excellent professor. expect t o learn a whole lot. take good notes and skim the chapters and you'll be fine
No Comments
Don't be absent and pay attention. Easy A. He always goes over the review before every test. He is not big on attendance but don't be absent if you want an A. Take the evening class, you always leave early.
good teacher
Very good teacher when describing events...very detailed...gives alot of notes but it helps during tests...although its a boring class he tries to make it interesting...A+ for trying
VERY HARD TESTS...SIMPLE QUESTIONS MADE HARD. NO SYMPATHY FOR ANYONE. STUDIED SOOOO HARD AND STILL GOT A C...IM A STRAIGHT A+++++ STUDENT
the tests are hard as hell!!! but try to find someone who took the course before cause he doesnt change the tests
he is very good and easy going just listen in the class you will be fine.
Tests are hard as hell,he's very VERY boring and the class will drag to the very last minute! He is a nice guy though
Difficult tests, montonous lectures unless you enjoy history-Decent grader, not too harsh-But be on time-do not leave early-participate and try ur best on tests and you will do fine- ALso-he gives extra credit assignments---take advantage!
Great professor, straightforward, and tells you everything that will be on the tests. Take advantage of the study guides and extra credit and you have yourself an easy A
Practicaly walks you buy the hand through his class. Goes over everything that is on the test, offers you 2 extra credit assignments, and gives you study guides before the test. What else could you want? Easy A
best professor in bergen, totally easy just pay attention once in a while, he gives you a study sheet with everything that is going to be on the test. just write the essay before hand and memorize it piece of cake.
Had him a while ago. Okay teacher, fair, tests are okay-just study. I had him for 2 seperate classes and thought he was kind of arrogant, not the best at communicating with the students.
some may find his lectures boring but i belive they are very informative. He is patient, friendly, and gives study sheets before each test and also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. I think he makes the best of what some might consider a boring subject. I would definelty recommend him.
holy**** man. lecture lecture lecture lecture HUGE TEST lecture lecture lecture etc. read the entire book and you might do okay. he's a great guy and thats obvious, but his notes are pretty weak, if youre good at copying down countless hours of boring lecture, he's your man.
You will need to open you mind. His lectures are very long...but if u get into them they are really interesting...His tests are sooo long but he gives a study sheet b4 that tellls everything on the test..essay form...very easy..ehh grader..gave me A- when i felt it was an A...Hes is madd cool though
boring lectures but hes a nice guy. take notes and read the text ull be fine. drops the lowest grade with some curves. exam is non cumlutive. wat u got to lose. he sutters alot too.
This guy is a great teacher. If you like history you'll love this class if you hate histry you'll like this class. NO HOMEWORK,PROJECTS,OR REPORTS. Drops lowest test. But efective in his teaching. HIGHLY Reccomended
COOLGUY..KNOWS HIS MATERIAL VERY WELL..HES CLEAR, HELPFUL, AND EASY...TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
cool prof. will def. take him again
Not a teacher i would recommend at all! He has you take lots of note and gives you a study guide and it still doesnt help, the way the questions are on the test make it really hard! He is nice and polite but hard.
True, True...lots of notes, but he's a great guy, will go out of his way 2 help. I failed bcuz of my own stupidity. Take notes, pay attention and ull pass. READ THE TEXT! B prepared 2 take a BUNCH of notes, guaranteed your hands will hurt at the end of class. TESTS R HARD!! STUDY!
wonderful professor
Brilliant professor who makes history interesting and accessible; one of the best teachers at Bergen. Very knowledgable about all periods of history. Actually cares for his students and inspired me to do well. Study sheet helps and he is a fair grader. Will definintely take his geography course.
Prof. Chu is an excellent teacher. You really learn the material. Makes geography as fun as it can be. Map exercises are especially interesting. If you're taking geography, this course rocks!
One of the best professors I've had. He's knowledgeable and knows how to teach! He's very helpful, makes the material extremely interesting, and is a fair grader. You will do well if you attend his classes and take notes. His tests are based on his lectures. I wish more teachers were like him. I highly recommend him.
This professor actually cares about his students if you let him know. He will always help you and his exams are not hard maybe alittle tricky but not that bad. No paper to write and is easy to understand his class.
chu and i clashed. for this reason i really don't remember him, or his course very favorably. nonetheless i have no doubt this man is very intelligent and generally a good guy.
