Great Teacher! Very clear and approachable. Take her if you can.
Really clear. not an easy class. lots of memorization but it is expected. extremely helpful. clear lecture notes already printed for you. not boring at all. lots of diagrams. 4 pop quizes. 3 exams, last one cummulative. need to go to class.
Anatomy is a hard class...Gobetz makes it as easy as possible. No tricks, tells you what you need to know. EXTREMELY HELPFUL...wants you to do well. Sets up review times and is very good about emailing people back. Take her if possible! :-) She made the class AWESOME!
What a kind soul! She is such a sweet teacher. She makes things EXTREMELY clear and only wants to help her students. She gives us hints sometimes during quizzes. She loves what she does and loves to see her students excel. Take her if you have a chance next semester, she's the more clearer and easier teacher.
very very nice teacher. three exams, the final is cummulative. got A's on the exams and a B on the final. exams have multiple choice, fill in the blank mostly. clear power points and always willing to help if there is any confusion. really excited about the matieral and fun in class. take her!!!
Makes anatomy as easy as possible with funny pictures and analogies. Take her shes a great teacher!
Extremely nice and helpful. She gives outlines that detail EVERYTHING on the test - study them and you are golden for the tests. Very little textbook reading is actually necessary. She is such a great, wonderful, funny person!
Anatomy is a very difficult class, but it will seem easy because of the teaching. The atmosphere is friendly and laid back, and you get opportunites to test yourself. Great teacher for someone so young, and new at JMU.
Wonderful professor that is clear, nice, knowledgable, and sensible. What more can you ask for?
She is a really good teacher, pretty young and can relate, doesn't try to make things too hard. Take her for sure!
She's kind of scatter brained and unorganized at 8 AM but I hear she's awesome later in the day. She's always willing to help, and generally wants her students to do well. Anatomy is a very hard class and you really shouldn't skip any lectures if you want to do well! DON'T FALL BEHIND ON LEARNING YOUR MUSCLES!!
She is a little scatterbrained at 8 am but isn't hard to understand if you foloow the course notes. She explains things well and her tests aren't difficult if you prepare and study. Attendance is mandatory but it is better to go to class. Take her if you can.
Dr. Gobetz was the last professor I had at JMU. Her class is extremely challenging, and I was thankful just for passing it. The hours of work this class involves is extrodinary. With that said though, I can honestly say that you will not find another teacher as helpful, caring, and understanding towards a student. She is a remarkable teacher.
wow.... gobetz is sooooo scatterbrained... she's really nice though, and her exams aren't hard as long as you put a good amount of time into them. she isn't bad, take her if you like science
Gobetz is a really nice person but an okay teacher. She jumps around alot and she is kind of scattered brain. You will probably learn more in lab.
Gobetz is a VERY nice person. A little scatterbrained and a little quarky. She loves the people magazine and will talk about lindsey lohan. She however IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL. she literally writes a page each lab report to give you pointers for the next one. Great teacher, just boring material but she makes it good.
she isn't the best lecture teacher, but she does have easier tests then the other teachers.
Gobetz is the BOMB. I loved her. She was always willing to explain things and get down on your level. Her BIO124 Lab was actually a lot of fun and quite interesting. The most helpful teacher I've had at JMU so far. She coached me through all the material on the final - Know how do statistical tests in their entirety for the final exam.
The worst thing about Gobetz is that she usually shows up about five minutes late. While this is SUPER annoying since it's such a hard class and there's so much to go through, she's a great instructor. I definitely recommend her.
The most scatter-brained individual I've ever encountered. She is an extremely nice lady, but not a good teacher. This lab is tough in general, but with Gobetz, who doesn't have any organizational skills at all, it was worse. I had to learn everything from my TA. He basically ran the class. Avoid her!
Nice lady, very easy to get along with and talk to outside of class. Not the most organized, but if you pay attention and ask questions, there will be no problems. Overall: Great.
She is a really good instructor for labs even though she shows up late sometimes. She assigned quizzes every week which really help to make you study and not just wait until the week before the test (DON'T DO IT!) It was a great class for me, and I always felt really prepared for the practicals.
Living Learning Community Class was really enjoyable. She's a little scatterbrained but very helpful. You can tell she loves what she does and would love to talk to you about biology or her research. Would recommend even if your unsure about biology.
