Great lectures but a hard grader. She expects everyone to be a history major.
She is too high strung and emotional; brings her problems into the classroom
interesting, informative lectures, fun class, but you better work!!
If you don't like history, this class aint for you. She freaks me out. Probably the worst class I have ever had.

Brings personal issues to class. Vauge on deadlines. Very vindictive if you cross her. Got A's on tests, and A+ on final and still gave me a C for the course. Best council: make sure you're on her good side, or transfer out immeadiatly!
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! she is a horrible teacher
I think you deffinitly have to have some kind of interest to enjoy her class. she does have some degree of enjoyment teaching, but she can also lash out emotionally at the class if there not there with her.
I really liked her becuase she was so passionate and enthusiastic about history. She taught the same ol stuff but from a new perspective that was interesting. Not very easy b/c she expects you to really earn your grade.
BORING.............I WANNA FALL ASLEEP WHEN SHE TALKS
i love her teaching style!!!! if you are able to take notes and read you'll be find.. and you must participate!!!!
shes not that hard, but if u want an A u actually should read the book, and she doesnt bring her personal problems to class, she just voices her opinion, i hated her at first but now i think shes okay
She's a great teacher, but if you're not very interested in history, don't take her class. Save a seat for someone who will enjoy what she has to say. Passionate, and she knows her material; great to talk to one-on-one.
A ding-a-ling. Has great difficulty staying on topic. As an earlier reviewer has said, she's very high-strung and brings her emotional problems into class with her. Still an easy A, though.
Very passionate and knowledgeable. A really great teacher and very helpful if you go to office hours. Books were good. Had really cool extra credit activities during summer. If you're interested in US history, or had to take it, I would definitely recommend Graham.
Not much history being taught in this class. She spends most of her "lectures" railing against George Bush and the War in Iraq. It's an easy A, though.
this lady is nice but she need to focus. Her personal problems always get brought up, she seems a bit off. And good luck on the tests. I challenge someone to try to take notes on her class because you write one thing and she goes to a completley different topic. If your a guy and give her the eye she might help you more
She gives out high grades to people she likes. She gave people that scored Ds on all the tests an A in the class. I am a straight A student but I got a B in her class. She told me that I needed to take a composition class for college writing on our first paper. Its funny b/c I'm an English major and taken english classes at UCB and recieved all A's
Her class was so unorganized it was ridiculous. She plays favorites really bad. Her grading doesn't make sense at all. She extended her class 4 days after the end date! She is all over the place. This was the worst teacher I have ever had at DVC
She's ok. She is kinda hard and you have to read the text book. But she really does try and help and she gives some extra credit. Only thing is is that she takes FOREVER to grade papers.
Very neurotic, biased, and disorganized. Wastes valuable class time on irrelevant political diatribes and personal anecdotes. If you want to get an A in her class, never contradict her, always agree with whatever she says, smile and nod a lot. After you get your A and leave DVC, you can get back at her by voting Republican. That'd serve her right.
I walked into this woman's class on my first day of college and it made me want to give up and work at a grocery store for the rest of my life. her class literally gave me a headache and she seemed scatterbrained, nervous, and distracted. she tried really hard but seemed to be struggling with immense personal issues. i don't recommend her at all.
Worst class I have ever taken at the college level. She was always at least 15 minutes late and was never prepared for class. Sometimes she would have to run back to her car to get stuff or go to her office to get papers. She also likes to stand on her soap box and tell you her stance to everything which is NOT a professors job!! Horrible class!
You HAVE to use the sources shes gives you. And read the chapters a week ahead of time. Otherwise you'll get behind and the tests will be harder. Typical college stuff. But pay VERY close attention to her directions and ask for input. Use her advice to your advantage, she will grade easier.
Crazy, unorganized, at least 10-15 minutes late in starting class due to her morning yoga... make sure and stay on top of the reading. The tests are ridiculous if you don't read, even though the reading is pretty much the exact same thing as her lectures.
