She begins each class by going over IN DETAIL how each and every lab is going to go and how to properly do each section. She has really high expectations of accuracy and application. She is incredibly sweet and approachable.
Dr. Binaku is one of the nicest teachers I have ever met. She goes over the lab in great detail and is so helpful when you are confused. Definitely the best lab teacher even though the TA's do all the grading. If I could pick her I definitely would for the next semester!
She is so helpful and answers all your questions. Her pre lecture is very clear and she is very understanding. The class itself is kind of difficult and stressful since you have to complete the labs within the time frame but she makes things easier to understand. Very sweet lady.
Easiest Chem prof. Took her over the summer. Only reason why I am still pre med. No way I would have gotten an A in chem 102 without her as my prof.
She's crystal clear in lecture, uses slideshows, then takes breaks to do practice problems. All the test questions came from the book, just changed the numbers. Made things managable. Perceptive to hearing the class opinion, willing to change test dates when she fell behind. Overall, strongly reccomended. Such a nice person, takes the time to help
Dr. B is so nice. She likes her students and will explain things well. Chem 111 is about same for everyone. Just work really hard, take everything seriously. It is a point system so a point lost here and there will land you with a B. You need be aware of your grade. Utilize your TA.
super clear lectures, everything based on the textbook. went over sample questions in class, and made sure we understood everything step by step. tests were not difficult, but you do need to study. she helps with questions, and has great office hours. Dr.B is so nice, and wish she taught more classes. would take again !
All around great professor. Very clear in lecture and on what's expected of you. Very friendly and approachable too.
The class is run by the TAs so my rating is on the class itself. The class consists of a prelab quizzes, and post lab HW and quizzes. Make sure you double check sig figs and questions before you turn in lab. If you miss 12 points youre out of an A so points are scarce Tests are tricky so make sure you actually do Lab because if you copy u do bad
Not very helpful
Very nice teacher. Very helpful with anything you need help with. You get to redo each lab at least once. Still, you get a grade by spinning the wheel of fortune. Being less than a percent away from the theoretical value in an experiment gets you a C, and accuracy is pretty much all you are assessed on (65%) of grade. Nothing you can do really.
Does not seem to care about students all that much. Does not have qualified teaching assistants. Is not clear on grading. Lacks test preparation.
I definitely recommend Prof. Binaku to anyone taking Chem Lab. She's really sweet and makes sure to explain things very well in pre-lab lectures. Sometimes loses her patience over small things, but in general is one of the nicest people ever.
Dr. Binaku is one of the most thoughtful and caring professors I've had at Loyola. Quant lab is itself very challenging since sneezing during titration can lower your accuracy a full letter grade. However, she does her best to help students perform experiments correctly, allows redos for everything, and responds to emails very quickly !
She is amazing and so sweet. Her way of teaching is so simple and she formulates her words so nicely that it becomes super easy to grasp hard techniques in Chemistry. i would take her for every Chem class if i could!
10/10 best lab teacher you'll ever get
Best professor for lab. Super helpful and very nice!
Amazing lecturer. Very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience in industrial chemistry. Clear explanations with significant points. You can feel that she cares about your success in her class. Easy A, but you def need to practice and study. Friendly and respectful. No textbook needed.
Clear explanations and she cares about u and ur success in her class. This lab is designed to be not an easy A (but doable) as you're graded based on how close your experimental data is to theoretical data. The big downfall is that she can't really explain what must have caused the errors in your experimental performance if ur accuracy is low.
I took Quant with Dr. Binaku over the summer and I could not be more happy that I took it with her. The time block is very long but she is very passionate and knowledgable about the material and more than willing to help you understand it. She truly cares about you and wants you to succeed. She also teaches the lab so she connects the two.
Dr. Binaku was a helpful, accessible professor. She spends time making sure that everything is crystal clear for students in the lab (from expectations to information itself). She rewards students for their ability to focus and execute techniques in the laboratory, and is always encouraging students with constructive criticism.
Best Chemistry Lab professor. She gives feedback and is always 100% there. Let's the TAs teach but also teaches occasionally. Super cool. Work hard and ask questions during lab and you are fine.
The best gen chem lab instructor. Clear about labs and practicals, and is always actually there. There is little variation among gen chem lab sections, so really just show up prepared and you will be fine. Practicals are open note. If you have a bad lab instructor, don't worry about it because you spend most of your time talking to your TA.
super nice and willing to explain much, but the TA's not so much which kinda sucks. But everything in that class is so organized and you're never thrown any curveballs. She is so good at letting us know what needs to be done before the next class and it's really convenient. I recommend her
If you are looking for an easy A and to learn a lot, she is the professor for you. Although the majority of the class is handled by the TA's, Binaku is always there to help and is great at explaining everything! She is never degrading when answering your questions, she genuinely understands that we are new to this form of chem. Highly recommend!!
