Hard, but Fair. No Surprises, Just Study Everything. Did learn a lot though!

awesome teacher
Good teacher-hard---just answer all test questions with her words not yours
No Comments
If you don't know your stuff exactly the way she says it you don't have a chance. Don't even bother taking the course if your not prepared for definition, short answer, and essay tests. Very Helpful. Clear and to the point. Study or you'll be embarrassed.
Helpful if you go to her office, but intimidating in class. Must know things word for word. Hates men with a passion. If you ask a ? in class she will make you feel stupid. Annoying voice. Does clearly present info with good examples.
she is really fair and she will help you out as much as she can, if you go to her office hours. her class is no joke, you need to study for it! she is very clear on what you need to know as well, just go to class and take great notes.
She is real tough on you, but she is very fair and very clear. Just study the notes but pay attention tot he definitions word for word. You'll be fine.
Great Professor, she will go out of her way anytime to help anyone if you go to see her. Tests are hard as hell, but she will tell you everything that you need to know. Know the defintions word for word
My favorite teacher in all of my time at WCU... because i learned so much, and i still remember all of the info from that class til this day.Tests are long and kinda hard, but if you study the info given, you will do fine.
Bar none the best crj professor i ever had.
gives no breaks, test are harder than they should be, very unfair grading
Why does everybody seem to like this woman? She is mean and the hardest teacher I have ever had! Plus, she hates guys. I would say not to take her but she teaches 2 of the 3 sections for 300 so good luck not HAVING to take this wretched, miserable wo
she is very tough and makes you work for your grade but leaves you with a feeling of accomplishment.you learn alot.she is very lively with her stories.she doesnt hate men.she is one of those teachers that wants you to do well only if you work for it.
Hardest class ever!!! Even with studying hour after hour, still did bad on tests. It should be a grad class not a undergrad. Hope u have a good memory, b/c if not, you'll fail!
Kauffman is the heardest teacher I have ever had and I beleive that she teaches her class more like a grad class then undergrad. I would never recomend anyone to take her because her tests are very difficult and she is just really mean and unfair teacher
This teacher is ridiculously hard. For the first time students taking her, you will take this course again!!! Ask her all the questions, study all the notes but you will still fail miserably!!
This prof. is terribly difficult, she let's her ego get in the way of her teaching. She teaches the class like it's a law school class. I wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone with any class that she teachs. Terribly teaching techniques, and is not willing to help at all. She gives no breaks!
she is killing WCU reputation for the sane.
She is no joke but is a GREAT Prof. You have to take ALOT of notes, her tests are all essay & she wants things written EXACTLY. If you attend class & take GREAT notes, you can pass. Her teaching style really makes the info come to life. She is also very helpful, but you have to go to her.
Kauffman is the devil. The hardest class I EVER TOOK...
Really is a fantastic professor. YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK. Excellent preparation for grad school. Don't worry if you have to take the class again (most do). Know EVERY WORD that she says for the test. For essays on test: be very clear and CONCISE. will lose points on the essays and short answer.
Doesnt like her male students, very hard on purpose so you have to take the class again. Get a clue. this isnt law school
There is a thing called work and thats what you have to do for this class. best professor so far. she doesnt mess around. you really need to participate and attend every class. so many kids have to take it two times but thats just stupid. everyone should pass first time if they really try.
Greatest Prof i have ever taken..tough class, she gets to the point..most of what comes outta her mouth is meaningful!write down everything that she spits out of her mouth..im not kidding!she prepares u only for the best!always study weeks in advance for her tests not last minute..chances r ull fail
This is the hardest class you will ever take. I was scared out of my mind to take it, but I am so happy that I took it with her. She is the best teacher I have ever had. She will make you learn something and know it forever. Remember her office hours are always there, I suggest going, asking man
the hardest class at west chester. also the best teacher i ever had though. study everything that is on the study guides word for word and all the examples from class and the class will be easier and also do not miss a single class.
Do not take her if you plan on grad. on time. Her test are impossible. I cant believe she doesnt get complaints for all the people she holds back. I took shcenker and at the same time had a class reunion. Take Shcenker!!!!!!!
We pay tuition therefore a C should be awarded to those students who show for class and put forward the effort to succeed. Her class is keeping many students from their desired graduation dates. Great professor, intelligent woman, but her unfair tests are made for law students.
