Amazing teacher, wish she taught all math classes. Super clear about everything and also super funny. Not much homework and you get to use your homework on the quizzes. love her!!
Katrina is lovely! I'm so glad I decided to take the M01 class as a refresher before I take M03. She made this class more than tolerable, making the class environment friendly. She's very approachable and tells funny stories while teaching. Can't wait to take her again.
I took it in the summer. she's pretty straight forward. makes things a lot clearer. tests are basically the same as the review.
Good teacher compared to other math classes I have had. She's really outgoing. She assigns a lot of homework, so be prepared to be working 1-2 hrs per class on homework. The class is fast pace, only one hour long so questions are briefly answered if you still don't get it after you asked a question prepare to teach yourself, she moves on fast.
She is very nice but zooms through each topic with very few examples. Needs to explain a little more in detail regarding the solutions and how she got the solution. Quizzes are easy because you can use your homework. I feel lost in the class and same with others. I have to read the book or go online for further explanation. Not sure I will pass
She is a nice Professor, however expect to spend an hour or two per homework assignment. I have talked to some other students and they feel as if they are a lost in what is happening in the class. I often have to review from the book and re-teach myself the material. There is four chapter exams and a cumulative final.
Best teacher ever!
Awesome teacher!! She really knows the materials and she is a great communicator.
Katrina is the sweetest instructor and really wants you to do well and she works hard to ensure that you succeed.
Katrina is a sweetheart and if you genuinely show interest in passing her class she will help you as much as she can. The assignments are lengthy, and be sure to remind her to post study guides for her tests. She's awesome as a person, her class can be boring but she's definitely there for you. Show her that you're motivated!
Really nice teacher she's really funny! Very helpful!
Katrina is a nice person. BUT You MUST have some knowledge of Algebra, or you won't pass. Goes over things ONCE. Tons of HOMEWORK. Refers you to Math Lab, but not much help there. Or Math Videos, a little help, not much. ALWAYS puts stuff on tests that we did not go over. Goes at a very fast pace, keep up or you will get lost. Dont take it!
Katrina is helpful and is a joy to be around. This last semester I decided to take a heavy unit load, which unfortunately took up the majority of my time. Katrina actually understood this and was more than willing to work with me in office hours. I didn't do so well in her class compared to others, but I'd still choose her over the other professors
Do your homework and you'll pass the class. Be sure to review your notes after class to be able to understand the concepts of each lecture. Practice, practice, practice and you'll be fine. Katrina is super helpful. Don't be afraid to ask her for help.
She is honestly such a sweet girl, she wants you to pass, understands math is hard and not for everyone. She teaches more then one way to do everything so depending on how you learn you can choose how to do the problem. Extremely helpful and approchable, I try to take her for every math I have to take. 1010 would recommend
homework, homework, homework. Quizzes based on homework.
Expecting a soviet era Polish crone, considering her last name, I was surprised to find that Mrs. Topolinski is in fact rather young, friendly, and unintimidating. She works from the book and tests on what she teaches. Fair and clear cut as you can get. I took her MO3 over summer and got an A with average effort. She's refreshingly unambiguous.
Katrina is easily the best math teacher I've ever had. She knows her stuff and is good at explaining the material. She is always willing to stay after class (even when the class gets out at 9:15pm) to answer Q's. She is extremely approachable and clearly wants you to succeed. I mean, yeah, you have to actually do some work, but it's very reasonable
The worst math teacher i have ever taken. The test questions are way harder then what she teaches in class. She said are class average was 55% and then laughed, thinking it was a joke. Also that not one person in the class has gotten over a 50%, not motivating at all. Moves way to fast!
Katrina is a very knowledgeable person, but is not very good at articulating it. Her notes are not very helpful because she doesn't give students the time to understand it. You watch her do problems and doesn't allow the students to try some for themselve Her test have material that she doesn't go over in class, and sometimes not on the homework.
As with any class, how "easy it is" is subjective. If you struggle in math, be proactive and ask a lot of questions, she's always willing to help and go over things. She does give a lot of HW but it will help you on the tests and exams. She gives group work which allows you to work with your peers and really go over anything you are unsure about.