This was quant lab so accuracy matters. That being said, Binaku will help you through the lab if something doesn't seem right. Her pre-lab lectures are kinda long so it cuts into wet chem time. Grading for the lab reports and notebooks were so lenient. Just do well on the actual chemistry.
Dr. Binaku is the best! Chem 111 is primarily run by your TA, but Dr. Binaku would circulate around the tables during lab and clearly answer any questions you may have. She's very approachable and never makes you feel dumb. Definitely take her!
Binaku is a very solid choice for Chem 111. Labs are straightforward, fairly easy, and enjoyable. She is very kind and answers questions during lab. If you understand the procedures, you will do great on the exams and rarely have to study, because the exams ask the same questions as the lab worksheets, but with different numbers.
Such a great chem lab professor, she really cares about her students and will help you in anyway possible. Definitely try to take her if you can!!
Katrina is really nice and helpful in lab. The TA's do most of the work, but she's very nice when you ask her for help. She makes you watch a video before each lab and makes it seem like the end of the world if you don't watch it but then spends 45 minutes explaining the lab in detail in class. That's really annoying but she's great otherwise.
Such a caring professor! This semester she stopped doing exams, so your grade is just the labs, easy pre-lab quizzes, safety points and two lab reports. You get to redo your first lab report to get points back after feedback. The grading of the last few labs was more lax, so if you're worried about your grade in the beginning, just hang tight.
Dr. Binaku is pretty straightforward. Show up to class, do the homework and you'll pass. The TA grades your lab notebook. The homework consists of post lab homework, watching a 15-20 minute panopto before class, and writing an introduction for the next class. There is one formal lab report for the last lab which takes a while, but isn't terrible.
She is a great professor! Her class is very easy and laid back. She offers a lot of help in lab and is very organized. Even though her post lab homework can be a bit hard, it dosent affect your grade harshly and she drops the lowest lab grade. I would definitely recommend her and take her again !
she is a really awesome choice. super sweet, helpful, and enthusiastic. chem lab depends more on the TA than the professor though, but she's a really good choice nonetheless
She grades the labs extremely easy, so as long as you do what she tells you to there's no reason to not do well on them. The lab report is graded pretty tough, but if you put some effort in it won't be that hard. The only annoying thing is the post lab homework can be tough since it often has questions that were never covered in lab.
Class is mostly run by TAs and lab notebooks/lab reports are graded by TAs as well. For the labs you mostly have to teach yourself, but she is a really caring and approachable professor and won't hesitate to help you with any questions.
I love this woman so much. She's so kind and makes chem lab interesting. You can tell she really cares about her students. Her grading criteria is very clear. Chem lab was my favorite class this semester. She's so lovely and helpful. She's a gem.
She is not the worst person but I would definitely pick any professor over her. She constantly asks if you have any questions but if you actually do you are met with a snarky response so I wouldn't bother. Also, she over explains everything! Something that could be said in one sentence is stretched out into a ten minute lecture.
I would for sure take Dr. Binaku for any lab again!! She's so nice and caring and always wants to help and answer your questions! She's very passionate! This course also depends on the TA you get but Dr. Binaku was a real plus!
She is definitely super nice and caring and gives plenty of help to her students. However, he prelab talks take forever and she talks really slowly, which I thought really made lab long. She grades kind of tough and leaves you to learn certain things on your own.
Dr. Binaku is a great lab coordinator, she's kind, approachable, and cares about her lab students' success. The only thing I didn't like was the amount/length of pre-lab lectures. The information was redundant, as it was covered in the required panopto videos. But, I would still take her courses in the future and do recommend her!
Definitely one of the best chemistry 112 professors. Super helpful outside of class. Clear with what she expects. As long as you show up and do the work the class is not super difficult. The experiments are pretty interesting.
I took Binaku online and over the summer. The class was super easy.
Class is dictated by only 3 exams, that being said, the tests are very doable, and they are similar to the practice problems. The lecture and discussion session will go over every possible problem in clear detail. As long as you follow along and attend class, an A is attainable.
Professor Binaku always comes to class with a smile on her face. She explains everything clearly, and her labs are super easy. She is one of the best lab professors at Loyola.
