Very good professor for those wanting to explore meteorology without getting too overwhelmed.
too excited about when it snows, but wears a mask on halloween!
If there was an award for the worst intro. class at Rutgers, this guy would have it. Very unhelpful...thumbs down.
Great guy. Tries to be funny. Fairly easy class. Little hard for a intro class.
exams are crazy hard but class is pretty smooth
The HARDEST intro class at Rutgers. Might be good for science majors, but everyone else, stay away. Tests are very hard, and lectures are confusing; he uses powerpoint but tells you to not pay attention to it(whats the point then) and listen to him.
a nice prof, tries to be funny and relates almost everything taught to everyday life-which is helpful. a tough class, b/c there's a lot of specifics, but if you read the text and go to lecture, you should do fine.
not a bad class, a good guy, go to class
Very clear, very knowledgeable about meteorology, and very normal compared to most profs.
Very nice guy makes the course easy to understand. Easy intro course if you need an elective. Enjoyed the class and it's an easy A.
dont take it for an easy science because it is not. the tests are very difficult and he asks a lot of application questions so you should be sure you understand the material. Read the book b/c it contains lots of necessary info not covered in the notes.
Rude, abrasive. He is a rigid person, dont ever ask him for any help, because he will reject you rudely. Boring lecturer, and thinks he is cool w/ his laser pointer. Nitpicks on exams, and his "curve" is a joke.
Nasty nasty person......needs to learn some social skills and professonalism....tests are difficult, and we will never, ever help anyone
Monotone lectures. Puts most of the class to sleep. Tests aren't easy and his lectures don't help at all with them. You need to study the text, and barring that attend lecture only because a few of the questions are based on his lecture. AVOID LIKE PLAGUE
The class itself is not bad, but i dont like him as a teacher. hes not that approachable and he asks the same questions over and over again on the exams. His lectures are boring and he adds to much to powerpoint.dont take the class unless you have to
he is the most boring professor. if you take a class with him, make sure to take the class is after lunch b/c u'll def. fall asleep. and he goes through lecture way too fast - make sure u can write fast if you wanna keep up!
WAY WAY WAY too fast in lecture... HUGE slides of endless babble... but at least he tells you the next day's weather.
Tests are damn hard
Material isn't bad, but tests don't reflect the balance of the information gone over in class. Lectures are boring; there are daily "map discussions" which are pointless; waste of ink. Don't take just to fill science requirement, should only be
Horrible teacher.Very boring. The guy is such a jerk. Dont take him unless its your major!!!
Mr. Arnesen is one of my favorite teachers. I took the class as a science requirement but it was sooo much more fun than I expected. He makes funny jokes and teaches in a way that makes the subject interesting. aaaand u know what the weather will be like!:)
great teacher.. makes class fun! easy to understand and clearly explains all the material. take the class! it's interesting and the tests are easy as long as u get the notes.. and the laser pointer is cool!
He was a great teacher. Highly organized lectures that were fun and practical, which included a weather report every class, however the grading system was rather tough. I expected an A, only got a B. I'd say take the class its fun and interesting. Just make sure you study for the exams.
awesome guy, interesting class. did great job making the material fun and keeping me awake in lecture...go to class and the tests wont be that hard, i got an A with little effort, just showed up and paid attention and reviewed my notes
The guy is a straight up stud.
WAY WAY WAY hard tests that do not reflect the notes AT ALL; rough grader and NO CURVE!!!. He uses examples of stuff for his questions so unless you REALLY REALLY understand his concepts (and he has MANY) you won't do so hot... take if you dare, all I learned was the weather for the week...
Tests are kinda hard, but he'll give help if you ask for it. Love the map discussions, it's nice knowing the weather for the next week. Probably helps that I'm a meteorology major, but quid quid.
Horrible teacher. Is very unclear. Exam questions are all concepts questions so you have to really know the material. He is very boring He is cocky and explains test answers as if they were common sense. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!!DO NOT TAKE IT TO FULFILL YOUR SCIENCE REQUIREMENT!!
Not at all enjoyable. Very Boring. Tests are HARD! Try to avoid taking this class. Not an easy science requirement!!!
Even though the material taught is not very difficult to understand, the lectures are boring and he flies through the material so we can't even listen to what he's saying, just frantically copy the notes. And he is an unfair grader, only counts 3 tests and a final. Doesn't count participation.
If you think this guy's test are hard you don't belong in college! He kept class interesting, and was very knowledgeable on the topic.
