Super easy lectures straight from the book which made exams very easy to prepare for. Very friendly Prof!
Very clear lectures, high expectations, hard marker concerning papers, but exam is exactly what she says it is. Tough, but clear. wouldnt recommend her if your expecting to boost your grade, unless you really want to bust your ass in the class.
Definately high expectations for the class & a tough marker on papers. Though she's willing to edit papers - just be sure to ask alot of specific questions like if you've met the objectives or if you should build on sections. Exam has alot of information to prepare but she tells you the questions.
Get off your high horse lady and start teaching!
2 Words - Awful, Awful

very nice and helpful. Knowledgeable.
Very well spoken & organized prof.No need to buy text. She gives each exam question prior to the lecture it corresponds with. She is willing to help with essays before hand, ask questions though.Kim the TA is awesome help! Very easy class ecspecially if youve taken soci of family and developmental psyc
She is a very HOT professor, in fact the hottest that I've had in psychology. A lot of the guys in the class are very attracted to her! She's also very clear and concise and a very nice person.
Other people who took this class with another prof claimed it was an easy class. However I found this prof to be a very tough marker, and the final exam was brutal. She DOES explain things clearly and gives great exam hints. But the midterms were also just as much work as the exam, but worth hardly anything! Overall, I was not impressed!
Great prof. Very well organized, speaks clearly, follows slides. She's always willing to help when approached, midterms and exams can be tough, but theres no surprises, its always based on what shes taught! Really enjoy her courses!
Unfair marking and missed a lot of class making it harder for the class to understand where we were. Memorizing 10 chapters for a final that should have only been 5-6 due to the amt. of class she missed. Not using Webct, giving us no notes, guidelines, no hints, absolutely nothing made it difficult. Waste of time/money and a horrible proff.
Looks evil and stuck up but she really isn't. To my surprise she was very approachable. I took her class in the summer and it was good. Her exams were fair and she will boost marks when needed. she is also organized and will explain everything well.
Worst Prof EVER!More interested in the fact that she has a PHD than teaching the class, thinks shes smart but just resites from the text book.I've never heard anyone say the word correlation so many times.EW!Would point out something specific and say it was on the exam and it wasn't.Full out tries 2 trick u.Completley unfair.Needs a hair straightner
She is a terrible professor. She takes forever to answer emails and writes the worst exams I have ever seen (They don't test your knowledge of the course at all). She emphasises things in class that do not appear on exams and she doesn't give you even the slightest idea of what material might appear on the exam. Awful professor.
Material on the exam had nothing to do with what she said, tested on things she said we would not be tested on. Missed 2 classes SO FAR - very unprofessional. Not willing to help outside of class, won't make appointments with students. Not one person on the midterm exam, out of 120 students, got higher than a 79%!!!! Horrible, horrible, horrible!!!
Kavita is a great professor! It's true, she does want to see her students do well in her classes. She is very helpful and understanding. I have taken a few classes with her and I hope to take at least one more before I graduate. Excellent, excellent professor! Take her courses!!!
Anyone being harsh when rating Kavita has obviously not been attending classes. She does rely on the book alot, but she adds quite a few research articles to the lecture, so if you do not attend class you miss the information. To then complain about being tested on information you missed is crazy. Kavita is organized, smart, intersting and fair.
Professor Prakash is great. She will always clarify something if you don't understand. People may not have done as well on the midterm as expected, but she did raise the marks (about 6 or 7% for most people) and gave us an opportunity to raise our marks with a bonus assignment. Have her for social development next semester and looking forward to it
She did explain things well and made concepts easy to understand. I'm not going to say shes a bad professor because shes not. However she wasnt helpful at all outside of class. I e-mailed her asking her to clarify something from the text and she told me to read it again because she said there was too much to type. She is lazy!
Writes the worst exams ever. I have been in two and have heard of another class where she had to raise the midterm marks because they were so low. There was one oart of the textbook that she said not to worry about and asked 3-4 questions about it on the exam. Exam questions are on stuff she didn't cover in class and were only in the textbook. BAD
3505 overall was not such a great class...I love Kavita as a prof but her exams were terrible...the TA for this class was brutal....she cannot mark research papers for anything! She does not respond to emails and she is not helpful at all....I would still take another class with Kavita tho...just not this one !!
I have to disagree with the last person. Kavita is a nice person, but not a very good prof. There is nothing wrong with being challenging, but when no one in the class gets a "A" on the midterm, that is too challenging. The exams are not particularly hard, but are poorly written with confusing questions and multiple answers that could be right.
