He's funny, but he talks fast. He lets us use the book on the tests and two pages of notes. He goes through examples in class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it definitely helps.

He's a cool guy, but he does not pull punches. If you bomb a test or miss a homework he will not pity you. He stopped letting us use the book on tests, but the homework isn't as hard as it used to be. Tests are pretty hard, but not ball busters. Over all he's one of the hardest in the department, but he is also one of the best.

Hard class, but explains very well. He talks fast but he does mention that on the first day of class. If you attend lectures diligently, you will get used to his pace. He prepares you for STAT 212, and other STAT classes well.

Like 90% of the profs here, he gives sloppy lectures, and then curves some people up on the test in order to save himself from getting fired. I learned more from Khan Academy than sitting in his class. Very accessible and funny, though.

Hatfield thinks he his hilarious when he talks really fast and makes a lot of jokes in class, and rightfully so, I laughed to the point of tears often. However, he doesn't seem as funny when you show up to the test and feel hopelessly confused by altered question formats and confusing content. The course is very doable, but you will teach yourself.

He is a decent professor, but the tests are very difficult. One would think it would be similar to homework or the practice exams, but they are not. This makes it difficult to prepare for the test if you are used to studying this way, like I am. The lectures are hard to get through at 8am.

Homework was given over each chapter, but it wasn't too bad. He sort of expects you to understand the material right away, so if you don't understand something or don't go to class then you can easily get behind. The tests are tough and theoretical, but usually there is only two real choices. His lectures were entertaining with fun examples.

I should've listened when he told us on the first day of class that he is known for having the hardest exams. I felt as if I understood all of the concepts but his test questions were tricky. Went to 4.0 and go for the 2nd test and final. Homework was easy. Professor came off as unapproachable.

I understood the concepts discussed in class and did very well on the weekly homework, but always bombed the tests. He gives two tests during the course, plus a final. So basically if you do bad on one exam, it's hard to recover from it. The tests were unnecessarily hard, and weren't a good indication of my understanding of the material.

Professor Hatfield was an alright professor. He definitely knows his stuff and has a passion for statistical analysis, but he talks in circles. He'll say something and talk about it until it doesn't even make sense. Overall, I felt I learned a lot from him, but if you can't write fast or understand fast talking, then he's not for you.

I honestly hate the guy so much. He constantly berates the class as a whole and basically has two general expressions: pissed off or smug. As a person he sucks. As a prof (behind the oozing toxicity of his personality), he teaches decently well and explains things if help is needed. Exams are hard and have useless "reading check" questions.

His tests were difficult but they did cover the material we did in class and on the homework. He is very passionate about what he teaches. He talks really fast but it was helpful during the 8am class. He does crack jokes every so often. He will get very angry if you don't follow his directions during an exam. Sometimes he can be in a bad mood.

Hatfield is a very interesting lecturer. However most of the time he goes off on tangents and talks very fast (so fast that sometimes he doesn't even remember his last sentence). My advice is to go to the majority of lectures, read all of his online notes, and go to 4.0, and you'll make an A or B.

Homeworks are a joke and give little to no indication of what test questions will be like. Tests are hard and you have to make sure to read all his slides and additional information carefully and really understand the topics. That being said, he covers everything you need to know in lecture and you can bring a full page of notes to each exam.

If you haven't taken statistics prior to this class, it will most likely be pretty difficult for you. He expects you to understand the material right away. Lecture was often uncomfortable b/c he was constantly mad at the tech guys for there being problems with the computer. His tests are pretty hard, but if you work hard you'll do fine.

I took this class expecting it to be an easy A because I remember friends that took it in high school saying it was a breeze. I was wrong. You have to work for your grade in this class. Pay attention in lectures, and read ALL of the additional topics. He always has at least a question or two over specific details from those. 4.0 is really helpful.

Dr. Hatfield cared if you understood the material presented in class. He keeps you awake, and relates the material to real examples. Material is very math based but understandable. Plenty of outside notes available. Very organized class that never got off track. Taking time to do the homework is key to passing the class. Great prof.

Hatfield is a funny and engaging professor. A lot of people have strong opinions of him, but he knows what he's doing and he's a good teacher. This class was harder than I thought it would be. He is helpful during his office hours. He can be a bit abrasive, but he means well.