Prof. Arnesen is a great teacher! He explains the material very well, and relates it to every day weather during map discussion, which reinforces the material. If you pay attention in class, do the reading, and study for exams, you will do very well! Plus he is such nice guy.
This guy was a total bore and he was also quite nasty. he was totally miserable the whole semester and blamed it on being sick. his testa were very hard and he really didnt teach the material he just clicked powerpoint slides that were vague and pointless! DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!! Find another science requirement!
great teacher and great guy!
Not the nicest guy in the world, but a great teacher. Just go to the lectures (which only about 1/3 of the class does) and you'll pull a decent grade without studying. I HIGHLY reccomend bringing a laptop. I've never seen anyone fly through a powerpoint like he does. It's nearly impossible to keep up by hand.
great guy, very cool, just go to class but you can miss a few. Talk to him when you can hes very interesting
went way too quick through powerpoint presentations...seemed somewhat rude in some of his comments to class...map discussion for 20 minutes in the beginning of class will put you to sleep
Super cool guy, super cool class. Go to every lecture and take copious notes, most of the exam is from the lectures. Know the key points from the book. Lectures are very interesting, based around Powerpoint. You'll learn a lot if you just study and basically do what you're expected to.
I loved this class!!!
This professor is amazing
wat r the exams like? hard/easy? multiple choice/essay? thanks
Great teacher, great clarity, tests basically only on notes
Some what of a boring subject. He uses all powerpoints so write quickly because he goes through them quickly. Exams mostly on notes so go to class and take notes.
Pathetic, i dont know where the questions appeard in his tests. i am an A student. Never got anything else my whole life. thanks to this retarded class i have the first B in my three years of college. Not tested on major points but some insignificant hidden data. Fellow strongly believes that the majority of the class should get C's. NO extra credi
very vague questions on exams. three class tests-70% of grade, one final exam 30% of grade. VERy vague questions, not helpful if you ask wat you are being tested on. does not care about students progress. very old fashioned!!!
Well, this proffesor is pretty selfish, he won't give extra credit unless you have F. When you approach him for help, all he says is that not everybody can get GOOD GRADES. Please I had straight A before taking his class.
Anyone who gives this man a low rating must be those who don't show up to class, take no notes, and expect to breeze through the exams. If you show up to his class, take notes, and study for 45 minutes the night before the exams, you can very easily get a B at worst. He's interesting, has some good stories, test questions come right from notes.
i rated this professor bad month1/2 ago but on second thoughts i shouldnt be so harsh, frankly i was quite disappointed with my grade, but he is a NICE man,a great person to talk to.I transferred from a different country, was disappointed with my marks and he was nice enf to take time off his schedule and advise me, he is a gem of a prof, devoted toMET
Professor Arnesan is on the best professors at this college. He is the only professor at Rutgers that I've come in contact with who knows what he's talking about and explains thoroughly what he is trying to teach. He is incredibly intelligent and pretty cute for his age. He's a diamond in the ruff!
The exams are hard. I found it's easy to cheat, if you have a baseball cap on. The man is kind of awkward. This is not an easy class.
He's a really good teacher. As long as you go to class, take good notes, and study for awhile before exams you'll be fine.Everything he says in class is in the textbook, and the textbook explains things real well. But u still have to go to class b/c every once in awhile lectures will cover something not in the bk. This class was an easy A.
I had him for both meteorolgy and climatology. To do well in his class, go to class and take notes. It's so easy to skip but you'll be lost unless you can get the notes. No out of class work, grade based on 3 exams, and one final.
class was ridiculous. he tells class that book "is not essential" yet uses a good amount of information from it. The classes overall semester grade was a low C..did not give any curve. on top of everything he doesn't give enough time to take notes... do not take this class unless it is a necessity...by far worst class ive yet to take
He goes way to fast for anyone to take notes and if you ask him to slow down a bit, he acts cocky about it with his little laser pen. Def dont take this class he doesnt even give an extra credit what so ever.
The class is redic easy and the tests are mostly common sense. Just go to class and u shouldnt have any problems. If you find this class hard, it's you, not Arnesen. He's by far one of the best teacher's I've ever had and very fair with grades. There's no homework and only 2 multiple choice tests.
Very friendly guy. He tells goes over all the notes, and tells you exactly what you'll need to understand for the exams. He goes over the exams afterwards to make sure everyone understands. Great class. Highly recommended. (Much better than Chem if you can replace it with this class.)
Exam's this Friday, I'm not used to studying a lot so if I want to study for an hour only what should I focus on??
