Absolute worst prof ever. Unsympathetic to students and unclear with instructions. Reviews are nothing like the test, and she does not want to help you. When I went to her and asked for help, she told me that I just have to retake the class because she did not want to help me
fair grader, reasonable difficulty, honestly much better than any other precal profs at blinn. Do the hw and quizzes and reviews and youll pass. she'll say this a lot but the quizzes are very very similar to the tests so do those and you'll be just fine.
She is awful at teaching, just runs through notes with no explanation of what is actually happening. She also made us learn an entire chapters-worth of notes in 2 days and then test. Her time management is horrible, and she obviously needs to go back to school.
Prof Switzer is one of the best math teachers Ive had. She is really good at explaining stuff and if you are still confused, she will help however she can in office hours. The homework is no more than any other class, and it is helpful in preparing for exams. Basically just show up, pay attention, and do the work and you should be fine.
Would definitely not recommend taking Switzer, she only cares about finishing the notes and not your understanding. Not a very good teacher and doesnt seem interested in helping her students
Prof Switzer doesn't explain anything she just runs through the notes and examples without explaining why she doing certain things and she just expects us to know and do the same. The reviews do help with the test but she grades pretty hard and any little mistake is points off and over the course of the test can hurt you pretty bad.
She doesnt explain anything. She just runs through the lectures with examples and expects us to understand what shes doing and why shes doing it. Theres alot of hw and quizzes but the the test are weighted so heavy that the hw and quiz grades barely do anything. And shes a hard grader taking points off for anything.
Our class moved online due to COVID. She gave tons of online quizzes with a lot of questions, which felt like busywork. The quizzes took hours. She lectures very fast so it was always hard to keep up in class. She is an extremely tough grader and will take off many points for a tiny mistake. We had subs that taught better than her. Do not take it.
Class was super easy before switching online because of COVID. Only complaint was she was horrible with technology and struggled doing her notes. Exams weren't too bad if you did the review. There were 2-4 quizzes each week and homework that was due before each test, about 5 questions each chapter. Content doesn't get that hard until the last unit.
No extra credit but hardly needed. The course packet helps A LOT. Her tests are based off of everything learned in class. She gives feedback in class about what you did wrong on quizzes and homework problems. Do the reviews and homeworks and youre grade should be well above passing.
Prof. Switzer did a great job transitioning the class online during COVID-19 and her teaching style is very simple, straight to the point. She answered all my questions and provided plenty of office hours. She made calculus easy to understand, I learned a lot, and she's the best calculus teacher I've had at Blinn!
Switzer was a great professor! I'm horrible at math and don't like it, but I really enjoyed her class. She made office hours really fun and was very patient with me. And she continued to answer our questions in online office hours after COVID happened. She did a great job transitioning to online. Reviews were just like the tests, very helpful!
This prof is pretty good, she can be a real stickler sometimes but for the most part not too bad. Go to her office hours and ask what might be on the test and she will hook you up greatly. I had her during quarantine so I only was face-to-face half the semester but she is a good professor that wants you to do well in the class
Theres homework every section but it only helps you. You have to work for your grade in this class just like any other class. Switching online during COVID sucked but she made life so much easier. She really cares about her students and always made herself available to help in any way that she could. Plus shes hilarious, that was an added bonus.
Take this professor!! She made understanding math so easy. You do have homework and quizzes but they prepare you for the test SO well. She is so helpful and really does care. Notes are never longer than an hour and once your done your homeworks and quizzes will be so easy. She always answers emails fast and will work out any problem you struggle
Requires SO MUCH on proctored online test. Show your work to every question on your whiteboard then hold ur small whiteboard up to camera to show work. No work, automatic 0. Show your workspace, show under your table, watches all proctor sessions. Lots of work and barely teaches so it is a self taught course. Do not recommend.
She was awesome in my opinion, extremely helpful, and you can tell she really wants to see her students succeed. She was also very willing to help outside of class and her office hours were very good and informative. I would definitely take another class with Prof. Switzer.
