She's always there for her students whether its holding extra help sessions or answering questions on piazza. Best prof you'll EVER have.
Dr. Johnson is an amazing prof! Her lectures are very clear and she is always happy to answer your questions. She cares A LOT for her students - she goes out of her way and sets up times outside of class for 'extra office hours' if she notices people are having trouble with a concept. Amazing lecturer, and overall, one of the best CHEM 123 profs!
Even though Dr. Johnson gives us challenging practice problems in class, it all pays off in the end because she covers EVERYTHING you need to know for the exams, and her lectures are very clear and helpful.
She was my favourite first year prof! To this day I still can't believe that she created a custom 13-minute YouTube video for me explaining the answers to the list of questions I sent to her once through e-mail. She dedicated a lot of time to her students which I appreciated. Made 200+ cookies for our class after doing well on the midterm as well:)
most amazing prof I have ever had! super helpful and knowledgable and cares deeply about her students' success.
She is the best professor I have encountered so far. I just love going to her lectures.
She's a great professor, probably the most helpful and supportive professor I've met in UBC. She likes to have personal interactions with students, and she'll do whatever it takes for you to understand. Furthermore, she has several review session every other week, and they are very useful.
THE BEST OF BEST. I LOVE HER SO MUCH.
Obselutly my favorite prof!!! Her class is wonderful!!!! Highly recommend to take her chem
Kayli was by far the best prof I have had in university! Her lectures were engaging and she very thorough in her explanations. Kayli always made the effort to help her students and made really helpful youtube videos explaining difficult concepts. She also hosted group review sessions and was incredibly helpful during office hours!!
Dr. Johnson is amazing! She is extremely helpful and her lectures are very clear. She would go all out to help you. Never hesitate to ask her any question regarding the classes; she'll definitely try her best to help you. A+ lecturer. Simply amazing!
Dr. Johnson was one of the best profs I've had! She's super helpful and dedicates so much time to her students, whether it be lectures, individualgroup office hours or answering piazza posts. She explained the material very well and made lectures engaging and fun. Really wants you to do well: good at makingexplaining chem models to visual student
Best professor in my 1st year. Clear on everything and really thoughtful for students. Exam are not hard. Everything on exam are as expected. do not skip class or you will loss. I used to hate chemistry. But now I like it! She is really cute lol.
By far the best professor I've had in first year. Her enthusiasm made every lecture a pleasure to attend. Devoted countless hours to office hours, videos, and Piazza to help students succeed.
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING prof!!! she is my favorite prof that i have ever encountered. She is soooo friendly, and she explains questions in such a clear and simple way. she is the only prof who gave us extra review section, and i appreciate her so much for her help through out the term. attend her lecture and practice in class, you get a A
Dr. Johnson had fantastic lectures, and always asked for feedback from the students to see where we were at with the material. Uploads the annotated notes after every lecture, and assigns occasional take-home homework assignments.
100. best prof ever. she'll do whatever it takes to help you the best she can. have a question? she'll make a youtube video just for you explaining the answer. not to mention online office hours at night, lots of office hours during the day, super quick piazza & email responses, and shes so nice about all of it. she had the highest midterm average.
Dr. Johnson was amazing! I actually stopped going to my section because Dr. Johnson was much better. Great lecturer, crystal clear, cares for students, sets aside times for review sessions, prepares you extremely well, and is also VERY approachable. If you go to her office hours, she will help you until you get it no matter how much you ask! 333
She's downright amazing! So so caring and really wants to make sure that you understand the curriculum. Definitely my favourite prof!
Just got a quiz back out of 39 with an individual question by question review of what went wrong and how to improve. She did this for all the students in a class of at least 120. Best prof NA.
One of the best chemistry professors. She is so funny and makes class interesting. She really cares for her students and does her best to see us succeed. Favourite professor yet.
I am currently taking this course with another professor, but I always refer to Professor Johnson's slides and course materials because they are so clear, especially compared to the other professors who are probably super great at research, but not at all good at explaining chemistry to first year students.
