She needs to go back to school
Extremely nice, class participation, seems to grade fairly. Good looking also
She's alright, but doesn't really have much to offer in class. I learned more with classmates and outside sources.
Ms. Slezak is ok. Not a teacher that's significant or someone I'll remember. I agree on using other resources to learn more in class. She's nice in class but doesn't really seem interested or invested in her students.
Good teacher, fair, friendly, and does fun assignments. Class is let out 2 hours early for a one night/week class. 3 projects but doesn't explain them. Easy though.
Keeps the class interested with a lot of activities. For a 100 level class it is pretty easy but she uses a lot of real life examples so it helps to understand the material. Fun class.
Makes class more interesting then most. Tries to keep everyone involved, and in my experience is willing to compromise.
Kayla is a good teacher. You have to be there for class because there are quizez every so often and participation is recommended. You work in groups a lot. She is very cool and very down to earth. The class is pretty good overall, plus you get something nice to look at!
Informal teaching style(classroom discussions). Quizzes easy if you read the chapters/powerpts/attend class. Exam ?s are harder/some tricky ?s even if you prepare & study- some ?'s are picked from obscure sentences in book/obscure info in cases. Super fast oral review b4 exam. Otherwise fair, effective, & fun prof :)
Kayla is a great teacher, she makes what could be a boring business class interesting and worth going to class for. She makes an effort to help you succeed and cares about each and everyones well-being. She's also quite sexy.
I find you very helpful.
Very nice and helpful.
This class is very easy.
She is awesome!!
Fun class, she makes is interesting and not just a boring lecture. Little assignments so attendance is a must, but its not hard to go to her class. Go have fun and learn something!
Classes are interesting and not boring. Class gets involved and doesn't just listen to teacher speak. If you attend class you will not have many problems if any.
Great Teacher. I recommend taking her. Not to hard just go to class and do your work
Kayla is an awesome teacher, she makes the class fun and only tells you the information that you need to know!
A good professor that requires students to be in class and participating. Pay attention and the class wont be too bad. She is not too bad on the eyes either.
Cool chick, kind of general in descriptions of assignments, doesnt want to be in class any longer than the students. Take her, you'll like her, but probably wont learn much
shes a dope teacher
This class is so easy. You wont learn much of anything but if you just want an easy way out of a prerequisite then its a good choice. You have to go to class but its not bad it usually ends early and is interesting.
She's a great teacher and teaches you stuff that you can really use. Assignments are easy and most of them are done in class. I would recommend her to anyone.
She is a very helpful teacher, the class is informative and is also very easy. Class rarely lasts the whole time which is nice.
i like not having a textbook. the powerpoints are helpful and i liked the environment where we can joke but still get work done. i also like that your fun but you don't let anyone run over you. one of my favorite profs.
Great class. Not all of the material is interesting so some days will be boring. Does activities to make things more interesting. Could cover material a little more; READ THE BOOK FOR EXAMS. Material is taken from power points, notes AND the book! She's willing to help if you ask!!
Class is easy, teacher is cute, we play games. What more could you ask for? If you go to class you will get a good grade and have a bit of fun. Take BUS100 with her
Good Good!
Keeps class exciting, uses good examples and you actually remember things when you leave class. Highly recommended
Awesome teacher! very personable, cares more about just your grades, cares how you're doing outside of class and how life is in general! Highly recommended! She's a sweetheart.
She is soo sweet, and truly cares about how things are going in and out of class. I loved her and I miss her class so much!!
It is one of those classes that i look forward to going to each week. Kayla keeps the class upbeat while teaching the required material. The classes is not hard but i still do learn from it. Kayla makes learning easy.
Kayla is a great professor! Participate in class, and ask questions. Take an interest in your education and you will get a lot out of this class. I love her real life stories and interest in every student. One of the best profs I've had at CMU.
Great class, great teacher. I absolutely loved going to class every week! Pretty easy just make sure you do the assignments, which are super easy. She is super nice and I love the stories she tells! Highly recommended!
Bad teacher! Great person, nice, and fun to be around, but she is just a plain out horrible teacher. I am in a three hour night class and we stay maybe 45 minutes. She does a bad job of teaching. I have no idea what the class is even about still. Take her if you enjoy easy class.
