She is a very nice person, always smiling. Her accent is very thick, but if you just listen and pay attention, you can understand the material. Her tests are super easy and reasonable. I would recommend taking her class
Micro is suppose to be interesting, she makes it so boring. Just reads off slides which you can't even understand what she is saying.. Class sucks but you HAVE to go if you want a good grade because she writes things on the board that will be on the test. Don't study the book, just MEMORIZE the packets bc the tests come straight from there
Let me give you a taste of her final exam. Comprehensive. 26 chapters. Over 200 pages of extremely vague powerpoint slides. NO study guide. No curve given. NO extra credit. If that's the final, imagine how miserable the entire semester was.
She has a very thick accent which meant I had to rely on the book for the first 1/2 of the semester. Her tests were fair but there were questions that were never covered in the book or class. She gives pop quizzes, only four through out the semester, and doesn't drop one. Lab is easy but requires you to go in outside of class/lab hours.
THE CLASS IS NOT THAT BAD! As long as you study your slides the test are verbatim! It is hard to understand her but she is really nice one on one!
She is a great person. Its almost scary but she can match everyones name to there face in a class of over 200. She doenst require the book and you dont need it! I am currently making an A in her class (Spring 2013) and all i do is study her notes. Like i said she is extremely nice and willing to help. You are more than a number to her!
She is amazingly EASY. I never go to class and have gotten a's on all the exams so far. all you have to do is memorize the slides she goes over in class. her slides are fill in the blank so if you dont have a friend in the class then you need to attend. I only read over the summaries in each chapter. TAKE HER!!!!
I do not recommend this teacher at all. She is not very helpful during lecture or during office hours. The material on her notes are extremely vague and confusing. Good luck.
Kakirde is a great professor! If you follow along, write down the fill in the blank, & what she writes on the board, & review your notes, you will do fine! You get extra credit just for showing up, so show up! She knows everyones name in a class of 200, and her accent isn't that bad. She is a nice professor, and she cares.
I cannot stress this enough: Every points in this class AND in the micro lab counts! Your grade for the lecture is the lecture + lab combined. Study the lecture notes Dr. Kakirde uploads online. Go to her office hours if you need it.
Very good professor! She weirdly can recall students' names without much prior conversation. While she reads off of her powerpoints, she elaborates what is on them and repeats them to make sure they are understood. Textbook not needed. Drops lowest test grade. Show up for class, pay attention, take good notes, and you'll succeed with her.
She is my favorite teacher at Texas State! The 2nd and 3rd exams are more difficult but if you study the lectures and can apply them you will be fine! The final is pretty easy, very basic things are asked. She is very helpful and funny. I loved this class
She doesn't require a textbook, the tests are strictly from the notes. If you regularly review the lecture notes this class is a breeze! She's willing to help the class out when the test average is low by adding an bonus quiz to boost the grades. I recommend her!!
Dr. Kakirde is a good professor. I wouldn't say she is great for a couple of reasons. It is hard to understand what she is saying some times, and it seems like the really important things she goes over very quickly. She is a very nice lady and pleasant to talk to. Just go to class a pay close attention and you sill do fine.
She's a good professor and a sweet lady. I admittedly made a C because I put in minimal effort. If you try a little, you can get a B or higher. Clear criteria and tests are not too hard. Her accent is a little hard to understand sometimes, but she will always clarify if you ask.
Dr. Kakirde made me fall in love with Biology. He lectures are long and filled with loads of information but shes passionate about what she teaches. Go to class, take notes, and study (I highly recommend flashcards) and you'll do fine. Also don't mess up in the Lab because it's 25% of your overall grade.
She was a very good professor. Lectures are very thorough and clearly explained. Her accent is not as heavy as some reviewers are making it out to be. Gives study objectives that outline what is going to be on the test. Never put anything on a test that wasn't in the objectives. The final is comprehensive, but doable if you don't cram.
