her students.
KB is fantastic. Inspiring, very well respected, funny (without knowing it), and down-to-earth. Does not assign busywork. All exams are very fair as long as you study her material. She goes above and beyond to help students when they seek her out. I can't recommend her enough!
Prof. Beltaire is so kind and flexible. Her lectures go extremely fast and she tests on what she goes over in class. She does assign a textbook but mainly as a supplemental so it is not required. Definitely study for the lab practical ahead of time! It is a lot of content and doesn't use a normal test structure.
As long as you study and show up to lab, this class is an easy A. The exams are strictly memorization, you never have to apply any concepts or anything. She does flyyyy through lectures but she always posts the notes. DO NOT GET THE TEXTBOOK. I wasted my money and never used it, all the info needed is in her lecture notes.
I am scared of Dr. Beltaire but also in the I respect her a lot kind of way. As long as you study and attend classes/labs/barn chores/etc. you will get a good grade. Hardly any homework. You don't need the textbook but it can help since her lectures do go fast. She is very passionate about the subject. Love the hands-on experience.
Great professor to teach this class! Really gets down to the nitty gritty of each topic. 103 is a little easier because its all management based and she uses her own experiences to teach the class as well! Highly recommend this class if you're going into the animal science major!
Ever since I joined this class with this professor, I instantly knew I would succeed in it. She encourages engagement in her class and really cares about her students! 101 is a difficult class because there's a lot of numbers and terminology to remember but I think she does a really good job with teaching it! If you listen, you will succeed!
Doctor Beltaire is the best professor ive had so far at Umass. She cares so much about her students and always answered my emails when I had any issues. She is the most understanding professor ive ever encountered. She is extremely passionate when she speaks about animals and it is made very clear through her lectures. She is awesome.
KB is the best professor I've had at UMass. She's so knowledgeable and experienced, yet she's so easy going and absolutely lovable. You'll make wonderful memories with her. Her exams are straightforward and her lectures are fantastic. She wants you to succeed. I've had her for two semesters and she's the best professor ever.
Best professor I've had by far! She's always passionate about the material that she is teaching. There's a lot of material covered, but with quizlets and studying it's very easy to understand. She uses her own personal experiences as cases to cover during class to help us engage with the content. Lots of hands on experience in labs/barn chores.
I've only taken Animal Science 101 so far but Dr. Beltaire's lectures have been fantastic & very engaging. She explains material very thoroughly and clearly but keeps it interesting by including personal stories related to content & answering any questions that students may have. It's clear she really cares about what she's teaching.
I love her SO much!
Hands down one of the best professors and instructors I have ever had. I also have the benefit of having her as an academic advisor and have her for my Cattle Management class. She is very down to earth and approachable and genuinely seems to care about her students and the topics that she teaches. Wish I could take a class with her every semester.
Very kind and easy
LOVE KB! She is so passionate and the most amazing person ever please notice me KB i will be so happy shes like a celebrity like pls :DDDDDD
KB is one of the best professors here. The textbook is useless, never used it as all the information needed is presented on the slides. The exams are straightforward, and she typically throws in an extra credit question. You can tell she cares about her students and is passionate about what she is teaching.
Dr. Beltaire is such a great lecturer. She does go quite fast though, I recommend taking notes on the slideshow before class if possible. She will emphasize things you need to know for the exam in class, and she LOVES questions about reproduction. All in all she is so great and really cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
I genuinely have no bad things to say about Dr. Beltaire, she is very passionate and cares about what she is teaching. Textbook is optional, I bought mine so don't make that same mistake :) Material for lab practical is available on moodle and is that exact material. Final exam is not cumulative but definitely study those powerpoint slides.
Prof. Beltaire is so knowledgeable and is good at simplifying difficult topics. You have to study for the exams but the content isn't difficult. Its a class that is very easy to get an A in and is very entertaining. The lecture material is easy to study from and you know what to expect on the exams.
KB was amazing. She was enthusiastic about what she teaches which just motivated me to do well. There was a lot of memorization in this class, she is definitely a numbers and percentages person. If you study for exams, you will be fine. The text book is not required, everything is on the lecture slides.
KB is very charismatic and kind! As long as you go over the slides, exams will be fine. Things written in a different color on the slides will most likely be on the exam! Quizlet helps a TON (a lot of small percentages to remember.) For the lab practical USE THE STUDY GUIDE, it was exactly the same. Textbook not required.
KB is the best professor on this campus hands down. I wish she could teach every course I have to take. Her slide decks and exams are well-written and correlate well with each other. Exams are fine as long as you know the material from the lecture. The lab practical final was a stressful event but other than that the course is amazing.
I genuinely have nothing bad to say about KB, I wish she taught all the ansci courses. Labs offer amazing hands on experience and her lectures are awesome she's a great person, love her!