I love Dr. Gobetz!! All she wants is for her students to succeed! You always feel like you can talk to her at any time about anything
Amazing teacher! I already loved biology, but she made everything interesting. Always came in to class with a smile, and was always ready to help if you needed any. Great to talk to, and I have decided to do research with her she was such a great professor. Just sit back and relax in this class!
Dr. Gobetz is such a great professor. She is easy and funny and she makes lab NOT suck... It's really a bearable class when you have her as your professor.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER. SERIOUSLY, TAKE HER.
Anatomy is intimidating. Dr. Gobetz helps a lot in this class because she makes everything very clear in lecture. She wants to make sure everyone understands and welcomes questions. Colored pencils in class make a difference! I would definitely recommend Dr. Gobetz for such a difficult class.
Dr. Gobetz is super funny and always thinks of helpful ways to remember the material. Anatomy is hard, but she will get you through it
Anatomy requires a ton of work, but Gobetz gives fair tests. They're pretty easy if you know the information. She can be a little scattered sometimes, but I loved her. She's the sweetest lady and really want you to succeed.
One of my favorite professors. Pretty laid back upper level class. The class size was small so we all got to know each other well, and even though she has a tendency to ramble sometimes she's an excellent teacher. She focuses on showing examples of things in lab instead of just throwing slides and words at you. Also super funny. Likes bunnies.
I absolutely love this lady. I really enjoy having her as a professor. She's very laid back and definitely wants people to succeed and do well in her class. She's extremely helpful, funny, cute, and awkward. DEFINITELY TAKE HER
I find Gobetz to be extremely annoying, but she definitely knows her stuff. Anatomy requires a lot of time and effort no matter who you have, but her tests are very straightforward and directly from the course pack.
Gobetz is a good teacher, but her tests sometimes focus on the random details she skims over in lecture rather than the important concepts of anatomy. It was also annoying during the head section she put everything on Canvas and hardly explained any of it in an organized manner. Rely more so on the lab manual and anatomy book for more precise.
If you work hard in this class, an A is absolutely possible. You have to study in order to do well on each test. Pay attention in lecture and ask questions in lab. Gobetz is fair in her grading- you will get the grade that you work for. This class distinguishes students who are willing to go above and beyond from students who settle for mediocrity.
She is the best choice for anatomy. Although she is sometimes unorganized, scatterbrained & jumps around a lot in lecture her tests are very fair. It is not impossible to get an A you just have to work hard & study a ton! Her notes are great but she doesnt use the same pictures she uses in lecture which is frustrating. Colored pencils are a must!
Anatomy is a hard class, but taking it with Gobetz makes it manageable. She gives course notes, so listening in class and following along is easier. 5 tests, including the final. Tests are all multiple choice. Going to her in office hours is definitely worth it. She clarifies lecture material and pinpoints what you should be studying. 100% take her
Gobetz was a great professor! She's a little awkward, but she is really nice and funny! She is very approachable and really wants to help you be successful in the class
TAKE HER!!! She really wants you to do well and explains everything very well. She has her own lecture notes book where you take notes and it has all the figures/images in it that you need to know for lecture exams. (extremely helpful and easy to follow!) If you study and know the material her tests are easy!
She is an excellent lab teacher but strangely does not like touching cadaver. She helps you understand when you are able to snatch her during lab. She does not make the tests but her tests are fair but you need to know your lab manual. Does not take attendance but you will fail her class if you do not go
Dr Gobetz is the best option for 290. It is a very difficult class, but she is organized, knows her stuff, and tries her best to make the information memorable. She is also incredibly helpful if you go see her outside of class. Her tests are all multiple choice and relatively straight forward. It's hard, but she makes it less terrible.
Dr. Gobetz was amazing! She was very helpful and gave lots of hints to lab exams in class. Would def take her again!
Anatomy is a hard class, lots of people have to retake it, but Gobetz really does her best to get you through it. Her lecture exams are not as detail oriented as some of the other professors which makes it a little more passable! I faced burnout at the end of the semester, but it wasn't her fault- it's just a tough class! She is pretty funny
Gobetz is really sweet. Her lab is very much based about going at your own pace & asking her/ the TAs any questions. So, speak up if you have a question and she will help. The material reinforces what you discuss in lecture, so if you review and stay the full time to ask her tips/ tricks to remember you will be okay! Definitely take her if you can.
She makes a hard class a lot easier. Though she has some awkward humor, she breaks down the material in a way that actually makes sense and is very clear with what she expects from you. She's very helpful and willing to answer any and all questions as thoroughly as you need her to.
