Very fair teacher, very clear and helpful. Long but relitively easy exams.
Her lecture is very clear. Sometimes, she makes cute tiny mistakes.(ex;feet swell>feet smell) And those are so cute and funny.
A very sweet and smart professor. She makes material clear and helps students to prepare for her exams. I would definitely suggest taking a class from her.
A fair teacher, but the class is boring in and of itself. There are 4 exams (no cumulative final), lots of extra credit opportunities, and a few homework assignments. She hand out VERY helpful study guides before the exams. But don't forget, this class is very very boring.
Delightful teacher, clear with expections. First year here and fun. I look forward to taking more of her classes.
Wow, what a great teacher! Fun, insightful and helpful. Gives a great study guide and is very clear with lectures. Extra credit is available. For a topic that could have been boring, she kept it pretty interesting.
Gerber was a great teacher and plus she is hot so that made me want to go to class. Plus i learned a whole lot on top of that.
Although a very pleasant and enthusiastic professor, Mrs. Gerber faults only by speaking capriciously and grammatically incorrectly. Much of the information that one learns in her class is poorly or inaccurately defined, upon doing research afterwards, and is therefore simple to understand and difficult to memorize.
Not bad. Pretty nice. Slightly vague but not too difficult.
This class was great!! I learned A LOT in this class and there are only 5 homework assignmensts which is nice. There are map quizzes about once a week but they always get pushed around to other days and sometimes she makes mistakes so she gives us free points, which is hella cool. She's also very clear. I LOVED THIS CLASS.
It doesn't seem like she knows what she's talking about. The class is totally boring and really hard to pay attention. She screws up all the time. You never really know what the exams are going to be on and the study guides really suck. Do yourself a favor and do not take this class. I was interested in geography, but not anymore.
I took Geog 4 with Katie as well, and found her to be an extrememly motivated and intelligent woman. She is human, she may make minor grammatical errors, but is an excellent teacher. Her study guides couldn't be more clear. She tells you everything you need to know for the test and is always willing to answer questions. Don't be so hard on her!
The material is boring, alot had to do with atmosphere and weather. Not alot of homework, but there is a quiz or test almost every week. She gives study guides for midterms & finals, but there is so much information on them that it took me 2 days to study it all & I still only got a B in the class. She is somewhat disorganized take notes in pencil.
what a cool person she helped me so much and i learned a lot take her class. I tryed all the other geog 4 teachers and they didn't even come close to her coolness ya!!!!!
Let's just say I took a nap almost every day in this class, and I got an A. Yes the lectures can be boring, but she showed some pretty cool movies and stuff like that. If you can fill out a study guide and read the book, this class is a breeze.
she is a sweetheart and is passionate about her work, but her teaching skills could use improvement. i really wanted to take this class because i thought it would be interesting and informative, but i slept through half the semester. expect 3 major tests, fieldtrips and lots of group work.
Nothing against her personally...she's a cool chick, but she is not cut out for teaching. Very scatter-brained, doesn't keep track of her classes and assignments, requires WAY more work of the students than she puts into it. Terrible preparation for the tests. Goes off on tangents. No structure to lectures. Don't take this class with her.
Don't listen to everyone who gave her a bad review. She is probably my favorite teacher at the JC. It's obvious she has an amazing passion for geography and she's incredibly sweet. The class was VERY easy and VERY ineresting and she prepares you extremely well for the tests. If you can answer the study guide, you ace the class. Simple as that.
Katie is well traveled and well informed. She likes to talk to people in class, and doesn't stick to the sylabus at all. Assignments are cake, so are map quizes. I didn't do any homework and got a B. Some people in the class got really annoyed at the loose structure, don't take her if you like a regimented course.
Katie is genuinely nice and friendly. An A is easy is you don't mind memorizing a few things. Weak on basic facts: confuses meters and km, C and Cl atoms, atoms and molecules. I think she knows it but gets confused in front of the class. But, for all that, 3 easy credits and you learn quite a lot. I enjoyed the class and like Katie.