In meteorology, if you want to learn, go to class, take notes, take straightforward exams.
The subject isn't so hard, most of it is common sense. I didn't do very well cos I didn't study. Should be an easy A or B+ if you go to class, take notes, and review everything before the exam. And he's pretty fun too!
This man is great!
should be an easy A if you come to lectures, take notes, and go over it for exams. He makes the course interesting too, I'd recommend this course to anyone who can have this as an elective
Go to class, Get notes, study, pay attention in class, Get good grade. As easy as your effort level because he can teach and makes it simple in class. Know the big picture. know the details and funky facts for the exams
Attendance is not mandatory but I found lectures really helpful. Take notes while in class cos the exams would be mostly on those. This is a very interesting class, I would recommend it to anyone who can take this as an elective. It should be an easy A if you spend a decent amount of time studying for the exams.
Easy A. Just go to class and take notes. Exams are straight out of notes. I haven't opened the book once. There's no out of class work.
Arnesen is the man. He knows how to teach correctly which means he doesn't spoon feed you facts but rather makes you intergrate facts in a very real-world manner. Easy A if you put a little effort in.
I don't know how these people like him. He's such a jerk and is not caring or helpful. Doesn't post his slides because they are "copyrighted". He thinks he's funny but he isn't. Goes too fast in class to copy. Worst class I've ever taken.
How does anyone like him? He's a boring old guy that obviously doesn't like his job. He's horribly corny when he makes jokes and whenever someone asks him questions he answers it in the most cocky way he possibly can. Do not take this class.
Pretty easy class. 3 exams and a final. Don't have to go to lectures but I would recommend it since a lot of exam questions are from the notes. As a professor he's very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material. Every class there is a map discussion where you can just sit back and look at weather maps. Shows videos sometimes too.
the class was NOT what i expected. all we learned about is atmospheric heating and cooling and how clouds are formed and boring stuff like that. not that hard of a class though, the exams get easier as the class goes on. the final was unbelievably easy as well.
He's extremly boring and his joke are the complete opposite of funny. However, you don't need to attend classes, but be aware that many of his tests focus on small details (you need to read the textbook).
Class is kind of tough. Went to some lectures and read the book. Bought notes at First Class Notes which def helped alot. Ended up getting an A!
I took two meteorology classes with Prof Arnesen, both of which were enjoyable and taught me a great deal. He clearly cares about the subject and makes a point to relate matterial to the day to day weather events.
Cool guy. He can explain the weather in a way that anyone can understand. Very good at relating it to local events to make it easier to get. Plus, all his forecasts have been dead on.
i like this class a lot but its cuz im interested in meteorology... i cud see how this class cud be boring to people who arent that into it... but its still an easy class nonetheless jus read the chapters and ull do fine
I HATE THIS CLASS. it was not an easy A for me at all. i went to most of the classes and studied for the exams, and my grades on the exams have been getting worse and worse. it's really frustrating to me- if you're just taking this class to fulfill a requirement, i recommend taking planet earth instead. this is def gonna bring down my gpa :(
Great teacher, actually explains the material rather than just blowing through it. Easy A if you go to class and study a little bit the nights before the exams.
He goes almost directly from the textbook, and if you read the book/take notes, your grade will reflect that. Go to class the two sessions leading up to the class, because he will give you details on how deep into certain chapters the exams go. READ THE BOOK!
Okay at first, I hated this man with a passion. He told jokes that were not funny and constantly talked about Nebraska. But in the end, he grew on me. I only pulled a C+ in this class and let me tell you I studied. I would only take this if you have an interest in Meteorology. Dont just take to fill requirements!
Great Teacher. Easy A. Was pretty through in explaining everything, except for a few little points (not talking about the importance of the wall cloud in tornado development and then having 2 questions on the exam about it-not a big deal though) Barely read my book, studied a tiny bit before the exams. Helps if your interested in the weather.
Professor Arnesen is a wonderful professor. The class is easy and if you go to class and take notes and make an effort it is an easy A, or at least a B. He tries to liven up the class with a few jokes. For people complaining about only learning about thermal energy, etc - it's an atmospheric science class. What were you expecting? I'd recommend it.
Very good class and professor. Just take notes off his powerpoints in class and you should do fine. Book isn't really necessary but it helped to touch up on the material by skimming the book before an exam. Arneson was the man! Very fair teacher and a very fair course load.
