Katie was difficult to figure out exactly what she wanted from the class at first but she is very open and works hard to help you succeed. Make sure you keep up with the reading for each class and you should do fine. Read and receive an A, her classes are basically an open discussion and anything you say will get you points toward participation
This is a VERY intense class and participation is a MUST. She gets mad if she find out you haven't done your readings from the book. There's a huge group project you have to work on during the semester. She give 3 essay exams which can be easy if you understand the book. Make sure you read and participate everyday in class.
Is the class "easy"? Depends on what you call easy. She really does care and want to see you succeed. If you want a class where you are spoon fed the notes and just regurgitate the answers, then this is not the class for you. But if you want a class where you actually think and learn something, then you have found the right professor.
Katie says that you are able to be exempted from the final exam if you have B or higher and participate regularly. I did both. She said that my participation was not meaningful. I do not know anyone who was able to be exempted. She is obsessive and unclear on what she actually wants. By not being clear, you do not know what to give her. run!!!
Katie was the best VCU professor i've had. She really cares about her students and wants you to do well. That said you HAVE to talk during class, participation is a huge part of your grade so read the text and contribute. If you do not participate it will SEVERELY effect your grade. The class fun and comfortable. Prepares you for real world
Katie was the best professor I had a VCU. She challenged us to think about what we were learning and not just memorize. She also brought in guest speakers who were working in the marketing field. The best part of taking her class though was her willingness to work with me outside of class. She even helped me land my first job. She rocks.
Usually in large classes I feel as though the professor has no idea who I am. Gilstrap made an effort to know who everyone in her class is. She is tough and if you don't care your grade will reflect that but if you try you will learn a lot and do well.
Real world experience. Real life examples. Guest speakers. She was really interested in us actually learning the material and using it to stand out in an interview or on the job. Wish more teachers cared so much.
She's really clear on her expectations and explains things well, but good lord this class is A LOT of work. There are certain things that are due weekly (Monday is always a quiz and discussion, Wednesday is a discussion and a question, and Friday is a group case study). On top of this there's more. Somehow she also grades on "professionalism"
Katie was awesome! She makes you work for your grade (participate in class, group case work, etc). I definitely came out her class knowing and understanding the material. Make sure you read all the chapters because if you do not act like you did in class she will not be happy. If you need help she is always willing to meet with you!
She is definitely a good teacher and loves what she teaches, but her personality is kinda aggressive. If you do not attend class, she will be really harsh with you and you won't do so well. If you come to class late or interrupt, world war 3 haha but other than that the class is interesting and she teaches very well!
Overall class was basically a breeze. As long as you study for the exams (not the night before), complete all blackboard assignments, and participate in group assignments you will pass. Pretty boring lectures, but class is an easy pass. Sometimes a little unclear of what she wants, but nobody's perfect.
Loved her. She makes you work for it, but her lectures are good and she connects things to the real world. She is very available outside of class and genuinely wants you to be successful. Best teacher I had at VCU.
First exam was honestly insulting, 45 mins! on material not covered. Reading is articles that TOUCH on the subject that we are covering in a week. They have so much information and not even mentioned in class. She seems stubborn, Expecting to know detailed info on material not covered is impossible + no one learning from mikes bikes. AWFUL.
If you read the book & take notes in class (she tests mostly from her lectures; which she writes the info you'll need on the board), then you'll pass the exams easy. Homework assignments due every Fridays, but you also don't have classes on Fridays, so that's always awesome. Strict about attendance and coming on time.
She is awesome. So many classes are straight off of a powerpoint. She actually adds her perspective and experience and brings her network into the classroom. You have to study, but you will actually learn something. I will definitely take her again.
She's a fair grader, and very helpful when you go to her office hours. Exams aren't too bad but it covers a lot, and don't have many questions which makes it more difficult. The final was basically the first two exams together, so it was pretty easy.
She was a better option than Ficket and definetly more interesting that you actually lay attention in the class however the amount if work in this class is alittle unecessary cause at the end of the course all that you did is worth a small percentage. Other than that she's a great teacher and no class on Fridays!