Katrina is a very approachable person. The problem is that her notes are already prewritten and that is all she goes over, I feel that it would be a bigger help if she gave us more examples in the class. She gives a lot of homework and does go over it and that is a help, a lot of other teachers give a lot of homework so that is not a problem.
She's so sweet, always helpful if you don't understand something. Lectures are good, she tries to lighten math up. If you get the chance to take her, definitely do it!
This was my third attempt taking Calculus, and I wouldn't have passed without Topolinski. She posts a lot of her lectures, and is more than happy to work with you. I hate math, and I certainly had to work for it, but she was kind and helpful. I wish she was teaching M25B so I could take her again.
This is not an easy class. You're going to have to work for an A or B. But Katrina is probably the best math teacher I've ever had. Even though the material is tough, she is always there to help you. She also understands when something is difficult and will have group tests instead of individual ones. TAKE HER. You will be so thankful you did.
If you need to take a math course then you better take it with KT! She is such a great teacher-and will always help you if you ask. She goes really fast during lectures, but will slow down and explain things if you ask. Loved her and would definitely take more classes with her if I could. BTW- she ain't ex KGB
Toward the second half of the class when trig was introduced, I spent 20+ hours per week on homework and studying the concepts. Not an easy class. Katrina is willing to help. Provides lecture notes online for you to print out for class. Quizzes every 1-2 weeks, 4 exams and a final. Personally, I don't care for her style of lecturing though.
Katrina is super nice and very helpful. This was my second time taking M03 and I'm terrible at math and it was pretty easy. You get to use hw on the quizzes! She makes her own study guides that you just print out and do in class with her, so it's easier to understand the lesson. If you struggle in math take this teacher!!!!
its fair to say that math and myself do not get along, and the first time i took this class i got an F. But thanks to Katrina this class wasnt so bad. i would highly recommend her for any math class that you can. ask questions, participate in class, and do your homework and you will pass this class.
I thought I sucked at math which is why I took elementary algebra, but it was a great refresher and she is such an amazing math professor! I suck at math and she really goes in detail and is willing to explain if you need help! I highly suggest her if you are not the greatest at math!
This was my 2nd time taking this class and I still had to work twice as hard. Her notes are very helpful and she is willing to answer everyone's question's, it's just the textbook I didn't care for. It didn't have problems related to the ones we did during lecture which was quite frustrating. Overall great prof. HARD CLASS.
She's a great teacher, provides pre-typed notes, is willing to go over homework and answer questions, but her tests are impossible. She explains things clearly and will go over it if anyone is confused, but you will need to do all the homework (even though it's a lot and it's not graded) and go to her office hours as much as possible to succeed.
10 quizzes, 4 exams, final. she was very helpful and clear in the first part of the semester, but things went downhill when we got to trig- she did not know how to explain the content & kept saying she wants the semester to be over. often put hw & notes problems on tests, which made it easier. made lots of quizzes be group quizzes. very nice person
Katrina is so sweet funny instructor. her lecture goes fast as her speaking way, but her lecture is very clear, her knowledge of the subject is respectable. you have some quizzes which come from HW, and each exams comes from the quizzes. so, as long as you do HW, you would be good!
Such a great professor! She explains everything so clearly if you don't understand it and takes the time to explain it to you, so ask questions if you don't get something! Does assign homework, but honestly really helps for the exams and quizzes. Her exams are pretty easy if you are doing the homework. Awesome class overall!
Awesome professor. Definitely made the material enjoyable and always looked forward to class. Just do the assigned problems and spend time reviewing material as it builds on itself.
Katrina is the best math teacher I have ever had. I have never gotten better than a C in a math class until I took it with her. Math is hard so there is a lot of homework but you wont pass unless you do it. I went to her office hours every day after class and she is more than willing to help you with anything you need, and she is so sweet! Take her
If you are coming to Moorpark and haven't done math in a long time then take this woman. She explains the material great and has no problem helping you out when you need it. She really gives this class all her effort, you just have to do your part and ask the questions you want to know and do the work in class.
She wants everyone to succeed and makes sure everyone is following along. Very helpful! Lots of quizzes only a few exams so your grade is not so heavily influenced. I bought my book but only did the first 3 homework assignments because she explains it so well I don't need the HW for practice. You don't turn in HW but can use it on quizzes.