Very hard to understand and doesn't respond to emails when she encourages you to email her. Also she takes her time posting grades. She puts her lectures on slideshows and its strongly encouraged to print them before class, but are made available at the last minute and only give you enough information to get a B on the tests.
Dr. Kakirde is a wonderful professor. She was always at her office hours when i needed to ask her questions about lecture. She was for the most part always on time with starting lecture. She is very detailed about each topics she covers. The material covered was a lot but if you keep up and review it every week you should be fine!
Dr. K's class was probably the hardest class I took here and not because of the subject. She has a very strong accent that makes it hard to understand her at times. The powerpoints are always not detailed just bullet form. Every test feels like a final there over about six chapters each. I learned more in lab than I did in class.
Dr. K was a really great biology teacher. She does have an accent but it is not bad at all. She spreads the material out to where you are not tested over large amount of material at once. As long as you go to lecture and do the reviews you should be fine. He powerpoint are very point blanks and the top hat questions will boost you grade.
Heavy accent but if she repeats herself (rare) you might understand. I found her exams fair to her powerpoints. 10 quizzes DO NOT MISS THEM (she does not drop. Lab is important. Her pregnancy made me trouble a lot more because the substitute professor was harder (for me). But she is nice in the end and curves if you have 89.45% or higher.
She's so hard to understand and gives the most boring lectures ever. It's nearly impossible to pay attention. I only went to class for the top hat points. Tests are made straight from the review she posts and are really easy. All you have to do is read through the review a couple of times and it should be an easy A.
Dr. Kakirde is probably my favorite professor EVER. She's super clear about what you need to know. I haven't touched the book, all of her test material is in her notes so COME TO CLASS. This is not a class that you can just cram for, so study well in advance. There are quizzes almost every week so keep up with those. No HW. It is a lot of info.
Dr. Kakirde is overall a very decent professor . Her only downfall being her accent is a little rough . I would recommended sitting close to the front so you can hear . She tends to go fast so print out notes and the book wasn't necessary . Study a lot for exams they test a lot of details .
This prof is so rude. She will stop class for several minutes to tell someone to stop talking. She will call you out in front of everyone if you do show up late (again, stops class.) Usually, accents are something you get used to but, i couldn't. maybe you can. i do not recommend her. she puts her slides online, only go to class for tophat points
there's a lot of material in the lecture. Not everything you learn or go over will be on the test. She's quite weird during office hours. Kakirde can be rude; she didn't respond to my email (when sent with proper heading and at a decent time), but instead waited for test day to answer my question AFTER my test, which was also snatched from me.
I enjoyed her lectures. I wouldn't recommend skipping class as she mentions what she wants you to know and not know for the test during lecture. Some people have a hard time with her accent so sit close so you can hear her better. If you can team up with your classmates it makes a huge difference. Overall I feel like I learned a lot in the class.
She is ok i guess. Her lectures are a little boring through, they are powerpoint slides which she read off and gives good examples. 3 exams including the final, lowest grade gets dropped.
I recorded her lectures and listened to them over and over. I wasn't able make out what she was saying on the recording. I went to her office hours and wasn't willing to explain to me what the slide covered. Her exams are very detailed and specific. Her most important information will be said and NOT on her slides. I recommend rec. fast talker.
It is seen right away that she is highly respected and very intimidating. Over all she is an amazing professor and will give you her undivided attention during office hours. Her class was okay but DO study and watch assigned videos. Doesn't require a textbook .
Overall she is a good professor. Biology is not my strongest, but her grading criteria is pretty straightforward. Attendance is not mandatory but offers top hat bonus points. She does read off the slides but gives examples. Just attend class and study the power points and this should be an ok class.
Kakirde was very clear on her expectations for her class and provided all the powerpoints and lecture notes needed to study for her exams! Microbio is already a lot of information to get down, but she makes it fun and interesting. Super nice as a person
She isn't really bad. It's the tests. The questions are designed to make you second guess yourself unless you really know the material inside and out. The answer choices are usually A, B, C, A and C, or all of the above. Material comes from her lectures, but anything, no matter how small a detail, is fair game. First C and already took genetics.
