She is one of those teachers that picks favorites. Her lectures are literally what you are assigned to read. It is very hard to stay awake in class.
Goes off on tangents, lectures on the reading so get the book or go to class. Attendance not mandatory. 3 unit exams, a midterm, a final, and a response paper. Pretty nice, plays favorites (but who cares).
I like her a lot. I wouldn't mind taking another of her classes. She is the kind of teacher who really wants you to succeed and will do all she can to help you. You are allows 3x5 cards for her tests and she offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. She is also really sympathetic to personal situations (i.e. death in the family).
I never went to class, she teaches straight from the book and she emails you her lecture notes. I recommend taking her for social psych.
means well, but doesn't explain theories and principles well. probably very difficult for people new to psych. don't need the book if you go to class, although many people won't be able to understand the material without it. easy class for me, but apparently not for everyone else. i scored 83% on one exam but ended up w/ 96% because of the curve.
Continually goes off on tangents during lectures. If you go to class and take notes (or if she prints up the slides for your class) then the book isn't all too necessary. she seems a little timid teaching but she knows her stuff. Tacks on a lot of FYI stuff. Tests were mostly multiple choice and is easy if you pay attention. Oh, and she's hot.
Towards the begining of the year she was not as clear of a teacher as she was at the end. Her tests are exactly what they say they will be. I got an A because I worked for it, but it is def. possible. She is a really nice teacher, and she's young so she relates to her students
Very text weighted class but lectures were still interesting and good examples were used to explain material. She is a very helpful professor and if you are having trouble with the material she will do what she can to help you succeed.
She is so cute! I love her. Her tests are so easy. She lets you have a cheat sheet (so make a good one) and she throws out about ten questions on each test that a lot of people got wrong. She gives 30 points extra credit too if you for some reason you don't do well. She is so sweet...take her!

Dont be decieved very hard teacher. but she is a really good and cool person. tests are very hard. gives extra credit. you will have to work pretty hard for a B and very hard for an A. she is also one of the most beautiful teachers at csuf so that helps a lot
TESTS ARE VERY HARD. The hardest part about them is lectures/slides dont correspond to textbook. But overall she is SO COOL and yes she is BEAUTIFUL!! Makes the lectures that much more bearable. Make sure you do all the extra credit.
very cool professor, easy going, if you find the lectures not clear, definitely go see her during office hour. Very happy to help students. Able to connect with students, unlike some professors, they look like they should retire 20 years ago.
HATED the class...biggest waste of time ever. BUT I liked her a lot...she will basically help you write your experiement write up...she gives back pages of feedback. By the end of the semester I had a lot of respect for her...but I still hated the class. She's also way nicer/fair than she appears. She tries to scare you in the beginning.
tough class but she makes it fun and doable.
Take her. She is a nice professor and easygoing. Her test are not that difficult either.
She is a very nice teacher and tries very hard to help her students. How ever, her lectures are very boaring and very confusing. If you want to learn something in this class DO NOT take it with her. There are other professors that teach this class a whole lot better than she does.
Very Nice person, but not a good professor. Her lectures are long and boring, and she tends to dwell on particular subject areas for long periods of time. She also lacks clarity in regards to her research project. She also makes subtle remarks that are usually belittling & not needed in the learning environment. I do not recommend taking her.
Dr. Williams is a nice and friendly prof. Her exams are pretty straightforward, but can get tricky on the short answer portions. The labs are fairly tedious or confusing b/c she does not elaborate too much, and her lectures can get boring since everything is straight from the txtbk. Otherwise, she's a good prof if you're willing to do the work.
I love her. Wouldn't want anyone else as a teacher.
AWESOME teacher. SO FREAKIN helpful. easy to talk to. Its a rEALLY boring subject, but totally doable cuz she helps out alot. I was freaked out cu i did pretty bad on the exams but the grading is very spread out so as long as you do well on EVERYthing else... you'll do fine. Plus shes an AWESOME teacher.