She is very nice but her lectures are bad (few examples given). For some reason she likes giving word problems on her tests even though she hates them. She crams so much for a test that it makes it really hard to study for. Lots of group work. She is a cool professor but if your slow to really understand the concepts don't take this class.
Have her now for PreCalc and she is so cool. Explains everything really well and is setting me up good for Calc. She's awesome.. probably the coolest teacher I've had.
this is one of the best math professors at moorpark college considering most don't care about you. she is so helpful, takes her time with you if you need help, makes lectures super easy and gives you multiple opportunities to get extra points. attendance is mandatory if you wanna pass. 10/10 recommended
I really like Professor Topolinski! She is so sweet and hilarious. She has 6 tests and a final, but the tests are given like every other week so you have plenty of time to study. She also gives us 12 quizzes but most of them are group quizzes! She's awesome, would definitely take her again!!
Katrina is amazing!!!!!! I have always been really bad at math, but she makes learning it easy and clear. She is hilarious, and I always enjoyed being in her class. There needs to be more math teachers like her! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!
She's awesome! There are some points for you to pass with an excelent grade it's just up to you! Don't skip classes, she doesn't call the roll but ppl it's math so if you skip one class you'll be completely lost! Homework is not mandatory BUT! If you do your homework will give lots of practice and same questions in the exam Quizzes in groups!
Best professor I've ever had. I hate math so much, but she makes math enjoyable and easy. One of the most caring professors and she only wants you to succeed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
She really cares for her students and she's hilarious. I've taken her for two classes now and I wish I she could teach all my math classes in the future. Math can get stressful, but talking to her and asking her for help really reassures you that she cares. She lets you know what to expect on tests and quizzes. Overall, amazing professor.
I had Katrina for M25a (Calc 1) over summer and while it was very fast. you learn what you need and she enjoys helping you.
She is a great professor. She is pretty sarcastic which helps during her lectures. She teaches in a rather clear and organized way. You will receive partial credit on tests and quizzes and she will explain where you messed up in the problems you got wrong. She is very easy to talk to and is very relaxed.
She is a good teacher, you have to print the lecture questions that are online if you want to keep up with her work on the lecture. She takes her time to answer questions, always in a good mood unless people start talking too much or being on their phones Tests aren't very tough you'll for sure need to study and learn formulas to pass, good teacher
I have a mixed feeling about professor Katrina. She tries to help, she does answers everyones questions. She is a tough grader. Some questions from her tests were in the reviews problems. I just wish we did the review problems all together on the board, instead we do them as groups and we go ask her for any help if needed.
She's really nice and will try to help you as much as possible. Doesn't round which can be annoying, but gives many opportunities to raise your grade if you go to her office hours and if she can tell that you are trying. Very personable and will make lecture interesting by telling funny stories about her life. I really enjoyed her and her class.
If you struggle with math she is not for you. 3 Exams are weighed heavily so if you do badly, you will not get a passing grade. There are about 10 quizzes. The more difficult topics are done in groups. Attendance is noted -
Math M07 is a tough class however it is manageable. Katrina gives organized lectures and makes a three-hour class go by fast. There are 5 tests and 8 quizzes. She is more than happy to help outside of class and after class. I would take her again if I could.
Assignments are mandatory! Always ask for her help if you don't understand the lesson, she would be happy to help you :)) Take her!!!
Definitely take her every day class in the morning. If it weren't for the consistency I probably would have had a much harder time. Lessons are simple, straightforward, and fun. Very approachable and available during office hours. Homework/Quizzes are online and you get immediate feedback, which is extremely helpful.
the class itself is good, she gives a few xtra points for attendance. BUT, If you're not good at exams-think again I had 100% in quizzes & classwork but failed to get a C by about 7 points in the exams. There are other teachers that will consider the semester of studying, your work ethics etc.. if you're borderline - pick another teacher!
If you have trouble in math, I would not recommend her. She doesn't explain the material too well and constantly messed up in lecture. She moves pretty fast, but doesn't care to explain much. Took another teacher and passed the class with a B. Her class was a waste of my time.
