She is really easy and interesting in teaching if you want to learn. She is really relaxed and talks about her family sometimes. Don't worry if something is late, she'll understand most of the time.
Mrs. Hughes is a caring teacher and the class is ridiculously easy!!
she's very nice and she will go out of her way to help her students. she's great at explaining things and she always keeps her appointments
Funny, easy- going
This professor is very easy going, nice, and sweet. My writing improved so much from just the push to succeed from her. When the essays come back she has shown you exactly what you did wrong and how to improve them.
Mrs. Hughes was my first RWS teacher, and by far I think she has been one of the best writing teachers I have ever had. Very easy going, very intelligent, and wow does she know how to write. She doesnt try to tell you that your writing is wrong, but she definately helps you sharpen your skills. A+
very nice teacher! extremely understanding and committed to her job. assignments are more exciting and interesting than most rws classes.
Easy going teacher.Half of the class was never there, people were always late(she never cared).Lets you make up one essay. Very nice woman, visit her office hours for editing of papers before they are due, you will get better grades. Attendance effects your grade, I got a B+ cause I was never there.
She is such an awesome teacher. It is really easy class. She is really helpful and funny.
this english class was great, she was really helpful and the papers were pretty easy. her comments on essays will help you become a better writer on future essays. take her if you want a cool and easy RWS teacher.
She's such a hippie :). She's fun and easy to talk to. She'll still let you turn in your work even if it's late cause you didn't go to class. You'll earn what you deserve.
very nice and helpful! i hate writing and she makes it so much easier! so easygoing. i would recommend her to anyone
By far my nicest professor. She is very helpful, too. I learned a lot in her class. I would recommend her to anyone!
Professor Hughes is awesome. She is a great teacher and her class isn't bad at all. I definitely recommend her for rws 200.
her class is easy, 2 essays, one group essay, and 2 group presentations...but theyre really easy...
She is a great professor, really cares about her students sucess. She is always there to help. Easy class.
WOW! everthing a SDSU teacher should be. Shes clear, to the point, tells you what she wants, and open to discuss your work. As long as you do the work (only 5 projects) theres no reason you should get anything less than a B. Take her!
Super easy class! There are 4 projects, and a 5-10 min. group presenation that is the final. Take her if you can. She is very laid back. She makes time for conferences so that she can check your work before you turn it in. During conference week there is no class! If you are taking hard classes then you should take this one too b/c its an easy A!
She's such a great teacher! straight to the point and grades fairly. doesn't take attendance and is very laid back! She's cool and makes good use of class time with activities that actually help the students with essays!
Great, easy teacher. Short, Sweet, straight-to-the-point class with ONLY 4 projects, and she gives plenty of time to do each, with a great amount of instruction, if you Want. I Definitely recommend this class to anyone who's taking RWS.
ok first off yes she was easy but wow what a B****. She is beyond liberal... and im very liberal but could barely stand her. In class, if you dont say exactly what she wants to hear then she will make you feel like an idiot. She laughs at students and makes fun of them... absolutly ridiculous for a professor... only take her if there's no one else.
Very liberal!!!..if your anything else she will tear apart your opinion..wasn't too hard but she was very unclear about her assignments.
Laid back teacher, cancels a bunch of days to come. Maybe it's just me but I had trouble fitting her criteria when it came to writing, so I always had to ask her questions before turning in essays (4). In the end, you'll get an A if you let her edit your rough drafts. Not much room for improvement in the long run of English, though. She likes rap.
Chill...just go to class and get to know her system. If you don't get something or are having problems with an essay, ask and I promise you'll get an A...
If you do the work you will be rewarded. The context of her class is varied, as in the material you will be reading. She is a great teacher and cares about how you do. Take her you will liker as I did, despite her political views.
You don't really need to show up because all the assignments are up on Blackboard, but there is a lot of group work. 4 projects that seem hard, but she is not that hard of a grader.
This professor is GREAT. She doesn't count attendance but there are always class assignments so not going to class will lower your grade ultimately. I'm taking her again for RWS 305 this summer and I look forward to it. Her class makes you wonder why all the other professors have sticks up their butts.
Great teacher!!! She thinks on the same level of her students and is extremely helpful. Just do all of the work and you will be fine.
ok professor overall. doesn't explain the essays very well...just reads off the prompt. very down to earth though.
Shes a good teacher, but just isnt very clear in what she wants. She spends more time talking about what everyone did wrong instead of helping. But if you do your work you'll do fine in that class.
I did not like her at all. She was not helpful and very unclear. Attendance isn't mandatory but you lose points from in class assigments.. I would take a different teacher.
