He's an excellent prof. The course is pretty hard, but he keeps the concepts basic, and simple. Watch for his hand gestures when he tries to explain how molecules move. Very entertaining. His cartoons at the start of the class are also good
Very clear and easy to understand. His notes are excellent. Moves quickly but thoroughly through the material. I really enjoyed his class and his cartoons. His hand gestures are hilarious too.
I really really enjoyed the cartoons at the start of class and I totally agree about the arm gestures they are soo funny espically when you're tired or having a bad day.
My favorite prof EVER. He managed to make chemistry interesting, and even sometimes amusing. I was (almost) sad to be done that class.
Very good prof, i hated chemistry but he made the class more then bearable. He's very willing to meet up with you and help you out. He clearly explains concepts and just speak up if you don't understand something b/c its probably not just you
This guy is hilarious! He is one of the most memorable profs ever due to his cartoons and cartoonish personality. He knows his stuff and explains it thoroughly. Very good for repeating material if needed.
my best prof so far. I really like the cartoons
An excellent chemistry professor who gets excited about electron configurations. Deals very well with masses of uptight wannabe med students.
Great prof...very approachable and good at explaining things (using hand motions)...
Unreal prof!!! Definitely sad to be done this class
Always late arriving to class, seems somewhat disorganized at times and can get sidetracked easily. Seems to have difficulty speaking, very mouse like voice, difficult to hear. Not nearly enough direction given for study material.
Monotonic
Awesome prof, teachers you only the most important things and doesn't waste time with crap. Pity the chem student who can't learn from him.
Every Mon.Wed.Fri. I would live for this prof's class at 10:30! It made my day. I ended up failing Chemistry, but man this guy was good! I got a 73% in the lab thanks to him coming in during the labs and helping our class out. Defenitly my favourite!
Notes very clear, easy to follow, easy to study. Helped out with the labs which was awesome b/c it helped connect it to the lecture.Good prof all around, but sit close to the front b/c it's sometimes hard to hear him.
Great prof...thanks for the cartoons each class and the hand motions (gotta love it).
he explains things really well...limiting reagents and cars....that rocked
Really great prof! His ways of teaching are very effective and useful. He is easy to understand and he is a down to earth kind of guy. Highly Recommend!
Could have simplified. hand gestures are distracting. Should take more time to explain. Good prof, just needs to refine his teaching methods
Good, willing to help, a little hard to understand his explainations though
Well, considering it's a common final, and a common midterm, read your damn textbook.
He is a fairly good teacher, but sometimes makes mistakes on the examples in class. just read text book, and his notes(careful not to get distracted by some of his useless notes ie. periodic table with food and desserts)
Really Mellow guy...good teacher. His notes are okay, a bit monotone but nothing that bad. His laid back style and attitude are a great welcome to students.
do what you can to get into this class....trust me he's awesome. Either take him or That Aaron W. dude....there the best ones!
decent guy, at least has his intentions in the right place. the material wasn't hard at all, sometimes has trouble with clarity, just needs to re-adjust how he portrays the information. definately a takeable prof.
Good prof, nice notes, funny, and makes class enjoyable. Very approachable,if you email him and make an appointment, he'll be there! Take his class for chem 112...is is the best that there is!!!
Good guy, very laid back and friendly. Seemed helpful and approachable. Doesn't assign any hand-in homework.. so you have to be able to work on your own. Has a nice set up online, makes his own practice problems and posts the notes. Uses powerpoint but puts the information into big paragraphs which are quite wordy.. difficult to take notes..
He is a good prof, with notes on the internet...so dont try to take notes in class its hard to keep up. He drops chalk on the floor and pretends it didn't fall haha. You need to study for the tests and read your text book.
Worst prof ever! Sure he had his notes before hand and on the internet but he never explained things through to a first year but explained it like you are one of his co-workers. Always began teaching things that you didn't need to know first year but things that you would learn in a second or thrid year class. EX: Organic Chem
good guy, attend class and read the book(make sure you've read the book before the midterm and final, they're almost notes-not-related)and you'll be good.
He is a good prof, explains things step by step and is very clear. I would like to have seeen hand in assignments though.

Brown was fantastic. Chem 112 was an awfully long course that covered a wide range of topics, few of them interconnected. Brown's greatest strength was that he was able to siphon out the information we didn't need to know for the exams.
Notes are directly from text book and he read the notes directly to the class. SO boring. Explains things in a weird way, confusing. Waste of time. Good guy tho. Easy to get a hold of.
You could tell he really liked chem but was really boring. I could not stay awake during his lectures and did just as good or better by reading the lecture notes he put up. Don't think he is the worst but there has to be someone better I would hope.
Terrible! I stayed awake during ONE whole class, it was an amazing feat. He made me hate chemistry, when I used to like it. Mono-toned, boring, doesn't explain things well. If you have to take a chem class, don't take it from him.
Very nice guy, he cut out things you didn't need to know so that your learning-application was maximum for tests. Only problem is he's very boring and monotonous, so takes a lot of willpower to stay awake for his class.
