Homework is online and incredibly helpful to understanding the concepts learned in lectures. Tests mimic the practice exams posted online. Lots of extra credit offered. Lecture slides posted on Blackboard. Attendance and participation not mandatory. No textbook needed, but access code is expensive.
Awesome teacher. Will explain until you get it. All homework is online, offers extra credit on tests. Practice test and real test look identical in format. I would definitely recommend her.
Professor Rafferty is an excellent math teacher; and this is coming from a person who struggled in math all throughout high school. She is very nice and makes sure you understand what she's teaching. Everything she teaches are on test and quizzes, so you never have to worry about "surprises" or anything too difficult. I would highly recommend.
She's such a nice lady. If you're a visual learner i highly recommend. I was never really good at math but this is the easiest math class I've ever been in. All you have to do is pay attention in class and do the homework and you'll get an A. I had to take this with SI which is extremely unnecessary but it helps if you're bad at a certain chapter.
She is very nice! She explains things well and will help when you need it. The study guide and test is identical and she gives the answers to the study guide. If you attend every class you get 12 extra points on the final. She also sends the powerpoints for the lecture so you can go back in case you missed anything.
Her class is impossible to stay awake during. She reads straight off of the PowerPoints which are 95% example problems that she doesn't really explain, just clicks through. Tests aren't bad, but there is 4 tests and 4 quizzes throughout the semester, not counting the final.
I am the kid who sucks at math. She has to be by far my favorite teacher at ODU. Her lectures can be long, but she provides alot of examples to the problems she presents. Her practice tests are extremly helpful, do them and you will do well on the tests.
I love this teacher so much. She is really nice and is always willing to help anyone who asks for it. Her class is not that hard but it will get confusing if you skip class. Attendance is not mandatory and she offers extra credit on her tests. Also, her practice tests are extremely similar to her real tests. Would definitely take her again!
I love her so much! Professor Rafferty made statistics easy and fun. She is great if you are a visual learner because she works all examples out on the whiteboard. Easy A if you attend class and do the reviews before the test.
Professor Rafferty was youthful and cheerful. She was easy to understand and covered the course material at a fair pace. She instructs using PP while using the whiteboard to further demonstrate solving problems. Make sure to ask questions if you do not understand the material. She will go over more examples if needed.
Shes very clear during lecture takes time on the material and is willing to answer any and all questions that you have for her....I had to drop previous teachers because of there teaching methods but because of her I have an A
11 homework assignments the entire semester. She's not a difficult teacher. Test are easy if you study and review. She gives test study guides and they are very similar, so if you are able to complete them you will excel. Coming to class will help your grade as far as with understanding. Tutoring is offered for the course. Math is my weak subject.
I love, love, love Prof Rafferty! Attendance wasn't mandatory, but being in class definitely helped me understand the material more. There weren't any dumb questions - she always took the time to explain if anyone was confused. The textbook wasn't needed, but the access code was to do the homework. The study guides are exactly like the tests.
she explains things very well and will answer your questions. the only homework is online and is easy to get done but might take awhile. her study guides for test literally match what will be on the test
She's so sweet, always comes in with a good attitude, and encourages any questions you may have. She doesn't rush through the lessons, and she makes sure she does plenty of examples so all the students will understand. Her study guides are literally EXACTLY like the test and she gives up to 12 extra credit points on the final for good attendance.
Loved this class! Rafferty is very clear and straightforward. She is not one to throw curve balls or trick questions. She gives enough homework to get practice with the material, but not an excessive amount. She gives practice tests that are very similar to the tests. Easy A if you show up, pay attention, and do the assignments. Highly recommend!
Professor Rafferty's the sweetest math professor I've ever had. She's passionate about math, yet doesn't overwhelm those who aren't. She constantly encourages students to ask questions and she explains the material in a way that makes it easy to understand. 3 exams, 1 final, a bunch of homework via mystatlab. No textbook needed- only access code.
Professor Rafferty is nothing short of phenomenal. She actually cares about you and wants you to pass! Her grading is clear and lectures become interesting when you participate. I recommend attending every class especially if you're not good at math. It'll be worth going in the end. Easy A if you just focus
Katie is truly amazing! She is so accessable outside f class and TRULY cares for her students. As long as you come to class and put the work in you will pass. She doesnt have a text book but be prepared to pay $110.00 for the mymathlab access code. Yes, you MUST buy it because that is how you do your homework. Overall, amazing professor.
I had her for my summer class and I had a great time. I passed with a b and I defintely work d for it. She answers all of the questions you ask and is very caring as well.
