Keith Berry is a great Prof. I took both History 101 and 201 with him. He specializes in African-American History, and taught me much I did not know. A truly great Prof. He also teaches summers, try to catch him then.
Very good professor as well as a great person. I have him currently for Modern American History. He is very enthusiastic about everything he teaches and makes the class fun.
Im currently taking him and he is one of the best teachers ive ever had. He makes his classes fun and interesting. Worth taking his class if you need Modern American History.

This history professor speaks loud and clear, which keeps students awake and listening. Very nice guy :-O Test are a little hard.
This professor needs improvement
Fair professor
I took his class last semister and i discovered i retained a lot of information which proved to be helpful this semister. We had great convos on NY vs. the south. (NY Rocks!) He's a great teacher. If you listen to him you will learn a lot!
Im really not a history person. As a matter of fact, I hate it. But i love his class. Hes very informative and i always take notes. Hes a great teacher. I would definitely take another history class of his. And he really knows what hes talking about.
Sorry but not everyone wants to know everything about black history. This was supposed to be a history class not africian american studies.
the class is ok, he talks too much about black history. smart guy and knows what he os talking about. the 3 tests are kind of hard and you have to read a book then do a book review. you can just say you red the book and he will never know. its an honor system. tkae someone lese if you can.
Mr.Berry is an awesome Teacher never have enjoyed history classes but he made it interesting. Covers all of our history clearly and he knows what he is talking about I would definitely take him again
Mr. Berry is a great teacher. I never liked History, but his classes are interesting. ONLY take this class if you are a good note taker. He speaks loud and clear, easy to understand. He is patient and will repeat facts repeatedly until he is sure everyone understands. Im taking him next semester!
Prof. Berry's thoroughness is a refreshing change from the mundane textbook approach employed by many other professors. This might be lost on some students looking for the plain vanilla Washington-never-told-no-lies approach to which they became accustomed in high school. -NM
Professor Berry is always professionally dressed and pleasant. The range of his knowledge is mind-boggling. I have learned so much more about history than before. It has been very refreshing to be taught a thorough account of U.S. history instead of the white-washed version I learned in high school.
Mr. Berry is the best teacher I have ever had.
This guy is too smart for his own good. He is very full of himself and tests on his notes that he can't even finish because he is at least 10 to 15 minutes late everyday. The book you have to read is EXTREAMLY boring I recomend another teacher for this class or just take a black history course.
hes a great guy, knows his stuff and knows how to put it in lamen comm.college terms. all tests are over notes given in class lectures which can get boring if your not interested. u can go to his office anytime to get notes u missed when skipping class or just to talk. tough tests but take good note
he's ok, i dont see why people think he was so great. he knows his stuff but isnt clear when it comes to the tests. wasnt my favorite teacher and if you can, take someone else.

Mr. Berry is knowledgeable & very helpful. The only reason for failing his class is if you r lazy. 4 those who think that this class is a black history class it isn't, wouldn't be history w/o blacks, whites or native americans. Get over it. Highly reccommend, just get ur learn on, it stays w/you.
IF YOU GO TO CLASS AND LISTEN....READ THE ASSIGNED BOOK YOU ARE GUARANTEED AT LEAST A B.....I WENT TO CLASS EVERYDAY...DIDNT TAKE ANY NOTES..OKAY IM LYING..I TOOK 2 PAGES OF NOTES THE ENTIRE SEMESTER AND I READ THE BOOK AND I GOT AN A IN MODERN AND EARLY HISTORY WITH THIS GUY...U GOTTA LOVE HIM.I DO
Lectures alot - notes from his lectures are a big part of his class. He can tell some pretty interesting historical stories. I liked him - nice and easy providing you take notes and study.
Mr. Berry is a nice guy. But, I go to class everyday and I read the book. And I can't get anything higher than a B on his tests. They are too complicated. Granted, his test are over notes.. The questions are too complicated and unclear when referred back to hand written notes. Take someone else
He gives boring lectures that are hard to follow. Take someone else.
