Lectures can be extremely boring. 12 in-class assignments randomly. 4 exams that you can cross off some questions you don't want to answer; multiple choice, fill in the blanks (no bank), and short answers. A bit unorganized, we're behind and she's cramming in information before exams.
Her teaching style is very boring. Lectures are all posted online, but you have too show up because she'll give 12 random in class assignments throughout the assignment. Lectures are very monotonous. She will go over like 5 slides and then make you teach yourself the information. Was very disappointed in this class turned out.
Personally i liked professor Sargent. In order to pass, all you have to do is show up for lectures and do the in class assignments. Majority of the "tricky" exam questions will stem from whats said in lecture. This class is only as hard as you make it. Im usually a C student and came out with a 97, so you can too.
I took professor Sargent fro Psyc1101 and got an A in the class total of 5 tests including the final all of her tests are straight up from the powerpoint and the final is basically questions from previous tests. she gives 12 random credits throughout the semester and each is worth 20 points. tbh the tests were average studying is definitely require
She doesnt care about the class and I didnt feel like she cares about the students. She typically graded activities with As if you turned them in but tests are difficult and unpredictable. Fortunately theres some extra credit to make up for it. She tends to cram information in at the last minute making tests bigger and harder to remember info.
I took this class while I was still a psych major and she made this class super easy if you actually go! Most days will have assignments so actually showing up will help your grade. Gives you tons of chances to get extra credit and the test are taken from the power points (which she posts online), easy if you study!! Definitely take her!!
I was skeptical when choosing this class but I am so glad I did!!! Tests were easy and straight from the PowerPoint and the assignments were basically for a completion grade. Lots of extra credit opportunities as well. Ive never taken such an easy psych class and probably never will again. Take her !!!
10/10 would take again! Shes super funny and lectures are really interesting. Gives a bunch of extra credit and wants you to do well. I actually learned something and would definitly take her again. If shes a option TAKE HER!!!!
Her tests are hard if you do not study ahead of time. Says tests are cumulative but might only ask 1-2 questions from previous test. She gives a lot of extra credit that can really help your grade. Attendance is not mandatory but she gives extra points out if you go to class. Material is a lot to remember and she is a boring lecturer.
Professor Sargent gives a ton of extra credit, just attend class because she does it randomly. Tests are OK, definitely need to study the notes from class because she doesnt always go through the whole PowerPoint. She comes off as dry but this class was pretty easy
Awesome professor. Highly recommend. Lectures are very interesting and tests are everything from her powerpoints. She also offers extra credit!
Dr Sargent was great despite it being a huge lecture class. She gives a ton of extra credit opportunities and her grading is point based not cumulative which makes it a lot easier to get an A. There are four tests, one big podcast project, and about 12 activities that she gives randomly in class. Her lectures were always super interesting!!
Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are 12 activities throughout the semester that are given randomly. All you need to do to get a good grade on the tests is study the PPT's directly. She gives extra credit all the time! She has a very dry sense of humor and makes lectures interesting with her funny commentary. Took her for every class she taught
Professor Sargent offers tons of extra credit, do it because it helps in the long run. Her tests come straight for her powerpoints, which she posts online. Study those and you should do fine. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but the daily activities are random so I'd show up to class. She is really funny and knows her stuff. Psyc is now my minor!
This professor is very straight forward and will treat you more as an adult than a student, by saying this i mean she will hold you accountable for everything. Attend class regularly, take notes on the material, turn your work in on time, and be prepared. Shes a great professor and knows what shes talking about.
Let's just say I went to her class on day 1 and dropped it within 15 minutes of listening to her. This is the only class I've ever dropped in my 4 years of being in college! HELPFUL NOTE: If you haven't had physiological psychology before taking her perception class, I highly recommend doing that or you will SUCK at her class!
Terrible... and overwhelming to say the least
Doesn't follow the syllabus, ignores emails. Doesn't inform what will be on the test. Lacks communication.
I'm taking Child Psychopathology with her right now, and will be taking her for another course next semester! She really makes you work for your grade, but I have learned more in this class than any other since coming to KSU. You will not regret taking her if you plan to pursue a Master's. She treats you like a grown-up and does not mess around.
Worst Psyc class at KSU! Sargent gives little to no communication, assignments go ungraded for MONTHS so you have no idea where you stand, tests and quizzes are filled with wording errors and the answers often make absolutely no sense. She also ignores emails. I don't know why she is a professor when she obviously couldn't care less about us.
I took a hybrid class of hers . The classes were all lecture but interesting and during all the corona stuff she made online easy and gives lots of extra credit opportunities.