Loved the class. It was more of a discussion than lecture, which has its ups and downs. Because of that, the tests are basically out of the book. But the book was great and interesting to read. There is a LOT of busy work, but if you start it early enough, it isnt as bad. lots of busy work. But i really liked her.
She Rocks!! So helpful! Scary at first but she's like that for a reason. I love her! I hope to get future classes with her!
Nice enough teacher, but very disorganized at times. If you take her class, make sure to double or triple check when assignments are due.
She is an awesome professor but she does work you very hard. I see that she expects a lot from her students but it is worth it. She definitely cares about her students. Her class is interesting and she is helpful. I recommend taking her.
Hmm....she is a tricky professor to rate. Class is pretty easy but her exams have NOTHING to do with what she teaches. Not even the book helps with the exams....wtf. She gives a few writing assignments and it seems like if you dont agree with her views she will take points off. She also picks favorites so get on her go0oo0od side asap!
She is really sweet, and I find her lectures, for the most part, to be very interesting and easy to understand and pay attention to. Her tests are VERY hard. Other than that, if you do the homework, pay attention, and read the little magazine-style text book, then you're good. I really enjoyed this class.
Shes a very sweet lady and her lectures are always interesting. She makes everything easy to understand and always has powerpoints. Not only does she sit there and lecture but there is always little videos to further one's understanding:] One of the best professors I have had.
Great class, engaging, practical.
She's a funny teacher at time and tries to keep your attention however her test were hard. On one test there was only one A like three B's and the majority of the class were D's and F's...now what does that tell you. Homework and projects were VERY easy though and there were plenty of extra credit opp.
She is an amazing professor, must take her class, extremely helpful
She is very sweet & funny. BUT, her powerpoints and lectures in class are useless. Labs are just lab packets, you don't learn much in lab. Tests are all online & ALL textbook. This can be a good thing, but bad because you don't learn anything in class. Semester group project is easy IF your group gets SPSS. She expects everyone to know SPSS too.
Her lectures & power points have nothing to do with the tests. Even the book can be useless at times. The tests are mostly on applying concepts. You pretty much have to figure it out for yourself because it is not straight forward at all. She is nice, however she is not very clear. She expects you to know SPSS already. I would not recommend her.
The class is kind of boring which is disappointing since I was really looking forward to taking it. She's really nice and funny but she recycles lectures so it's almost pointless to go to class. 4 tests-all online. one huge project due at the end of the semester. one group presentation. and little assignments due almost every week. busy work
She was an amazing professor! I loved going to her class and she was very funny. The only thing is that her class is a lot of work. Her tests are all online which is good because it is open book but you definitely can't slack off. The group presentation was easy but the final paper is very very long.
Exams are based on the book. You will not pass the exams if you do not read. The upside is that there are a lot of assignments. One big term paper. Make sure you read and do all of the assignments. This is a 400 level class! Don't expect it to be a walk in the park; there is a lot of work required.
great professor and great class. You really have to study for this class however. Very few A's were given and that seems to be the norm. She will go out of her way to help if you just ASK! Talk to her, she can be a valuable resource and really cares about her work and students. Be prepared to study a lot, read the book and do all extra credit!
Gorgeous professor and sweet....she also knows her stuff. I think it's important to note here that the exams are difficult. You have to invest your life and ALL resources to study for them. But do all the work (read the book), ask when you need help and do the extra credit. You will do fine
Very sweet and caring professor. The exams are 60% and they are super hard. Even if you read the textbook, the questions are worded differently. Take this class only to have fun if you want an A or B you have to study your life away, and even if you do there is no guarantee of a decent grade. Good luck!
She was such a good, sweet, and caring professor! However, her exams were ridiculously difficult. I studied for days but it felt useless when it came to exam taking. But the MOT extra credit allows for a really good boost at the end. Used the book a lot! Attendance isn't mandatory but it was helpful if you listened and paid attention in lecture!