Dr. Binaku is the most thorough lecturer I have ever met. She loves questions so don't be shy in class. Grades are mostly based on Labster (which you can re do unlimited amount of times if you don't like your grade) and lab reports. No tests or quizzes.
She is very thorough and clear in her lectures, and they are completely relevant to any reports or labs done! There is about two hours of easy work for this class per week, and if you don't understand something she is super eager to help and give feedback. If you don't do good, on a lab, you can redo it (it doesn't take long at all). No exams!
SO SWEET! Very clear on what she wants us to do, doesn't leave you in the dark. Homework takes a bit of time, (Online lab simulations, lab write-ups, lab reports, etc.) but she gives us all the necessary resources. TAKE HER!
She's a very patient professor, has very organized lectures, replies to emails, and does give homework almost every week or so however it is easy and as long as you attend class and pay attention to what she says you'll be absolutely fine. Definitely recommend taking her class :)
She is a very genuine and devoted prof. She really takes time to teach her students and is very passionate. Very understanding and helpful when it comes to asking questions. You can def do good in this class, if you try for sure.
I thought that Professor Binaku was a really good professor for CHEM 111. She's super friendly and nice. She also does a really good job of explaining everything and providing examples. She almost always has a smile on her face and you can tell she loves what she does. Grading wise, it depends on the SI you have because they grade everything.
Dr. Binaku comes to class with a smile everyday. She is very easygoing and super approachable, no matter how matter how small or big the question. She adapted to online teaching very well. As long you do everything properly, you're gonna get an A. Solid choice. A true crime that she doesn't teach lecture.
straight to the point lectures, replies fast to emails, you don't even need to show up to class honestly its all recorded
Dr. Binaku is the best professor for Quant lab. Her lectures are long but clarifying, she goes through examples before assigning the lab homework, and cares about how well you do, especially if you are busy with other classes. Excel is used for almost every assignment, but it is easy once Dr. B explains.
Loved her! Really understanding professor and was a really easy grader. Easy A (especially for online class) if you do all the assigned homework, quizzes, labs, and notebooks.
Dr. Binaku is a great teacher and super approachable. All of her lab classes are easy to get good grades in because she explains things so well and so thoroughly. Highly recommend.
Unless you're a good chemistry student and are passionate about the subject, do NOT take her class. For starters, SO much writing. If you forget your goggles to class, she won't let you go get them. If you forget them more than twice, you can't participate in any more labs. If you forget to do an online quiz on time, she will not let you take it.
Dr. Binaku is hands-down one of my favorite chemistry professors at Loyola. She explains every lab very well, grades fairly, is very open to answering questions and helping out students, and is just a really nice person. I was nervous about taking quant lab but she made it really enjoyable and gives you every opportunity to do well. Love her!!!
Dr. Binakus lab ran smoothly. Usually for about the first 20 minutes of class she would give a short lecture recapping some of the main points of the lab about to be done. There is a lot of homework, but if you do it over the course of the week, it is manageable. Basically if you show up to the labs and complete the homework, you should do well.
i was failing almost all of my classes (due to sickness, family death, etc) and this was the one class i never had to worry about. there's so little outside work and as long as you show up and do what you're supposed to, it's not difficult. i learned a ton and she was understanding when it came to missing class (as long as i could make up the labs)
Assignments generally not hard, online quizzes will sneak up on you. If you miss one, it hurts your grade a lot. Overall, binaku is very helpful in lab and cares about student success. Very accessible with recommendations and future research opportunities.
Take this professor! Super clear grading criteria and makes chem lab super enjoyable. Also super easy to talk to.
Dr. Binaku is a great lab teacher. She is very nice and always willing to help you if you have questions. Definitely take her!
very organized and clear, almost to a robotic level. She's nice and chem lab isn't really a class where the prof. matters a ton. good option if she fits in your schedule.
Dr. B is honestly one of the most organized professors I have ever had at Loyola. She clearly lays out exactly what you'll be doing during the semester and provides great feedback for improvement. Although this class is partly graded on accuracy, her lectures and guidance are enough to ensure a good grade. I would love to take her again!
Dr. Binaku is fine. Not my favorite prof, but she'll help you if you ask. She can seem a little harsh at times, especially with online quizzes, but she is a good professor. You can't really choose your chem lab prof, so if you end up with her don't be worried but make sure you actually do the work.
