this class is pretty easy. u almost don't have to do any work to get a b, and getting an a isn't that much more. professor is a nice guy, altho a bit lax. evaluation wasn't very helpful.
the class is pretty easy, I loved his funny off topic storries...he is very relaxed and a major dork...if you do extra credit you get the A
He's very laid back...way to laid back. He's pretty funny for a teacher and he looks sorta like an Asian Einstein. He let the TAs handle everything, anytime I tried to get help he would divert me to the TAs who were all on powertrips. The class itself was not hard but UBERboring.
He is great. He is very intellegent and he uses real life examples to get his points across.
very interesting teacher. makes lectures fun to go to.
Environmental Econ. and yes, he looks like an Asian Einstein...lol. He's a cool cat and sometimes goes on a tangent about his personal funny stories. I aced his class. Material was easy to learn and follow, somewhat boring, but hey needed to fufill requirements. Sat in front (stretch my legs) and missed several classes. TAs are helpful; however, most of the time they're not in class.
A really down-to-earth professor. A good storyteller. But his lectures are very casual and ineffective, and he won't buy you Sushi so you really have to be familiar with the materials that you are going to put in your essay exams. TA's consider themselves reader and tag-along. So go for help from the HEAD of the TA's only.
KC is hilarious! I would recommend this class. It's not very difficult and you will want to go to lectures just because he is so funny!
K.C. is funny, but he's teaching is bad. You have to read the book yourself, but the T.A. are super useful, and he got big curves in his class.
KC was not a very good professor. Nothing I learned in lecture helped me on the tests. His jokes would go on for several minutes, and made me just want to fall asleep. There are three tests each worth 30%, homework is work 10%. If you are taking this class considering an econ major, this class will not convince you. Do not take this for a GE.
Fung is a great guy. Loves teaching. Loves econ. He is very good at explaining the subject if you just LISTEN to him. Super willing to help improve his students education. You'll get a good grade if you just try.
KC can get very into his stories at times but if u listen you can get a lot out of them. He has a great understanding of the subject and is willing to elaborate if u ask. great guy
Never responded e-mails, unhelpful, unclear, and an uninteresting course.
Funny and great class for stories and his experience. though as usual he always complain about not getting the grant n stuff, and mostly essay exams are challening... but overall he did make generous curve for students though becuz of bad job the TA's did on grading them!
Awesome teacher!! He uses a lot of personal stories to keep you interested in class. The midterms were easy if you study the book and his lectures basically covered the book. Easy class with a generous curve.
Covers way too much material and compared to the other professors, he's not that great. Uninteresting in lecture and gives us tons of work. His tests aren't bad, but he just covers way too much stuff and so when the final comes around people are in the hole.
This class was confusing, mainly since it's a lot of material and he trys to teach concepts using anecdotes that don't work. Find a good TA (preferrably the head TA), and be prepared to teach yourself out of the book. Lots of homework too, just to let you know.
I barely showed up to class because he would ramble a lot about being poor, grants, pizza, whatever. Teach yourself from the book, go to MSI, go to reviews, but lectures aren't any help (he was interesting to listen to, though). He throws the formulas & graphs on the screen, but doesn't really apply any examples. Just remember all the graphs!
What I can tell about this class is Cheating. most of students cheated on midterm, Mr Fung and TAs are never effective to prevent Cheating. and also TAs did really bad job for grading. so if you wanna get A from class, you must cheat, otherwise, don't take it. of course, I got A from the class because of cheating
Great class! I love his sense of humor. I learnt a lot about East Asian economies.
He is very cosmopolitan. He has a lot of experiences and he makes his lectures very interesting. I love his economic policy memos from the white house.
kc is cool; he is personable and extremely fun, he looks like a japanese designer or einstein; with great hair; his lectures are amazing and he is one of very few profs that i can relate to
The prof is very inspiring! I tried to sit in the front row whenever I could. This is my favorite class. I never missed it. He is pro-america, pro-market and he is a great role model for minorities. He is charming. I am inspired to go to law school and then to politics because of this class.
my profs told me that asian profs are usually not so good..but he is definitely an exception...he is gracious, very helpful..i like listening to his stories..he draws me in..i like his hair..i am definitely going to focus on asia in the future..
he's gorgeous & yummy....!!!! loves his accent--it's part asian, part british and part american......he's a charmer, a seducer; lectures r mesmerizing; he's so energetic! sometimes he's too pro free trade and too pro america; he's also pro asia-will follow him anywhere; charismatic teacher!!!