She is a horrible prof. Has no idea how to teach. Her exams are poorly written and she takes forever to answer emails. Also very unprofessional in that she misses at least 3 classes in every semester. She is a nic person, but has absolutely no business teaching. Avoid her classes like the plague.
I am not sure why people are being so harsh with Kavita. She is a very organized prof who answers emails right away and is always willing to help. If she misses classes, she gets a replacement. What's the big deal? People complained in this class because the material was harder and they expect grades handed to them. It is a 3rd year class!
Had her for 3 classes so far. First class was really difficult, especially for something I already had a background in and found the class to be unfair (PSYC2500). Both other classes were well taught and very good (PSYC 3507 and 2001) Would definately take another class with her!!!
This class was amazing. Kavita explained things really well and made it so interesting. I have never learmed so much in a course. Yes, you have to really work for your grade, but it is 3rd year. I would take every course with her if I could.
her tests were so impossible that she had to give us 10% more for each. The TA was terrible too. Kavita is a nice lady..not a very good prof.
nice lady..but her class is the reason i started hating school again. tests are too hard, reads her lecture notes..no enthusiasm. maybe with experience she will get better...
I am not sure if the other raters are talking about the same person! Kavita is amazing. She explains things really well, is enthusiastic and knows her stuff! I LOVED this class. You have to really work for your grade, but she helps you when you need it. I highly recommend you take this course with her.
I had Kavita for Psyc 2001, 2500 and 2600. In each course she was away for at least 1 lecture, which I cannot complain about! In her summer courses she skips a few chapters which is great! She never lectures for the full 3 hours (an hour and a half - 2 hours is typical lecture length) Dont skip class and you will do great! Awesome prof!
whatever you do, don't take exceptional children with this prof. Her TA marked the papers unfairly and her tests were brutal. Enjoyed her lectures...nice lady...but horrible class...
I took developmental with her and liked her but in social development, she let her TA mark the papers and he was horrible! But she herself is a good professor and goes at a slow pace. she gives you hints to questions that are going to be on the exam and exactly how she wants them answered so you can't go wrong there.
I am currently in this class with Dr.Prakash and I love it!!! She is alot of fun, explains things really well and is very understanding. You have to meet deadlines in this class or there is a penalty, but at least she is fair about it and applies the deadline to everyone. She gives exam questions in advance and lots of hints!
Amazing Proff, Yes you have to work for your grade, but its pretty hard to do bad if you attend the lectures. NO TEXTBOOK! All exam questions are given ahead of time, how much easier can it get?! Kavita is a really nice lady and is prompt with answering questions.. the TA's were a little unfair but they are reasonable in reviewing grades.
THIS PROF SUCKS! She skipped class once, she is ONLY available the same say as clas which sucks, she doesnt answer emails during the evening or on weekends annnnd she is the hardest marker....do NOT take her class. She also only focuses on her own research which is again really annoying! :(
The last rater was crazy! Professors should not be expected to work 24/7. She was stuck in traffic one day and gave us an extension on our assignment. She IS a hard marker but is upfront about it and gives you everything you need to do well. Her research is on shyness but she also talked about bullying, self esteem etc. A GREAT CLASS/PROF!!
She is very intelligent and knows what she is talking about. Her class is difficult, but if you ask questions she'll know the answer. A "by the book" kind of prof. Stays on topic and is professional. I'd take her again.
I tried so hard in this class, yet nothing seemed to be good enough. Numerous times I got my paper reviewed with suggestions for changes, yet the final result was barely a pass.. 60%. The most frustrating thing was she scratched things out in my paper that were 'irrelevant' yet she suggested I structure it that way.
Just to clarify, the last rater must have this professor mixed up with someone else. She has not taught Psychology 2100 in years.
Nice lady, very professional. TA thought he has the real deal which was irritating. Knows the material very well, but can't help but get the sense she's only there for her own research. Exams are excessively long and repetitive. Tough marker.
This was an excellent class. Kavita was clear and concise, and went at the perfect pace to write everything down. Midterms and exams were fair; if you attended every class and put in a couple of days study for the final you could get a great mark. Completely reccommend it.
Not a bad teacher, but not particularly interesting. Huge tests with too many questions, many of which are repetitive. Had two midterms, then a cumulative final! Stupid.