Gives insanely hard tests that only have around 8-10 questions, and then proceeds to not give any credit for work if the answer is wrong. Shows no mercy, expects perfection when not always possible. You could be in a coma and she wouldn't hesitate to give you zeroes on a missed assignment; even if the mymathlab isn't working.
She doesn't teach on zoom or online so it's up to you to watch her lectures which I wasn't really a fan of. The lectures are also pretty lengthy and sometimes there was 4 just for one lesson. She's also super strict about proctoring, but I can understand that.
Professor Switzer is a great option for taking Calculus online. She is very understanding and will help you with any questions you may have in her class. Attendance is not mandatory but has its perks, she will help you with questions that will be on the upcoming exams. One downside is that she grades exam work very strict.
By far one of the worst profs Ive had.
By far the worst professor I've had. She is rude and has no mercy. I took her class during covid and signed up for a blended course. It was ALL online. I failed her class with a 68.5, but received a B+ and A's in my other classes. When asked to start doing regular zoom meetings from the entire class, she refused. If you want to pass don't take her.
Wonderful teacher always there to help no matter what. I was one of two people that went to the non mandatory online classes and she always showed up and even stayed late to help because she cared and made sure everyone understood everything.
Where do I Start? Professor Switzer is absolutely horrible. This Professor will tell you not to show up to class unless you have questions, she takes attendance by if you complete your work or not and the worse part is if you ask her to do a live lecture she'll threaten you with an incivility report. Lastly, She doesn't bump I had a 79 in her class
She's literally a high school teacher. Takes away phones, and if you're done with everything before class time is over, there's no leaving... Also, never answered emails in a timely manner. Good luck.
Enjoyed putting as much work into this class as I had to. Since I was already familiar with most of the material being taught it was nice not having to show up to class. I understand why a lot of my classmates disliked her methods so I recommend her if you're just here for the credit and find math comes relatively easy.
so much homework to the point you just care about getting a decent grade on, and dont actually learn nor grasp material. Very rude... and proctored exams? yes every exam is proctored. She watches the recordings. If u dont show ur work on camera, its a 0 for the test as well as under ur desk before starting exam. Ridiculously strict.
If you watch her lecture videos, go to class and ask questions, youll make the grade you want. Just show up, do the work, put in a little effort and youll be fine.
She was a wonderful teacher! I made C's in all my high school math classes but made a A+ in her calculus class. She is able to teach subjects several different ways and has no problem doing problems from the homework or quizzes. If you put in the work, she will do everything she can to make you succeed.
She gives you a lot of work but not too much to handle. Her tests are super hard. I had an A in all other categories but tests I kept barely failing and my grade suffered. She doesnt allow make-up work and is not willing to work with you. She is very rude and if you ask her a question dont expect her to help you out.
She seems to not care about her students or their grades. Comes off very harsh at times and goes extremely fast while doing notes/examples. Tests are so difficult it's almost like she wants you to fail.
She was a great professor er! She was very helpful on the test reviews to prepare for the tests! Also her lectures were amazing, i really learned how to do it! She knows what she is doing!
Switzer provides a note packet at the beginning of the course ($20) which helped me with note taking. She is very quick and to the point. The questions on the notes/quizzes/reviews are going to be exact if not similar to what's on exams, be sure to study how she solves problems because she grades exams based on if you did the same process.
Excellent choice for math prof. Shes fast but clear and concise. Lots of strategies she teaches is all you need to know. Basically barney styles what comes off as intimidating math. I would continue to take her for upper level math classes but blinn fails to ever keep my schedule the same.
She was an amazing teacher who made her lectures very clear. She would have review days right before major exams, and they would be the exact questions on the exam just with different numbers. Very easy if you apply yourself and pay attention.
Professor Switzer was by far the best math teacher I have ever had. She can come off as very harsh, but study the material she gives you and you're guaranteed to do good. Most students don't like her because she can be very blunt, but she teaches the material very well and prepares you super well for all tests.