Professor Gilstrap is one of the few professors at VCU that genuinely care for the success of the students. Although class has LOTS of reading and assignments in BUSN 201, it really helps you in your other classes and real world. BUSN 202 was much more group effort, which could be good or bad. If your group sucks like mine, get ready for hell.
Best teacher I at VCU. Genuinely cares. Expects a lot, but is a good teacher and will make sure you get it. Will take her again.
Would strongly not recommend her; maybe for her BUS classes but not MKTG. Too big of a class and does not well prepare you for her tests. Average Test Score in her class was 72, with a 10 point curve. After the first exam many students tried to attend tutoring, which is full and I can not enroll.
She expects a lot, but you will learn a lot. One of the best teachers I have had at VCU.
She's great. She actually focuses on us learning the material rather than reading straight off power points. She is super available and even holds study sessions to make sure students are prepared. That being said, she is tough. I have to study a lot, but I will take her again.
She is great. Tough but great. You will work hard, but you will actually learn something. Nice change at VCU.
Love her. She has real experience and makes time for students. Will definitely take her again.
Really liked her as a teacher but makes tests harder than they should be. She will tell you what to study but you have to ask specific questions. gives some extra credit. attendance required. clear on deadlines. would take her again. you NEED the book to get a good grade on the tests.
Very good teacher, probably one of the best I have had at VCU. The tests are kind of tricky though but if you study it is fairly easy to get a low A or high B. Really just pay attention in class and read the book for any more clarity you need and you'll be fine.
She rocks. Will try to take every class she teaches.
Katie is one of the best professors I have had at VCU. She was helpful, available, and totally adorable. She took a loooooong night class and made it concise and easy to apply to the real world. Her tests were tough but if you really know the material- not memorize it- you will be find. Do take her class!
She is the best. Smart. Funny. Beautiful. Take her.
I think she is great. She brings in speakers and adds her perspective to the material. I am taking her again this summer.
Please please please do not take this class. Gilstrap is a nice lady and cares about her students, but rarely actually goes over course material. She talks more about her own personal experience than what you will be tested on. Nice lady but a really poor professor. I was able to make it through this class but I had to teach myself everything.
Nice professor who cares about her students. Nice change at VCU. She will make you study, but you will learn a ton.
I have never had a teacher who was as supportive and available. She is tough and she expects a lot. But she will make sure you have what you need to do well. Study, read and ask questions. Put the time in and you will actually learn something.
She was a really great teacher, she was very knowledgeable. The class involves a lot of reading but if you put in the effort you will pass. She will also help you if you go to her office.
LOTS of material. Can be hard to manage when you're only in class once a week for 2 hrs & 40 min. The code w/tbook isn't required but using the practice quizzes saved my grade! Attendance is mandatory & monitored by clicker. If you're over 5 minutes late, you're absent. She's happy to help, but you have to ask specific questions & use office hours.
Katie is extremely knowledgable in her field and an enthusiastic teacher, making what could be a boring topic to some, engaging during class time. With that said, as a non-marketing major, I would not take a class taught by Katie again. Her tests were extremely difficult, demanding, and ill-worded. It's truly a wonder I passed.
She is not easy, but she is awesome. I learned a lot, which was nice. Most teachers don't actually teach. They just read off the powerpoints. Best TEACHER at VCU.
i thought marketing would be a joke class but i learned so much. she is funny and really nice and if you need help she will make sure you get it. if i was staying in marketing i would take every class she teaches.
Great professor. Makes concepts very clear. There are sometimes differences between lecture and textbook material, but you need to study both to pass. Exams are easy if you read the book and pay attention during lecture. Gives online assignments and takes attendance with clicker.
Rude professor, tough tests, and not very many materials to help you outside of powerpoints. the class could have been improved if we had some assignments or homework- I would've grasped the information much better that way. This class shouldn't be so test-based- if you're really going to learn marketing you should put together a campaign.
As long as you go to class and take good notes you'll get a B. If you want an A you'll have to read the book as well.
She was great. I loved that she connected the material to the real world. She is really nice, funny and willing to meet with you. I am taking her again this summer.