Dr. Binaku is nice but comes off as a little passive-aggressive sometimes. She can be a little strict but her lab always runs smoothly so I can respect that. She genuinely wants her students to succeed but she talks a lot, which is good if you don't understand I guess.
chem lab in general is a lot of work but it is easy work. TAs graded the labs and lab reports. 4-5 quizzes online and make sure you don't scroll forward to see the rest of the questions bc you cannot go back. I did that and got a zero on a quiz and she wouldn't allow me to retake it, but I still ended with an A so yeah
loved this teacher, very nice, class is a lot of work sometimes but it is kind of easy if you know what you are doing. you are in person every other week which gives the students more time to finish up work. just do your work for the class, hw is usually labsters-you can retake to get a better grade, and notebook submissions.
As someone had already mentioned, lab every two week. Once your down with the lab you can head out, I would usually finish class an hour early, just go in watch the pre labs, and do the pre lab notebook and you should be set for class. If you still do not understand, she is more than happy to answer any questions. I definitely recommend!
Her lab runs so efficiently and it's wonderful. She is clear, concise, and transparent in her grading and her teaching style. She responds to emails quickly and is very helpful in lab! She regularly sends out emails that contain a checklist of everything due and outlines the criteria very clearly. She is awesome.
Labs with Dr. Binaku run super smoothly; usually, all students are finished an hour early. She tells you EXACTLY what you need to succeed, whether it be through announcements on Sakai or emails with a checklist of the work for that week. She's very accessible outside of class and responds to emails quickly. Definitely recommend!
Expects you to show up and do the work, but is very easy to talk to and ask questions. Super understanding about any issues you may have and is willing to work with you, she wants her students to succeed. Stay on top of due dates every week and you will get a good grade. Very helpful TAs as well. Learned more in this class than in Chem 101.
I love prof Binaku
Dr. Binaku is extremely organized which I loved. This class was super straightforward, and she always told us exactly what was do and when. Only one formal lab report and the TAs grade everything. She is very clear about everything that needs to be done, as long as you do the work you will do well. She could be a bit strict but overall very nice.
Dr. Binaku is AMAZING! I am not the best at chemistry, but this class was very detailed and straightforward, so it is not at all difficult to do well in this class, and she wants you to do well. Many students never ended up using all of the lab time; most finish early. She responds to emails very quickly and is very helpful!
Dr. Binaku is who every lab professor should strive to be. It didn't take long for everyone in the class to have a high level of respect for her, regardless of the fact that she's super sweet and approachable. My only complaint is that her workload can be overwhelming at first, but you should be able to recover.
Dr. Binaku is the best!! She is so kind and helpful when you have questions or need help during lab, and she isn't patronizing like I've heard about some other profs. I have nothing bad to say about her and totally recommend her for any lab class you have to take.
What a great Lab instructor! I really enjoyed her Sakai website. It might not seem that important, but some chem lab instructors will require a lot of assignments, and to find them online is really difficult. She always helped us remember which assignment was due when. I really loved her positivity about everything! I would take her again!
Dr. Binaku was an awesome lab professor! Lab has always been a class that could stress me out because of fear of doing the experiment wrong, but Dr. Binaku was always super calm, organized, and very kind to her students. She has a very clear grading system and she is very flexible with due dates. Take her if you can!
Binaku is fine. The TA's do everything, all that Binaku does is the pre-lab lecture. Expectations are a bit higher for lab notebook material but not bad. Overall pretty easy: 5 quizzes (one dropped), 6 labsters, 2 lab reports. She HATES when people don't wear goggles so don't do that lol.
Very easy class and she is very helpful
She is very nice and funny. Her class is very easy. Most of the assignments are graded from the TA, and they are not hard graders. All the quizzes are take home. If I had the chance, I would take her again.
She has many office hours for any questions. Her TA, Jean, make the course difficult as she made you feel inferior with the questions that you would ask during lab. Binaku was a sweet lady who loves what she does, I just didn't like her TA which makes me dislike her course as well.
TA grade most of the submissions however, very unclear criteria on what they are looking for. They take points off labs and other submissions just cause they can. Never was given a clear explanation by TA or instructor on what I lost points on.
Very foggy deadlines for assignments and very unforgiving when those deadlines have passed
Dr. B is super sweet and helpful, and she does a good job at explaining/giving instructions for the labs. She's very forgiving with late work, giving an extra week for almost every assignment (you will lose some points). Grading is done by the TAs but the criteria is pretty clear.
Dr. Binaku is one of my favorite professors at Loyola. This was her first time teaching this course, but she ensures that you will receive a good grade. Her lectures are thorough and well-organized. Her exams are open-note and straightforward. There are 3 exams, one is dropped, and the final is a 4-6 page written research paper. She's awesome!
