I took him last year. But he is a very sweet teacher. He would take the whole day if necessary to help you on his homework problems. It was a shame that he couldnt teach college algebra, spring semester. YOU NEED TO TAKE HIS CLASS, VERY EASY.

He is a very nice man, and I learned so much that I didn't understand in High School.

HE'S AWESOME; MADE IT SO EASY! SO SWEET AND HELPFUL. GAVE ME NEW CONFIDENCE IN ALGEBRA! TAKE HIM!

Prof. L is a heck of a nice guy. He goes slowly, is never impatient and takes his subject seriously. He is never too busy to help outside class, either! take him!

Explains math in terms that everyone can understand. Gives partial credit. The best math teacher I've ever had.

He's not difficult and helpful. I learned more here than in high school. Take his class, he's easy.

If you take note and come to all the classes he will prepare you for the compass very well! Between him and Mrs. Craig I am now prepared to take College Algebra! Very Good Instructor!

Very good teacher. I took this class last semester and failed the exam. I took his class this semester and got an 90 on the exam and passed the compass. Not only that there were only seven of us in this class. The whole entire class passed the final with a high score. Great teacher.

Love him! Excellent teacher! Thank GOD I got Luoma! He really cares. He's got a wonderful personality and gets cuter the more you know him. Always making jokes in class. Kinda reminds you of an older Greg Brady. I PASSED THE FREAKIN COMPASS!!!!!!

He's a great professor, he's very organized and explains the material very clearly. Previously I failed his class in the summer of 06 but I came out this fall with a bang I had a 94 class average and I made an 80 on the final and I made a 77 on the COMPASS!!! I wish he was teaching College Algebra!! Keep up the good work!!

Nice guy. I really liked the way he lectured, using the projector and his own paper, made it easier to follow. Very good teacher. Take him if you can.

He is a really nice guy and he helps when he can. Just do the basic student stuff (attendance, homework, studying etc.) and you will be fine.

I hate math and totally don't get it sometimes. I haven't finished this class yet, but Mr.Luoma is a great professor. He breaks everything down to where I can understand it. Just make sure you attend all classes, even "review" days because he sometimes gives hints for what will be on the test.

I think Professor Luoma is a wonderful teacher. He is so patient and willing to slow down to make sure you understand before he moves on. He has a way of making you feel like he is truly concerned about your progress. I would definitely recommend Professor Luoma. He's the best!!!

A great teacher who always comes to class in a pleasant mood. He not only teaches math very well but he also explains why certain operations are done. He's not a stickler about attendance, unless your grades reflect it.

I absolutely suck at math, and didn't pay any attention in highschool, so I knew I would be screwed in college. Professor Luoma was AWESOME though, and made everything totally easy to understand, and is really helpful. If you pay attention in class, you'll do great on the tests and understand math WAY better than before.

Awesome prof. Prior to Luoma, I've never had a professor that had such a keen ability to explain problems in a way that was so easy to comprehend. If you carried an A average in the class, he didn't care about attendance.

Coming in I didn't understand math very much however with the help of Professor Luoma math has become a very easy subject for me.

I took him for math 99 and he explained everything in a way a child could understand. He is very open to helping after class. I wish he taught college algebra. If you have to take math 099 or 097 try to take him he is the best!!

He is a very good teacher.. He doesn't give out homework. He's very easy. I didn't try in that class because of the rush of college got to me and I still made a "B"

He explains things very well, and will answer questions if you ask. There is homework on most nights, but it's usually fairly easy. He doesn't us the book itself, but does use the software that comes with the book. I will definitely be taking him again for Math 099

He was sooo helpful....I really struggled with math until but the way he explained it I actually got it.

This guy is awesome. Hands down the best math teacher ever. He taught everything effectively in class so that I never had to actually open my textbook. The homework was online and was usually very short. I failed college algebra and came back to audit MATH 99. I now feel much better prepared to complete college algebra.

math 0099. He prepares you for the compass which is all that matters. He breaks everything down to make sure you understand the material. I passed the Compass easily even tho I'm horrible at math. Mr Luoma is a GREAT teacher, he explains everything so well and makes sure you understand it before moving on. His test are exactly what is taught in class. I wish he taught 1111 and 1113.

Very helpful and is crystal clear in explanation! Math is my worst subject, but professor Luoma makes it so easy! I HIGHLY recommend this professor if you have issues with any math subject.

GRU no longer has learning support classes. I was nervous because passing this class and the following compass determined my college fate. He was so understanding. Took his time explaining asked if we had questions let us work over problems until we felt comfortable with them. He would stay after class if we had any other issues.

He's a good professor. I would take him again.

Luoma is a great math teacher. He assigns a lot of homework (MyMathLab) BUT it counts as a test grade at the end of the semester, so its an easy 100. I liked the way he organized the class period. Tests were very clear on what we learned. I would definitely take him again.