LOVE HER. I learned so much. She is not the easiest, but she is really knowledgeable and makes sure that you actually get something out of the class. I am taking both of her summer sections.
This was my first marketing class and I am so glad I took Professor Gilstrap. She is extremely dedicated and is very knowledgeable about the world of marketing. You have to attend class to write down notes (majority of her exam questions are based on them.) Her classes were entertaining and I would recommend her to other students at VCU!
Very clear of what she was expecting from students from the first day of class. She's very successful. LISTEN TO HER! Her advice really helps. Her lectures are interesting and stuck to me. She does not like people walking out during lecture or being on electonics. Overall like 5 tests and 3 online open book quizzes. Tests are multiple choice
Solid teacher. Overall is a really caring and good teacher. She has videos and guest speakers to enhance the learning topics. And a lot of her exam questions come from her in-class notes. Coming to class is a must!!!
This teacher has experience in the Marketing Field and apparently knows what she is doing. She does not rely on the book nor powerpoints from class, she expects you to read outside of class and uses time in class for real issues she wants you to understand. Great teacher, and knowledgeable in the field.
Professor Gilstrap is a really warm and approachable woman. She definitely comes off knowledgable which at times is hard because the students are not as knowledgable about Marketing as she is. The textbook is required WITH access. You don't need the physical book, but you must have the access + LearningCatalytics which together, at minimum is $99
She is exactly what you want in a class like this. She is interesting, entertaining, and very clear about what she wants. Go to class and do the assignments, you will get an A.
Katie is one of my favorite professors at VCU. She cares about her students and wants them to be prepared for the business world. She owns her own businesses. The class consists of 3 tests, 4 online assignments, and a final. She does take attendance but it is used as a +/- rounding tool. But go to lectures! They're entertaining
Professor Gistrap is amazing. She makes marketing very interesting. You will need to attend class to get the material.
I would have received an A in the class but one of the assigned simulations glitched and she wasn't helpful and told me the grade would stay even though the software malfunctioned. She is condescending and not very understanding. She also doesn't put in extra credit until basically the end so it is hard to tell how many points you got.
She is awesome. She makes the topics interesting and I learned a lot. But exams are tough. their are homework assignments help if you are a bad test taker. I will take her again.
She is great! Interesting and available outside of class. There is a lot of material, but the speakers are good and she doesn't just read off PowerPoints. I am taking her class in the spring.
Attendance is mandatory. Her lectures and the guest speaker presentations are what you are tested on. The final exam is cumulative, which we all hated. She is super nice, though, and knows her stuff. Overall, I worked for the B I received in the class but would take her again.
Katie Gilstrap is nice, but I don't think she did an adequate job teaching marketing. She assigns heavy readings from the textbook every night but barely puts the info on tests. She purposely makes tests difficult and application only, which she'll openly tell you. I honestly didn't find her to be very helpful especially not in marketing math.
Shes tough but a good teacher. Interesting speakers and doesn't rely on poerpoints. She knows what she is talking about and will help you if you go to her office.
Gilstrap structures her lectures perfectly for taking notes. Her tests are straight from her lectures. As long as you take good notes from the lectures then you have all you need to study for the test.
She is a tough grader and doesn't really apply material from the textbook to the exams. Her lectures mostly what the exams are composed of and are not very direct. If you have any problems with the online assignments she is not very understanding, and is almost degrading in the way that she speaks to you.
Good professor. Pay attention to the lectures and you'll be fine. Simple and straightforward.
Learned so much. Not the easiest but knows a lot and is super helpful if you ask questions or go to her office.
Great lectures. tough exms. Good teacher.
She is great. You actually learn something. She is very accessible after class too. I am taking her summer class in june.
There was a case study on wineries. We spent an entire week talking about WINE. Can it get any better?! Fair, caring and knowledgeable with a dry sense of humor. My kinda gal. She's the best.
Professor Gilstrap is awesome. She really helps you learn Marketing, but tends to go extremely fast during some lectures. If you read the book, study, and do assignments you won't have a problem in this class.