He's so funny and interesting! He's great to listen to. He's also caring and understanding, despite his bad reputation. Go to his office hours and sit up front and you'll be fine. It's so easy to listen to. He's so sweet.

Good Professor, he has real industry experience and if you really are interested in the material, he can give some real keen insight into the data science and operations research fields. The class is straightforward, you need to learn the material front and back and that's the only way to pass. There are many options for help, like office hours.

Dr. Hatfield loves golf. He has been teaching stats for a long time and knows well how to deliver the content to students. He takes feedback well and is always looking to improve his class for the next semester, which is nice. Using R and RStudio for homeworks is annoying, but Hatfield is very accessible out of class to help you via email.

Professor Hatfield is awesome. He gives good lectures with examples in class, and makes them entertaining too. He has his own way of going about the criteria of the course, which doesn't bother me, personally. Go to his office hours, and he will simplify concepts you don't understand. Kieth's a fine choice.

His STAT 211 class only has two exams (13 questions), 10 HW assignments (5 questions), and a final. There's basically no margin for error. Don't make stupid mistakes (he'll call you a boob if you do). Every in-class example was really random (mostly involving llamas) so he's at least entertaining (he's a living, breathing meme).

Easy A, test are simple and basic questions that are straight forward and clear. Study them powerpoints and additional topics and you will get an A on your tests. He loves llamas btw, so if you mention llamas, he will love you (just say you're a llama expert)

Hatfield is a great lecturer. He really cares about the material he's teaching and makes sure you understand the material. There's 2 tests, a final, and 10 hws. He's forced to teach students how to use "R" but does it only because you have to use it for the homework. He sends out the lec. powerpoints but you need to go to class to fully understand.

You have webassign homework (10), two exams, and a cumulative final. You get cheat sheets for all of them. Be prepared to use RStudio, but don't be scared by it because he gives you the code to use. He's very lively in class (even for an 8am) and is very helpful in office hours or by email.

Great lectures. Very accessible via email & office hours. Provides all you need to excel; notes, homework help, & past exams are online. Exams have attendance questions & are a little tough because you have to understand the material & figure out what's really being asked. Exam 2 had lots of typos, but don't be afraid to demand points back.

I took his class in a 5 week summer semester and loved it. Professor Hatfield moves pretty quickly but will stop to answer any questions. He posts his slides on Ecampus, but I recommend printing them out because he draws a lot of examples on the board. There is homework for each topic. Do it! He also provides 2 old exams for each upcoming exam.

Very straightforward, and he gives you everything you need to do well. R is super annoying but he provides the code so homework isn't too hard. Take the previous exams as practice for the real exams, do the homework, and pay attention in class. Should be very easy to get an A

Pretty solid prof, but teaches everything with integration when there are calculator functions for literally everything. Funny guy, which helps because statistics is pretty boring. If you can figure out how to use all of the calculator functions on your own, you don't really have to go to class. Test questions can be somewhat tricky sometimes.

Try your best to stay awake, it will save your grade (it would've saved my letter grade). Enthusiastic and loud, he tries his best to make his class interesting. He wants you to understand the material conceptually, not just equations. His office hours make him accessible and he will try his best to help you. Lastly, he is blunt and to the point.

The grade is made up of webassign hws and the tests. You have to use R, but only on the hw and he gives you the code. You get to use any calculator on the test (so if you have stat functions they can you save a lot of time) and a cheat sheet. The tests are all multiple choice. He keeps his lectures engaging by being funny and loud.

HW was easy but he doesn't write the HW problems (this threw me off on exams). His exams are difficultly worded, do his practice exams and beware of attendance questions on exams. He really does try to help you understand the material in different and entertaining ways. He expects feedback when he asks questions in class, even at 8am

Very energetic, funny dude. Had to take this class, even though I'm not an engineer, so it was more difficult for me. Every time I went in for help, he wouldn't explain the concepts that well, which made me even more confused. Studied a LOT, even went to tutoring, and I still had to drop. Cool as a person, but not the best prof, in my opinion.