Pretty good teacher, I am also in the BIS 101 3 hour night class and yeah it does end pretty short but she really does cover all she really needs to in that time and doesnt waste yours. Fair Grader, great person, good professor. Highly recommended
Kayla is an amazing teacher, and person for that matter. She is extremely nice and carefree but knows how to get down to business. The course work was not difficult but you have to attend class to get the grade. You learn a lot of skills from this class and she is very helpful. Ask questions and think outside of the box and you'll have a great time
Kayla is the nicest teacher i've had at cmu and helpful, however sometimes the lectures get quite tedious and repetitive and the project is a little time consuming
Kayla is a very good professor and a very helpful person. She helped me a lot throughout the semester. The class its self was alright pretty easy info to learn and the lectures were okay. I would definitely reccommend any person to take her as there teacher
Cares for her students! if you go to class and participate youll pass easy
Her class is easy because we don't really do anything. I like classes where I actually learn something. She's nice, sure, but any teacher can be nice. We registered for these classes, paid for them and we should be learning instead of having fun time. The class is repetitive and lectures are tiring.
I don't think she should be teaching. Class is too easy because we don't learn anything. I'm disappointed that I'm not taking anything from her class and using it in the future. What a waste of time and money. People need to stop commending her - we need a 'real' teacher.
To the person who posted below: I sure hope she isn't posting things just to make herself look like a good teacher. If anyone actually cares for her class, they'd know exactly how not good of a teacher she really is. I'd rather have a mean teacher who I learn from than a teacher who is like her (and I admit she's a Butterface) and nothing learned.
you want her as a teacher again after you have her
To the students that say they dont "learn" anything in this class...you're in college! Take initiative and learn. Do you have a text book??...Read it! Study notes!! I've learned throughout my 4 years that it's not what you learn in class, it's what you learn outside of class.
Great teacher, fun assignments, and wants you to do good in college.
Good teacher, lots of fun. Relates to students and understands how we think. Makes class applicable to real life.
Kayla is awesome. She doesn't waste our classtime going over stuff that is CLEARLY spelled out in the book. We're not in high school, but it sounds like alot of the people posting comments are still stuck there. She relates the material to our lives, and makes the projects fun, and leaves the details up to us. Id take her class again in a heartbeat
Put in effort & this class is pretty easy - material isn't difficult. Points are from 3 exams (she gives you review sheets), 2 unannounced quizzes per exam, group presentation, research paper, participation, attendance (can miss 2). She requires you to do an interview for the paper, kind of annoying. Start asking early - lots ppl don't respond
Tries to be friends with the students and forgets to teach. She is great if you are looking for an easy A and don't really want to learn much. However, if you are looking for some kind of knowledge DO NOT take her. Her teaching style is laughable. It consists of reading exactly what is wrote on powerpoint then saying, "get it?"
There is no way this many people think she is a good teacher. My gut feeling is she asked her classes to rate her good. Take it from me....BAD TEACHER!
Total beyotch. Stuck up attitude. Picks favorites. Makes you drive all the way to class bc attendance is mandatory only to let you go 5 min later. Waste of time easy B but if she doesnt like you prepared to get humiliated.
Awesome class and teacher. She let me switch in her night class mid way through the semester. very understanding and willing to help. Doen't waste time on material that's useless. However focuses and stress on whats on the test or quiz. take notes, go to class and participate you'll be fine! Fun teacher, she's real with you!
the class is easy and Kayla is a very nice person, however, unless you are the type to talk alot in the class you will not do that well. She is very demanding on attendance and participation. So if you plan on skipping or not participating do not take this class or any of hers.
First of all, if you thought this teacher was hard, you're an idiot. 2nd when talking to others who took this class they didnt really learn much else, they did the same stuff straight from the book, thank god she actually realized she could teach the same lecture in 20 mins that others would spend 3 hrs on and didnt waste our time. Highly Recommend
Everyone has fun in her class for the most part. Attendance is important because she usually has a 10 point assignment in class. Group projects are easy. I didn't agree with her grading on some things though, but overall it's easy as long as you go to class.