Professor Gilstrap is an awesome professor. She is very accessible despite teaching hundreds of students. I would definitely recommend reviewing exams with her. Her exams are a little tough, but if you study her notes and ask questions you will be fine. Overall, absolutely loved her and she has real world experience to share.
There is 3 tests and a final. Her tests are not easy for an entry level marketing class. Tests are application based but there are few examples to study that resemble test questions. I read the chapters before the test and did not bother taking notes in class, lectures are ok for getting a basic understanding. A/B on her tests won't be easy.
You will work hard, but you will learn. She also brings in speakers who have internships. Taking her classes this summer.
MKTG 301 was my first mktg class, it basically determined if this will be my major. Katie Gilstrap sealed the deal for me. She was very knowledgeable about the content which translated through her lecture. We also got 2 great guest lectures. It's a college level course, so expect it to be. Do the reading in advance and take good notes in class.
Professor Gilstrap is a solid choice for a professor. The textbook is extremely helpful, most tests are at least 6 chapters, which made it hard to know how to study. It is best to go through the daily announcements because that is what the tests are stemmed from. She gives generous extra credit and will help you outside of class via appt or email
I really enjoyed this class, problem is exams are heavy worded. Her exams are based more on Application of the material than memorization of concept definitions. Making a good study guide with lots of exams will help you a lot! Also she talks super fast so typing your notes would be best. 3 exams and final, online homework, gives some extra credit!
She was awesome! Loved that she made it real world. exams were tough but if you study and take notes you will be fine.
Tough but learned a lot. Three exams and a cumulative final, great speakers and easy homework. Would recommend.
I was on the fence about my major, but Katie Gilstrap made the decision easy. I got a lot out of the class and am planning to take both her summer classes. There are no poerpoints though, so you have to go to class and take good notes.
GO TO HER OFFICE. She will make sure you understsnd anything you need to know. She will also make time to meet with you even if it is outside of her office hours.
Take her class. You will learn a lot.
Exams are tough. cumulative final. But really good lectures and great structure to class. Knows her stuff and has experience and contacts to share.
Good teacher & awesome lady overall. The class can be tough; you gotta go every week, take detailed notes (type-she talks fast), and understand mktg concepts at the applied level for tests. Attendance is used as extra credit, but if you don't go, you don't have nearly as good of a chance of passing. Make an appt w her and she will help you!
Tough class, but learned a lot. You definitely have to put in some work to do well in this course. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should attend because the book doesn't cover every thing that she goes over in lecture.
Great teacher and great lady. Lectures and summaries are what you need to do well on the exams. Go to class and go to her office and you will do really good.
Great teacher. Loved her lectures and the speakers who spoke. Got o class and to office hours if you have questions. The tests are hard but you will learn a lot.
This teacher really taught things easily than the textbook. She lets you come into office hours so you can get clarity. Her tests are mostly vocab, but with applied. The applied can be difficult, but the vocab is memorization. I did not understand that till later on. If you realize this, you can get yourself a B or A, otherwise B-C.
Gilstrap is a role model for many in the business school. She is clearly competent but definitely wont let you "slide" through the class. This is not an "easy" class, but you will get what you put into it.
The worst professor I had. Although she can give inspirational facts from her own career and is friendly, she grades too hard. It is difficult to get an A unless you are very smart. It is the type of class you can get a C easily. I barely did by mostly gettings Ds on exams. She grades on participation. Her tests are difficult and she is harsh!
Loved this class. She had really great guest speakers and a project based on helping me get the job I want. Real world experience too. I am taking her again in the fall.
Appreciated that she had real world experience and wanted to help us apply what we learned to help us. Super nice and available. Best teacher I have had at VCU
Great class. Nice teacher who actually wants to help you. Brings in speakers. Three exams and a project.
nice with real experience. tough tests but you learn.