Maybe the best prof you can get in the first year.
Amazing professor, lectures are incredibly clear, engaging and well thought-out. She really shows initiative to make sure every student understands.
Kayli bring so much energy each lecture and keeps you thinking. She sparks an interest in all of her students, even in difficult courses. She is very passionate about teaching and really cares about student learning. Would recommend her to anyone thinking of taking Chem: 10/10. Wish she taught more of my courses!
What a lifesaver!! Wasn't even enrolled in her section but she saved my grade for both the midterm and the final. Amazing slides, super friendly and helpful, and genuinely cares about her students. Hopefully I can actually take her class in the future!! She isn't that hard, but CHEM 123 is a nightmare. Take her class if you want to survive.
WOW! Dr. Kayli Johnson was so helpful throughout the semester. She truly cares about students' progress and puts in so much effort during lecture hours and even after lecture hours. She holds office hours each week to accommodate students' schedule! The BEST professor ever! Very kind and has a lot of quick tricks/techniques to approach problems.
u can get a better prof than her, 83 class average is no joke
One of UBC's best Chemistry professors, on par with the legendary Jay Wickenden. CHEM 123 is a hard (sometimes counterintuitive) course, and you have to work to understand concepts fully, but this prof had very structured and engaging lectures which helped a lot (I am an auditory learner, so this is highly important for me.)
One of the best profs Ive encountered this year and she wasn't even my prof! attend her section if you aren't able to get her as a prof, you won't regret it! amazing chem prof!
This prof is a true gem at UBC. Lectures are amazing and posts everything online so you can fully focus on what she is teaching during the class. This course was supposed to be a challenging course but thanks to Dr. Johnson it was very chill and easy going.
One of the best profs I have come across, she's great at making examples and helping you understand the material and truly cares about her students.
I really enjoy Kayli's class. She's the best professor I've ever seen!
A genuinely nice prof (to everyone) who is able to communicate knowledge very well.
I don't think I can get A in CHEM course since I am really not good at it. But with help of Kayli I did it. She is really helpful and caring. Also, she is a genius! Really want to take her course again.
Ridiculously caring lecturer, always available outside of class to help you and makes even the most confounding of problems a breeze to understand. She's the one who made me even consider taking Chemistry as a major.
Best instructor I've had in UBC.
Best prof in the Chem department. My favourite chemist in the whole world! (Take that Jay)
She is easily accessible outside class and extremely friendly.
She is absolutely one of the best profs I've ever had! Always accessible outside of class, and is willing to SWITCH her office hours to accomodate the class. Such an amazing prof
Kayli is awesome! She even baked us cookies after we did our midterm!
Out of all my profs this year, she has tried the hardest in helping us understand the material: puts in so much time outside of class to answer questions, even having office hours everyday during the week before finals! She also uses a messaging app called telegram and usually responds within minutes to answer questions. Taught a bit fast at times
super sweet and caring. Actually wants all her students to do well. Very clear lectures
Most likely the most amazing prof you'll ever encounter. Really takes time to help students and is great at explaining pretty much anything. Lectures are engaging and fun. I was really lucky to have Dr. Johnson as my Chem prof.
I wish Kayli would teach all my other classes. She responses very quickly on piazza, and her lectures are easy to follow.
Everything you could want in a prof and beyond. Great lectures, takes great care to give students feedback. Patient, approachable and always helpful. Oh, she also baked cookies for students before midterms.
Really really patient! always replying your question even after class or at weekend Clear lecture I would definitely take her course if possible in the future
After first year, I can already confidently say that Kayli will be the best prof I've ever had at UBC. She was an amazing lecturer and explained the concepts clearly. And she genuinely cares about all her students and responded quickly by email, piazza, and even telegram! Our lecture section was always full because other students would sit in.
Kayli Johnson is a GOD, she is the best prof you will ever have at UBC. SHE BAKED OUR ENTIRE SECTION COOKIES!!! Make kayli johnson your friend, everyone needs a friend like Kayli Johnson.