Tricky summer class. Tests are 18 Q's so little wiggle room for error, miss 4 Q's and you already get a C on a test. Love his teaching but his tests are difficult, for a summer class. Never Skipped, took good notes, studied constantly, he asks "what was on my desk for the past week" as a Question. Idk sir I was too busy listening to notice :/ ugh

Hatfield was probably my favorite professor I have had here at Texas A&M. He's lectures are anything but boring, and he is helpful in office hours and through email. He is the prof you will either like or hate him, but it is mostly because people do not take his jokes well. His tests are tricky with the wording but study and you can do well.

He's an okay professor, the tests were worth alot. He was very rude when I approached him about being absent on exam day and would refuse to reschedule. I had to get him department head involved who excused it. When I went up to him with a question he laughed in my face. I dislike him but if you study for the test you'll be fine just.

Prof Hatfield is a good choice for Stat 211. He is very funny and makes stats somewhat interesting. He does rant sometimes but for the most part does a good job explaining concepts. If you took stats in highschool this class should be an easy A. Just focus on studying for the tests and familiarize yourself with the stat functions on a TI 84.

When you asked question he did not make you feel smart. He was funny and had energy in the 8:00am class MWF. It is very important that you go to class. His tests are hard and tricky because two answers based on definition are very close to each other. You do get one full sheet of paper front and back to use on the test.

I didn't need to go to office hours, but in class and through his electronic correspondance with the class, you can tell that he genuinely cares about his students and their success. He's a bit fast-paced, so make sure you can keep up. His homework is easy if you pay attention. Hatfield is hilarious, and I found his class to be somewhat enjoyable.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I came into this class with statistics knowledge from high school and I left with a part of my soul gone. Attendance is required bc he asks random questions on exams that aren't even related to the topic of statistics and rather related to random things he says in class. His lectures are garbage; just teach yourself stat

Pros: kinda funny, provide solid examples you prob won't need, clear, not a lot of hw. Cons: talk really fast, lectures didn't necessarily help exams eventho they were pretty much mandatory, grading system is terrible, the final is 35%, not the most caring bc he is really straightforward about what he expects from you which is reasonable I guess

Hatfield is certainly not easy, but he is fair. There are no curve ball questions on the test, so if you know how to do the example problems and read the material, you can get a 100. I got a B because I did badly on one test, so there isn't much forgiveness. I wish his annotated power points were online, but he does make the material relatable.

His lectures, homework, and tests don't really correspond with each other, making studying difficult. The old tests that he provides for studying for exams are not like the actual exams. He can be very condescending when you ask questions.

I took this class in 5 weeks during the summer and it was difficult to manage because I was working while taking the class. Id recommend printing the lecture notes prior to every class because its fast paced. Review the sample exams. Use Rstudio. It will help you in the long run. USE R-STUDIO!!!

Good prof, talks really slow had to watch all of the videos on double speed. Tests are easier if you know how to use the calculator functions. He will curve tests if the median is below a 75 but my class didn't go below that.

This prof thinks that the specific details of a random example we went over is more important to test over than THE ACTUAL CONTENT YOU LEARN. One of his previous test questions is literally "What do I say as a greeting to class?". I pay attention, but I've never thought to remember stupid stuff like that. A significant amount of test questions are on the "required readings." Not as in the statistics knowledge you get from them. It's the actual content in them. If he uses an example, you better expect him to ask what that example was on the test. What kind of professor does that? His tests also had typos so there were no correct answers for some.

I love professor hatfield! Previous reviews are true, to be blunt. He doesn't throw any curveball questions on exams. Make sure to actually read the "Required Readings" and take note of examples, as they are freebies on exams. Sample exams help me a lot. Also go to office hours because he is a super funny dude.

Don't listen to people who say required readings are "freebies". The questions asked about both those and lecture are so specific that people who think those questions are "freebies" are either masochists' who like to watch poorly taught lectures religiously or who cheat and print out all of the required readings and notes to use during a test.

I think Professor Hatfield is a really kind person, but not a good STAT professor. A lot of concepts weren't explained very well, and even when I went to office hours, I was still just as confused, if not more confused. The exams are hard and the "freebie" questions aren't that easy because they're so specific. Also his handwriting is hard to read.