Dr. Beltaire was by far one of the best professors I had. Her lectures were very well formatted, but they were pretty loaded with material. During each lecture, attendance was taken every time. Dr. Beltaire's labs were also really enjoyable. Her grading is fair, and she is very kind. Overall, she is a very organized and likeable professor.
This class is disorganized & way too much work for 2 credits. U need to complete 10 hours outside of class at the farm, which doesn't sound bad until you remember that it's a 30 min drive there and hours are only offered at a few inconvenient times each week. I
Dr. Beltaire was the best teacher I had at Umass. She provided all of the resources to succeed and get an A. The labs are a great grade booster because it's easy to get 100s. The exams I found a little challenging, though, since there were many slides to memorize. Study for the lab practical very far in advance; you'll thank yourself later.
Pros: Amazing professor and clearly cares about her students. Cons: Attendance is taken at every lecture, the class is extremely lecture heavy and the slides are loaded with information so it's important to study in advance or you will be sorry come exam time, two times during the semester you have to get up at 6am for barn chores.
Beltaire's teaching style is great. There is a textbook you can buy, but there is no need to because her exams come straight from what is on her lectures. She explains material very, very well, and is always open to answering questions. She does not give homework or quizzes usually.
KB is such an amazing lecturer. She is incredibly thorough with what you need to know, and adds her own life experiences as a vet to her lectures. I have gotten so many 'fun' facts from her to torture friends and family with. There are also lots of opportunities to boost your grade if you aren't great on tests. I love Dr. Beltaire.
KB is literally the best teacher I have ever had. She has so much knowledge that she truly wants to share. Her lectures are dense but she explains things super well, giving real life examples from her experience as a Vet. Attendance is mandatory and phones can't be out but you really want to pay attention in her class. Literally 10/10.
Basically the best ansci professor at umass. Get close to her so she will write you a fire recommendation.
I had the opportunity to be a TA for KB as well as have her as an academic advisor and she is easily one of the sweetest and most caring human beings you will ever meet. She takes time the time to get to know you on a personal level and it really shows. Take every class you can with this woman.
She is a great professor and great person. I had her for 101 and 103 and she will make an effort to remember you're name and details about you. Don't be afraid to talk to her!
Amazing professor! She really cares about student success and enjoys teaching. Lots of lecture material, but that's to be expected. You have a lot of time to prepare for exams and they are all fair. She takes the time to get to know everyone. Labs with her were also fun!
Approachable, very smart, in-depth fast lectures. Read the slides before and after class. Just the slides are on the exam, not the (unnecessary) textbook or her extra stories (although those are interesting). A bit memorization-heavy. Exams are tough but match what she teaches. Labs are fun but you only 3x per semester.
This class is a lot of memorizing!
I love KB! She's so nice and she weaves personal experience from being a vet into lectures. The exams are very easy! Just make flashcards based on the slideshows and you'll ace them. Yes, memorization is required, but what else did you expect from a 101 class? Don't buy the textbook, I didn't use it at all!!!!!
LOVE Dr. Beltaire, such a kind person who makes note heavy lectures fun and engaging. Lots of notes, but no homework and exams are very easy if you study a few days in advance. Says you should use a textbook but honestly I never needed it. Loved this class!
She is an amazing person. She is very caring and inspiring. You can tell she really loves what she does and wants her students to succeed. If you have any questions, she is extremely easy to talk to. Her tests were not hard, but there was a good amount of memorization. If you stay on top of things, you will do really well in her class.
Dr. Beltaire is very passionate about what she teaches, having lectures filled with personal experiences tied to the slides. All of the information is as straight forward as possible-- you're tested on just what comes off of the slides. After finishing this course, I am very inspired to continue learning on my Animal Science/Pre-vet major track.
Great ansci professor, lectures are very easy to understand and she makes everything relatively clear. Exams were not that hard, everything came from the lectures. No quizzes or homework which is really nice. Attendance helps your grade
Great lecturer, very interesting and cares about her students learning. She is funny and knows what she is talking about. Exams were off the lectures with no homeworks or quizzes
She is AMAZING! Her teaching style is very easy to follow and it is clear that she is passionate about what she teaches. I did fine without reading the textbook, the textbook is good for reinforcement. The class is easy to study for because it is a lot of terminology, so Quizlet will be your best friend.
Dr. Beltaire is hands down on the of the best professors I've ever had. Her lectures were engaging and very interesting. She's very passionate and knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Go to class and the labs! It does make a difference in your grade and understanding the material. Don't bother with the textbook, we never used it even once.
I love this woman so much - I never once felt bored in her lectures, she makes everything so interesting. She LOVES veterinary medicine and it shows, I would recommend her every day.