Very interesting class; I didn't know a thing about geography until Professor Chu came along. Very smart man. Knows a lot about everything--language, medicine, art, economics, philosophy, human evolution. Simply a great class and teacher.
This guy is great. He is a great teacher and you'll learn a lot from him. His class is very educational and fun at the same time. An A is a very easy grade to get if you pay attention. Tests are easy and papers are cake, just make sure you read. Don't hesitate to ask him any questions, he'll help you with anything you need!
Mr Chu is a very nice professor. I learned a lot in his geography class. willing to help and answer questions. Very smart guy.
Really great Professor, very smart and he tries to be funny but sometimes he isn't. He is really nice and very easy to get an A in his class. You learn a lot from him.
Had Dr. Chu for West Civ History Honors. He is definitely a very capable teacher and made sure that the students understood the material. However, I felt that he was a bit of a tough grader, but not tough enough to make me dislike the class. Overall, a very good professor.
Mr. Chu is a good professor. His class is easy in that there are only three tests - no homework. He also gives plaenty of extra credit. He is a little tougher on his GEO classes than his HIS classes (I had both with him). He always lets the class out early and leaving early seems more inportant to him than to the students.
Prof. Chu is one of the best teachers at the college. Lectures and discussions are entertaining and informative (sometimes even funny!). He knows a lot about everything and is sympathetic to students. Inspired me to think about majoring in geography.
VERY HELPFUL!if you need help go to him and he'll help you out a lot! His tests arent hard if you like geography. Try not to miss classes, he looks at attendance..
Very very nice man. Generous with grades. Very understanding and helpful.
Prof. Chu is an excellent teacher and a very good speaker. You will definitely learn your history in his class. Tests are generally fair and encourages students to get involved. I especially like his side-note historical stories. Take his class--will keep you interested!
Excellent teacher. Would recomment to anyone. Easy grader and makes class interesting.
excellent professor! makes class fun and interesting !
take his class. very interesting class, keeps u awake. tests are kinda easy, just memorize the terms and read. there is an essay in each test which is very easy. fair prof.
A truly great professor who knows his facts. His tests contain all essay questions. Trust me, its not so bad. Just study and write good two paragraph essays with facts to show that you understand the subject matter and you’ll pass. He gives a lot of notes and there’s an essay assignment due at the end of the semester. I highly recommend his class.
class is a piece of cake you need tos tudy little bit esaays are piece of cake he doenst care about the grades just show him that you undertsand the concept he is the best
this might be the most boring teacher i have ever had. i took his 3 hour geo class and omg. it felt like i sat there all night. everyone looked half asleep every time. hes very smart and nice, he just drones on forever. however he didnt really give much work, the tests were kinda hard, i guessed a lot, didnt pay attention in class and still got a C
Prof. Chu is the man! Lectures are insightful and meaningful. He is very smart and a nice guy, as well. You can tell that he really loves his field of study and tries to pass it on to students. He had a positive reputation from my friends and he did not disappoint. An outstanding professor at Bergen. Take him!
Very good teacher and nice man. Tests are fair to easy.
I took World Geography with Professor Chu. His lectures are interesting and he knows material. I consider his course one of the better ones at the college. I did very little work and got a B+.
Chu is a mad good teacher. Who else could make something like Economic Geography or Buddhism in Tibet actually interesting? Exams are actually are very easy and he's an easy grader. Just go to class, pay attention and you should be able to ace it.
Took him online for His-101, have to say it was an incredibly unpleasant experience. There's a 1 page reflection paper due every week. Two term papers (both citation) 4 pages each. Exams were fill ins + essays (no word bank for fill-in).There are no notes or reviews. Tons of reading from textbook if you want to do well.Too much work for an elective
Loved his class. Jokes are corny, but you will learn a lot of geography. Wrote me a great recommendation as well.
BE PREPARED TO STUDY! this class is tough! i spent more time studying for this calls than i did for physics I. the tests are longggg, and if you don't write a full blue book at the least he will slaughter your grade. tough grader. LOTS AND LOTS OF READING. be prepared to carry the textbook around with you. this class is no walk in the park...