Mr. Berry is a tough teacher, but he was usually clear in what he wanted. If you show up for class and take good notes, then you can do pretty well on the tests. He's always willing to help you out any time you need it! good teacher!
He is really awesome and made history interesting, but the tests were bad! I came to every class and took great notes and still didnt pass. He offers one on one help so PLEASE take advantage of it cuz you will need it! GL to anyone who takes him!
He is very knowledgeable and extremely passionate about History. He provides a uniquely refreshing perspective on conventional American History. I wouldn't say he's tough I would call his class challenging. It's definitely not for those who don't like to work. I promise this is a teacher you wil
LOTS OF NOTES! Lectures Lectures Lectures, if you hate lectures like me dont take this class. It was hard for me to follow a long in class because I hate someone preaching to me for 1.5 hours. He knew his stuff however. Your gradewill depend on all tests, no homework given here
if you try to enjoy your classes you take and actually want to go....then this is not the answer. i dreaded going to this class, it really puts the foundation of history is BORING into perspective. The tests are terrible, name and dates and places, this guy likes the sound of his own voice.oh yea,try not to speak your opinion,he doesn like that
the guy knew what he was talking about. very passionate about the subject. but i tried so hard. notes, tape recorder, etc. still got a D. the test were so hard!
GREAT TEACHER!!! HE KNOWS HIS****! There are a lot of notes. Walk in, sit down, right notes, 1 1/2 later leave with four pages (back and front) of notes...get A's on test. Simple.
His class is very imformative but if you dont keep detailed lecture notes dont bother thinking you can past his tests. He's willing to help you but his class is extreamly hard. If you have time to read the book throughly take his class. If not, dont waste your time. I recommend taking Prof. Greg Miller.
fair. He seemed to almost take it personel when he found out a lot of students didn't read the reading assignment. I didn't and still got a C.
I loved his class. I liked his class so much I took him for both of my history credits. very interesting and challenging.
Wonderful teacher but he gives really hard tests. You have to take EXTREMELY good notes and STUDY STUDY STUDY!!! Also, you HAVE to read the book..i took very good notes but didn't read the book and I got a D. Good luck!
Just take good notes and read the book he assigns... then ur in like Flinn. I loved this class and can't wait to take another one with him.
Just take good notes like a story and u will do good, and act like u read the book, but u dont have to read it.
GOOOD!

I found Professor Berry to be tremendously informative. I am still reading a book he recommended to me: "Lies My Teacher Told Me" I am also sad to say i still have not read the autobiography of Jefferson though...
This professor found it more useful to debate topics such as smoking and the confederate flag, then the material for a test. And no the flag is not a **** logo, it is a mere arifact to represent the south. If the south is so bad, then why would you live in the south?
This professor is one the best at HCC. He is very informative, engaging and open minded. He discusses history and relates it to modern topics that affect us as students and Americans. He is genuinely interested in bettering his students education and academic careers. He is inspiring as an academic scholar and as a professor.
Nice guy, a lot of information for a 3 credit class
he is the worst teacher that i have ever had in my life..i totally regret ever taking his class..DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES
Mr. Berry is a very good teacher. He is clear, precise, and is more than willing to help. His stories keep the class awake, and he gives good life lessons tied into the history. If you are serious about learning, then this teacher is for you.
Dr. Berry is brilliant. I have never really liked history classes, but learned so much from him that I actually feel EDUCATED! You have to show up to class and take notes, but there is never anything on the tests that has not been discussed. He will even repeat a sentence 10 times to make sure you get the important things down. Take his classes!
Simply the best history teacher at HCC. All you have to do is take notes and listen. No final paper or big essays. Very smart man ties in history with modern examples. All the negative comments must come from lazy students. Must Take!!!
OH LORD where do I begin? Got a "B" in the class. Have to agree that he likes to play games with his test questions. The book on Washington was a MAJOR snore that we DIDN'T discuss. 90 minute lecture on honesty and our word. Can the adults who READ the book please be excused? OY. Take notes and you will pass this class...simple as that.