His lectures drag on and on. He has a very calm, monotone-ish voice so be prepared to fall asleep. He tries to joke around and sometimes goes on a tangent. Although lecture is boring, he will help you with anything. He's a very kind and humble guy. Attendance isn't mandatory. He posts lectures online (videos) in case you missed class too. He's okay

The last rater and I must be on different planets. I loved the class, and the other students (that I talked to) loved it too.

He is one of the best teachers i ever had! he is so clear that even the worst math student will be able to understand.. his tests are straight from the homework and there are no surprises, loved his class

He is monotone, but overall great teacher. Homework is harder than tests. If you need help, just ask. He is very clear and organized

His lectures are great, he explains everything clearly and doesn't give too much material at once. He's also super nice and will answer any questions you have. Just show up to class, pay attention, and do the homework. Easiest math class I've ever taken.

He really cares about his students. Takes his time to explain everything and ensures students understand before moving on to something else. All of the homework is counted as one TEST grade which helps the final grade a lot. He will go the extra mile to explain things. Hes very intelligent!!!!!!

Before tests he would have an optional review class and if you went he literally went over the test with just different numbers. He also gave extra credit if you did the online homework and those points went on the final. Super easy A and he was really easy to understand. If you had a question or did not understand he would explain in other terms.

I had Luoma online, and he was such a helpful professor. He uploaded step-by-step videos and was always accessible outside of class. He responded to every email and made sure you understood why you may have gotten an answer incorrect. My favorite thus far.

Luoma is very nice and genuine. He really wants his students to succeed. I enjoy his teaching skills and Ive never been the one to like math. His PowerPoints and practice problems help a lot to understand the material. He tells you what will be on the test and he grades pretty fair. You can tell hes very passionate and loves helping his students!

Luoma is a GREAT professor. As long as you come to class and pay attention to lecture you should be fine. He gives a lot of practice questions and worksheets which are VERY helpful, and they are formatted very similar to questions on the test. He truly cares about his students understanding the material, and is very quick to help if you're confused

Professor Luoma is one of the best at AU. He really cares about his students and their performance in the class. His lectures are so clear, and he always asks if anyone has any questions. Don't stress too much about homework, but study the notes for the tests. If you need to take any math class, see if he's teaching it, and take him!

Luomas lectures are almost identical to his exams. His lectures consist of practice problems and he goes through all the problems which will repeat on the test. The last 20-30 min of class is when he gives worksheets that give students extra practice. His class is an easy A if you put in the work.

This was a stats class. Videos were very helpful.

Hes the best math professor at AU. Hands down. The stats class was one day a week but his lectures werent hard at all. He even uploaded additional videos to help us. He gave us classwork at the end of class and posted the answers on the board. The online homework wasnt difficult and it counted toward extra credit. Very caring professor.

Best math teach here. The class is hybrid so attendance isn't required. Post all of the work from the first day so work at your pace. However, I would highly recommend attending the once a week class as well as reinforcing lesson with the online lecture as well. Keep up with all the homework which counts as a test grade and study to get easy A

He's not a bad professor, in any means, but I had his online persona. YMMV Below are some things Professor Luoma lacked/could improve on: 1 - No Test prep (Just study your past Homework/Notes, FeelsBadMan) 2 - 75 minute tests (He won't budge, trust) 4 - His course hasn't been updated since 2018 5 - I don't have a #3

Dr. Luoma is nice. I have him for online class, and he posts recordings on D2L for us and weekly homework on WebAssign. Take him if you like to work at your own pace. He is also lenient on homework and gives you many tries. Tests are okay but you still have to study for them. Overall, great professor!

Very easy course, the lectures are clear and easy to understand. There are only 3 tests and the final is optional. Homework will count as a test grade, but still fairly easy (5 attempts each question). Sweet professor, easy class. Should not be too hard!

I took his class online and I really enjoyed having him as a professor. From his emails, he seemed like a really nice and caring man. You have a total of 4 tests throughout the semester. 3 test coming from what you learned in the homework and the last one being your homework average as a test. Overall a solid choice and professor to take!

This class is tough but if you put in the time to study, then it won't be a problem. Grades are based of exams 75% exam and 25% homework. There is also an Optional finals exam to replace a lowest exam grade. I enjoyed the class and definitely recommend.

I loved Dr. Luoma! He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. He is always willing to take the time and help you with anything you are struggling with. He is the best math teacher I have ever had. He makes the class easy by explaining things so well. I do not consider myself good at math but I did very well on his tests because of him. Also, his tests usually add up to more than 100 points which helps your grade.

Dr. Luoma is one of my favorites at AU. He is so caring and willing to help you learn the content. I have had him both online and in person - both were wonderful experiences, could not recommend him enough. Clear homework and three take home tests that were exactly like what we did in class.

I love this man with every fiber of my being--had zero statistics background before taking this course and I hate algebra. Loved this course, was really easy if you put some effort in and he's a great professor. Lectures are wonderful.

super easy class. Professor is very kind and helpful. Posts videos to help study for the test which are the only thing you need if you dont want to go to class. Only 4 grades one of which is the combined homework grade.