He always talks about being poor, fell asleep in many lectures because he was kinda hard to understand... but I still passed the class :)
If you keep up with the material (online homework and all), his lectures are easy to understand and they will clarify any confusing concepts. Great professor! He's charismatic and funny as well.
KC FUND IS VERY FUNNY AND HIS CLASS IS INTERESTING. YOU WILL NEVER FALL ASLEEP IN HIS CLASS. AT FIRST I WAS NERVOUS TO BE IN HIS CLASS BECAUSE OF PREVIOUS COMMENTS BUT FROM OTHER STUDENTS WHO HAD HIS CLASS TOLD ME HE'S STRAIGHT FORWARD, MAKE THINGS CLEAR AND FUNNY.
I did not care too much for the subject of econ before taking this course but Fung made it interesting. His lectures were clear and he would always incorporate stories and humor to make them fun. The tests were very straight foward. I would recommend not skipping lectures but everything is straight from the book. Overall a great teacher!!
THIS PROFESSOR IS AWESOME, Fung is a funny guy with a lot of personality. Just him is worth going to lecture because it's always entertaining in his class. Very easy teacher, test are fairly easy and grades on a pretty big curve, homework is fair too.
Okay, firstly, K.C. is a pretty interesting lecturer, his stories are funny and he obviously knows his stuff. But overall his lectures are useless to go to, talking to him personally is pretty useless, he doesn't want to answer "questions" and doesn't even go to class during the Midterm and final. Very lazy professor, but I attended for the lulz
He is hard. His tests are hard. His curving may be big; however, at the end, the final grade does not seem to be curved. You have to study on your own in order to do well.
Professor Fung is absolutely hilarious. Overall the class was fairly challenging, and you must study to get an A in the course. Section is not a part of your grade, although its "mandatory". Throughout the course I went to less than 1/3 of the lectures and managed to get an A because he teaches right out of the book.
K.C. is a great professor. If you attend class regularly and do all your hw you'll have no problem getting an A.
KC teaches interesting material, and what you learn in this class is absolutely on topic, and will come up again. But anyone who thinks this class is hard is retarted. I got a D on my first midterm, and then a C+ and I finished with an A on the final, and took an A in the class. Lazy Lazy test writer. the most obvious questions are the ones asked.
kc is the best professor in the econ department; he is really interesting and funny and it is really clear that he likes teaching and he cares about his students. Some profs here keep saying that asians are inferior; but he is really really good. I learnt so much about the asian economies
KC IS SO FUNNY!! HE IS CHARMING AND CHARISMATIC. MORE IMPORTANTLY, HE IS WARM AND HE HAS YOUR INTERESTS AT HEART. HE TELLS YOU TO FOCUS ON THE LONG TERM, NOT JUST THE GRADE IN THIS CLASS. HIS LECTURES ARE AMAZING. I AM NOW SO INTO GLOBAL AND ASIAN ECONOMIC ISSUES. THE BEST PROF EVER!
amazing class..relaxed brilliant prof; a real expert on asia..covers too many countries..useful; would recommend to others
KC is an excellent prof, he makes his lectures relevant and interesting. He does not talk down to students...oddly enough, he is the only teacher that teaches european economies--I really like the European perspective. one of the best classes in the university.
kc is cool he knows his stuff he is fair i am really intrigued by his lectures on china i plan to do my study abroad in china cuz it's the future u have to attend his lectures to fully understand what he's trying to tell u he's kind of a rebel he's not really handsome in a conventional way but he is attractive and hot to me
incredibly effective prof. unusal but very friendly; connect well with me. will recommend him to others. i love his sense of humor. very global; a bit european, a bit american, a bit asian. attractive. do not want him for long.. just a few weeks in barcelona, a few weeks in geneva, a few weeks in tokyo.
Obviously more interested in economics than his students. Very boring and tends to be off topic. Funny in an unintentional way.
