Very easy class. Probably the easiest history class I've taken. It's mostly taking notes, reading books and doing socratic seminars. You write like three essays but he grades very easily. He is also funny
No Comments
very unhelpful when i emailed for clarification on midterm...told me he makes announcements at the beginning of class and wouldn't repeat them for me. little does he know my father in law had a stroke...and that is why i missed the mid term instructions...i will be dropping his class
Easy class, very informative, pay attention, funny guy. You will need to be a bit self motivated, but it is no problem. Don't be late!!!
HE'S HELLA CHiLL & NiCE. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SHOW UP FOR HIS CLASS AND YOU'LL BE FINE, HOMEWORKS EASY. I LOVED THAT CLASS, IT WAS A dREAM =)
wow... just show up! DONT BE LATE : )
EASY A. NO QUIZ OR TEST, YOU JUST HAVE TO ATTEND ALL HIS CLASSES AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON TIME. TAKE HIM
take this class! show up on time or you will hear "don't be late to my class!" This guy is what being a college professor is all about, smart and has fun teaching, really take this guys classes
Easy class, but he is through. He talks quickly, but has notes avail for download/printing online. Great at explaining things, and generally sticks to what you actually need to know instead of going off on tangents. :)
Cox is a great guy/professor. He is very passionate about teaching and even more so about History! Homework is easy, essays were fine, pretty easily graded if you answer the question. YOU must be on time and attend Every Class he is strick on attendence. Take Cox if you have the chance just make sure you attend every class and you'll both be happy
It is very easy to get an A. You don't have to do the midterm or Final if you have 100% attendance. If you miss a class he lets you come to another to make up and get credit for that class you missed. If you want a class your really don't have to worry about passing he is the one to take.
I was dreading this class since I hate history but he's gets right to the point. You're never in class the whole 3 hours. No real homework every night. He makes you read 4 books and write about them. If you have perfect attendance you don't have to take the midterm or final! Oh yeah....and don't be late or else he'll point you out and yell at you.
Great professor, I will greatly recommend taking this cl****. Professor Cox is very p****ionate about History and you will definitely learn, just don't be late. Everything I hear is true, he will yell at you if you are late, but don't take it personal. I love his cl****!
i had him both for hist 109 and 110. He's great !I love his teaching style. Class is not boring. I'll never forget about him. Fun, Talent, Sense of humor. Take him, you will not regret.
Come to class everyday and you dont have to take the midterm or final. Write two 5 paragraph papers and a handful of assignments about documents/books. He provides half of them for free and the others cost like $5. You dont have to buy the textbook. Buy a $10 recorder for class and that will be your textbook. Teacher is interesting and lively.
Makes history fun and interesting. I thought I was going to fall asleep with this subject but I was wrong. Books were just $30 all together. Just pay attention and you will learn.
"your late! dont come to my class late!" lol cool proff. you'll learn alot
Great Lecturer. Always starts class with an appropriate song. Just don't come to class late or you'll get chewed out (It distracts him). Take good notes and you'll be fine.
Great teacher! Makes it exciting! Take thorough notes & don't miss more than 1 class. He's not compassionate when it comes to absences. I lost 10% as a result of 1 absence & leaving class early once when I was sick. All that aside, it's a fun class, & an easy A if you do your work & show up. Everyone has to take the midterm & final - rules changed.
Awesome teacher. You just gotta show up and take notes. Easy A
Excellent professor. He believes in using first hand sources as opposed to text books. We read several documents such as "The Communist Manifesto." He is very kind. His only requests are for you to treat him with respect by showing up to class and by showing up on time. Try your best; he is a very fair grader even when you're wrong.
Class was okay if you are able to stand him. He's rude to students during lecture time. Wrongly accused people in class in front of everyone and didn't even apologized. Gotta show up on time,if not, he'll embarrass you in front of the whole class.
Prof. Cox is very entertaining and knows his stuff. Homework is online. Make sure to keep track of assignments and come to class every time. Take lots of notes, it helps for the tests, multiple choice. Great lecturer. Starts off the class with a song, usually. Don't be late. Never interested or understood U.S. History until this class!
Horrible teacher period. Locks the classroom door preventing students from attending who show up late, does not allow students to leave his classroom and return for any reason(even if it is just to use the restroom), He cannot stay on track, and it is impossible to understand his lectures because he has a terrible lisp!!!!