He is not a good professor. He teaches history from a "black mans point of view." Also he discriminates against people....i have personally experienced this from him!
Mr. B Is So Funny. I Loved His Class. You Wont Need A Book BC Everything Is Off Of His Notes. But Make Sure Your At Each Class To Take Them. As Long As You Study Your Notes And Are There For The Test Reviews You Will Pass!
Great teacher, very interesting instructor. Textbook not required but showing up to class and taking notes is. Tests are easy, with about 15 true or false which can be tricky but they're only 1 point each. PEOPLE THAT COMPLAIN ARE JUST FLAT OUT LAZY. Overall I would recommend him to anyone.
i really enjoyed his lectures. Dr. Berry made history interesting BUT his test were HORRIBLE!!! I am a straight A student and got C's on his test. I attended every class and studied often, so this is not due to laziness unless it is direct toward Dr. Berry. I do not recommend him EVER!
Great teacher. I took him twice and both times very good. He made me become interested in in past. If i could ake him again I would. He's easy to talk to and if you need extra help, he'll help you.
He is not a bad teacher and is pretty entertaining but his cirriculum leaves little room for error. You have to do good from day one.
He is a great teacher, very smart and insightful. Easy, laid back kind of guy. Show up to class and take notes and you'll be fine. I dont know how students fail his test because there easy all you have to do is read your notes! Take this professor he is great!
Great teacher. I took him for both AMH 1010 and AMH 1020. Dr. Berry make U.S. history interesting and insightful. I recommend this class to all. Take good notes and show up to class and you will a good grade. Dr. Berry has a passion for teaching and is very helpful.
Mr. Berry was very funny and his students can tell he has a passion for teaching. He really loves American History and likes to make you think outside the box when it comes to the Fathers of this country. Textbook not required.
Do not take his class. There are three tests and a book talk and that is it. He was not helpful to me at all and I had to end up dropping the class because it was way too stressful.
Dr. Berry's class is not easy. If you do not do well on the first test, then drop the class because it doesn't get easier. Write down every word he says because it could be on the test. Reviews are vague and not very helpful.Never touched the book.
Great professor! Very clear and excited about his subject. Made me love the founding fathers. Three tests all based on lecture notes. One book to read with a discussion! Loved his class I took him for modern american history as well. Would take more if he taught more!
He is a nice and interesting professor. No homework, just note taking. He tends to get side-tracted, so he doesn't teach to the sylabus. His tests are pretty hard; which makes getting an "A" an improbable feat. If you want to slip by to attain the "credits" and not worrying about gpa, he's your guy, but if you want a better grade, take Dr. Ball.
Dr. Berry is extremely passionate about what he is teaching. He does go off on tangents, but they are well worth it. I am not someone that was ever interested in History, but gives you the info that you don't find in the textbooks to make it interesting. I will take another class with him regardless of my grade.
Though attended is needed to pass this class Dr.Berry knows his stuff. Very good teacher and tests are all multiple choice. If you pay attention and take good notes class is not that difficult.
Do not take this class if you are not interested in history AT ALL..... He is a good teacher, but he tells many stories and gets side tracked majority of the time
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY. he is the worst prof. in hcc. i dont know why these ppl are giving him good rateings, he is so bad at teaching, he knows his stuff, but he needs to learn a new way to teach.
HE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER. Nothing he talks about is in the book and he is really rude. His tests are hard because everything he rambles about is nonsense. Do not ever take this class. He is very rude as well. donnnnnnn't dooooooooo itttttt!!!!
Berry is one of my all time favorite Professors! The class is straight forward and simple. Come to class, take good notes, recorde lectures can't hurt, READ book assigned and you will earn an easy A+! All the test material comes from his lecture, dont buy the book. You dont have to write any papers! Your notes meet the Gordon rule requirement.