Most boring and unhelpful teacher ever. Do not take this teacher. Her grading scale is so inconsistent and she gives you nothing to work with.
she is not a very good teacher and is not that helpful, but if you do the assignments she gives you will get an A or B, she's not a hard grader.
Decent teacher. While attendence isn't mandatory its useful to show up. 4 projects (op-ed reply, resume/cover letter, mock newsletter, images of dissent paper) and a group presentation final (dissent paper from the above project)Projects have hard deadlines, all else is flexible. Follow guidelines and you'll easily pass
She isnt very clear on what exactly she expects but she's very nice and if you do your assignments right you'll get good grades. You should go to class because there's always in class assignments due. I'd take her again
Try your best to avoid this teacher. Grading is very inconsistent. I would defiantly choose another teacher.
Not the typical english teacher, quite unorganized but not at all demanding when it comes to dues dates on homework. make sure to turn papers in on time though. Get on her good side and be quiet in her class and you'll be fine.
she does not know what she is looking for in the papers, that is a mistery for her as well.she never tells you what she wants and she just bables about nothing also the tutor is useless it seems like they are not cordinated on the same level. avoid dont waste your time on assignments that dont have nothing in common.
SERIOUSLY! AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL TIMES!
I really liked this class. I do not like writing that much but all her projects were practical. Proj 1: Letter to the editor Proj 2: Resume and cover letter Proj 3: Newsletter and last of all Proj 4: group presentations. I love that her critiques are honest. If your project is crap, she's tell you.
this lady, do not take her! she doesn't know what she wants on the paper!
I do not know what these other people are talking about. She is a good teacher. You are in college and should at least be able to somewhat put sentences together. And if you read the prompts, its pretty clear what she wants in the essays. BOTTOM LINE: if you need to take 280 - take it with her.
I know other people have given Prof. Hughes not-so-great ratings, but she's an amazing professor. Some of the work can be tedious, but you'll see that it all pays off in your grades. I'm so so thankful that I took her for 280 (a class I was dreading)- She's extremely helpful, understanding, and has a great sense of humor. Definitely take her!!!
She was very unorganized, did not know what she wanted on our papers, expected us to memorize tons of information in like 5 minutes and things were explained tooo stern, she came off really aggressive. would not reccomend taking her class. however, "Da Ali- G" show paper was pretty awesome!
not at easy as the others make it out to be. But still i definatley reccommend here for rws 305
Horrible Teacher, it's a rhetoric class but if you use rhetorical statements she wont give you a good grade. I got an A but had to cater all my papers to what she felt. If you don't make a statement crystal clear she wont understand and mark you off... easy class but a waste of life!
Hughes is a good teacher. As long as you know what you're doing, she will encourage you to have fun with your projects. It's a bit disheartening to get a B on a paper you feel deserved an A. She can be a bit tough like that. Still, if you gotta take RWS305, Hughes is a safe bet.
Took this class fall 2010. If you have ANY common sense, her class is a piece of cake! I did all the projects day they were due and ended up with a B in the class! We wrote a paper off of a southpark episode!! :D She always there and willing to answer questions! Don't listen to the people on this site too dumb to write a 3 page paper on their own.
Professor Hughes is not as horrible as they make her sounds. Yes the work is a bit annoying but she is very organized and lets you know what she will be doing in class. She provides you with a project outline and it helps if you miss class. She provides good feedback so go to her office hours if you need help. A lot of work but easy overall!
SHE IS HORRIBLE. I TOOK THE CLASS ONLINE AND SHE DOESN'T HELP WHAT SO EVER. I CAN'T STAND HER. I don't recommend her at all. She makes you feel sooooooo stupid when you talk to her. And she babbles on and on about pointless things instead of making it clear for the student.
As long as you do all the reading and come prepared to class it's pretty easy. Just a lot of busywork. She has a schedule and pretty much sticks to it religiously so she's reliable in that aspect. Not the most entertaining class but I think overall she's pretty solid.
She kinda has an attitude and during our conference she really got in my face im not gona lie. mainly cuz i wasnt showing up very often so i dont blame her but she tore me apart and it made me want to do better in her class. i like the topics she used tho especially all the Colbert clips. Just do the work and its an easy A (i managd a B w/lil effor
Layed back...chill professor...attend class and do your work...Easy A...I actually learned a lot of writing strategies that I found helpful...I would take her again any day...
She tries her best to make the assignments clear and simple. She is really helpful, friendly, and has a good sense of sarcasm. I would defiantly recommend her.
