Dr. Katie is awesome. She's tough, but fair. Her methods are unorthodox (we had to volunteer at a Homeless shelter and put on an event there) but ultimately very worthwhile.
15% of the grade is participation. If you don't speak 30 times per class you will get half credit which hurt majority of the class I was in. She is heartless and very demeaning.
So rude, not considerate of her students and does not care if you do well or not. Quiz and test questions are always controversial. Do not take her if you can avoid it!
One of my favorite professors. Is interested in expanding her students horizons, whether we wanted it or not. Def think this class will help me get a job, which is more than I can say for most classes I have taken in this backwater town.

She gives ppt with fill in the blanks as your only supplement.
Literally doesn't teach anything. Gives you BLANK power points for you to fill out and that's her way of teaching. She changes one or two words in her quizzes and tests so they're all tricky. Basically have to memorize the book.
Pretty good lectures. Grades mainly on grammar, expects you to write like a graduate student when the paper is simply about a football game. Textbook is essential to passing the class. Required readings. Also must come to class or grade gets dropped by a whole letter.
She is not the best writer when it comes to tests, but the tests are too easy.
Quizzes and tests are so poorly done and give you 15 minutes to answer 20 questions, including multiple fill in the blanks (questions are confusing and impossible to find). This is nonsense. You NEED the book if you want to pass these by any means. Would ONLY take this class if it is mandatory for your major and would not recommend this professor.
Katie seems friendly and laid-back in the beginning of the semester but don't let this fool you. Her exams are insanely specific where studying all the material is only slightly helpful. She's very rude when she answers emails. Read material before class bc there are pop quizzes that count for your grade. seems like a nice woman but don't take.
The tests have absolutely nothing what so ever to do with the lectures in class. She gives you no recommendations for reviewing for it except read the book. Treats students like they are her 6 year old children with a full seating chart, no use of electronics, keeps us late or till exactly the minute class ends always. Overall rude and frustrating
If you want to drop out of college take her class. And be sure to learn what a bollard is and who was in the 2003 Rugby World Cup. Or you won't ever pass a class.
This class was absurd. It was online and as mentioned in other reviews, the grading and expectations were always ambiguous. Students NEVER knew what to expect on exams. Teacher would tell you what to focus on only for exam to ask most obscure questions. If you mention anything on the topic that you learned outside of course material, it's wrong.
To be honest, I didn't like Dr. Flanagan much at first. For a teacher of a Sports Management class she doesn't seem to know that much about sports. But then I learned the difference between Sports and Sport, and that's sort of the point. Great powerpoints and tough tests, but a good class overall.

Take this class if you want to learn and talk about sports for a grade twice a week. There is only two test the entire semester. However, the tests are pretty hard. Her questions are very specific but just skim the chapter and go to class and you'll do fine. A Bollard is a barricade to prevent cars from driving up to buildings. it's on the final.
Katie is definitely an energetic teacher who wants you to use the same amount of energy outside of class. Attending a conference and 3 separate volunteer trips were required. Choose your seat wisely because Katie has you do a lot of conversation activities with those around you. Also watch out, shes a very tough grader on essays.
Last week I graduated and I wouldnt have done it without Dr. Flanagan. I havent always been a confident person, but she made it so that didnt matter. She supported me, encouraged me, challenged me, and most importantly, inspired me to be more than I expected of myself.
If you're a Sports Management major there is no way around it- you will have to take her classes. This is really too bad since her classes are always harder than they need to be. Keep an eye on your grade until the end, you'll get docked points for little reason and need to fight it. She grades very tough and requires "volunteering" for a grade. GL
Her lectures were awful and she took points off of assignments for no reason. Her idea of "teaching" is posting a bunch of random articles that have nothing to do with the lesson. Her actual "lecture" videos were just her reading off of poorly done PowerPoints. She can't even make a PowerPoint correctly. She makes an easy class unnecessarily hard.
Dr. Flanagan is a great teacher, I really enjoyed her class. If you put in just a little effort you will do well. She's an amazing woman and cares a lot about her students.
Dr. Flanagan is a very smart professor devoted to helping her students succeed. She does a great job of getting the class engaged in class time by sharing her expertise in the subject. This class inspired me to pursue sports management, and it is very passable if you get are motivated to get your work done. Would definitely take again
Way too much work for an entry level class, and assigns like 5 projects that all coincide with each other. The volunteering assignment simply isn't practical in a class of 150+ with people who may not have transportation to these things. Too much work and really weird random deadlines. Also a nightmare trying to coordinate between her and the TAs.
Dr. Flanagan has helped me totally understand everything I would need to know to work in the Sport Management field and I am very happy that I chose to take this class. She is always very helpful and very descriptive and as long as you are very interested and put some effort into her class, you will not have a problem passing.
Her class isn't difficult if you read the textbook and memorize every little thing she says. Her Powerpoints aren't helpful at all because they only have pictures on them and her tests are fill in the blank and extremely specific. She is a very sweet, kind, and respectful person but her assignments don't reflect the course material.
Took Dr. Flanagan for both SPM4013 and Intro to SM and both classes are essentially the same. Easy assignments but with obnoxiously random exams. I think the mean for my class's exams sat around a low C just because how random they are and how little she gives you on what to study. You'll get an A or a B fine if you do the work but GL on her exams
Not very knowledgeable on Sports at all. Forces students to volunteer OUTSIDE of class for assignments. The lecture slides have nothing to do with the Exam material usually just pictures. often resulting in low grades. Exams are fill in the blanks and true, false. Okay so the class itself is not bad at all. However, the exams are AWFUL- like AWFUL AWFUL. That being said, with all of the supplementary assignments it is still possible to get an A in her class. Dr. Flanagan is extremely nice and passionate about her students' success. Unfortunately, I will admit she makes her exams harder than necessary.
She makes this class much harder than it should be. Lots of extra-curricular work that can be a real pain for busy students. Her tests are made of extremely random pieces of information that dont really teach you much. She seems to have lost track of the point of testing. Rather than testing your understanding of the subject its based on memory.

DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!! She has so so so many assignments. She makes the class so hard and it's not supposed to be like that. The worst thing is, this is a sports class, but she makes it like a communication class. she doesn't know and teaches sport at all.
This professor emailed out to our class about needing three hours of work a DAY. This is a three hour credit WEEK class. She gives too much homework and seems to have forgotten the points of tests and exams. Rather than testing on understanding of material she picks random sentences and phrases she expects you to remember from the material and vids
Dr. Flanagan is an extremely nice professor, who is quick with feedback and understanding of her students. However, her workload that she gives for this class is unnecessary and time-consuming. It was difficult trying to balance this class with my more important and major-specific courses.

Professor Flanagan is the worst professor at FSU. She does not help you at all with any of her assignments or any of her lectures! She makes exams extremely hard for no reason and puts really specific information onto the exam that she barely discussed. She does not want her students to pass and she is terrible! Do not take any class with her!
Lots of reading. Super specific test questions (3 exams on Honorlock/Testing Center). 2 book reviews - not hard. 5 discussion boards - easy. Must watch her lectures and review other materials to have any chance at a decent grade. Relies heavily on beginning literature book, so make sure you read that.
Easy class. Read a book throughout the semester and talk with others in "book club". Discussion boards are easy. Quizzes are specific, but easy to find answers in material. 1 big research paper. No exams. Variety of topics, some with quite a bit of material to review, but not horrible.
I took this class as one of my diversity classes because I just thought it'd be an interesting, low maintenance class. I was so wrong. Don't take this class unless you need it. It was uninteresting, the professor doesn't actually do anything with the class (all TA) and they grade so harshly.

Honestly this course is a waste of time. She is not knowledgable on the sports she teaches about and its completely obvious when listening to lectures or reading presentations. The tests are a joke to where even if you are knowledgeable on the subject you will lose points for not knowing tiny specific worthless information from articles. Sad
Her projects are really easy if you follow the rubric and actually try a little. Tests are specific but not too bad because they do not count as much as normal class exams do. Overall, interesting class but can get boring at times. She is a lot nicer than her previous ratings suggest.
Flanagan is a great professor who noticeably cares about her students. The people rating her low clearly didn't bother trying. Her class was not very high maintenance at all and very easy if you just follow instructions. Just show up, listen to her lectures and have a good attitude and you will get an A.
Dr. Flanagan is one of the most caring sports management professors at Florida State. Her class was a great introduction into sm through the lecture material and coursework. 3 projects, 2 tests make up most of the grade. Tests can have specific info so take good notes (also know your vocab). If you put in the work you'll do well.

Dr. Flanagan is a great professor, both online and in person. Those who don't like her typically just don't like to actually have homework. Her tests can be a bit confusing, but that's about it. Incredible human being and great professor.
Nothing against Dr. Flanagan as a person, but she is not an ideal teacher to have. Her tests are unnecessarily difficult and long for this type of course. I recommend her to anyone in the sports management major, but if not, don't waste your time. Once again, great person, but a mediocre teacher.
if you want easy, do NOT take this. interesting lectures/projects but exams are ridiculous. never got below an 85 on an exam in my life, until her two exams (both a 76), and I studied HOURS for both. copy and pastes sentences from the book and you fill in the words. can only get 7 points off the whole semester if you want an A. dont recommend.
One can tell she loves teaching the class, but the structure of her class makes it much more difficult than it needs to be. There are only a few major assignment which your grade depends on and several quizzes. I would not take this class unless it is a requirement for a sports management major, which is what I did as a finance major.
She is a great person and you can tell she cares a lot about students. That being said, if you are an introvert I recommend you do not take this class. She requires you to wear a name tag and will call on you because she encourages discussion. Attendance is mandatory and she randomly gives pop quizzes based on the readings.
Dr. Flanagan is NOT a bad teacher. Her grading criteria is very clear. This class requires EFFORT and attention to detail. You must DO THE READING - your grade relies heavily on pop quizzes. Missing/Bombing a couple won't kill you, as she tends to drop 2-3. Her projects aren't hard; you're given plenty of time and she'll help you outside of class.
Class is easy if you just keep up. DO THE STUDY GUIDE because it is exactly what she tests on! Weekly quizzes/discussions are simple and the lectures/articles can all be completed in a day. She will sometimes ask for small details on quizzes/tests which can be frustrating. Just take good notes, she sets you up for success with the study guide!
She prepares you for the future. She isn't too difficult like most of these are saying. She gives you information that is actually necessary to know and she cares about her students. She is very responsive and the only interesting professor I have. Best teacher ever.
Overall a great teacher and a great person. She is very knowledgable about the course and is very helpful to students who reach out to her. The tests can be difficult if you do not study for them but if you study you can do very well.
Very engaging, interesting topics you learn about! Just come to class and you should be fine. Katie is also amazing and keeps you excited about the lessons.