Highly intelligent, uses the entire class period for lecture, sometimes a class exercise. Lots of info, you don't want to miss class. Gives great, detailed study guides so you know what concepts will be on the test. Not easy, but read text + take notes in class & you'll be fine. She is nice & accessible outside of class for help too.
Totally loved her! The class is easy because she really wants you to learn, and she cares about the info. Really sweet, always ready to help, loves questions, loves her students.
I love this woman, but not as a teacher. She is super sweet, hella cool, and a total pushover, which is all right...but I had serious issues being able to pay attention to her in class. Plus, she'd even forget what she was talking about and then go on to some other random subject.
She's a great teacher. She is very nice, polite and easy going. Lectures are interesting, and besides reading the textbook, she doesn't give out much homework which is nice. I recommend her.
Katie will make you want to travel. Her positives are that her tests are Extremely easy. I Got a 102% on a test. It makes it nice if your other classes are hard. Four easy online map quizzes. You also learn quite a bit about the world. She also lets you submit HW electronically. A Negative is that she isn't fluid when she speaks. Too many uh's.
I had Ms. Gerber for Enviro science and she is an awesome teacher. Probably one of my favorites. She has a great passion for what she teaches, and she is always willing to help. Tests are pretty simple, and you can do extra credit. Talk to her, let her know who you are and that your interested in the class.
Katie is a fun teacher, but she can be vague about some of the material she puts on her study guides. If you are really interested in science maybe take this class with another teacher. Her topics tend to overlap and sometimes the class doesn't progress enough. If you are only taking this class for GE, she is great.
Covers material pretty well. 2% extra credit available for every test, 2% added to overall grade for perfect attendance and another 5% extra credit on total grade for various assignments. Very helpful so if you are willing to do the work you will do well.
She makes the material interesting and provides ample extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester - I think totaling around 15% of the grade. The tests are easy if you do the work, and it's really not that much work comparatively. Good memorization skills helps dramatically in this course, with three map quizzes w/ the lowest score droppe
Katie is very sweet. She can be a little absent minded but she'll work with students to help them succeed if you show an interest in the subject. There's opportunity for extra credit. The tests are worded a little confusing. You have to get to know her style. I took her for 2 semesters.
I actually really like this class. She assigns a fair amount of homework, and her tests are generously graded. Attend the class, do the homework, and study for the test with her study guide, and you'll do fine.
Prof. Gerber is a fun, helpful, and brilliant teacher. She knows her material, works hard to help out the students, and orients homework and quizzes to very clearly help you study for the exams. The exams aren't easy, but definitely possible to get A's on if you do the homework, study a bit, and actually bother trying. She's an amazing teacher.
Gerber is nice enough and she likes teaching Geography. The course touches on everything from plate tectonics, atmospheric conditions, bla bla bla. . . Its way too much info to be found useful for regular life. If your looking for an easy class, this IS NOT an easy class. Sounds like it would be easy, but its really tough. Not too much homework.
Great teacher, good lectures. Very fair. If you do your homework and understand her chapter review/worksheets, you get a good grade.Would take another class from her in a heartbeat.
She's very approachable and likeable, really willing to help. Her quizzes are pretty easy if you glance over the study guide. The Exams are hard but fair, if you study you can do well. Not too much homework, but easy when its assigned. Alot of available Extra Credit at end of semester, also, she drops an exam and quiz. You can pass with some effort
This class is a turd. Parts of the coursework are interesting, but its way too much information to ever retain or be useful. Katie tries to be fair, but its a difficult course overall. Lots of quizes and tests, and I hated the class from start to finish. I'm just glad its over and I passed.