Dr.Berry is one of the greatest history professors of all time. He takes the old boring history and creates them into outstanding, interesting stories that have you paying attention to them until its time to leave. He makes it aware that knowing our history will help us better understand our present and future. Excellent teacher! I recommend him!
i did not like this class at all. all he does is talk, no powerpoints or any notes from him. if you dont write dwn every word that comes out of his mouth you will fail. such a boring class.
awful teacher. no notes except the names of who hes talkin about on the board. he ramobles ALOT about random things you do not need to know, including hispersonal life. he does not take any precautions on sensitive subjects and if you cannot give all of your time to this class he gets angry. i used to excel in history...
I took him for modern AMH and loved him so i came back for early AMH. Best teacher ive had at hcc. Personable, Funny, Helpful. Great to talk to about anything b/c he can bring up a point and time in history to relate it and make it interesting. IF I COULD TAKE HIM FOR EVERY SUBJECT I WOULD!!!
The people who are saying they like him probably already know a lot about history. It is impossible to get a good grade. I studied for this class more than i have ever studied for any other class and still could not manage to get over a low C on the tests.
I love this man, I was living at his house like an international guest student and everything was so funny, he knows how to make fun but I should say you have to love the rules. I talking about his characteristic little big, maybe it can help you to choose his classes.
I took this teacher bc of the ratemyprofessor comments. and i regret it. EVERYDAY is the same. so many words on the baord, then he stands up front and talks the whole hour and 15 mins. this class is so boring and its impossible to get a good grade. he is a nice guy but i would recommend someone else.
I am a straight A student and had to drop the class! he gives 100 question tests. and only 3 but my notes for the first test was 18 pages long! he lectures so much! and he doesnt even give you all of the notes on the test. it is so boring i do NOT recommend him. i got an F on the test and studied all night! i had to withdraw. do NOT take!!!
Good funny teacher, he knows alot about history and is very knowledgeable, his lectures are interesting and he always gives interesting bits of information, sometimes i forger totake notes because im too caughtup listening to him. Tests are hard and long if you know alot of history or are really good at memorizing than this class is easy.
His tests are pretty hard and worth over 93% of your grade. During lectures, he often gets sidetracked and tells unimportant and irrelevant stories. We never get to all the names he writes on the board. He ends every class with "Ladies and gentlemen, please have a safe and smoke free afternoon." Don't bother buying the textbook, it's never used
Took him last semester.. Class seems easy bc he always gets off topic and rambles forever. What you are suppose to take notes on is NOT clear what so ever and thats what you are to study for his ridiculous tests. I wouldnt recommend him to anyone unless they have prior knowledge of the class.
This is an interesting class. Dr. Berry is a great teacher. Go to class and READ THE BOOK and this class is easy.
Dr. Berry is very funny and friendly. Does get off topic but i like it because its not all lecture. Test are fine if you study. The highest score for the first test was 92. I would recommend him.
Dr. Berry is very funny and friendly. Does get off topic but i like it because its not all lecture. Test are fine if you study. The highest score for the first test was 92. I would recommend him. Don't buy the textbook, but read the book.
Great teacher. If you wanna learn about real history. His test are easy if you study.
his tests are hard..your gunna have to study for dayyyyyyysssssssssss to get an A... its impossible.attendance is necessary.be there to every class and the tests are on the notes only, hardly use the textbook
Great teacher! Has lots of interesting stories and ways of helping you relate to present day. He is also very helpful to make sure you understand material by reviewing notes. Attendance isn't mandatory but it'll make it much easier for making a good grade. I'm taking his 1020 class for modern history as well in Spring2010
This class was a disappointment. I am a straight A student and worked very hard in Berry's class, but left the class frustrated after each test and many of the lectures. He rambles more than he teaches. He seems like a nice enough guy, but on the tests, there are ALWAYS 10-12 questions that he never lectured about. I don't recommend him.
One of the best teachers I've had in all my studying. Knowledgable, Passionate, and great sense of humor! Some of his lectures truley touched me and made me think about my personal life in comparison. Take notes of everything and read your book and you will pass no prob! FLASH CARDS ARE HELPFUL!!Wish I could have taken him more than 2x's.