Hardest class I took at WCU - but also the best class. This is meant to prepare you for the real world people - police, law school, whatever you do. Study hard and stop whining. Her antics are done for a reason - to get her point across and help you learn. She only wants the students to succeed.
The class is definitely the hardest crim. class you will take. She is brilliant and knows her stuff. Just make sure to study in advance, take good notes, and attend class. Her tests are hard but it's everything you learn in class.
This class was very hard. You have to write 6 reviews a week, but there are no tests. She is very hard on grading. Hard class in general... do not suggest taking it, and if you do, do not buy the books, you do not use them... EVER!
This is by far the best teacher I've ever had. She's tough, but as long as you write down everything she says, attend class & study your butt off, you'll be fine. Remember to ask questions & participate & to study the examples she went over in class!
I don't understand why Schenker isn't a full-time faculty and Kauffman is. There are more demands for Schenker's classes than hers. I wish I didn't take Kauffman's in the first place and waited for Schenker's instead. He was actually helpful, clear, and wanted his students to do well. Take Schenker if you can.
This class is a definite change. No tests, but instead you have to write 6 article reviews and week and do an hour presentation. The class is all based on group discussion rather than a lecture setting. The material is definitely interesting and the speakers are enjoyable.

spare the drama and cut to the chase. teach and not act ok?
This class is hard, the teacher is rough, but when you finish the class you will feel pretty damn good about urself. I mean we are criminal justice majors. & should kno this stuff word by word. & thats what she expects. Study in advance& take the most detailed notes of your life and you'll be fine. Shes a really interesting lady.but expect to work!
do me a favor and please take schenker and stay away from her. you would be much better off with him. i wish someone told me this sooner thanks for reading, guys. goodluck.
She is a man hater, especially athletes, guys stay away.
ok stop freaking out. because i know all of you think shes this crazy ****, but really it was one of the best classes ive had here. I think shes awesome. as long as you memorize, youll do fine. its really not THAT bad!
you will never forget criminal law that's for sure. Great professor. Horrible personality.
she sounds like she knows her stuff. she has an unusual habbit which is distracting and makes us question her ment. soundness, i.e.)spitting and she once wet her self in class
Hardest class i have ever taken and i took it twice to be exact lol. At first i hated the woman but the 2nd time time around i realized i would have to work for a passing grade which i got. If you go to her she will help you do it...................
had her for crm law and women and crimes. later i dropped both and ended up with part-time status but i had to do what i did. it's that bad. ****...
drama digger. unprofessional mania
A disgrace as a professor. Hates men. Grades awfully. Does not know to interact with the human race. Unprofessional. A major blemish on this department. Class was supposed to be about women in the CJ system, instead it was male bashing. Took points off for someone who had a baby during class time. Tue story!!!
She has the worst personality of any professor that I have ever had. She does hate men, but if you listen to her tone, she sounds like she has been victim to a crime before. She wants us to learn to make a difference. If you enter that class with that frame of mind you might just pass. Expect to work harder in this class then you ever have before!
One of the best, most straight-forward teachers I've ever had at West Chester. I can't even understand why some people have trouble with her, it's not even hard. She wants everyone to learn, and will fail you if you don't - and I think that's very fair. Just go to class and memorize your notes word for word and you'll be fine.
This is a really good professor!! You just have to memorize every single word that comes out of her mouth cus u'll see it again!!! If she says its important...MEMORIZE IT WORD FOR WORD! pay attn to all the stories where she kills her husband cus the story may be used later
Let the guessing games begin! Because if you dont answer her questions, she will wait all class. She is fair, but it is true, you must memorize evrything she says and all her notes to even pass. If your word for word memory is not up to par, practice!
She's not kidding when she says to start studying a couple of weeks before the exams. Show up to class! It's hard to catch up if you're absent. Participate a lot-it helps your final grade.
She will tell you you need to know your stuff, but she will instantly "draw blanks." She constantly reads off of the study guide and gives long confusing interpretations of laws through her examples of killing her husband and son. Uses obsolete notes that are not updated. Memorization is KEY in this class. Start studying now with repetition.
It may be a difficult course, but i think she makes it so easy to understand what the book has a hard time explaining. Read the book. Go to class. Memorize what she says and you will do fine. No matter what your grade ends up being, you will know the material. She drills it into you.
Extremely hard tests. You will need to go over the material every day. Take it very seriously. Tests are cumulative. Enjoyable class most of the time, though. She's had a lot of experience and knows what she is talking about. I've had to take it twice myself.