Easy class. You don't need to go to her classes, just read the textbook (which is really easy to read) and that's it. Tests & quizzes are very easy. She's kind of weird...just don't look at the clock and she won't get mad at you.
Other than that she looks like she has had five cups of coffee and an energy drink before each class, she is rather good. she focuses on the material and definitely knows her stuff.stay quiet, read, participate, and take notes. Not terribly difficult and don't have to attend classes after tests (nothing ever covered).
She is weird but in a good way. Not extremely easy going, but if you do the work & she knows it she'll like you & you'll do well. She makes you do these assignments where you write out the homework you'll do when and what etc. But its just easy points. Don't slack, read, and you'll get A or B.
she a stupid ****. she always comes in about 10-15 minuts late. constently complaing, and a hypocrite(sp)? she just trys to intimmidate here students. the only good thing about her is that she hates George w bush
NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER take her for history. I had her last summer. SHE missed almost two weeks of class during a six-week course due to "travel" or she just never showed up. We didn't do half the stuff we were supposed to in the syllabus and she was ALWAYS at least 15 minutes late every morning. Appalling! Truly terrible teacher!
Terrible teacher. Contradicts herself in her class rules, is rude to students, and an intolerable personality all together.
Took this History 121 class over the summer, She told the class form the start that it would be no cake walk. she wanted us to read about a chapter every two days. This class was interesting, she is a great teacher and knows alot. Six weeks is to short for a history class.
This teacher is terrible. She told us that our parents raised wrong, that she could write fabulous papers. She didn't show up to class for tests and other random times. She takes forever to grade tests. If you didn't do something correctly, she would talk down to you as if you were a child. She gives everyone C's regardless of what you should get
She is a terrible teacher. She told the whole class that our parents didn't raise us right and she yelled all the time and talked to us like we were babies. She isn't clear with directions and she gets mad when we don't understand her. All of our homework is online when i signed up for an in class. She should be fired!!!!
Some people here are harsh. I liked her but thats probably because I love history and have a very liberal background. I imagine being a republican in that class is hell. Read the book and study for tests. She uses an online thing called history class. All quizes and hw are on there but it usually malfunctions and you have to pay extra for it.
She is extreamyhard onher testshegrades almost ashard as an english teacher on your papers if u know your history very wellyou should be ok in this class if you are somewhat knowledgeable in historyyou will have trouble. but she knows her history extremely well
A plague to the field, I seriously do not recommend taking her even if you need a class requirement.
Take someone else. She's unreasonable, unreliable, and expects too much out of everyone. Even if you're a good student, you'll be overwhelmed.
HARDEST tests ever they never relate to the reading. you have to read between the lines all the time. she is rude, crazy, and very hard to understand. when asking questions she responds as if your stupid. never take a 3 hr class with her. so difficult. she is just crazy! SAVE YOURSELF!! but if you do have to take her sign up w/ a friend lol.
She raises the standards when the majority of the class does poorly. She doesn't help with student performance.
If you do poorly in her class, you can at least take cold comfort knowing it wasn't your fault.
Not my best teacher yet. she prepares you for a university level class, but is alright to suffer through for the transferable credit. not the easiest teacher but is helpful in some cases.
She is crazy....if you cant read directions....dont take her. If you can read directions, dont take her class. Either way, she's crazy. She talks down to you if you ask a question. I was told I was going to be getting a A with all of my extra credit. She gave me a C and didnt return my calls or emails! DONT TAKE HER! SHE'S CRAZY!
She pretty much made me hate history. I basically had a headache every time I left her class. She made you initial on the tests so she would know you read the directions and if you didn't, she would call you out in front of the class during the test. I ran out the class each day. If you like sucking up, you'll be on her good side.
hard teacher, very boring and tedious, big daily workload, grades written assignments toughly, she can lecture for 2 hours straight and be very boring. Expects use of extra online resources which adds to difficulty of this class.