ABSOLYTE WORST PROFESSOR. she talks way to fast and you'll almost never learn anything. she does not help with anything. I cannot stress this enough she is absolutely the worst. she talks a million miles per hour. her tests are online and if you are not used to that well then you're out of luck. She gives no extra credit.
Overall a very mediocre professor. TALKS CRAZY FAST and is difficult to follow during lecture. Everything is on PowerPoint and contains an insane amount of detail. The test are hard too and she doesnt give a study guide so you have to study a ton of slides that have so much information on them. The lab is also a hassle. Take anyone else if you can
She talks crazy fast, but if you print out the notes before hand it'll be easier to follow along. she hand draws diagrams that explain key functions/definitions on the powerpoint that are not defined for you. She gives extra credit ONLY through top hat, so you must attend lecture. Tests are hard and online; she is nice but become self reliant.
This class is not hard but Dr. Kakirde is not a good professor. She talks so fast and the test are very difficult. She is not helpful at all and doesnt not offer extra credit or curve. She is also rude. Overall I feel like I have learned nothing. I basically tried my hardest to memorize information off of hundreds of slides. Would not recommend.
Dr. K is very knowledgable ab this subject and really wants you to work for it. Honestly, I studied so much for this course, never skipped class, and still got a C. Her lectures can be very boring but she posts all of her powerpoints. The tests are very hard and she tries to trick you in the way she asks questions which I didn't really appreciate..
Kakirde gives you all of the resources required to be successful in her class. As long as you take notes and understand her provided learning objectives in detail, you will be successful on all exams. I do recommend sitting closer to the front of the class because she talks a little fast and is sometimes hard to understand.
Very difficult to understand, not very kind. Very strict, hard grader. Asks questions in a way meant to trick you. Her lab is even worse. Unorganized, confusing, and graded even harsher. Not a fun class, not super difficult concepts but everything about her class makes it harder than it needs to be.
Dr. K makes micro so much harder than it needs to be. The lectures are boring, the lab is ridiculous. The exams will be at least 50% material she never mentioned. She seems like a nice person, and she's very knowledgeable about the material. But unfortunately (like many college professors) she just isn't a good teacher.
Honestly a solid professor for microbiology! Shes very intelligent in the field and it was easy to learn such a difficult topic from her. I think a lot of people on here are mad about how hard the class actually was but take it out on Dr. K. This was one of the hardest classes I took but I am grateful for the valuable information I took away!
Worst teacher I've ever had at Texas State. Doesn't care what the students have to say. Don't bother asking her to round your grade because she doesn't even if you're a point away to another letter grade. All though she is really nice, she is very strict. If you could take Microbiology somewhere else or with a different professor do so.
Dr. K. is very knowledgeable and cares about delivering the material effectively. It's a TON of material, so you will get lost if you don't keep up. It's hard to learn but if you read, pay attention, and watch youtube videos, you'll get a B at least. Uses TopHat for homework, in-class questions, attendance, and exams, which I think is pretty good.
She's a very rigid and strict woman. The curriculum for microbiology is ridiculously demanding. Dr. Wilson used to run the bio 2400 classes and he was much more understanding. Don't even get me started on the lab... That class is passable but requires an absurd amount of work outside of class. She's a very dry lecturer.
She is super knowledgeable about micro and talks a lot and fast during lecture. Definitely need to take lots of notes to understand wtf is going on. Print out the lecture notes and the powerpoint. Tophat is used for in class questions and tests which is nice. Labs are lengthy but tie into the curriculum. As long as u show up and try you're good.
Dr. K is one of the best & nicest professors here. Lectures are critical so listen well, write down everything, or just record them. Everything on the exam is what she's gone over in lecture. Also, do not forget the HW online. You can get an A but it takes so much work. Just give it your best and you can pass. Don't be afraid to ask her stuff too!!