She is great! Come to class because she gives assignments randomly counting toward your grade. Study the lecture slides and you'll be fine on the tests. Online quizzes are done through the textbook (pearson). She also gives out TONS of extra credit, she wants you to make an A. Her lectures are really interesting, she's very passionate.
Honestly: worst prof I've ever had, and best at making me feel like she didn't want me to succeed. If you absolutely have to take her 1. get ready for the entire class to fail the first test and be told it was your fault for not preparing 2. She isn't just dry/monotonous she is flat out rude, you're better off getting help from a classmate. Big F
I didnt like her as a professor. She did not interact with the class much and basically just posted assignments and left us to it. There was a big group project that went well for my group (thank goodness) but if you get a crappy group it would be really hard. I wouldnt take her again but she wasnt horrible.
I loved Professor Sargent. This subject matter is tough, but she knows that, is incredibly helpful, and gives extra credit. There's a big podcast group project, but it's way less intimidating than it sounds and she seems to reward genuine effort. The only thing I didn't like was the program we used for the homework. Cengage sucks, Sargent doesn't.
All of the weekly assignments are through Cengage including the eBook. There are 4 exams and are on lockdown Browser with camera except for the final. She will assign each student in a podcast group project, only your group and her will listen. PowerPoint lectures are very long (save time by printing and not writing). Lots of extra credit!!
Does not interact with all students She knows the material but lacks the ability to be objective It was a waste of my time
This professor is terrible. I took her for my senior capstone class and actually regretted it. She is non responsive to emails, grades harshly with no explanation or reasoning for the grades that you receive, and she never gives a clear answer for any questions that you may ask. Do yourself a favor and take someone else.
Very test heavy (6 in total), but absolutely no study guides or guidance for exams whatsoever, however, there is extra credit. Exams all use lockdown (for irl class) and go very depth on concepts for an intro class (I am not a psych major so I hated this personally). Perfect for those who are very into psychology, but I am not :(
The exams in this class DO NOT correlate with the lecture. Be prepared to read the textbook for hours and still be confused. Test average were always in the low 60s. Extremely condescending when anyone asks questions
Just dont.
Prof Sargent's tests were decently hard and lockdown browser with webcam. The only way to know what is going on is to read the textbook in depth and take detailed notes. Weekly homeworks are on MindTap which helps to pad your grade.
Good professor with interesting lectures. Tests aren't completely based on the lectures so be prepared to go through the textbook over each chapter. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities. 5 tests, participation activities, easy homework, and PREX assignments make up the grading. Plus a final that replaces the lowest test grade.
Intro to Psych has a lot of material, as each unit is a sneak peak for many of the Psych major classes. Professor Sargent is very knowledgeable about the material and psych as a whole and does a great job of explaining all of the content. She gives extra credit for every tests, which are online. Take her if you're a psych major, she's great!
Overall a great professor with a course built for students. She builds the course with lots of drops and extra credit. You WILL need to study outside the homework and tests are with Lockdown. She has dry humor and does not pull punches on awkward topics. There are "surprise" graded discussions to get you to come to class.(most were mentioned)
DO NOT take this professor, lectures were lazy and didn't even correspond to tests. Accidentally put in Fs and responded surprised when she made mistakes. Very dry lectures, just talks on a microphone for a majority of it then expects students to stay till the end to receive their participation. Just don't take this professor
Initially didn't even sign up for her course, KSU had just thrown me in to her class. However, was fortunate to come out of this difficult 1101 class with an A- out of pure luck from taking advantage of her 3 Extra Credit Study Guide Opportunities. You'll HAVE to read the textbook & take 5 tests + a Final Exam (6 tests, final replaces lowest grade)
Psych 1101 is a hard class. It covers a lot of material without really going in depth so it can be hard to understand a lot of the key concepts. PowerPoints are posted online but professor Sargent points out important concepts during lectures. Tests are multiple choice and cover a lot and she gives extra credit if you make a study guide.
She lacks proper organization. Her exams have a high failure rate for good reason -- questions don't align with the scheduled readings/content and no clear guideline. Gives zero feedback, thus, you don't know if you are understanding the material or what you missed on exams. I usually earn A's, yet received a C in her class. Run!