Katie is a fair teacher. She doesn't assign too much homework and if you study and go to class you will do just fine. The study guides our outdated and there is way too much information on them, and for that matter, in the class. She is very available and interested in her students doing well. She can forget what she's saying or writing quite a bit
Katie is an incredibly reasonable professor, very personable and really seems to care about her students. The class is informative and not too difficult, but definitely not a class you don't have to put any effort into. She provides a solid base for future study of environmental topics without portraying the world as hopelessly lost.
Pretty easy class, nice lady. Well prepared for her lectures. Tests are a little harder than I expected for such an easy class, but homework is quick and extra credit is easy. You can provably get Bs/Cs on the tests and get an A with 2 quick extra credits.
This class is awesome and Katie is a great teacher. She really knows what she's talking about and if there's something she doesn't know, she admits it! A very interesting and informative class. Recommend to everyone!
Katie is excellent. She knows what she is talking about, and when she doesn?t she admits it. Tests are easy if you use the provided study guides. Many field trips which are fun. One big paper which is on a topic of your choice. Some homework but it?s all interesting and all relevant to the class. If you need that last science class, go with her!
Gerber is nice and helpful. 3 exams, a 7-pg paper, eye-opening homework assignments, and 2 field trip reports. Read the textbook only before tests and I still got an A. Lectures/material were a bit boring, but there were still enough interesting points to make me think that almost everyone should take this class. I learned a lot.
Katie is a sweet teacher. She teahes an easy class, and she makes it easy for students. She can get behind with grading and hand assingnments back late. This has good and bad sides to it. She postponed a 10 week research paper 2 weeks past it was due, which I'm thankful for. Overall, great teacher.
Katie is a sweetheart. She's very knowledgeable about her field and is happy to sit down and talk with you. She's a great teacher and it's a VERY interesting class.
She is a very nice and helpful person. I found the info boring, but I still liked the class because of her. The class is easy as long as you pay attention in class. There are 4 tests, some quizzes, and some hw. She gives a lot of extra credit and drops low scores, so it's ok if you mess up on a test
Gerber k is the best science professor I ever have. She incorporates great field trips and research to stimulate learning. This class is very educational and has changed my total perspective in viewing environmental resources. She is the most dedicate professor in SRJC
Gerber k is the best science professor I ever have. She incorporates great field trips and research to stimulate learning. This class is very educational and has changed my total perspective in viewing environmental resources. She is the most dedicate professor in SRJC
Ughh worst mistake ever taking this class. I recommend if you want to complete your GE for physical science take astronomy! I barley passed this class with a C! even though i studied the study guide for hours -___-
She is definitely a very pleasant and entertaining person and her classes are easy, but I still learned a lot. Text books are not necessary unless maybe you have a hard time with the subject matter. Drops a test and homework which is nice. She does misspeak fairly often which can be annoying, but no big deal.
Katie drops on test per semester, and if you are struggling, she is always available and very approachable. I enjoyed her class. Show up on time and ask questions if you don't understand. I definitely recommend her.
All power point lectures for the most part. Not a real interesting subject for me personally but she made it relevant and the work load is very manageable. I recommend her over any other Geography instructors.
Physical Geography was an interesting and pretty easy class. Katie offers extra credit, and the lowest test score is dropped. The tests are easy-If you do the homework and study. Every test has a study guide. She's friendly too.
Gerber is a pretty cool teacher. She knows her stuff and enjoys the material. you have to attend field trips, but there are several options (including online) that you can take. I met with her in her office and she was very helpful.
Geography is a very cool subject. She is always available during office hours. Her tests are clear to the point, fair, and willing to let her students have a second chance. Study Guides are more helpful than anything. Lectures can be dry, but if you want to pass, I suggest you don't miss class time. If interested, take her class!
Amazing teacher hands down. Very clear and willing to talk to you about anything. The tests are easy and she gives you chances to make up points on questions that a lot of people got wrong. She even put time aside just for me to redo different questions than the rest of the class as I'd gotten all the ones we corrected right originally. So nice!
Katie is great. She's very helpful and nice. Pay attention and take notes in class, read the text and you should do good. Weekly reading, occasional hw, 4 tests (including Final- Final is not cumulative) mostly fill in the blankmultiple choice. Would take her again.