He is very interesting! I'm never bored in class and he keeps your attention very well! I loved history before and I love it even more now. I wish I would have taken his class for early American History.
AWWEEEFFULL teacher! Gets way off subject! He only gives three tests and you read one book. The tests are very hard and the book put me to sleep. I knew more about his personal life then I did the subjects. Do not take this teacher if you want to learn and do well.
HE is a GREAT teacher, his class is very easy, Just take notes every day and you will pass, one essay and 3 tests no HW and ppl who say he talks to fast are BS b/c he repeats everything. His stories are soo interesting and he has a very great love for History
Here's the thing. He's a great teacher that cares about what he's teaching. Even though we had a student who annoyed everyong, Berry was patient and repeated himself for clarification. I was a bit dissapointed in never really discussing the book, but that was the fault of the other students not reading. See ya in the faill, bless his heart.
3 grades all semester and you're expected to pass? I'd recommend taking Dr. Ball because you're destined for failure with Dr. Berry
I was always bored with history, but Dr. Berry was sooo knowledgable and such a great lecturer that I wish I could still take day classes so I could take all of the ones he teaches. You have to be there to take notes, but who would want to miss out!!!
Dr. Berry is great! I took his Early American History class, and I'm now taking his Modern History Class. If you're slacker, you will not do well. However, if you take notes, and study the notes for the tests, you will do very well. Dr. Berry is very passionate and knowledgeable about History. His lectures are always interesting.
Dr. Berry is a pretty easy class if you attend and take notes. Tests come from notes only and you never really have to read the textbook. Lectures are interesting even if he rambles sometimes but that just makes the class even better. Definitely recommend.
I Think he was a good teacher. as long as you go to class and take notes you will do great on the test:)
This dude is a great teacher. His class is super simple as long as you take notes and go to class. His country slang is on point too. Some lectures can be boring and slow if he gets off topic but usually he covers most of the terms for the day. Overall good history teacher. Take him!
Great class! Dr. Berry is great at his job. Note: you must attend class to pass this class.
He's a nice guy. His class is just him talking the whole time and you writing notes. He doesn't have any handouts and he barely uses the board, just to write key terms. His tests are also a little difficult. I got an A but it wasn't easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss a day a class, you miss a lot of notes.
I took his class for Modern American History and i can really say Dr.Berry is the man! He is an awesome professor that combines the old stuff with all the current stuff going on today. He gives awesome lectures and repeats anything you don't understand. If you study your notes, you're destined for an A. Totally recommend this guy
DR.Berry is an awesome professor. The text book is not needed to pass, he gives very good notes, that you can understand easily and bases the test on the notes. If you keep track of the notes he gives and pay attention the class is an easy A.:)
*Spent too long on Civil War and cut 20th cent. short, tested on it anyway! Since it's lecture based, no way of knowing content!* Great lecturer, very interesting. No book needed, attendance isn't mandatory. If you miss class then be sure and get good notes from someone! Take notes, study, and pay attention, you'll pass. IF HE LECTURES ON ALL TOPICS
THIS GUY IS AMAZING! If you are a real history buff, take it! Attendance is counted and gives 3 extra credit points if you don't miss more than 3 days. An essay is only required on one test. Don't really need the textbook, but a supplemental reading is required (25 points!). Kinda rambles a bit, but they're interesting topics. Dr. Berry= awesome!
He's a nice dude, but, his tests are murder. he'll lecture for at least a month then drop a fairly large test on you. I normally do really well with history but it's hard to know what he thinks is important/will be on the test, as a result it's hard to be prepared for the tests.
He's pretty self centered and talks about a bunch of stuff that relates to himself. I felt like I was in African American history class most of the time. He could careless about you or your grades. Hard to prepare for tests and takes weeks to grade them. Makes you read a book that's about black discrimination in his hometown.