Blah blah blah, other reviews are correct, math is hard, unfortunately this doesn't mean she is a bad prof. What makes her a bad prof imo is how she explains things. If you fail to understand her explanation in the first go, she will kinda just restate the explanation in the same speed, manner, and diction, as if that will help. Rarely did it help.
Shes a very caring teacher and on top of that she actually takes teaching very serious but still knows how to make the classroom laugh. Her notes are very clear and she is always willing to help and explain till the student understands the topic at hand. Overall great math teacher and person in general!
Not only is she a good teacher, she's fair and super relatable. There's no way you won't have a firm grasp of Pre Algebra after taking Mrs. T's class. Anyone who says otherwise probably didn't want to try and didn't do well as a result. I would 100% take a class from Mrs. Topolinski again.
Prof T is Ok. What I did not appreciate is that on quizzes if you get any part of the questions wrong she deducts points. If you are borderline C do not take bc you'll fail. I passed with an A but my group buddy although passed every quiz marginally failed the exam by a few points and got a D. He is taking the class again with another Professor.
I took her hybrid class and she is so sweet! the class is not CSU or UC accepted (which I didn't know) but it's an easy A and she is really cool
Topolinski is one of the best professors Ive had. She really cares individually about each one of her students. As for lectures, she posts them before semester begins and you can print them out and follow along in class. Easy and so organized. Theres 3 exams and 11 quizzes, but theyre not difficult if you study. Highly recommend her!
Honestly, I am so bad in Math and hated Math. However, Prof Topolinski makes me love the subject. I have many professors in Math but Prof Topolinski stands out. She explained every detail of the subject. I am surprised that I started to love numbers. Math is all about study and practice. You will never regret having her.
Doesn't except test corrections, makes mistakes on study guide. Listens to headphone in class/leave the room while you do computer work. You'll spend 20-40 hours a week doing homework worth 20% of your grade, exams are worth 40% & the final is 25%. Won't respond to emails. Nope-olinski does the minimum required & only cares about her pay check.
She is fair and very transparent in how grades work. If you take a self-paced computer class she is willing to help you along the way if you ask, more than other computer based class proctors will do. I went to her office hours and she spent extra time helping me understand the material.
She explains each problem very slowly and thoroughly which really helps especially when it comes to calculus. Exams and quizzes are based off of the chapter review and homework. She is really nice and takes her time when explaining things. Definitley reccomend her!
Took her for Calc 1. Hardest thing I have ever done. Shes an extremely strict grader, rarely gives partial credit and when she does its usually like 1 point out of 8 maximum for a problem, if you did the problem using the right process but got the answer wrong due to miscalc. Basically, theres no room for even the slightest mistakes on her tests.
i LOVE her teaching style so much, but sometimes her exams/quizzes were way too hard or made no sense. she made a lot of our quizzes "group quizzes" where we could work together as a group on a quiz. that saved my grade!! you really have to study/practice in order to do well. i really respect her, but her class is definitely a bit difficult.
AMAZING!!! Calc 1 is extremely difficult, no matter what teacher you have, but Katrina is so helpful and wants you to succeed. If you go to her office hours she gives you so many hints as to what is on her test! If youre willing to put the work in, you will do well in the class. She is also very funny and sweet:)
Professor Topolinski is a great professor. Calculus is hard, but if you go to her office hours she will help you as much as you need. Her lectures are very well organized and she is great at communicating with students to make sure they understand. Do the homework! You'll definitely see similar problems in the quizzes.
I took her class in a hybrid format, and loved it. She really cares about her students and makes sure everyone gets all the help they need in order to pass the class. She lets you make up late work for full credit. She provides useful study guides before each test - if you know the study guide material, you'll do great on the test.
Amazing teacher. Here video lectures are the BEST. She explains Math in a way that you can really understand. Math is always hard work, do the homework over and over until you really understand. Watch her videos and take notes. Study every "sample" problem. If you work hard and don't give up, you will do fine. She is a gifted teacher.
THIS CLASS WAS THE HARDEST COURSE IVE EVER TAKEN AT MOORPARK, ESPECIALLY BEING ONLINE. Katrina is a great person but her class is very difficult and she is not lenient at all. There absolutely no extra credit which is unfair for how little assignments. The average on most the exams was below a 50%. I had to withdraw so it wouldn't tank my GPA.