Not a great teacher. Teaches out the book. Tests are decently hard. HW is online and completely useless (his tests are way different). He's funny but thats about it. Lectures were boring and could pass without going (just keep up with the reading and hw, you'll do just fine)
KC is the man. There's no need to go to lecture. Just do the homework, study the test review sheets and go to the TAs review section. If you have any questions KC will probably email you back within an hour and be pretty helpful. You'd have to be pretty lazy to get anything below a B in this class. And he's hilarious.
GREAT professor. He knows a lot about economics and teaches the material in a funny, smart way. He lectures right out of the book so lectures aren't necessary but i always went because he rocks!
KC is a great, kind person. As well as a good professor.Speaks off topic way too much, but that's because his students are his friends.Wouldn't feel uncomfortable approaching him ever.If you truly understand the material, his tests are easy.He says the tests wont be tricky, but some questions are. Sections are very helpful. Ask him about curry tacos!
KC is a tight dude. go to class take notes do the hw. make sure to do all practice exams because he likes to recycle questions.
Very funny professor and cracks jokes in every lecture. His course requires all students to use APLIA and you have to pay $70. His lectures are comprehensible, but his tests are hard. He uses previous exams, so attend section to get the previous exam questions and memorize it! Tests are really hard. Overall, pretty good professor.
Really entertaining, I just went to class to listen to him crack jokes. Exams are easy.
Best teacher I have ever had.
Funny and entertaining teacher but all he does is teach out of the book. His curves are really generous. You must study for this class if you want an A. MEMORIZE ALL THE GRAPHS!
Easy class, but fun to attend. Passes the course without much effort, but enjoyed lectures. He makes many jokes in class which make Econ a lot more bearable. Definitely take this course if you need a GE.
great teacher. gives articulate answers to questions. lectures are optional since he teaches the material from the book. i attended because he has a good sense of humor and gave organized notes.
awesome professor with a lot of insights from the policymakers' point of view. brought along some powerful guest lecturers with him and i'm pretty sure most of us enjoyed it!
Teaches straight from textbook. Does not take roll. Attendance not required but suggested for discussions [test prep and ec].Really funny and knowledgeable guy. Attended class for fun. KC says the funniest things. Tests are doable if you study. Questions from practice midterms online.
One of the funniest professors I've had. Classes are not mandatory but fun to go to just to hear him give a lecture because his accent is awesome. Tests are alright, but he curves them. Overall a pretty easy class.
Easily the second best teacher I've ever had and best teacher in college so far. He keeps the class interesting.
He is the most funniest professor that I have ever seen. He explains the lesson so clear that it makes the book less complicated to look at. If you follow his notes, you will be fine in the class. He has great stories to tell and he genuinely cares about his students. All of his tests are fair. Go to section (for extra credit)!!
K.C is amazing! this guys is so funny and knowledgeable. He's legit. I highly recommend K.C. If you do all the readings and take notes in class you will pass. its a very straight forward class.
KC is awesome, here's what you need to know: You will need to buy/read the book. not all of it, but a good amount. Lectures are neither mandatory nor necessary to pass the class, but KC is an awesome lecturer and they are fun. For the tests he lists the possible topics and you need to wright short essays. They cover a lot of material but are doable
Super funny and chill. His tests are reasonable but you still have to study and pay attention. His lectures are fresh and entertaining.
Favorite Professor, wish I had him again for econ 2 this quarter. Econ 1 was fun, homework program applia was miles better than the "portal" they used next quarter. Experience, age, and attitude makes him chill and class interesting. Midterms were curved, tests were extremely reasonable. Sections, weren't required but did give minor Extra credit.
He curves the midterms extremely a lot. I never went to his lectures and still be able to teach myself. I passed the class with an A with little effort.
Had him for ECON 1, was excited to get him for 149 and boy was it a disappointment. He rambles on and on and the exams are straightforward but require long readings and a lot of memorizing. The material covered was uninteresting, confusing, and trite. Take him for ECON 1, avoid for 149.
The grade was solely based on the two midterms and the final. He gives you the actual questions to the tests and the ta's basically give you the answers, but each answer requires you to memorize a disgusting amount of information. (5 pages of single-spaced outlines per question) In hindsight, I wish I would have picked an easier upper-div elective.
the best prof i have ever had. very smart. should listen to him carefully. you will get a lof of useful analysis and insights. i wish ucsc has more prof like him.