Gilstrap is an okay teacher. She could put a little bit of more effort into her lectures. She does not do slides so she just speaks to the class and sometimes it is hard for people to catch up. Her tests are pretty hard, and she put tons of chapters onto one test expecting you to memorize all of the chapters. I would take someone else if I were you
She is a good teacher that makes concepts clear. she has experience and brings guests.
she actually teaches. posts grades quickly. connects you with professional contacts. great experience
Professor Gilstrap is a great teacher. People just think the class is "super hard" because she actually teaches, and she expects people to learn and actually work for an A/B instead of being handed one! If you do the homework, read the book, go to class and study you will be fine! She is also willing to work with you outside of class.
You can see the outward manifestation of her passion towards teaching like an erupting volcano. I liked how she doesn't just go over boring slides and actually teaches. Yes, my friend, she actually teaches. Which is hard to find these days. As good as she is I wouldn't recommend her if your major is not marketing and something not challenging
I wouldn't recommend this professor to someone outside of the marketing major. The terms discussed in class are difficult and she expects you to know everything. Each test is very difficult especially the one covering over 7 chapters... She's a very nice person but the way this class is taught needs to be addressed.
She actually teaches. if you want to learn something, take it.
don't get me wrong. this class is not easy. but she is a good teacher and is willing to help you outside of class definitely recommend if you want to go into marketing
Katie Gilstrap is the reason I'm a marketing major. She's passionate about the subject and actually cares if her student's pass or not. She's an absolute gem.
Gilstrap is probably one of the best professors at VCU! Her lectures are amazing but marketing is not an easy class to get ready to work. The test is based off of 3 test, three online modules, and a cummalitve final that is worth 30% of your grade! If you attend class and take detailed notes you will do great!
Had Gilstrap for 310 and 301 a few years ago. Her lecture style is probably not what you are used to- they are a SUPPLEMENT to the text book, not a substitute. If you don't read, you won't do well. Her tests are difficult but not tricky. If you have a "marketing mind" you should do fine but if you are not a mktg major it may be more difficult
She really knows her stuff and actually talks to the class in an almost conversational way. I never studied with the textbook, and just wrote everything she said down. If you take good notes, you will get an A or a B in the class. She also has awesome guest speakers. Take her if you get the chance regardless of your major.
Lots of guest speakers, some of them were cool. But professor is great just make sure to read before class. Skip class and you wont pass. Exams are tough but again as long as you participate and do everything youre supposed to then itll be easy
Definitely a great class. I recommend taking her if you're willing to put in the effort. Great guest speakers, lecture is great. It's alot of chapters condensed into her exams but if you read beforehand, take good notes in class and read her recap you'll be fine. My friends even noticed how much marketing information I retained in a few months.
She gives a lot of exams that are worth very little and then a final that is worth the first three exam combined. She does not offer power points to help you take notes or study. If you miss class you will not get the notes. She seems to only sit at the front of the class and just talk and expects you to write everything down. Do not recommend her!
Definitely recommend her she has real work experience and provides recaps after every class. I actually learned something which is a change at VCU also lots of extra credit!
Love this teacher. She cares about her class doing well. Her exams are not easy but if you come to class and read you will do fine also very willing to meet with you if you need help.
Best professor at VCU.
This class you will learn a lot in a little amount of time. I do not recommend taking this course with her if you aren't a fast paced learner and have trouble understanding material just from reading the textbook. Most of the lectures are just summaries and just taking notes in class will not help you on the test.
She is tough but good. You will be challenged but you will learn a lot. Taking her in the spring. Also lots of extra credit.
Has great speakers. Got my internship from one of them. If you want to get a job-this is a good place to meet connections.
Not easy but a good teacher. Read go to class and take notes. You will be fine.
Lectures by talking and writing a few things down on the board and sometimes mentions terms but doesnt go into detail, talks to fast. Her test are way more in depth than her lectures which are very broad. i suggest using the mylab practice problems to study. When i ask her questions I don't get the answer I need. I don't recommend anyone taking her
I loved her class. The speakers were great and it was nice to have someone who has experience in the field. The tests aren't easy, but she will help you if you go to her office.