Professor Williams makes this class so interesting! The way the class was structured over the summer was very clear but it was alot, which is understandable. Overall she did a great job!Shes very helpful but she doesnt really respond to emails, she will fix any problem you email her about but wont tell you she did it. other then that shes great.
Dr. Williams is a very nice professor who cares about her student's success. With that being said, this course was challenging. Many exams based on the book, a group presentation, and multiple assignments. DO NOT fall behind in this class, there's a lot of information to take in. Good professor, challenging class. Go to her office hours often.
She's one of the best teachers I have ever had. She really knows her stuff. Test are hard, but just make sure you read the book. All her tests questions are from the text. Lectures are interesting, she makes it easy to understand the concepts from real life experiences of her own. Most importantly she really cares about her students, She's awesome.
nice and funny. Lectures are interesting. tests are really hard even if you read the book. She took forever to post grades online. 4 hard exams, 1 group project to make a video presentation. this isnt hard, but is is time consuming and hard to coordinate without knowledge on video productionediting, and little assignments. extra credit is offered.
She's a real smart lady but she was kind of rude whenever I emailed her for help or an explanation on anything. Her testsquizzes are also very hard
Looking for an easy A this is not your class. If you want to take something from the course Dr. Williams is your woman. Class is a tad challenging but we are in college so you should be prepped for it. Make sure to have the textbook and be prepared for group presentations. She knows her stuff! Took 2 different courses with her cause she's awesome!
There is no feed back from her on your papers or tests. She is always behind grading tests and papers but expects too much from students. In every single class she makes sure that you know "she is a DOCTOR" . Run while you can and save your GPA! Do not recommend her at all :(
4 movies, 4 papers, 4 tests. Busy class. The subject is easy but she makes it complicated. She does not give feedback on your papers. VERY tough grader and also VERY slow on grading papers. VERY disappointing class.
She is a good professor, but tough. You have to read in order to do well on the exams. She takes information from the book. She makes you do a group video project.
Professor Williams, what can I see? She is AWESOME!!!! I absolutely love her. She definitely makes you work in her class. I have taken her for two of them so trust me when I say her class is tough. With that said, she is such an inspiring professor! She really gets you thinking about "you" and the world around in this class. READING IS A MUST!!
One of the best Professors I have had. Exams are made up of lecture and text book material. Both are necessary to pass. I will be taking Doctor Williams again, Her class reminded me why I chose to attend college.
Her lectures were very general, only going over the headings of the chapters in the book. If you do not read the book and remember all the research experiments, you will not do well on the tests. The exam questions are very difficult and the class average was always a low C. She's fun and funny in lectures but not great at getting material across.
Very slow on grading but gives too much work and expect everyone to be on time! She talks too much about her personal life but does not care about students life. Very tough grader. Do not take her if you do not have it. Lots of pop quizzes. This is a 300 level class not kindergarten!!!!! Avoid her classes if u can :(
Professor Williams loves what she does. She accommodates every student and truly wants everyone to learn the material and pass. Yes, she makes you work for the grade, but isn't that what college is for? Show up to lecture, skim the textbook, and you'll do fine! We didn't have paper. Just a video assignment, which was fun and easy!
Professor Williams absolutely loves what she teaches you can sense her passion when she lectures. This class isn't an easy A, but it's a 400 level class so don't expect anything less. Overall the class isn't difficult if you follow the syllabus and read and write at a graduate level.
She gives too many paper and talks about her personal life A LOT! The subject is not difficult but she makes it look hard. Teaching at university is not for everyone and I believe some people need to do research in lab instead of teaching. Do Not recommend at all!
Do not take this class with her. If you skip a class, you won't pass.
Dr. Williams is very sweet, and seems to enjoy what she does. However, her lectures have nothing to do with the text, and its more rambling of her family. Her tests are near impossible, everyone averaged 60-70% on the grades and she still wouldn't curve. I work hard and got A's in all other classes, A is near impossible with this professor.