Her lectures are pretty bad. All she does is read directly from the powerpoint and asks us if we get it. Her lecture style is pretty sad, especially if she's working on getting some type of education degree. I think she should spend more time teaching than trying to be friends. That's what she's getting paid for anyway right?
ok if you took a serious look at this class you'll realize that it's a huge waste of time. i love school but this is pretty pathetic. teachers shouldn't be telling personal stories in class, they should be teaching. book use is low, she lectures anyway. her lectures are a bit boring but that's what you get if you take her class. take it for easy A.
This is one of the best prof's ive had at CMU. She taught with real life examples and could really relate to the students. As long as your not an idiot, she is really easy to get along with. I would recommend her to anyone that wants a fairly easy class and wants to learn a lot. Not much textbook use which I liked a lot too.
For the person who said that a professor's "personal stories" do not belong in a classroom...ARE YOU CRAZY?? As a business student you can memorize all the books in the world, but the key to success is your experiences and the real-world situations you learn about. Also, it doesn't matter what prof. you take for BIS 101, it's boring and pointless!
She is a very good professor. She is more than willing to help, she tells you like it is and some students can't handle that because they're still used to being babysat in class. She will push for creativity and attendence, but it will pay off in the end. She makes you read and why shouldn't you? Great prof!!!
She tries to be nice but she's just rudeto people, she offers no positive reinforcement to her students. She makes us take tests as online ESSAY tests and gives you 2 hours to complete, she tells us to call her on her cell if we have problems but she just ends up getting pissed and TURNS HER PHONE OFF; she offers no help.
This prof is one of the best I've had, it's nice to see one that actually cares if you are learning or not, and shows you how to apply it in real life. She doesn't play, so don't try to pull one over on her and you'll do fine. I'd take another class with her in a minute!
Ehhh.. She is funny, and she makes what we're learning apply to real life, so I actually enjoy a topic I would normally hate. But she often isn't clear what she wants out of you, and if you dont do it, she lets you have it. She ripped one girl apart in front of the class for a presentation I thought was better than most, so it's iffy about her.. :(
Overall, I loved her. She wants you to learn, and succeed. She's intimidating at first, but she cares about her students. I would take her again in a second!
She is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Anyone that complains about her is just to lazy to do the fairly easy assignments she assigns (which aren't) that many. Being in her class is fun and very interactive. She really cares about her students A LOT and she is very fair and straight forward.
Kayla is pretty tight, her class is pretty easy and you learn a lot. I wish all teachers at central were like her and used her teaching methods. you have one project the entire year and a couple of essay tests but its relatively easy. great class and great teacher
Tired of old boring professors who read from their power points? Then take Kayla's classes. She keeps it exciting and you learn a ton. However, if you don't like to participate and you skip class a lot, you will probably not do too well. I loved her class and wish I could have her for all of my classes.
Great Teacher! The best thing about her is that everyone is given a chapter to present on. You can trade if you don't like that chapter. She encourages students to be creative with presentations. After each presentation, she asks the class what they thought about it. She will help you with your presentation so you get good feedback.
I absolutely loved Kayla! She is SO helpful and nice. However, she tells you like it is. If you suck, she'll be the first to let you know. Her stories are hilarious and all her exams are online and out of class. I wish she taught more classes- definitely take her!!
One of the best teachers at CMU! Not many assignments, and the ones you do have are all online. Grades very fairly. Need the book for the tests. definitly take kayla!
Not many assignments which is really nice and she gives you a lot of days off. Grades pretty tough, but you should do ok if you put time into it.
Class is fairly easy as long as you put in effort and her class is one of the few I'd actually look forward to going to.
Kayla is a breath of fresh air in the business college. She doesn't tolerate mediocrity and she's no-nonsense. She will care about your grade exactly as much as you care about it, so don't try slacking off all semester then tugging on her heart strings, she really doesn't buy any crap anyone's selling. That being said, I loved her and her class.
I do not understand how people like her. She does not teach at all. She just makes you get into groups and present. EVERY DAY. You have no clue what will be on tests, and she will say she wants one thing and then grades for another. A terrible professor who should not be teaching. I still got an A, but her class was not worth $1000.