I liked her style she is very knowledgeable and gave exam review sessions and extra credit not easy but a good class
Prof. Gilstrap would say that her tests aren't "definition based" but honestly they are. If you read the book thoroughly, go to class and take good notes of her lecture, and really understand and know the definitions of everything she says you'll pass. You have to really work hard for a good grade, but she really knows her stuff.
All lecture, tests are pretty hard (very specific to what she says and in her words) and theyre most of your grade. Had quite a few extra credit opportunities though. Dont take if you want powerpoints and other materials. Goes over tests with you and you can see what you got wrong and why.
Great class. Great professor. She will help you if you need it and will connect you with people in her network. I am taking her again this semester.
Go to class if you want to pass. Tests are very hard and specific, take notes and make sure you understand. Tophat is used for IOLA's and attendance (help boost you at the end of the semester). She is very nice and willing to help. She has a no technology policy, so no phones or computers during lecture. Work hard and you can do it!
Great class. Love the speakers. Tests are hard but if you go to class and study you will be fine.
Professor Gilstrap is very knowledgeable and passionate about marketing. Tests are difficult but not impossible, as long as you study they are okay. She has awesome guest lectures. Best professor at making real world connections and applying definitions and theory's to real life situations.
Let's just say she's not very nice. No laptops or phones allowed in class. Tests aren't terrible and other assignments aren't too bad but she can be quite mean. She does tophat attendance but it doesn't actually help your grade. She will only use attendance to round your final grade up if its .5 and above. Other than that, attendance doesn't count.
Loved this class. Great guest speakers. She is the reason I am a marketing major.
She cares a lot about her students and connects her lectures to the real world. I am taking her class in the summer.
I loved this class. I wasn't a marketing major, but after taking this class I signed up. It was my favorite class at VCU. She gives extra credit and makes the lectures practical. If you are interested in marketing, take this class.
I loved this class. her tests weren't easy but if you come to class and take notes you will be fine. great speakers. I actually learned something.
I was worried about this class because I heard she has hard test. if you go to class and go to her office to see what you missed, everything will be fine. She connects the reading to what is going on is business which I thought was good.
If youre awful at taking tests, then avoid this professor at all costs! There are three main exams and based on scenario questions not vocabulary, so you really have to understand the material especially in depth. There is no technology policy and you have to write notes in a notebook.
Gives terrible exams that I have spent countless nights on study guides for (all study guides created were 42+ pages long). Does not give you specific things to study for on tests and tests make up 75% of your grade. Avoid at all costs.
Great professor. Knows her stuff and brings in speakers. Taking her class in the spring.
Love this class. Exams are not easy but are fine if you study. I got an internship from one of the speakers.
Gives exams that are way more in depth than the lectures she gives... You HAVE to study for the exams otherwise you won't pass. Grades are based on exams, online assignments, and (some) extra credit. Show up to class because she doesn't use powerpoints.
This is a great class. Nice change for VCU.. The classes are interesting and the real world speakers are great. The exams are tough but if you study will be fine.
Super accessible. Very nice and very helpful.
do the homework, it is so easy and answers are always on quizlet. attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss more than 4 classes she won't curve your grade at the end of semester. some extra credit, GO TO CLASS, the textbook sucks. all multiple choice exams. cancels class for online assignments (the homework) which is open all day and takes 30 min
Professor Gilstrap is a very cool teacher, however her tests are nothing like the lectures. She will not give you any type of hint as to what will be on each test and the final. She is a fast responder when you send her emails asking questions. She also does not allow any type of electronics, including laptops so notes must hand written.
Loved her and her class. She is connected and is wiling to help you.
Katie is SUPER sweet and knows what she is talking about. I took advantage of how good of a teacher she is, I wish I attended more classes. I thought this class would be an easy A, but I was very wrong. Attend lectures and take good notes and really study for the tests, they're kind of hard. Tophat attendance extra credit and will help in the end
She is an overall great professor and knows the material well. She elaborates the material well but does not give us enough practice to prepare for the exams. The exams are HARD for such an "easy class". Her teaching style is different than most professors and tries to give a "mini apprenticeship" but was not that helpful for the exams.