If you do not well in his geography class you should not be in college. He is so nice and very helpful. When he teachs, he tries to be as simple as he can. His test is not easy but it is not hard. He puts alot of extra credit in his test that it is almost impossible to fail his test. : )
Cool guy, just take notes. Tests are really easy since you get 10 or so essay questions the week before and only have to answer 4 of your choice. I'd take him again.
smart professor, he knows to keep class alive...good to the eyes some how
His online class is a complete mess, I would recommend not taking it. It's a fairly straight forward course, but at the rate of how disorganized this professor was it made the semester go by really hard. 8 papers 2-3 pages, 8 multip. choice tests, 8 unit discussions 3 posts per. Professor has incredibly poor communication skills as well. Be aware!
Took history online with prof. Chu; I was worried because it was my first internet course. Easy A--exams are open-book (with massive curve)--I got only half questions correct for most of them, but was considered a high B. Papers are straightfoward. If you do the work, you will get good grade.
great class and professor. highly recommended if you pay attention in class take notes and study you will get a high grade. Tests are easy he will give a study sheet. He's pretty funny too !

BRILLIANT MAN!!!! Wish I could take him for the history classes I need. Had him for geography. So interesting. Very fair grader. So nice and very knowledgable. Someone you can always look to for information. So glad to have been in his class.
Second time taking Chu for a course and he never disappoints. 3 Tests are essays in which you get to choose what you want to answer. Take Him!
K.Chu is one of the professors that I really enjoyed. He was a good teacher and very down to earth. His tests are easy if you read and listen. He is a very nice guy and just does the right things like teach and does not do ridiculous things. I enjoyed his class very much. He may be a bit boring but I would encourage you to take him!
I wouldn't really recommend him. I took world geo and i was interested in learning, but his class is so boring. he makes it boring. the class seems very long. The tests are not very difficult but his study sheet SUCKS. im surprised the comments are good, cuz nobody from my class was happy with him. he's a nice guy, but not a good professor
He is kinda boring, but he can be funny too. he really cares about the class and is very friendly. he does his best to help you out, but like he jumps around in the notes so you get confused sometimes, or atleast i do. i study for ever but never do well on tests, just essays
took an online course - AWFUL-minimal input from prof., 3-4 page paper due every other week plus an exam on line open book but idiotic questions, plus discussion. The amount of work I put in that class was sooo much more than taking it in school-
Prof Chu,How do I describe him? As long as you work hard and participate in his class you will do well. I am not a great test taker. However, he is very aware of that, and gives chances of other work to higher your grade.
Hands down the best professor ever. Rewarding honors class. He is also a nice guy too.
This Prof. is clear on what is expected and does all he can to let you know what will be on the tests. He basically repeats what is in the book with a few more details. Read the book and listen to his lectures and you will pass with ease. The tests were fair but not easy. You have to actually read and listen to pass them. I recommend him as a Prof.
I appreciated how enthusiastic he is about what he is teaching, it made me want to learn more. He curves all tests even though they aren't that hard, and doesn't give any homework!! Prof. Chu was one of my favorite professors. Bergen needs more enthusiastic professors like him.
hes so lenient, i did try so hard for this class. i did EVERY extra credit, he gives out like five every quiz or test, do them all! i got a C+ on the big test, but ended up getting an A for the semester cus of the extra credit, such a nice guy and funny too, he wants his students to do well, he really caresa bout them. take this class!!
Very challenging Honors course, but the most rewarding class I've taken so far. No homework; 3 major tests (he gives out a study sheet a week and a half in advance), a 7-10 page paper, and a 20-30 minute oral/visual presentation with a partner. He knows the subject well and gives great lectures. I learned a lot in this class. Chu is a great prof.
He is awesome! I took online during the summer and he is fairly easy. Very linient and cares for his students.
There is a lot of work but the professor is so fair. He really helps when you need it and treats with respect. I took History 101 and 102
i took hima online, too much work, but easy. do all your six papers around 2 to 4 papers and you six disuucusions and your six exams and you will get an A. he drops the lowest exam and if you did five papers, he will make the sixth as extra credit for you.plus he gives some other extra credits papers. he is awesome, i got an A.