She's very rude and doesn't seem to care about if you do well or not. She doesn't interact with the class whatsoever and probably doesn't even care if you pass or not. She grades very harshly & won't give real explanations as to why she graded you so low. I unfortunately got stuck with her b/c she was the only professor left for a psych capstone :(
If you can choose another teacher for your Capstone course, DO IT! Kayla Sargent has a huge issue with responding on time and appropriately. For such a huge grade in the class you would think she would help more with your final project paper, but she doesn't. She also mixes up dates constantly so you have to check over the syllabus to figure it out
If you take psychology of gender this is the professor to choose. While the workload is hard and the reading is time-consuming, I learned so much from the course, and the class was very enjoyable. The discussions in class and debates are exciting, and there is so much space for discourse. She is incredibly knowledgeable on course material as well.
I took Psych of Gender with her and it was a great class that helped me learn a lot. She's a good professor who gives lots of good feedback about homework and reflections. There's a lot of reading for her class, so definitely be prepared for that. The topics of the course can be difficult, but there are plenty of opportunities to discuss.
There are definitely a lot of assigned readings for this course, but they're all super interesting and the assignments that go with the readings are easily understandable and help work toward the exam material. Prof can sometimes be a tough grader, but she explains what she's looking for and is open to discussing a grade with students.
Professor Sargent is very clear and to the point. She provides material that is useful and incorporated into the class itself. She breaks down major assignments and makes sure you are clear on objectives and the focus on it before the final products which i thought was very helpful and not overwhelming.
I took Professor Sargent for my Senior Capstone class and I have really enjoyed her class so far. She is easily accessible and ready to answer all questions you may need. She is willing to work with you and help you when you need it.
For Senior Capstone you should choose Dr. Sargent. You should be at a level of performance that you shouldn't need anyone to hold your hand. She encourages you to function independently and challenges you to make the effort to seek the information you need from the resources available to you. She is intelligent, resourceful, and comprehensive.
She is a wonderful professor, however she has a lot of assignments due within the same week. It is hard to keep up with all due dates as they are due on a Tuesday and Friday instead of all on Friday or on Wednesday and Fridays. A lot of content is just crash course videos instead of lecture powerpoints.
Very helpful and understanding. will go out of her way to make sure her students succeed
She's very clear about how assignments should be done. A few assignments are due on different days each week. Printing the assignment schedule helps to keep track. Be sure to ask good questions and think of any possible questions before your meetings. Be sure to do the assignments correctly because she doesn't want to see incomplete assignments.
Really nice and helpful. Wants students to succeed
Professor Sargent is great. This is my second time taking her & it's always been a breeze. She is very open & available to her students. I would recommend her to anyone.
As long as you follow the guidelines with her assignments you will be okay. She responds very quickly to any questions you may have.
They are a good professor however very load heavy. Have to do a lot of assignments and moves quickly.
Great teacher! The course is pretty straightforward and simple if you follow the guidelines and stay on top of the assignments. She explains everything clearly and is responsive to questions. As long as you pay attention to the syllabus and do the work, you'll do well. Overall, a good experience so far.
She is very nice and straightforward. A good amount of work is due each week, but if you stay on top of it you should be fine. There are weekly discussions, quizzes, and a paper (I think that is most of the grades). She is a great choice for your capstone!
If you complete all the work correctly, you should be fine. She responds quickly and reminds you many times she is there to reach out to. She wants you to do well in the class.
Professor Sargent is great overall. There's a quiz every week but it is open note, and she gives you plenty of time to work on your final paper. I emailed her and she didn't respond, but that's literally the only questionable thing that has happened while taking her class.
Overall, Dr. Sargent is a good professor. She's usually a pretty easy grader; she won't nitpick your work. The only thing to beware of is that if you take her for an online class, she has random due dates throughout the week. It helps you space out your work but is only helpful if you're on track with the due dates.
Professor Sargent gives you a lot of opportunities to get your average up in the class. She's very nice and responsive if you send her any emails or have questions about certain grades assignments.
Good and caring prof
Fun class - wish I could have taken her in person but I was taking classes out of state.
She is very passionate about the subject and actually cares about students.
Pretty easy overall, be prepared to work with classmates and participate in class. Easy readings, but some every week, and the overall course work is easy to grasp. 10/10 would take again.
class has been majorly improved from previous years. she took reviews seriously, so there's less assignments due each week. difficulty is higher for this class because it takes a lot of actual effort to comprehend these concepts and you have to discuss and debate in class. GO TO SI SESSIONS FOR EXTRA CREDIT
I really enjoyed having Professor Sargent. She clearly cares about her students and is passionate about the course content. There are readings and a reflection due every week as well as three debates and exams throughout the semester. This class challenged me personally but Sargent is a fair grader.
Professor Sargent creates a safe space for openness and understanding on gender-related topics. Be prepared to read, take notes, and participate in class discussions!