Class was definitely more challenging than I thought. He posted his lecture videos and you do have to listen and take notes to understand. He emphasizes office hours and is very patient when explaining. Most of grade comes from 2 exams and a final but practicing with his practice exams helps. Professor Hatfield seems like a nice person, however he tends to ramble on in lectures and focuses on things that don't matter while skimming over important stuff. Dr. Hatfield's class was challenging and most of the grade was based off of 2 exams and the final. That being said, PAY ATTENTION and do everything that asked of you, otherwise you will do poorly in this class. I bombed the first exam but I ended up making an A in the class. Stats classes are never fun in my experience, but Dr. Hatfield is solid. Homework is nothing like the exams, so do the practice exams for sure (they help a LOT) and take good notes. Final is cumulative but mostly (2/3) the newer stuff since the second exam, so don't get tripped up like I did (had an A in the class before the final).

Hatfield is the best stats prof you could ever take. Many of my friends took other professors and have told me they learned nothing. He doesn't give makeup grades so you have to work for the grade you want. The practice exams are your best friends in this class. Allows you to have 1 sheet of notes for each exam and 3 for the final.

This professor is passionate about statistics and that alone makes the class fine. He has a huge personality that can get annoying at times but is better than a lifeless prof. Lots of required readings and test questions on them, he's not amazing at explaining topics either, but it's just stats and can be figured out easily.

Take with a grain of salt because I Q-dropped, but I felt like this class was harder than it could have been. He frequently goes on tangents & sometimes doesn't get through all the material during class so we have required readings. Going to class may seem like a waste of time, but it's not. HW has nothing to do with tests. Not my learning style.

Keith loves to teach. You can see it everyday in class. Although statistics is not fun, he tries his best to make it. You get to have one notes sheet on each exam.

This class isn't difficult (esp if you took AP STAT) but it is extremely test heavy. 85% of your final grade comes from 3 exams. The first two exams only have 16 questions, so if you miss 2, you're already at a B. I didn't attend class much, I just watched his online lecture videos and was fine. He allows notes on exams, no proctoring, at home

Dr.Hatfield is really funny and I promise you will remember him. He seems tough and condescending at first but he cares for his students. When you ask him questions you might feel that he is making you feel stupid but I promise he just wants to help his students. He will be there for you at the end,

Prof is very accessible outside of class, went out of his way to email students personally. But he's just not good at teaching stats. His lectures were very confusing for me and it felt like you had to already have a good knowledge of stats to do well in the class, even though its an intro class. Take someone else if you can.

Take Crawford if you can. Hatfield isn't the worst, but he makes a class that should be easy over complicated. The notes that he posts doesn't have any of what he's written and the exams are nothing like the homework. Additionally, he gives no margin for error and overall just seems kinda like a jerk.

Hatfield is okay not the worst not the best. He sure knows his stuff about stats, he's literally obsessed. Overall though class is confusing and homework doesn't help with tests at all. His lectures are somewhat helpful but he doesn't connect topics very well. This class is the death of engineers that haven't taken a stats class before.

He often goes on unrelated tangents during lecture. His class is structured unlike any of the other professors, making it difficult to find review materials. His class is graded on extremely few things. There is no extra credit and basically no leeway when it comes to late assignments. People with no prior experience with statistics struggling.

Giving this professor a lower rating than I think he deserves because his rating is way too high. He is a very charismatic professor, and his lectures are often entertaining. However, he is not the greatest teacher as he always goes off on unrelated rants. He also makes the tests way more difficult and trickier than they should be. Ruined my 4.0

Do not take him unless you have a background in stats and are good at it. He speaks very fast and goes off on tangents frequently. Going to office hours doesn't help because he makes you feel dumb and doesn't answer your question. Exams were really hard and the entire grade is exams. He has too high of a rating.

Easily my favorite professor at this university. His lectures are very well-paced and easy to follow. He explains every topic in a logically consistent, conceptually intuitive approach with plenty of practical examples that establish not only the intuition and mathematical beauty behind the idea but why it is actually useful. 100% would recommend!

Passionate about stats but doesn't teach actual statistical concepts. Lecture notes don't actually contain what you're supposed to know. Exams are ridiculously difficult. Going to lectures doesn't do a thing because 40 out of the 50 minutes are spent telling fictional stories and not stats. Yells.

Don't take Hatfield unless you are okay with answering an assload of weird, backwards questions on exams. Exams are 50 minutes, 16 questions, most of which require a lot of work. Your grade is composed almost entirely of exams. There is a reason his GPA is so low compared to others. I had a 4.0 coming into this class.