Katie has a way of making Algebra seem easy. She uses different methods of explaining the content and makes sure everyone is on the same page before we move on. She cares about her students, providing plenty of extra credit for anyone that falls behind and open office hours for private tutoring. She's one of the good ones for sure!
she is super sweet and gives ton of partial credit
I took Stats with a different professor and failed the class last year. Had I had her last semester I would have gotten an A. She does lots of examples of the problems in class and will help if you ask for help. She's the best math teacher I have had at ODU by far. Just do the homework and be there for class even though attendance is optional.
GREAT PROFESSOR, she assigns 13 my math labs, 4 quizzes, 4 test, you have to go to SI, 1 final exam and 12 extra credit points added on to your final if you don't miss a class. Every time you miss a class your 12 point extra credit is deducted 2 points. Her studyguides for the test are literaly the test, in the same exact order, just different #'s.
I took her for statistics. She's awesome! Attendance wasn't required but I recommend going especially if you're not great at math. She works through examples of everything. You don't need a book and there were only about 10 hw assignments online (mystatlab), 3 tests, and the final. She gives partial credit. If you don't pass you didn't even try.
She's a sweetheart and always very welcoming of questions and makes the environment enjoyable to learn the subject. She doesn't make statistic stressful and goes at a pace where everyone can be comfortable. Her ppts are clear and her tests reflect her ppts. Would recommend to anyone, especially if math isn't your strongest
Professor Rafferty is very caring. Her class isn't so hard, but if you're not good at stats, you will struggle. She is willing to work with you during her office hours. She has three exams and the final which is cumulative. She also does mystatlab which is VERY important to do. She does lecture heavy, so going to class is important.
If you have to take stats, this is the teacher you want. She is worth waiting for if you have the time to wait . She's not easy but your major requires this class for a reason. Learn what you can. Ask your questions. Discover why class is required. She will allow you to come back after the class and help strengthen future papers. APPROACHABLE!!
Mrs. Rafferty is a great teacher, the class is pretty easy. The only bad thing is she teaches you to do everything without a calculator so it takes a while to do. Class is not mandatory but it will help. homework is due almost every week. good teacher, but a little bit of work
Dont do it, very fast paced class. No extra credit. Walks up and down the isles while students are taking the test. Not good for students with anxiety.
Professor Rafferty is not a good Algebra teacher to take, she just reads off the powerpoint she made and you will not learn anything in class. Maybe that is why the class was not mandatory to go to. If you have an option for another professor, take them instead.
Professor Rafferty gives you all of the materials needed to pass the course. She provides study guides that are exactly like the tests. All homework is on mystatlab though so you will need to purchase a code. If you do the study guides, attend class, and do your homework, it's almost impossible to fail.
Professor Rafferty is hands down THE best math teacher I have EVER had. All my life I have struggled with math, especially Algebra, but the way she teaches makes it so easy to understand and actually stick! I wish she taught more classes because I would take her for anything! Best teacher ever. If you struggle at all with math I would take her!
She's an excellent teacher. While it is true she does use PowerPoints, she pauses to ask if everyone understands... If you remain silent and don't understand thats YOUR problem. She isn't psychic. She is very understanding and willing to meet with students to work extra time on practice. I'd take her for all my math classes if I could.
Great teacher, powerpoints are long but thorough, and she's super sweet! Homework assignments can take a lil while to complete, but they're not hard. If you do your homework, ask questions and go to class, YOU WILL PASS.
this was my second time taking this class for grade forgiveness and i LOVED her! she was very helpful and very sweet. you have about 10 homework assignments and 4-5 exams. she explains what she is doing in the problem and why. i HATE math but she made this class very enjoyable and i ended the class with a B+! she replaces your worst grade.
Math is my worst subject, but she made it easy. USE HER OFFICE HOURS! If you don't understand something she tries her best to help you understand, I attended her office hours about every day. I could not have passed this course without her. She is one of the best professors. There was one con, I had a 79 after the final, she does NOT round up ever.
She explains everything step by step and makes sure everyone understands before moving forward. There is homework but it's very manageable and her tests are just the same. She's super easy to reach out to and an overall great professor.
Loved her! She makes statistics so much easier to understand. 4 Tests, 16 StatLabs, and a final exam. Tests are identical to the study guides she posts. HWs are super easy if you follow along w/ the ppts or "Help Me Solve This." Final is not optional and replaces lowest test score. She posts all ppts on blackboard, but you learn the most in class.