Very mono tone, says um and studdards alot. For ADD people like me, don't go to class, just read the text and you'll be fine. He also skips around in his lectures and takes to much time with the easy stuff at the begining and then flys at the end cause he realizes hes out of time.
really nice guy but class is terribly boring and you can learn just as much at home than in class
I like him, but it's hard to have him first thing in the morning. You can tell he's passionate about Chemistry, but he spent a lot of time going over stuff I'd already learned in high school and not much time on difficult concepts like quantum mechanics. If you pay attention, do the examples along with him, and read the textbook, you'll be fine.
Seemed like a nice guy, obviously really likes chemistry. Classes were a little slow, hard to take at 8:30 in the morning, had a difficult time staying awake. Honestly, I can't think of anything bad to say about the prof, but I found the class really boring in general. I won't be taking anymore chem classes in the near future.
He spent too much time on the history of chemistry and not enough time going over the actual equations and concepts that we needed to learn. I didn't find he did enough examples in class, and he only did easy examples too, not the complicated ones that were on the midterm/final. Nice guy though, and he is definitely passionate about chemistry!.
Really nice guy!! A++ !!
Very good teacher. Knows his stuff and is easy to understand. He is available out of class if you need any clarity on things. He posts all his slides online and follows them exactly during class. The class is a bit boring and you learn alot from the textbook.
I have always disliked chemistry but he made the class interesting. He made the seemingly incomprehensible understandable. If you need to take chemistry, take it with him.
Nice guy however not the best prof in the world. Very boring at times and having him first thing its hard to stay awake. Very verbose makes things more complicated then they are. You can basically teach yourself this course... good for lewis structures.
He is a very nice man, but not the best prof. He puts all of his slides online, and if you read over them you would not need to attend class because he reads them word for word. I would recommend taking this class from a different prof because he makes things more difficult than they need to be which often is confusing.
He's probably the best teacher for first year chem, but I will say it isn't the most stimulating class at 830 in the morning. His notes are pretty amazing and online though. Plus you don't have to fill them in so you can skip class if you're not feeling it.
I liked him thought he was a good prof.
Not the best prof I've ever had, but the worst either. Posted all his notes and podcasts on online, but all he did was read his notes. The class being at 8:30, his mumbling made it hard to pay attention. He tried to make sure everyone understood the material but we fell so far behind. Best bet is just to read the textbook
He was okay. Not the greatest prof, but definitely not the worst. His notes are good to print off and follow along, but all he really does is read through them. He was really good at teaching VSEPR theory and Lewis Dot Structures, but other than that didn't impress me too much. Meh!
He truly wants everyone to do really well in his class, he explains things very thoroughly but sometimes he makes things more complicated by doing so. He video podcasts and puts all his notes online so you don't need to go to class. Don't bother with the textbook, didn't use it at all, there is lots of extra practice elsewhere it's a waste of money
Pretty dry, don't bother showing up at 8:30 you will just fall asleep. He records his lectures and puts all his notes online. Moves through stuff quickly and is helpful after class but the lectures are dull.
His online notes and incorporation of the text into his curriculum make this class very straightforward. The meaning in his notes is clear and if you understand the concepts you will do very well.
He is a good prof. If you ever missed a class there was video of the lectures you could watch. Course was pretty straight forward much like Chem30 so was found easy.
He was clear and fun and happy to answer all my freakin stupid questions.
Keith Brown was great becasue he was so straightforward and clear. I felt really compared for the standard final and came out with not just knowledge but the understanding too. He was a little boring, but that could also be attributed to the 8;30 time slot...
Very clear, helpful, straight-forward, and funny. Posts videos of his lecture online so you don't have to go to an 8:30 AM class. All of the chem exams are 'common exams' so you write the same exam as every other chem 112 class.
Very clear and well organized! His powerpoints are extremely helpful and he makes chemistry interesting.
Very good prof. Clear, organized and on time. His slides are very helpful and he posts them online. Lecture is also video recorded and posted. I found him kind of funny to. Would highly recommend.
A great Prof- he clearly loves what he does, and wants his students to succeed. He is fast at responding to questions and emails, and his lectures are recorded, which is great!
A great professor! He is very thorough and knowledgeable, posts great notes, and covers the test material 100%. He acts like he enjoys what he is doing. His classes are entertaining enough to stay awake at 8:30 a.m. and he does quite a few sample questions. A bit of effort = HIGH mark. If you like chem (or even if you don't) TAKE HIS CLASS!
He was very precise with his material. I found that he went over material too fast for my liking. He preferred to have the equations worked out on the slide instead of doing it systematically on the board. I found that I liked the professor who taught after his class more and started attending that class regularly instead. go with Grovsner if u can
Overall I liked him as a prof. He did go through material a bit quick. He was very helpful outside of class and had lots of practice questions that you could do.
Nice guy, very friendly and tries his best to help students with posting practice midterms and assignments.
Awesome professor. Tests were fair. Extremely helpful when students were struggling. Stayed on schedule, which is important because CHEM 112 final is the same for all students from all sections. Would recommend him.