He is a AWESOME professor i recommend taking him, no homework, just READ.
Took his class online. He responds to messages pretty quickly. There's a lot of homework and sometimes it can be a little stressful but he drops the lowest test grade and he's very fair grader on tests, papers, and discussions
A lot of work to do in the class, but Professor Chu is a fair grader. The class is paced well. A good deal of paper writing and research was required, extra because of the honors status of the course. By far the best history course I've taken at the college. Recommended.
Great class. There were a good amount of papers, but they only had to be 3-4 pages, and they were entirely relevant to our progress in the book, so very easy to write. The tests were definitely not super easy, but he told us they wouldn't be, and he graded on a curve and dropped our lowest test grade. It wasn't an easy A, but I enjoyed the work.
Honors Class. Three tests all which are announced in advance and study guide is provided. Three papers, based on the material in the book. One paper may be exchanged for an in-class presentation. Grading on papers is very tough, grading on presentation is much easier. Great teacher, knows his stuff, recommended to all wanting to learn history.
recommended to someone who likes history. Otherwise this class will be tough. However, prof. Chu is a great teacher.
Great teacher, must show up for class and cannot leave early, he will keep track. But overall a very good teacher and gives you an outline on the tests before hand. I would recommend him
He is a really good professor with a lot of knowledge about the subject. Take him if you really want to learn about history. you have to study hard to get an A.
Honors class. This professor is awesome. Lots of reading, three papers, and difficult tests, but if you want to learn about American history, thie the class you need to take. Took him for HIS-111 as well, also a recommended class. Do your work and study and you will end with an A.
A fair professor. In my experience his class entailed lectures, was fairly difficult (to be fair though it was an honors coarse) but was a fairly enjoyable class if you enjoy history. He assigned a handful of writing assignments of 4-5 pages in length an gave the option to substite one with a class presentation. Tests had all open ended questions.
Professor Chu is extremely organized, I love it! Took this class online. Although it is a required gen. ed course, it was THE best online course I have ever taken. Professor Chu's class was challenging, but extremely efficient.I learned a lot.If you are not a strong test taker, you can redeem yourself with paper. Highly recommended, but don't slack!
By far one of the best professor's I've ever had in college. He made every topic interesting which is so hard to do! I loved listening to his lectures, he really know his stuff. There are basically 3 major tests, & one paper. He gives you the study guide 2 weeks ahead of time. Just study & you'll do good! He's the best professor ever, take him!
3 exams, 3 essays, and an optional presentation. I highly recommend to record the lectures. The exams are in essay form and if you want an A write exactly what was said in the lecture and use the highlighted terms. Barely use the textbook so I would use the one in the library instead of buying.
Professor Chu is an excellent professor. I took his online course and it consisted of three parts: Discussion board, term paper, and exam. He is strict "no excuses" if missed an assignment. He separates the chapters 2 at a time, which are 30 pages each. At first, it was difficult but if you follow his method of learning; it will be a breeze.
This was an incredibly easy class online. I took west civ, one discussions, short essay, and test due every two weeks. If you need help Professor Chu answers within 24 hours great communication! I also heard hes great in the class room as well. Either way deff consider taking him if you need to take a history.
This course was slightly more challenging that my other online courses. The exams can be tricky, I had to reread the questions. Essays and the discussions were far easier than the exams. If you are looking for an easy breeze, look elsewhere because Chu isn't it. positive feedback always given after assignments are submitted-a quick grader. A!
Difficult for no reason. He does not treat this like a 101 course. EACH WEEK you Must read 2 long chapters, take extremely difficult test where he expects you to only get half the questions right, discussion along with 1.5-2 pg single spaced essay. I am a hard working student but I feel like he went out of his way to make this hard.
took this class online for Summer II, if you are going to take this class I would recommend to only take this class in the summer, it's a lot of work but very interesting, he requires you to do three things each week, discussion, test and essay; discussions are easy, test are very difficult, easy questions are easy, this class was easy and hard
Professor Chu is an extremely straightforward and fair teacher. He has a system which he expects you to abide by and as long as you do there is no reason not to do well. I have taken 3 courses with him this being my third (Western Civ) and each one has been great. As long as you do what he says there is no reason why you should not pass.