If you have a stats background then you can scrape by. But, tests are ridiculous, and always seem to be written to trip you up. They're heavy questions that require time to understand and work out which doesn't fit within the 45-50 min period. Planning to drop as we speak to save my GPA. Seems like a quarter of my class also did too.

His lecture are not even remotely helpful and I'm not one to care much about a professors personality, but he comes off quite harsh which makes students not wanna ask for help. If you get him, get a tutor cause you won't learn, but if you're already comfortable with stats, then he'll be fine for a good review class. He also curves exams slightly.

You'll notice a trend here really quickly. His lectures are not helpful and often don't have anything to do with the material covered on the exams. Speaking of which, exams are difficult with 16 math-heavy questions that have to be answered in 50 minutes. Spends too much time telling pointless stories that don't relate to the topic whatsoever.

I stopped going to lecture because he goes on weird tangents and you might as well just self-study. You get multiple chances on hws so they're free. The exams are tough because if you get like 2 questions wrong you'll get a B but they are take-home. The material isn't that bad but it's tough to get an A because of the grading.

Hatfield is a pretty interesting professor. His lectures are generally pretty useful and he is clearly passionate about the class and is also super accessible for questions outside of class or right after class. The class isn't easy and so you will need to put in outside of class work to study for exams, but put in the work and you'll be fine.

Do not take if you are an engineering major, his teaching style will be very different than you are used to. He loves practical examples which leaves much of the calculations and problem solving of a question undiscussed. Tests are hard and a challenge to finish on time and they are weighted heavy 25% each for two midterms and 35% for a final.

Hatfield was "ok". Since I had previous stat knowledge, I was able to do pretty well in the class. However, if you have no previous knowledge of stats please avoid. His lectures are painful, he rambles so much that when he actually teaches it's hard to listen. REVIEW HIS PRACTICE EXAMS and make a cheat sheet for every exam. It helped me out a ton

Dr. Hatfield is an amazing professor. He's very engaging, which is difficult to do for a subject like statistics. He truly cares about his students, which is very important. All of his lectures are recorded, and exams are online. Exams are multiple choice though so no partial credit, which can be difficult in a class like this.

Nice professor, but if you miss an assignment or do poor on a good amount it's very hard to bring your average up. The exams are also pretty challenging and there is some more complex questions on them that I hadn't seen.

Not a bad guy, and although he can be interesting/fun to listen to, he is simply not good at lecturing. Each 50 min lecture probably has 5 min of information, he just rambles. His tests are also harder than other profs. HW load isn't bad, but just a horribly run class. Avoid at all costs.

Bad lecturer, frequently gets off topic. His curriculum is not good, he likes teaching a lot of useless stuff that other profs scrapped from their curriculum. Grades are essentially completely reliant on test grades, and the tests are not easy. Take Scott Crawford or Darren Homrighausen instead. Do not let the good reviews fool you, don't take him.

Hatfield is a fine option if you already know/are familiar with statistics. I took AP Stats in high school so this class was easy for me, but I do not credit Hatfield for my success. As others have said, A LOT of the class period is tangents, stories, and over explanations. Only 10 homeworks, 2 online exams, and a final.

Anyone giving this guy a 5 has probably taken AP stats before. If you haven't taken a stats class prior, I would avoid him at all costs. He rambles and never seems to connect any of his thoughts with valuable information. It feels like he goes out of his way to make what should be an easy math class into a confusing mess of random tangents.

If you took AP Stats, you'll get an A. His tests are make up 80% of your grade, but he does offer his previous tests as study/review material, and those are pretty similar to his actual tests (with some questions being verbatim what was on the test). Very little HW compared to other profs, so that's a plus. Lectures were ok, he's pretty funny.

If you have a solid background in statistics, you will be fine. Otherwise, avoid taking it with Hatfield. There were 10 homework assignments that did not match the level of difficulty on the exams. He spent 45 mins of a 50-minute lecture rambling about topics that were irrelevant to the material. Made an easy class difficult. Do not recommend.

If you have previous experience with stats you will be fine, if not I would avoid Hatfield for 211. His lectures were hard to follow and often had nothing to do with the material we were learning. The class is definitely manageable but he makes it way harder than it needs to be.