Great professor! She is very nice and caring. I was terrified because I am horrible at math and I needed an A in the class because Im a nursing major. She is great at explaining and will help you if you dont understand anything. Complete all the homeworks and do decent on the tests and you will get an A. She makes study guides for each test!
Sign up for her class! She is an excellent professor and truly cares about her students. You will have regular online homeworks that are actually helpful to your learning. There are also 5 exams (four regular exams, 1 final) and if you come to class and do her study guides you WILL pass.
A great professior for Pre-Calc I. Very caring and takes the time to show you the steps of any topic. Assignments are minimal(5-10 Q's) but due every week, if you stick onto a routine you should be fine for this class. Good for people that needs a refresher for Alge. but please take the time to study if math is not for you.
This was my favorite teacher this year! She makes such a boring subject easy to learn and even interesting. Whenever I had trouble throughout the year she was always eager to help and genuinely wanted everyone to succeed. She is quick to respond to email as well which is always a plus!
Professor Rafferty is the best math professor I have ever had! She is very caring about her students and does not assign tons of tedious hw. She has great communication and is great during instruction. I have never felt this confident in a math class! I HIGHLY recommend.
By far the best math teacher I have ever had. She made stats very easy when it is a difficult subject to learn. Her lectures are very informing and are easy to follow, and the homework she assigns isnt time consuming like most math courses. She cares about her students and really wants them to do well.
Teaches the class very well. Makes statistics a lot easier to take. I only got a C in her class because I had a pet pass away and I missed an entire week of class because of it and bombed the test for that period. She makes it clear she wants to help so take advantage of that because I didn't when I should've. Also, practice test really can help.
She is such a great teacher! I had stats in person but attended online, she gave great lectures with plenty of examples for questions. The tests are pretty easy if you do the practice questions that she posts each unit.
Professor Rafferty is a great professor. She does a great job of explaining each topic and the reasoning behind it. She makes it easy to understand, even if you are not a math/stat person like me. Her class is an easy A. I strongly recommend taking her if you can.
A genuine professor that wants to make sure students succeed in her class. She answers any questions students have, is very accessible outside of class if needed, has made the online transition very easy, and gives out the necessary amount of homework to ensure you know the topic. I highly suggest her class.
She's a great professor and is very accessible out of class. I can say that she truly cares about her students understanding the material! Great professor!
She clearly cares about the sucess of her students, she made it really easy to succeed in. Shes clear on where you're points off comes and gives examples in class just as her tests show. My only complaint would be that i had more small inconvenient HW in this class than any other class on pearson.
I have had Professor Rafferty twice now and I would take her for all of my future statistics classes if I could. She cares so much about the success of her students and is willing to help whenever you need it. The homework assigned is small, but very beneficial for practice and repetition. Her lectures also include several examples for each topic.
She's a fantastic professor. Pay attention in class and do the homeworks well. She truly cares for the students and is very helpful during office hours. She doesn't mind staying even overtime for office hours. Final exam was very hard because it was comprehensive, so keep practicing everything. Overall, a fairly tough class but perfect professor.
Rafferty is such an amazing professor. Her lectures were always amazing and she made sure to go into depth of each topic. She was also super organized and we had a quiz like every 2-3 weeks. Barely any homework, just make sure you come to class!
Great professor. Do what you got to do, complete your assignments, and you will do great. It is easy probably because I am a math major, but I am sure you will do great too.
She was amazing! I would definitely recommend her for any stat class. She gives detailed examples during lectures with questions similar to what is on the homework and provides practice tests and answer keys with questions similar to the tests so we can prepare. You get to use an index card with formulas on each test and four on the final.
Very respectable. Gives a decent amount of homework. She posts the notes online but w/o it worked out. She works out the examples in class and will answer any questions so you can't go wrong taking this class. The tests combine a lot of material, so I recommend reviewing periodically. 3 tests and then a final.
Loved her. Couldn't recommend her enough. She is caring and will def do what she can to help. 4 (final cumulative) exams, stat lab hw, and hand-in assignments. You are allowed a written notecard for each exam.
I don't know if its because this course was taught online or what, but it was extremely challenging. The homework can feel a bit overwhelming if you did not understand the section. But. the tests were so much easier than the homework and practice examples. If you can understand that then you'll pass the tests easy.
Her lectures are easily understandable. The homework is great and based off of the lecture. Her study guides help so much with the test and the test is also based off the lecture and homework.
She is great! This was my first A in a math class, ever. I heard horror stories about statistics, but Prof. Rafferty taught in a way that it made sense and was understandable. The study guides for tests are amazing and will get you well prepared. Attend lecture and follow along and write down her notes!! Make sure you do that, you will get an A.