The professor is OK. No textbook required. His 3 hours class always cut to 1 hour and half. The professor has a talent skill on speaking fast. You gonna be careful to take the notes. Two exams are ambiguous and short. Student need to have good English level and history background before the class. Otherwise, you will say goodbye to your A.
It "might" be nice to play a music before the class. Pour abundant information to students without a break. No pee during the class!! Hardly to ask a question, he jumps to his next topic ASAP. No review before the only two tests. No curve. You missed one of them, no mercy. Good luck for the students who is going to take his class.
After finished my final test, I still have no idea about 90% of my home works, discussions, writings. I like history. Finally I got my grade from e-grade,but I have no idea which part I did good and bad. I studied very hard and couldn't get A.No recommendation for him.
cox is horrible! should have read other reviews and STAYED AWAY! doesn't teach anything. talks way to fast! doesn't respond to e-mails at all! i barely passed the class and had to get help from my old hist 109 professor.
CONS: Had NO idea what my grades were until after the final, he only graded 2 assignments. Doesn't return emails. Tests R off lecture, take NOTES. Class discussions will give you anxiety!! 1st book is the hardest, easier ones follow. PROS: 3 hr class always ends after 1.5 hours. Lectures can be fun/interesting. Books only cost $40, no $200 textbook
Class was easy. Graded all the scantron tests on a curve. Extra credit was available. Homework done online. Gave us our final weeks in advance. He told us which parts in the chapters of the textbook we didnt have to read saving much time. He may talk fast, but you will be fine if you do the reading. Is a little crazy about tarties or pee breaks.
SUPER easy. Just do all of the work (there's very little) that he assigns. You get out of class way early every day. Read and actually go to class, because sometimes he gives perfect scores on quizzes and lots of extra credit for just showing up. DON'T BE LATE.
I had Dr. Cox as my professor for Hist 109 and 110 and I had a final grade of A in both classes. This is an EASY class but you gotta do your work. Do all the assigments according to his syllabus. Read the textbook and do the book reports. My final exam in Hist 109 was a 25 multiple choise open notes exam. Hist 110 was an essay. Piece of cake!
hist 109/110. people keep talking bout cox not giving bathroom breaks...well considering he lets you go an hour early everyday i don't think they should complain. do the work and its an easy a. grades on a curve and loads of extra credit. gives final way in advance, usually an essay. great teacher, always gives time in class to answer any questions
My first impression was that he had had way to many energy drink before class and It was very intimidating. He turned out to be a huge teddy bear. Do all the extra credits and all the assignments. Show up on time, read the material and stay all the way till the end to make sure you will do the quiz or get credit for it. Attendance is must.
Awesome prof! Knows his stuff and has entertaining lectures. Goes beyond the facts/dates and teaches the craft of history. The book is more of an overview for this class, most of the learning comes from lectures and first hand sources. One of the best profs at Mesa
This was one of the best history classes I've taken. He would start the class with music every day and always asked us how we were doing, really nice guy. We had class discussions every day so we got to know other students which was great. No midterms or in class final. Just show up for small quizzes, offers tons of EC, and a final paper. easy!
He is pretty weird and his classes are boring. However, I still would pick him over any other professor. This is SUCH an easy class. No tests, no quizzes. Homework assignments are like 4 questions online. Final is an at home essay. He even gives you extra credit. He hates when people are late or use their phones in class, but overall a nice guy.
Take this class if you want an easy A. Lectures are long/boring, videos are often(attendance mandatory for document analysis), don't make noise/be late to class or you'll get called out. Assignments are can easily be BS'd but the tests are the BIGGEST things. Tests are based on EVERYTHING in the book so you can't really prep. Curves grades.
Definitely an easy class, but that's the only reason I would take him again. I didn't like going to class because he seemed to merely tolerate students and would get annoyed extremely easily. However, the way he teaches is actually very interesting and I learned quite a bit. Teaches more on concepts than actual historical events.
i really enjoyed the class. it is mandatory that you show up to class. professor hates cell phones in class so turn off your phone for an hour. professor cox encourages student to participate in class and interact with other students. i think you will enjoy this class, but don't expect to just coast through without doing some work. he is very fair.