Professor Switzer is very clear with the lessons and how she wants her classroom run. She made the class more simple than expected. If you don't finish your work on time you should not take this class, she does not take any excuses for late work but the work load isn't bad.
Prof Switzer is absolutely amazing. Lectures are watched at home, however, they can be tedious. She is a very visual teacher and teaches shortcuts to problems. Practice quizzes are done every single class with a group. Exams are exactly like the practice quizzes with different numbers. Made a 100 on the final. BEST MATH PROFESSOR!!!
will NOT accept late work under ANY circumstance. pop quizzes about every single class, sometimes up to 3 pop quizzes a day. takes off unnecessary points on quizzes and exams... too strict and weird. she wears gloves and a mask & sats shes scared of covid, but wont let you join zoom even if you test positive for covid (talking from experience)
This class was supposed to be "traditional" in-person class. IT'S NOT. She doesn't teach one thing in class. Our class is just about 3 hours long and she makes you watch all lectures outside of class in your own time. Plus the huge amount of homework to go along with that. Every time you come to class you will have at least 3 quizzes or a test.
I had her for math 1324 as a 16-week, and loved having her! Although she isn't super relational on a personal level, she wants the best for all of her students. It isn't uncomfortable asking her questions, especially during quizzes which are almost all open note, and can be done with a partner. The final was super easy and replaced my lowest test.
The reason we had Switzer is because they switched our whole class from our good professor weeks into the semester. Katie made it very clear from the beginning that our class was going to get much more difficult than it was already supposed to be. She's a mediocre lecturer, an incredibly strict grader, and in generally not very nice or likeable.
Honestly a good professor, but probably not everyone's style. She has all her lectures recorded and posts them each week with guided notes to go with them. Class consists of 2-3 "quizzes" that you work through until you get a 100 and then you can leave, usually 1-2 hours early. She reviews for well tests but does grade hard on open response.
Overall great professor and teaches in a way that makes sense to math-friendly people and math-haters. Lots of independent studying, you have to show up to class to take the quizzes and do the assigned videos/homework to understand the course. Side note: STUDY THE QUIZZES!! Overall would take her course again!
The online lectures are a life saver because its great to go back and look at them.
Very specific and difficult on grading, and immediately decides if she hates you or likes you and never changes her mind.
In the beginning of the semester, I felt happy with my life. After this class, I am switching to liberal arts. I can not stress how much she does not like her job and she takes it out on her students. I took a test, and continuously took down points because she feels like it. I don't know what sin I have done to receive this teacher. DONT TAKE!!!!
I had her for my first year of college and if you're a math person then you're gonna love her. She teaches very CLEARLY. If you have a question or confuse about something GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS! She's very traditional when doing math and gives tips on understanding the concept. DONT MISS ANY LECTURES! She has set schedule for when hw and quiz due.
I am in the middle, She is a great teacher I learned so much in her lectures. Her homework is a bit much but it's GOOD practice. Her exam reviews help so much, basically exam questions with different numbers. The only annoying thing is how strict she is with grades on exams. But definitely a 5/5 teacher, Not an easy A prof but you WILL learn.
All of the notes are done on your own time, but you get to complete quizes with a group and you do them until you get a 100%. Such an easy class 10/10 recommend!
Professor Switzer is exceptionally picky about how she grades. Please ensure you do everything she says when handing out a quiz or test. If you want to get an A in this class, make sure you make no silly mistakes on quizzes because those grades add up. Overall, Professor Switzer is a great teacher, not the best grader, but will help you pass!
Katie Switzer was the best Calculus professor that I have had at Blinn College. She really makes sure that the students understand the material being taught. During exam review days, she went over what questions would be on the test but with different numbers. The exams were just like the review she created for us.