SHE IS INCREDIBLY HARD! BUT SHE WILL MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF! A "HARDASS" TEACHER BUT SHE WILL GO TO BAT FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE, AND WILL PROVIDE SOUND ADVICE ON ACHIEVING SUCCESS! she has her own opinions and she will make them known but don't let it get to you. stand your ground and support your position and she will respect you.
Extremely hard teacher and class but if you study hard and pay attention in class and write down everything she says you should at least get a C. She does not give eny help with grades though so what you earn is what you earn
Her test are not just hard to pass, but its impossible to pass. she will make sure you take the calss twice, which i think is a good busniss for school, her tests are made for law school students not for criminal jutice student,
Man O man... Kauffman is Coo coo for cocoa puffs. But I must admit you learn A LOT. This course is intense, you must STUDY hard! Don't just remember everything, apply them and create scenarios etc. Go to her office hours, do not be scared!!!
you learn a lot but holy moly .. best advice is you gotta study your butt off and you NEED to understand the information. the essays for her tests must be precise and you cannotttt b.s them! pulled 4 all nighters for this woman and only managed a B- .. try to get notes from previous students they'll really help
i agree with everything the person before me said. she's very tough but you got to study like hell to pass. you do learn a lot, that's for sure. it really help to participate in class so she remembers your name. literally know the material and you can't BS her at all on the tests [do the essays first because they're worth more]
By far the toughest class I have taken in my almost 4 years of college. She will teach you the material and make it very clear if you show up so attendance is key. Take notes, type them up, and study them every night. Got an A after a lot of work and studying. Be careful what you say if you're not a liberal though.
I took her twice, the first time after not passing her, I hated her, but second time when I took her I came to relalize that she is really helpfull and tries her best to help her students, I learn a lot from her class she knows her stuff, but her tests are WOW I spent every day in the library just studyin for her class, you can not B.S in her tests!
She is a really good teacher in the way that she makes you know the material. Study harder then you ever have before, until you feel like your brain will explode and you will pass
I understand you have to study hard but she is just plain rude and disrespectful. While the material is awesome she is horrible. I feel bad for future CRJ majors and minors because they won't even let a person with a soul teach the course but her. Its sad.
Very interesting class. Learned a lot from taking it with her. She is tough, so ask questions and make sure you understand the material. Study hard, and memorize. Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Kuaffman is a hard techer I will say that but she is passable. Go to class, participate, and STUDY, I mean S-T-U-D-Y!! and you'll pass. I managed a B-
Kauffman is very tough, but she is a really good teacher because you come out of class really knowing the material and she not only teaches it to you but teaches you how to apply it. Go to every class, write down everything she says, go home type it up into an outline and study atleast a week or two before an exam, I passed the first time taking it
Avoid this class.Over half the class dropped the class after the first day. The workload is outrageous for an elective.6 pages of article reviews a week on the same issues (repeating week after week) and a 15 page paper placed somewhere near the end (without a break). The work is not worth the little amount of stuff you learn. Take another elective.
Whoever takes her please I beg of you, you will never take your eye off a computer screen ever again. You could stay up for 8 and a half hours through the night and she will give you a C on everything you did. I have to take her next semester. I wish you and myself luck. :-)
I LOVE HER! EVERYONE SAYS SHES MEAN AND EVIL BUT HELLO SHE IS A LAWYER! HER LECTURES ARE AWESOME BECAUSE SHE GIVES YOU REAL LIFE SCENARIOS TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL. YOU WILL NOT PASS IF YOU DO NOT TAKE KEEN NOTES,STUDY EXTREMELY HARD, AND ATTEND CLASS. SHE IS NOT ONE FOR THE BS! LEARNED A LOT FROM HER. SHE IS GREAT.
OK she is a hard teacher. I would start to study 2 weeks in advance. Make sure you write down word for word what she says, makes it so much easier in the end. Never miss class and just pay attention the class is very interesting and you learn so much
Law is a really hard class if you dont put the time into it, Kauffman pretty much gives you most if not everything you need to do well in her class but you have to put the time in and study well in advance for her exams or you will be screwed. The woman knows her stuff and has seen and done a lot. If nothing you learn a whole lot in only 15 weeks
Very easy professor. All you have to do is go to class and take good notes and you'll get an A. Just memorize everything word for word and you'll do great. No slacking allowed.