He is horrible!!! I don't know what these people are talking about. His test are impossible and he is unresponsive to those who truly want help. This man needs to realize he's a teacher and that means to teach children so that they can learn. Its unfair for those who go to class to get treated with such disrespect. DO NOT TAKE HIM
HE is a horrible teacher. When talking about the marerial he makes it boring even for meteorology majors. His exam are medium difficulty he makes them all multiple choice but he doesn't care if a students has a consern about the material. Rude to students!!
its either u get it or u dont, he talks like a typical meteorologist very dull and dry, mono-toned so the lectures are pretty damn boring n he gets mad when people dont attend but its w.e attendance isnt mandatory, exams arent THAT bad but they arent easy either, def. gotta read the material and the info he gives on the slides, understand concepts
Great guy, gives tricky tests but a good professor
Arneson is a boring professor but he is a decent teacher. If you like to read and dont like class take this class. If you read the textbook and really get it from it than your bound to get a good grade. Going to class can help but its pretty much all covered in the text. its a pretty good class and you learn alot of cool things about the weather!
Very fair grading and an expert in his field. No surprises on the tests and you could get a good grade if you studied the material. An A or a B was very attainable. Good courses to take if you needed to fulfill science requirements for your degree. Still remember most of the stuff as I watch the weather each day.
He's very straight forward, most of it you can learn from the book. His tests are very fair, not really hard or easy.
He may be a little boring but if you actually put some effort into it and go to class you can easily pull off a B. Definitely only take the class if you have an interest in meteorology. Personally it is my major so I honestly enjoyed the class. If he goes to fast it?s likely more people missed it to so just ask.P.S. Take a nap if he show's a movie.
Quasi BORING. and he's really not an expert in his own field. lots of student asks questions that he has no idea how to answer. it's semi embarrassing. just read the chps a couple times before the exam and get the lecture notes from studyblue.com
Not a horrible class. Most of his exam questions come from his notes, which he does NOT upload online so for that you should go to class. However if you just read the book you'll be alright too. Some of his exam questions are tricky and seem to come from nowhere. Videos = nap time.
Three exams, class averages were 72, 72, and 76. Supposed to be an easy class, but no matter how hard you work it's not. He's not very friendly either. And he's ok with having half the class failing. Waste of time.
His lectures were straightforward. He does sometimes go a bit fast. Office hours were okay but nothing great. If you dont understand the material a little before office hours are no help. His grading was fair but exams sometimes were tricky. Overall, I got a B with minimal effort and fulfilled my science requirement!
Bad class. Really boring and he always uses pp slides. It's hard to prepare for his exams and sometimes questions are out of no where. Didn't like it, especially when he called his class lazy multiple times. Wish I didn't take it.
Decent class. Not too hard, but you need to study if you want good grades. Only things graded are 3 exams and a final. If you take notes of his powerpoints and come to class, a B should be aeasy to attain. It's a class about the weather, c'mon. I got a C becuase I broke my foot and missed about 5 weekds of classes and didnt feel like cathcing up.
I am a meteorology major so i found this class to be pretty easy to begin with. He did go very quickly over his notes (quicker than elements of meteorology), but his tests were straightforward and fair.
Great professor, kept the class interesting. Showed good films in class. Attendance is not mandatory. Readings are pretty interesting. Exams are fair.
Great class, very interesting material. GO TO CLASS! You need notes from class to do well. He shows some interesting videos and shares personal weather related stories. You can tell he has a passion for meteorology. Take it! Fun elective =)
Pretty good professor. One of those old-school strict all-business guys. Doesn't take crap from anybody, called out a class clown once for laughing at something during lecture. 4 exams, first 3 exams not easy. Final easy. Definitely need to study 4hr per exam. Doesn't put slides online. Must showup to class for notes. Recommended if you put work in
Definitely not a bad guy, there to help you when you need him usually more so during his office hours. Uses powerpoints and videos to supplement his lectures which can get boring but also follows from the book closely, so be sure read the chapters for the exam! Only 3 exams plus the final constitute your grade, but they're multiple choice and easy.
this professor sucks,he goes through his powerpoints way too quickly, and does not put them online. He asks the hardest questions on the exam and the only way to get a decent grade is to memorize the book. Boring, snotty, hard for no reason don't take.
didn't use the book once for this class, just go to class and take notes for every powerpoint caue that is where he gets all of his questions from. not an easy A but if you like weather it may be interesting to you. goes over each exam after you take it which helps for the final
Just pay attention and study night before. Really easy. Super crystal clear like beyond belief. Can be condescending though. Actually often but otherwise good professor
If you dont love meteorology you will be bored out of your mind and do poorly on tests. If its a personal interest you will like his stories, map discussions, and do well.