Yes she is a challenging. I took her summer course, everything was crammed into 6 weeks. I hated her in the first week, but after I sucked it up and did the reading I was assigned I found that I learned more in her class than any other history class I have ever taken. She's particular and challenging, but it's what's expected at the college level.
Very harsh grader, she gives unrealistic amounts of reading which she expects you to complete in short periods of time. Another major problem is that it's difficult to pay attention to her because she's so boring, and when you do it's difficult to make sense of what you just heard ... no compelling reason to ever take her class.
Always late for class, condescending, unreasonable when turning in homework late when you're sick, harsh grader, opinionated, her lectures are her opinions, and she takes forever to return papers. If you really can't stand a woman on a power trip do not take her class. She won't listen and tell you that you're wrong.
always late, not helpful at all, very boring and uninteresting, she expects everyone is as interested in the subject as she is and always wants lots of precise information on essays and tests, overall the class isn't all that hard though as long as you read/listen to lectures
Her grading is unfair. She is unclear and unorganized during lecture. Quizzes not based on material she assigned. Much too biased when teaching, leaves out important material b/c of her own opinion of the source. Be prepared to do a lot of work and still receive and unsatisfactory mark.
Why so negative on here? She knows her stuff and is a fascinating lecturer. She's not lenient since she's been burned in the past by students Lots of extra credit, Very accommodating if something is legitimately wrong in your life. If you take a half semester or summer course, yes, be prepared to work hard. But it's short and she's fair.
If you are ignorant and want to stay that way, do not take her class. She's gotten more strident about the small things, but she's lively, passionate and informed. There's a point to her lectures (usually background to later issues). Be prepared to read a lot. You'll need to integrate disparate materials and be able to discuss some.
Katie is brilliant but you will have to work hard to reap the benefits of her class. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT take this class if at all lacking in reading/writing skills because you will not do well. She is also very funny and easy on the eyes. Reading assignment about Belgian colonization of the Congo was particularly engaging.
Mrs. Graham is a caring, fair minded old school style teacher who demands her students be engaged. If you aren't, you will fail. Her assignments are very straightforward, and the experience you gain in her class will prepare you for any college you transfer to. Mrs. Graham's classes are a must take for serious transfer students
K. Graham is excellent at lecture. She KNOWS her subject. You need to attend class, you need to read. Her exams are intense, but if you take time to study you'll do great. Note: turn off your cell phone. :)
Very interesting class, Katie is intelligent and knows what shes talking about, I learned a lot but I also had to drop because exams are sooo difficult. I take notes and read the text also attend class regularly (actually looked forward to lectures) but they were not enough to pass the exams. Grades are strictly based on exams which is why I drop
I enjoyed taking Hist 141 from Katie for the most part, but it was difficult because she was absent so often (Instructor had a fairly serious car accident midway through the semester). She was almost always at least 5-10 minutes late and seemed very disorganized. She expects a lot from her students. Good choice if you love history.
I find Professor Graham to be difficult. I am currently enrolled in her 120 course. She has been absent(4)times and is always 5-10 minutes late. She is a great person. She expects a lot from her students. She is frequently crabby and may steal the joy away from learning. Beware when taking her course. I recommend. Come to her class ready to work!
Katie was completely disorganized and irresponsible which I found insulting given that she's getting paid (for being late and missing class and being frequently unprepared!?) to teach. I survived the class but would never take another class with her again.
Katie graham is a horrible United States history professor. Perhaps she is incredible in her other classes but she teaches history as if it is a psychology class. Her questions on tests and exams are short and not specific, yet she demands Intricate answers. It is impossible to pass an exam off notes from her lectures and the answers from the book.
The worst! Boring, mean, and a bad teacher!
This class sucks!!!!!! Nobody cares, she's awful, and she doesn't notice or doesn't care herself.