Hey i took his class on spring, I had 75 percent in Class and only 25% for the essay writing was left and I did mistake turn on the wrong essay in the final and he gave me D I spoke to him and said can I turn the right essay he said nope, he was acting rude to me I was the best guy in his class very polite and respect and he didn't even consider.
Very cool professor. His teaching methods are very good and I was surprised how much I took away from the course. There is not a ton of work, but each assignment must be done well and his tests aren't easy. Be respectful of the man's work and don't use your cell phone during class. If you need this class, take him.
Love his teaching technique, show up on time, no cell phones, easy A, test aren't that hard, basically show up and later have about 3-5 questions on blackboard on the martial you seen on the video or notes. Both semesters received an A. Easiest class so far hands down. Oh and he lets you out of class earlier then expected!!
Easy A as long as you do all of the assignments. This professor seems to think we all want to be historians though, making the final an essay in turabian format because thats what historians use. He also is crazy about the idea of turning off your phone before class. I didnt learn anything from the class either. Lots of videos
Ended up getting an A in the class. Do every assignment and attend each class and you'll end up with an A. The lectures and videos are a tad boring but take notes and listen up. The tests are graded on a curve and hes helpful when you go to office hours. I hate history and never read the textbook once besides a few pages for the essay and got an A.
Great teacher. I learned so much from him and I appreciate him sharing his knowledge with me. Take this class show up listen and don't giggle in the back like little girls. You'll get an easy A and learn a lot along the way too. Belongs at a better school.
Dr. Cox is a reasonable grader with his assignments. If you do not show up then you do not get credit and he will not accept your homework assignment that would be given that day. He takes attendance up until the last class. His assignments are fairly simple. It's rare you will get an A on them. Make sure you do all (roughly 11) of the assignments.
I never liked the subject history and wouldn't have enrolled if it wasnt required but taking his hist 109 last semester, changed my mind. I now see and respect the importance of history. He's a fair grader, very intelligent and makes every lecture enjoyable. His laidback straightforward attitude was refreshing and he has a great sense of humor!
I would recommend his class. He does explain well, energetic and provides you extra credit opportunities. Warning: never miss a class and submit every single one assignment!
Easiest A I've ever gotten in any class. Just show up, take notes, read the chapters here and there, do everything he assigns and you're more than likely to recieve a guranteed A. He can also be very lenient when it comes to grading as well, haha. Lots of video which can be boring but nonetheless, he made history interesting. Take him if you can!
Easiest Class. I got a 101% in the class and never read the book. Not to mention I hate history in general. Attend every class if you can, so you can get full credit on the homework assignments. Kinda boring lectures but doesn't matter.
Great history professor. Provides plenty of extra credit. homework can be submitted any time on one condition, you need to have attended class when it was due. Makes history interesting, does expect participation from class. Take him, it'll be worth your time.
His major problem is late grading. It takes him for over to grade you. He also isnt organized, his syllabus and his requirements will change many times through the semester, always confirm everything with him. Overall, he is a good teacher and fair grader. Accepts your late work as long as you do them all.
Professor Cox is a very knowledgeable person in his field as a History instructor. He is truly prepared for class and truly liked the students to understand the lectures. Importantly, he has taught us not just knowing the important of history in the past but more of nowadays as well. I am truly respected him as a good professor in his field.
He teaches from what he knows not what the books say, and it's difficult to keep up with him in class. If you are kind of shy or get intimidated to speak up this class is not for you, also if history is your worst subject, I suggest you find someone else.
Very good history professor! He will inspire you to think about modern day issues and how they connect with the past. Often papers and extra credit tasks via blackboard. Group project during last weeks of class. I took US history II part with him.
I absolutely loved taking Cox for History 109 & 110. Before taking his class, I couldn't stand the thought of taking History. He makes History fun and clear to understand. I actually cried when I finished my 110 final this morning because I couldn't believe how much I learned from this man. I'll miss you! Thank you so much Professor Cox. - Casey S.
Professor Cox is one of those professors that makes class fly by because it's never dull. If you have the choice, I definitely recommend taking his class! Test are based on what's said in class so it's basically impossible to do poorly.