For a summer course, I really appreciated that she let us leave (mostly) 1.5-2 hours in instead of going the full 3. The subject matter was easy and she was very clear. However, her assignments are painfully precise and you can lose points for very small things. And her exams are relatively easy but VERY repetitive. Easy enough class though.
I don't like the course itself but she does a great job of making it bearable. Amazing professor.
She managed to make 3 hour lectures bearable, and was very helpful as she related the topics we learned to real life. I hardly had to refer to the text book since her lectures were so clear and informative. Amazing prof!
Amazing prof! Very clear, informative. Right to the point, most days ended lecture early. Very fair. tests were multiple choice.. Would def take her class again!
I really enjoyed Kavita's class, she was good at keeping things interesting and I felt like her class always flew by.
really good prof, would be nice if she used the mic but still had a pretty loud voice. her slides were really good short and sweet but she would give you everything you needed during the lecture to cover the material. her exams were really easy
I found the Instructor to be inconsistent with her marking and her feedback. Dr. Prakash was not available during her schedule office hours and would not make an appointment. Most of the class was done online and many classes were cut short. The instructor wanted to leave class early and was not amenable answering questions during class time.
lectures weren't too bad. Only one midterm and one exam for entire grade. Lectures were important to get key concepts.
AWFUL. Take this class if you want a horrible grade. Class average of 53 on a big assignment.
Kavita is a good prof who is able to communicate course material fairly clearly. Not a lot of tests and no assignments, so the workload is great for easing in to university should it be your first year. When you do have exams, they are multiple choice and very easy.
Very clear and enjoyable lectures.. However, Not understanding if a student has an illness or a circumstance of death she is very strict on following her syllabus "policies" regardless of the circumstance.. which is unfortunate I left this course un-inspired, and disappointed.
Kavita's class was my favourite class this semester. Her grading criteria is clear to what she expects and she's willing to answer any questions you may have. Her experience within the field made the class that much more interesting. Definitely take sports psychology with her!
Class was interesting to attend, and exams were straight forward and reasonable. Final paper was marked TOUGH. If anyone asked a question in the class she dismissed them, and talked down to them. Interesting class to take, just sit and listen though.
Lecture's were boring and exams were unreasonable: watch for personal life stories coming up as exam questions. It's as if she runs out of real exam questions, so there are stories about her daughter and random quotes thrown in as questions. Easy to do well, didn't feel like I learned much though.
Honestly, this was a very difficult course. I've never had so much difficulty in a class. Papers are my strong point in psychology classes, and I have never had so many things "wrong" with my assignments. A nice woman who does care about her students, but it was a very tough class.
Very blunt prof. You need to check your ego at the door and not take any of her seemingly discouraging criticism personally. This class is stressful, challenging and the blogs SUCK but really help you stay on track. She tells you exactly what she wants, so read her feedback carefully and don't be afraid to ask questions. Shes very approachable.
The people rating her low because the class is too difficult just lack self-efficacy. If you enjoy psych this class is a great because you get to conduct a lit review on whatever topic you're interested in. The professors role in this course is simply to help guide the student through the research process and Kavita was super helpful with this.
Kavita is one of the only profs that makes you do blogs and other draft assignments for you project. This is very helpful since you get all the feedback you need and have a second chance to improve before submitting you research project. She may seem intimidating, but she just wants everyone to push themselves to succeed.
Kavita is an awesome professor. Before starting this class, I was extremely nervous and didn't know what to expect. Kavita laid out exactly what she's looking for in every assignment and gave well thought out feedback. As far as I know, she is the only prof that allows you to submit drafts for the intro and body of the paper which is super helpful.
The grading criteria is extremely unclear and her feedback isnt constructive at all. She basically told me I was doing it wrong and not to mess it up next time without telling me what I did wrong.
One of the best professors I've had at Carleton! She is organized, teaches important writing skills with clear grading criteria, and genuinely cares about her students. Highly recommend taking her class!
This class is tough! I would not recommend this prof, she's a tough grader and doesn't go into detail of what you got wrong or how to improve- basically figure it on your own.
This class is really hard, but it is supposed to be. kavita cares about her students and wants you to do well - but she wants you to WORK to do well, which i think is fair for this course. The only thing I really disliked is she can be extremely condescending when you ask questions and she says her expectations are super clear but they are not.
Says her instructions are clear but by far they are. Shes really condescending as well when asked questions. I would not recommend this prof
Tough grader, with unclear criteria . Asks you to follow the example paper she give but that paper itself has numerous errors that she would dock you marks for. Is very inconsistent in her grading. Her way is the only way to write a paper, even if that paper is a boring repetitive mess. Not very helpful with the questions, bless the TA's though
Kavita is a very hard grader and inconsistent. Very unclear guidelines. You need to write the paper her way or no way.