Pretty sure this professor is completely insane. Asking her a question and then seeing the look she gives 90% of the time (like she doesn't know why you're asking it) is quite possibly the most frustrating thing in history. If there is a different professor available, please take them over Kaufman.
If you're looking for an easy class this is NOT it. If you want to learn a lot about Law- this is perfect for you. Her lectures are extremely important. You cannot miss a single class. Your note taking must be extremely keen, and you will want to pay close attention to the examples she gives. Yes her tests are HARD but they do CHALLANGE you!
If I had to recommend this course to anyone I say take it. This is an easy A course if you attend all classes and do what is expected. participation is huge part of your grade. If your a person that participates you'll do fine in this course. This course is based on everyday life experiences that people go through.
Best class I have ever had at WCU. Dr. Kauffman makes class interesting and you will learn a lot. How to get an A: Go to every class, write down everything she says even if it may not sound important, make note cards for every definition/rule/ or concept that she gives you and memorize them WORD FOR WORD. I kind of want to be a lawyer now.
Even though professor kauffman is tough, she is a great teacher. Definatly my favorite professor yet. She makes class interesting I had her for criminal law and interpersonal relations. She is actually a really caring person. She made me want to be a lawyer. LOVE HER!!!!!!!
Dr.Kauffman is an extremely smart woman and very interesting. She makes her opinion know which can we a little annoying if you don't agree with her. Best advice is to study literally everything that comes out of her mouth.
CRJ 300 is the toughest class I ever had. I studied for weeks and still managed to fail miserably. Her tests made me want to drop out of college. Needless to say it must of been my own fault I failed her class because a lot of other people passed with B's....
Wait for someone else to teach the class or you will regret it.
YOU NEED TO :: go to class, write down everything she says, start studying weeks before the exam, and know the definitionselements WORD FOR WORD. She gives you all the materials you need to do well, so use them and stop complaining about how hard it is. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn. I ended up getting an A.
The class itself is very easy and straightforward. It is almost like a therapy session once a week. You meet good people, like really get to meet them on a personal level. HOWEVER, this class is the most writing intensive class I have ever taken even more than a writing emphasis (don't know why it isn't). Do not take with more than 15 credits.
If your smart, you can pass her classes. She hates when people give dumb answers, so if your stupid, do not participate. This is not a class where you can slack, you need to put effort into studying and you will do fine on the exams.
I got 3 test scores of 95,l89.93 somehow managed a C I showed up and participated in every class. I would argue certain things she presented as they were clearly misrepresented to push her liberal agenda. ie. the case involving a girl who shot up a mall. (she labels the weapon incorrectly and talks for what seems like forever on the banning of assault rifles.) Read the article when it is passed around.
Dr. Kauffman is an extremely helpful professor. She was so willing to work with me when I was nervous about the tests. She is a completely different person during her office hours as opposed to in the classroom. She's more laid back&welcoming in her office. You need to go to class&write everything she says. Participate and study weeks in advance!
This class is not as bad as everyone says. Dr. Kauffman is one of the best professors that I have ever had. There are three test which are 90% of our grade and the 10% comes from participation. You must participate and read because it will help you in the end. Stay on top of everything and study well for each examine. You will learn a lot!
Worst teacher. Right up there with jack waber. She's hostile and does not respect students. Picks favorites and if you're not one of them you should just drop. The tests are written for those who already have a law degree and if you don't use her exact wording then she'll mark it wrong.
1. Show up to every class. 2. Take exceptional notes. (This is 95% of the class) 3. Study those notes 2 weeks before test. 4. YMMV, but that should insure an A or B.
Tough grader, attendance is mandatory and participation is required. There is also a lot of research and group activities.
Class is hard as hell, teacher was very arrogant. She needs to loosen up. Tests were way to difficult. Half my class had to repeat her. Moody and smart-mouthed
This class is the hardest class I've ever taken. In order to pass you must 1. Come to EVERY CLASS 2. Take very good notes 3. Study at least 2 weeks in advance. 4. STUDY STUDY STUDY! Everything she says is going to be on the test. You have to remember definitions verbatim and you must participate if you want to earn full participation points.
U will run class. No exams, but hmwk takes hours. Not what I expected. only 1 guest speakr, group projs, fight 4 participation points, no documentaries. Age disconnect nd on a power trip. Will force you 2 meet with her 2 micromanage, not 2 help nd has yelled at class nd is not embarrassed 2, loses the point in rants. easy if u can put up with it.