She gives you good tricks to memorize the material and also had a good sense of humor to make this difficult class bareable.
She is such a sweet woman. In anatomy lab she is super helpful and really knowledgable. She knows her stuff and it really helps to use her as a resource to help in anatomy which is a lot of work to begin with so having her there helped a lot.
Anatomy being one semester is already ridiculous. 280 is not easy, no matter the teacher. Gobetz is a nice lady but her lectures don't really teach you, she can be scatter brained. This class is really on you as a student. If you're not willing to study literally every day and learn SO MUCH information at once, don't take the class in general.
Anatomy is HARD, but she makes this class clear and gives straightforward tests. She wants her students to do well and literally gives you everything to succeed. Be prepared to study a lot! You earn the grade you work. Don't procrastinate and study literally everyday.
She has a coursepack from the bookstore which make lecture that much easier- just filling in blanks and coloring pictures. Attendance not mandatory but she will surprise you and take attendance every so often. Sweet, caring, and laid back! Atlas is more so for lab, but as long as you memorize the lab notebook and lecture images you'll ace the class
gobetz rocks. if you can take her, shes the best BIO 290 professor for lecture! everything of her tests is straightforward she is not there to trick you, she wants everyone to do well. her pre-made coursepack is extremely helpful.
Dr. Gobetz is an ok lecture professor. This year she was all over the place with her powerpoint slides not being accurate and she would constantly fix them during the lecture. She also brought her bunny a few times, which she would acknowledge 25 times during the lecture. Overall, the tests are straightforward and she's nice.
Shes super sweet, understanding, and helpful! Her tests can be phrased in a slightly confusing way sometimes, but just study a little and think. She does do clicker questions, so I wouldn't recommend skipping too much, but her you buy course notes at the beginning of the semester and just fill in the blank, so skipping a few times isn't a big deal.
Gobetz is an adorable professor that is very passionate about her lectures. She brings her bunnies in on tests days and the tests are very straightforward.
Gobetz is a great professor for BIO 150 and understands it isn't everyone's priority class. She makes lecture as interesting as possible and asks questions directly from the notes
Although her class isnt "mandatory" she will have surprise clicker quizzes. I thought Bio140 was easier. Although Gobetz quizzes are "straightforward", you need to know the notes. Theres roughly 40-50 pages of notes you need to memorized from her guided notes. Tests were 25-30 mc, 5-7 free response and maybe matching (2nd, 3rd and final).
I love Dr. Gobetz! She's so sweet and is always making jokes to lighten the mood. She makes anatomy lab more interesting and explains the things you need to know really well. She gives 2 quizzes per unit but usually counts the better of the 2. Would 100% recommend for anatomy lab
Dr. Gobetz is the best professor at JMU. She is so kind and considerate and low-key hilarious. I highly recommend taking her for any class, especially anatomy.
Gobetz is one of my favorite professors at JMU! If you have to take anatomy definitely try to take her for lecture or lab. She is so sweet, funny, and is always very open to any questions and is super willing to help you. She gives quizzes almost every lab but always tells you when they are coming.
Gobetz was one of my favorite professors here at JMU. She truly cares about how well her students do and wants to make sure she is teaching clearly. She is really funny in class and sometimes will bring her bunnies for motivation. Her class isn't really mandatory but she will have random attendance checkpoints. Anatomy is hard in general so go.
Gobetz is amazing! She is so funny and makes BIO290 lecture really easy. I studied the material the day before the test, and got an A on every one. TAKE HER! Btw, anatomy lecture is easy but lab is 10x harder.
I love Dr. Gobetz! I had her for anatomy and 150 and she's great in every aspect. She has course notes for the semester so the notes are easier to take. Attendance isn't mandatory but she'll have questions on occasion that you send her to show you were there. She's quirky but that helps keep lecture interesting. She sometimes brings her bunnies :)
I absolutely love Dr. Gobetz, she is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable on the topics, makes class fly by and is a fair grader. Try to get her!!!
bio290 is known for being an extremely hard class but Gobetz has made it so understandable. her lectures are straightforward and shes enthusiastic about her course. super approachable and willing to explain and listen to any questions you have. has a lecture notebook to go w her lectures that make studying much easier. 100% TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!!!