She is a great teacher and really works with the students if they get bad grades on the exams. I failed the first one but passed all the others with Bs after talking to her, she is there to help. talks a little fast but class goes by fast in this class because geology is interesting, she makes it interesting. Tons of extra credit
I had Katie for two other classes. She is that fun! She wants to make class interesting, and always seeks new materialseminars to show students. She does get behind in her work a lot, but makes up for it by giving students more time to complete assignments and A LOT options of extra credit. I recommend taking her class :)
Katie Gerber is personable and enthusiastic. It is obvious she really enjoys what she teaches, and that goes a long way being a student of hers. I also took her Environmental Science class and felt like I gained a healthy amount of knowledge.
I actually look forward to class with her. Very interesting content that she knows very well and doesn't rely on reading off a book or powerpoint slide. I would take a class with her again.
If you have the option, don't hesitate, pick Katie as your teacher. Katie loves then environment and you can tell during her lectures. She is always happy and excited about the material. Very approachable and is there if you need her help with something. learned so much during her class.
Great teacher, knows SO much about environmental science and the other varying sciences involved. She requires several field trips.
The most passionate teacher I've had at the SRJC. I loved her class, and everything she would talk about. Towards the end of the semester she donated several pencil eraser connectors to a classmate that was looking for a less wasteful use of short pencils. Bought it out of her own money. I am extremely aware of my impact on the environment. Love he
She always seems a little bit rushed, but she's a great teacher and her class is really enjoyable. She keeps it light. Do your HW, study the power points and show up to class. Easy.
This teacher was really nice! I enjoyed the class, had fun on the field trips, & I learned a lot! During the end of the semester I got really sick and wasn't able to come to class on the day of the final, she was flexible and found a way for me to take the final. She seems to really care about students, she also replies to emails and offers Extra C
Katie Gerber is an AMAZING teacher. I really recommend to take her class, she know her subject very well. She cares about students and she is super flexible but don't take advantage she is only flexible is she knows you care about the class and you're trying your best to pass. Go to class, be on time, take notes & study for the test. You'll be fine
Professor Gerber is awesome! Even though geography is hard, she knows that it doesn't come naturally to everyone. She is so understanding and makes a hard topic easier to understand. I attended almost every class and was excited to go, which isn't usual for a science class (for me, anyways). Take her classes anytime you can!
I learned so much in Katie's class. The key to passing is really keeping up on reading and staying engaged in her lectures - which can feel a little all over the place sometimes. She gives very thorough study guides for the tests, but usually the test consists of subjects talked about in class. I would take her again!
Katie is very kind, cares about her students and the class has a community feeling. Easy A if you do what is assigned, show up to class and study for her tests with the study guides. My biggest piece of advice is to answer every question on the study guide as they are posted by chapter on canvas. Her lectures were boring at times but manageable.
Loved her! Environmental science, she's super passionate about the topic and well informed. Gets off topic easily so you have to read the textbook or go over her powerpoint but they are made accessible. Really thorough study guide and allows a cheat sheet! But the tests are still very hard. Not a cumulative final.
Katie was nice and very understanding. Class is graded on map quizzes, 4 tests, 4 homework options and a project split into 4. The project was actually very fun and I found myself enjoying the work for it. However, the biggest flaw were the lectures, which could get quite boring and repetitive. With all that I'd take her again, very relaxed class.
I had read some bad reviews of Katie's classes, and I was very surprised at how great she was! She is clear in what she expects, is very reasonable, and she isn't about a lot of tests or memorization. She really enjoys her subject and teaching, and is open to going on tangents and learning more with the class.
Katie is one of my favorite professors Ive ever had. She was extremely flexible during the fires which was very helpful. She is also super approachable and friendly, so dont be shy to ask questions! Her tests were kind of hard so definitely study but she allowed us to use notes. I learned a lot from her class. I recommend taking her when you can.