I actually had her for 2 classes last semester and while her tests definitely weren't easy, she is a good teacher and I found her lectures to be very interesting. She is willing to help you with papers if you bring her the rough drafts and offers extra credit. I thought she was a good teacher. You definitely need to study for tests though!
Really difficult exams, lectures can be a bit boring, and her slides are not ideal so if you don't pay attention, you will be lost. Lectures are not directly from the book either. She's friendly though.
Read syllabus for clarification. 15 quizzes each 10pts (sometimes up to 40q),13 video responses, 2 x 50pt midterm/final (all timed 85sec per question) 2 page paper, 2 hour mandatory research. This class is tough!! Textbook is KEY do NOT rely on ppt, pointless. Use quizlet&book for quizzes. For exams, use McGraw AP psych questions .doc
She explains things clearly and in an interesting way. People seem to complain about her talking about her personal life, but I think she does so in a way that is relevant and awesome. Our own experience is one of our greatest tools. And the tests aren't THAT hard if you read the book and review lecture.
I made the mistake of not reading reviews before I took this professor. Listen to the negative's over the positives. Her grading is inconsistent and tough. The subject material is easy but her test were impossible. She is extremely condescending in her emails and loves to remind you she is a "Doctor".
I agree with the previous reviewer and more. She has a patronizing way about her and she gets off topic, speaking about herself. As result, you don't get a good lecture on the material. She says she loves other people's behavior mistakes, but she should look at her own. She is not a nice person at all or a good professor.
Her tests are monsters!! You MUST study from the book. Her power points mean NOTHING and she states this often they are to keep her mostly on track during the lecture. She is great to take if you already have a base knowledge of the material or you can cross-pollinate from your other Psych classes. She is genuine and kind and cares about students
Professor Williams is lovely! She uses personal stories and academic knowledge to highlight the concepts, and offers a range of ways to earn points, including; papers, presentations, peer-review, and of course, exams. The exams are very specific to the textbook, so annotation and critical reading are essential to getting a high grade.
Loved this professor! She was super nice. I took this class on CSUF Irvine campus, so it was a super small class and she was able to get to know her students. Overall interesting class. Tests are a bit hard, but Dr. Williams was an amazing professor and made the class enjoyable.
The class was very straightforward. 4 exams, 3 essays, and 1 extra credit opportunity. BUY THE BOOK! Her test questions are straight from the book so you have to read. She is very understanding and can be easily reached by email. The class is a lot of work but very doable.
easy A if you try, but I don't rlly recommend bc its a huge waste of time especially online. 16 quizzes total & only uses 10 for our grade so she automatically wastes 6hrs of your time. 3 essays that are "self reflection" & "no wrong answer", but still grades harshly. 4 long exams. Group discussions too. lecture is a waste of time. I could go on.
16 long quizzes and 4 non cumulative very long exams, she only counts 10 quizzes though, grades the "reflection" essays really harshly with no feedback. not a hard class if you try, but her lectures don't really explain much, you have to teach yourself. I recommend using quilt to study. It's a more tedious than anything.
if you are taking this as a remote online class, beware that she will be aware of any online communication platforms such as discord. Hands down the most unclear professor I've ever had! She does group online discussion, which I thought was an individual assignment. However, she makes you responsible for your teammates to post in those discussions.
Lecture is given but not helpful. She is not clear in linking her lecture to course material content, so you end up reading to teach yourself, she rambles on. Slides are minimally helpful, pretty much just copy pasted from the book. Quizzes/Exams are difficult as they are scenario based but made more difficult since you teach yourself the material.
Lectures are minimal and won't help you at all. Most of the time I had to read the whole chapter and teach myself, which in my concerns is not fair since we pay a lot to have an educator. Tests and quizzes are completely scenario based. Individual and group assignments are a joke, you won't learn anything and seems as if you were doing a kid's hw.