A typical lecture consists of 15 mins of useful content, and 35 mins of tangents and rambling. He's pretty cool, and the homeworks were pretty easy to figure out with additional content posted on canvas. If you've taken stats previously, then you will be fine. He's accessible outside of class through email and is generally willing to help out.

I don't see the problem with Hatfield. The concepts are simple and don't take long to grasp and the lectures are only 50 minutes long if that. I didn't really go to class like at all and with the practice exams and lecture slides I scraped by with a B. if you want an A just go to class and get a 100 on the HW.

I'm not going to lie, Hatfield is not a great lecturer. He constantly goes on tangents and it's hard to tell when he's saying something important. But 1 on 1, the guy is great at his job. He's great at identifying the problems you are having and sets you up for success. I was late to the final which is why I have the grade I have.

Hilarious professor. Cheat sheets make the exams very easy; I got a 100 on the first exam. Homework is also easy. Once, I asked him a question via email and got a 1 minute response time, so he's quite accessible outside of class. This class is very doable with Hatfield with no prior knowledge of statistics, but a background does help a lot.

Cares about his students and provides support when needed. Not a lot of hw so tests are reasonably difficult, sometimes curves tests depending on class average

Professor Hatfield is a decent person however not a decent professor. Lectures have nothing to do with the homework, and homework has nothing to do with the exams. Exam reviews are not helpful. Basically nothing carries over from different parts of the class and unless you already know statistics he will not teach you anything.

He gives the code needed to do the homework, so homework is never too hard to do. Tests are very similar to the sample tests he provides, and he allows you to bring a note page to every test along with 3 notes pages to the final. He is very accessible outside of class with fast responses on emails. Take detailed notes.

Homeworks and tests do not correlate at all. Tests are similar to previous example tests provided, but have strange wording and can be unclear what is what. If you have previous stat experience, its not bad, but if you are required to take this for a different degree and this is your stat class you have to take, try to avoid.

I did not take AP Stats, but Hatfield made this class easy. Homework is harder than tests, but he gives you the R Studio code needed to complete the homework. Tests are extremely similar to practice tests, and you get to bring notes pages front and back to the exams. As long as you show up to class and do the practice tests you'll be good.

Professor Hatfield is a mess—completely disorganized and constantly rambling about irrelevant personal stories instead of teaching. Practice exams are posted late and full of errors. His emails are spammy, unprofessional, and useless. Homework & exam prep are chaotic & confusing. You'll teach yourself everything. Avoid this professor at all costs.

Can't say I went to many lectures, but stat211 with professor Hatfield is a great experience. Practice tests were identical to the real exam, and homework were all very manageable. Genuinely one of the easiest courses you can take at A&M. Go over the practice exam once, make a cheat sheet, boom you got an A.

Hatfield is a funny guy who makes lectures an experience for sure. He is very responsive to emails and provided practice exams and hw almost identical to the tests which made the class easier. I would recommend learning how to use TI-84 functions rather than code or equations because it can do probably 90% of the problems you'll encounter in 211.

Chill guy. Exams are chill. Cheat sheets and Excel are allowed. If you know the concepts from the class its a breeze. He has a set pattern and doesn't deviate from it. I didn't attend his class after the fall break, his notes and extra readings are more than enough to get through the course.

Course was super easy if you took AP Stats in High School. I only went to class a few times after the first exam and still got a high A. Exams were pretty much the exact same thing as the practice exams and he was a pretty funny guy. Would reccomend.

Professor Hatfield is a hilarious lecturer, though his teaching style can be hit-or-miss. The coursework is doable with practice, and he's very accessible outside of class. I found unstuck ai helpful for exam prep alongside the provided practice materials.

Professor Hatfield brought life to the classroom and statistics. He sometimes can be hard to follow but helps prepare you for tests. The practice tests are just like the real tests so study those. He is hilarious and brings a humorous mood to the class. :) Definitely would take again.

Professor Hatfield is hilarious, and his lectures are just fun to sit in. The department attempted to standardize the curriculum and exams, so his class is significantly easier now than it has been in the past. He was awesome, and I wish him a great retirement :)

I took this class online in the summer. It was an easy "A." Prof Hatfield is a colorful character whose lectures were interesting and although he often went off topic and rambled about random things, his content was good. He is quick to respond to any communication, genuinely wants his students to be successful and loves Stats. Take him!