Anatomy is very hard no matter who is teaching but Gobetz is very nice and makes the material easy to understand. Both her lab and lecture are really good and I enjoyed her as a professor. You have to study a lot to do well but that is just part of anatomy. she doesn't assign an actual textbook but get an atlas!! it helps!!
best professor ive ever had shes the sweetest person and she has bunnies too. she truly cares about everyone so much and while anatomy was the hardest class ive ever taken in my life im glad that i had her to make things a little better
Best professor I've had. Anatomy is a challenging class but she made the lectures fun and really made the class worth coming. She's so sweet and you can really tell that she tries to make the class more interesting and she really cares about her students. Tests are straight forward if you study alot. Definitely recommend her she's amazing!
Great teacher!! it is an extremely difficult class due to the amount of info you have to learn in a short time. She always told people ways to remember things and was very interesting. She is awesome and approachable. Study and you will succeed! I had to work my butt off but the test was VERY fair! Take her you won't regret it!
Kind professor but she is not reachable at all outside of class. Will never respond to your emails. She gets off topic in lectures or will say wrong information and later correct herself. Only grades are the tests which are pretty difficult.
I love Dr. G as a person, but not so much as a prof. I'm sure the online format must've been difficult for her to manage but things got pretty ridiculous. She is never available outside of class so good luck getting a response to your emails. She doesnt keep up with grades and forgets things constantly. I recommend taking her in person, not online
Gobetz is a sweet professor but the online format was unorganized and made it difficult to learn. I highly suggest taking this class with her when we're fully in person.
Gobetz was pretty nice and enthusiastic. However, her lectures and teaching style was VERY unorganized and did not make coherent sense. BIO-290 as a whole is difficult, so make time for yourself to learn the material every single day.
The grading problem isn't with the professor but the department. I had a meeting with Gobetz, where I was told that the department does not want people getting good grades since it will boost your lecture grade. They want the average to be a C in the class. The problem isn't with the professor but the department. She does tend to not answer emails.
She is nice but lectures are very unorganized and hard to follow. Provides note taking sheets but teaching style consists of reading off the slides directly and then going off an irrelevant tangents. Tests are fairly hard & don't have a lot to do with lecture content. Highly recommend going to PASS sessions. 3 tests+ final exam, but no HW/quizzes.
She is nice as a person but her lectures are super unorganized and all over the place. Her exams are much harder than anything we learn in class. Not much homework or quizzes to help bring up your grade if you do bad on an exam.
Very nice personality but does not stay on track throughout the class which makes everything harder than it should be. I would STAY AWAY FROM GOBETZ at all possibilities.
She goes on long tangents throughout lecture. Her notes are so much more complicated and harder to understand. Nothing she talks about in class relates to the exams. If you do poorly on an exam it's extremely hard to bring up your grade because she hardly assigns work. Spent so much money on launchpad to not use it.
THE MOST CONFUSING PROFESSOR EVER. CONTRADICTS HERSELF EVERY OTHER SENTENCE. WTF. LOOKS AT THE BOARD AND ASKS CLASS WHAT THE ANSWER IS WHEN SHE DOESN'T KNOW HERSELF. HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!
Most unorganized professor I've had so far. She got the formula wrong and told us not to listen to her because she did the problem wrong.
She's extremely disorganized, shows up late to class, doesn't help in office hours or if you need help on something you have to ask her 5 times. She also takes forever to grade things and is unclear about what is on her exams.
VERY disorganized. She rearranges lectures between years, but she doesn't update the lecture notes she requires you to buy. This is the most frustrating part. Cannot do basic algebra when "explaining" examples. Very unclear and contradictory. One benefit: she normally lets you out of class early (she doesn't often remember when it actually ends).
She is a very nice professor. Can be disorganized but sets the class up very well. All your notes are in one binder. She will post slides for your notes at random hours so stay on top of those you will need them for lab. But overall her tests are straightforward if you read your notes.
She is a very nice lady, however she is not a good professor. She shows up late to class every single class, most of the time lecture doesn't start until 10 minutes after the scheduled class time. Her lectures are also very unorganized, she uses a binder and major sections of the binder are ignored and not taken out. Avoid her at all costs
Having her as a professor is so scarred in my memory. She is weird, unhelpful and contradictory, not just in her classes but also as a undergraduate research advisor. She told me it was "weird that I was late to her class" as also being one of her research students, yet is painstakingly unresponsive and uninvolved in her undergratuate's research.