Bad reacher Lectures are confusing and boring. test are easy but random and she doesn't make sense a lot of times and contradicts herself a lot. thinks she is funny not. in the end stuuf happened and i custed her out and she sent me to the VP but the VP said it was Both our faults. she should get fired
Honestly this is a great teacher if you don't just write down what she has on the Powerpoint. If you write down what she says word by word you're a good note taker. Attend class, buy the book read it and take notes, and ask questions. Office hours with her is encouraged
I am surprised by the comments below. She is an absolutely amazing teacher. Very interesting and very caring! Read the book and go to class - you'll do great.
Katie is a great historian, but a horrible teacher. Basically no matter how hard to try to get an A, you will not earn one. She is not easy to work with and often missed class because she had a problem without warning the class ahead of time. If you can avoid this teacher then do it at all possible costs.
Katie is nice and loves history, but her class structure is very unorganized confusing. Rarely used D2L, so understanding where you should be in the text was hard. Lectures lengthy all over the place. Exams didn't match study guides. She'd be a great teacher if she was more organizedcommunicative, but she is very accommodating compassionate.
Got bad reviews, but I loved her class. She was very helpful and always full of life. The class is graded on participation, two midterms, final, and an essay at the end of the semester. Read and take notes and you'll pass. She's one of my favorite professors and wrote me an amazing letter of rec. Learned so much, passed it onto my bus law class.
shes very excited when it comes to history and is upset when she doesn't see the same from her students. lectures are all over the place so you basically need to read. the study guide is the type that just lists EVERYTHING in the book and lecture so its not very helpful when the exam covers 6 chapters. unless you enjoy reading don't take the class.
She would come to class and use the first half of a three hour lecture to talk about whatever political issues were bothering her. Sorry, but Indian land rights in Guatemala has nothing to do with the Crash of 29. I pointed this out, and she retaliated by giving me a C for the course when I got A+ on every test and got 150 out of 140 for the final.
I'm currently taking her history 120 course and I'm only about half way through. She's already messed up with due dates and when I emailed her about this she was nothing but rude to me and replied with an arrogant and demeaning email. She makes course schedules but then changes her mind. When I ask for help I practically get shamed for doing so.
I have never left a review but this teacher just isnt fair at all. She responds to emails with sarcasm. Shes rude, blunt, and seriously RUDE. I asked for her and she basically showed me how my classmates response was better than mine. No help just criticism. I will be filing a complaint, its that serious.
SHE IS THE WORST AND MOST RUDE TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. When you email her for help, not only does she NOT HELP YOU, but she responds in the most rude and condescending ways that a teacher should never talk to a student! Sometimes SHE DOESN'T EVEN REPLY! I DO NOT recommend her at all, not even to my worst enemy. She should not teach AT ALL.
She is a little rude, but she's still a good teacher and an easy grader. A decent amount of reading, and 2 papers 1-2 pages long.
At first I thought she was good. But then she kept mis-posting our quizzes and assignments online. Takes forever to grade. To top it off, she (or Globalyceum) LOST my final. I had already returned my book so I borrowed from her. Not even 8hrs after I picked the book up from DVC (at 2:30pm) she closed the final and gave me a C
Good teacher, tough grader. Have online homework each week, 4 quizes online and 4 tests plus a essay. Her test study guides were very broad and unclear so its hard to study for her tests but shes helpful if you ask her for help after class. She is a little rude but she knows her material and is organized.
I really enjoyed the routine of this class. Read - section/chapter tests -written essay - midterm. Repeat. Simple as it sounds, the class content is RICH and HEAVY. She is not specific about what you need to know, so just know everything. DON'T SKIM READINGS, DIGEST THEM. I recommend emailing Katie frequently and giving yourself EXTRA study time.
Ahh where to start. Professor Graham is an amazing lecturer and really brings the material to life. Having such passion and detail brings out the significance of the history. Her personality can come off very strong and she is quick to dismiss students as unintelligent especially the quieter ones. Do the work and you'll get at least a B.