THE COURSE IS HARD. BUT HE IS FAIR AND HELPFUL. CLEARLY HE KNOWS HIS STUFF. I WOULD LOVE TO WRITE PAPERSBUT THE CLASS IS WAY TOO BIG WITH MORE THAN 250 STUDENTS. HE IS A SMART AND CARING PROFESSOR
One thing that is rare about KC is he respects the students. And he respects all students--not just asians or whites or hispanics or women. He respects them all and he wants to make them all better. In return, I respect him.
I was disappointed with the overall course and the test requirements. I didn't take away much from memorizing facts/stats. I wish the course was taught in an applicable/intuition like manner. He's definitely enthusiastic and energetic. Quite the entertainer but not the learning experience i hoped for. Still humble after achieving so much inhislife
Fung was hilarious and made the subject so much more interesting to learn. Took this class as one of my first GEs. Could be tough but if you work hard you'll earn a good grade.
An amazing and entertaining teacher. I wish I had more time to take advantage of the class. But he definitely makes me think and he makes me want to study more about Asian economies.
kc is the man! he knows everything about asia. he is still very unassuming and hardworking. i wish i can be like him when i am older.
KC is, as the other comments mentioned, very entertaining. However, after not taking any econ in highschool, the first midterm was brutal. Do not let his casualness decieve you- you will have to work for your grade if you didn't take AP in highschool.
Though he is a funny guy, his first midterm was rather very difficult. It kicked me in the butt out of surprise. Disappointed.
Funny and easy going guy, but dont let that deceive you! Study the materials regularly as because his tests could be tricky. Do practice midterms that he gives, they are helpful.
KC's class is very good. Online hw is due every sunday and their are two midterms and 1 final. All of the study guides are VERY similar to the test. Overall, he makes that class enjoyable (and funny) and I found it easy. Take econ 1 with him, he is a really great professor
Fung is a great professor! He's pretty funny and sometimes he shares his life experiences. There is online homework but it's not too bad. The course overall is fair as long as you stay on top of things.
KC is by far my favorite econ teacher. He taught important information that actually would show up on the midterms and finals. Read the textbook when you're studying for the midterm and finals, it helps alot!
Fung is the absolute best professor I've had at Santa Cruz. I'm baffled when I talk to people who don't like his teaching style. He teaches in a way that it is truly helpful to go to class but not mandatory because everything he tests is in the textbook. Pay attention, do your homework/reading and you will definitely get an A in Fung's class.
I just had to write a review for Fung before I graduated. He is one of the best lectures in the Econ department. Is very engaging and gives many examples. His tests can a bit tricky but there is a HUGE curve. Getting an A is pretty easy if you know the material and memorize the answers to past exams.
Basically, he's a really great guy. Progressive ideas, great sense of humor, and really wants students to do well. He's just not clear and the class seems to be incredibly unorganized.
Great professor. Make me think. Inspire me. Enough said.
K.C. is a good man with a strong passion for what he teaches. He's kind, supportive, and funny to listen to; all good attributes for a teacher to have. However, his class is the least organized university-level class I have ever taken and his lectures are not clear in the slightest. He also assigned us an essay with an incredibly vague prompt.
He tells a lot of stories in class but he knows what he's talking about. I felt like I learned a lot more by reading straight from the book. Memorize the practice tests because they will help you, especially in the short answer questions. He gives a HUGE curve so you'll be fine.
K.C. is a very funny guy and the class has a clear syllabus. While he is funny and very easy going don't think that you can get by without studying for the exams. The study guides are vital to knowing what will be on the exam. He gives a huge curve on everything but you shouldn't depend on it. Not a bad experience over all.
2 midterms, 1 paper, 1 essay. Midterms and final were extremely easy. Just study off of his previous midtermsfinal. A lot of the questions are repetitive. 1.5 page single spaced essay based on a topic, not too bad. Overall his lectures were helpful, he really went into detail and made sure you understand things.
KC is a very understanding professor and he's there to help the students out. Also very clear about what he expects from the students. He's humorous and often talks about his wife and two daughters a lot in lecture. There are 2 midterms, 1 paper, and 1 final. Do read the book because it's helpful and do look at the short answers for reference too.