Dr. Kakirde has been my favorite professor here at Texas State. This class alone made me change my major to microbiology. Great mentor. As far as the class, go to class, be ambitious, and you will do find. I found a PDF of the recommended text and while it was not needed, there is some interesting stuff in there. Exams are not bad at all.
She is a good prof. Very lecturer heavy and if you do not attend or rewatch the lecturers, will struggle! Tests were VERY detailed & lots of "select all that apply" questions & no partial credit. Lab is required & I felt fair. Know lots of IAs were very unhelpful/rude. IAs reported students for plagiarism for having given charts on lab papers
Dr. Kakirde includes most of her test question from her lectures, so good notes are necessary. She will not make exceptions about late work unless you have a documented excuse. Her tests are difficult. Multiple answer questions are time consuming and very specific. Lab IA's can be harsh graders and expect your best effort on all of your assignments
My main concern from this course would be the IAs for lab, I personally felt that IAs graded quite harshly considering this was an online course being taught during a pandemic. During class we would do tophat questions which were helpful and a good break from lecture. Exams were very detailed so make sure to pay attention to what is said in lecture
Extremely difficult class. Her lectures are very in depth. the course itself is supposed to be hard, but I feel like there is much more she could do to help out the students. Her lab is EXTREMELY difficult and exams are even worse. You could know the material well but her questions are tough. Quizzes are even worse. Good luck getting the A.
Microbiology was a very hard online class. Exams and quizzes were pretty hard and there are a lot of notes. Labs were ridiculous, a paper was written over something we never did and IA's graded rough. With that said, Dr. Kakirde does what she can to help you. Ask her questions about quizzes, notes, tophat and study weekly or it will catch up to you
I liked Dr. K, she talked a little fast but it wasn't awful. She recorded and posted her lectures which was super helpful. We had some tophat questions every class, but even if you got the answer wrong you still got half credit. Overall a solid professor. Tests were a little hard but not bad if you study a little, plus she holds review sessions.
Dr. K was a fantastic professors, one of my favorites at Texas State so far. She really knows what she is talking about , is very knowledgeable, and is great about repeating or slowing down in lectures as needed. She has a bit of a thick accent but if you can understand accents fine, she makes material very clear and simple.
Taking Dr.K had to be the best choice i've made, her class was very exciting to listen to, she gives examples of the topics discussed. Microbiology is already a hard class but she really tries her best to get you to understand it. Her test were tricky but a lot comes from what she says, i know her accent is thick but her recorded lectures help
I really like the way Dr. Kakirde conducts her classes. Everything you need to succeed is provided to you, and she is always available to help out with any questions. Tophat for some extra credit points, and its also how she takes attendance. She is a good lecturer but does move fast sometimes, if she records the lectures make time to watch them!
I took her and she needs her entire job lost. She literally gives a 50 question test with only an hour 20 minutes, yes that may seem easy if multiple choice, but she has the questions that are select all that apply and not for the right answer but whats not the answer. Final 100 questions same way. She teaches broad but test are in depth.
Dr. K is such a sweet and smart lady! She cares so much about her students so always reach out when you're having trouble. Office hours are very helpful and be sure to stop her if you have questions, she will explain it again with no problem. Be sure to keep up with assignments, and BE SURE you study all the material for tests.
She is great & so knowledgeable! You need to apply yourself if you wanna do well, but otherwise she gives all the info you need for quizzes/exams. Write the things she says in class & study it. TopHat questions during class are easy points you can earn. Lots of opportunities to maybe fix your grade so just put forth effort if you want an A.
This class is hard due to the content covered, not this professor. Dr. Kakirde was a great professor. Her lectures were very interesting. She talks fast but if you tell her you missed something she will always go back. She asks the class every so often if they have any questions so no one falls behind. Tests are tough and very long.
Professor Kakirde is awesome!! She knows what she's doing and she literally can answer up to any random questions you have in mind as long as its micro related. She is a very caring person in general. Hard test but all tools were provided, you just HAVE TO WORK! Don't expect to ace an exam if you go to lectures and surf Reddit during her class.