Bland person but an amazing professor. Very picky w grading. Ex: got a 78 on the 1st exam bc I was not showing every step, despite all answers being right! Learned from that and got As on all other exams by just showing every step, gets kinda annoying. Her reviews are literally the exam problems w diff numbers, memorize how to do every problem.
literally the best math prof i've had, made calc 3 super easy to understand. gives quizzes in class, so you need to be present, but they are super easy and open note. best test reviews without a doubt, and hw is pretty standard on pearson. still has lectures uploaded on ecampus so you look back if you miss smthn during lecture. would 100% recommend
You watch lectures and take notes prior to class. Then you take quizzes in class and she lets you do them till you get a 100. If you're not willing to put in the work to watch the lectures before class- this isn't for you. Mrs. Switzer has amazing lecture videos going to lengths to explain the reasoning behind everything she does. 10/10 recommend.
You watch lecture videos on your own time then class time is used to complete quizzes that are open note, with a group and you do it till you make a 100%. GO OVER THE QUIZZES BEFORE THE EXAM!!! Everything on the exam will be on the quizzes. I took this as an 8 week course, as long as you go to class and stay on top you'll do good. Take her!!!
BEST 1324 PROF! Id ignore these bad ratings bc ive never made an A+ in math or understood it in my life before this. In class you complete open note quizzes and you get to do them until you get a 100%. The test is exactly like the quizzes you work on in class so as long as you study those before exams youll be fine. TAKE HER!
The class is formatted to help you earn an A. Just watch the YouTube videos sent by the teacher.
This was one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She is the least comprehensive teacher. Very tough grader, deducts every possible point she can with the least of the mistakes you make in the test. Does not believe in curves, quizzes every class, tests are very hard. Doesn't accept late quizzes or late homework. Would not take her again NEVER!!
Great professor! Quizzes were just like the tests. Watch her videos outside of class and all the quizzes taken in class are open note. Her whole teaching style is set up to give you an A in the class
Ms. Switzer was a a great teacher. She does a flipped class instead so that you dont have to sit in a classroom for 3 hour periods. I struggled because I bombed one test and the tests are 60% of the grade. But as long as you watch the videos on your own and do homework you will have no problem.
She was honestly a great teacher. All notes and work is done outside of class and you take group quizzes every class. If you have the time to take this class I so recommend it. Overall it prob 2-3 hours outside of class a week and less than an hour of class. You can get a 100 on all quizzes and homework. Tests are relatively easy if you study.
Very nice professor. The way her class is set up is perfect. You take notes/do homework outside of class, and take quizzes (free 100s) and tests during class. Very fast pace, but very easy.
I don't like math but proffesor switzer made this class enjoyable. You need to attend every class to take quizzes and she clearly lays out what is due.
Lectures are online and quizzes/tests in person. That did not work with me personally, so I struggled in the class. Switzer is a great professor, just make sure you are aware of what learning style you are before you sign up for this class
Very nitpicky in lecture, explained to class "how to properly write X", showed how to do this AFTER an exam where she took off many points from multiple students for not writing Xs properly despite there not being conflict with other letters on this exam. Other than that, okay professor, mostly reasonable, just nitpicky.
Make sure u pay attentions for lecture no matter how boring they may be. She goes over questions that will be on the exam. She is a harsh grader, taking off points based on how you write certain numbers or even if u skip a small step. She "Grades as if she has never seen calculus before". Pretty dumb but the class is doable
She failed more than half her class on the first exam over GRAMMATICAL ERRORS, keep in mind it's a MATH CLASS! While taking the class I had learned loads of other ppl had dropped her cause her test were impossible (TRUE) She doesn't curve, give extra credit or replace exams with better ones. horrific teacher who seemed to hate life and us.
Half the class is failing due to too few equal signs. Missing class means an automatic fail for what you missed. Inconsistent grading, so old quizzes aren't useful for studying. Lectures are full of errors. No curve or extra credit, one quiz replacement. She encourages students to drop and makes passive-aggressive remarks about their intelligence.
While she is great at teaching the subject, her tests were weighted 60% of our grade and takes points off for the dumbest notation things such as how you write your fractions. You can get all the questions on the test right, but still fail it. Attendance is MANDATORY, you will fail if you don't show. No curves or extra credit. Half my class failed.
