My most favorite teacher! She cares about her students futures and their well beings. She is probably the coolest, most down to earth teacher ever! I definitely would take another class of hers! She gives very few homework assignments, do them and you'll be good! She does let you use your notes on the exam, so take thorough notes and you're good!

Mrs. Heaton-Smith is new to the LBCC teaching system and I was really lucky to have her during her first semester. She is a very detail oriented teacher, especially when it comes to Psychology- it's all about applying the information you learn inwards and outwards. She is a great teacher and if you listen and follow what is expected, you will pass.

Great teacher. Her lectures are exactly what will be on the test. There was about three exams and a research paper. She's very intriguing, you'll learn a lot. Its an easy A if you show up and take notes.

P. Katie has the absolute best lectures! Taking her human sexuality class next semester (even though it doesn't count towards any of my credits) because she is absolutely amazing. Attendance/ minimal participation is part of your grade, 4 easy hw assignments, open note exams even the final! Uses powerpoints for lecture so you don't need the book.

Katie was the best professor I have ever had, She's very clear as to what she wants from every assignment and is always willing to help if you have questions. She honestly cares about her students so much and it shows. There are a few papers throughout the semester but nothing too hard. she made psych so interesting bc she is so passionate

She is so easy going and makes the class fun, even though we talk about things that can seem uncomfortable. She is clear with what she wants on the homework, and tests are open note. NOTEBOOKS ARE ALLOWED ON TESTS! Homework was a breeze! Everything so easy and she is am amazing human being and professor! Her lectures are never boring and if you show up you are bound to get an A since attendance is half the grade. She is understanding, reasonable, and by far my favorite professor!

Professor Heaton-Smith is one of those professors that you can tell really love what they are doing. She has such enthusiasm when she teaches it makes the class fun. She is not afraid to talk about any topic you bring up and gets excited when questions are asked.

I honestly took this class with having no idea what to expect. This was one of the most interesting and fascinating classes I have ever taken. Professor Heaton-Smith was so involved and enthusiastic throughout the whole semester. Her class is an easy A if you show up and do the work. If you don't show up, or do the homework you probably won't pass.

She is such an incredible professor!!! Shes' engaging, interesting, funny, quirky, and super enthusiastic every single class. She has 2 exams (open note), an essay, a presentation, journal entries (honors), and a non-cumulative final (also open note). Very straightforward grading criteria and she will tell you exactly what she expects to get 100%.

This professor is hilarious! show up and take notes, why? because any written notes can be used on her tests and don't forget to print out and fill out the study guides! take Her!

She assigned the homework this way so it can be more helpful to write your essay (only 1). Uploads PowerPoint notes on moodle. Do the work & you will pass!

Best professor I had the opportunity to take by far. Simple class if you show up and take notes. Allowed to use handwritten notes on the exams which were extremely helpful because her powerpoints and study guides are exactly like the exams. Four or five homework assignments and one final essay.

Her humor made class more fun, overall not a difficult class. 5 homework assignments that all lead up to an essay at the end that is an easy A if you keep up. 3 open note exams that are very clear cut especially with the study guides provided. Professor Heaton-Smith has a very relaxed personality that makes a 7 AM class bearable.

She makes the subject so interesting. Her humor just makes the class even better! She allows you to have notes when taking the test as long as they are hand-written. Just follow the rubric and you'll get full points for your assignment. Attendance is apart of your grade, but it was really fun being in her class. I recommend taking her!

Katie Heaton-Smith is a great professor. She has a fantastic sense of humor and uses it to her advantage when lecturing to make them enjoyable. Her class is extremely interesting and an easy A, as long as your lecture notes are extensive as you get to use them on every test! Only 3 tests and about 4 homework assignments and a final paper, all easy.

PROS: This was the best class that I have attend! She is super friendly and funny. Always ready for lectures too. The attendance is graded and mandatory because you will not literally pass you if you skip. All of the exams including the finals are open notes! Easy A. CONS: Sometimes when you ask her a question, she doesn't have an answer for it.

So easy going, gives wonderful feedback, honest, and so funny. I enjoyed this class ten times more just because she was my professor. The work is easy if you go to class and actively participate. Communication is key, she will help you and work with your schedule if you communicate. Hands down amazing professor!

She makes her assignments and grading extremely clear. She is so great at lecturing- its hard to not pay attention. You are graded for attendance so make sure to go. There were 4 essays, 3 tests, and 1 final paper. All of the papers we wrote were pretty much an outline for the final paper which made it super easy. EASY A.

One of the best professors at LBCC. Her lectures were always engaging and open. The topic was already pretty interesting but she definitely reels you in if you think its not. I would definitely take her again. She is also very understanding and considerate of her students.

Yup here we go again , just enroll already, she is GOD. She makes the class unique by being unique. Only thing that lacked was group work because everyone was awkward most of the time lol, but Katie said that group work is toxic, so just enroll already.

Took Spych10(Human Sexuality) the class could have been awkward, but she made it fun and very open to hear our opinions and point of views on the subject matter, Class is lecture based but all lectures are on posted canvas. Take good notes as she lets you use them on test.. Her class is fun and easy if you put in the work.

Professor Heaton-Smith was an awesome and blunt professor. You can tell that she loves psychology and she shows it truly to her students. Online classes were a breeze as she made it easy for everyone due to us taking quizzes as much as we want. But I really do recommend her because of the effort she shows while teaching!