All of the positive comments MUST be paid actors... This is the worst professor I have ever taken. I am a Biochem major and I have made A's in all of my hard classes thus far. I know this is a hard subject but this professor talks so fast that getting good notes are impossible. Tests are open note but impossible to pass!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
Worst class Ive ever taken. Trust me when I say take microbiology at a community college.
She is a sweet lady. That's about it. Her tests are impossible. The quizzes are also super hard. The slides and the notes she gives us are nothing compared to the tests to and the quizzes. Take her with caution.
She is very knowledgeable in microbiology and always allows students to ask questions. This subject is a hard one and you really have to work to get a good grade. You need to come to class and pay attention to lectures because a lot of the quizzes and tests are things she says in class, but not on the slides. Be prepared to work, but take her
Powerpoints were confusing and her lectures were long and hard to sit through
She's a good professor but you have to be able to really pay attention and study for her tests. A lot of questions are select all that apply. Generous with dropping grades, a test and a quiz are dropped. All tests are online
The class was interesting and professor kakirde is very smart and happy to answer questions. However, I studied more for this course than o chem 1 and 2 combined and barely scraped by. If you are looking into any sort of grad school where your science gpa matters, take with caution. You will learn a lot but it might still tank your gpa.
I thought Dr. Kakirde's class honestly was pretty easy. Most of the test materials come from the lectures she gives and we were allowed to use our notes on the tests. Just show up, take notes, and you'll be fine.
Extra credit offered was up to 127% on attendance worth 9% of the overall grade, and a quiz worth 10 points added to the final exam grade. Only one curve on a test was done because avg was below 70, added a few points. The lab was pretty time-consuming and fairly difficult. Tests were extraordinarily difficult and averages were 60's-low 70's
dr.k doesnt care about her students. her grading scale is ridiculous and not beneficial to students. she just wants to see her students fail. worst professor at txst . and If you email her twice she thinks you're attacking her with emails .
if I could rate her a 0/5 i would. I wasnt sure what her problem was until i saw how she reacted to the 2nd exam. in an email she said, "Exam 2 grades are bad" Im not sure if she feels good about herself when more than half of the class failed the exam. she makes no effort to make the quizzes and the exams easy for students.
One of the rudest and least understanding professors i've ever had. Does not care about student success, she likes to turn things against the whole class. I regret taking her, she's genuinely ruining my love for microbiology, if you care about your mental health, DON'T TAKE HER. She doesn't care what you have to say.
I am normally an A student and I ended this class with a C. The lectures were hard to sit thorough. There were 3 exams, all multiple choice, but they were extremally hard. The averages for the exam were always in the low 60s.
There is a lot of content in this class, so I don't understand the previous "she goes too fast" complaints. She is also available to answer questions, and records her lectures. Attendance is graded, and there are in class questions that are 10% of your grade, so plan to attend. Quizzes are open note, exams are not. Exams were definitely hard.
If you want to do well in this class be sure to attend. Do not follow just her powerpoints, but more so additional facts she says in lecture will be on the exam. She does talk fast, but her lectures are all recorded and uploaded. Lab was fun yet easy. Attendance is somewhat graded, as she has top hat questions she asks everyday that are graded.
Dr. Kakirde gave amazing lectures and supplied recordings of lectures and reviews. The second test is infamously the most difficult test being content heavy. The tests were not cumulative until the final. Would absolutely take her again as a proffessor. Note that tophat is a very important aspect to this class.
All around good professor. The exams are not that bad if you study her slides, but also remember what she says in class. It WILL be on the exam. She releases exam practice questions, which help prepare you. Not much extra credit, only offered on the final. Only curves exams if average is really bad, so only expect a curve on exam 2
I love Dr. Kakirde. I had surgery mid-semester, and she was very understanding and willing to help me do decent in the class. Make sure you attend lectures, but if you forget she posts recordings (still go, what she says in person that is not on the slides, is going to be on the exam).