Class was very entertaining, always looked forward too it. Dr Flanagan was an amazing professor, and super nice person. There were 3 Exams in the class that if you just payed attention during class, and did the readings you would get a good grade. Would definitely recommend taking this class, and this professor.
I have Dr. Flanagan in two classes currently, and she is amazing. If you pay attention to her lectures, you will learn a lot. In this class, she prepares us all for the future and what career path we want to take. She has experience in the sports world and knows what she is talking about. I would recommend this class.
she is great. instructions are clear, exams are easy if you review from what we learned in class, she is caring, energetic, & I learned a lot in her course. I would 10/10 recommend her to anyone & take her class again. only tough thing is we had to get volunteer hours and do a few tedious assignments, but NOTHING too hard. seriously take her class
Test questions are super specific. Lots of reading and lecture information. If you want ANY chance to pass this class, you have to work super hard and study everything.
Tests questions are super specific and random. You don't learn anything; the class is basically useless, and it's all done by TA's. The lectures were her reading off of powerpoints. The class overall sucks. Don't recommend even though its online.
Dr. Flanagan is one of my absolute favorite professors I have had. As a Sport Management major she is very knowledgeable about the material she teaches. The class is difficult but everything she does is to help foster the love of sport within her students. If you love sports I would recommend because the work will be interesting and not just "busy"
Dr. Flanagan cares a lot about her students and puts a lot of work into making sure her lectures are engaging. She is consistent and is easy to communicate with!
This is the 3rd class I've taken from Dr.Flannagan. She is a tough teacher but knows what she's talking about. The class is engaging and fun. You have 10 attendance quizzes taken randomly throughout the semester, and she drops your lowest 2. As long as you do the assignments and study vocabulary before the exams, you should do well in the class.
Dr. Flanagan was an excellent professor. This was my first class with her, and I plan on taking more. She made the class exciting and always had a positive attitude. She gave very good feedback and I feel I have grown a lot as a student in her class!

Her tests are vocab heavy, but overall, not too difficult if you study. Be ready to collaborate with your classmates in class and during projects.

If you know how to read directions and show up to class, you will get an A. Her projects (there are only 3) total up to about 40% of your grade. There are 2 tests are abt 25% and rest is pop quizzes (two lowest get dropped), and she tells you whats on them. Tests are 20 fill in the blank and 40 T/F, so you will only get a bad grade if you're lazy.
Class is easy, but tests are UNNECESSARILY hard. TA's do all the grading and grade hard.
Took this as an online class and If you pass or fail is up to you. You have to follow along each week to understand and learn. Tests are hard and taken in the testing center. Post study guides that somewhat help. Otherwise all other projects and papers are fairly easy.
Dr. Flanagan's Exploring the World of Sport class was definitely engaging. She's really understanding and though there were a lot of pop quizzes, you know exactly what you need to do to get an A. RMP seems to suggest some possible issues with other courses but I would definitely recommend for IDS, especially if you're interested in joining SPM.
Participation is crucial because there are several pop quizzes throughout the semester. 3 projects which are not too hard but you have to SPEND TIME on them to do well Exams are easy too because you make the questions!
Dr. Flanagan is the best, no other way about it. Anyone can do well in the class, as long as you follow the rubric, READ AND TAKE NOTES from the textbook. Show up to class due to random pop quizzes. Take this class whether you are a sport management major or not.

Dr. Flanagan is passionate and highly interactive—she'll call on you randomly and expects engagement. She truly cares about her students' success and goes out of her way to help. Don't take it if you're not willing to participate. Recommend for all, not just sports management majors. She lowkey grades hard but not unreasonably.

Dr.Flanagan is a fantastic professor and easily approachable. Her class is entertaining and easy to understand. You do have to participate in class, as Dr.Flanagan calls on students at random. The grading is a little tough, but if you read the rubric for each assignment and do what is expected of you, you will be fine in this class.
I took Sport Lit. online and had no issues. If you email Flanagan, she will respond quickly and is helpful. Assignments are graded toughly, but if you look at the rubrics and see what is expected, you will be fine. There are multiple discussion posts and two large essays (for the two books you read). The two books are easy reads, so don't stress.
Her exams are really unfair. She asks the wrong questions and finds very specific, almost irrelevant, things to test on. It's a bit of a heavy workload but it's manageable, you just gotta stay on top of it.