Professor Switzer clearly cares about her students, she posts all of the unit lectures online so you can go through them at your own pace then gives in class quizzes. She gives a couple easy bonus questions for each test and the quizzes are a huge help for test review. You do get out what you put into it and you can't skip days and expect an A.
Amazing professor. The lectures were online but often quick to complete. Attendance is mandatory, but all the "quizzes" given are done in groups (free 100s) and are exactly like the tests, making the tests incredibly easy. I struggle in math, but she has set up this class for your success. Not a stressful class.
Pretty easy class. She gave us video lecture notes to do at home and then we would take group quizzes in class so it was always an easy 100. and while she gives 0s if you miss class assignments, she drops the lowest 2 quiz grades. and as long as you understand the class quizzes you'll do well on the exams. the 3 hr class becomes like an hr class.
She was nice, but you ultimately have to teach yourself in this class. All her lectures are in videos, and you have to watch 3 hours' worth of videos every other day just to keep up. She also took no excuses for missing class, so attendance was mandatory if you wanted to make a good grade. She will make you put in the work to get the grade you want
She's super nice and clear on what it is you need to do. The issue I had was that she gives you 3 hours of online lectures you have to watch before class. You have to teach yourself the material and if you don't do good on one test, you're done for. If you like doing most everything online then this a perfect class. If you like lectures, don't take
Please DO NOT take this professor for any Mathematics Course. I took her for Calculus 2 (MATH 2414) this semester, and she refused to bump me to a B despite being only 2 points away from a B (79.5). All other professors at Blinn have a policy that the lowest exam grade gets replaced with the final exam grade. She does not care about your future.
Do not take this professor
Don't listen to the bad comments about her. Ms. Switzer, though having stubborn grading applications, is a good teacher that is clear on the expectations. The bad comments are from slackers who don't take her class seriously. If you try and do what she asks you will 100% get an A.
Okay, main thing is, this is a flipped classroom which I did not know going into this class and if i knew I probably wouldn't have taken it. But if you can keep up with watching the lectures then you'll be fine. She does grade pretty harshly on test for small things like notation issues though. Otherwise there are clear expectations. Go to class.
Shes a great teacher but doesn't want more people taking her class
refuses to teach lectures in class instead will assign lecture videos from 2020 to watch before class. expect to teach yourself anything as she will not.
I liked Mrs. Switzer as a teacher but she doesn't teach in class at all, all you come to do is quizzes/test than leave you have to do HW on your own time and study and watch material on your own time i struggled with this class because i'm a in person learner and she never taught anything in person all it was was multiple 40 min videos over 1 unit.
Professor Switzer is very kind and caring. Lectures are done outside of class and group quizzes are done inside of class. These quizzes aren't turned in until you receive a 100%. She is very helpful and gives you so many opportunities to succeed. I have little background knowledge on algebra and calc and i learned so much in her classes.
Switzer was great. For 1324, all the lectures are pre-recorded. Print the guided notes, watch the lectures, submit the easy My Math Lab homework, then attend class and use your notes on "quizzes." These quizzes are open note, and you work with a group; you literally can't leave class until you have a 100. Exams are closed note, study the quizzes.
Lectures are prerecorded, you watch them before coming to class where you do quizzes on the material. Tests are not handed back to see mistakes, and they are a big part of your grade. Tests are similar to the quizzes but again, if you mess one up your grade might be gone. Nice professor, hard class. 6/10
Not a bad prof, just different teaching style. She will help you if you ask for it. Don't get me wrong, the online videos are super annoying and repetitive. but just put them in 1.5x speed. All the bad reviews for this class are chumps who didn't study and grind. Your grade reflects how hard you work in this class. Not hard just requires effort.
I had her for an 8 week class. Her class was flipped so we would watch the lecture videos and then do group quizzes in class. The flipped classroom helped me understand the concepts by slowing video segments down. The homework is challenging but the tests are based on it but simplified. There is extra credit on every test besides the final.