Professor Topolinski is kind, generous and approachable. I took this class after a very long break in my education so I struggled learning math online. She was generous with her time and nursed me through. She wants you to succeed and understands we are not all math majors. Go to office hours, it really helps. Definitely take her class.
TOP TWO TEACHERS I'VE HAD. She has office hours twice a week for 2hrs AND IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING,GO THERE! HW isn't graded. There's 5 exams, 13quiz and 2finals but she averages out your lowest exam of the 5 which boosts your grade. I'D SAY SHE WANTS YOU TO PASS. And she tries to give U as many points as possible! (Advice):TAKE THIS PROF!
Literally one of the best math profs I have had a Moorpark so far. Really shows a passion for teaching you and wants to make sure that you understand the concepts. Set up her online class so nicely and really did her best in teaching us such a hard course online! It actual gem and made me enjoy calculus! TAKE HER IF YOU CAN YOU'LL LOVE HER!!
I have taken two classes with this teacher and this semester was the first time in zoom with her. She is very understanding and sweet! She is good teacher and explains everything very thoroughly so its easy to understand. If youre thinking about talking her class, do it she is probably one of the nicest teachers Ive ever had :)
I took her fully online and she doesn't give any extra credit or study guides before exams. She gives us homework on material we're learning the next lecture and then grades us on it. Her quizzes are super difficult. She also makes you have a camera on your hands and face during exams. You better have literally everything memorized, no cheat sheets
Absolutely the HARDEST math class i have ever taken. It was all online and it was so difficult to learn. She is alright at explaining the material but it was just way too difficult to understand. NO STUDY GUIDES given for exams. Exams are super hard too. I had a really hard time here...
The lectures are very heavy and she expects you to watch videos to learn about topics for the homework assigned. Your camera has to be on and show your work on zoom as you take your exam; no cheat sheets. Not very specific as to what will be on exams as well. Definitely a difficult course.
Gives you the easiest examples on lectures and hw then on tests gives you all the special cases or hardest examples that she barely went over. Her grading scale is also wack. Doesn't matter how well you do on quizzes or tests, if you do poorly on video assignments that's it you're stuck with a bad grade the rest of the semester
Great person, very outgoing and energetic and likes the class to be engaged. She does give very easy problems in class, then the quizzes are unbelievably hard and make no sense. Her tests however are just like her in class practice problems. Don't know why her quizzes are the way they are. Easy to reach outside of class, very responsive.
Professor Topolinski is great! All homework in the class is optional, quizzes about once a week, with 3 tests and 1 final worth 25% of your total grade. She has office hours almost every day that are extremely helpful so make sure to go to them! No extra credit outside of 1 question per test and no study guides for tests.
Topolinski cancelled class essentially twice this semester: once so we could protest the vaccine mandate and once because she got COVID. 4 absences automatic drop from class. You must show all work and only the way she taught. Must have camera on your paper during tests. Very little extra credit and a harsh grader. Take calc with anyone else.
This professor knows the material and gives good lectures, is willing to help you out with office hours. But, this class definitely requires dedication or else your grade will suffer. Must have camera on for tests and no extra credit. No notes allowed on tests either. Watch lecture videos, do the practice problems, and go to office hoursa pass.
Topolinski is overall just a negative professor who doesnt care a lot about her students. Im not sure why everyone loves her, shes a tough grader. She also puts you in random breakout rooms and threatens to give you a zero on the assignment if she doesnt see people talking in it. The workload itself isnt terrible. I dont recommend her
Prof Top's class was one of the hardest math classes I've ever taken. Her tests were short but hard, and the breakout rooms were ridiculous. I had to drop this class because of how difficult it was. Lecture was long and hard online and it was just an overall bad experience.
Just a warning, she does NOT take students off the waitlist. Kinda sucked when I showed up for the first day and was told that waitlisted students will not be added, but I understand that professors have different exceptions. She seems nice and the work was manageable, wish I could've stayed in the class honestly!
Professor Topolinski is an absolute sweetheart and an absolute pleasure to have as a teacher. I had her my first semester of my freshman year and she made the experience so much less overwhelming and so much more enjoyable. While her tests are pretty difficult, just study the notes and go to her for help and you'll do just fine.