She's a caring nice woman. I failed every test and passed. She gives you a paper to write about the Hiroshima bombing which isn't interesting to me. She likes when you're intrigued about history. She's passionate for it
This was one of my most favorite instructors, hands down. Her lectures are interesting and informative. If you want to learn history, take the class from this teacher. She is passionate about history and connects the dots from the past to present events. Yes, she is firm on her scale but she's always available to students who want knowledge.
TERRIBLE teacher She says she's full of energy and her lectures are fun. but they aren't. Boring class. Uses online website for homework and quizzes 1 for each every week Was sick one day emailed her went to the next class said she didn't believe meWorst teacher at DVCTells you to ask questions. When you ask yells at you in front of the whole class
First, I will give her credit. She knows the material, that's about it. After that I would highly recommend not taking her especially for GE. While attendance isnt mandatory, if you skip class you will definitely miss out on something that will be on the test. She is also very slow to responding outside of class if that is something you need.
Very energetic teacher that knows a lot about history, but does not have the best attitude. Her schedule is all over the place and homework/quizzes are done through a website online. She also doesn't post lectures on canvas; but did say notes could be used during in class tests.
She Talks ALOT , rambles, and rants about the goverment lol. She knows her history. Her classes gives alot of info so dont skip class, most of the class its just taking notes as she talks with her powerpoints with very little info and the most info she tells you so listen carefully. she can be rude at times and have people looking dumb.
She gives in class lectures that drone on and on, while the main material that you need for passing the class is on the online textbook. She does not personalize with the students and instead treats each person as nothing more than a chair.
Prof Graham knows her material, but avoid her class unless you are ok with chaos, uncertainty and no direction. Prof was often MIA, unresponsive, changed assignments abruptly and gave poor feedback. Always had drama going on. Students would email her and she would get irritated. She is politically biased and won't present different points of view.
She didn't post anything for the first three weeks and didn't reply to any emails. Once the class did start it got really assignment heavy and test heavy. Lots and lots of reading.
DONT take her classes. She is very nitpicky about the smallest things she will mark you 10% down from assignments just for not writing out a number date. She was very cold and unapproachable.
She was very rude. She wasn't nice when I took her. I had to drop out.
IF you want to get a 4 year UC level education then take Professor Graham. She brings so much to class in terms of reading or watching videos from PBS and other places that support the lectures and books. She loves what she does. IF you are looking for a lazy way thru college, this isnt for her. Not hard to get an A if you do the assigned work.
Professor Graham is TOP NOTCH when it comes to her knowledge and passion for what she is teaching. Make no mistake, she is excellent in that regard. However, if you are looking for an easy grade, this is likely not the class for you. If your aim is to learn as much as you can - take no one else BUT Professor Graham - she is a wealth of knowledge.
This is the first class I had gotten a C in... a pretty hard class and I tried my best on quizzes and papers but she is a tough grader. Not an easy A. Maybe it's better as an in-person class? also, she was always complaining in her announcements.
Katie is an amazing teacher. She gives her heart and soul to teaching. If you want to do well in her class she will go to great lengths to guide you, assuming you are willing to do the work! Her lectures and power points are invaluable. Are you wondering if you a good enough student for a place like UCB? Take her class and find out.
Katie is amazing if you're interesting in the curriculum. If you get to know her she's a sweetheart with a real passion for history. She shares a lot of personal stories which is what really sparked my interest. She's a tough grader and won't let the slacking slide but definitely communicate with her and she will help you out. I loved having her!
This was one of the worst professors I have ever had at DVC. Professor Graham expects you to read and recite large amounts of material as if you were a history grad student. Tests would have material that was on optional readings and lectures would be scattered and extremely tangential. Overall, I would avoid this professor entirely.
The class consists of a bunch of reading assignments, a weekly quiz, and weekly response or discussion. She is one of the worst professor at DVC I've ever taken. Her directions are really confusing. She is not helpful when you reach out for help and shames you for not understanding.