Katie is a good teacher, but a lot of class time feels wasted on pointless lectures or random spin offs. That being said the tests and homework were easy and clear. Make sure to ask her if index cards are allowed on the tests, she will only let them be used if the class asks if they are allowed. 2 field trips required outside of class
Worst instructor I have had. Shows up to class unprepared and gives long lectures about things that wont be on the exams, which are 60 percent of your grade. Class consists of PowerPoint lectures and that is all. Frequently asks students what due dates are, what she went over the last class period, etc. Highly recommend avoiding this class.
Katie's a fabulous teacher. She has passion for teaching; I had her for an evening class and her enthusiasm kept me up. I also really like her clear grading criteria and opportunity for extra credit. She's also extremely knowledgeable without being showy. I highly recommend her.
While Gerber is a fun loving, and nice person, she does not teach you what's on the exams. She clearly states on her study guide that she includes topics found in the book that she has not taught in lecture, to cover her... Ok, but the majority of questions are subjects she has NOT taught. Prepare to teach yourself everything the week of the exam!
book mandatory short interesting chapters class was beyond inspirational so knowledgable Amazing lectures. 4 tests based on 4 chapters each kinda hard but gives a study guide with ?s you find awnsers allows 1/2 sheet notes if you need accomidation when asked befor 1st test May forget to grade or upload modual but human just remind her No regrets
Lecture doesnt pertain much to exams, so get ready to read lots. Knowledgeable on environmental science, but goes off topic a lot.
I love this class! I took this class as a highschool student and it was so easy. I didn't get a super good grade though, that was only because I did none of the homework and failed two test because I did not study. I was just being lazy. Do the homework, and the study guides( she basically gives you the answers ) youll get an A in the class.
Enjoyed this class. She gives very thorough study guides that actually cover the material on the exams. As long as you read the textbook chapters and answer the study guides you'll be well prepared. Some people are complaining that she doesn't go over exam material, but that's not really true. Her slides are helpful and she responds quickly to msg
She gave really good lectures and thats all we did in class. Occasional group conversations but Mott hat many. She gave really clear study guides of exactly what would be on the test and allows half a page of notes for the exams. The homework wasnt too bad, only a handful of assignments which were all pretty easy.
You can tell the subject is close to her heart, and she really tries to make the content engaging and not overly complicated. While her lectures could be slow at times, the information she taught well prepared you for the tests; which she allows a half-page of notes for. Field trips are meant to be manageable and fun too! Great class!
this was the worst class I ever took, the teacher doesn't grade things on time and gives random assignments. But your waiting basically till the end of the semester for what your grade is in the class. She is caring toward her students but for me personally was pretty hard to understand her lectures and her homework assignments.
Lovely women and subject is very interesting, wish she taught more related subjects.
Katie is one of my favorite professors so far! She is so passionate about the environment, which is very admirable. VERY clear study guides of nearly everything that's gonna be on the test, you just have to take time to prepare for it. She is willing to talk to you outside of class about any questions or interesting things! Highly recommend.
She is very passionate and knowledgeable about her subjects. I appreciate her encouraging students to come to office hours. However, if this is super foreign subject to you I suggest you take another prof. who might be a bit more understanding. Study guides are PACKED with a lot more than what I saw on the tests. Difficult to study.
Pros: she will help you out to get a good grade. Cons: lecture heavy, learn most of the material on your own, major procrastinator.
Shes okay. Shes passionate about geography but theres a lot of assignments to complete and the material isnt that interesting. Make sure to take notes or else youll end up missing stuff on quizzes. I had to use google on many occasions as some of the material on these quizzes were not mentioned in the online lectures. I wouldnt do her again.
Worst teacher Ive taken; behind on grading, LECTURE NOTES ARE NOT ON QUIZZES SO HAVE GOOGLE ON STANDBY, when she does get around to grading its too critical and harsh. For Christ sake covid isnt any easier on the students either. I dont recommend her to anyone. My other profs have more students and get their grades in on time & grade fairer.