Pretty easy class, as long as you sort of pay attention you will be fine. If you are engaged throughout the semester you will almost always get an A. Most content is common sense. Buy the lecture notes from the bookstore they are very important
She is a very kind person, but that is where the pros end. She is very disorganized, makes students very confused, has her notes contradict what she says, and goes off on so many tangents during a lecture that makes you question what is and is not relevant. She will also make you get a very useless "textbook"
She is VERY disorganized, her notes literally contradict themselves and she always goes on random tangents that take up class time. She has parts of notes taken out then asks questions about it on the exams. You are only graded on your exams and like 3 other assignments so if you get a bad grade your screwed. Avoid gobetz if you can. Awful prof.
Her outlined notes are literally a manuscript of what she says and her lectures were both unorganized and contradictory EVERY class. Since her class is based on three exams, the final, and limited attendence assignments it's imperative you do well on EVERYTHING. If you can avoid her, I'd highly recommend it.
I did well in this class, but I studied A LOT! Be ready to put in a lot of work, but getting an A is very possible with the right amount of studying. Go to every available office hours and ask questions! No homework, grade mainly depends on tests so start studying material early. Overall, she was late and disorganized, but definitely a good choice!
She's not a mean person, but her class sucks. There are only 3 tests and the final, and all other assignments aren't weighted enough to help your grade. She is very confusing and contradicts herself a lot during lectures. Her class was a pain and I would take someone else if you can.
I LOVEEE Dr. Gobetz! Her teaching style may not work for everyone-- she can seem "all over the place" during her lectures to some people. But as an "all over the place" thinker myself, her teaching style was perfect because she answered questions before I could get distracted thinking about them. She's passionate and funny wicked smart. THE BEST!
Although sometimes disorganized, Professor Gobetz is an amazing professor. As long as you study the course pack and put in the time, you should pass with ease. She made lectures interesting and even brought her bunny on exam days! The exams were extremely straight forward and I never felt that she was trying to trick me. Definitely take her.
She is the most confusing professor and her notes are all over the place. This should relatively be a easy course but she makes it so confusing. She does not stick to one topic when lecturing instead goes all over the place when teaching. I would not recommend for BIO 150 but maybe another course.
She gives attendance checks mostly every class which affects your grade a lot because they're graded on accuracy. There aren't very many grades in this class. Her lectures are a little confusing, but the tests are pretty straightforward from the notes she provides.
Mammology was seriously one of my favorite classes this semester. The tests are not that bad if you pay attention. Everything in her class is fill in the blank. Could not recommend her more. She is so passionate about this topic and the class is actually fun and interesting. Plus you get lab credit for the easiest lab i've ever taken.
I find that Prof. Gobetz teaching style is disorganized, while often starting class late and ending early. I am not sure why her class is as difficult as it is since it is an entry level bio course. To note, I consider myself fairly well-versed in bio. Attendance is mandatory for check-in questions but are often graded harshly and for correctness.
She's very sweet but extremely disorganized. She makes you buy fill in notes which don't make sense at all. Most of the notes don't make full sentences and have many grammatical errors which makes it very hard to read. I suggest not buying the notes and take notes for yourself. She also only assigns like 3 things. I would AVOID her class!!!!!!!
I would not recommend Gobetz for 270L. There are much better options. Occasionally would ask questions on the lab materials and would almost never get a clear answer and often points taken off later. Did not tell our section about the first practice exam and my lab section had a much lower average than everyone else.
This class is relatively easy as long as you study. However, you have to show up to class for attendance quizzes and some in class assignments are hard for no reason. She is not the most organized person, and is often late to class. Overall, the class is far easier than BIO 140, and I only really had to study for tests the day of to get an A's.
Love this professor. She definitely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. You're graded on very few things which kinda sucks, but she does give some extra points. Attendance technically is not mandatory but she does not post lecture slides online.
Gobetz is a good professor. There are three exams in her class, one each month and then a final at the end. She grades attendance through a worksheet that's completed after class. She tends to be contradicting at times, but is very helpful when it comes to your concerns and emails.
Genuinely the best professor I've had. A little disorganized, but still explains material in a clear way and gives you course notes. Attendance is mandatory, she randomly gives out small assignments to keep track of who was there. No notes (or anything really) on her canvas. Test questions were sometimes confusing, but still doable w/o studying.
This class is super easy to do well in if you study and put the work in. There are little in class activities that are good for a little grade boost. She is super nice and willing to help. The tests are multiple choice with short answer at the end but are applying concept based. I easily could've gotten an A if I actually studied.