I took this class in my first semester in college (summer). she was really helpful, and always trying to be clear. She might get off topics few times. She also tends to talk to herself often, which is kind of funny. She might be sarcastic with her answers to your questions, so be careful with what you ask. In over all, I really recommend her.
class was useless, but had to go to get points. Graded inconsistently & marked down for things she suggested to change. Got an A. hated this class. 5 projects, one is a research-type paper 4 pages, not that hard but didn't like her way of grading. Take someone else.
She never had class and when she did students had to present lectures. Grades inconsistent, not helpful, and students taught each other. Take someone else.
This class is fairly easy. You are bound to get good grades on papers if you follow what she says when you meet with her. She is very helpful in conferences. She only has 4 projects. I recommend taking her
GROUP PROJECTS. This lady is really bad at giving constructive criticism and really critiques but never tells you what you're doing right. Just do the assignments the way she likes and wants them (she gives no room for interpretation) and you'll do great. She always has to find something wrong with what you're doing.
Basic writing class with more of a business mindset.
I was dreading taking 305W, but Professor Hughes made the class fun! No typical essays. 5 projects including a social media timeline assignment, cover letter/resume, and powerpoint design. No tests or textbooks in the online section, and lectures were short. Great feedback despite online setting. Super nice and willing to help.
If you like to do group projects take her. I hated every minute of this class. One digital fact sheet, resume, LinkedIn profile, business proposal, and a presentation. BORING class, waste of time. Just do the work the way she tells you to and you'll get your B+/A. For real, annoying group work every class. Also, she takes attendance for points.
Prof Hughes is a very nice lady. She truly cares about her students. But that doesn't change the fact that she is a really tough grader. Her due dates for assignments and hw are clearly stated in the schedule and she won't remind you so if you forget then you're out of luck. Lots of group work so you never fall asleep in class which is nice.
Loved Professor Hughes. Took her for RWS290 and had an interactive classroom. We did group work in every class, proofread papers and other projects. Katie would help you out and tell you exactly what to work on.V little hw Was put into her class by random & it ended up being my favorite class and professor I've taken at State. Love you Katie.
I feel like I never had to do much work in this class, and yet I did learn some very useful things. Various short projects along with a final group project and presentation. Lots of collaboration, minimal reading, helpful feedback.
I talked to a lot of people who took rws305, and I haven't heard from anyone who had as much work as this class. Much of it was very useful and geared towards a career: a resume and LinkedIn assignment. But there was also a group project which was not easy since this was an online class and we were supposed to just communicate online.
Not particularly difficult, but she assigns so much busy work that the sheer volume makes it hard to get an A in her class. Erratic due dates, and beware a group project at the end. Her feedback is useful and there are some good skills covered in the resume portion. Take this for Cr/Ncr if you can.
Professor Hughes is a very straightforward, kind, and cares about the success and understanding of her students. If you are considering taking RWS 290, take her. All of the work done is done online and very useful business writing activities like writing company memos, thank you letters, apology letters, amongst other useful things. GREAT CLASS!!!
Hughes should be an easy A, but you won't really learn anything meaningful. When your doing assignments it has to be exactly how she likes it or she'll tear you apart. I don't think she has the best judgment when it comes to some of the concepts she teaches, but she lays everything pretty clear and work is minimal. Not a class you'll worry about.
This class was very easy and she gives straightforward feedback. Most of the assignments though u just feel like u are making things up so it can be applicable to a business setting.
Professor Hughes is amazing! Very easy course and an easy A if you do every assignment. Shes not a tough grader if you follow directions. Its kind of hard not to follow directions because she provides alotttt of helpful videos. Trust me, its a very easy and no stress class thatll help you in the future!
Prof Hughes is great at what she does. She has a simple outline, straight forward instructions. Do the work and youll pass. Ive learned a lot in this class surprisingly. Shes also super nice and answers emails promptly! Thats great in an online course. Overall, I would definitely recommend her class to anyone
Every time I felt that I did great on my assignments, but I couldn't get an A in any of them. She is very tough in grading. Her zoom lectures were very good.
Be ready to write. This professor does make you write a lot but it really helps improve your writing skills. She provides a syllabus and follows it to a T. There are three assignments and one group projects, which is super easy. She does respond to emails fast. The lecture videos are recorded for people that did not show up.
Supposed to be easy but grades harder than any of my writing classes. If you don't do it her way your grade would suffer. Sounds mean and she is not an understanding professor.