Kayla is great i love her so much, at the beginning of the year i didn't like her so much but she has grown on me a ton, go to class and participate class will be a lot easier if you get involved also the homework started hard but got easy when you understood what she was asking for i cant wait to take Kayla again for another class. TAKE KAYLA
I took this course online over the summer. She was very helpful and very clear on assignments. Learned a lot. Kayla is a great professor!
She was a pretty sweet teacher overall and very accessible during the semester. I didn't like how we didn't really get into any topic in HR but a minor overview of almost everything. LOTS of papers!!! all 3ish pages or more and does not say real well what she wants you to talk about. Exams are easy and are online.
Kayla was great! I loved her as a teacher. Some people don't like her just because she actually makes you work. If you put in the effort and time, it will pay off for you
This was a pretty easy class. You NEED to attend EVERY CLASS or your grade will be reduced greatly. She is extremely unclear and unprepared for assignments and lectures. We had about 10 BORING guest speakers. Make sure you type 2-3 pages or so per paper and write about REAL life situations and you should be fine. Personally I couldn't stand her..
Has a chip on her shoulder bc she's the only woman in her dpt. Very unprofessional, puts down other profs in her dpt just to rant.class was a waste, didnt teach much of anything but LOVES group work. it's an easy A or B (tests are online and out of the book). gotta be lazy or stupid to get < a B.if there's no other choice, take her, but watch out
Covers up her lack of experience and knowledge with a lot of unnecessary group projects and in-class assignments, so don't think her teaching is "a breath of fresh air". Has a snobby sense of entitlement. Plays favorites, and her professionalism is questionable at times. If there's another option, take it.
Kayla does have a bit of an attitude but it's nothing intolerable. She has a "no BS" mentality. You have to go to class otherwise it will kill your grade. I learned a lot bc there was a lot of group projects and assignments that were easy points. Tests online...enough said. Easy A if you do the assignments and you actually learn something.
Kayla is definitely a professor that will make you work hard and with no B.S. However she was the most helpful and the most beneficial teacher I had at CMU (including Theeke). Her class is a lot of work at the start but towards the end is a group project where you gain some actual experience you can put on a resume. Ask questions. She helps!
I love kaylas teaching style! she is hands on and really cares about her students! She lets you text her with questions which is awesome and all of her tests are online! Kayla is very passionate about what she does and she even won a CMU teaching award! I freaken love Kayla!
Kayla is awesome. She really pushes you to do well in her class and doesn't take any BS. Her whole participation grading system is a bit out of whack though and seemed as though she definitely had her favorites...
Kayla is ok she doesn't take any BS. Also her whole participation and attendence grading system is a bit crazy. Easy teacher though
Kayla is okay. I think she is a great person, but I don't do well with her teaching style. You have to go to class or your grade drops dramatically. The quizzes are all online, you will use the book, and the tests are really nice because she lets you choose the style of the test as a class. This is not a lecture class, so be prepared to do work.
She seemed like she didn't care about the students very much. The test study guides didn't help much and she was overall just rude to her class. The only thing that was helpful was the speakers that she brought into class.
She doesn't teach you anything, you teach yourself. The speakers were 100x more helpful than she ever was. The first project we basically were sent out with the people in our groups to automatically know how to write a perfect new business plan. Her class was not a pleasant experience. I do not recommend this teacher.
Kayla isn't a bad professor... She just isn't a typical professor. The test study guides are not helpful. I didnt learn a lot from Kayla herself as much as i learned by reading on my own. I wouldn't take another course of hers.
I learned so much from this class. This class is a LOT of work, but in the end you realize how much you learned and how it is really applicable to the future. Kayla is a great professor who sets you up for the working world, so students who bash her need to try harder or learn to take initiative for themselves. Overall, recommend to take Kayla!
All I can say about Kayla is that she is unclear on how to teach her class because she relates it to how she trains for marathons. She believes that best way to teach her students is to PRESSURE them and put a crap ton of work on them. In her eyes her class is the most important. HAVE FUN WRITING A PAPER DUE EVERY THURSDAY 5-PAGES EACH! The worst!
Kayla is awesome! The papers that you write can be a challenge, but they help you learn. She is more than helpful and gives you the freedom to write the papers how you want with APA format. If you go into the class with a good attitude and wanting to learn (you are paying for this after all) you will have no problem with this class!