Great professor! She explains and breaks down everything very well! If I didn't miss 3 to 4 class I truly believe I would have had an A. So, if you miss class make sure you get the notes from someone. The homework and quizzes really help you understand the materials but, it is easy to fall behind on them. She also loves when people ask questions.
She was a lovely professor, very open to the class and willing to adapt for students to meet them after class. Never made anyone feel like they couldn't ask a question and encouraged a very interactive class, she was happy to rexplain things in the lecture as well. She also was very helpful for outside resources for the class
Great professor w/well outlined course. Use the notes she provides and LISTEN during lecture. Online homework based on completion, repeat till you get a 100%. Allows cheatsheet card for each test. I have really enjoyed her class and she is willing to help and explain. Uses the entire class time to lecture so pay attention to understand the material
Great lecturer, welcomes questions and will explain things until understood. Many homework assignments on mystatlab but you can turn them in late for 20% taken off until end of semester. Allows 4x6 notecard cheat sheet for tests. Print out guided notes, will save lots of time in lecture. Pay attention and ask questions.
Her lectures were information-packed. Missing even 1 lecture put you behind a good amount. Homework and tests are straightforward.
Stats is hard, but she is an amazing professor!!! Go to class and actually study and you will do fine!!! HW is unlimited tries. She doesn't post the materials so YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS TO PASS!!!
Professor Rafferty is a pretty good teacher. She has a very warming personality and she's very upbeat, but she does not like when you are having side conversations in her class. She is by the books type of teacher, but she does extensive lectures. She really goes in detail with her lectures. Now her as a teacher she is pretty cool. Highly recommend
Clear communicator, works lots of examples, encourages questions. I was not a fan of having to store my personal belongings at the front of the class during tests. I understand why she does this but it still feels infantilizing.
Professor Rafferty was an amazing professor! Her lectures are very important, and they tend to be very note-heavy, however, that's just the nature of the class. She always seems enthusiastic about teaching. If you come to her lectures and do the review she posts, you'll do well in this class.
If you didn't go to the lecture, you'd be in some trouble with the material, but she was very helpful in getting the materials missed if necessary. She does lots of examples and does explain things.
Professor Rafferty refuses to help students other than teaching them material. She is good at giving material out that you should know for tests but is very hard on grading when it comes to understanding the student. I will retake this same class because she refused to help me move my grade up .87th of a % to make a C instead of getting a C-
lots of lectures, but I found the class easy since I've taken something similar before. there are a lot of lectures, but she is very nice and the math lab assignments can boost your grade
Professor Rafferty is simply amazing. I would definitely try to take as many math/statistic courses with her as you can. She does an incredible job at explaining material. Her notes are organized and to the point. All practice exams are super helpful for the actual exams. If you can complete the practice test, you will ace the actual one.
Do NOT take online. She only provides heavy notes so it is hard to really learn. There are no lecture videos actually explaining how to do the problems. It is just a bunch of words. The practice tests are nothing like the tests at all.
Professor Rafferty really helped me understand math topics that I had struggled with before. She explains each topic well and provides different ways to solve problems. Just make sure to come to class because her class is lecture heavy and you could miss a lot of material if you miss class.
Amazing lectures, class is just very hard and if you miss a day, you miss a chapter. Test will literally be the decipher of your grade. Don't get behind and you will be okay.
If you stay on top of homework and follow the exam reviews you will get an A. There is extra credit for doing extra assignments. Lectures are clear and information is easy to follow and understand.
Professor Rafferty is great, only reason I did not give her 5 stars is because her ridiculous deadlines for quizzes and HW. Quiz will be opened up one day and due the next, instead of by Sunday at 11:59 like every other professor ever. HW will be due by the beginning of the next class instead of the end of the week. Aside from that she is amazing.
*102M* Professor Rafferty is great. Notes are literally lined out for you, and the class is structured so that you cant not succeed.
She expects for you to dedicate 5-12 hours PER MODULE per her syllabus. "Students are expected to spend between 5-12 hours per module on the course materials and assignments." I'm 35, I work full time, go to school full time and have a family. She's the reason people feel "college educated" is laughable.
(102M) she has fill in the blank notes that you can print out, which I loved because it's fast paced. She thoroughly explains any questions you have with examples. Definitely an easy A!
This class was very easy for me b/c I have taken two statistics classes before in high school. If you have no prior experience, I'd recommend taking it in person b/c a lot of my classmates were struggling. Grade was comprised of hw, 3 tests, and a final (we had extra credit discussion boards). She's very nice and responds to messages quickly.