This professor is absolutely amazing, i usually sleep in class but he makes me engaged and is so enthusiastic. He is what every teacher should aspire to be, the test are easy and even if your not going to major in econ, take it because its a wonderful experience.
HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR IN UCSC EVER. He is somewhat "out there" but he is like a professor you would always want to get. He is hilarious with his examples and off-tangent topics. However, he spoils you a lot be warned about future professors.
I'm a computer engineering major and I just took this class for a GE and it wasn't bad at all. K.C Fung is a hilarious lecturer and a really funny guy. I didn't try that hard in his class and still got a B but with a little extra effort anyone can easily get an A in his class. Study the practice midterms and finals for they are very helpful.
KC is a really funny grandpa , i love him. His class is cool because of the curve. Dont cram
K.C. is really professional on economics. Although online homework is tough sometimes. His tests are very similar with practice tests so do the practice before the real tests anyway. Most questions are related to textbook graphs so get a book and read it! He gives a curve so this class is not hard.
KC is a good professor but he tends to tell stories that are not relevant to class. I read the book and it helped a lot. I took my own notes based off of the book and used his notes as a guide and to see what is more important. KC is nice and an easy grader the TA's are hard graders and they take away random points. They are also not very helpful.
sweetest and funniest man ever. K.C. is adorable and hilarious during every lecture. I would love to take more classes with him. Class wasn't too hard if you do the homework and study. Midterms and final were challenging but fair and he gives you a lot of opportunity to prepare for them.
Literally the easiest UD for econ you can take. Their are 2 midterms, a final and an essay, the midterms and essays are short answers. Go to sections or find a friend who does and they give you the answers, like EXACTLY the answer, just memorize it exactly and you're guaranteed an A in the class.
Went on a lot of tangents in class. Spent more time trying to be hip and cool than actually teaching. Lectures were a waste of time in my opinion.
Funny Professor, but after the 20th ambiguous example using Ferraris and iPhones to describe a topic, you'll lose your attention span and resort to being on your phone instead of paying attention. On top of that the homework is far more specific and tedious then the topics he discusses. Overall disappointed this was my first Econ class.
funny teacher!
I had this professor for Econ 1 last year. He was pretty clear on the assignments, lectures, etc. The midterms and final are much easier than the homework. He also had a sense of humor which makes the class fun.
KC is the funniest professor I've had at UCSC. Lectures are easy-going , but sometimes people are too relaxed to pay attention. HW was tricky but doable, and he drops the lowest two HWs. Both Midterms and the Final were pretty difficult. Study the review he gives out and read the book. He curves a lot, I got an 83% avg. on all 3 tests and got an A.
Funny guy when it comes to giving examples
Professor Fung is hilarious. While he does tend to digress during lectures, he is incredibly engaging. His class is heavily structured around the course textbook, so I'd recommend doing the reading before class so you'll have an even better understanding of the material.
Tbh I barely put effort into his class. I also went to every class when not many people showed every time. KC is so nice and approachable but his tests are no cakewalk. He curved both of our midterms because lots of people did pretty bad. The only reason why I was able to do well was studying from my friends' old midterms.
KC is a decent lecturer, but I learned most of the material for this class through the textbook. Also the curve is absolutely insane in this class, for the first midterm an 80% was an A.
I failed the first midterm, since I just didn't understand the material well, but did really well on the second midterm. He is the funniest professor and I learned a lot from him.
He's very funny, he'll show u pictures of him and his family a lot. Online hw using sapling. do well on the first midterm cause its easier than the second one, its very similar to the practice midterm, find old midterms from people who already took the class. Goes on tangents. If i had put a little more effort i easily would have gotten an A
KC is a very funny and friendly person. I found his tests to be pretty hard. I thought I was going to fail, but the curve is huge. Lecture wasn't that helpful. The online hw is a complete waste of time and is nothing like the tests. Go to section and find old tests to practice with. Section is crucial. Read the textbook.
The hws are not so easy but the class is overall great. And full attendance of sections can get extra credit.