Simply put, if you give Dr Kayli anything less than 5 stars, you have appreciation problem. Shes that awesome!!!!
THE BEST PROF EVER!!! She was not my actual prof for Chem 123, but I heard about her from lots of other students, and I decided to try out her class. Seriously, thats the BEST DECISION I EVER TOOK!!! Her lectures are so organized, enjoyable and I fell in love with Chemistry all thanks to her.
She is the best prof you could ever have!! Not only she is she kind and caring to all students but she really makes the material clear and puts in the extra effort to provide more practice and resources for students. She is easily available to contact her for questions and provides excellent feedback. Could not recommend her enough!!
Amazing prof :)
Definitely one of the best instructors I've ever had. She goes out of her way to make sure everyone understands the content and she had office hours almost every day (even weekends) in the week leading up to the midterm and final. If you have a chance to take her course, you will not regret it.
Kayli Johnson was easily the best first year prof I've had. She is so helpful and accessible outside of class on telegram and piazza that she'll basically answer any questions you have 24/7. Her lectures and slides are incredibly clear and she goes to great lengths to help you fully understand the material. Highly recommend! Take CSP!
Amazing instructor and has great annotated slides to study from. Is extremely accessible (you can text her on Telegram and she'll respond, sometimes with a voice message), definitely cares about her students and is very cute as a bonus.
awesome. She is the best prof I have met. Very Patient !!!!!!!!
Really excellent proff. I'm not sure how she does it, but her lectures are so clear and make all the exams and assignments much simpler. She's very nice and approachable as well, and offers plenty of time to see her for questions. The best I can say is that her averages are typically 10% higher than those for any other section. Don't miss out!
If you take a class with Kayli prepare to be disappointed for the rest of your life because every other professor you have is going to seem so bad compared to her. She is very patient, explains concepts clearly, makes herself available almost everyday of the week, and genuinely cares about her students. Appreciate her, you're lucky if you have her.
Don't take me wrong, but Dr Kayli is tooooo responsible, caring, and passionate for a university professor. She literally goes EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA MILE to help her student. I'm not even her student anymore and she still answers my concerns immediately and gives detailed response. I am utterly SHOOK.
AMAZING. I LOVE DR. JOHNSON. She made o-chem ENJOYABLE.
She is honestly SO AMAZING! I enjoy going to her lectures and I don't have to worry about failing an exam in her class because she is so thorough in her lectures. She genuinely cares about her students and always keeps the lectures fun and interesting. Her class is the only one that I don't cry on the way to.
I took this course when I was reevaluating my degree choice and taking a variety of courses. I pretty quickly realized that I'm NOT a chemistry person BUT I LOVED this course and LOVED having Kayli as a prof. She is engaging and really goes the extra mile to help with academics and whatever else she can.
Best prof ever!!! So ORGANIZED and RESPONSIBLE! Her lectures are super engaging and just at the right pace.
Great prof:)
Legit just the best. That's all.
KAYLI IS THE BEST PROF EVER HANDS DOWN 10000000000%, super accessible outside of class, great to hang out with at office hours, and does not leave any concepts misunderstood, if you want to learn something she will make sure that you can. HANDS DOWN the best prof I have ever had in my university experience, She also replies on telegram FASSTTTTTTTT
Words can't describe how amazing Kayli Johnson is. She literally makes every single other prof seem mediocre. Not only is she super knowledgeable and an excellent instructor, but she is also the kindest, most interesting, and most humble human being you will ever meet. I would gladly take any course taught by her, regardless of subject.
She is incredibly organized, caring, accessible outside class and personable. She makes everything so easy to understand. If you have the opportunity to take a class with Dr. Johnson, take it!
Dr. Johnson is by far the most amazing professor I have had in my entire university career. I had Dr. Derek gates my first year and failed (along with 1/3 of his class). Then I had Dr. Johnson my second year and passed with an A. She goes out of her way to make sure her students have every fair chance and all the help they need to be successful
Dr. Johnson is one of my best professors i have had at ubc, she is really good.