I enjoyed the format of the class. Participation and conversations valued in class helps not only to reinforce the material, but to also gain new perspectives.
I'm currently taking Professor Sargent for Psych of Gender and I love her class. I don't recommend it if you don't like to read and are not going to go to class. There are weekly readings and the lectures are not posted on D2L. If you do the work, take good notes, and show up to class, it is not difficult by any means and I highly recommend it!
There's readings and a reflection due each week. They are pretty easy just pay attention. She's very communicative and will work with you!
Good professor, lots of debates, reading and class discussions. Weekly article readings and note taking.
Professor Sargent is passionate about what she teaches. Some of the content is heavy and difficult to conceptualize, so you will have to put in the work. Her course was a consistent set up for each week: readings, class discussion, and reflections due at the end of each week. If you're interested in exploring the complexity of gender, take her!
This professor grades fairly, there is homework but its doable.
There is a lot of writing, but as long as you take thorough notes and do the work and go to SI sessions at least every other week so should do completely fine.
Dr. Sargent's Gender of Psych class is very interesting. There's a lot of reading involved and few actual assignments. Her rules and practices in class are traditional, so nothing inside the class involves technology. She's very nice and is genuinely passionate about her job.
Professor Sargent makes sure that there is a very clear understanding with all of the material in the class. She also makes sure that everyone speaks out and involve themselves in discussions. I enjoyed class discussions as well as debates. I definitely recommend taking this class!
Professor Sargent is fantastic, she's incredibly friendly and very helpful when it comes to the subjects. There are times when some of the subjects are confusung but she's always willing to work with students.
Insightful and respectful teacher who encourages discussion and class participation. The class can be difficult, but it was one of my favorite psychology classes I have taken at KSU.
Overall she's a great teacher, the only thing is that you have to make time for it and actually pay attention. She is kind of a tough grader but, cares about your progress though out the course.
This is a hard class, but the professor does care about her students and doesn't want to fail them. If you're struggling she will work with you. There are weekly readings and reflections but these are relatively easy and you should pass them if you read the work, The exams are written essays taken in class.
I would take this class again in a heartbeat—don't stress about the reading. It's not boring textbook material.
very strict; diverse perspectives in class is essential, but it feels like her approach favors 1 viewpoint, which makes discussion feel unbalanced. Her philosophy centers around questioning the purpose of our existence, leading to discussions that are more pessimistic rants about humanity's propensity for conflict rather than constructive dialogue.
Get ready to read, but you'll have a lot of fun in this class. Sometimes I wish my classmates would contribute more—the lectures and discussions are really fun when people show up and start talking.
This professor has three mandatory meetings for her online course -- this stressed me out at first, but it was really helpful in getting the paper done correctly. This class is pretty straight forward and easy if you just keep your due dates organized and meet with her to make sure your paper is on the right track! Doing the paper right is key.
Exams in this class are hard, but there are a lot of easier assignments that buffer grades, so it works out in the end. I am new to online classes but this one ws organized well and easy to follow along with.
I've taken Dr. Sargent several times at KSU and it was fun to finish my last class with her. For capstone, you pretty much work independently but she checks in with you at three points in the semester and makes sure youre on the right track for the final paper and powerpoint.
This is a debate class! I wish it was advertised as such, but to my knowledge, it is not. 3 debates (essentially group projects) and 3 essays per semester. The instructor is extremely kind. She is super smart and helpful. She's funny and reliable. Tons of extra credit. SI sessions.
A lot of work, although other than the research paper, relatively easy.
I was not a fan of her technique for teaching this course. We read 3 books over the semester and came to class prepared to have a debate for a grade on top of our lectures everyday. I found her teaching style hard for me to learn from. I had to withdraw but if this sounds like your kind of learning I thought she was nice but sometimes condescending
Weekly reflections on the books assigned for each unit. Exams are handwritten in class but open note. Super nice and wants you to learn.
This class expect to read a lot and have to do debates. I thought it was a good class and enjoyed the professor, my only critique would be that she grades rather hard and the tests are confusing.
This class really opened my eyes in both gained perspective and how to assess difficult topics and think critically. There is a good amount of reading, but the books are really interesting and the questions about them are not super difficult. I loved the debates and feel like I got to know my classmates and their perspectives. loved this class
Very good class. It will challenge your brain a little bit but overall if you show up and participate you'll do great.
Lots to read but a very fun class! Professor Sargent is understanding and wants you to succeed, however you have to be willing to put in the work.