My favorite professor, I've had by far. Lectures are interesting which really helps for people with short attention spans (me). All lectures are recorded, but still go to the lectures, because you won't pass if you don't go. Exams are lecture based, and difficult (expected for a class like this), but not terrible or super hard. Lab is fun. :)
She's alright--didn't curve the exams until the end of the semester where she added 4 points to each test. The tests are around 50 questions and generally difficult. Most questions are complex and require critical thinking. The powerpoints are just a skeleton to the lecture notes, so you should attend and write more notes. She also talks so fast
Professor Kakirde is knowledgeable, but her exams are extremely tough, and the practice questions don't align with the actual test. This makes it hard to prepare effectively and leaves students feeling unprepared. Better alignment between study materials and exams would greatly improve the learning experience.
You are given study guides, but those are not enough to prepare you for the exams. To do well, you must memorize every single thing said in lecture. Sometimes changes get made to grading and it is never really clear. If you genuinely enjoy the subject or care about your GPA, do not take this course. You need to treat it as if it is your only class
You MUST go to class to do well. Good professor, but exams are hard and not curved w no extra credit. Lab is fun and I got a high grade, but lecture was hard for me. The exams are VERY hard and require tons of studying, even if u go to every lecture. Attendance is required, and def needed to pass this class. Shes not good ab responding to emails!!
Dr. K is a sweet lady and her lectures are very organized. There is alot of bad reviews about her but don't let them scare you. As long as you study the material and attend her lectures every day, you'll do fine on the exams. Her recordings are helpful to note down material because everything she says in lecture will be on the exam.
You literally are allowed a note sheet (front and back) on the exam. I filled that thing to the brim and never studied. Never made less than an A on an exam. Lab is easy but tedious. As long as you make a good note sheet, you'll make an A.
Very professional and competent professor. She can be a bit quiet when lecturing, but other than that, she's a great lecturer. Attendance is not required, but in-class questions are for credit (can't do outside class). Exams are online in class, you get a cheat sheet.
The class is VERY lecture heavy, write as much as you can and do it fast (she talks very quickly). I tried my best in the class but I couldn't keep up with the material and its relation to the test. I emailed her at the end of finals if my grade could be raised half a point (0.5%) so I could pass the class but she denied it via class announcement.
She allows a full notebook page as a cheat sheet (front and back), just make sure to pay attention to her lecture since the slides by itself are not enough to pass her tests. Attendance is not graded but it is needed for TopHat points, which are graded. Try not to get behind and ask questions if you are confused.
Dr. K's class is straightforward if you pay attention and study the lecture material, as exams are based directly on it. She allows a double-sided cheat sheet, and with thorough review and a solid understanding of the topics (Quizlet helps!), you should do well.
GOODLUCK! Dr. Kakirde is a decent professor; she does lecture slides, but they are basically in her own words, so get ready to take lots of notes and make sure you have at least a week to study for her tests. tophat test but lockdown browser. Her lab is even worse which you will have to take open eneded 10Q quiz every lab and 100Q final
Dr. K is a good professor, but she can move very fast. She does in-class TopHat questions for a grade, which can't be done at home, but posts her lectures on Canvas. Exams are on TopHat with lockdown browser, and you can use a note sheet. In the lab, there are 10Q open-ended written quizzes every week, most students in my lab scored an avg of 4/10
I think she's a good teacher, the only thing is that she goes really fast in class, so it's hard to write notes. Her exams are not bad (on tophat lockdown), you get a cheat sheet front to back. One exam (3 midterms + 1 final) gets dropped. Honesty, her class is good, you have to go to lecture! Extra Credit on the tophat if you go to every class.
Dr. Kakirde is nice and likes student interaction. She moves through lecture pretty fast and tends to mumble the most important details for you to remember. Her exams are done in class on a lockdown browser, and you get a cheat sheet. The exams are heavily based on applications of information which makes them really tough