Overall, K.C Fung is a hilarious professor and has an outgoing/ happy attitude. He gives a lot of short anecdotes in class which could be odd at times but he gives everyone a good laugh. Get ready to take lots of notes as all his notes are not online. As long as you take notes and go to sections and msi, you'll do just fine
Professor Fung was one of the best professors I have ever taken. Although I taught myself from the book most of the time, I enjoyed going to his lectures because of how outgoing and funny he is. Dude is super smart, and he know how to share that with his students.
Interesting and funny lectures
Sure KC can be funny but I am here to learn. This class required me to learn on my own through the e-book. The HW was really hard and had NOTHING to do with the hard midterms and finals. He also likes to play useless videos towards the end of class; everyone leaves when he does.
KC Fung was an okay teacher. He gets really off topic which discouraged my attendance. The class itself is easy but if he was less distracted then he would be a good professor. He is a fair grader and the essay/tests were pretty easy. Everyone can pass the class but you'll score higher if you can tolerate when he goes off topic.
Ya boi KC is one of the best econ professors out there. Just show up to class and pay attention and you'll get that A. He even offers extra credit to students who participate in the optional sections (not that you'll need it). His tests are similar to the practice tests and the curves are THICC as well.
KC is a funny dude and a brilliant economist. He does not seem that invested in his lectures or the class, and is almost impossible to reach unless you hound him after lecture. Honestly, just read the textbook and do the homework unless you're an econ major in which case going to lecture is more interesting.
Really regret not showing up to class. He's honestly hands down one of the best professors I've had at UCSC and he's extremely established in his field.
PLEASE take Econ1 w/ KC if you can. This guy is the reason I continued doing Econ. He's SUPER funny and his stories are all really interesting. Econ1 in general is a pretty fair class, but KC makes it much better and much more interesting than your average professor. Super cool class; please please take Econ1 w/ KC if you can, he's the G.O.A.T.
He gives us practice sheet but the real exam is almost total different( midterm2) He love us to do some extra reading and some of the reading is 22pages!!
His lectures are pretty boring, but they are definitely useful. He has online HW and textbook for around $70 and a 1.5 page paper due near the end of quarter. He has 2 midterms and a final, but his practice midterms are really similar to the real midterm. Overall, it is a pretty chill class to take.
KC Fung is probably one of the best professors I've had. His lectures. I really enjoyed his lectures and his tests were almost identical to the reviews that he made. As long as you study those, you're pretty much guaranteed a decent grade. His grading is also pretty fair and really just wants his students to succeed.
KC is the best Econ professor in UCSC. Highly recommend to take his classes. His midterms are so easy, and he will give the practice tests which are very similar to the real tests. Sections is not mandatory, but if you are actively in sections, maybe you can get the extra credit. Plus, only one and a half paper should finish. Take his class!!
Great pro
I hear he's a great professor in person, but avoid him if you have to take him online. He doesn't know how to use canvas well, there's no live lectures, and does midterms over email. He's also a bit hard to understand over video which wouldn't be much of a problem if he used slides and we were able to ask questions, but we can't do either.
I usually never post prof reviews but K.C. is genuinely a great prof and person. You can tell he cares a lot about his students. I write down all the lecture notes before hand (it's online) and as he goes through the lectures he explains the content very well. I don't go to sections and just study with practice tests, and have an A in the class.
K.C's a funny guy. He has big lectures so it's hard to get to know him, but you can tell he cares about his students. He's easygoing and if you put in the work, you'll get an A. Go to discussions for extra credit.
I took him for winter quarter 2021 and he has pre-recorded lectures that you can watch at anytime. Needless to say I crammed 17 lecture videos before the midterm and still did well. His midterm is only 20 questions that are directly asking about stuff he's gone over in slides. Not very responsive to emails and homework is optional. He's a nice guy
overall a good class. we had pre recorded lectures which isnt too bad and his midterm and final are exactly what youd expect it to be like which is nice. if you watch the lectures youll probably do fine. The essay was short and easy to get done and the homework was optional this quarter but it makes your essay grade worth more.
He is a nice person. The class is easy to understand. No quizzes, only midterm and final, but they are hard. He will give you practice questions before midterm and final, but only a few questions are similar to the practice questions.
a good professor overall. no too much homework and clsses are easy. However, his classes are so boring. I cannot help myself feel asleep and get distractions in his class.