It's a 90's style class where notes and and exams are taken by hand. But look, the exams are essay style and tough but you walk out retaining more info than any multiple choice test you've taken. So in terms of actually learning it's a great class and she's fair and encourages in class participation.
Gives straightforward lectures with notes that are to the point, and tests that are somewhat difficult because she grades critically on writing. Good for class discussions as well, they're engaging.
The class is tough and very reading heavy. However can be interesting, debates are fun.
DEFINITELY heavy on the reading and writing. Weekly reflections, debate and exam over each book. Not necessarily HARD assignments, but you definitely have to put in effort. Not an easy A
Professor Sargent is a really wonderful professor. This class is a little challenging as you have to read and do reflections and the exams are handwritten but the internal reflections you will do is worth every moment. If you can stay on top of your work this will be an easy class and the things you learn are valuable. Take it!
I didn't know what to expect coming into this course, but I was pleasantly surprised. A lot of discussion could potentially make you uncomfortable, but they are very eye-opening and have made me become more confident on the subject. I would highly recommend taking this course, especially if you enjoy reading, writing, and debates.
I liked this class because it allowed for class discussions and always kept me interested. You do have to read and write a good bit but the topics for this class is very intriguing. I have not been graded too harshly and there is a lot of opportunities to bring up your grade.
professor sargent's class is not hard, but also not easy! you will do just fine if you keep up with your notes and readings. attendance is mandatory, but there are some days where it is not and you get extra credit attendance. she is a very caring professor and she makes it clear that she is someone that cares about helping you do well :)
Be prepared to participate during lectures as it is required for a grade! Overall, lots of reading, writing, and debatable topics. Great professor!
The lectures are fun and informative, and the reading is interesting. There is a lot of reading, but the books are engaging enough that it isn't torture. I had a hard time keeping up with the length and thoroughness of the writing assignments, but as long as you plan ahead, you'll be fine.
Prof. Sargent was a fantastic teacher. I was sick for quite a while at the beginning of the semester, but due to the nature of her class I was able to do most of the course from home. VERY generous on extra credit, so you can miss some assignments but because they are all READING BASED assignments, do not lose track. Debates, essay tests, prepare!
TAKE HER! She is so full of knowledge, genuinely the best professor I have ever had. You're mind will be opened in this class. You need be ready to read. there are three books to read and you will be writing reflections for those books. the tests are handwritten essays as well. but do not let that deter you! these readings are amazing!
Dr. Sargent class has half lecture and half discussion based class days. There are 3 books through the entire semester but they are cheap or sometimes free online. You're not allowed to use technology during class and exams are open note/book but no technology can be used so the book must be hard/softcover. Tough but fair grader/coursework.
This class is heavily based in reading. However, the reading is incredibly thought provoking and interesting. The professor facilitates weekly group discussions that are open and respectful, yet hard-hitting. I would absolutely recommend taking this class with Professor Sargent!
Love this professor. She is very real, straight forward, & always to answer any & all questions you may have! The material covered in gender psych is very interesting, makes you think, & overall makes me feel like a more open minded person. The way she does exams about took me out the 1st time, but all course work is self explanatory & easy!
I have had a good time going through this class so far. Professor Sargent is great at talking through issues you are having which has been very helpful. We have Teams meetings three times during the semester, and it is very helpful to hear her explain some of the assignments.
She gives excellent feedback, the course is well planned out. She challenges you, but in the best way. She is also easy to get in touch with, and responds quickly.
She gives excellent feedback, and the course is well designed so we don't fall behind. She challenges us, but in the best way. Great capstone.
All around a great professor who makes sure her students understand the assignments that are needed to pass in order to graduate.
I took her for Fall and Spring semester. She really is great and straightforward. She isn't easy, but she also isn't hard.
Had her for Capstone and Psychology of Gender (a few years ago), a great professor that clearly enjoys her job and the subject. Does a great job of giving clear feedback, as well as making sure there are plenty of opportunities/ways to reach out to her for help if you need it.
Professor Sargent is a great teacher. She offers clear communication and effective guidance if needed. Her assignments are fairly easy as long as you participate and take the time to work on them. I would take her class again!
Professor Sargent cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed so we can all graduate without a hitch. I will say that the weekly assignments feel very much like busy work as they do not directly correlate to the research paper, which is the main focus of the course. Despite this, the assignments are not too difficult or time-consuming.
I'd say she's really good in making sure all seniors make that finishline instaed of holding you back and that I can really respect.
Great professor to work with. Very great with responding back to emails in case of questions.
great professor. Very easy to communicate with. Really cares for students.