Awesome class only class I really look forward to attending in my day. Her class is a lot of work but she lets you know exactly what you have to do from day one.Papers are easy as long as you put in good work. Class is interesting no BS with her. I reccomend any class with her.
This professor is a hit or miss with a lot of people. While the class isn't particularly hard, it is a lot of work. The class lectures are interesting enough but I really hated writing papers. There will be papers due every Tuesday for about 5 weeks straight and then it is over. Overall a good course in the classroom, but the homework is awful.
Basically every comment that has a good rating is a girl. She favors girls, and obviously has pent up issues with men. She talks about her life experiences like she's 50 years old, when she's really only 30. She's a fraud.
Kayla is a great professor but expect a lot of work. She doesn't do much lecture or "teaching", so there is a lot of studying/reading on your own time. Projects are long and have a lot of autonomy making it difficult to know what you're supposed to be doing. MGT 447 project, unfortunately, has little to do with recruitment and selection.
Great professor if you're looking for real world advice/experience. Her grading is very subjective. She gives scores out based on no measurement (seems unfair). Other than that, she is knowledgeable of the subject and the class if relatively easy.
Expects you to basically teach yourself. If you don't read the chapters, don't bother coming to class. She prefers for you to teach yourself and for her to have "discussions" in class about what you read. Not a fan of this teaching method, but the class was, overall, easy.
Her tests were very straightforward (no trying to trick us), and we had a lot of in-class discussions. But, her participation score system was crazy and I feel she was very subjective in her grading of papers(there's a rubric, but she doesn't give one back to you explaining what you missed points on). Easy class though.
She cares about her students, but isn't extremely helpful outside of class through email or text. The tests & quizzes are straight forward if you actually go to class & read the book.
The class was pretty easy overall but Kayla was not helpful at all. Her grading system is unfair and if she doesn't like you, your grade will reflect it. If you're disruptive in class, she will probably love you. As weird as that sounds.
Very unreasonable professor. I would suggest you avoid.
I would avoid. Not helpful and can be rude at times.
Slezak was easy. you wrote 4 papers early in the semester and then just did in class group assignments. Exams were fair. She loved talking about herself.
She's okay, exams are easy cuz you can choose the format. There were 4 papers that were given with barely any direction to them. And when it came to grading the papers and projects it made no sense! You could do really good on the rough drafts but end up with a final grade lower then what the rough drafts equaled too. Make sure you participate 2
Kayla expects a lot but she is a great professor. I love the project based learning style she uses, although at times the client project and cases can become a lot to handle at once. I wouldn't have wanted to take 447 with anyone different. I would like to see some more objectivity in her grading.
I should have had an A in the class but got a B because she failed me in class participation. I showed up to every class and participated in class talks more than most others. she had no bases for grading nor did she give anyone their participation scores during the semester to right their grade. she hates men and prefers the girls in her class
I took this course online and I maybe spent a total of 3 hoursweek on the course and got a high A. Valuable information and really interesting papers, but wasn't really challenged.
I had her for an online class and it was my favorite class I've taken at CMU. It is impossible not to get an A if you finish everything before the due dates. She was very generous when grading materials online and even gave us a week off before exams. I've heard this class is tough in the classroom, but the 8 week online was a walk in the park
Unorganized, disrespectful to students, lack of clarity on directions. Taught myself this class.
Very unclear instruction. Repeatedly told us "she's just teaching the class, she didn't design it" & would send rude emails to the class regarding our work. Little detail/clarification on assignments. Group project is terrible & almost 50% of your grade. LOTS of reading, taught myself the class as she had zero interaction w-class. Avoid!
Im not sure what was going on, but the students taught themselves in this class. For as much as we pay in tuition, and the fact that very seldomly students are given breaks in the program & pretty much told to man up because this is a "graduate level class" - I expect not only my money's worth, but I expect the same in kind from a professor.
I truly enjoyed Kayla as my a teacher. I attended her classes through 2009-2012 and she truly had a great impact on my life and career!
I felt like she'd only give a good grade if your presentation or topic got the class arguing or disagreeing about something. During some presentations, I felt like I was watching a presidential debate, it seemed painfully unnecessary. I wish I could have had any other professor.
Complete Bit..... stuck up attitude worst prof ever....