She's one of the most caring and enthusiastic professors/teachers I've ever had. She really makes sure during lectures that things are clear for students and keeps her slides entertaining. The exams were fair and she gives lots of resources to study from. Go to office hours and review sessions! You'll learn a lot and she's good at explaining.
best prof.
Professor Kayli Johnson goes above and beyond!
Kayli is the best prof during my first year in science! She is super approachable and explains concepts really clear. She gives a lot of practices which makes all of her students succeed. If you're taking Chem 123, take it with her, or you can sneak into her lectures even though you are registered in other prof's section. Overall, she is the best!
Not much needs to be said. Dr. Johnson is an exceptional professor!
The best professor I have ever had in my life. I was really weak at chemistry but her lectures, notes and teaching skills helped me tremendously in doing excellent in this course. She is a gem of a person and there is literally nothing bad about her. She gives you tons of opportunities to boost your grade.
I honestly cannot believe how great she is for a uni prof.. so so helpful and really just goes the extra mile to help her students succeed; answered all of my annoying questions quickly on Telegram haha and ultimately helped me get an A in this course through her helpful notes and practice q's. She furthered my enjoyment for chem in general!
She is the best! She knows well how to teach clearly and how to engage the whole class. Even if you are not registered in her section, it is highly recommended that you attend her lectures if you wanna get above 90 !
amazing prof, she is so nice and will help you a lot
Nice, kind, amazing professor. She knows her subject well and is insanely good at teaching it. She finds little ways to make concepts easier. If you show up to class, pay attention, and see her during office hours, you can get a good grade for sure. She dedicates so much time to students. The best teacher I've ever had - so lucky to have her.
Even if she isn't your prof make sure you go to her lectures. She makes the content crystal clear. She uses telegram to give feedback and answer question outside of class and office hours. She is definitely the most amazing prof I have encountered at UBC so far. 110% would recommend.
One of the best professors that I've ever had. Her accessibility outside of class is probably my fave thing about her. She goes above and beyond when it comes to caring for her students' needs. Her clear understanding and passion for what she does is also very apparent!
The best prof I'v seen at UBC
Best professor that I have ever had at UBC, hands down. I may have failed the course, but it was in no way Kayli's fault. I am super upset that I don't have her again this term, but I do go to her office hours instead of my chem professor's because she is so sweet and helpful. She thoroughly explains the material in a way that just clicks.
She is an amazing and caring instructor who really makes it her goal to help students learn. She has online office hours for those who can't come in at regular office hour times and personally messages people who do well and congratulates them! Really sweet :)
prof Johnson was the best professor i have had the luck to have teach me. she is inspirational, great at teaching, and cares. she makes chemistry engaging and interesting. take her classes if you have the opportunity!
She is simply the best. I feel so blessed to have Dr. Johnson as my prof for chem!
Chemistry isn't my favourite subject, but wow does Dr. Johnson know how to teach! Her classes are engaging, and she manages to teach in a way that you can understand the material really well. She's so kind and so encouraging, chemistry was definitely more enjoyable thanks to her!
super nice prof, you will absolutely pass with flying colours if you attend her lectures. I mean I didn't but it is what it is
She really excels in this online environment! Her lectures/notes are clear and informative. Her humor is top-notch. We go through many poll questions, which is awesome. She has magical powers where she'll answer Telegram questions within a second. She asks is there is confusion and clears it up. Don't even get me started about Shark-man and baby!
Professor Johnson is very kind! I love her use of Telegram, she responds to questions very quickly. Sometimes she goes a bit fast during lectures (or maybe I'm just slow), but is always happy to answer questions and is very patient. Would definitely recommend taking a class with her!
Dr. Johnson is an amazing professor, she is so caring and very helpful outside of class. She will always go the extra mile to make sure we understand the material. I did not like chemistry until I took this course with her! I would 100% take a class that she teaches just for the sake of having her as a professor!