Professor Sargent is thorough and fair; her assignments prep you for your paper well, and she gives you many opportunities to talk to her about the process and any questions one might have about what goes into the paper.
They seem like a fine teacher. I don't really like the nature of the online lectures, since they have a lot of information for the quizzes, but they don't have everything. Therefore, they are a valuable resource, but not a complete one, which makes it awkward to use. They seem plenty nice however, and they give a lot of guidance for the paper.
Professor Sargent is super responsive via email and holds weekly office hours. There's a quiz each week, but no LockDown Browser. The main focus is a research paper, so following instructions carefully is key. As long as you stay on track, you'll be fine. She's attentive, friendly, and truly wants students to succeed. Highly recommend!
Very passionate professor.
I really enjoyed her class and she treats us like adults. I had for the capstone internship and she helped me with finding a good topic for my paper. She prepares well but she is tough but i think I needed that for a class like this.
I took Professor Sargent's Capstone Internship course and I found that it was really helpful! I think everyone should take this course, although it can take some time, the experience you gain and everything you learn makes it worth it!
This is my second time taking Professor Sargent and if I wasn't graduating then I would definitely do it again. She genuinely wants the best out of her students and always gives amazing feedback for your assignments. This class definitely felt more like a mentoring group rather than an actual class. I love her!!
The internship was wonderful and it was nice to have a class to take in tandem.
She is an amazing teacher! Full of laughter and wit, she made this class a breeze. She took away that pressure of how "hard" the class was. Shes amazing and I would love to take her again!!
Professor Sargent is my hero, internship through her class was so easy and fun! There was plenty of support from her to find an internship, and she taught us a bunch to prepare us for real. I really enjoyed the class!
2 major grades make up the majority of the credit for the class: the paper and the presentation on the paper. She gives detailed instructions for both, but that's on you for the rest of the assignments. Funny and witty in class.
Great professor. She is more than willing to help, both in and out of class, for as long as possible. She has no issue with repeating instructions if they are complex or unclear. Lover her!
First of all, she's actually really funny. Like really funny. Which helps me understand how smart she truly is, because she's witty. Anyway, as for the course, she's a good teacher, she's here to help you grow and learn, and she's super responsive to questions and will truly help you wherever you need.
Class credit depends on two grades: a paper and a presentation She provides great detail for each, the rest of the assignments are on you. Witty and funny in class.
This class was great experience. Internship was the best capstone choice. It was so great to get hands on experience. You learned more in the field than you would in class. It's really a great way to get perspective.
Loved her classes and even took 2 classes in two different semesters. 10/10 recommend!
Majority of class is two assignments: paper and presentation. She provides good instructions for both Rest of class is on you. Witty and funny
Dr. Sargent is very knowledgeable about all of the content she teaches. She makes lectures interesting and is very funny and relatable. She definitely pushes you and expects hard work. There were times when directions were very unclear and she wasn't understanding when help was needed. She expects you to just figure it out most of the time.
The Professor has projects that will prepare you for adulthood careers.
This is my second class with Dr. Sargent although this is an atypical class -- super funny, kinda feels like group therapy, and you get good job experience. Do it if you're scared!
Lectures are very educational
This is not a tough "class" but you do need time to manage an internship and not procrastinate on your paper. Class meets once or twice a month and it's pretty fun. I met with her a few times outside of class and she was uper helpful.
I'd definitely do this again - Internship got me a job after graduation, and the class was fun and easy.
Crazy amount of work, if you're gonna be taking more than this class it probably isn't worth the headache.weekly discussion/replies, homework(a lot), semester long group project, 4 exams. Also just to be able to access the mandatory homework you have to pay over $100.
Unclear instruction, especially with the exams. She is nice but not flexible with you at all. Her exams are extremely hard for no reason. There is a lot of work in the class, found myself spending so many hours on coursework. Don't email her she won't answer
Professor Sargent was very accessible and accommodating throughout the semester. There was a mix up with due dates due to different versions of the course syllabus, but she was so understanding when she realized. She was very helpful and gave great feedback on assignments. I recommend taking her!
Take her! She is very clear when it comes to assignments and what she expects. Gives good feedback and wants you to succeed
don't do it
Professor Sargent inspired and motivated me more than any other professor I've had. She created an environment where learning felt meaningful and exciting. If you're willing to put in the effort, this class will not only teach you about perception it will change you. I truly felt compelled to share how impactful Professor Sargent has been.
She is a good professor. Make sure you make enough time for the final paper. It requires lots of time management, especially nearing the end of the semester.
I've taken Dr. Sargent before for other classes but this was an extra cool class. I think I'll use this for the rest of my life and her letters of rec helped me get into my dream graduate program.