He seems like a nice person, but as a professor he was very disorganized and it's impossible to reach him (never responded to emails, didn't post link to his office hours, unclear grading, power-points are so hard to follow, etc). Class is all recorded videos (no zoom), optional (but recommended) $40 homework, 1 term paper, 2 midterms, and 1 final.
KC is the best. He made me love economics and his class was super easy. If you study the book and you review the practice exams he gives (which are identical to the tests) you'll do fine.
Pretty simple class if you follow the syllabus and study before exams. TAs are very helpful go-to review sessions and you will be golden.
Seems like he doesn't care about his Econ 101 class, he just records lectures and leaves everything up to the students for exams. Boring lectures, no homework or anything to help solidify your understanding, if you're taking this class expect to be teaching everything to yourself.
Professor Fung seems like such a genuinely nice person. His class got moved online this year so all the lectures are recorded and you are graded only on two midterms and a final. If you watch the lectures, and study for the tests you should pass no problem.
Amazing professor! Even though everything was moved online, his lectures were very fun to watch. Super informative - I would highly recommend taking this class!
Professor Fung is a great professor who made the lectures interesting by using real-life examples and such. The class was graded by two midterms, a final, and one 1-2 page paper. TA sections are optional but are extra credit. There was no homework or anything, so you had to make yourself study often to memorize info. Practice tests were helpful.
He's so funny but not intently.
Super nice dude, but HATED his tests. They're formatted like AP exams, which made it difficult to be confident in your answers. However, if you watch all of the lectures and look at his notes, it's not too bad. Would take his class again and try harder next time
I PNP this course, and it is the last course I am taking in college. It is a hell easy course. Easy A if you take 1 hour per week. Easy pass if you take 10 minutes per week.
lecture videos were the key to succses in this class, however some of the exam questions were challenging and trick questions. He seems like a good professor, but the only human interaction you get is with the teaching assistants for this class which helped me. however, there was barely any meetings so I did a lot worse than I expected. stay on top
Great lecturer. Tries to make his video lectures as engaging as possible. Test can be tricky, so read each question carefully before you answer it. Essay is the easiest part of the class. Most of the office hours is from the TAs, but you can still reach out to KC if you email him. Recommend his Econ 1 class. I wish he taught Econ 2 :)
Although it could be hard to follow his lectures sometimes, KC was a great professor and I enjoyed taking his class! No homework, 2 midterms, a paper, and a final. Midterms were pretty much the same as the practice tests he would send out so it wasn't too difficult. Nice guy and makes his lectures fun and interesting
His entire class is graded on 2 MCQ midterms, 1 final MCQ and 1 paper. You better hope that you can get a good grade on all the tests. Gives no homework. Lectures are very imp, lecture notes are very broad so the topic is not clear. The topic is easy but his test formats make the class impossible. Only gives topics for the papers, no other info.
He absolutely gets the job done. Lectures are useful but attendance isn't mandatory, which is appropriate for an introductory class. The course was well structured and engaging. The tests are very simple so long as you study, which he makes easy by providing practice tests.
quite an easy class. Be sure to attend every discussion section because the TA literally tells all the answers of exams.
KC is a really genuinely nice professor. He is generally accommodating and easy to talk to after class. His lectures are kind of hard to follow and the class is structured the exact same every single day. If you reach out to him, he will help also at the end of the quarter he curves the midterms which boosts everyones grade a BUNCH.
This was by far my favorite upper division economics class. Lecture isn't mandatory, but they are really entertaining and interesting to attend. Make sure you attend sections because they give you the answers to the exams. Take this class if you want an easy A, as long as you put in a little work.
he's just so funny and caring and he understands our circumstances really well. his lectures are well structured and funny, he's really wholesome and has these memes, quizzes are extra credit and is an easy grader
LOVE THIS MAN! his lectures are so interesting and easy to understand, he has a midterm, a final, and a single one page paper for assignments (all easy). he gives you a practice midterm/final which are extremely similar to the real tests. he's funny and caring, awesome class.
His lecture was so calming. I felt kind of sorry for him cause at the end of the quarter very few of the students showed up to his class. The material was pretty easy to understand and interesting. There were two(or three?) writing exams and one essay. In the TA's section, he tells all questions and answers to exams.