She is great at teaching the subject and is nice, but her tests are nearly impossible no matter how hard you study. DO ALL THE HW AND GO TO OFFICE HOURS TO CHECK ONES YOU ARE CONFUSED ON OR YOU WONT PASS. I am a straight A student and failed my first test in this class. Most people I know fail this class, but it is the best option for Moorpark calc
Professor Topolinski has really tough tests, the problems you'll have on the test seem harder than anything you do in class and most of the time the homework as well. If you attend class she has really great lectures that always seem to make even the toughest concepts make sense, and you'll always do a lot of practice problems and examples inclass.
The class is well organized and her lectures are easy to follow along. There are quizzes every few weeks and three exams. Her lecture examples are easy, but the homework she assigns from the textbook is a similar difficulty to the exam questions. Make sure you keep on top of the homework and understand it, otherwise the material piles up.
Lots of homework but plenty of good resources. If you're confused, REACH OUT FOR HELP!! Taking the exams were TOUGH, and not only that but they were monitored by having two cameras on at all times at a designated time to take the exam with limited time. You have to scan in all your work which she grades with good feedback to check your work.
If you need an A don't take her. Literally impossible to get an A in this class. No extra credits, no cheat sheet, and she is a tough grader.
Make sure you know your algebra and trig well. She is great and fun in class, but tends to assume you know more than you really do. I personally had to study a lot outside of the class material because of this. There is also a quiz every week and 4 exams + a final exam. If you do the homework it won't be that difficult, but seriously study hard.
She's great, only problem is the way she teaches content. Half the class was lecture videos, which the way it was set up made it harder than it should. Half the time the video links wouldn't work so you're constantly having to refresh the page every five minutes to keep watching the lecture video. Great teacher, but teaching method not so strong.
The professor demonstrated excellent online teaching abilities, with a clear and organized presentation of course materials, facilitating an easy learning experience for students who engaged with the provided weekly content. :)
Katrina is great! Looking back, the class wasn't overwhelmingly hard. Being introduced to the material for the first time is challenging, but doing the homework is so important! The quiz and tests are heavily based on the homework, so complete it thoroughly. She is such a sweet and intelligent professor, who's made calculus easy to understand :)
I took Topolinski for Precalculus and I wasn't disappointed the class was pretty hard but her and the Embedded class tutor were amazing help, the lectures were long videos you'd watch before class and during class you'd do practice problems at the end of every class there was a quiz and a large test at the end of every chapter, she was amazing 10/10
Prof. Topolinski is hit-or-miss - the content can be tough, but office hours are super helpful. Definitely do the optional homework and use Unstuck study for easy test prep. Overall a challenging but manageable class.
Honestly one of the most difficult math classes i've ever taken. She is very sweet and kind but still a very tough class to get above a C. Basically every student got 60% average each test. Insanely hard quizzes every class, 4 exams + final. There are 2-3 hour long lectures before class and an assignment. Dont recommend if you need a good grade.
Lectures aren't helpful at all
i absolutely love prof. topolinski; she was extremely kind and really cared about her students. however, her class is very difficult and should be your #1 priority if you're looking to get a good grade. there are quizzes every week, with 4 exams and a final. if you want to succeed, do the optional homework problems that she provides and STUDY.
Katrina is an awesome professor! She cares about her students and wants them to do well! She is very available outside of class and offers extra credit for staying to do work. She encouraged group work and is very patient when explaining things you don't understand.
Very kind professor and a semi-light workload. Grade is mostly based on 4 tests and a final. If you keep up with the weekly homework assignments and quizzes, you'll be fine. Take her!!!!!
The professor is polite, but the course is poorly organized with no clear study guide. Instruction depends on old recorded videos, with no live Zoom lectures or real-time guidance. The class is almost entirely self-study, yet exams include material no clearly emphasized, making it difficult to prepare and succeed.
This class is online and mostly self-paced. Lectures aren't frrom the professor they use someone else's and add publishers videos that are 20 years old. I would recommend using the videos online from Pearson to help fill in the gaps. It's important to stay on top of homework because late work is graded at 50% and that'll mess up your averages.