Took this class fall 2013, DOES NOT USE the book and gives tests with questions not covered. He often gets off topic and talks about himself too much and what he has done. Only way you will pass is if you get lucky
Awesome Prof. His lectures were so interesting, provided new ways of understanding historical fact vs. hist fiction. Best prof of my college career
I have never had a teacher like Dr. Berry before, he makes the class VERY interesting. I don't want to miss even one. Which is good because you get extra points at the end if you don't miss more than 3. He is very personable, open to you coming to his office after hours, etc. He doesn't want you to fail. Berry gives real life advice as well :)
VERY lecture-intensive. Class is not mandatory, but necessary. Just take notes, study them, and you'll do fine. You have to read one book that's painfully boring, but it's short. Tests are multiple-choice and sometimes have an essay. Very interesting, knowledgeable, and funny teacher. Very approachable. I would definitely take him again.
TERRIBLE! does not use blackboard. 3 tests over SO much material and a 25 point 300 page book reading . Told class after final do not e mail him about anything. And that if we had problems with grade find him in the fall.
This is not a difficult class . I received a C. ONLY because I missed class a lot due to being lazy. He covers everything on test. Had a D going into final exam but I STUDIED so my grade ended as a C. He is willing to help anytime.
Do not take this class. Only 3 tests the whole semester over too much material. The whole class is a lecture. It is hard to pay attention because of how boring he makes the class. He admits that the class is boring. If this class had power points and outlines of the test I feel that more people would pass.
Reading some of these comments made me chuckle out loud. I find Dr. Berry's class a joy to be in, his lectures are interesting and he's highly knowledgeable! He is ALWAYS willing to help out students. He makes this crystal clear, his availability. I passed his class with a B, as long as you come to class and write his lecture notes, you'll pass.
I really enjoyed his class ! His lectures are clear and he makes them understandable. Its important to take notes, its needed to study for the two test he gives. His class is easy in the sense of coming to class and taking notes. He is preparing you for your test. He encourages students to stop by his office hours and to have a smoke free day :)
Great teacher he pretty much gives you the answers for each test, very little written response and easy grader, pass the class with a B, made history very interesting and not just dates VERY great teacher i would recommend him to all students
I LOVE history, love going to his class, but his test are hard. He teaches, you write down what you think is important and then test you. I feel like if he had an outline for his test that would be better ,but hi. He's a great teacher, tells you great information.
I had him for two American history classes and I enjoyed both very much. He is a great teacher and makes the lectures interesting. All the notes you take down will be in the exam just dont miss class. The textbook is NOT a Must, the notes cover all the material.
Very tough class. Got an F
His lectures are interesting, he talks about history in ways you wouldn't hear about in textbooks. He just has an attitude of "i'm better and smarter than you." He just rambles on and on in class so you never know what is going to be on the exams. He goes off on tangents and then says "it may not be on the test, but it will be on the test of life."
I credit this professor for helping me find a passion for history. Yes, I said it. His lectures are amazing, he brings the stories to life. Very intelligent, straightforward and polite. He has a passion for teaching students, pushes you to think and inquire when he asks questions. It's an easy class if you don't miss a class and read your notes.
He is passionate about what he teaches but he is not an easy A . You have to pay attention and write lots of notes, the test come from your notes. He does repeat himself a lot so you always have a chance to write down what you missed before. you can review your notes in his office. only 3 tests no homework except for a reading discussion in class.
He makes the lecture interesting, but not because he is a good teacher. Let me clear myself , is just the dirty part of history that he thinks are relevant to you that he says in class. You never will get an organized class, a logical order class. he jumps back and for all the time which makes difficult for students to take notes plus he speak rea
The information was very vivid. If I were to describe the tests it would be "Johnny has an apple, now calculate the circumference of the sun" kind of questions. To clarify none of the questions involved math, they were all very confusing. Went off on tangents a lot, not a bad thing for someone really into it, but awful if you are tired and hungry.
Tests are from the notes you take during his lectures, textbook is not necessary. Truly has a passion for history. Will lecture all class, every class, and expects you to take notes like you are writing a story, no bullet points, as everything is connected. Learn to take and study notes and you will pass.