Worst professor I've had at CSUF. Tests are coded wrong and she refuses to say she made mistake. Refuses to answer emails. Not clear and harsh grading. Lectures are useless, her tests are unclear and ambiguous. Tests/quizzes incredibly hard and not given enough time. Weekly quizzes, discussion posts, 3 tests, 1 essay, 3 writing assignments. AVOID!!
show up to class yall. idk how people learn material then complain without putting in the work. definitely get the textbook she lets u use ur notes. quizzes every week, assignments are short and easy, the tests are easy when u STUDY THE VOCAB. that's the key bc her tests are applications of the vocab. I got an A, just put in the work and ur fine
she does a good job of staying on topic throughout the whole lecture. a lot of information in every lecture. she can be a hard grader when it comes to papers. exams are hard, very specific questions. she expects a lot from her students. never knew my grade the whole semester because she doesn't use canvas' grading scale
she is such a horrible professor and ignores emails. she also made her own zoom time which wasnt accommodating to everyone. exams were on friday and saturday making it difficult for those who work weekends. never gave feedback on assignments and would take points off for no reason. exams were challenging and nothing like what we learned. avoid her
papers r graded pass fail, very harshly- gives one chance to fix paper, lots of homework though its easy, lots of reading. wouldn't recommend if u cannot pay attention to lectures
If you can, avoid her, if not then this class is manageable. you teach yourself, there are 3 papers which are long and take lots of time, then one very LONG paper. She grades hard on the discussion posts and the exams are very hard but you can do well on them. She doesn't reply to emails and will send emails being passive aggressive.
She is a sweetheart and works with her students. 3 exams, 15 quizzes (1 per chapter, but the 5 lowest grades get dropped), frequent discussions posts, 3 personality short papers due, but are used for a final paper. Exams are hard and application based, meaning it's not simple definitions, but applying concepts to examples. Extra credit is offered.
Dr. Williams is a really good professor and her tests are very application based she does mention a lot of the things on the tests in her lectures. She does not just read off the slides, there are 3 exams, 1 big paper, and about 2 smaller papers that are super easy, and chapter quizzes. The 2 small papers are to help with the 1 big one.
Really good structure for online class, and understanding. I would take this professor again.
Williams is a sweet lady, her exams were kind of difficult but doable. If I'm honest i was hardly in class and still managed to pass exams as long as you keep up with the lectures. I highly recommend starting the SONA research early in the semester, there aren't many studies left towards the end. Overall recommend!
She grades black people harder than white people. Hense why I got an A without trying
She's a sweetheart and makes her lectures very interesting, however it is very lecture heavy. The tests can be difficult, but if you attend class and pay attention, or at least get the notes online, then you should be able to do well on them. She is very helpful when emailing her about problems and can be very understanding. I recommend taking her!
Worst professor I have had in my four years of college. If you can avoid her do yourself the favor and switch. She never responded to any emails I sent and her grading made no sense at some points. For a health psychology class focusing on reducing stress and improving health she quite literally does the opposite.
Unorganized, extremely unprofessional, and unwilling to teach. Williams has also fallen victim to being another lazy and pompous professor who lacks empathy for students. Avoid at all costs if you can. The work is easy, as she does not put any effort into the coursework, but not worth the lack of professionalism and attitude received by Williams.
⚠️DO NOT TAKE HER⚠️ I gave her the benefit of the doubt, but the bad reviews are true. She's unresponsive, grades harshly (always 1 point off), and the class is disorganized. She rarely replies-VERY SELECTIVE, locks the gradebook all semester, and still hasn't posted final grades. Avoid if you can.
She is a sweetheart and I would take her again. Emailing her and going to office hours was very easy and she was super helpful. The tests are very application-based but are gone over during lecture.
Do not take Dr. Williams. She is unclear in her rubrics, she posts assignments literally on the due date, and the class is overall very unorganized. Even attending office hours doesn't help. I would avoid her if you can.
Very unorganized, even though it's pretty chill and laid back, her grading criteria is unclear and she is unresponsive to emails.