This class is extremely demanding and not very flexible. The professor does not allow any technology during class which makes it difficult to take notes or keep up You're required to use physical textbooks only, and the course is very reading-heavy. And she doesn't respond to her emails. Ever.
She is very caring I can't lie and if you are bad a time management and not committed look the other way. She's very down to earth and communicates. It is a little difficult due to I over think this class. But if your strong do it.
Sargent requires a lot of reading, but it's very beneficial to the class. She is chill and allows a lot of extra credit opportunities. You also get to pick the book you read from a selection.
This professor is very understanding and helpful !! No doubt you should pass this class with an A !! This class is all about attending class and staying on top of your readings.
She's a great professor, just be ready to work and read. This class is really reading heavy, and also has participation grades so make sure to attend class. She's relatively fair on extra credit work. Also involves a good deal of speaking in front of the class and as an anxious person, it made me a bit nervous but don't worry, it gets better!
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT AND NOTES
Very fun class, especially when it comes to the debates. You do have to read a lot of chapters BUT you get to choose which book you want to read besides the required book. There are extra credit opportunities every week as well as the end of the semester. As long as you stay on top of doing your assignments you will do well.
Professor Sargent is kind and straightforward. Be prepared to purchase 2 books for her class, (use eBay, quick and cheap. She required in person essay question like exams and online book analysis with heavy monitoring and lockdown browser. Read books and take notes!!!! It's so hard to pass without. The class is not as bad as it seems!!!
The class is "hard" because you have to use critical thinking. If anything, it's appropriate for a college class. Many of the reviews dish on Dr. Sargent because it requires in engagement. You will learn things in this class that is meaningful and can vr applied to real life. This class will give you a fresh, new, and solid perspective.
Professor Sargent really makes sure that students are engaged and knowledgeable about the concepts, but she makes sure that they're having fun doing it. The books (not textbooks) are very interesting, the class discussions are entertaining (even coming from someone who doesn't like speaking up usually), and there's a ton of extra credit, too!
She's very easy to get to know and interact with. Attendance matters because she does give out extra credit opportunities. Her exams are little tough but they are doable with class participation, reading, and good notes on your book that you can choose.
There is required reading for this class but one of the books is your choice. Other than the reading there wasn't much homework and the class is heavily discussion/activity based. Attendance is worth points and being present is important to do well in the class. Lots of extra credit is offered.
It was a great class with a lot of reading. But you got to choose the book from six options. I enjoyed the reading but it can be intimidating. The exams are all written but open note. After the first one you really get the hang of it. If you do all the reading and notes and participate in class you'll pass. Also helps that she is fun to talk to.
Prof Sargent clearly wants her students to succeed and cares a lot about the material. Be ready to read, she assigns two books that you have to read at the same time, BUT the tests are open note and open book and the reading is not very difficult. She also gives extra credit for notes on the reading, which is literally just free points.
She's the sweetest, most respectful person ever. Very accessible outside of class and is very easy to talk to. Has clear deadlines and rubrics, but also makes it easy to succeed. Plenty of extra credit opportunities and gives good feedback on assignments and any questions you might have, whether about this class or any other. STRONGLY RECOMMEND.
Very helpful and willing to work with you. She's a great professor.
Professor Sargent is a pretty decent teacher, but the course is very heavy on reading. If you enjoy reading multiple books in a semester you'll be good lol - admittedly there were a LOT of people to drop this class…mainly because she doesn't grade very fast and can be a tough grader so people didn't know whether they were passing or failing…
Professor Sargent was great and gave AMPLE opportunity for extra credit. Very understanding and passionate about what she teaches. Make sure you read and you will be fine!
Good extra credit options, a little confused with how she grades certain things, for example its hard to know how to succeed when it comes to debates. Definitely pushes you, which isn't a bad thing.
This is coming from my own bias perspective, but I personally didn't like this professor. Her assignments can be unclear at times and it can be confusing to know what she actually wants. She has a slight pretentious attitude at times which is quite unpleasant. Her class isn't the most difficult, I just really didn't like her teaching style.
Professor Sargent is a caring professor. Make sure to show up to class so that you can get a 100 for participation. There's a lot of extra credit so do not feel discouraged if you don't do well on an assignment. She's very flexible and will work with you if needed. She's also funny and her classes are entertaining. pay attention to lectures!!
Fantastic professor! She cares about each one of her students and tries her best to help everyone succeed. You definitely need to do the reading and actively engage in the class, but she makes the material very interesting and engaging. She is easy to reach out to, and offers extremely generous bonus opportunities.