Long winded and boring. DO NOT TAKE for a science requirement. He does not care about his students. He offers no extra help and is sarcastic/rude when answering questions. If you are struggling he will not offer extra credit. NO way to boost grades. His class is not curved and our class averages were around the high 60's. He blamed the students.
One of the easiest classes that I have taken. The prof knows his material & adds some funny personal stories related to it. Grades are based on multiple choice exams only; there are no problem sets. Maybe he is right that many of the students are lazy. Extra credit? Why should he have to do extra work to grade EC if we haven't done our work?
Very good professor. Also a great person.
show up, read the textbook, read the key terms and look over the questions and you'll be set. Can be a dry class if not into it. Go over textbook and notes and you'll be fine. Don't expect an A because the class "seems easy". There's more to meteorology than just looking at the weather forecast.
I enjoyed the class. He doesn't believe in grade inflation. He's one of those old-schoolers. Grade based entirely on 4 multiple choice exams, but with 100+ students in the class & no TA or grader, this makes sense. I reviewed notes or read the text several times per week, but I was paying to learn - not for an easy A.
I am a meteorology major so I enjoyed the class. Arnesen really knows his material but he goes through the power point slides way too fast. I'd advise typing your notes. Just study the notes and read the pages that he suggests in the syllabus and you'll be fine.
Classes are long and rich in meteorological information. Keith tries to incorporate stories that don't always help students make connections. Exams (4 throughout semester) are semihard to study for. Lots of information covered and exam questions tend to be 75% straightforward and 25% trick questions. Shows outdated films occasionally. Easy SAS core
Class is very boring and takes about 15 minutes on one very simple slide. He moves slow because there is not much material to cover. Shows videos that are irrelevant to the exam. You come in not knowing what to expect on the exam because he never hands out any material. He is not very helpful either.
Took his class previously, went fairly well; he was understanding, approachable. Took him again, all had changed. He gave less time for note-takers. When approached, he insults your note-taking skills. Refuses to put his notes online bc 'students won't come to class', yet he does nothing BUT than repeat same notes in class. Just disrespectful now.
This is one of the rudest professors i have ever met. His attitude is disgusting. I am a meteorology major and i absolutely hate his class. For meteorology he was a better professor and cared about his students, but for climatology he is horrible. He goes 100 miles per hour in his notes, and tells paper thy cant be in college if they cant catch up
Really enjoyed his class. Need to go to class to take notes because notes aren't online. But going to class isn't that bad because the material is so interesting! I'm a psych major and he was able to interest me in this. Tests aren't too easy but as long as you go to class and take notes and read you'll do fine! 3 exams and the final. Take him!!
His tests aren't easy for those students who are not majoring in the course material. He doesn't believe in extra credit and does not curve his class. Our class had the worst average on exam #2 (hardest one) & he blamed it on the students. His exams are not meant to get an A in unless you are an expert in this subject. Don't take for science credit
notes arent online. must go to class. should read the book to study for exam. 4 exams, all averaged in the end, no curve. kind of boring, just go to class to take notes and listen. nice guy, will answer questions if youre not goofing off in class all the time. exam 2 is said to be the hardest. just pay attention and read and youll be ok.
I'm a Bio major, but always found meteorology to be very interesting so I took this class just as an elective. Terrible idea. His exams are tough (2nd one the most) he flies through the slides so you have to rush to copy everything down, if you don't read the book you wont pass. Not approachable, not meant for those who are not meteorology majors.
If you are looking for natural science class, this is not the one to take. Only take this if you are serious on becoming a meteorology major. He doesn't post slides and are outdated. Must understand material as well as him. Make sure you know the captions on the pictures in the textbook. Tests you on stuff he doesn't go over. Save yourself.
The material you are tested on mostly will not be covered in his lectures, which are not very informative and focus on only a few subjects that you are expected to know and none of his slides go in depth, you will have to know every single word of the assigned chapters if you want to pass. I would not recommend taking his classes
He is a terrible professor. The only grades are the 4 exams. All of the questions on the exams are really hard and are not in his lectures. He gives absolutely no help. I was .5 points away from a C and he would not round it up. I emailed him and he blatantly ignored it. I would not suggest taking his class.
4 multpile choice exams make up your grade with no curve all of which include many questions meant to trick you. His lectures are very boring and are useless for the exam; the only way to study is by reading the book which still gets you only so far. Don't take this class thinking its easy, there's a lot of information and exams are tough