Professor Chu is a really good professor. You can tell he enjoys teaching and is passionate about history. His class is not easy, lots of work and the tests are extremely difficult. He points out if you get half the questions right on a test you did well. Class was online, forum posts, paper and test every two or three weeks. Over all, enjoyed it.
I took this course over the summer. He was great there is a discussion, test and a paper due each week. THIS CLASS IS VERY CHALLENGING. i suggest if you do not know how to write well, or do not like writing at all this online course is not for you. but overall great course, makes you really think about what you are writing.
His tests are difficult. Most of the questions on the tests are either not mentioned in lecture, or mentioned very briefly and not explained clearly. I recommend you read the textbook, but even then, the way the multiple choice questions are worded might confuse you.
absolutely horrible, test are very difficult, tough grader, does not use power point, not specific with workshop papers and gets off topic easily.
Took the course online and found the work very manageable for each week. You read 1-2 chapters, post on discussion board & respond twice, 30-50 question exam and a 1-2 page paper. You can get by skimming a lot of the history book for the discussion & paper, the exam is more detailed. Gives a pass for missed assignment on a paper, discussion & exam.
Prof. Chu is an amazing professor. I did not but the textbook and I scored a B+ every single test. He is very passionate about teaching geography and he also makes it very interesting. He may talk a lot but he does give you amazing information that I never knew about. Overall great man, easy grade if you try, tests consist of a lot of points
Pretty solid professor. I took his online class and usually you had two weeks to complete each chapter which included: a discussion post, paper, and exam. He is a bit of a tough grader but once you get the hang of things it's not too bad. He's organized and provides a lot of additional resources. I would take him again.
Excellent classroom presense
Really tough tests! Tough grader. Every two weeks (give or take) you have an 1500-1800 word paper, a difficult exam, and a discussion. You are given plenty of time but when you have other classes, its not easy. Would not take his class again.
Took this professor for online West Civ. Hardest class I had. There are 8 tests that are designed to be extra difficult. About 8 papers all 1200 words due almost every two weeks and a discussion for every week. Do not take him if you want an easy A or just to breeze by.
If you really like history, and you are hard work student. Prof. Chu is the want you want to take.
Really enjoyed Professor Chu's attitude toward the classroom and found them to be an insightful and fun professor to listen from. History is always presented in a straight forward and easy mannered way. If you pay attention, take your notes, and aren't bumming on your phone you will do well in this class and hopefully enjoy it too! Very fun!
Took this course over the summer: discussions and essays every week that require a lot of time, 3 exams are open book but challenging. Make sure you buy the textbook and read it or else you will fail. Do not procrastinate, start the work early, especially the discussions, or else he'll take points off. Drops the lowest grade, deadlines are strict.
Though the course was not easy and boring, it is doable if you start early, read the syllabus, textbook, and submit everything on time. He makes you work hard, which teaches you responsibility and you get to enhance your writing skills. 3 open book tests can be tough, 1 or 2 extra credit assignments, the lowest grade gets drops. No research papers.
Good prof. instructions are very clear and he is very organized. Unless you are a hard worker who likes geography, don't take this class because it is very tough. Not an easy A, makes you hard really hard for your grade. If you don't read, study, put effort into any work, or decide to procrastinate, then drop this course because you will fail.
Easy grader. I had no idea what I was saying in my essays, but he thought my essays were insightful lol. Interestingly, the less I tried, the better grade I got. I spent 4-5 hours on my first essay and got a B+. Spent half an hour on my last essay and got an A. Nice guy. Easy course. Fast grader. I could have done better but was just so busy.
The assignments he gives are a little time consuming but they are spaced out fairly evenly.
Confusing. essay questions that were at least 5+ Qs in 1 made it difficult to develop an essay structure. Exams difficult to the point where getting 1/2 right is a B. While admittedly it was asynchronous, I wish I got to interact the professor. This setup might work for some, but it didn't for me. I passed, but I wish I got more out of the course.
Great professor, very caring and knowledgable. He talks the entire class, but the lectures will be VERY valuable for essays and exams; TAKE NOTES! I did not need the textbook at all. 3 essays, but only 2 are required. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit. 3 exams in total, but format changes with each test. Detailed study guides are provided.