She is awesome. She knows the material and wants to help you learn. She made the switch to online learning easy. She is not the easiest but she is caring and is a great teacher. I am taking her again for a summer class.
I was told not to take her class but it was the only one that fit my schedule and I'm glad I did. She really knows what she's talking about from experience and she gives great examples for everything. the best was to do well is to take good notes of lectures and write down the examples. Assignments are not hard. Study notes for tests.
I had Katie for Marketing 301 and she's a good professor. Her tests are extremely challenging, but just study your notes from class. I wouldn't waste time studying from the book. She makes you work for an A, but she's better than the other marketing professors at VCU.
she was very helpful and always availabble. great professor.
She is cool and she knows her stuff. She is connected and will help you.
Mrs. Gilstrap makes this marketing class spectacular. There a couple of assignments, quizzes, and exams. PLEASE, PLEASE, do NOT collaborate with anyone else for the assignments; there was a complaint about it, and she was disappointed. So remember, NO COLLABORATIONS permitted while you work.
This class can be challenging at times, but just study and pay attention to her lectures. I took it asynchronously and it was a little challenging at times. Everything was open book though, just don't collaborate with others!! She gave us extra credit at the end of the semester which really helped.
Not difficult class but tried to make it harder for students to understand and earn good grade. Tedious class materials, unprepared guest speakers, ridiculous expectation from clients. Tough on grading professionalism. Katie is so rude and disrespectful. Instead of juding students, ask you and your team how to prepare professional meetings plz.
Such a great class. Professional videos and great guests. She is always available to help. Take her class if you can.
Such a great teacher. Professional videos. Always willing to meet and answer questions. Take her if you can.
This class can be tough, but she is super helpful. Videos are great and she will meet with you whenever. Teasm project and several exams.
best profesor at vcu. has guest speakers and great videos. linkedin with some of the people who she interviewed in the videos. taking her again this semester.
Such a professional! Great vibes, never pushy. Hybrid class with challenging material that is reviewed in lectures and implemented into projects. Semester long project that you can eventually add to your resume. Exams are open note. Grading scale is a little weird so it is hard to improve grade, but she is generous with extra credit opportunities.
Amazingggg My fav. quizzes not worth much. 3 exams + final. easy if you watch her lectures read the textbook and go over quizzes with her you will get an easy A on exam. Quizzes and tests are scenario-based non-vocab. I've always loved her class. We did a visit to a research firm and had guest speakers. TAKE HER!
If you want to succeed in this course, get ready to read the assigned textbook & watch her lectures. Dont let this scare you as her lectures were AMAZING and very informative!! She gives multiple chances for extra credit, and her test focus heavily on what was said in the textbook & in her lectures.
THE WORST! Tests that have material you can't find in her lectures or even the book. Rude and vague when you need help and she used online videos only that did not cover the information in detail. Really sucky class that just keeps you STRESSED OUT the whole time. People get tricked because she's nice in person but SHE'S AN AWFUL PROFESSOR AVOID!!!
Hated this class so much! She made trying to learn SPSS the hardest thing and she never had class. She just gives video lectures and never has physical class to help us. The Richmond Symphony client was a joke and they were super rude about every aspect of the project. Test are impossible just like her 301 (I've taken both). STAYED STRESSED, AVOID!
Loved her! Loved the project and her style. Great professor!
This class can be challenging at times, but it was great. I took it asynchronously and it was a little challenging at times. But i lerned a lot. Lots of extra credit.
Heard good things about her and so glad I took this class. Super available for help and really quick to respond to emails. Videos were professional and exams were doable. Lots of extra credit! Taking her class this summer.
Professor Gilstrap is extremely kind and goes out of her way to make our modules enjoyable with video lectures and other educational content online. All of that is great! BUT this class project was the most confusing I'd ever worked on. She wrote a lot yet still provided unclear and contradictory instructions due to the manner of the project.
Professor Gilstrap is extremely kind and goes out of her way with accessibility outside of class and thoughtful lectures. She is great. BUT the class project was extremely confusing no matter how hard I tried. She provides a lot of information but provided unclear and contradictory instructions due to the manner of the project.