Slightly disorganized but explains topics in a way that is very easy to understand. No textbook is necessary because she offers course notes which are fill in the blank. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does give out random in class graded assignments.
She has so much energy and really wakes me up early in the morning, she brings her bunny to tests and its so cute. I would take her again 100%
Dr. Gobetz is so sweet! She really tried to make lectures interesting, and really cares about her students. She does a really good job engaging with the students, even in lectures with 100 people. TAKE HER for BIO150, you will not regret it and it's a pretty easy A if you study and go to class.
I had Gobetz for 150 and now for anatomy lab and I always love her. She cares so much about you! For 150 it was easy but for Anatomy lab, well, it is anatomy. Anatomy is extremely hard but she tries to help you the best she can.
Good luck when it comes to taking notes. her slides do not match up with the mandatory coursepack you have to buy. spent so much time trying to figure out where to even put the info from the slides because they don't match up. her tests are honestly annoying. you study the slides but then she words things so weirdly. few assignments and test heavy
TAKE GOBETZ FOR BIO150!!! She is so amazing and truly cares about her student's success. She relates lectures to real-world examples which makes it very easy to comprehend. Exams are slightly difficult but there are only 3 exams (including final). She is honestly the best professor I've had at JMU so far.
I LOVE Professor Gobetz! She really cares about her students, and she is very passionate about the topics she teaches. Definitely take her if you want to learn a lot and having a caring professor!!!!
She is an amazing professor!!! She is so passionate about what she teaches and even takes examples from students to see how she can incorporate them in lecture. Her tests are formatted a little weird, but GO TO CLASS because attendance is 35% of your grade, so even if you bomb the exams, you will still do okay in the class.
Dr. Gobetz is hilarious, extremely helpful, and really appreciates when people actually try. Sometimes she brings in her bunny, which is nice. Make sure you catch her at the beginning of lab, though. She gets attached to 1 group for an entire class period and it's really hard to get help from her after that. I wish she had more ASC hours, though.
One of the most amazing professors I've had so far. I only failed because I didn't apply myself. High energy and lectures are really entertaining. She brings in her bunny sometimes for us to pet.
Im not sure why she is a 5/5. Yes she is very kind but she is not a good teacher. She gets off track very easily and her notes are incredibly hard to follow along to. Her exams are application based and abnormally hard. Take someone else.
Dr. Gobetz has an awesome personality and makes several funny jokes throughout lectures. Lectures are provided with fill-in notes but she doesn't post them online so you actually do have to attend. She brings her bunny on exam days which is sweet but exams are honestly pretty difficult as they are application-based and not many grades.
She takes months to grade the 2 exams that she gives. She gets distracted during lectures and does not give clear notes. You will not know your grade in the class till the week before the final even though there weren't any assignments or exams for a month before. She is the most disorganized and inconsiderate professor I've ever had.
We have the final in 3 days and she still hasn't made it/told us what was on it. She is very unorganized and last minute and it definitely impacts your grade.
gave back exam two after 2 months, lectures are unorganized and not in order, doesn't know what she's talking about most of the time, rambles for no reason, barely any assignments besides the tests. i honestly dont know how she got a 5/5.
Gobetz is very nice, and clearly cares about ecology. Her notes are hard to follow, the in-class group assignments will tank your grade if you miss them, and her exams are so hard for no reason. First exam gave me a false sense of security, her exam questions are application based and we didn't get the second exam back until basically the final
Nothing negative to say about her. Easy exams, easy to follow lectures, and she is so funny. Brought her bunnies to class multiple times. She LOVES what she is teaching and is so good at it. Loved her so much
Dr. Gobetz is a very sweet lady, but there are 3 exams that are very wordy and have to study for. Lecture is interesting, but must attend class if you want notes, because she doesn't post them and they are fill in the blank. No mandatory attendance, but there is in-class participation that if you miss, it'll tank your grade.
shes kind of weird and she doesn't help with any of the lab material. she just kind of wanders around the room. the entire 3 hour period is self guided and the entire class leaves after 30 minutes because no one really knows how to apply the manual to the cadavers. And theres no guidance!! Take dr. cage or dr. gabriel
There is a quiz every class based on the manual. The class is self guided but Dr. Gobetz does go around and help or she'll lecture on the models and wall charts. It's best to take a good look at every model that you see in class because it will most likely be on the exam.