Katie is wonderful. Shes caring & compassionate. I do think she lacks a bit in teaching. A lot of the things on the exams she never teaches in class so make sure you rely on the book for that. She does get a bit behind on grading but its not something I personally mind.
Asynchronous classes can be difficult, but Katie Gerber made this class very straightforward and easy to navigate. There was quite a bit of work to do, but the way Canvas was set up for this class made staying on task very simple. I would absolutely take another class with her again.
Professor Gerber is super reliable and involved in the course. She's always posting detailed updates which is great for our online circumstances. The assignments are diverse and engaging. No pressure assignments too: quizzes are retake-able, no required word count on disc posts... Overall a fun and inspiring class w Prof Gerber :)
Class I took was worth only one unit and was way too much work for only one unit. I didn't like that there was no module schedule for the class and assignments were posted a few days before they were due. Warning, she's a tough grader and instructions on assignments aren't very clear. Best thing was that there was no textbook and no tests!
Wonderful woman, I loved the class, loved the textbook, and loved the in-class discussions. The final paper and field trip were fun too. Only issues were she seemed unprepared a lot and took forever to grade things. Would forget things, and didn't seem very comfortable with SRJC's online portal (canvas). It's 50/50 if any teacher can use it though.
Online class was thoughtfully constructed. Professor Gerber is clear about what you need to know, and all tests answers can be easily found in the lectures. Tests account for the majority of your grade, but she drops the lowest test score. As long as you listen to the lectures and read, you will get an A.
I enjoyed her class. She doesn't want to spend the whole class time lecturing so there is time for questions about the weekly content. She knows a lot about our environment and how we can help lower our personal impacts on the World, environment. If you do all the necessary work, there is no reason you can't excel. She does offer extra credit, too.
The homework is super manageable but she does make you stay pretty active with he textbook. If you take her class I recommend attending them and just reading the case studies in the textbook. No group projects, she gives time to talk to people to class which is really appreciated and also has a very friendly environment
Katie comfortably conveys environmental context to students. My only complaint with her class is that the material, although extensively covered, is quite disorganized. If you have taken any STEM courses at the JC, this class is quite simple. She's a great professional resource. P.S., this is basically a weather class.
She is very nice, but a bit flaky and unorganized. Papers and projects took weeks if not months to get graded so it was difficult to judge how well you're doing. Lots of videos and reading and not very present in the class. One or two lectures in the beginning, and then MIA after that. It felt like the online class was a burden on her work load.
WOW. This is what a college teacher should be like. I took fully Async class, it was far better than many in-person classes I have taken. She's clearly prepared, cares, knows her material and that makes learning from her so easy. Very interactive, lot's of extra info, clear, in-depth recorded lectures. A lot of homework, don't fall behind. 10 stars
Be ready to have a lot of homework, she is really prepared to teach and she enjoys teaching, she reviews every single one of your answers
Professor Gerber is passionate about the environment and makes learning engaging. The course has a lot of reading, but study tools like Unstuck ai can help you stay on top of it. Attendance is a must, but the friendly environment makes it worthwhile.
Passionate about her studies and engaging lectures—highly recommended!
This was my second semester with her and I truly enjoyed my classes with her. She is a VERY nice person and very supportive. Be prepared to do new assignments EVERY class with her, she'll give you a lot of extra credit (take advantage of them) but she's a tough grader. She is very passionate about the topics.
Professor Gerber was very kind and understanding: I had to miss two days of class yet she still gave me participation points because I did the homework. She provides a number of resources such as articles, videos, and notes for the slides she uses in her lectures. Although she does grade quite harshly the work for the class is not too difficult.
Professor Gerber is a nice person, but her class was difficult. She often got confused in what she was teaching and would have students google for her. Exams had things that were not taught in class because she'd run out of class time before she'd finished teaching the content. Lectures were often hard to follow.