Professor Sargent is a person who cares deeply about her work; therefore, the class is a little tedious. She is nice and gives out lots of extra credit, however, this is a class more on the difficult side. Be ready to work and think OUTSIDE the box. You will read two books all semester so make sure you are reading and keeping up!
This class is not hard if you put in the work and do the readings. There are 2 required books to read (must be a paper copy) and all notes must be handwritten in order to use on in class essays (can be submitted for extra credit). Attendance is mandatory but she has class discussions and makes it enjoyable. Very good professor would take again!
Dr. Sargent is a very respectable professor. The guidelines for her class are clear and revolve around a mix between lectures and book discussions. If you read and come to class you will do well, she offers a lot of extra credit opportunities to catch up as well.
You have to ready and be ready to learn but it is a rewarding class. You leave feeling like you've learned something, Professor Sargent is great. Don't take the class if you're not trying to learn about this topic.
This class is not lecture heavy at all. Instead it's more discussion heavy based on the assigned reading for the course. There is one class wide reading and another feminist readying of your choice from a pre-established list. Attendance is mandatory and not going will affect your grade so GO TO CLASS.
Taking her class was interesting, she's just not your typical psychology teacher in my opinion. All of our tests were based off the book, no multiple choice just all written responses so you NEED to know what the book(s) says. She's a fun teacher though.
Great professor! Forces you to think a lot, with some more abstract/harder to grasp concepts. Offers LOTS of extra credit, and is very helpful to improve critical thinking! Lots of reading, but it's mostly pretty fun and interesting stuff. Definitely would recommend this professor and class for any psych student taking their first upper level class
I liked this class and the professor but you really gotta keep up, understand the reading material, and follow instructions thoroughly. Relatively demanding, but an overall engaging class.
She is a very kind and knowledgeable professor. If you enjoy reading or are willing to set aside a lot of time to read then this class is worth it. No electronics allowed. Written exams. LOTS of extra credit opportunities. Tough grader. The grade you get reflects the work you put in. Shes encouraging and gives you opportunities to earn back points
She's a really awesome and captivating lecturer and overall simply wants you to learn. My biggest piece of advice is if you just are taking this class for credit, take someone else. If psychology truly captivates you, and you love to learn, take it!!! It's hard, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There's high expectations, but it's valuable material!
This class is perfect for a challenge. (Don't let this scare you!) It's not a typical class based on "homework, quiz, and a test" but it forces you to learn the material. What's learned isn't wasted because everything learned in this class makes you view the world differently and apply it to your daily life. DON'T DROP AND CHALLENGE YOURSELF!
I was excited for her class only to be disappointed at the complete lack of thought behind her tests. You must be ready to read a textbook front to back and memorize little details that have nothing to do with the concept. I thought I was getting ready to apply concepts to real world scenarios but was asked to recall minuscule details from the book
Just don't take Gender Psych. Class honestly shouldn't exist. "Exams" have no real rubric.
Don't do it. You shouldn't have to do this much work for an elective, which is an optional course, by the way. MAYBE do this class with another professor, but I would strongly recommend NOT joining Sargent's course. Save yourself while you still can.
Amazing professor! This is the second class i've taken with her and she's a tough grader, but a lot of fun to work with.
Took this class because I liked the professor from a previous class. There is a good amount of work, but it all makes sense with the course content and it's not busy work. Good upper level psyc class with this professor!
Her quizzes are annoying and based off the book, so expect alot super specific questions. Study for exams
Class is hard and the lectures don't really help. She's very sweet but you're definitely on your own for the most part.
Dr. Sargent knows her information very well, but since I was in a 33% hybrid class, the homework was heavy. I just feel like she made things harder than they really had to be. I had peers in my other classes speak of their Perception class with other professors and they enjoyed it. TESTS ARE ALL WRITTEN RESPONSE
I loved this class; it was definitely a class I had to work in, but the professor was very helpfull and kind. I learned so much and would definitely recommend it.
Tests are brutal. Hard of study for and to take however they aren't weighted too heavily. The subject matter was interesting and the professor is very knowledgeable and invested in your learning.
Professor Sargent was a great professor who really pushes you to understand the material and be your best. She was always willing to answer my questions and help me when my personal issues started to affect my grades. She never gave up on me and I would love the opportunity to take another class with her.
The reason her ratings are so high is because she gets people to write ratings *in class* for extra credit... it's not like she tells people to rate her high, but come on, who's gonna rate her super low while she's in the room... Just wanted to let people know these ratings could be misleading