This class was okay, but my peers with other professors seem to have a much more productive lab experience. I wish there was more structure and that she would explain the concepts for at least a little while in class. Pre lab quizzes also were a lot harder than peers with other professors. Overall an okay class, just didn't really help me learn.
Gobetz never really taught anything it was just sort of a free for all Lab time
Dr. Gobetz was good at explaining relevant concepts for the lab practicals, but you have to seek her out in lab. Lab is really what you make of it, so don't expect to do well if you just sit there. If you ask her to walk you through the cadavers and wall charts, she is very helpful and understanding. Weekly quizzes can be kinda specific.
LOVE Gobetz! She's very nice and very accommodating. The only material we needed to buy for the class was like a $35 binder full of all of the notes from class with blanks to fill in. It made note taking so much easier because I had more time to be present with the material instead of scrambling to write everything important.
I thought she was a great professor. It's clear she's passionate about what she's teaching. She sells a lecture handbook for like $20 with fill in notes that's not required but is SUPER helpful. Theres 3 exams and they aren't too bad as long as you study go to and pay attention to lectures.
Professor Gobetz can be hit-or-miss. The lectures are engaging, but her disorganization and slow grading can be frustrating. Using unstuckstudy alongside the provided notes helps manage the workload.
Gobetz was great! All we needed was a notes binder with fill in the blanks notes which made following lectures very easy. While attendance is not technically mandatory, she does not post the notes and we have in class assignments almost every class which can really help your grade. There is barely any outside work and only three tests.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but to get lecture notes you have to go to class as she doesn't post her slides. She also randomly does in class assignments, which are easy, but you need to be there to get credit. Don't buy textbook, as she doesn't use it. Super funny character and brings her bunny's to class on exams.
She is nice- but doesn't post slides, so go to class (even tho it's optional) to fill in notes (you have to buy ~$35). There are in class assignments randomly which do help your grade if you do well. The tests are kinda specific and hard, so beware. No need for textbook, and she brings her bunnies to class on exam days!
Tests can be very confusing, they are mainly concept and understanding-based. She is very nice, but a little disorganized and gets carried away during lectures so it sometimes feels like a while.
I feel like I dont learn anything in lab. very reliant on TAs and I have heard better experiences from other professors.
Dr Gobetz is a great woman but as an Anatomy lab professor, not so well. Her grading is way too harsh and she is 10x more complicated than the other lab professors. She does not give partial credit nor extra credit. Anatomy is hard to begin, but my class average for exams were between 45-60%. She also picks favorites and its very obvious.
Avoid this lab professor like the plague. She is very unorganized, unresponsive and picks favorites. She doesn't teach and picks favorites in the class. Most of the class is retaking it with a different professor and will go talk to other professors for help since she prioritizes her favorite students.
Truly one of the worst classes i have taken in my time at JMU. TA's grade each exams and quizzes and frequently mess up and have a terrible attitude when they mess up on their own grading. No structure to this class very little guidance. VERY exam heavy and half of the class has to retake in the summer or again next fall.\
Katrina is not a good professor for anatomy lab. She doesn't teach anything and expects us to approach her with questions. Her pre lab quizzes are impossible if you haven't studied, and the material on them is so specific that you're guaranteed a fail if you haven't studied. She sticks to 1 group of people for the entire 3 hour lab. AVOID HER!!!!!
Dr. Gobetz is super sweet and passionate. You're graded on 3 exams and easy in-class work. She's very helpful during office hours. But you don't get much practice until she posts practice exams right before tests, so if you bomb one exam, you may be cooked.
The MOST genuine women ever!!! She is lecture heavy, and the only grades are exams and participation. Make sure you understand the information a but more in-depth than what is taught, because she teaches surface-level information. She brings her bunny on exam days, which is a plus!
just dont. pls dont. so unorganzied and bad compared to the other lab professors. pls just dont. i felt like i was being rage baited all semester.
At the start of the semester she spent 2:3 hours soley lecturing and it was NOT helpful for me personally. I definitely recommend asking for help from the TAs because they def taught me more than she did all semester. If you want to look at models make sure to do that on your own she kinda just lets you do whatever.
She is a nice lady but doesn't really teach much. Make sure to really study before the pre lab quizzes bc you won't do good on them if you don't. Lab is mainly just looking at different models and the cadavers. Really look at the cadavers bc they are the only time you can see them before practicals. Also she brings her bunny when we have practicals