One of the best professors I have has at VCU
I was super nervous about this class at first, but it ended up being a great experience! Watch/take notes on the lecture videos and textbook to do well on the quizzes/tests. Textbook also comes with tons of practice problems. You have to put in the work, but she offered a lot of extra credit and went out of her way to help our grades in other ways.
Super mid professor. She is nice and there are barely any assignments but if you don't dumpster dive into the textbooks and lecture videos, the exams will be hard for you. You can't go back on exams. Her class is structured as if HW= 1 pt, Quizzes= 1.5 pt, and Exams = 21-23 pt = 100 points.
Love her! Super responsive and helpful. Her videos were really helpful.
Professor Gilstrap is one of the best at VCU!! She really cares about her students and give amazing feedback on all assignments. She is always there to help and is very kind. Definitely take her if you can!
Currently in this class I wished I hadn't signed up. course load is very heavy - read 2 chapters from the textbook each week, chapters usually consist of over 30+ pages each. they are very repetitive and quite long - in addition there are usually 3 videos 20-45mins plus for each. sometimes they refer to other videos which are also long
I love profesor gilstrap. She really cares and has great speakers. watch the videos and you will do well.
Prof. Gilstrap is very kind and it was a easy course. She had some great guest lecturers come in as well. Some of the tests were a bit hard, but study are you'll be fine.
Overall she is a pretty good professor, she's very sweet and knowledgeable. The exams are a bit tricky because you cant go back to a question once you've hit "next" and they are timed at 60 minutes, but she gives a 5% extra credit opportunity for each exam. She's also dropping our lowest exam score which is going to help a lot of ppl. overall good!
There is very little work for this course. Lecture videos and readings were the bulk, but the few quizzes and tests we had were straightforward. Would recommend!
She was ok. She was unorganized because our class was asynchronous but also synchronous at times? I wish she would just pick a side like dang. Overall she's ok, her content was easy. 7.5/10
Would recommend 10/10
Katie's class requires dedication, but it's rewarding. The lectures and textbook are essential - make sure to utilize Unstuck AI for extra study prep. Exams can be tricky, but she offers helpful extra credit.
Very simple class. It's mostly online with a few in person classes, which are all workshops by random companies. The homework and exams are kind of annoying. You have to watch all her videos in order to understand the content, because she doesn't actually teach it in person. Kind of annoying, but definitely a simple class.
I love this professor. Super flexible. She brings experts in and offers lots of extra credit.
Super kind professor with a lot of cool guest speakers. This was a hybrid zoom/in person/asynchronous class and it was honestly super slight.
Professor is very well versed in marketing and is very welcoming and open to speaking with her students. The class was mostly online readings and videos, with some in person guest speakers who were pretty interesting. Not a difficult class if you keep up with the work and take notes on readings. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities.
A fantastic professor! Highly recommend her she makes learning the content easy! Just do the readings and HW and you will do great!! Make sure you do the extra credit to bump up your grade!!
Great, easy class. class is online, Tests and quizzes are online open note, didn't need a textbook, light homework assignment, very friendly and nice!
I was a member of her asynchronous class, the assignments for the most part was pretty simple just do the weekly readings and you will be ok. I would suggest reviewing her videos she posts weekly because they do help with studying for the exams. She was a good professor, and she has a number of extra credit opportunities, I recommend.
I took this class hybrid, and it was super easy. In person, it was mostly just guest speakers who were great to connect with and learn from. Online, the assignments were straightforward and easy. You get what you want out of the class. She has plenty of extra credit and dropped one exam grade. She's really cool and down to earth (and stylish lol).
She is incredibly kind, yet also super knowledgeable about marketing! As long as you study well, you will pass the class. She also offers tons of extra credit and is always willing to help. She also did a great job of making some really complex marketing concepts very easy to understand. Highly recommend!
Dr. Gilstrap is fine. The class is uninspiring and there it very little to take away if it is not a required class for your major. Its a fine elective if you need, but I would take something else.
Loved her. Organized and available ouside of class. Great speakers too. 10/10