The work in this class is not necessarily hard, but instructions arent exactly clear. She does provide feedback but can come off a bit rude which doesnt seem necessary. She is very responsive and I believe she wants her students to do well. Just be proactive with obtaining clarification on any instructions that arent clear & you should be okay.
A lot of work and a lot of writing. She also says what she wants no manners very mean. Gives you tons of work and expects you to do them all the way she wants you to do it. I f you do not do it the way she wants them even if they are wrong you will gets no points. Not recommended
This class is easier than other RWS courses but still a good amount of work. Lots of the assignments are group projects and the rest are short individual papers. If you watch the recorded lectures and work well with your group you will get an A.
This class is an easy A. 3 "papers" that are really short, then you work with a group for a couple of assignments and for a final presentation (also really easy). If you follow the rubrics you should get an A in every assignment. Overall she's a pretty average professor, but the class itself is easy.
% Very sweet, helpful, sarcastic, understanding. 85% of assignments are in groups, CHOOSE WISELY. VERY HELPFUL class, no essays. Teaches helpful content for future. 1 presentation at end, no tests. Easy reflection paragraphs. Work on google docs all semester. 90% of work is in class in group.
Honestly an easy class. Do the bare minimum and you can still get a B. No tests, 1 group project that's easy. Write a resume, and a linked in summary. I spend about 20min a week on this class. Easy A take her!
Hughes will come to class with a bone to pick with you and make it very clear. She is very passive-aggressive and nothing seems to satisfy her. Enjoyed a group-work centralized class and was overall very easy to pass.
4 lectures that were not mandatory. 4 projects due throughout the semester in addition to some journal responses, videos, and quizzes. The workload is not bad at all, unless you wait until the last minute for the projects. Worst thing about the class was the group project at the end, which still was not too bad. One of the better RWS-305W choices.
Had to take the class because I got an 8 on the writing test. It was an online class so never met her but we did group assignments and it doesn't always work out with other students. 6 week summer class.
Professor Hughes is alright, her class is straightforward and easy, but she can be a tough grader. A lot of times we would ask for help or advice and she would say everything looks good and then dock us on the assignment without giving reason. Make sure you get a good group for projects at the beginning of the semester.
This class is easy, just make sure you do the homework and come to class. She can be a little harsh when looking over your work, but it is ok.
I would recommend this professor for anyone needing to take RWS 290. Little homework, small helpful writing assignments and one final group project worked on in class. She gives good feedback in class and overall makes it easy to get a good grade and succeed
There's a good amount of work in this class, but most of it is done in class. There are plenty of assignments that are easy to get full credit to make up for other assignments. Somewhat of a tough grader, but she cares about effort. If you listen to what she asks for and try you'll do great. I truly enjoyed this class and highly recommend.
Sweetest professor ever! I loved taking this course with her and it was very simple, straightforward, and easy. The majority of the semester was a group project where you build your own business (mission statement, vision statement, business plan, and proposal presentation). Very easy class and an amazing teacher who cares about your success.
Favorite class I've taken at SDSU. Class consist of mostly group projects with some individual easy assignments done on the side (reading short articles and writing a resume). This class is very helpful and fun. As long as you choose a good group to work with you should enjoy your time in this class. Final group presentation. Definitely recommend!
Loved professor Hughes! She did give a lot of mini assignments, but they didn't take too long. Only thing I would say is that she is kind of a tough grader, but at the same time she very clearly lays out instructions so unless you go against her specific instructions, you should be fine. Group project that you have lots of time to complete. 5/5!!!
Feedback isn't very helpful even in her recorded lectures for peer reviews. To keep it short, group work is annoying but with her it's almost unbearable like a micromanager. Knit picky when her instructions are rarely ever clear, others feel the same. She'll accuse you of something and diss you on canvas. Wish I could say more, loathe this course..
The professor's instructions are unclear with every assignment. She is a tough grader with minimal feedback, so you are unsure of why you got the grade that you did. The overall class was not too difficult, but I did not like how this professor presented and directed this course.
Pretty simple class, a lot of small assignments and quizzes but not hard at all. No tests, only projects. One of the easier classes I have taken so far. Professor is very nice and clear about what she wants, although does have an unusual obsession with AI. Easier class with not a huge workload.
Professor can be easy going, sometimes she'll say your work looks good but then grade it a little harshly after. There are small assignments and reading quizzes, but those are all really easy. Honestly, not much work to do outside of class, it mainly occurs in class with your groups. Very easy-going and insightful class for business writing.
Professor Hughes was a great professor. Created a great class environment, was really fun to be in. Quizzes and tests weren't too hard at all, didn't even need to study. Overall, recommend taking 100%