He grade test and assignments(due on backboard)is super easy if you doing all your work and turn in before due date. He accept his late work and you still get full credit by giving him a hard copy of your hw. Test(2 online textbook on blackboard and 2 respond) are easy b/c you just copy all the words that he mention in class to get full credit.
I am a 4.0 student and this is one of the worst professors I've ever had. Lectures are completely disorganized, test questions are not from lectures or the text books. He expects an unrealistic level of base knowledge and berates students for using the restroom. I would warn you against taking any of his classes
I love this class, everyday is like story time! I like that he even tells you in the beginning that history is not just about what happened but what is said to happen. That is why textbooks aren't super important. I listen and just take notes on his lectures. I have the study guide with me and just take notes on what is on the guide! Easy A.
Professor Cox is a solid guy. He's very no nonsense and not completely hands on at all times. He goes with the flow and has amazing music taste. His lectures are very interesting and he definitely knows his stuff. Group project at the end of semester that is pretty straight forward!
Great teacher. Has a ton of extra credit assignments given. His goal is to get you to use what you learn, not just about history, outside of the class. Be a critical thinker. Very much enjoyed.
I love that he play song related to the topic that will be discuss for the day. He gave a lot of extra credit, he explain all the materials that will be needing for every assignment. Listen and pay attention to his lecture because he knows when you find answer on Google. He is an awesome prof.!!
Pretty much the easiest class you will ever take. You can use your notes on the tests. Most assignments are done online. A bunch of extra credit. 1 group project at the end of the semester in which your group will have to lead the class in the discussion of a topic. Take him if you do not care to learn the subject and just want the easy A.
Absolutely loved this class. This professor was awesome, he made it easy and fun to learn about history which can sometimes be boring. He is always willing to help and stay after class to talk. If you show up, do the work and you are a good writer, this will be easy for you.
I took professor Cox for History 109 and 110 and cant emphasis enough that this is the class you are looking for. Tests are open notes and extra credit comes plentiful. Take advantage of the extra credit when he assigns it because it is worth a lot of points. Group project at the end of the semester. Go sign up already...
He was a cool guy just very confusing on assignments and grading. Won't grade your stuff in a timely matter so be prepared for that. Love his lectures because he gets interactive but you MUST be there to get credit for a lot of stuff and yes, he takes roll daily. Also, has some weird strict rules like no phones EVER or no going the bathroom???
This guy is the GOAT. 12 easy assignments (400pts), 2 textbook exams (120 pts, taken online), 2 written exams (180 pts, taken in class w/ open notes, he gives a study guide and pulls 5 questions directly from it), group project (200 pts), and almost 200 POINTS OF EXTRA CREDIT. Final was just the second written exam, not cumulative. Take this mans
interesting and simple class. lectures are usually short, homework is easy and doable, tests are easy (its basically the study guide), most importantly show up to class.
His lectures are extremely heavy. If you are shy and quite, this class is not for you, group project and discussion (alot in class). He is a great professor, hilarious. He talk really fast and its hard to catch up. If you think you can handle this class, take it. But Im not recommend this class.
It's not an easy A, but if you show up to class, have a say in a few things, and actually put in a little effort, you should have no problem getting an A.
I found myself to be very overwhelmed during his lectures, I'm very organized and his lectures are just not. I would try to follow the study guide in class but he barely follows it but then expects you to only answer with things HE said in class not from txtbook or online. BUT, he does offer extra credit so that makes up for it. Group project @ end
He is nice but isn't very understanding nor does he really listen to what you have to say. He says to follow his syllabus over his own word but if you don't double check with him you could mess up. I followed what was on his syllabus like he said and then he switched two assignment days up and didn't update his syllabus so I missed the assignment.
I took the class in Intercession 4 wk and the midterm and final were super easy. I recommend taking this in intercession to get it out of the ed plan. But don't miss class, he'll take attendance everyday. This was an easy A as long as you do the assignments and participate. DO NOT MISS A DAY OF CLASS
This class is an easy A. He really lectures heavy, all you do is take notes. He has a syllabus that has everything you will be doing for the semester. Only one-panel presentation and four tests. You do have to attend class, if you miss class and there is an assignment that correlated with the lesson, you receive an automatic zero.
Dr. Cox is amazing. Great and fun lectures. There are 2 written exams based off of his lectures and 2 multiple choice exams based off the readings from the textbook. There is also 1 group project at the end that practically serves as the final. There is tons of extra credit. You will learn very interesting things in this class. Thank's Dr. Cox!