Professor KC is such a laid back professor, attendance is not mandatory for lecture or section. I never went to either and did perfectly fine. Consists of 6 homework assignments (guaranteed full credit), two midterms and a final. His practice exams are almost exactly like the actual exams, so it's seriously all you need to study.
Pretty easy and useful class. Make sure to review practice tests!
If you aren't a good test taker don't take his class for Econ 1. Easy and chill professor to pass with but hard to get an A. 2 Midterms and 1 final add up to 70 percent of your grade. Essay thats worth 20% and homework is the rest. Overall chill if you just wanna get through it without too much effort.
Overall, had a really good experience with him. His lectures can get a bit bland but he tries to find humor in them when applicable. The midterms are pretty similar like the practice ones he gives you but having two midterms both being 20% of your grade can help or hurt you. Would recommend though.
Easy class, but his lectures are really boring sometimes. All of his slides are on Canvas, and he posts practice exams that are so similar to the midterms and finals.
3 midterms (1 is a paper), but only 2 count for grade. Final is cumulative. Very easy HW every 2 weeks. Lectures are semi-boring but he reminds me of my grandpa so I'm chillin. Slides are always posted but could be formatted better. Always uses examples in lecture to get the point across. Overall very easy class.
Very chill professor, had good experience with him. Lectures were a little boring but he posts all the slides online. Study the practice exams since they are super similar to the actual exams. Class was 2 midterms and a paper (can choose 2 out of the 3), and a final. Go to TA sections b/c they are helpful.Would recommend as a professor for econ 1!
Loved kc!! Class was graded on 5 hw assignments, 3 midterms (1 is optional tho) and a final. All test were multiple choice. He offered an extra credit assignment after the 1st midterm. I did really enjoy his class. Lectures were always enjoyable and easy to follow. Go to class, take notes and you'll be fine!
big chiller, love how he tries to keep content relevant / trendy. very accommodating and explains things well. econ 1 with him was 3/10 difficulty
Class graded on 2 midterms, final, & 2 page final paper. Class boring but gives all answers for midterms & final. Final paper short but incredibly vague with no prior writing assignments to get a sense of how he grades written work.
This is a very easy professor, I had him at an 8am time slot but he made coming in at that time okay. He is a very easy grader for Econ 1, and his exams are very similar to homework. Study that and I promise you that you will be okay. Fully honest, I stopped going to majority of classes halfway through and still passed with a good score
Had him for ECON149 and it was one of the best classes i've taken. Really nice professor, put all of the course materials onto canvas so was easily accessible. Grades were based on 2 midterms, 1 3-page paper, and a final. He also shares the questions for all the exams beforehand so you can plan your answers.
Entire class was graded based on 2 midterms, 1 paper (could choose to take all but only 2/3 were required), a final, and weekly quizzes. All of which were taken on canvas and on own time making it a pretty stress free class. Lectures were occasionally difficult to follow but always very helpful and directly related to the tests.
He's a great guy. He's super nice and everything but his lectures are almost impossible to pay attention to. Just be prepared to teach yourself most of the content.
I really liked this course. Make sure you go to your section and actually take notes!
He's very knowledgable about international economics and is very funny (a bit goofy even). His exam questions are pre-given to you, and lectures are basically dedicated to answering them. Section reveals those answers again. Difficulty of grading depends on the TA, my TA (Ayush) was quite a tough grader. Also KC is my asian representation.
Light. So light. It was too easy to the point where I felt bad because I wasn't learning bc I didn't need to pass the class. The final and midterm were both online, and the class wasn't mandatory. Sweet man with a thick accent, but if you pay attention, you will learn. And if you don't, you'll still pass lol.
Easy A. But probably you should do some studying outside of class. TAs are also phenomenal.
KC is a very sweet guy very down to earth, also very decorated with plenty of experience class was superrrr easy, didn't have to go to class, but a good teacher if you pay attention to what he teacher would recommend.
He is a good professor. His classes are completely lecture based and your grade is determined by a few tests and a singular project. He teaches to the midterms and gives the questions ahead of time. He goes off topic alot but works to keep the content relevant to today.