Though the course was tough, but Kayli's lectures and explanations were always clear. She gives SO MUCH time to help students, allowing us to text her on telegram and holding many office hour sessions. She also recorded explanations to problems to her class. She clearly cared about her students. Interesting and fun lectures as well. Amazing prof.
Kayli is perhaps the most approachable professor I've had yet. She answers all my email questions (about concepts or questions I can't solve) with VIDEO EXPLANATIONS. I've never seen another prof do this. She also allows you to contact her using a range of messaging platforms which makes her super accessible any time you need help or have questions
She is literally the best prof I could ever asked for. if you have a choice to take her course, just take her session. I guarantee you the best experience you could ever imagine.
Honestly a life-changing professor. The way that she taught changed my understanding of chemistry long-term. It used to be my worst subject and has now turned into my best. I give all the credit for my success in my second and third-year courses singlehandedly to her.
TAKE HER CLASS, you won't regret it. She is so so kind and explains concepts so well, so engaging, wonderful person and professor. Really goes the extra mile for her students and it shows.
She used Telegram to answer so many questions in her own time PLUS office hours (extra before exams). Very approachable and explains complex concepts in organic chemistry very well.
Her sections were ahead of other sections, which gave me more time to learn about the hard parts of org chem and answered MANY telegrams with video explanations and encouraged asking questions. Approachable, funny, gives many examples on top of course resources, and taught concepts SUPER well. ABSOLUTELY TAKE HER SECTION ASAP, you won't regret it.
Probably the BEST instructor I've had thus far. She is extremely passionate about chemistry and this radiates to every corner of the lecture hall! Dr. Johnson is largely accessible outside class via Telegram. Within minutes, she sends over a detailed voice message explaining exactly what needed to be clarified. I wish I took a class with her again!
Absolutely amazing professor! Loved every single moment of her class, it made coming to class 3 times a week enjoyable. I'm disappointed she doesn't teach anything higher than first year, I would love to take a class with her again!
Super accessible outside of class with telegram messaging + Piazza, extremely good lectures that targeted materials in a really good and effective way. Interactive class as well, and if you sit near the aisles when working on class problems she'll help mid lecture. Overall great prof.
Best prof !!!!! HANDS DOWN
Too good and dedicated as a prof that I'm concerned for her physical health. Almost 24/7 available on Telegram for questions. Very good emphasis on key points and easy to understand lectures. Enthusiastic and engaging. Wish she could teach all my classes.
Super good prof - definitely overworks herself so I get concerned, but I'm very grateful for her!
She is one of the best professors I had in my first year.
Dr. Johnson is one of best profs I have ever had at ubc and is the most caring prof I have ever met!
Professor Johnson is an enthusiastic, engaging lecturer who makes organic chemistry a surprisingly enjoyable experience. Her Telegram support and use of study tools like unstuck study help cement complex concepts.
I have nothing bad to say about the prof but more so warning people of learning styles similar to mine. it often takes me time to digest new material and she can speak a little too fast at times. Before I can grasp the previous concept, she's already moved on to explaining the next. She's super accessible outside of class, caring and fun!
Absolute goat professor, passionate about material, and spends a lot of her time to make sure we understand.
Quite literally the best professor at UBC. She is so badass. You will never find a professor who is this down to business and this good.
Still am not done the course but oh my goodness, she is AMAZING! Kayli cares SO much for her students and provides so much support. In lecture practice time, bonus homework questions and individual recorded feedback, pre & post lecture office hours, and is so active on telegram where she gives us the best help! Absolutely love her, truly the best
SHE'S AMAZING! I would 100% recommend her for this course, and I'm saying this right after I took a midterm and I have observed teaching from a few different chem profs. You can tell she puts so much effort into delivering the lectures and her language is very succinct/ precise, and you will not be confused. Love Dr Johnson but please take a break!
Best prof I've had at UBC, she is truly amazing and incredibly caring. She's so patient and genuinely wants her students to succeed. If you get the chance to take her class, you are SO lucky! She made chemistry actually enjoyable and prepared us so well for the midterms and final. Honestly, she made a tough subject feel doable.