Lots of good examples, posts lectures
I enjoyed his class! He did an amazing job at making the material interesting and keeping the class engaged!
This Prof is honestly so amazing at his job and he's got a great sense of humour!
Keith Brown was a great prof. He is enthusiastic about chemistry and amazing at explaining it! He breaks confusing matter down very well. I would take his class again.
Super recommend !
he's funny but basically just reads off the slides
Good at teaching although he basically just reads off the slides. The class was overall pretty easy if you went to class, but the textbook helped more than he did. The midterm was easy but the final was definitely tougher.
Pre-midterm material was Chem 30. Post-midterm you learn about Orbitals, Periodic Table, and Lewis-Dot Structures. Exams are departmental so all profs give the same exam. All-in-all easy course if you don't leave everything o the last minute. Textbook was fairly useful, did lots of my learning from that.
Great prof, tries hard to get you into the material. Always had jokes at the beginning of the class, and was always available for questions when you needed help. Overall very helpful and wanted you to do well!
Probably one of the most approachable profs I've had. Funny. Full notes were posted so it was nice to write down what he'd say outside of the notes (if you like to learn that way). I'm brutal at chemistry and found him super helpful and really nice. Textbook helps A LOT.
Nice prof who knows his stuff and teaches it in his own way. Not always the textbook way. Only flaw is that the lectures are a bit dry and he incorporates a fair bit of history.
I thought he was actually funny, with his dry sense of humor. Pros: He knows his stuff, there for you overall good prof. Cons :The class can get a little bit boring at times and his powerpoint slides are not the best.
His lectures were dry and read right from the slides. Added too much history that was not even touched on in the exam. Should have focused on tested material rather then blabbing about non tested material. Would not recommend. Learnt everything from Janice Holmes in the last week of classes. Reading the text front to back is mandatory with Keith.
His lectures were sometimes dry, but he taught concepts clearly. He was also very approachable whenever you needed clarification.
Dr. Brown is a good prof! His lectures are fairly long and boring, but pay attention and you will do well in the class. He uses lots of examples, which is so helpful and if you don't understand he is very approachable.
Explained things clearly and did many experiments. It really shows that he cares about student's understanding of the material with the time he puts into explaining and going over concepts. Would definitely recommend.
He is fairly specific when teaching the material, which is good, but leads to long and boring classes. What is in his lectures are what are on the exams, so you only really need the textbook if you have trouble understanding concepts. Overall, I would definitely recommend him!
Keith likes the background to material, so will spend a lecture or two on non-testable material. He goes through quickly. He is always in the Chem help room and willing to give you an extra hand. I liked him, and he had some funny jokes along the way to keep things upbeat.
Keith Brown is an amazing professor. He does his best to make sure that we understand the material and makes everything simple for the students. Any student, especially if you struggle in chemistry, should try to get into his section.
Had this prof for my first year in term 1. He explained things clearly and made sure everyone understood the concepts before he moved on. He also did demos and got someone to come in and do short experiments sometimes that made the lectures more interesting
Will meet with anyone confused after class, 50% of mark comes from final
Great proff, his lectures can be a bit dry sometimes but he explains concepts well. He is always accesible to answer questions after class and holds tutorials before the midterm and final to go over extra questions (highly reccomend). He clearly loves what he does and it is shown through his enthusiasm over the subject.
Great teacher! He was always willing to answer any questions from the students & holds tutorials before major exams. He posts his notes online in his own website, so I was able to go in his class & just focus on what he had to say to further explain topics. He was great at teaching material I was unfamiliar with like vsepr theory. Highly recommend
Professor Brown's 8:30 classes were a little mundane but ultimately he's passionate about chemistry and teaching. His website had extra problems and I used the textbook for taking notes in class and doing some example problems. Keith is great because he tried to make his lectures interesting and the tests were challenging but not impossible.
You better do the questions in the textbook and take a look at the practice final ahead of time. Study the right material. Challenging course and final exam was long but you could come out with a nice mark if you worked for it right from the beginning. Final included 40 marks of short answer that could be a hit or miss. Lectures not needed.
Keith was quite dry, but this is a very minor complaint, because he taught concepts very clearly. He made things easy to understand, as he's very black and white. I would definitely endure a dry prof such as Keith if it means the actual chemistry is being taught clearly and concisely. Definitely recommend.
Keith teaches the concepts you need to know in a clear manner! Be prepared to study hard for the final!
Does a good job explaining concepts in the lecture, and goes over some examples. You definitely need to study outside of class, and do example problems. He is easy to approach and ask questions of, and it's easier to talk to him outside of lecture. Has a sense of humor
Keith was a good prof overall. He was very quiet and hard to understand sometimes. He was very monotoned at times and I found it hard to pay attention in class. But he makes sure you understand a topic before he moves on, does many examples in class, and easily accessible outside of class.
What an amazing professor. He gave us all the outlets we would need to be successful in this class. We went through the materials very fast, but he did so in a way where I could still understand the materials as well as I could. By the time the end of the semester rolled around, I was very sad to leave this professor.