Theres a reason she has such a high rating, she is an excellent professor. I took it online bc Covid, the class was effortless and informational. Just watched the lectures online, approx. 30 minutes in total each lecture, and discussion and MC exam w/ infinite attempts. Easy A. Final make essay questions from chapters and give 300 word answers.

My favorite teacher I've ever had! She is so funny and really wants you to pass. You can reach her outside of class which is great. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard during her power points (which are available online). I loved her so much I took her again for Psych1H! She was amazing during COVID as well. 10/10 professor give her a raise!

For Fall 2020 online, the work was very doable and it wasn't a lot as long as you stayed on top of your work. There are group discussions(you just have to respond to two people) that need to be done along side your weekly assignments . There are quizzes due every week and they are pretty easy if you read the material and watch the videos.

I've had her for PSYCH 1 and PSYCH 11 and I can honestly say she is one of the best professors at LBCC! Her PowerPoint Lectures are very easy to understand and interesting. Every week there will be a 200 word discussion and a quiz due. She also allows unlimited attempts on the quizzes and multiple extra credit opportunities. Take her class!

The class was super manageable. Just got to do a discussion post and reply to two people every week. You get a quiz every couple weeks and its super easy. One of the easiest classes Ive taken.

She is truly the best! You can retake quizzes, one discussion post per week, and she has the cutest dog too lol! If you can, get her class early because she's so good they fill up very quickly! Im taking her class again for psych 11, because she really is the best and she cares so much. She sends reminders for assignments and thats very rare too.

She was so understanding of so many situations that I was in and she helped accommodate towards me.

This was an incredibly easy class but it was also super informational and her lectures were short but provided great information! There was a discussion and quiz every week but you could retake the quiz as many times as you wanted. She replied pretty quickly to emails and she always gave feedback on discussions and assignments. Great professor!

Great Professor. Take her classes if you can. I took a hybrid class, but we listened to her lectures online and they were good. Post a discussion paper once a week and take a quiz. The quiz is easy and the discussion paper is what you make it, write something decent and you will get a good grade. Overall great class.

As a dual enrollment high school student, this class was so easy to just add into my already full schedule. Her lectures are entertaining and easy to follow and she doesn't give much homework at all. The class was overall an easy A.

Amazing professor. She truly makes her atmosphere welcoming especially if it appears to be awkward. Homework and quizzes are practically given to you. Attendance is a big chunk of your grade so dont neglect that. Other than this, she is by far the best at Long Beach

Zooms are just for Q&A, all teaching is by reading, lecture slides, videos, etc. Dr. Heaton-Smith is a great teacher, and although she has a relaxed personality, the course nevertheless was informative and professional. You'd be doing yourself a disservice by not taking her class(es).

Professor Heaton-Smith was the wonderful therapy I didn't know that I needed! Her lectures and discussions are engaging, and she is clearly passionate about her students. Even if you're not in school for psychology, I would highly recommend taking this course. 1000% would recommend and wish I could take the course again!!!

It's not an "easy" class, but you learn a lot and she is willing to help you after hours. She does grade hard, but the exams are fairly easy. Do a little extra in the discussions and it will get you where you want to be. This is not a Professor that lets the bare minimum slide. But she is fair and helpful. I would take her again.

Lovely professor, I looked forward to every new lesson. She kept her teaching simple and straightforward, quizzes were very easy and there were unlimited tries to them, and discussion posts were interesting and insightful.

Super interactive and engaging lectures. Prof is super kind and funny. Attendance is 8% of your grade, and every single day you miss is counted against you. 5 mini essays through the semester with interesting prompts. you can retake the weekly quizzes as many times as you like! Super manageable class, if you have issues just reach out to the prof.

Professor katie is really nice. She makes her lecutrues fun. She assignessed quizzes but you can take them as much as you want so you can get the grade you desire. I would really recommend her to any student.

I loved this class, and I loved her teaching. She encourages a fun and respectful learning environment. The effort you put into the class is going to reflect in your grade. If you show up and listen, I would say its safe to expect an A.

Professor is great, I would recommend. She has engaging lectures and it's clear she cares for her students. There are 5 short essays throughout the semester and weekly quizzes that you can retake as many times as you'd like. The final is accessible from the beginning of the semester. As long as you show up and complete your work you will get an A.

Dr. Katie, is amazing!! not only does she make the semester extremely easy! she truly cares and loves her students. Their is never a day when class is dull, she has an energy of a happy Golden retriever ahah she's super funny, chill, and overall amazing!!

Weekly discussion board and quiz based on that week's chapter. Very rare textbook readings(she provides the book). The final is you have to answer a few questions with 400 words max. You can retake the quizzes as many times until you get a perfect score. Also gives reminders and is great. Loved it.

Great professor if your major is not psychology, her canvas page is organized and she has a clear grading criteria. Pretty chill professor but her jokes/ comments can be out of pocket and can be seen as unprofessional. Easy class could have gotten an A but that 99.90% was not enough to be rounded up. Would not recommend if your major is psychology.

Very nice and chill professor. Class is simple but informative- new topic each week that has a quiz due on Sunday and an occasional 500 word paper. Textbook is online and only needed as a source for papers. Late work not accepted but tbh there's not a lot of work anyways. I recommend this class to anyone, Prof Smith is so relatable and funny

Easiest class of my life quizzes have UNLIMITED attempts and the class I took was literally only easy quizzes then the easy final.