Truly just an amazing professor. The best professor I have had at UBC. The other reviews are all true, and for anyone taking CHEM 123 next year, try taking her class!
Such a sweet heart, very relatable, teaches the content in a clear and understandable way for those who are just first coming into contact with it (me). Take her class!!!!!
Dr. Kayli was one of the best profs I took my first year. Definitely would take her classes again!
Kayli Johnson is AMAZING!!!! love her, take her class!!!!!
Dr Kayli Johnson is my POOKIE. Give this woman a raise and a nobel peace prize in chemistry 123. She definitely needs a day off though.
Really amazing professor and lecturer. Always willing to help students with the course so would highly recommend
she literally had a texting hotline open so you could send her voice messages and 3am and ask her to explain things to you. this woman is a saint. she had us engage with concepts in class and brought us cookies. literally take her a million times over. she does go a bit fast but she also provides recordings on request so you can review things
didnt attend a single lecture and self studied the course, but i felt her aura whenever i walked by the chem building, thats how you know shes goated
Kayli was super! She is literally a gem and she saved me in CHEM 123. They way she presents material is absolutely phenomenal. She is really passionated about her work, cares about her students and clearly knows what she's doing. If UBC was filled with professors like her, students wouldn't suffer. She is the goddess of organic chemistry!!
Live laugh love Dr. Kayli Johnson. The absolute goat.
Dr. Johnson is such an amazing prof!! She is accessible 24/7 on telegram to answer questions & her lectures are super clear & engaging!!! I owe my good grade in this class to her. Her teaching made me actually enjoy organic chem & I will genuinely miss this class. Take chem 123 with her you won't regret it!
MOTHERR! Nothing but good things to say about her! Really wish she could teach every chem course I take. Her lectures are engaging and she gives lots of optional practice on her glorious slides.
She is an amazing prof. Her lectures are so clear and easy to follow along, and she really cares about her students. She uses this app where you can direct message her any questions you have, and she will send you back a video response of her explaining it to you individually!!!
Kayli is the best prof I had at UBC so far. Her lectures are amazing, her slides are very helpful, and she is so caring and explains concepts great if you go to office hours. I would even like to take every chem course from now on with her if that's ever possible. Highly recommend, just an overall amazing prof!
Amazing prof! She made lectures really interesting and explained every confusing concept very well! Would definitely hope to have her as my prof again in future years!
Amazing prof and sweetest person. She is always available to message online, and responds ASAP. She is very kind and cares about her students loads. After the horror show of Chem 121, she made Chem 123 much better and more digestible.
Took her 203 lab. Very open to feedback, organized, approachable, charismatic. Students love her. Did not blame the student for mistakes, but gave feedback and helped them solve issues. Quick to respond to emails. I asked for an accommodation, and she went out of her way to offer additional solutions. Wants you to succeed!! Highly recommend.
i feel like ive been bamboozled in her 203 lab. everything was 'ungraded'. no criteria for lab reports, don't know what they're looking for. if you are inaccurate in self-assessing, you can get up to a 10% deduction. thought we were doing well but we get our first grades EVER on dec 16th. diabolical & i bet she isnt doing this for non-chem majors
Chem 203. Didn't get a single numerical grade until after the semester is over. Very nice person but the grading scheme isn't it. The grades are all over the place. I get a 40% on one assignment and a 90% on the next, then back to a 55%, but not thinking I'm doing anything differently. Wish there was criteria for what they want. Surprising.
Chem 203. The self grading policy is not beneficial. The first numeric grades came out TODAY. Expectations were unclear and I find it unfair when my grades are docked off due to "inaccurate estimation" because I don't even know how I am being graded on!!!!!!!!!!! I am very frustrated throughout the term and I actually put in so many hours into this
Had her for CHEM203 lab. Dr. Johnson is very helpful inside and outside of lab. Her pre-lab videos demonstrates everything and gives us a very clear understand what to do in lab. If we made a mistake in lab, she and the TAs will help us make plans to recover from that. She also refers us as chemists instead of students.