Katie Graham is a brilliant teacher. She made learning US History a pleasure for me. She is an excellent lecturer- very knowledgeable - lucid and interesting. I wish all my teachers were as intelligent as Katie is. She also went out of her way to help me when I reached out to her with questions. I give her solid 5 stars.
I attended professor Graham's HIST 120 in person during the Fall 2022 semester. Her abundance of knowledge and caring disposition make her an outstanding professor. There are no tests in her course but you will need to actively participate and have an understanding of the material. She does everything in her power to help her students succeed.
HORRIBLE!! Take anyone else but this lady. Such a hard grader for no reason. WAY too much work to be considered a 3 unit class.
If you want to learn, and find rabbit holes in history to go down, take Prof Graham's course. If you just want to fill a seat, don't bother. Prof Graham will take you on a trip through history like no other. You will learn how events and consequences interact. You won't get an A just for showing up but you will learn more than you ever hoped.
Honestly don't bother taking this course online if you are expecting less of a workload. Professor Graham runs her classes more rigorously than an in person class.
Way too tough of a grader. She says off the bat expect to put in 20-25 hours a week of reading and learning material, way too much for just a 3 unit class. She gives lots of feedback, she grades way too hard. No actual grade, just complete or incomplete, so you can mess up on one thing, and she'll mark you as incomplete.
Im not even halfway done with this course but I already hate it . So annoying. Gives 1000 word response feedback to a literal 1 paragraph assignment. Like how much time do you have on your hands. Can tell she's only a teacher to prove she knows more than everyone else. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE
Right of the bat you're told you'll need to have 20+ hours a week of reading and watching lecture videos. If you're looking for an easy gen ed coure, do not take this class. She also states she does not believe in transactional education, meaning she wants you to work hard for your grade. Overall, too time consuming for a busy schedule
I'm going to be honest, If you want to take this class just to fill in your schedule, Please don't. She does give feedback. But Tests are heavily weighted in the class and also really challenging. The textbook provided is useless, Overall, treat this class as if it were a full-time job if you decide to take it. BUT PLEASE DON'T!!!!
Do not take this Professor! She is a nightmare! I went to her office hours for help and she didn't help me. Her assignments are heavy and too much for me to perform well in my other classes. I eventually just dropped the class, and I lost the biggest headache ever! She thinks that just because she the professor means she is better. Don't take her!
Prepare to spend 20-25+ hrs/week working. Workload is very heavy & time-consuming. If you can read fast, watch hours of uninterrupted videos/lectures & have a lot of time on your hands, go for it. She's not helpful whatsoever and shames you if you misinterpret the material. She grades tough & unfairly. I definitely don't recommend this professor.
I really enjoyed this class. Her deep understanding of the material was great, since a passionate teacher really helps you understand the subject better. She tries to incorporate details that you usually wouldn't learn about from another history class or textbook to contextualise the material for you, which is great (lots of reading though).
She explains that this is a college class firstly and should be treated like one. She is actually really nice and when I was on the verge of a B, she rounded my grade up! If you actually try and read the specifications carefully for each assignment, you should be good. Make sure to pay attention in the discussion posts because they are specific.
Do not take her. Condescending to students and does not set you up for success.
She's not the kind of teacher you would want to have around students. Not motivating and learn nothing.
If you're looking for an easy class, this is not the one for you. Professor Graham is very well versed with the material and expects you to be as well (valid). She holds her students to high standards but if you're willing to put in the effort, you'll learn a lot. She's also kinda funny and comes across stricter than she really is. Hard but so real
This class is a heavy time commitment - expect to spend 20+ hrs/week. The professor can be unhelpful and tough on grading. However, Unstuck AI's study tools helped me stay on top of the workload.
doesn't even follow her own grading criteria, just gives good grade if she likes it and gives incomplete if she doesn't like it.
She is on a different planet and not a fun one. be warned.