Gives unclear guidelines and poor feedback. You have to do everything exactly her way or you will not do well. She is a very tough grader, thank god for TAs or I would never figure out what I am doing wrong. If you ask for help she will tell you to rewatch the lectures and be condescending, it is very difficult to get a meeting with her.
Kavita is an awesome prof, I think that all of her poor ratings are just people who dropped the course because it is hard. This is a capstone course, it is supposed to be difficult. Kavita gives amazing feedback, with lots of improvement opportunity, if you just make the revisions and do what she says to do, you will get a good grade. She's great!
Found her to be very condescending and therefore made it hard to approach her for any help. Unclear expectations.
I see that previous evaluators had problems with the difficulty level of the course. But this is the honours project course and the standards are definitely higher, as they should be. This course will challenge you but Kavita provides you with all the information that you need to succeed. Once I paid attention to details, I started to excel.
Horrible. Do not recommend. Unclear grading criteria, feedback makes zero sense, and has horrendously unaccommodating policies. I know this class is not meant to be easy but I know that my work is better than she gave me credit for, as I had impartial people look it over. It's her way or no way. Completely ridiculous and unapproachable.
disgrace
Not willing to help students at all. Don't take this class if you're a PMC student or have a disability, there is no compassion or understanding shown here.
It is interesting how students are complaining about how the Professor does not accommodate easily.I appreciate that she does not give any students an unfair advantage. This course IS hard and you must follow her requirements, but welcome to writing an Honours level research paper! If you want to learn how to write a strong paper, take her class!!!
Best prof ever! Always available for questions. do not take if you cannot work hard
Did not feel comfortable approaching this professor for the help that I needed, unfortunately. Very tough.
This course is tough, but Dr. Prakash gives you everything you need to succeed. Students are shown step-by-step how to create their paper for this class. LOTS of examples and feedback are provided. She is quick to reply to questions and very quick to return graded work. I have learned so much from her. Work hard and you will do great.
just don't do it tbh
she is not willing to help students. literally sent an email out saying "don't ask me for help" enjoys giving out poor grades.
Great lectures, terrible assigments. You are pretty much required to remember everything said in lecture in order to complete the assigments/exams. Some of them are IMPOSSIBLE to be done without attending lecture. I attended all lectures and still did bad at some assigments because I could not remember that specific phrase from the lecture.
a psychologist that is unaccommodating to students with disabilities and mental health issues. how ironic. avoid at all costs
Dr. Prakash is an expert in the field of sport psychology and provides helpful anecdotes and interesting videos to illustrate the content. As a strong writer and as someone who attended all classes, I did well in the class. However, those who do not have strong writing skills and do not pay very close attention to the lectures will struggle.
She's a tough grader but her feedback is super clear so if you correct your errors, a high grade is easy. Gives weekly feedback before the final product is due which relieves a lot of stress for students. Replies to emails almost instantly. This class is hard no matter who you take it with, but she's the only prof who provides weekly feedback.
DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE
On the very first day of class, this professor CLEARLY explains the course, all the expectations, how to succeed and that you will struggle at first. There is regular feedback to help you improve, samples to follow and recorded lectures. Students complain only when they do not follow her instructions. Follow the instructions and feedback!
Do not take her course, she does not give good feedback and is super harsh. Her directions are clear ish, but VERY specific, and it seems impossible to please her. I changed the variables and main topic for my honours project 5 times, she did not like any studies and her feedback was to just "follow her process" and "rewatch the lectures".
This course is tough but you learn alot!Dr. Prakash warns you that it is a tough start to the course but she give weekly assignments (1% each) to help you get on track and adjust your process.Focus on what the feedback is and how you can adjust your research process. Then,by the time you get to assignments worth more you excel!Highly recommend her!
I'm happy I took Kavita's section for the honours project. While the assignments seemed never-ending in the 1st semester, she prepared us in a way other students didn't. Feedback can seem harsh, but it's constructive. Overall, I love her course structure. The 2nd semester was a breeze.
Impossible to please her. Feedback consists of “just revisit the lectures”. Is extremely discouraging. TAs struggle with her standards. Refuses to approve anything unless she's grading you for it, which could result in a 0. This class is far from a learning process and is constructed to stress you out, not teach you. Please avoid her at all costs.