I took this class for intercession. YOU MUST COME TO CLASS EVERYDAY! If you despise history you will find this class EXTREMELY BORING but the class is easy. You only have a few assignments. LOTS of extra credit. All textbooks are online for free or cheap! Textbook tests are all on quizlet so dont trip. Written exams are taken as a class discussion
He doesn't allow electronic note taking and his tests are based off of what he says in lecture. He has an extremely ableist attendance policy, I was going through a hard time mentally and had to miss some classes for intensive therapy appointments and he basically told me if I miss class I miss class. If you have a disability don't take him.
Be prepared to regurgitate his own words back to him, or risk being accused of using Chat GPT. There is 3 to 5 hours of reading and writing required each week. Group projects in a 100% online asynchronous class situation = frustration. Difficulty level on par with the UC system and not what a GE required class at a community college should be.
He is a good, funny and interesting professor but he is quite rigid. I took this class while working and it was a lot of work but an interesting class. If you are taking him during a normal semester, as opposed to summer, than I think this class would be a fun and easy class. If taken during an abridged semester than i would be wary of workload.
Good teacher. Lectures can get confusing, especially since they're just recorded zoom calls of his past classes from quarantine. However, if you pay attention to what he's saying, it'll be pretty easy. You'll also constantly be accused of using AI. Don't dismiss the lecture modules!!!
Literally I wish I could give him one star. I was enrolled in his class for two days. Emailed him the first day he never got back to me. Didn't know how to complete any of the work because there was no guidance, he responded to my email with a two word response. Joined his zoom and he was so rude and unhelpful. Lots of work, no guidance, terrible.
Dropped his class first week. He made it impossible to get in touch with him and was very unfriendly. For an online class he provides a lot of work and expects you to figure it out on your own. Take any other teacher/class.
Worst online class I've ever taken. He doesn't respond to you until weeks later unless the entire class is having the same problem. Not very interactive as he just uses old zoom calls as "lectures" and then makes it difficult by making the question way more complex than it needs to be. If its not his exact words its wrong. Pick someone else.
Horrible. His system is not clear at all. Get ready for more than eight assignments a week. Unclear instructions for almost every assignment. Unclear grading criteria. Overall, it was a horrible experience. Objectively, there was no reason for this class to be so unorganized.
not great.
Absolutely NOT! I'm 2 months in and if I had the chance to change professors I would. Horrible communication, if you send a message asking for clarification on an assignment, one word is all you'll get aYes or No. In fact he won't respond to your question, he'll just be sassy and say, read the module. he's rude and doesn't know how to use canvas
So bad with communication, the median of every assignment was 13/50. Horrible
So bad, doesn't respond to emails. HORRIBLE and unclear instructions. Posts a million same day assignments.
Professor Cox struggles significantly with pacing his assignments. He'll often post something on canvas that is due the next day, but also requires finishing 4 other assignments to do it. His course takes up the majority of my workload despite being introductory-level. Do not take this class.
There were multiple assignments that required specific books without ever mentioning they would be needed. The lectures are messy and he is quick to accuse usage of AI. By far the most tedious class I've ever had, I haven't learned anything.
Professor creates stress through inconsistent policies, last-minute due date changes, and auto-locking assignments. Uses decades-old materials then threatens students when AI detection flags naturally similar responses. Spends his time monitoring AI rather than teaching. Simple course becomes anxiety-inducing.
Prof Cox made his grading criteria difficult and is hard to reach. His weekly assignments feel like a lot sometimes and he grades tough. You certainly need to put a lot of effort in order to succeed and be ready to work independently without much guidance. There was no exams if you did his homework so that is a plus. However, this course was hard.
Took this as an online class with no zoom, so not sure what professor was like. However, what I can say is that he gives way too much work without going too much into detail. While I can tell he cares about the subject, he does not care about his students as he just wants you to figure out things on your own. Take another professor, IN PERSON!
Do not take this class. The material was very interesting, but the workload was overwhelming. Professor Cox took weeks to grade assignments and gave no feedback or reasoning behind his grades. His tone throughout the course was very condescending, with unclear/confusing instructions. I felt like I was stumbling blind through this whole class.
